I requested KECHARA CARE dept headed under Liaison Su Ming to arrange a dinner for our volunteers, staff, liaisons and friends who worked so hard to make Wesak Day such a successful day. I was just amazed how beautifully everything was done. So I asked Su Ming to offer everyone a wonderful THANK YOU...

(By Tsem Rinpoche) Few aspects of Man’s nature showcase his ingenuity more clearly than his talent for cruelty and conflict. Fortunately, another of those aspects is his capacity for compassion and forgiveness. It is from roots borne of these two diametrically opposite traits that the Pokhara Shanti Stupa – and 79 other Peace Pagodas...

Wesak 2011 (By Tsem Rinpoche) Yesterday was Wesak Day, a national holiday in Malaysia. Malaysian Govt recognizes the important spiritual holidays of all religions…it’s beautiful. Wesak Day was the date Lord Buddha chose to take rebirth, enact enlightenment and also enter Paranirvana. It is the holiest day in the Buddhist calendar. I had the...

Yesterday, we had our annual Wesak Fair! It was held at a park within the same community as our Kechara departments and gompa. I have asked one of my students to do a little write-up for the blog… and have added some pictures below the article. Do take a look at another one of...

They have been looking for many many months since 2010 for the right location to open another KP outlet since 2010. (By Tsem Rinpoche) Machig Labdrön (ma gcig labs sgron, 1055-1153) was an inspiring 11th century Tibetan yogini whose practice of Chöd profoundly influenced Tibetan Buddhism. Chöd is literally the “severance” or “cutting through” of the existence of ego. Being a Tibetan woman during the time when Buddhist masters were normally Indian and male, her...

Below is the same video but with Chinese subtitle My Dearest and Holiest Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, I have heard you have decided to manifest a stroke. I was very shocked, concerned and scared all at once. Such a great teacher like you takes many years to manifest and you should not think...

I’ve always admired Master Cheng Yen for her true Buddhist spirit that translates into action. She is like the “Mother Teresa of the East” and her work has always inspired me… especially her work that shows Dharma in action. Masters like her do not only teach Buddhism but they also put it into practice...

(By Tsem Rinpoche) A question from my blog: Rinpoche, why did you choose Setrap for kechara House to practice? I heard that when you were young, you really like Pelden Hlamo. So why do you give Setrap to all of your students? From Losang B Dear Losang, This is a really good...

(By Tsem Rinpoche) Tonight, in part of my talk at Kechara House’s Setrap Retreat, I explained about Setrap and why we make wrathful offerings to Dharma Protectors. Setrap is the Dharma Protector of Gaden Shartse, and also Kechara House. He is the wrathful emanation of Buddha Amitabha so as an enlightened Being, all of...

Dear friends, When you practice generosity at first, it is about you and the recipient. How the recipient responds greatly affect your motivation to do more or less…in the beginning I stress. Everyone likes to be appreciated of course. But as you progress, it is not so much about the recipient. It is about...

(By Tsem Rinpoche) A few years back I approached one student to open a restaurant for KECHARA. But the student declined citing various reasons. There are people who find reasons to win and some do not. So I approached Irene and asked her to open and without hesitation she said yes. Irene has never...

His Eminence Kyabje Lati Rinpoche was a real living Buddha in so many ways. His death was a great loss to Gaden Shartse Monastery, Gaden, Sera Drepung, Gelug Lineage, Buddha dharma of Tibet and for Tibet on the whole. I have written more extensively on Rinpoche on another post. Kyabje Lati Rinpoche passed away...

One of my heroes since the 80’s from when I was in Los Angeles is Mother Teresa. I saw a documentary film in LA on her in the cinema and cried throughout most of the film. She still is one of my heroes…I went again and again and took friends to see the documentary...

If your angersome, it means you are spoiled. If you want things to be given to you, then you want others to do your work. If you complain without doing, it means you want an easy way out. If you have no integrity, it means you have never earned respect. If you are always...

It is heartbreaking to see this video. This dog is sad, lost and disorientated. His owner died. Yet he stays nearby laying next to his beloved owner. I sincerely hope someone will take this dog in and give him the love he deserves. I hope he will not be alone. This dog obviously has...

While spring cleaning through my personal items, the Ladrang staff and I sorted through several cards (greeting cards, birthday cards etc). One of them had a beautiful photo of Samantabhadra with his white consort that a student of mine gave to me a while ago. The style was very simple and earthy…very very beautiful....
