This is a little something for those closer to home…
Remember the Bukit Antarabangsa Landslide in 2008? What about the Highland Towers apartment building which collapsed in 1993? I am sure that you know many died during those two incidences.
Such sudden catastrophes have claimed the lives of many people. Many spirits will appear in the area especially so if at the point of death, one is still extremely attached, bitter or angry. So when something happens and claims the lives of many unexpectedly, there is no surprise that those who are still alive may have paranormal sightings and experiences around the area…
I thank Krishna Rajagopal for sending in his story; he is one of many who have had an encounter with the unseen. Do read his very interesting story.

I’d like to share the various stories of various sightings here in Bukit Antarabangsa, Hulu Kelang.
This area is just beside the hillside, Highland Towers which collapsed many years ago, killing many people…
Well, first there is a row of abandoned houses on Jalan Wangsa which is supposed to be haunted… and there is a semi deserted bungalow just across the road which is also purportedly haunted.
Second, the winding road up the hill has had many incidents, once even involving myself. As I drove down the hill in Bukit Antarabangsa one day, all of a sudden I felt I just knocked someone down! There was a white image of someone running across the road, and I panicked, got down, looked around, and there was nothing.
Later, I found out that this is a common experience for most Bukit Antarabangsa residents, especially if they are driving down at wee hours of the night… as there is a cemetery on one side of the road and a virgin jungle on the other…
There are also stories of people spotting tiger-like images by the bushes.. and lots more!

11 December 1993 marked the date where a heart breaking tragedy strike at Highland Tower , located at Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang Selangor. It’s the very day when of the three blocks collapsed completely killing 50 residents. Bukit Antarabangsa area soon come to an almost complete halt as this area to be a high risk zone. The Highland Towers tragedy that happened is the worst high-rise building collapse in the nation’s history. The remaining residents shifted else way as the area considered not safe over the stability of the two other towers. Due to the number in deaths there it became haunted as many people have claimed and many creepy incident has happened. It is regarded to be the creepiest, most haunted places in Malaysia due to the Highland Tower incident. Its not surprising that one might have experiences or have seen weird things around the area. The Highland Tower collapse really shocked the whole nation as it brought to us the reality of poor technical advises of building on top of an underground water fault. Due to the heavy rains that Malaysia receive, over time the structure just gave way. So many died in that single moment. It is no wonder that the place is haunted as the poor souls never did get any preparation to die. But then again who is really prepared to die. I read that they finally gave up searching for the bodies and just left them buried on the spot. At times like this, nothing matters anymore, not the wealth, people or the materials. It would be so much better to practice and be prepared to leave at any moment without regrets or attachments.

Dear Rinpoche, that place must be seriously haunted. Because normally when some place gets haunted, they will still have people living near it but in this case no one live near it. And it’s throughout the whole street, there is also a haunted bungalow just across the street, a cemetery and a virgin jungle. Man, I couldn’t think of anything more.
Yes, this is indeed one of the very haunted places in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Although this incident happened almost 20 years ago, it is still much talked about by those who were old enough to know about this landslide.
Whenever I drove pass the area, I still think about this landslide incident. I’m not sure about those who lived in the area, but I just can’t “delete” the memory of the incident and I feel not comfortable because of the incident.
I pray that the people who passed away during the incident can let go and move on and have a good rebirth…
This was a real embarrassment for the country and the people in the the industry that lives are lost due to greed, mismanagement and the lack of care. Many people lost their lives due to unscrupulous acts by a few. Yes as how Rinpoche advised please say a prayer or two for those beings who are still wandering in this tragedy area. OM MANI PADME HUM.
The tiger like beings are quite interesting I wonder what they are? What are tiger spirit creatures if someone can share that would be awesome!
I remember this tragedy as I was in High school. And I remember also that one of person who perished is the son of former deputy prime minister, Tun Musa Hitam.
The whole place is so eerie till now.
I have family friends who lived down the road from the collapsed apartments. Almost daily they can hear voices wailing as though calling for help. So terrifyiing. They have since moved. I also went with my mom to the funeral of a couple who was killed in the tragic incident. Their bodies could not be identified, so the ritual was carried out without their bodies. Their old mother was too distraught to go through the whole process of waiting and identifying.
I remember the collapse of the Highland Towers’ block of apartments from those long years ago. Most of us in KL and in Malaysia still remember the heart-wrenching tragedy and disaster including the agonizing days that folowed , where hope was held up for survivors and then hopes dimmed. As a wife, mother and daughter, I felt the pain of those who lost dear ones , young and old.
Yes,all those souls that perished so suddenly, must still be lost and wandering. Yes, those who happen to go by that area or be near there should remember these lost souls and , with compassion, recite mantras and blow in the air to them.
I knew this news when I still as a journalist, it really a huge tragedy. Many people dead in sudden, I still remember at that time everything is seem like going very wrong. The sadness surrounded whole Bukit Antarabangsa, Hulu Kelang.
Every day, in newspapers we can see so many sadness faces in front of the cover. It is really bad and bad and bad feeling every times I read those news. So, not surprise that have haunting stories.

It was really heartbreaking for me then as my best friend’s 3 brothers passed away during the collapse. Had to go to the morgue and funeral. I dare not look into the casket as I wanted to remember them as they were. I pray that those who were involved rest in peace and have a good rebirth including my ‘brothers’.
According to records, the tragedy of the Highlands Towers collapsed occurred actually on 11 Dec.,1993, in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang. Official death toll releases by the authorities was 48, thogh other unwarranted sources gave the number as greater than 55. After the tragedy, the Highlands Towers memorial Stone was placed at the site of Block 1, but sadly it was a victim of much vandalism. Block 2 and 3 of the Highlands Towers thogh still stand today, they are now almost completely overgrown by the deep densed wild jungle. In recent years, they have been the site of much vandalism and the buildings are now in almost complete disarrayed and ruins. Rather eerie, the abandoned Towers continue to loom out over the Taman Hillview area. The Highland Towers had been a popular source of huanted stories in the years thereafter, a result of the tragedy that took forty-eight lives, which included that of my former working colleaque and friend, a Nik Mohamed Baharuddin, who perished in that illed-fated tragedy of December11, 1993!
I did some research on the Highland Towers Apartment case for a script writing of a Chinese TV program on Astro. I accessed the library of a Chinese press which they have comprehensive collections of all the relevant news since 1993 till now.
For me, it was heart wrenching to read the news reporting the result of the rescue. They found a lot of bodies at the staircase area. All the bodies been heavily squeezed, most of the bones and skulls were squeezed to flat especially for the kids bodies. It’s believed that during the apartment collapsed, lots of the residents using the staircase to go out from the building, but unfortunately the building collapsed before they could run out.
It’s been a shocking news until now. The news collections also mentioned there are people grouping together to have “haunting adventure” at the place in recent years. Several paranormal cases found, some of them heard the crying of the babies, and dog barking, but later they found out it’s sound from the nearby residence area.
It was also reported in news that, the place has become the “paradise” for drug addict as no one dare to go neat the haunted place after so many years. Some mattresses, and syringes were found during the reporter visit.
Like what Tsem Rinpoche said, I believe there are a lot of beings there which they couldn’t accept the truth that they have died this way, what a sudden for them.
May the beings there rest in peace, let go of attachment and anger. May Krishna and people who visit there be careful, have a virtuous mind for them, as they are just like our friends and family who had an unfortunate accidents. Om Mani Padme Hum!
