Question asked by ChenZin Lau
Good Afternoon,
i have a question on faith and practise.I was born and raise in a Buddist/Taoist family and my mother who is pratising catholic faith(not baptise)where she brought me up to sunday school and attend masses either sunday or any feast day. Before i went to university, I was baptised in catholic faith. So during uni life, i was active in church and participating church events. Once i graduated and work, Im getting lesser and lesser time for church and masses and suddenly I bump up with Kenchara shop at SS2. Once i enter into the shop, I was feel unique and have the scent of home. Maybe becuase last time when I was small, I do expose with those mantra song and the statue. But that time , I was not interest into it. But what attracts me was the arts and the statue where i like to see them. Often now, I do visit to Kenchara shop either in SS2, Viva home or 1U to just see the statue and the khanta. The problem is that my mother do ask me to go back to my original faith (catholic) where I myself feel attracted especially to Tibetan buddhism. Can I embrace both religion at the same time? Is there any comflict or negative karma if i do that? please need your advise on this. Thanks.
Since you are familiar with our stores, I am assuming that you are not far from Kechara House where we conduct classes and you are welcomed to consult with the senior students or pastors further if need be.
I would suggest you learn up more on karma by studying the lamrim so you can clear your fears.
We are in no position to tell you to give up your christian faith as Buddhism is about teaching you to be a good person irregardless of religion. Until you are ready to fully embrace Buddhism and take refuge, there are no conflict at all. Once we have decided on our spiritual path, we only have one faith as time is not in our hands and to study and practice in order to gain some result requires devotion… be it whatever faith you choose.
