Update: 09/03/2013

After a 9 hour meeting last night with Rinpoche and some liaisons, it was decided that Dato’ Ruby Khong will be leading our WORLD PEACE TEMPLE project while Phng Li Kim will be heading KECHARA VILLAGE. Both these exciting developments are part of our KECHARA FOREST RETREAT, situated in the greenery and hills of Chamang, Pahang. Meanwhile, Datuk May Phng will be leading the development of Menara Kechara in Kuala Lumpur, a place in the city where all of Kechara works will be present under one roof. As the heads, these three liaisons will oversee the planning, design, construction, interiors etc – basically all aspects of these beneficial projects until completion. Please extend your congratulations and well wishes to these three Liaisons who are taking the lead in these KECHARA projects for benefit of many.

The Work Has Begun!

Exciting earthworks have been happening at the Kechara Forest Retreat over the past week! The contractors have cleared part of the front portion of the land and also the hillock for the future Ladrang. They have also cleared a new road from the front entrance leading to the back of the land where the temporary abodes are.

Rinpoche has gone to KFR a few times to perform pujas for the land gods there to ensure that work on the land continues smoothly. As the land is being cleared, there will be sentient beings (nagas, devas and land deities) whose lives and families are disturbed. A puja is performed to explain to them what we are doing at the land and Rinpoche has promised them that Kechara Forest Retreat with its huge temple will benefit them and the thousands who will be coming here in the future. More trees will also be planted to ensure that their living conditions are better.

Another exciting development is that the back portion of the KFR land has been identified by Rinpoche as the location for building the Kechara Village. It will be a place where Rinpoche can stay in the forest with his personal attendants and other Kecharians; to work and stay while construction work is being done in KFR. Rinpoche being at KFR will draw much needed positive energy for KFR to manifest swiftly.

Kechara Village will be built on five acres of land where it will consist of:

  • Rinpoche’s cabin
  • Cabins for the personal attendants
  • Cabins for guests
  • A chapel
  • A huge working/chill out area
  • Organic vegetable farm
  • Aviary
  • Stupa

All this is to create a conducive working and living environment in the forest for Rinpoche and Kecharians.

Kechara Forest Retreat is back on track!

Dear Kecharians and friends,

I joyfully wish to inform all of you that after a long meeting yesterday, on 31 July, Rinpoche has kindly given us the Blessings for the manifestation of KECHARA FOREST RETREAT. Rinpoche will make an announcement about this in due course. I thank Rinpoche for his blessings and for giving us this tremendous opportunity to benefit many. I also thank Kecharians and friends who have worked hard and contributed towards us obtaining this great privilege.

During this meeting, Rinpoche said that his blessings for the manifestation of the Kechara Forest Retreat was due to Datuk May’s sincerity and her perseverance and dedication to ensure that the Kechara Forest Retreat manifests.

Rinpoche emphasised that while the building of the physical Kechara Forest Retreat is going forward, it is vital that we must have more dedicated and committed people to run and maintain the Kechara Forest Retreat well. The Kechara Forest Retreat must be functional and not just empty buildings. It must be an institution that will benefit many.

Rinpoche was not well during this meeting, with high fever and flu but Rinpoche very patiently spent hours with a small group of students to discuss various issues, which culminated in Rinpoche giving his blessings for the manifestation of this meritorious project.

We thank Rinpoche for Rinpoche’s blessings and wish Rinpoche a speedy recovery.

Dear members and friends,

We have acquired 35 acres in Chamang in a pristine wooded area. It is an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur and from our mother Kechara House centre in the city. I wanted a place in the woods (literally) where we can practice Dharma in nature with walks, breath meditations and fresh air. We are in the process of building some temporary shelters till a few months later when we can start building permanent structures. We will start building permanent structures as soon as the approvals come… until then we still want to enjoy the place hence the temporary shelters.

I have requested Mr. William Chua to keep us posted on this blog post with pictures of the progress. You would have to visit this post regularly to see what the latest happening is! For weeks now, there have been light activities with contractors coming in and out of the land to do some work… but today Kechara volunteers have officially started coming in to lend a helping hand! The updates will start from today, where Kecharians planted over 300 flowers, shrubs and trees!!!

We have already arranged electricity, water and even internet (soon). We will have Dharma picnics, sharing, walks, pujas and relaxation at this place. I will invite people to join me here.

The president of Kechara House Datuk May Phng is in charge of the project with her great core team of Mr. Martin Chow, Mr. Joe Ang and Mr. Jeffrey Yee. Three strong and intelligent guys will be helping our lady president Datuk May.

I love the mountains, trees, birds, fresh air and open skies. I realized I am not alone. Many of our Kecharians and friends enjoy the same. This will be the perfect place. Our very own Kechara Forest Retreat!! Do read the updates below!

Kechara Forest Retreat @ Chamang

A step closer to Kechara World Peace Centre

Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) is a place like no other, nestled in the deep mountains of Chamang, Bentong. It is located about 1 1/2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. In the near future, this will be the place for anyone who wishes to seek spiritual solace and for those who wish to have some time out of their daily city life. The creation of this forest retreat is an instrumental step for getting closer to our ultimate goal, Kechara World Peace Centre (KWPC).

This retreat land is conceptualized in a way to maximise the usage of nature, hence the name Kechara Forest Retreat. The moment you step into KFR, you will be greeted by beautiful fauna and flora unlike other centres in the city. Nestled right in the middle of the land will be a Prayer Hall where everyone can go to make their wishes and prayers, or simply meditate in tranquil surroundings.

The land was successfully acquired by Kechara House under the leadership of Kechara House President, Datuk May and her team. Datuk May is working hard with her team and everyone else in Kechara to fund raise for the development of the land and servicing of the loan. Ground works have already begun with the team building a temporary abode for our Lama, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche to live in. With the sheer dedication and hard work of Datuk May and her team, the temporary abode will be up in just a few days, after which, Rinpoche will frequent the land to do prayers and blessings in preparations for the construction works.

A) The purpose
:

To have a forest retreat out of the city where people can visit or seek spiritual solace and growth. People from all walks of life are welcome to visit and practice here.

B) What the Kechara Forest Retreat will have:

1. A butterlamp house where the public can make light offerings to the Buddhas.

2. A Shakyamuni Chapel which can seat 700 people.

3. A Vajrayogini Stupa where practitioners can circumambulate. Click here to see how you can Get Involved with Vajrayogini Stupa at Kechara Forest Rtreat!

4. Forest Walks where people can enjoy nature.

5. An aviary for rescued birds.

6. An organic vegetable garden where the public can learn on how to grow vegetables in their own homes.

7. A candle-making factory where we will produce our own candles for our butterlamp house and people can also learn how to make their own candles.

8. Circumambulation paths where practitioners can circumambulate and do walking meditations.

9. Walking Meditation Paths for the serious practitioners.

10. Buddha statues will be strategically placed around the land to bless the surroundings and animals.

11. A canteen to cater to the culinary needs of the public.

12. A gift shop where people can purchase souvenirs for family and friends.

13. Private quarters for Rinpoche and his assistants, otherwise known as a Ladrang.

Disclaimer: The facilities above may change as the planning is still ongoing. We may have more or new facilities while the project is in progress.

This is not a one-off post but we will continue to update everyone on the progress, the latest news and happenings at KFR so that you will know what is going on there. Please check back weekly for more exciting news as we progress!

Regards,
William Chua

There should be a like button somewhere on this page!!! I’m itching to like this post!

The first time that I went to Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) was when Rinpoche wanted to do a Land God blessing in the middle of the night. To be honest, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. There were no lights, lots of leeches bouncing up and down all over the swampy land, it was hot and there were so so so so many bugs and mosquitoes attacking us from all directions.

I mean, it was the kind of condition where your body would scream, “GET OUT OF THERE!”

But then I realized how Rinpoche was composed despite being bitten all over the arms, and despite the fact that it was way wayy wayy above the temperature Rinpoche was used to – it must have been uncomfortable for Rinpoche, yet Rinpoche was there to bless the land.

Rinpoche is truly compassionate towards all beings: seen and unseen. Rinpoche said that there were beings on the land who will be disturbed, confused and perhaps even angry when the construction machines come in. It’s like someone knocking your house down and expecting you to be ok with it…

It was necessary to do the Land God offering to both appease them, and to keep the workers safe while constructing KFR.

Kechara Forest Retreat will benefit many. I hope to see lots and lots of new faces joining in the volunteer 🙂

Please reconsider the master plan make all of the building from local mud and grass , find power and water from local source with all intellect retrurn the bush back to the way it was keep not avaiary but allow local birds to fly free and replant forest for them to do so as for worms dug up in the earth works remember food

  13. Martin on Oct 22, 2012 at 3:14 am

A few days ago, the workers at KFR cut a new service road that goes around the land and with that you can see much more of the land that was previously hidden by the forest and trees. The service road is big and wide enough to allow bigger machines to come and do work which will accelerate development of the 3 concurrent projects (expansion of the existing cabins, Kechara Village and the main development of KFR which will offer amongst other things, a modern Gompa with traditional features that can accommodate up to 3000 people and housing a large Shakyamuni statue, the Ladrang, Galleries and a Kechara Museum, a vegetarian restaurant, circumambulation paths, Buddha walks, stupas, and a lot more).

For me, the most exciting development this past week is the clearing of the site that is to be Rinpoche’s Ladrang. I don’t quit know how to describe it and ‘stunning’ doesn’t even come near. From the top of that hill, I could see panoramic views of ponds and lakes, undulating hills and so much green all around.

May KFR manifest quickly so that many will come to be blessed by it.

  14. Martin on Oct 19, 2012 at 2:58 am

At the moment, we have 3 concurrent projects at KFR i.e. (i) expansion of existing cabin set up, (ii) Kechara Village and (iii) the main construction at KFR. On the outset they look like separate projects but very soon all three will dovetail and KFR will be up. All 3 are Masterminded by Rinpoche himself who has an amazing capacity to think in multi-dimensions…lateral and yet focussed. Most of us do not have that kind of capacity and we greatly benefit by following the Guru’s instructions to the letter.

At the boundary of the of the expansion site is a walkway flanked by trees…Rinpoche calls it the Enchanted Forest and it does look magical. Follow this and you will end up in Kechara Village. Overlooking everything is a hillock on which Rinpoche’s Ladrang will be…the Dharma King watching over his flock.

  15. Martin on Oct 16, 2012 at 1:29 pm

The tractors are getting ready to clear the grounds where we will be building a new cabin for Rinpoche, add a number of new cabins and toilets for guests, a safe “play” area for Mumus, a big kitchen and dining area, and an organic garden. All this additions will be done beside the existing cabin area. Rinpoche has had to put up with a small cabin and washroom all this time and a bigger cabin will give Rinpoche the badly needed space to work and meet guests. KFR is just growing and growing.

  16. Martin on Oct 16, 2012 at 1:21 pm

16th October 2012: Greetings from KFR. The tractors are getting ready to clear the grounds where we will be building a new cabin for Rinpoche, add a number of new cabins and toilets for guests, a safe “play” area for Mumus, a big kitchen and dining area, and an organic garden. All this additions will be done beside the existing cabin area.

Rinpoche has had to put up with a small cabin all this time and a bigger cabin and compound will give Rinpoche the badly needed space to work and plan meet with people.

  17. Martin on Oct 15, 2012 at 5:14 am

So much is happening at KFR! Early this month Datuk May and Dato’ Eric jointly kicked off KFR development, commencing with earthworks. While Kechara Village is being planned by JP Thong, Rinpoche decided to move into the existing cabins a few days ago to bring about his energy and blessing onto the land so that work can progress smoothly.

A group of us spent the last 2 days with Rinpoche up in KFR during which extension plans to the existing cabin site were discussed and decided upon by Rinpoche. As usual with Rinpoche present, ideas germinate, and quickly thoughts are put into action. Rinpoche would like extensions to KFR immediately so that it can accommodate more people to go visit and be a part of Kechara history in the making.

As of yesterday, Rinpoche has commissioned a full blown semi-outdoor kitchen to be built in the front of the PO cabin (the entire area where the first outdoor movie screening took place). In addition a proper dinning area as well as 2 additional guest cabins will be placed there. It is quite an experience to sit in the tranquil surrounds on the jungle and see your meal being cooked fresh and serve literally hot off the stove.

The area at the back and facing the forest/hill (where so many volunteers came for planting excursion) is to be converted into Rinpoche’s compound where he can receive guests and visitors. New cabins for Rinpoche’s attendants will also be placed there and the Mumus will also have their own space to enjoy the outdoors and fresh air safely. These being in place will allow Rinpoche to have extended stays at KFR which is so important for his work in spreading Dharma. The plants of course will be moved to a good location.

The existing and extended space will be well covered under new awnings ranging from 15-25 feet high to provide good airflow to catch the constant breeze that flows through KFR daily. With this new awning, KFR can then accommodate over 100 people in special pujas in the forest!

And wait for news about the organic garden planned to be located just beside the new kitchen. KFR IS manifesting and Rinpoche’s mission unfolding is truly Dharma in motion.

Stay tuned for more updates daily.

May it manifest as soon as possible.

Betty, Vera, Christine and I had the great opportunity to visit KFR just before Wesak Day. It still blows my mind how fast the team got everything up in just 21 days!!!

We were very fortunate to have been there personally to contribute to the butterlamp house while Likheng coordinated contributions from Shanghai right up to Wesak Day, just before the candles were lit on Sunday, 6th May. Thank you, Likheng! You see, we may be far away from KL but we’re grabbing every opportunity to stay connected! 🙂

On behalf of the Shanghai group who visited KL, I would like to thank Su Ming and Su An for taking us to KFR and later to the KWPC site, and a big thank you to Martin, Jeffrey and Joe (The Three Musketeers!!) for showing us around KFR and being the hearts and muscles behind this project.

Thanks, Jeffrey, for the wonderful pictures of the lit candles from 6th May!

We’ll be following your progress here!

THANK YOU !!!

Thanks for the regular updates! It is amazing to see the progress made in KFR!

I just want to thank Rinpoche and KFR Team creating this awesome platform. Before it is even officially open, many are already enjoying the Dharma benefits of KFR. This is with reference to the butterlamp offering conducted last night where over 400 butterlamps were lit. The KFR team was so kind to share the breathtaking image with me. THANK YOU!!!

Additionally, besides benefitting those in Malaysia, KFR reached friends from other parts of the world. 4 Kecharians from Shanghai made a trip to KL in celebration of Wesak Day. Not wanting to loose the opportunity to involve friends back home, they enrolled the lighting 34 candles in the Butterlamp House.

May KFR quickly manifest and benefit people from all over the world. GLOBAL Kechara go !!! 🙂

Martin and Pastor Ngeow also brought us to the rubber trees behind the “Cave” and we witness the left over stove and bath tub. Great finding. Some historical finding hahaha….everyone enjoy the trip and uploaded the pic that they took at facebook to promote to their friends! Great.

    Dear KFR volunteers,
thank you for your effort in doing work that is greatly meaningful and will benefit many in the future. And also, thanks to Yik Ming and Doreen for offering two rechargeable emergency flourescent lights to KFR. 🙂

      Hi Joe,
Great to know how hard you, Jeffery and Martin worked to clear the flooded entrance road and rebuilt it so that 43 people can enjoy being at KFR.

      Thank you, guys. Datuk May

Today was my second visit to KFR. This time I brought my hubby and children Katrina & Nicholas along. As a visitor this time round, I got the guided tour from Martin. We had a moment of silence to just enjoy what nature has to offer, ie. birds chirping, running water, insects buzzing, etc. KFR will definitely be a great meditative place for all. If we are able to be silent and open our ears/mind, we will be able to receive so much more. Thanks Rinpoche for KFR and all those who work so hard to manifest this project.

Just visited KFR again. I have the honor to visited Chamang 3 times; first time as a gardener, second time as a guest, and today as an assistant video camera man, hehe. It is very different from my first visit, there are a lot of improvement. It is very touch to see the efforts of all the Kecharian whether full timer or volunteers showing up with the result. The 3 Musketeers are always there with their musketeer boots, doing their job tirelessly, haha.

Well done, Martin, Joe and Jeffrey. You guys acted really fast to fix the road. 10 years later when you look back, you would see so many people have walked the path you lay and find their peace and happiness.

  50. william on Apr 27, 2012 at 9:01 pm

Thank you Martin, Joe and Jeffrey for your quick action in repairing the road that was flooded by the heavy rain….. great job! Your sweat and back pain are all worth it because a lot of people will benefit from visiting the place.

    • Mc on Apr 28, 2012 at 12:34 am

Jeff and Joe worked very hard indeed. I was mostly flat on my back in the cabin this time…hehe. I am again amazed that when people work sincerely for the dharma they don’t ask for breaks even though they are tired and they don’t complain that the job is hard. I mean, Joe and Jeff are 2 guys from the city…what do they know about repairing roads and shoveling sand? And yet this is precisely what they did under the very hot sun for the whole day. Jeff did really back breaking work carrying bags of sand. Those things are heavy!

The video is very good. So many Kecharians went to KFR to help out. It was a great opportunity to bond and work with Kecharians whom are usually busy with their own portfolios. All us contributed in the building of the forest retreat. The energy was wonderful.

Thank you! It is a great video! Happy to see so many working together and building Kechara Forest Retreat.
Just like Rinpoche said for KWPC, “Alone we cannot, Together we CAN!”
Let’s work together in harmony to build this KFR and create the cause for KWPC! This will benefit a lot of beings!

  53. Albert on Apr 26, 2012 at 4:05 pm

How amazing when look at the progress of KFR, it started with a thought of buying the land months ago, then start of a visual dream of where we built this, where we built that, that time, everything is just talk, can’t even see anything yet, but today, we not only acquired the land, we even started to built (this time it is not visualize, but it’s the REAL BUILDING)… we are one step, one step walking towards the plan of having a retreat centre that is out of town, where people can go do meditation and prayers.

When looking at the video, it is really touching, look at the people working, every single inch of the land is filled with efforts, sweat and tears of these hardworking and dedicated Kecharian, just imagine 10 – 20 years later when everything is well established, when we watch back this video, this is where we started…

Thank you Rinpoche for giving us the chance to do something so great.

    • Kechara Forest Retreat on Apr 27, 2012 at 12:25 am

Yes Albert, Kecharians have the opportunity to contribute to this project, through monetary or non-monetary terms. That’s why it is so great! Hope this video will inspire more people to volunteer and do more.

How wonderful! Thank you, Kechara House, Datuk May and all who are working so hard to realise yet another great project from Rinpoche!

I know it’s work in progress but is it possible to visit the KFR site… or maybe even join in to help? A small group of us from Shanghai (Christine, Betty, Vera and me) are coming to KL for the Wesak Day celebration. Time will be tight and everyone will be busy, as usual, but it would be great if we could see it…

Wouldn’t it be great if we could also have a retreat here, a peaceful sanctuary that offers a break from the hyper mode of Shanghai…

These few days, I have the great honour to help out and do some work at Kechara Forest Retreat. To me this piece of land is not just for retreat, gain merits or another temple. It is the piece of land, the Kecharians found together, and this piece of land is going to be a place for us to do our practices, work, and the benefits that we received and share it with others.

These few days, I see groups and groups of people visiting. Groups and groups of people volunteering whether it is plantation, construction or fixing furniture; it is so meaningful. Why? Because it is because of us working together, this project is possible. Gaining merits if one thing but seeing the true beauty of Unity, harmony, be a part of bringing dharma and peace to people is another. I am very happy to see many work with smiley faces because deep down inside we are all so honoured to be a part of this massive meaningful project. Never in my life I would imagine doing something like this. I am guessing you too!

Let’s make it happen people, Kecharians! Let’s make more Kecharians and bring we have to others so they can enjoy and be a part of us too! I’ll see you on the land very soon, just hola!

Thank you Rinpoche for creating this blog whereby we receive regular updated on such an exciting project.

From the write up, Kechara Forest Retreat is a significant project because it symbolizes the physical manifestation of a stepping stone to cause the swift materialization of KWPC. Additionally, KFR will also introduce a nouveau compilation of spiritual “products” to the world of Dharma.

Aligned to Kechara’s style, the time-honored, authentic and pure Dharma practice is brought into modern day life in a package that is palatable and practical through KFR. Families can plan a worry-free retreat weekend as every member can find interest and get involved in the wide range of beneficial activities within a comfortable and safe environment.

Thank you again, Rinpoche, for Rinpoche wisdom, compassion and skillfulness in disseminating the complete doctrine of Lama Tsongkapa.

Thank you to Datuk May and KFR team for your creativity, commitment and hard work to cause the continuous progress of KFR.

  76. Thierry on Apr 17, 2012 at 4:46 pm

KFR looks very nice, far away from the lights of the city for a true re-sourcing, a place where we are one with nature.
    Perfect for retreats!
What a great project this is, what great fun it must be to plant and gets hands dirty for such a meaningful purpose. The volunteers sure look like they are having a great time!

Everyone else’s contribution is no less and greatly appreciated to contribute towards this spiritual oasis in our region.

May Rinpoche’s vision manifest quickly and beneficial works spread far and wide! May all necessary resources be available for KFR to be built!

Kechara Forest Retreat is a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of KL city. The air was surprisingly cooling and pollution FREE! I saw many types of birds including a wild pheasant. It’s definitely a great place to do retreats.

DM, Martin, Joe and Jeffery have worked very hard to put up the temporary cabins and tents. It’s not easy logistically coz it’s in the middle of the jungle. And to all the volunteers who worked on the garden, it looks very beautiful! I could see a lot of love and care put into it.

Those of you who’s not been there, look out for opportunities to volunteer at KFR!

    • DR on May 7, 2012 at 10:50 pm

That’s right JP. There were so many nights when they worked late into the nights even before the electricity was installed. Datuk May, the Head of KFR Project is an amazing leader with years of experience in building big development projects. With her great stewardship, I think we can be all moving there by end of next year.

I watched the video over so many times. It is so heart warming to see the enthusiasm and team work in every part of the work. When this place is up, everyone who has had a part in its development will be so proud of the place as they have contributed in one way or another.

And to others who are reading this, get involved now. Be a part of the legacy!

KFR is a vision of Rinpoche which is transforming into reality , thanks to the blessings of Rinpoche and the leadership of this planet’s first 10 Star General !
It is a project where all Kecharians , sponsors and friends can contribute and benefit spiritually, physically, mentally and environmentally. The exciting thing is that the best is yet to come . If we are all smiles now putting effort and rejoicing to see Chamang come up , we will see bigger smiles in everyone when this Chamang effort becomes the cause for its mother to arise – KWPC.
Lets join hands to ensure the success of the above holy projects.

  82. Lim Tat Ming on Apr 17, 2012 at 1:07 am

We can imagine waking up early at 4 am daily to do our Guru Yoga of Tsongkhapa and Setrap at the KFR Gompa. Then this is followed by performing many full-length prostrations at the KFR Gompa. Then we proceed to circumambulate at the Vajrayogini Stupa many times. At the Butter-lamp house, we offer hundreds of butter-lamps to the Buddhas.

In between these practices, we do Vipassana meditation by strolling in the forest trails of KFR. The flora and fauna of KFR is such a sight to behold as we continue walking around the forest. We could hear the beautiful sound of birds and other wildlife as we breathe the fresh cool air and submerge our mind in the soothing energy of the forest.

The imagination above is way too simplistic. It is not an imagination or a dream anymore! It is a reality that Kechara Forest Retreat is offering to everyone and not just only Kecharians.

KFR is a sanctuary for the development of our mind and body. It is a place for us to get away from the busyness and stressful city life.

Thank You Rinpoche for the teaching on preciousness of our human life and doing something meaningful to our life now before it ends.

I am very happy and rejoice that all of us have the golden opportunity to contribute in one way or another to KFR. KFR is another of Rinpoche’s skillful means for us to accumulate lot of merits and to transform our mind for our future happiness.

Yes I am very excited about this just like every other Kecharians and can’t wait to visit and experience KFR physically!

Thank You Rinpoche for the inspiration and blessing for Kechara Forest Retreat.

Thank You Datuk May, Martin Chow, Joe Ang and Jeffrey Yee for your hard work in manifesting KFR so soon.

Thank You to the liaisons who are working very hard to raise funds for KFR.

  85. Loh Seng Piow on Apr 16, 2012 at 9:49 pm

As Buddha advised King Sangyal regarding the benefits of building monasteries. “Any human being building Buddha’s temple, even while still in samsara, in future lives will always have incredible wealth, like radiating palaces, like the king of devas.” That includes power and so forth. “In all the lives you will have happiness, will get good rebirth, and will create good karma in the next lives. While experiencing the result for ten millions of eons, all the time you will enjoy your life, with joyful mind, with no sorrow, and in the end will achieve the state of peace, the cessation of suffering and its causes.”

The great Indian yogi, Nagden Pawo said, “To establish a temple for the mighty aryan beings (Sangha) of Shakyamuni Buddha, soothing somebody with the words, ‘please help to build,’ ‘please donate,’ ‘please give a hand with the work’…”—any group of people who help to build a monastery, even during sleep, while standing up, eating, whatever they do, the merit of building the temple continuously increases, immeasurably.

Likewise, when we help in building Chamang – Kechara Forest Retreat, the merits will be the same as what Buddha has mentioned before.

    • MayOng on Apr 17, 2012 at 12:45 pm

Thank you, Seng Piow for these powerful reminders for us all to put our words into action, and not just talk. It is time for all of us to ‘walk the talk’.

      • Datuk May on Apr 17, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Dear Seng Piow, Thank you for the powerful teaching on generosity and merits of donation in order to benefit others and yourself being benefited the most. Wonderful reminder.

  86. Paris on Apr 16, 2012 at 9:48 pm

VERY VERY exciting for the growth of even more activity… Exciting also for this is the first venue where activity will happen and grow away from the city. Get far away from the madding crowd to a bit of peace and quiet – needed as much for the body as for the mind. This will be an amazing place for retreats, meditations, as well as active work (for when will Kechara ever be a quiet place!).

Everyone should be a part of making this grow. So many of the world’s largest centers start in this way, and become phenomenal in bringing benefit, peace, teachings and compassion to people everywhere. Let this be the next headquarters of Kechara, so we have one in the city and one away in the forest.

    Then, next step, KWPC.

    Then, conquer the world!

You know I am not exactly that excited or happy to be alive. After all what is the point to exist in eating, sleeping, fighting to pay bills, ageing, getting sick, seeing some new sights, in and out of prison-like relationships, endless emotions and it’s useless expressions, ups and downs and then you die anyway. I don’t see the point of doing this for ten, twenty, thirty, fourty or more years. After all it’s the same thing year after year ending up nowhere. It almost feels like some sort of self defeating and glorified cage. I have always been very pessimistic about living because I see it as a huge redundant useless round of activities that lead nowhere. With this Chamang headquarters of our lineage arising, it gives me something exciting to wake up to. To know what it is for..the purpose, the goal and the liberation, the benefits and the lasting results makes me want to be alive to do this. Building a headquarters for our Dharma lineage is rejuvenating and has a purpose. Anything else pales next to this. I hope everyone will consider my wishes in this and truly participate. Not in words. Not in future tense wishes, not in empty gestures, but truly get involved and get it done. After all the uselessness of life and it’s end (death) doesn’t just affect me, it affects all of us…so this project is a good counter. Tsem Rinpoche

Nestled in the foothills of Chamang at Bentong, about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, our own Kechara forest Retreat is going to be born. A private healthy grassroot retreat is said to have a profound benefit to one’s whole being mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It provides powerful benefits in terms of purifying one’s existence, increasing energy and vitality. In the near future, long or short-term accomodation, or a spiritual journey deep into the jungles, Kechara Forest Retreat at Chamang can be made a private getaway haven for your needs! All credits and thanks should go to our Datuk May, without whom, this dream would not have been born.

  100. Lim KSJC on Apr 16, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Wow, we can visualize that we will have all the facilities to do offering as in Gaden soon. So wonderful, and thanks for all volunteers and especially Datuk May with fold hands…

Its going to be a very beautiful place for the mind and soul. I salute all the Kecharians who had worked so hard to make it possible.
This is going to mark another major milestone in the history of Kechara success.

Having the 1st Kechara Forest Retreat in the mountains is the best offering Kecharians can make to Rinpoche and I am estatic, happy and rejoice for all beings. All beings on the forest retreat land will be blessed by Rinpoche. Students can also go there to do quiet retreats in this wonderful surrounding. How blessed are we!

  106. Irene Lim on Apr 16, 2012 at 7:31 am

Dear Rinpoche, the report on gardeners planting flowers at Chamang brings me back to memory lane. During the year 1997/98 when we rented the bungalow house at SEA Park for Rinpoche, I was the only garderner planting flowers along the front garden to offer Rinpoche. And about 15 years after which is now you have a group of more than 10 devoted garderners sweating away at our very own land planting flowers for Rinpoche. CONGRATULATIONS Rinpoche it is all the way but up! I truly rejoice. I truly rejoice I dont have to be the lone gardener any more…. he he…
    Love, irene

  107. Su Ming on Apr 16, 2012 at 1:14 am

Datuk May and her team did a wonderful job in getting this land. After, KFR has been completed, most of us can actually do our retreat there instead among so many distraction in town. Rinpoche has mentioned that he would like to send quite a few of us on a retreat however, at this current time, we do not have the right infrastructure.

Most of all, I am very excited that we will be inviting Rinpoche to his own mountain ladrang. It has been a long time that Rinpoche has long to be in the mountains as it is a very strong imprint from Rinpoche previous lives.

Offering to the Lama in this case Rinpoche is the highest form of offering the organisation can make as stated in the tantric text. And by this offering, we will create the causes to make Kechara bigger and we will be able to benefit more.

    Tune in for more updates

  108. William on Apr 16, 2012 at 12:51 am

There are lots of work happening this week at KFR. The temporary shelters are coming up very nicely all thanks to the supervision of Martin and his team. The most exciting would be the Butterlamp House! We will be starting to build!!!

This is absolutely exciting!!! It has been a trend for Malaysians to go to places like Japan, China, Taiwan etc for Buddhist retreats… but with Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR), very soon the trend will be the other way around! And it would be so much more convenient for Malaysians to go on retreats when KFR is up. Currently I am not aware of any other Buddhist retreat land in Malaysia.. could KFR be the first of its kind?? Judging from the design of our current buildings, I’m sure that the gompa, ladrang, butter lamp house, dormitories and private office at KFR will be just as beautiful and tastefully designed. I would love to go to KFR and exercise my green thumbs there!

    • William on Apr 15, 2012 at 11:22 pm

KFR will definitely be the first retreat with a Butterlamp house. And the construction of the butterlamp house will start this week!

I’m sure many of us are eagerly awaiting the day when KFR is built and ready, it will not be long. I would love to bring my family there for the weekend, to be in nature and be with nature and 10 minutes away by car is a refreshing waterfall for the ear, sight, smell and sense.intsPon

They want the retreat forest so much and even asking when is the next trip. I felt so blessed that we are able to make such great offering to our Lama.

I’m so glad to see some of the volunteers reschedule their plan to make join this trip.

Due to the Dorje Shugden controversy many practitioners are still oppressed due to their choice of religion. Yet there are complaisant, and obliging people too who barely understand the situation, poorly informed of the issue and behave in a way they knew what’s going on regarding the ban on Dorje Shugden. There are many good bits of wisdom and worthy words in this article. Well-intentioned people make mistakes, lots of them. Mistakes must be expected and being held accountable for. Oppression will still exist no matter how compassionate sharing with others. If we are willing to risk making mistakes we can still do something. We must constantly try to find out ways to use our privilege to push forward the voice of the oppressed. Do not allow ourselves to be immobilized by lack of knowledge.

Inspiring read of Scott Neeson a most influential person in the movie industry, walked away from Hollywood to start a charity. Left everything he had built, been famous, wealthy and living a life of luxury for the sake of those children living in the slump in Cambodia. He decided to leave Hollywood behind and moved to Cambodia and founded Cambodian Children’s Fund . It was on a trip to Phnom Penh, Scott saw hundreds of children and their families living and working on the Steung Meanchey garbage dump, one of the most toxic environments. It was a moment that changed his life, helping thousands of vulnerable children and their families escape a world of forced labour, child trafficking and desperate poverty into safety and independence. From being a self-serving person, to an extremely giving person truly inspiring. Scott has been living in Phnom Penh where his journey still captivates, inspires and bewilders people from all over the world.

Vairochana Shugden, pacifying form of Dorje Shugden is revered by many for his ability to purify one’s negative karma, pacify natural disasters and calamities. And is especially efficacious for overcoming illness and disease as well. Shize or Vairochana Shugden is the emanation of Dorje Shugden who embodies the enlightened activity of pacification. Shize’s practice is very effective in helping us to receive prophecies or develop clairvoyance. Shize’s practice is excellent for calming ourselves down and increasing our merits. His practice results in our minds becoming much happier and being alleviated from depressions. Wow we can also rely on Shize’s practice to overcome serious illnesses. It can also be engaged where the area, there are a lot of natural disasters. On the whole its practice has many benefits. When we do the practice correctly, with good motivation, Shize will bless and guide us.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great teachings on Shize who is a direct emanation of Dorje Shugden who is none other than the enlightened Manjushri.

Interesting article. I never thought meditation can help oneself quit smoking without consumption of medication or drugs. According to an article in The Buddhist Review, not smoking is a result of developing calm and reducing clinging through authentic Dharma practice. Mindfulness-based interventions can help people learn to pay attention to and work with negative feelings, cravings, and other symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. By focusing on our breathing the mind becomes calm and single-pointed. Many are aware of the health risks and addictive properties of nicotine that are harmful. Buddhism is very effective to inspire transformation in people. Good read of how a Yale psychiatrist bringing together neuroscience and Buddhist practices to help people overcome their addictions. Thank you Dr. Judson for the great research work.

Trode-khangsar a 400 year old Dorje Shugden Temple in Lhasa, had me having great memories. Having a privileged to visit it in May 2019,with my Dharma brothers and sisters. It such a Holy Temple with great stories behind it . Located in Lhasa, that is over 300 years old which is dedicated to the controversial protector deity Dorje Shugden. The Temple is a Gelugpa monastery of Tibetan Buddhism, built in the 17th century by the Fifth Dalai Lama. The Great 5th Dalai Lama composed a praise to Dorje Shugden and created a statue to honour and recognize him as a Dharma protector as apology. Trode Khangsar itself is now registered as a national heritage memorial. That’s awesome as more and more people will get to know about this Holy temple. Merely by looking at those fading murals and Holy statutes is a blessing for all who came to visit this Trode-khangsar. A place worth visiting.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. There is a belief in rebirth

Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
