Dato’ Ruby Khong Lives and Inspires
On Wednesday, Dato’ Ruby Khong, the President of Kechara Soup Kitchen, was invited to speak at an open talk hosted by “Live and Inspire”. This was held at Starbucks, in Bangsar Village 2.
The “Live and Inspire” series has run for 45 episodes, and they have won two awards since they started: ‘Global Entrepreneurship Week Awards 2010’ (for Most Engaging Activity for Youths) and ‘The Friends To Mankind Young Leadership Award 2010’.
They hold talks every Thursday where guest speakers and local musicians are invited to speak in hopes of inspiring the audience.
According to the ‘Live and Inspire’ profile, they state that their interactive session focuses on, “the examples of ordinary people who have lived the extraordinary. It will highlight their work and accomplishments, personal struggles, and strategies they used in striving to be more. These are people who live with a sense of being that inspires change, and directly influencing the evolution of the human spirit. It is about celebrating human potential.”
What Dato’ Ruby does with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) definitely fits that profile. I have seen her grow so much, especially since she started heading KSK.
The talk was a fun and loud event… and it’s no surprise that 20-25 Kecharians went to show their support! According to Melor Mokhtar (the host) – the crowd rocked. It was a full-house for the evening and Dato’ Ruby spoke for about 20 minutes. She took some questions from the audience and her two daughters were also called on stage to express why they decided to join Kechara.
This is what “Live and Inspire” wrote about Dato’ Ruby Khong on their website:
“Dato’ Ruby Khong is the President of Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK), socialite, mother of three beautiful grown up children, and the director of an international petroleum company. Despite the many hats she wears, she remains committed to the plight of the less fortunate.
With her hands-on approach, this passionate, upbeat, very bubbly lady is a true leader in her own right. Under her guidance, KSK has expanded its services from a distribution of 20 food packets per week back in 2006, to more than 1,300 packets per week. In September 2010, Ruby’s accomplishments reached another milestone with the opening of KSK’s permanent soup kitchen off Jalan Imbi, allowing this non-profit organisation to offer services such as regular medical aid, counselling and job placement.
Ruby is often seen on the streets and backlanes of Kuala Lumpur with her team serving the homeless and less fortunate. A loving mother who believes in leading by example, her work has resulted in (two of) her (three) children joining her full-time in her community work upon their graduation from leading British universities.”
What a fun and supportive group of Kecharians we have. After the talk, they all went over to Delicious to have a nice vegetarian meal too…hehe
Here’s a video of Dato’s Ruby speech, please watch… I have added some photos below as well. Be warned… some of the Kecharians have not seen daylight for a long while…..
