Dinner with Lorraine Hahn
My student Paris, aka Jamie Khoo sent me these pictures and a short message of a recent dinner party with her parents and family friends, where guests included Lorraine Hahn, the well-respected talk show host, journalist and presenter of CNBC / CNN.
Tsem Rinpoche
Dear Rinpoche,
Below are some photos of this evening’s dinner with my dad, his friends, Lorraine Hahn and her husband Michael Wang. The dinner was hosted by my father’s friend, Mohan Cheong who so far has been very supportive in buying and sharing KMP books with his friends and family. Guests include Lorraine Hahn and her husband Michael, who are visiting from KL, and leaving on Monday; a couple called Dato Steve and Datin Jennifer who was very, very happy to receive our books (Snakes, Roosters and pigs, and Paris book). She was extremely happy to have met LiKim and me, and listen to some Dharma. She was very appreciative of our sharing and we will be keeping in touch and hoping to meet her again soon. There were some other mutual friends of my father and Mohan.
We have casually asked Lorraine what she thinks of doing an interview with me & her next trip and she seemed quite agreeable to it.
Thank you Rinpoche,
Love, Paris
I am extremely happy to see Jamie developing into a mature young lady with integrity, honour, and an excellent head on her shoulders. I am sure her parents are extremely proud of her, and what she has achieved so far. Being the author of the best-selling ‘Call Me Paris’ book is no mean feat for a young lady of 29.
Li Kim is an excellent CEO and inspirational leader and for the young writers at KMP. She is a big sister, mother, teacher and mentor to them, and under her guidance, the young people at KMP can only blossom and go on to do bigger things.
How lovely of Datuk Khoo to support his daughter in her writing career and her dharma work. What a loving and supportive father he must be. Thank you Datuk!!
Lorraine Hahn’s interest in our books shows she is a very intelligent person and is stimulated by knowledge. That must be why she is such a successful anchor person. We wish her well and happiness!

I hope Jamie will be interviewed by Lorraine Hahn because she is very good at promoting Rinpoche and Kechara House. She speaks well and has a lot of confidence. I’ve known Jamie only about three years, since I joined KH and she has always impressed me as a sincere practitioner in spite of her reputation as “Paris”. That’s why I never call her “Paris”. She is very devoted to Rinpoche and serves Rinpoche well. When it comes to pujas she is very helpful and teaches us well. She is a good umze, one of the best. I think this talent of hers should be encouraged.
Jamie’s parents should be very proud of their only daugther is doing the dharma fulltime. Jamie is now getting very well known in Malaysia and she can only get better and come out with more and more books that will change an inspire people to do the dharma. It is said that if the child in the family does harma work, actions and activities the merit from them doing dharma, will benefit their family and loved ones.
Just a side note what a handsome couple Lorraine Hahn and Michael Wang are and they seem absolutely happy being who they are!
When Jamie and Li Kim meet with VIP’s and share Dharma with them, the books give them credit for their words. Because the published books prove that they are serious, that they work hard, that they are realistic, that they are result driven, that they are not dreamers somehow out of this world but reasoned people grounded in reality.
For established people that have achieved a career, the above counts, and when they respect what one has done, they would listen to one has to say, their mind is open.
I am very happy that prominent kecharians are getting the ears of famous respectable people, this can bring about very good things in the future.
Our own Paris the star meets with another star Lorraine Hahn over dinner. Call Me Paris, how apt. I remember Jamie aka Paris when i just met her years ago when she was brought to Kechara House by a friend. She wore dangling earrings only on one side. And her outfit made another statement by itself! I thought “this kid sure has alot of confidence!” I mean, look at her dressing, she really couldn’t care less of what others think or say! She was also a spoilt daddy’s girl whose motto in life was “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. Through the years, Paris has matured to into a young and responsible Jamie Khoo who churns out the best article and book within the dateline assigned. No ands, ifs and buts from this young lady who is constantly pushing herself daily to her fullest potential. What an inspiring personality. I know one day Jamie will be a well known author as predicted by Rinpoche when he first saw her. I am waiting anxiously for that day to come. Well done Jamie dear!
I am very proud of Jamie and of course able to write such a wonderful book by the 29 lass is of no easy feat. This is also a hot selling book for many and one could imagine the amount of people who will be inspired by the content of this book.
Jamie is such a lovely person to work with and i have the fortunate to be her housemate. I a housemate who is The STAR! And i am very happy that Jamie is meeting great people such as LorraineHahn. I am sure Datuk and Datin (who are equally very nice people) would be very proud of Paris’ achivement so far and i rejoice for her to have such a supportive parents!
It gives me one thought, Jamie has been practising Dharma all the time to have her parents and loved ones supporting her Dharma work now.
M Proud of you Jamie! Xxx!
I’ve just finished reading ” Call Me Paris”. I love it. It’s honest and funny. Jamie aka Paris relates her spiritual joiurney through laughters and tears to her readers. (http://www.kechara.com/publications/)
Paris has matured steadily over the last few years. She has learnt to be more caring and more responsible. She has phtographic memories , types super fast and very internet friendly. When the monks from Gaden Monastery came to teach KH members how to do pujas following the monastery tradition, she learned all the pujas in Tibetan and documented every puja with pictures and clear instructions. She will be one of the pioneers in carrying on the lineage of Gadenpa at KWPC.
Well done Paris, my best wishes to you !
This dinner was interesting. There was meat and alcohol – very samsaric. Lots of jokes, some quite profane, and a lot of bantering which proves what a close group of friends they are. We laughed a lot.
Throughout dinner, Jamie and I were thinking, “How do we start talking Dharma????”
Here’s the ironical part… Dharma “talk” started just when I did not expect it. It started with the books then a full blown conversation on Karma! Come on Karma talk, a bit heavy for dinner conversation, don’t you think? It ACTUALLY turned out really well. Jamie and I kept it light and related it to their daily lives. I guess we had a conversation and exchange of views, Jamie and I did not preach! Because we did not preach, it did not get heavy but instead stimulating. In fact, they thanked us for sharing our views.
As they were all Datuk Khoo’e friends, I could see how proud they were of Jamie and her book. Jamie is indeed a unique and quirky person. I have been working with her a year now, and there have been great laughs and also challenging times as we both grew to know each other. Today, I am very proud to work with Jamie. She has been very supportive, and I find myself turning to her when I am “stuck”. And, her quirkiness is contagious…
I known Paris since the days that Margaret knew her – that fateful trip to Nepal. I found her quirky, strange and thought her just another those wannabe girls who wanted white skin with their accent. However, as i got to know her over the years, I found her to be completely different. Although, she was initially unsure about us, but she stuck with us through thick and thin.
Paris is funny, generous and always a fun person to hang out with. She is also very hardworking and tremendously fantastically a great writer. I would look to her writing as a standard that I would aspire and she rightfully gave my writing the initial thumbs down but was very helpful to point out what was not working.
Also, knowing her background, I am amazed at her fortitude and her determination to get things done. That is something I have a lot to learn from her. She is also has an exceptional memory for all things Dharma and has no qualms about expressing herself. She makes a fantastic young liaison. Kudos to you, Dharma Princess Sister. You have come a long way since Nepal and you make Kechara and your parents proud!
The first time I met jamie was during our first Pilgrimage tour to Nepal back in 2004.She told me it was a last minute decision that she decided to join our pilgrimage through a friend of hers who knew Kechara. She was young and restless then and didn’t know anything about Dharma. What I see now, after a few years of intensive nuturing from Rinpoche, Jamie has turned into a mature, sensible, well mannered and caring lady, and is still yet to blossom more in the years to come.
Not only does Jamie write well and working fulltime in Kechara Media Publication (KMP), She is also a liaison to KMP. She is avtively involved in the education committee, sharing her knowledge with many newbies in Manjushri class. She could impart a lot of Dharma knowledge to the newbies, and she is always being looked up to as someone with “an ocean of knowledge”. She moderates well in class and now she is constantly netwroking to promote kechara and Rinpoche. What an inspiring young lady. Jamie, you sure make your mom and dad proud of you. As your Dharma sister, I am too!!!
Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
Dharma affinities are hard to come by and each one should be treasured! Sadhu! to all who made this possible and may all benefit from this great meeting and friendship.
I recall Lorraine Hahn who many years ago stayed at the hotel where I worked at in KL back then and although I had only met her once, she was such a hospitable person to behold. May she and her husband be well and happy!
hehe I didn’t expect that this “story” would make it to Rinpoche’s blog. Lorraine Hahn is such an amazing person – so successful in her field as a broadcast journalist and presenter, and has met so many prominent world leaders in the world such as Mahathir, Lee Kuan Yew, Vladimir Putin, Thaksin and top CEOs. And yet, when you meet her, she is so humble, down-to-earth, friendly, kind and just a lot of fun. As an aspiring journalist (well, before) I used to be all “oh when I grow up I want to be like Lorraine Hahn” and here I was having dinner with her now.
She was so super kind – even gave an endorsement to our KMP book, “Call me Paris” upon meeting me only once at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Read it here (among other cool creds we got!): http://www.kechara.com/publications/reviews/10-reasons-why/
Thanks for sharing this special article with us, Rinpoche! We are very happy for Jamie’s success. Li Kim and Jamie are the darlings in Kechara! We love them!
