Black Eyed Child

BEK01

Dear friends,

Black Eyed Children or Black Eyed Kids (BEKs) is another group of paranormal entities triggered my interest and prompted me to find out more since I learned about them a few months ago.

The BEKs are something that is interesting and frightening at the same time. Haunting accounts of BEKs tell of what happens when those who come into contact with them do not comply with what these children have requested. This is what makes them so interesting apart from their appearance.

I would like to thank Martin, Beatrix and Pastor Jean Ai for their invaluable help with this article and making it available for all to read.

Vinnie

What Are Black Eyed Children?

BEK02

Sightings of the Black Eyed Children or BEKs for short, place them to be around the ages of six to 16. These children have been described as wearing white bedclothes, normal attire or even hoodies. They are pale-skinned with the pallour of death upon them. The distinguishing feature is their haunting eyes, which are jet-black with no discernable sclerae (whites), irises or pupils.

These beings are often said to knock on doors or windows, or can be found out in open abandoned fields playing in groups at night. They speak confidently, asking to be let into the homes or cars of others, in a manner that has surpassed the intellect of children their same age. Those who invite them into their homes are not heard of again.

There is no exact point in time when these beings started to appear. However, stories about them began to surface on the Internet in the mid-1990s. One blogger/ journalist, Brian Bethel, claims to be the first person to have encountered the BEKs. It happened in 1996 in Abilene, Texas. The encounter took place in the spring or summer of that year. He reports:

I had gone down to the former site of Camalott Communications, one of the area’s original Internet providers, to pay my bill. At the time, Camalott was near the movie theater. I was using the light of the theater’s marquee to write out my check, which I planned to put in Camalott’s night drop-slot. Involved in my work, I never heard them approach.

There was a knock on my driver’s side window. Two young boys, somewhere between nine to 12 years old and dressed in hooded pullovers, stood outside. I cracked the window a bit, anticipating a spiel for money, but I was immediately gripped by an incomprehensible, soul-wracking fear. I had no idea why.

BEK11

A conversation ensued between one boy, a somewhat suave, olive-skinned, curly-headed young man, and myself. The other, a red-headed, pale-skinned, freckled young man, stayed in the background. The “spokesman”, as I’ve come to think of him, told me that he and his companion needed a ride. They wanted to see a movie, Mortal Kombat, but they left their money at their mother’s house. Could I give them a ride? Plausible enough. But all throughout this exchange, the irrational fear continued and grew. I had no reason to be frightened of these two boys, but I was. Terribly. After a bit more conversation, I looked up at the theater marquee and down at the digital clock display in my car. Mortal Kombat’s last show of the night had already started. By the time I could have driven the boys anywhere and back, it would practically have been over.

All the while, the spokesman uttered assurances: It wouldn’t take long… They were just two little kids… They didn’t have a gun or anything. The last part was a bit unnerving. In the short time I had broken the gaze of the spokesman, something had changed, and my mind exploded in a vortex of all-consuming terror. Both boys stared at me with coal-black eyes. Soulless orbs like two great swathes of starless night.

I full-on freaked out inside while trying to appear completely sane and calm. I made whatever excuses came to mind, all of them designed to get me the hell out of there. I wrapped my hand around the gearshift, threw the car into reverse, and began to roll up the window, apologizing all the while. My fear must have been evident. The boy in the back wore a look of confusion. The spokesman banged sharply on the window as I rolled it up. His words, full of anger, echo in my mind even today: “We can’t come in unless you tell us it’s okay. Let us in!”

I drove out of the parking lot in blind fear, and I’m surprised I didn’t sideswipe a car or two along the way. I stole a quick look in my rear-view mirror before peeling out into the night. The boys were gone. Even if they had run, I don’t believe there was any place they could have hidden from view that quickly. (Bethel, 2013).

Who Are They?

BEK03

People have said that these beings might be either spirits, extraterrestrials, demonic entities, vampires, inter-dimensional beings or perhaps just children with medical conditions. With the evidence at hand, what I can conclude is that these beings are definitely not ordinary children with medical conditions.

The dilation of the pupils in human eyes is called mydriasis. The term is used when referring to pupil dilation that is NOT the result of a physiological condition or a cause such as drugs, illness or injury. The pupil enlarges or constricts based on the amount of light that enters the eyes at any given point of time. Besides light and light arousal that can cause the pupil to dilate noticeably, there are a few other causes that make the pupil expand in an abnormal way. These are:

  1. Blown Pupils: Pupils dilated beyond the normal limits due to intracranial pressure
  2. Adie’s Tonic Pupil: This is a condition where one pupil is noticeably larger than the other, often a mismatch in size for the two eyes
  3. Drugs
  4. Traumatic iris damage, third cranial nerve palsy, pharmacological dilation (i.e. dilating drops), iris rubeosis

However, with all these above conditions, none of them would cause or can fully explain the Black Eyed Children’s appearance (total black of the eye, no iris, no visible pupil and no sclera). Therefore, it can safely be said that the eyes of BEKs are not the result of an explainable medical condition.

Types of Black Eyed Children

The appearance of BEKs are very similar but there are some differences in the way that they will approach their ‘victims’. Three of the recorded methods are:

1. Knocking on windows of vehicles
In these cases, the BEKs either alone or in a pair will approach vehicles and knock on the windows, asking for the driver or passengers in the vehicle to roll the windows down. When these people have done so, the BEK will ask for a ride home to get something or pretend to have lost their way. They will speak in a monotonous way, and yet the manner in which they carry themselves represent a maturity that surpasses the typical mental development of the children of their age. They appear very confident when they approach. These BEKs will not look at people straight in their eyes.

BEK04

If the BEKs are rejected, they become more demanding and will play on the guilt of their would-be victims. It is said that these BEKs have a very hypnotising voice and tone. Even if their targets have fear or concern in their hearts and are unwilling to comply with the BEKs’ requests, they will often find themselves slowly and hypnotically reaching to unlock their vehicles and letting the BEKs in. If they are fortunate, they will catch themselves just in time.

A woman took her young son, around nine, with her to the neighborhood Mini Mart for milk. Her son was in the back seat and belted in; he told her he’d wait in the car, they often did this together so she ran into the store. She was in there less than five minutes. When she came out, another “kid” was in the backseat with him, sitting right next to him in the middle of the seat.

BEK13

The woman had an instant reaction of terror, dropped the milk, opened the back door and got her son out of the car; that is when she saw the jet black eyes. She described it as a look of pure evil. She ran back into the store and told the clerk to call 911 and she called her husband. When they went back out, the child was gone and nowhere to be found. A police report was made but no child of that description was ever located, or seen by police.

Her husband drove up in the family car and the woman asked her son how the child came to be in the car. He told his Mom that the kid came up to the car window and said, ” I want in.” He said he thought it would be fun to have someone to play with and so let the kid come in the car. The son told his Mom and Dad that the child climbed over him and sat next to him; then his Mom came out.

The mother was still so fearful that she had her husband drive the SUV while she took the family car. On the way home, the husband was in a wreck that totaled the SUV. The next day the son became sick and for the next eight months continued with unexplained illnesses whose symptoms seemed to change every time he went to the doctors. Finally the parents had their local church come and pray for them and their son; they did this for weeks! As a result of continued prayer, the son was healed and the fear of the encounter began to subside for all of the family members.

From the stories we have gathered, it shows that BEKs target anyone without an age specifics. In the above report, we see how these beings targeted an innocent young child to let them in.

2. Appearing on front porches and knocking on doors
Cases like this happen when the ‘victim’ is alone at home and it is late in the wee hours of the night. The victims will hear loud knocking on their door. When they go to the door, they will usually find a pair of children outside. The children are pale in complexion and have their eyes cast down on the floor, instead of looking at the ‘victim’ while speaking to them. They will ask to be let in to the house to wait for their parents, or to make a call home. The leading child of the pair will ask their victims in a monotonous way, speaking in ways that is unlike other children of the same age group.

When the ‘victims’ are faced with these children, they are gripped by a strong sense of fear and yet, they will start finding themselves slowly letting the BEKs into their houses.

BEK05

Many times when these BEKs are rejected, they will say things like, “We are just children, what harm can we do. Please let us in.” Sometimes they will even say something like, “If you do not invite us in, we cannot come in.” It is said that their voices are usually hypnotic in a manner that makes their ‘victims’ do things that they say.

Below is a report of such a experience, with some difference. The twist here is that this couple let the BEKs into their home. This is a unique story and in my research, I have not seen any other case where survivors lived to report what happened after they let these beings in. This account is by the witness herself.

I live just outside of [a rural town in] Vermont. It’s a tight knit community where everyone knows one another and people don’t lock their doors at night. There has never been any need to.

A little over a year ago I woke up because I heard a loud banging on my front door. At the time my husband I lived in a small home on a dirt road just off the rural route into town. It was the middle of a snowstorm and the nearby hills get very slippery in the snow so I thought that someone might have been in an accident and broken down. It’s happened before.

When I looked out the window I could see that out motion spotlight was on. I could see that there were footprints in the snow that had come from our road and into our driveway but there was no car anywhere. The snow was still covering the road and no one had driven on it for at least a couple hours. Our front door was obscured from the window but I could see that someone was standing there. I wasn’t sure what to think so I woke my husband up just to feel safer. While I was telling him what was going on the banging on the door started again and my husband went to answer it while I stood in the hallway.

When he opened the door there were two children standing in the snow looking toward the ground. They were a boy and a girl and could not have been more than eight years old. They were dressed strangely and had odd haircuts. The girl’s hair was very long and straight and the boy had a dated haircut that looked almost like a bowl cut. They weren’t dressed for winter and my first thought was that they must have been Mennonite children but as far as I know there was never a large community of Mennonites near us.

Thinking back on it I know that my normal reaction to seeing children in a snowstorm would have been to rush them inside and bundle them up with some blankets and hot cocoa, but that’s not how this felt. The children were very unnerving. They would not make eye contact and when my husband asked them if everything was ok they asked if they could come in. My husband looked at me like “what do I do?” and I asked the kids where their parents were.

“They’ll be here soon,” is all they said.

It was around 2 o’clock in the morning at this point so the only reasonable thought in my head was that there must have been an accident or these kids got lost. As much as my instincts told me not to bring them inside I did it anyway.

I went into the kitchen to make them some hot cocoa while my husband took them into the living room. While I was fixing the kettle I could hear my husband talking to the kids. He was asking them if they were ok, where they came from, how far they walked, if their parents’ car was broken down, things like that. But they always answered “our parents will be here soon”. They spoke in a sing-songy voice. They weren’t afraid to be in a stranger’s home at all.

I started to notice that our cats (we had four) were all hiding except Pigeon who was in the kitchen with me. Normally our cats are very curious and friendly and we have to be careful that they don’t run out the door when we leave. This time none of them even tried to see who was here which I thought was very strange. All of the hair on Pigeon’s neck was standing up and his tail was puffed up while he looked in the living room. When I bent down to pet him and see what was wrong he hissed and started growling and backed up until he had hid himself under the kitchen island. I have never seen him do that before.

BEK06

When I walked back into the living room the kids were sitting on the couch as still as can be but my husband was holding his head in his hands. I asked him what wrong and he just said that he felt very dizzy all of a sudden but that he was fine. I turned back to the children to give them their cocoa, but when they looked at me I gasped. It took everything inside of me not to drop the mugs and run away. When they looked at me their eyes were completely black. They had no whites just giant black pupils.

When they saw that I was scared they stood up and asked if they could use the bathroom. I tried to be as composed as I could be and showed them down the hall. They went into the bathroom together and I hurried back to my husband to ask him if he had seen their eyes. He had seen them too and said that it looked like his brothers badly bruised eyes after a car accident. We were in the middle of talking about whose children they could be when my husband’s nose started to bleed. He’d never had nosebleeds as long as I had known him. I just knew inside myself that this had something to do with the kids in the bathroom and I started crying while I ran to get [my husband] some tissues.

That’s when the power went out. I heard my husband yell my name from the living room and as I started to walk back through the hallway I stopped dead in my tracks. The two children were standing at the end of the hallway. They weren’t moving and I have never been so scared in my whole life. They just stood there in the dark.

After what felt like forever the boy said “our parents are here” and they walked to the door, opened it, and walked out leaving it wide open. My husband jumped up to go close it and almost fell over. We looked out the window and saw two men standing by a black car idling at the end of our driveway. The men looked like they were wearing black colored suits and were very tall, at least 6 feet. When my husband waved at them they just stared at us, got into the car, and drove off.

Our power came on about half an hour later but nothing was the same after that.

Over the next few months three of our cats went missing. We can only assume that they ran away somewhere and never came back but the worst thing was coming home to find Pigeon in a puddle of blood on the living room floor. He looked like he had been vomiting blood. The vet told us that he had some kind of hemorrhage.

After my husband’s nosebleeds became a regular occurrence we went to see the doctor. He didn’t know what to make of it other than “dry nasal passages” but my husband was diagnosed with an aggressive skin cancer. When the doctor asked us if he used tanning beds we both thought he was joking, but apparently this kind of melanoma is linked to over-use of indoor tanning. The doctors think he will recover but don’t understand how it got so bad so quickly. My husband has never worked an outdoor job and spends relatively little time in the sun.

Since we let the Black Eyed Kids inside our home I’ve also suffered from regular dizzy spells and nosebleeds on a regular basis. I’ve had other issues which I won’t mention here but trust me when I say that I am suddenly in the worst condition of my life and no one can do anything about it. I know that all of this is because I let the Black Eyed Children into my home. We’ve told everyone we could about the strange kids that showed up that night but no one else saw them and some laugh at how scared we were of the “Mennonite kids” but we know what we saw. I wish my husband had never opened the door.

3. Playing on abandoned or deserted open fields
For these cases, groups of BEKs will be playing on an abandoned or open field, dancing and singing nursery rhymes. When the group know that someone has seen them, they will characteristically approach the victim.

BEK07

During this time, if the witness tries to drive away, they will hear a loud piercing sound like a cat snarling across the area.

There are some reports saying that these BEKs will approach and ask to follow their victims home. If rejected, they will appear more aggressive and insist on their demands. However when the witness walks away, they will hear loud piercing snarls that will make them run faster.

Common Places That They Are Sighted

The reports of these BEKs are mainly reported in the US, Europe and Australia. However, it does not mean that BEKs are not present in other countries. If you will recall, reports of these beings only started not too long ago and we may well receive similar reports of BEKs from other countries in the years to come. For now, sightings of BEKs come mainly from:

  1. Cannok Chase Staffordshire, England
  2. Aisne, France
  3. North Carolina, USA
  4. London, England
  5. Vermont, USA
  6. Virginia, USA
  7. Louisiana, USA
  8. Ohio, USA
  9. Massachusetts

Colour of Black… The Meaning

BEK08

The BEKs’ eyes indicate their malevolent intent. Usually the colour of black is associated with power, fear, mystery, strength, authority, elegance, formality, death, evil, aggression, authority, rebellion, and sophistication. It is typically seen as something that can evoke strong emotions. In psychology, black means power and control.

When we see the black eyes of BEKs, we may begin to realise that these beings are not something that we should take lightly. Eyes are considered by many cultures to be the windows to the soul. With that in mind, it would mean that these BEKs are more than just innocent-looking children with black eyes. They are something that is more sinister.

BEK09

What to Do When Facing Them?

The best advice available to those of you who may be faced with these beings is to not engage with them. What should be done is to ignore them and turn around. If possible, chant protective mantras of protecting deities like Dorje Shugden, Dukkar or Sengdongma and ask for help, for example OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA which is the mantra of Dorje Shugden. Mantras are specific sounds or words that help to tap into the powers of the deities, asking them for assistance.

You should not engage BEKs in conversation as that is how they control their victims, especially given regular reports of their hypnotic voices and mind-controlling abilities.

BEK10

Conclusion

I hope the information shared is useful to those who have or may encounter BEKs. The BEKs’ mask of innocence should not be allowed to fool anyone. These beings are far more sinister than they appear.

BEK14

Just think, why are there so little reports about what happened when people let these beings in? It must mean that letting them into your house or vehicle will lead to disastrous consequences. Referring to the reports above, it can be seen that when people allow these beings in, horrible things happen to them, be it a car crash or even some unexplainable medical conditions.

I would conclude that these beings are not fake urban legends and they do exist. If we get in contact with them, we should be very careful when dealing with them. Be vigilant so that their powers of hypnotism do not affect the clarity of our own minds.

    Dear Rinpoche & Vinnie,

I wonder what causes their sufferings by having this type of existence? Lack of love or self-pity? I very much hope they will find happiness in their lives. It seems that they loomed in darkness and full of misery.

Yes, having said so doesn’t negate the fear in me, if I were to see them in person! I hope I can still keep calm and at the same time, to bless them. Also, I hope many people will know how to protect themselves from this paranormal experience by learning Dharma. Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha – chant this when you happen to encounter them.

This is an intriguing article, never thought such beings can exist. From television the most common type of beings with no pupils are the aliens in those alien conspiracy series. And also the series called ‘supernatural’, whereby such beings were demonic in nature.

  3. Edward Ooi on Oct 19, 2016 at 12:36 am

I strongly believe that they do exist. There are so many types of strange beings that we have yet to fully discover either in spirit form or one that has a physical body. For instance, I do believe that beings such as Loch Ness Monster, Fairies, Bigfoot, extraterrestrial beings and of course spirits. Because scientists always find new animals or plants yearly so, proving these beings that they are real is only a matter of time. Therefore, I don’t think there is much reason for me to deny their existence since I see them as just another type of being that falls under the spirit category.

I cannot help to feel a very strong presence of fear from them when I look at their pictures. Especially the emotionless stare of theirs, it makes my heart tremble. I hope these children will be able to take a swift and good rebirth and no one will be harm by them anymore.

I definitely would not like to come in experience with one as I am a chicken which means that I am easily scared and frightened. I will definitely abandon everything behind to just run away from them. I will not even go close to them, I will do my best to just avoid them although I am fully aware that they did not choose to be born in this form but I just can’t help to feel fear from them. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Pastor Patsy on Aug 26, 2016 at 4:06 pm

Interesting! This is the first time I have heard about Black Eyed Kids. The accounts and experiences faced by the victims are scary. Unseen beings are everywhere and it is due to their karma that they took rebirth in this realm of existence.

We are fortunate to be protected by The Three Jewels and when faced with this type of situation, it is best to recite Dorje Shugden’s mantra to seek His protection and blessings.

I agree that this perhaps one of the scariest article I have ever read and I am not one who are easily scared. LOL.

BEKs seems to be localise in Western culture and the common places of sighting tells us that perhaps BEKs like many types of spirits and the paranormals beings arised out of localised conditions, society, culture and practices of these communities; hence in this case we have “Western BEKS”. We have never heard of Eastern BEKS and to illustrate further, western zombies wears western clothes and eastern zombies wear western clothes.

The same applies to the gods!!!!

    Food for thought!

  7. Pastor David Lai on Aug 19, 2016 at 12:39 am

This is perhaps one of the scariest article from our ghost writer, Vinnie Tan. I read that BEKs or Black-eyed child is still considered by many, an urban legend despite some close encounters mentioned here.

I find the stories a little hard to believe because they seemed to be recent phenomenon and the fact that there is little information that explains what are they are and what makes them do the things they do. Paranormal beings that are so dangerous are a little far-fetched but then again I could be wrong. But then again, there are definitely paranormal beings that can be dangerous. Whatever it is, the stories of this one is really scary and entertaining.

  8. Su Ming on Aug 18, 2016 at 10:53 pm

I have not heard BEKs before but it is awfully scary to read this article. It reminds me of some of the description Tsem Rinpoche has mentioned previously about spirits in the lower realms. The description fits what Rinpoche describe about spirits who are children and how they are trapped in the lower realms. And how some child spirits would use mischief to harm the surrounding and some can be very detriment and fatal.

There are paranormal activities everywhere and it doesn’t necessary be just BEKs or child spirits. I remembered Rinpoche once told us that there are spirits if we could see, we would go mad upon sight due to the nature of how they look.

    Vinnie,
You should interview our own celebrity, Li Kim on her experience with all her episodes on the Paranormal Zone series and how she is protected by her lama & her protector.

    Dear Vinnie

Thank you for the interesting article about The Black Eye Child. Prior to this, I have never heard of them before. It is interesting that after encounter with the Black Eye child, many of the victims became ill. It must be due to their supernatural power. Whoever they are and wherever they came from, to be in their existence is quite sad. I hope they will find away to be released from this existence and able to find a good rebirth.

  10. Carmen Koo on Aug 17, 2016 at 1:36 am

I got scared reading the article! I guess because it involves children/kids, people’s first instinct is to let their guard down and with these BEKs – that is awfully dangerous! Though there is innocence in the child, this innocence is overshadowed by fear as I have read the accounts, but that fear and rationality is more often put aside, due to the guilt trips the BEK play on their victims.

There are 6 realms of existence, and within the realms, so many different classifications of beings/existence in it. I wonder what the causes is for one to be a BEK, but I know that it is only a state of pure suffering because more and more negative karma is created in harming others, and their existence continues to push them to do that – harm others. There is no good that comes out of their existence, so how long do they have to stay in that state to exhaust the karma to be in that state, while they continue to harm others?

Anyone who encounters supernatural states and beings, do recite Dorje Shugden mantra – it really helps! Om Benza Wiki Bittana Soha!

  11. Lew on Aug 16, 2016 at 11:46 am

This is the second “paranormal” article I read which is written by Ms Vinnie. From her articles about paranormal beings, I have actually learnt quite a lot. For BEKs, I kinda remember watching a few movies which have BEKs, but never really went to find out more details about them.

I live in Malaysia, a place where there are a lot paranormal beings, and there are many locals who engage in activities which involve paranormal beings. I think the important message from Vinnie is that: firstly, don’t engage them as much as possible; and secondly, when they approach us and we have “no where to run”, then we can engage divine help to protect us. To me, one of the most easy way is to chant Dorje Shugden mantra. The purpose of chanting mantra is not to hurt them, or to “kill” them, but to protect ourselves, and may they have the blessings of the Buddha and may they be released from being BEKs and move on and take a good rebirth.

  12. Pastor Shin on Aug 15, 2016 at 10:32 pm

The black eyed kids are a phenomenon where kids whose eye’s are entirely black, usually insist upon entering people’s vehicles or homes, and who seemed to cause an overwhelming sense of fear and panic when they are presence.

I have heard of them before but never really look up about them. Some eyewitnesses’ experience were also published in the newspapers, indicating that this may not be a hoax. Thank you Rinpoche & Vinnie for sharing about them, including many accounts so that we are more aware of these supernatural beings, as well as take precaution to not offend them or get into trouble.

Keep these articles coming please as I am a great fan of the paranormal 🙂

  13. Wei Theng on Aug 15, 2016 at 10:19 pm

At first I find the kids look innocent, but the more I read about it and viewed the pictures, it is really frightening.

If we encounter these beings, I believe it is also due to our past karma that we have karmic connection with them. I hope I will not meet them at all while I will dedicate prayers to them that they can have a good rebirth one day and meet with Dharma and do not need to be in this form anymore.

Interesting article. The stories/accounts from people sounds scary and that bad things will happen if the BEKs are invited into the house or vehicle. However, when we have the Three Jewel to protect us, then we can be safe. By reciting the Dorje Shugden Mantra, it will help dispel any evil.

There are many unexplained paranormal activities that is happening in this world and spirits that roam around. When we take refuge to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, we are protected.

For me, this is much more scarier than the Valak!! I have always thought that BEKs are fictional characters who only appear in horror movies or dramas.

Thank you Vinnie for this article and now i know that these beings really do exist.

  17. KarenC on Aug 15, 2016 at 6:28 pm

The picture of BKE itself is so frightening…I remember BKE was featured in one of the Japanese horror movie “Ju On” and that character was really spooky, now that when i read this post i understand more about BKE. I wonder what’s the cause for the creation of these BKEs? why would they appear only in children form and not adult? Probably children could use their innocent and symphathetic look to victimise themselves and let their potential victims to fall for their trap?

Dealing with these kind of paranormal experience, the best and most reliable solution is still invoking the protection and blessings from the Buddha such as Dorje Shugden, Singdongma or Dukkar, as mentioned in the article.

  18. Sarah Yap on Aug 14, 2016 at 11:32 pm

Thank you Vinnie for this sharing on the black eyed child. I found it very interesting and at the same time creepy. I find that anything that we always perceive as innocent but turn out not to be, is always unnerving.

There are just so many things in this world that we do not know about. We are fortunate that DS helps to protect us from all these ‘dangers’ and troubles that we may face on a daily basis. Imagine if each of our problem requires a specific mantra, wouldn’t that be very inconvenient.

Looking forward to read more paranormal articles.

  19. Choong on Aug 14, 2016 at 10:43 pm

Those old black and white photos with black eyed children are easy to produce. Just take the negative and put a dot of ink on their eyes. When the photographic film is exposed in the darkroom, the eye part will not be exposed hence will turn out black.

  20. HelenaC on Aug 14, 2016 at 10:20 pm

Ohhhhh this is so creepy…. goosebumps all the way while reading. I have no idea on this beings ability but i did watched on movie before but still don’t have a clear picture that they can be so harmful. Very scary!
As for me, whenever i feel uneasy and scared i will chant DS mantra and think of DS and RInpoche as one and it works all the time. Its powerful protector mantra.
So now… have to be aware on kids now haha…

Thanks for this super nice and creepy article Vinnie.

  21. samfoonheei on Aug 14, 2016 at 1:34 pm

Its interesting and scary when i continue reading. The black eyed child is really scary to me at least i know more of it and how to overcome it. Chanting protective mantra… OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA which is the mantra of Dorje Shugden is very important. Just wondering why these BEKs are mainly reported in the US, Europe and Australia only.Well to me as long as we do not come to contact and deal with these beings we will be alright.I do believe of their existence.
Thank you.. Vinnie for this very interesting paranormal article.

  22. JP on Aug 14, 2016 at 12:27 pm

Wow! Thank you Vinnie for this article. I keep getting wooshes and goose bumps when reading the accounts of the couple who let the children into their house. I wonder what led them to this state of existence.

I agree that we should chant mantras and bless any spirits we encounter. If they have malevolent intentions, they will disappear. If they are benevolent, they will find a moment of peace and solace from listening to the mantra being recited.

  23. Sofi on Aug 14, 2016 at 5:29 am

My goodness, this is one scary article, Vinnie. As I read, I tried avoid looking at the pictures. The little hairs on my nape tingles and I had to force myself to read until the end. Those that experienced meeting these BEKs shared the great fear that they had and yet they are still mesmerised by the BEKs’ hypnotic voice. Wonder how did BEKs come about since they are a recent phenomena. Also what exactly are their intentions, as in the couple’s story eventhough the BEKs were allowed in, they left after saying their parents are here. Which means, the BEKs have controlling parents or elders. Scary!

Thank Vinnie for this article and I am so glad that I can rely on our enlightened Protector, Dorje Shugden to be with me by chanting his mantra OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA anytime and anywhere.

  24. Echeah on Aug 14, 2016 at 2:40 am

Now that’s downright scary. They seem to play on people’s usual kindness or pity towards “innocent” children. How do we know who/what we’re dealing with? To help or not to help? That’s the question.
Thanks Vinnie, for the article. Before this I’d never heard of such a thing before, so now I learn something new. But what is true is, there are countless beings out there, and many different realms. We’re not alone.

  25. Joy on Aug 13, 2016 at 6:48 pm

Thanks Vinnie for this very interesting paranormal post. I am just curious how come these kids only appear in the West? And it is a relatively new phenomena since the earliest dated report was in the 90s… I am sure if they were “spirits” they would have been around for a much linger period of time like you know the Toyols https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/science-mysteries/toyols-the-child-spirits.html

So that makes me think that these kids are probably extraterrestrials but the evil type? Nevertheless like you said, it is best we just DO NOT entertain or talk to them… and I guess if you see strange kids asking if they can come into to your house or your car, without looking you in the eye or when they do look… it is those jet black eyes… immediately you would already get major red flag signals.

I am glad we have a Dharma protector http://www.dorjeshugden.org/practice/dorje-shugdens-mantra we can call upon to help protect us all the time but so many people out there do not have protection but hopefully from this, it will reach more people and they will be able to find a way to protect themselves. Thank you all 3 stories were freaky especially the last one! Why would allow 2 confident kids into your home at 2am?! Scary!

  26. Stella Cheang on Aug 13, 2016 at 2:02 pm

Thank you Vinnie for this well research article of Black Eye Kids. They seemed to be a recent phenomenon of the west, given that the locations where they were sighted are concentrated in the USA and some parts of Europe. The BEKs are capable of using emotional blackmail to “lure” their unassuming victims into letting them into their property. Because of their malevolent nature and the fact that they are bold and aim to disturb, it is better to have protection from a protective Deities, like Dorje Shugden, Dukkar or Sengdongma and ask for help. One of the powerful mantra that can help us swiftly in times of emergency would be OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA which is the mantra of Dorje Shugden.

  27. Sharon Ong on Aug 13, 2016 at 3:06 am

Reading this post gave me goosebumps! Bad idea to read it at such an unGodly hour. Hahaha!

One of the things that intrigued me is the origins of these BEKs as the locations that these BEKs were reported seems to be focused in the US and England. I am wondering if the BEKs are products of some kind of dark arts like our local Toyols. The eyes of these BEKs are truly one of the spookiest things I have ever seen. Thankfully, we have our Buddhist methods to counter entities such as these.

As spooked out as I am, I can’t help feeling sorry for them and pray that they will be liberated from such an existence.

Thank you for such an interesting read.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
