Question asked by Don
Hello, Pastors!
I have a friend that drives a truck for a living, and he is often not home for 3 or four days out of the week. He is concerned about maintaining an altar and a practice.
I told him that an altar is good to have but not absolutely necessary, that Tibetans imprisoned by the communists had no altars and still maintained a practice, and that you can visualise making offerings and do a sadhana at any time when you have some free time.
Was this the correct advice to give him?
Thank you!
Dear Don
Your friend is very fortunate to have you as a dharma friend.
An altar is good to have and it shouldn’t become an object of worry. With an altar, your friend can do his practices when he is home. When he is away on the road, keeping a picture of his meditational deity and bringing his sadhana along is good.
Since he drives so much I’d highly encourage for him to get a tsa tsa to put in his truck for blessing. http://vajrasecrets.com/tsa-tsas/classic-collection.html
