Dorje Shugden’s Dice Divination
Dear friends,
One of the ways the Buddhas and enlightened beings help us is by giving us prophecies and divinations. If we trust the Buddhas and follow their advice given through divinations, then we will be able to avoid disasters or change our approach to certain aspects of our lives or important undertakings to ensure success.
Divination is one of the ways enlightened beings and Buddhas communicate with ordinary beings. While some highly realised masters such as H.H. Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche and the Mahasiddha Tagpu Pemavajra can perceive the Buddhas directly and receive instructions, teachings and advice from them, most ordinary people cannot. And so divinations is one of the methods by which we can receive the Buddhas’ advice too.
In Tibetan Buddhism, there are a few divination methods that are extremely potent and accurate. I have had the great fortune to see with my own eyes how great masters such as H.E. Kyabje Lati Rinpoche and the Mahasiddha Gen Nyima were able to foretell the future with precise accuracy by performing divinations, and thus give advice to those who sought their counsel.
In the Gelug lineage, two of the most popular and effective divination methods are that of Palden Lhamo and Dorje Shugden. Both are famous for their accuracy and we have seen how Dorje Shugden was able to help H.H. the Dalai Lama escape safely from Tibet to India. That same clairvoyance and power comes through in Dorje Shugden’s divination method which, while it is a lineage on its own, is actually based on Palden Lhamo’s divination system.
Just because we can consult Dorje Shugden through divination, it does not mean we should go to the Protector for everything under the sun. Dorje Shugden himself prefers if we try to solve our own problems first without relying on divination at the very beginning. He is most pleased when we use our own effort and intelligence to be practical and solve our problems as best as we can. Only when we are really confused or lost as to which action to take or have no other recourse, should we rely on divination for an accurate action. For example, if we want to buy a house but have three choices, all with similar qualities, pricing, benefits, dis-benefits, and if we cannot figure out which of the three will be the best option, we can request divination to get an answer.
Dorje Shugden’s divination is yet another example of the great Protector’s all pervasive compassion, wisdom and readiness to help sentient beings. It is also an example of how the Protector helps us because if we are unable to overcome our problems and obstacles, then it becomes difficult to practise Dharma meaningfully.
Please read the following article carefully and understand it well. May this increase your faith in a very benevolent Dharma Protector who has sworn to take care of sincere practitioners until they achieve Bodhicitta.
Tsem Rinpoche
The Tradition of Dorje Shugden Divination
Out of the highest compassion, enlightened beings manifest many different methods to aid practitioners along their journey of spiritual transformation to enlightenment. Often, this also means that enlightened beings have to help practitioners with their more mundane problems. Solving these problems means the practitioner is more able to engage in his Dharma practice. In fact, this is one of the unique features of Dorje Shugden, that is, the Protector is effective both in solving secular problems as well as guiding practitioners on their spiritual paths.
One of these methods is divination, through which spiritual seekers can gain timely and beneficial advice or warnings to both spiritual and worldly issues that are troubling them. Divination provides a clear insight into a particular situation or the factors affecting a person’s circumstance somewhat like an X-ray or MRI provides a medical specialist with information on how to address a patient’s problem. This is based on one of the Buddha’s core teachings, which is interdependent origination or co-dependent arising. This means that nothing happens inherently on its own and for something to happen, there must be a set of supporting conditions and factors in place. And when we have an insight into these factors and we understand the correlation between causes and results, we will then know what we need to do to augment certain desirable results or what we need to do to mitigate certain undesirable results.
Whilst the ritual of divination cannot change a person’s karma that is creating problems or obstructions, it gives the diviner important information as to the necessary and effective remedial or preventative actions to take. Divination taps into the clairvoyance of the deity we invoke to give a prophecy or advice, and whilst there are spiritual practitioners and formless beings that have some gift of foresight, their clairvoyance is not perfect. Buddhas and enlightened beings however have perfect clairvoyance and omniscience and so when the source of the divination is a fully enlightened being then the divination result is sure to be accurate provided that the person performing the divination fulfils certain conditions.
There are a number of divination methods in Tibetan Buddhism, including dough ball divination, rosary divination, mirror divination, bootstraps divination, cloth divination and the famous dice divination, known in Tibetan as Mo. Even within dice divination there are many forms, and these are associated with many different deities. Some of the most well known deities that have forms of dice divination include Manjushri, Palden Lhamo and Dorje Shugden. Given the close karmic affinity between Dorje Shugden and practitioners of this aeon, his divination method is well known to be extremely accurate.
Tsem Rinpoche and Dorje Shugden’s Divination
The first time that Tsem Rinpoche heard about Dorje Shugden divination was in his room at Zong Ladrang, while he was at Gaden Shartse Monastery in South India. ‘Ladrang’ means a lama’s household and this household belonged to H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. When Tsem Rinpoche met Zong Rinpoche in Los Angeles, he promised Zong Rinpoche that he would become a monk and enter Gaden Monastery. Rinpoche had also been invited by Zong Rinpoche to live in his house.
Tsem Rinpoche followed Zong Rinpoche’s advice to the letter and arrived in Gaden Monastery in January 1988. The manager of the household had assigned Tsem Rinpoche a small room connected to a cow shed. It had a tiled roof that would often leak and whilst the room was in poor conditions, Rinpoche was very happy to finally be in the monastery. One advantage of this room was, it was directly behind the Dorje Shugden Tenkhang or Protector Chapel separated only by a small alleyway. This was where the oracle of Gaden, known as the Choyang Duldzin Kuten would take trance of Dorje Shugden in both peaceful and wrathful forms, as well as other Dharma Protectors.
In the monastery, on the day the oracle takes trance, the ‘dung chen’ (Tibetan long horn) and ‘gya ling’ (Tibetan clarinet) are played to signal both the invitation and arrival of Dorje Shugden via the oracle in trance. One day, Rinpoche heard the instruments being played and realising what they meant, he rushed to the Tenkhang since he had no prior appointments for that day. However, Rinpoche arrived slightly late and the doors to the Tenkhang were already closed. Not to be defeated, Rinpoche stood outside a window to the chapel and being tall, he could hear clearly everything that was going on inside.
As scheduled, the Choyang Duldzin Kuten took trance of the Protector and this time, Dorje Shugden came in the peaceful form of a high lama, which is rare. In this form, the oracle wears the robes of a high lama and a pandit’s hat, and unlike when he is taking trance of more wrathful forms of the Protector, the oracle can remain in trance for a prolonged period. Following the usual procedure of a trance, Dorje Shugden bestowed blessings to those present and duly answered questions asked by those who had come to seek his advice. However, on this day something special happened.
After the usual oracular protocol, Dorje Shugden began to compose a Dorje Shugden text for divination, and followed this by giving the ‘lung’ or oral transmission for this practice, and then a commentary to the text. The oracle’s secretary at the time who later became the first abbot of Shar Gaden Monastery, H.E. Kensur Rinpoche Lobsang Phende took careful notes of Duldzin Dorje Shugden’s instructions and commentary, and this was later formally compiled into the Dorje Shugden divination text. Whilst Tsem Rinpoche was outside the whole time, Rinpoche nevertheless received the entire transmission and commentary of the Dorje Shugden divination lineage from Dorje Shugden himself and Rinpoche immediately offered three prostrations and made a mandala offering.
In sum, there are three different texts to Dorje Shugden’s very accurate divination – one given by Duldzin Dorje Shugden himself, the other by the very highly attained Dorje Shugden high lama, H.E. Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche and a third by Gyara Tulku Rinpoche Lobzang Tenzin Chokyi Wangchuk of Drepung Loseling Monastery. All Dorje Shugden divination lineages are famous for being extremely accurate and have been known to be very beneficial and effective.
Once, a lama consulted Tsem Rinpoche and requested Rinpoche to perform divination to answer a question. Rinpoche graciously complied and related to him the result of the divination. The lama then went to a very famous divination master by the name of Gen Dayang Oser to ask the exact same question and again requested Gen Dayang Oser to perform divination. Unsurprisingly both Tsem Rinpoche and the famous divination master arrived at the same divination result. This story was conveyed to Tsem Rinpoche by the lama himself. In humility, Tsem Rinpoche had on another occasion paid a visit to Gen Dayang Oser to seek advice on whether Rinpoche could perform accurate divinations. Gen Dayang Oser replied that Tsem Rinpoche could most certainly perform accurate divinations and that Palden Lhamo appeared to be helping Rinpoche.
Years later when he was preparing to come to Malaysia, Tsem Rinpoche knew that he would be performing quite a bit of divination to help the people he would be meeting. So even though Rinpoche had already received the lineage directly from Duldzin Dorje Shugden, in humility Rinpoche still sought an audience with Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche to seek his permission to perform divination. Dagom Rinpoche was another well-known divination master and also one of Rinpoche’s gurus. Dagom Rinpoche told him:
“You must have a good motivation to relieve the sufferings of others, whether this suffering is temporary or ultimate.
Dagom Rinpoche then gave formal permission for Tsem Rinpoche to perform divinations by invoking the energies of Dorje Shugden. In truth, highly realised and attained masters are already clairvoyant but many continue to use the divination dice out of sheer humility. In some cases, this is done as a skilful method to help those who fail to understand that the mind of an enlightened teacher is inseparable from the mind of the Buddha.
Dorje Shugden’s divination is performed using a six-sided dice with each side bearing a specific Tibetan alphabet – DA (ད་), DZA (ཛ་), CHA (ཆ་), KA (ཀ་), GA (ག), and PA (པ་). Each side/Tibetan alphabet has 12 to 15 categories associated with it. Some of the categories are Dharma Activity, Visitors, Friends, House or a Specific Place, Success, Legal Actions, Sickness, Life Span, Spirit Related Matters, Medical Treatments, Travelling, Wealth and Resource and so on. Depending on the category, the alphabet changes in meaning. For example, ད་ that is a good result for Dharma Activity may not mean a good result for another category.
Tsem Rinpoche’s divination dice is very special as it was made by the oracle of Dorje Shugden himself, and blessed by Dorje Shugden during trance. Later, Dorje Shugden via the oracle also told Rinpoche that he should use Dorje Shugden’s divination method to help others. This indicates that the Protector reaffirmed his permission for Rinpoche to engage in divination, and that Rinpoche’s divination comes with the Protector’s very potent blessings.
Pre-requisites
In order to engage in Dorje Shugden divination, the practitioner must meet certain pre-requisites deemed necessary in order for the practitioner/diviner to produce accurate divination results. Notwithstanding fulfilling the following prerequisites, it is also vital for one to maintain a good motivation, have clean samaya with the teacher, have faith in Dorje Shugden and always abstain from abusing the permission by performing divination for fame or monetary gain.
1. Retreats
For those who aspire to engage in the profound and beneficial practice of Dorje Shugden’s dice divination, there are a set of empowerments and retreats one must engage in.
(i) Lama Tsongkhapa
To be able to engage in Dorje Shugden’s divination, the practitioner must first receive the empowerment of Lama Tsongkhapa, specifically the long life form called Je Tse Zin Ma. In addition he/she needs to engage in a retreat – four sessions a day, during which the recitation of 100,000 Migtsema mantras and Lama Chopa liturgies are to be completed.
This practice is known not only to increase one’s life, but also one’s merits and any other elements required for a successful spiritual path. The retreat is done with the necessary offerings and tormas (ritual cakes). The duration of the retreat can be from a month to two months to complete. There is no requirement for a Fire Puja after this particular retreat.
(ii) Yamantaka
Having completed the Lama Tsongkhapa retreat, the practitioner needs to receive the initiation of the meditational deity Yamantaka Vajrabhairava, either in Solitary Hero or 13-Deity form.
This is to be followed by a retreat. Similar to the Lama Tsongkhapa retreat, he/she needs to engage in four meditation sessions every day with the required offerings and tormas. The duration of the retreat can last for as long as it takes the practitioner to recite 400,000 of the main mantra, and 40,000 each of the other three mantras. It also involves the recitation of the long sadhana of the particular form of Yamantaka he/she is practising. Upon completion, the practitioner seals the retreat with a pacifying fire puja.
(iii) Dorje Shugden
Lastly, the practitioner must request for and receive Dorje Shugden’s ‘sogtae’ or life entrustment. This life entrustment empowerment involves creating a firm connection with Dorje Shugden by holding commitments made to the Guru and the Protector, just like the commitments given to initiates of tantric meditational deities such as Yamantaka.
The life entrustment ceremony involves the guru sealing the spiritual bond between the practitioner and Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden makes an oath to protect the initiate until he/she has achieved Bodhicitta or the compassionate mind of enlightenment. The initiate in turn swears to rely on Dorje Shugden until he/she achieves the said Bodhicitta mind. Whether Bodhicitta is attained by the practitioner in this life or over the course of many lifetimes, Dorje Shugden’s sworn oath remains to guide and protect the practitioner until its fruition. During the ritual, the initiate is given a ‘lado’ or heart crystal and ‘sogkhor’ or chakra to remind him/her of the commitments and as a blessing.
Once the practitioner has received sogtae, he/she needs to engage in an extended retreat of Dorje Shugden, accumulating 1,000,000 of the main mantra, and 100,000 of the secondary mantra. As with the previous two retreats, the four sessions of meditation each day are accompanied by making offerings, inclusive of tormas; and the retreat is sealed with a sacred Dorje Shugden pacifying fire puja.
2. Permission
Once the practitioner has successfully completed the various retreats, and is firm in keeping his/her tantric commitments, he/she can then request the guru for permission to engage in Dorje Shugden’s divination, to learn the text, and to receive the commentary on the practice. The guru may then suggest for the practitioner to engage in many divination exercises to hone his/her skill.
3. The Text
After receiving the necessary permissions, the practitioner must obtain the divination text and the commentary to the text. There are three texts regarding Dorje Shugden divination:
- The first was composed by Dorje Shugden in his peaceful high lama form while in trance of the Choyang Duldzin oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery. This is the lineage that Tsem Rinpoche received directly from the Protector;
- The second was composed by Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche; and
- The third was composed by Gyara Tulku Rinpoche Lobzang Tenzin Chokyi Wangchuk of Drepung Loseling Monastery.
4. The Dice and the Divination Box
Finally, the practitioner initiated to do Dorje Shugden divination must have the necessary dice made from precious wood and consecrated by his/her lama or Dorje Shugden.
When not in use, the dice must be kept in a divination box. This is not any ordinary box as it is considered to be a portal to Dorje Shugden and must therefore be kept very well. If the divination process is adhered to strictly and correctly, no other being will be able to interfere in the divination process. Unlike other divination traditions, the Dorje Shugden divination box should be as beautiful and ornate as possible.
This is because it is considered an offering to the Protector. On the inside of the lid of the box, there should be an image of Lama Tsongkhapa or Dorje Shugden. The box should be red on the inside, and in Tsem Rinpoche’s case, the inside of Rinpoche’s divination box is lined with red velvet to absorb the sound of the dice when it is cast during the divination process. The divination box can be any shape, but a round shape is better as it is easier to hold.
5. Motivation – the Key to Divination
Motivation is the crucial key to successful and accurate divination. The practitioner performing the divination cannot receive payment, either in terms of money, gifts or fame for engaging in divinations. He/she cannot even hint at asking for payment in return for divination. This is because the practice of divination is based purely on Compassion, which is to help others overcome their suffering. If those who receive divination advice were to voluntarily, and without solicitation make an offering to the diviner once the divination is completed, then it is acceptable. However the practitioner should never engage in divination with the expectation to receive something.
Another important key to success in performing accurate divinations is humility. When a diviner performs divination it is either based on his/her own clairvoyance, or on his/her reliance on Dorje Shugden’s enlightened clairvoyance. In either case, the diviner must be extremely humble. Even an attained lama like Kyabje Lati Rinpoche who definitely had a high level of clairvoyance would hide this ability. Lati Rinpoche would always say, “The dice gave this answer” when performing divinations.
6. Other Requirements
Coupled with motivation and humility, there are other considerations that we must remember if we wish to engage in Dorje Shugden’s divination. The first is that we should maintain very good guru devotion and have clean samaya with our guru. This is not unique to Dorje Shugden divination and in fact it is the same with any Buddhist practice, especially ones that require initiations. Regardless, we must have the deepest respect for the Dharma that our guru upholds and represents. We also need to have the deepest faith in the great and powerful enlightened protector Dorje Shugden.
Casting the Divination Dice
After completing the preliminaries required to perform a divination as stipulated above, one will be qualified to cast a divination. Each day before casting the dice for that day, the diviner must perform a Dorje Shugden propitiation ritual that includes a serkyem (golden drink offering) to Dorje Shugden. Then each time before the divination is performed, the dice and the box should be purified with a stick of lit incense.
The daily propitiation ritual involves the recitation of the refuge prayer, Gaden Lhagyama, a short mandala offering, the long nine-line Migtsema recitations, dissolution verses and then the propitiation to Dorje Shugden beginning with invocation, a seven-limb prayer, request to avert obstacles, the serkyem offering accompanied by an actual tea offering, and special request. It is at this point that the diviner can cast the divination dice.
The divination is performed by raising the dice above the vessel or box, touching it three times to one’s forehead and then Dorje Shugden’s heart mantra is recited seven times – OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA. This is the pronunciation of Dorje Shugden’s mantra according to Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s lineage. According to Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s lineage, it is pronounced OM VAJRA WIKI WITRANA SOHA. Either pronunciation is acceptable.
For the best outcome, it is recommended to formulate the question in an articulate and comprehensive manner that is easy to focus on during the mantra recitation and when we cast the dice. We should cast the dice three times for each question in order to receive the immediate, long term and final outcome of the question in mind.
In order to interpret the results more extensively, we can consult the commentary in the second half of the divination text. The commentary covers several areas of our lives such as matters related to the household, engaging and starting new projects for Dharma purposes and business, prospects for guests and health, etc. The commentary provides advice on what to do, which interferences might be causing trouble and how to avert them. We should accept the outcome of the divination as a direct prophecy from Dorje Shugden himself. Upon completion of the divination, we should return the dice back into the box, close it and recite the dedication verses.
Asking Divination Questions
There are two ways of throwing the dice for an answer to a question: general and specific. In the general manner, one could ask, “Will (such and such) a decision lead to a good or bad outcome?” and for specific questions, one can have a category in mind. In general, the diviner throws the dice three times for each question:
- The first throw is indicative of the immediate outcome;
- The second throw indicates the long term outcome; and
- The third indicates the final outcome.
The third throw is considered the most important of the three as it summarises the overall result. For example, if the answers come back “very bad (first throw), very bad (second throw), very good (third throw),” that means in the beginning and in the middle, it will seem very bad, but ultimately the result will be very good for the person asking about a particular subject. Over time, as one’s connection with Dorje Shugden increases, the style in which a practitioner or diviner asks the questions will begin to differ due to more fluid practice.
In general, the clairvoyance from divination comes from two sources. The first is the clairvoyant ability of the diviner, and the other is the sacred energy of the deity invoked. In the case of Dorje Shugden divination, the source of the divination is the sacred energy of the deity and so anyone can engage in the practice as long as he/she has received the lineage, met the prerequisites and conducts the divination with pure motivation.
Divination Text Colophon
Everyone should note that Dorje Shugden in trance himself auspiciously gave this divination lineage. After composing the text, he signed off as Duldzin Kirti Dhatza Dragpa Gyaltsen and gave a dedication in the manner of a high lama. It is amazing that Dorje Shugden in trance personally and directly gave this divination lineage. In this way he compassionately taught the very method that practitioners can use to contact him when they need his help.
Such colophons are hallmarks of Tibetan texts authored by high lamas. They usually include the date and place the text was authored, who requested the text (in this case the monk Jampa Pelgye), and sources that were used as references. In this case, Dorje Shugden states his text is based on the divination text of Palden Lhamo, whom he calls the “Queen of Conquerors”. All divination texts have a similar structure to them and Dorje Shugden based his text on the structure of Palden Lhamo’s divination. In this manner his text is said to have double the blessings and efficacy.
Colophon
The way to do this decisive divination by practitioners, one needs abide in the samaya of the Life Entrustment (sogtae) of the supreme deity Dorje Shugden with the exhortation by means of the Guru’s truth, the Three Jewels and the explanation of these results. One can use this method of Mo to settle one’s aspirations and beliefs and as an infallible divination for the sake of others or whatever is necessary depending on one’s wishes. For the sake of a practice in accordance with his trust and reliance, thinking that to be without a text such as this was undesirable, the western monk from Italy, Jampa Pelgye repeatedly urged its composition. In order not to refuse him and also, because in these times when there are beings who try to perform divinations depending on whether a black or a white pebble comes up in the hand and concerning themselves with the portent of good and bad dreams.
Wishing from my side to compose this text and thinking it would be permissible to do so. I, protector of the Sakya’s (Shakya’s) Teachings, Dulzin Kirti Dhatza Dragpa Gyeltsen, spontaneously and directly expressed what arose in pure appearance to me. Using the method for making decisive divinations by means of the Queen of Conquerors, Dorje Palden Lhamo as a base. Within the tradition of the previous supreme scholars such as those beautiful ornaments of the Gelugpa teachings, the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lamas, masters and practitioners.

Introduction: Mo’s and its ritual as is used in relation to the Dharmapala Dorje Shugden
The way to practice decisive divinations by means of Gyalchen Dorje Shugden. For practitioners endowed with Samaya, who have received Sogtae (srog gtad) (life entrustment) and made effort in retreat and applied conduct. This text contains the ritual and divination results.
On an excellent cube, made from a precious wood not smaller than 2cm, draw the figures of the letters. Light fragrant incense and put the MO dice in a nice clean bowl, high up on the shrine in front of the Gurus, Yidams and Dharma protectors and cover the bowl up with some clean red cloth or silk. Go for refuge with single pointed requests to the five families of the Dharmapala. After the appropriate prayers, whilst focusing and formulating the question in a comprehensive way and with a strong trust in the Protector, cast the dice. The letter showing upwards on the face of the dice after casting, indicates the outcome of the advice and what to do and to avoid.
There are two current texts on divination which are in use and circulation. His Eminence Kyabje Dagom Dorje Chang composed one text, the other was done by Dorje Shugden Himself when He spoke through Duldzin Choyang Kuten and composed this one. Both texts are highly accurate.
When Dorje Shugden spoke through Choyang Duldzin Kuten, the session was for over two hours. Dorje Shugden gave the direct lineage, oral transmission, and explanation of this text. This text was composed on the spot. It was written down by the scribe in the presence of Dorje Shugden’s peaceful form as Duldzin.
In order to engage in this profound practice of divination relying on the infallible Dorje Shugden, it is highly recommended;
- Receive the empowerment of Tsongkhapa called: Je Tse Zin Ma and engage in formal retreat with minimum of 100,000 migtsema. No fire puja required.
- Receive the initiation of Yamantaka, solitary or 13-Deity is fine, engage in the retreat. Minimum 400,000 heart mantras, and 40,000 other three mantras each. Seal with a sacred pacifying Fire Puja.
- Receive Sogtae (life entrustment) of Dorje Shugden, engage in an extended retreat at least 1,000,000 (one million minimum) of heart mantras and long mantra 100,000 is ok. Seal with a sacred Dorje Shugden pacifying Fire puja.
Then upon finishing retreat, request one’s lama’s permission to start the divinations and can get one’s divination dice consecrated by one’s lama. One should do [divination] with the highest of motivations as in the Lam Rim Prayers or the King of Prayers.
The side benefit would be the ability to divine the future for situations beyond logical thinking or a logical course of action. When one has finished the retreat, received the permission of one’s lama, with a good motivation, one may receive questions and proceed to divine to help others.
This practice is not for only high lamas. This is for anyone who is sincere and does the divinations free of the 8 worldly dharmas as best as one can. The accuracy will depend on your samaya, guru devotion, motivations and ‘upkeep’ of your Dorje Shugden commitments. Dorje Shugden retreats are to clear the obstacles to realizing the real non-dualistic nature of the mind and thereby propelling yourself to Liberation. Wisdom is also needed; therefore, it is Manjushri in Lama form – Tsongkhapa, Manjushri in Yidam form – Yamantaka and Manjushri in Protector form – Dorje Shugden.
The Gelugs have a saying that we practice Lama Manjushri, Yidam Manjushri and Protector Manjushri. That is to all awaken the Manjushri within us lying dormant for aeons.
LTW
I received the transmission of this MO text in 1988 at Manjushri Institute by Gyalchen Duldzin Dorje Shugden himself, through Choyang Duldzin Kuten whom was at the time a good friend of mine. Later I typed the hand-written text, a translation by David Molk, up and created a proper set text. A need for the MO Dice related to this text composed in 1986, arose. I made a Dice according to the instructions from Sandalwood first for preservation purpose and later to fulfil the need for more Dice.

And wearing a golden hat on his head,
Holding a nada sword and an enemy’s heart.

OM BENZA WI KI WITRANA SOHA (7x)
[This mantra can also be pronounced as OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA]
By the validity of the Root and lineage gurus, objects of refuge,
Yidams, Heroes Dakinis and general Dharma protectors
Dorje Shugden, and entourage,
With enlightened insight,
By the ablution of the unfailing truth,
Of dependent origination, cause and effect,
I request to Elucidate the matter in consideration today,
Unblemished and without mistake, O Great Deity.
OM BENZA WI KI WITRANA SOHA (7x)
[This mantra can also be pronounced as OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA]
Raise the dice above the vessel, touch it three times to one’s forehead and recite seven times: the heart mantra. OM VAJRA WIKI VITRANA SVAHA [This mantra can also be pronounced as OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA]. The best way for a clear result is to formulate the question in an articulate and comprehensive way, so it is easy to focus during the mantra recitation and the casting of the dice. Then, cast the dice in an unbroken or cracked, well scented vessel. One should regard the outcome as the emanation of the Dharmapala’s speech, with the reverence of the Dharmapala presence.
To read the results more extensively consult the commentary included as part two of this text – advice related to several areas such as what to do, which interferences might be causing trouble and how to avert, matters for the household and advice to engage and start new projects for Dharma purposes and business, prospect for guests and health.
Consult the result as follows:
1. ད་ DA-MO of middling result but for Dharma practitioners a good mo.
2. ཛ་ TZA-MO of excellent result for the Dharma practitioner & householder.
3. ཆ་ CHA-MO is generally a bad mo result.
4. ཀ་ KA-MO of middling result for householder and Dharma practitioner.
5. ག GA-MO of an excellent result as practice for success can be completed.
6. པ་ PA-MO generally a bad mo result especially for dharma practitioners.
Part Two: Commentary to the Results
1. DA – MO of middling result but for Dharma practitioners a good mo
Prospects for a Dharma Practitioner:
Yet for the Dharma and its upholders – da – is a good mo. Furthermore, it is good to make effort in such activities as teaching the Dharma, taking ordination.
PRACTICE GENERAL: Guru Puja (Lama Chöpa) Tsog. Sponsor the recitations or do the Kelsang Pal Chen*, Dorje Denma (the four female earth protectors and family) and supplication to the protector upon whom one relies, starting these activities on an auspicious day.
Prospects for the Householder:
Although it is not unfavourable for the head of the household, worldly activity is not very good. If it is an activity which cannot be avoided, possible to do the following;
PRACTICE: Make offerings to the three jewels, practice generosity and think to benefit others. Rituals and offerings to the Landowner spirits and Nagas and give gifts. Do the preliminary practice of a hundred tormas, occasionally honour the local deities. Quite some measure of the desired goals will be accomplished.
Prospects for Guests:
Guests will come soon without delay.
Prospects for House Site:
The house or quarters are unsuitable, better to postpone or leave it.
Prospects for Intended Purpose:
The objective is strongly desired. If one is able to practice earnestly accomplishments will be quite great.
PRACTICE: Recite the mantra of the So Sor Drang wa* Sutra, make offerings and tormas.
Prospects for Dispute:
One is not victorious in the said basis of conflict.
PRACTICE: Meet peacefully and exert oneself in the averting rituals of Sitata patra (White Umbrella deity), the Heart of Wisdom Sutra and Simhamukta (Lion Face Dakini).
Prospects for Sickness:
If one has been sick for a long duration, it’s a bit difficult. However, for someone who has been sick for a short time, possible to do the following.
PRACTICE: Do long, middling and short pujas, one may erect prayer flags or victory banners on top of protector temples, or repair bridges and cast tsa tsas.
Prospects for Life:
The life root is not unstable nevertheless.
PRACTICE: Recite long life sutra (Tse Do), long life mantras (Amitayus) and save lives as much as one can (buying animals and set them free).
Prospects for Medicine:
If the doctor’s prescription is in accord with one’s own wishes, one can follow it and health will improve.
Prospects for Path:
In order to clear the path and immediately proceed on it, recite Tashi Tsegpa*, Nangsa Nang Gye*, print and put up prayer flags.
Prospects for Wealth:
It is difficult for the cherished wealth to come to hand.
2. TZA-MO of excellent result for the Dharma practitioner and householder
Especially, whatever is motivated in accordance with the Dharma, will be accomplished.
PRACTICE: The practice of the Guru Yoga for the great purpose of benefiting is supremely excellent. Put great emphasis on doing Lama Chopa with tsog, and Yug Cho or known as the Kalarupa Druchuma torma.
Prospects for the Householder:
The home life is happy.
PRACTICE: Make offerings to the Three Jewels with admiration and respect.
Prospects for House Site:
The house or quarters are good, choose an auspicious date.
Prospects for Wealth:
Cherished wealth and desired purposes will be swiftly accomplished as wished. Furthermore, desired types of business, agriculture and livestock increase.
PRACTICE: Make offerings to the Three Jewels, in particular recite well Zung-Du (the all mantra texts), Yang Gug (wealth summoning ritual from Rinchen Shugden) and the mantras of Hayagriva and Norgyuma* etc.
Prospects for Intended Purpose:
The desired aims will be swiftly accomplished without obstruction.
Prospects for Dispute:
The truthful cause is definitely victorious. A cause without a truth is better left aside. It is not good to pretend to truth with deception. If one has the truth:
PRACTICE: Perform the Four Hundred (Gya Zhi) (lights, offerings, tormas with the male and female effigies and mantras) and do propitiation. Then, one will see the case end well.
Prospects for Sickness:
Prospects for sickness are that one’s life is stable and, in connection with the doctor’s advice, if one takes the cure skillfully and continually, the sickness will be gradually dispelled.
Prospects for Life:
The life root is stable and excellent.
Prospects of Harm by Spirits:
There is a spirit which is either a king enchanter spirit (Gyel Gong) following after something taken from an old monastery, or else one is harmed by an offended protecting spirit of one’s ancestors.
PRACTICE: Persevere in recitation of the 8000 verse Prajnaparamita sutra, Sutra of Ser O, Golden light sutra. The Four Hundred. Throw King spirit catchers. Rituals to appease the Tsen (Tsen Sol) and the Cha Sum (or the three part torma ritual). See cha sum.
Prospects for Medicine:
If one has had a strong relation with a doctor for a long time, one should meet with this doctor. Otherwise if there is a choice of an acquaintance or a well-known practitioner, then that is good too. One may consult whomever is convenient and wherever there is no difficulty.
PRACTICE: Stay calm and content. Offer tormas to the Nagas (Lu tor) and the water offering tormas (Chab tor).
Prospects for Enemies:
If one has not disturbed the enemy yet, it is possible they are interfering without reason.
PRACTICE: Supplicate one particular deity and one will be victorious.
Prospects for Guests:
The pure-minded guest is soon seen.
Prospects for Business:
Acting skillfully, engage in business, agriculture and livestock with wisdom according to circumstances and it will be excellent later. The path proceeded on is convenient and will accomplish the desired aims.
Prospects for Loss:
Whether property or wealth has been secretly carried off or lost through lack of mindfulness, if one engages with skill into regaining that which was lost it is possible to recover most of it.
3. CHA-MO is generally a bad mo result
If Dharma practitioners practice with solely a Dharmic motivation, they will gradually accomplish their goals.
PRACTICE: Request the Sangha to recite the Kangyur, Guhyasamaja, Heruka and Yamantaka rituals (self entry), The Yug Cho or Druchuma tormas to Kalarupa. Mara averting activity from the White Umbrella Deity (Sitata patra – Du Dog), Fire pujas (jin sek) of the four types of activities (pacification, increasing, peaceful and averting), Preliminary practices and it is important to engage in extensive and increasing virtue.
Prospects for the Householder:
Between family members and close relations there has been dangerous kinds of activity like that of wild beasts as well as bossy (argumentative) speech such as “It’s your fault! No, it’s yours!” Due to disturbed social balance, there is no space for reasoning. As a means to increase wealth and heal the social balance and household property in particular:
PRACTICE: Consecrate stupas, bury treasure vase (ordinary) for gathering desired wealth, offer the Yug Cho (Druchuma to Kalarupa ). Do the Kangso of Vaisravana, recite the Ser O Yang Kyab (the Golden Light Wealth Protection). And as loss of wealth or enjoyment of social balance is seen especially do the ritual for summoning wealth and positive energy: Yang Gug (rinchen’s puja) and supplicate one’s particular deity.
Prospects for House Site:
If there is a way to postpone choosing the prospective residence, do so. It’s not good to negotiate for a better deal.
Prospects for Friends:
One’s friends’ prospects are middling. As for one’s wealth, there are some obstacles for livestock.
PRACTICE: Do Kangso for Vaisravana, recite the mantra of Norgyuma, do the ritual of Tzambula’s wealth accomplishment and the wealth summoning ritual (Yang Gug Rinchen Shugden puja)
Prospects for Intended Purpose:
The essence of the desired aim is not good, like a rainbow it’s too nebulous.
Prospects for Dispute:
Argument is not victorious, meet peacefully.
PRACTICE: Recite the sutra for evil disputes (Ka Chu Nagpo) and the averting ritual (Dug Dog) from Sitata patra or the White Umbrella Deity (Dug Kar).
Prospects for Sickness:
If one is skilful in keeping the patient’s abode clean and not mixing the patient’s food and clothing with those of degenerated samayas, there is no great problem.
PRACTICE: Do Kangso of the protecting deity, the recitation of Samaya Vajra, Ablution healing (Jab Trul), peaceful fire puja (Jin Sek), set many spirit catchers and effigies such as the spirit catcher in connection with Tara ( Drol ma Yul Do) and King spirit catchers (Gyel Do) and recite the Dong Gyen Do (the Stem Ornament Sutra). These are considered to be important and it is good to practice these methods successively.
Prospects for Life:
If the life root has undergone a course of treatment through medicine and rituals dedicated to long life, one may assume one will be quite joyful.
PRACTICE: If one strives in the recitation of the extensive, middling and the brief Prajnaparamita Sutras, receiving long life empowerments, engaging in life saving/freeing procedures, doing the Chi-lu for long life (long life naga), receiving a change of name etc., it will be well, no need to say to remember the Three Jewels.
Prospects of Harm by Spirits:
One is harmed by a King spirit, female spirits, ghost or, particularly, by the protective deity of the family head. The condition seems to be related to having offended the protector upon whom one relies through having broken or degenerated one’s commitments to make regular offerings etc.
PRACTICE: It is important to recite the Twenty thousand and the Eight thousand Verses of the Prajnaparamita Sutra, The four hundred Gya Zhi, and intensively worship the protective deity.
Prospects for Medicine:
Use medicine according to the doctor’s advice.
PRACTICE: Meditate on the kind root Guru and Medicine Buddha as being inseparable. It is good if one can be skillful in taking medicine and food.
Prospects for Enemies:
It is important to engage with effort in different types of rituals to avert and suppress enemies and disruptive spirits (Dra Si Non Pa)
PRACTICE: The rituals for dispelling defeat (Pam Tay Kyen Sel) and averting enemies (Dra Dog) in a peaceful manner rather than with a wrathful expression. It is good to print and put up prayer flags in colours according with the elements of the birth years of the principal and general family members together with the recitation of the Peak Ornament of the Victory Banner (Gyeltsen Tsemo Pung Gyen). It is good to make smoke offerings (Sang), supplicate the Protector and perform the ‘High praise to the deities who destroy enemies (Dra Lha Pang To).
Prospects for Guests:
It’s unlikely that the desired guests come soon.
Prospects for Business:
Middling profits in business, agriculture and milk giving livestock.
PRACTICE: Carefully do the rituals for supplication to the enemy destroying deities (Dra Lha), the assisting deities (Drog Lha). It is important to carefully investigate (the cause) whilst engaging in these.
Prospects for Loss:
Whether taken by others, oneself powerless or lost by oneself, by thinking carefully and the use of skilful means it will be alright, but better than that is not seen (or to be expected).
4. KA-MO of middling result for householder and Dharma practitioner
Ka is generally a Mo of middling result. Such things as revealing the great meaning of Dharma, or teaching the Dharma or taking ordination may be engaged in at the proper time and results will be middling.
PRACTICE: Make an effort to do preliminary practices and in making Tsog offerings.
Prospects for the Householder:
Although the home is peaceful, the guardian bears a grudge, or else, after the family members have been disharmonious the guardian deity has been offended, or the regular torma offering may have been missed.
PRACTICE: Whatever it is, do Guru Puja Tsog, Tara ritual, recite Samaya Vajra etc. And, furthermore supplicate and make offerings to the protecting deity, the guardian deity.
Prospects for House Site:
The residence is, indeed, not good in the long run.
PRACTICE: But if one supplicates the local deities, offers the torma of the four elements (jung tor) etc and if one makes offerings to those worthy of offerings and gifts to those suitable to receive gifts, it will be well.
Prospects for Friends:
Some type of obstructor has shown its face between friends or relatives.
PRACTICE: In order to avert it, recite Norgyuma’s mantra and supplicate one’s particular deity. The essence of one’s wealth will increase. Abandon the desire for desirable objects of different types, and/or the wealth about which one has doubts or not yet decided. In order to avert defeat in business through loss from within, recite the mantra of Norgyuma. Recite the sutra called Entering the Joyful City (Yang Pay Drong Kyer Jug Do). Do the wealth protecting ritual (Yang Kyab), propitiate the protectors and offer tormas to the Nagas and tormas of repayment (Len Tor). Furthermore, practice generosity and make as many offerings as possible.
Prospects for Sickness
If the symptoms of a sickness seem severe and look bad, the mo shows that there is nothing wrong or at risk, it just seems bad. If it is a Wind or Phlegm disturbance or an injury through being struck without fracture (with fracture and concussion seek medical attention).
PRACTICE: In both situations do Kangso for the general protectors and Palden Lhamo. Supplicate one’s personal deity. The deity of the country and the deity of one’s birthplace. Wear the White Umbrella Deity’s (Sitata patra) protection wheel (Dug kar sung dog), offer sang. And make supplications to the protectors. If one suspects one might have harmed a spirit, throw spirit catchers (Do) and effigies (Lu) in that direction.
Prospects for Life:
If one is able to persistently take the medicine, do healing rituals, and take good care of oneself, there is nothing wrong. Supplicate the long life deities.
Prospects of Harm by Spirits:
One is harmed either by a disturbed protector or by inner fighting between King spirits or others.
PRACTICE: Do Kangso and Tsog offerings to one’s personal deity and make offerings to the country’s deities. Throw the King spirit catcher (Gyal-do). Do the puja called ‘Four Hundred Gya zhi’ and throw the Preta spirit catcher (Kam bar do). Keep the abode clean and repeatedly make offerings to the bases of body speech and mind. Offer Sang and make ablution.
Prospects for Medicine:
If one has faith in another doctor’s advice one may change doctors and that will be all right.
PRACTICE: Do the Three-Part Torma (Cha Sum), offer the torma of the four elements (Jung Tor) and the practice of the White Umbrella deity – Sitata patra – (Dug Kar) will also be effective.
Prospects for Pregnancy:
With the practices described below all should be well.
PRACTICE: To clear away obstacles to birth and pregnancy, do much recitation of Tara’s mantra and the mother should wear the protection wheel of the So Sor Drang Ka Sutra. Do puja in worship of the protecting deity and there is nothing to fear.
Prospects for Guests:
The guest travelling nearby is seen to come soon.
Prospects for Business:
Although prospects are good for business, agriculture, real estate and dairy livestock etc. one can do some practice to clear temporary obstructing conditions.
PRACTICE: Do Tara ritual, offer Sang, make supplication, do the Nam Jom and Me Tse combined ablution ritual (Nam Me Trul) and one should be skilled in doing business.
Prospects for Intended Purpose:
There are many superstitious conceptions about the intended purpose which creates a condition making it difficult to accomplish according to one’s wishes. Although one could strive persistently it will cause dispute in the long run. If one begins something else it will be good.
Prospects for Dispute:
If one can leave aside that which is unnecessary for both you and the other, then that is good. If one has a wish to be victorious, recite thousand White Umbrella Deity’s (Sitata patra) mantras, supplicate and make offerings to the general protectors, put up prayer flags on the right days and finally one will not be defeated.
Prospects for Path:
Proceeding on whichever path convenient to oneself seems wise, if one offers Sang to the protecting deity and recites the Sutra of Dispelling the Darkness of the Ten Directions (Chog Chu mun sel) it will be fine.
5. GA – MO of an excellent result as practice for success can be completed
Ga is generally a mo of an excellent mo result. It is especially good for whomever is fit for it, whether ordained or lay to engage in Dharmic activity. However, for a practitioner it is supremely excellent. If one practices for great, everlasting aims, one is victorious.
Prospects for the Householder:
Although things are fine at home, if faced with harm from landowner deities or nagas:
PRACTICE: Do the great averting ritual called Dog chen and the ritual for the nagas called Lu Chog.
Prospects for House Site:
One will gain the residence in accordance with one’s wish.
PRACTICE: Repeatedly offer Sang and Sur to please the land and local spirit lords.
Prospects for Friends:
Real friends are beneficial like a very special medicine. Friends in name only should be cast out like something without essence. The more good acquaintances and friends the better. With increase of wealth and reputation it becomes supremely excellent. Desirable types of livestock increase. Furthermore if one obtains such things as crops, gold and silver or precious sorts of articles, as a means to stabilise them:
PRACTICE: Recite Norgyuma’s mantra, do Vaisravana Kangso, the Wealth Protecting Ritual Yang Kyab, the Wealth Summoning Ritual from Rinchen Shugden Yang Gug, and supplicate one’s own personal deity. In any case involving attainment of wealth or reputation, this will be accomplished.
Prospects for Intended Purpose:
Although it is difficult to accomplish one’s desired aims immediately, if one practices with serious effort, one will be victorious.
Prospects for Dispute:
Truthful arguments will be victorious without a doubt, if one’s standpoint is lacking truth, leave the dispute.
Prospects for Sickness:
Although there is a great imbalance of bodily elements, with the advice of a skilled physician (and the help of a loving nurse carer) and good conditions, looking after one’s health, the sickness will be gradually dispelled. Nobody can harm, life will be excellent and stable.
Prospects of Harm by Spirits:
This spirit is either a life demon (Son dre) chasing a precious thing after one has travelled to the west, or can be the harm of a landowner/king spirit being, or due to a condition after having soiled a spring, a tree or a Naga’s abode. Since one is harmed by one of these types of beings:
PRACTICE: Throw Gyel Dos or King spirit catchers, do Cha Sum the Three Part torma ritual. For the nagas, do Lu Pang Tong offering to satisfy the nagas. Sa dag don drol ritual to avert harm by landowners. Je drol ritual to avert harm from demons. Recite the Dharani of Lui Ngak Yi sum ching pa le drol, freeing the body speech and mind from bondage as many times as possible and recite the Trunk Ornament Sutra Dong Gyen Do and clean the house.
Prospects for Medicine:
One can consult one’s former physician or a new doctor. One has to consult a physician of one’s personal preference. Consider initial positive result from treatment as a good sign.
PRACTICE: Offer tormas to the Nagas Lu tor, Cha Sum the three part torma ritual and the Naga ritual to please the Nagas Lu Chog.
Prospects for Pregnancy:
PRACTICE: Recite many of the praises to Tara (the Twenty-one praises). Make prostrations and offerings at very sacred places of the Enlightened Body Speech and Mind. Do circumambulations and requesting prayers of one’s choice for success. One will bear a child of a beneficial type.
Prospects for Enemies:
Do puja for the deities who destroy enemies (Dra Lha).
Prospects for Guests:
The great beloved guest soon arrives.
Prospects for Business:
For profit in business, agriculture and livestock etc.:
PRACTICE: Offer Sang and make supplications to the protecting deities.
Prospects for Path:
The path proceeded on is good if one makes careful preparation.
Prospects for Loss:
If the wealth was stolen, recompense will come. After one has lost something through lack of mindfulness, it will be recovered. Faced with dispute:
PRACTICE: Do the Kangso of the Dharmapala upon whom one relies carefully with offerings and supplications.
6. PA – MO generally a bad mo result especially for dharma practitioners.
Prospects for the Householder:
The members of the family, each taking care of themselves, should worship the three jewels. Be intelligent and careful. If they are not careful there will be internal fighting. Parents and loving family members could be separated.
PRACTICE: The recitation of the Brief, Middling and the extensive Prajnaparamita sutras. The practice of the White Umbrella Deity Sitata patra (Du dog) will help. Recite the dispelling of all faults (Nye Pa Kun Sel), the 21 Praises of Tara, the Heart of Wisdom Sutra and make many ‘repayment’ torma (Len tor) offerings and also Naga tormas (Lu tor).
Prospects for House Site:
Rather than a place which is temporarily nice, if one moves to a previous residence it’s okay but not to a new place because it will be difficult to get a new place in accordance to one’s wishes.
Prospects for Friends:
To abandon affection for long-term friends in favour of those who are just temporarily helpful is harmful.
Prospects for Wealth:
If one wishes wealth, one should recite many mantras for protection and the increase of wealth and livestock.
PRACTICE: Recite the mantras of the White Umbrella Deity Sitata patra (Du dog), the Eight Thousand Verses of the extensive Prajnaparamita sutras. The Golden Light Sutra (Ser-O). Do the Kangso of White Mahakala and Vaisravana. And do the full ritual of the treasure vase of the Blazer of Glory of the three realms Rinchen Shugden and hiding it, sponsor a lama to do this. It is best if one preserves in un-broken, timely practice of Kangso and Tsog offerings with fellow practitioners of pure samaya. Also, in wealth summoning (Yang Gug), wealth accomplishing (Yang Drub), and in wealth restoring (Yang So) types of rituals. Furthermore, do peaceful fire puja (Jin sek) of Dorje Shugden. Offer Sang and do supplicating and appeasing rituals (Sol).
Prospects for Intended Purpose:
It is difficult to accomplish the desired aims at the moment. It is better to leave it if possible. However, if there is work that cannot be avoided, it is good if one throws spirit catchers (Do) and practice wrathful mantric activity.
Prospects for Enemies:
It is not good to oppose the enemy. There will be no difference in regard to victory if one meets the challenge with peaceful means.
Prospects for Dispute:
There is no victory in a meaningless dispute. If confronted with bullying, a violent opponent:
PRACTICE: Do the great averting ritual (Dog chen) of Tara, recite the Heart of Wisdom Sutra, the White Umbrella Deity Sitata patra (Du dog), and make supplication of one’s own related deity.
Prospects for Sickness:
For this difficult imbalance of bodily elements, the patient must take medications for a long time, no other method will help.
PRACTICE: Recite as many times as possible (Kun Rig), recite the Heart of Wisdom mantra, the White Umbrella Deity Sitata patra (Du dog), and recite a text called Za Yum. Receive authorisation to practice Garuda Vajrapani, receive the Jab Trul healing ablution, recite Nang Sa Nang Gye. Offer tormas to the four elements (protectors of the four directions) the Jung Zhi. Offer repayment tormas to the Nagas (Len Lu tor). Do long life ritual Tse Chog and practice vast generosity for a year.
Prospects for Life:
In order to stabilise the root of life:
PRACTICE: Do long life practice. Take an Amitayus initiation and do the Nam Gyel Ma practice, the Tse Chog long life ritual. Receive a new name, change one’s clothing and give things for the Dharma to clear away obstructions. If one is of vast minded motivation, practice giving and taking (Tong len). The main thing is to clear away obstructions though purification. After having traveled far, it seems that one is harmed by either a king enchanter spirit (Gyel Gong) following after an object one has, or by a Naga or Tsen spirit whose abode such as a spring, one has defiled. Throw preta spirit catchers (Kam Bar Do), recite the Pure Gold Sutra (Dag Ser Do), recite four hundred mantras of ‘Gya zhi’. Throw effigies (lu) and do rituals for the Nagas.
Prospect for Medicines:
Consult the doctor of one’s wish. Don’t keep changing doctors. It is best if you follow the original one’s advice.
Prospects for Pregnancy:
Chances for pregnancy are not good.
PRACTICE: If one makes offerings to the Three Jewels, practice generosity, do hundred thousand recitations of the Twenty-one praises to Tara together with the sadhana practice, make single pointed requests for the ripening of one’s hopes, the parents will be delighted with the conception of a boy or girl.
Prospects for Guests:
By either hearing unhappy news about the awaited guest or receiving some object from them, one’s doubts will be dispelled.
Prospects for Business:
If one has already begun some business for profit, one should do vast practices for dispelling obstructions. If one is about to begin something, it is better to leave it.
Prospects for Path:
If one is accompanied by good close friends, it is good. And to clear away obstructions, when embarking one should offer Sang and make supplications (Sol) to one’s protector, recite Nang Sa Nang Gye, Tashi Tseg Pa and recite White Umbrella Sutra a thousand times.
Prospects for Loss:
That, which has been seized by others will soon be recovered without delay. That, of which there is doubt as to its location, has little hope for recovery.

The way to do this decisive divination by practitioners, one needs abide in the samaya of the Life Entrustment of the supreme deity Dorje Shugden with the exhortation by means of the Guru’s truth, the Three Jewels and the explanation of these results.
At this day, Saka Dawa, the twenty eight day of the Fire
Tiger year in my central abode Podrang Dechen Chog.
May Virtue and Goodness Increase (5th June 1986).
Since there were many omissions and mistakes in the first edition after its composition, on request by the Italian monk, Jampa Pelgye, I, Choyang Kuten upon request, conscientiously made this second edition from which 500 copies were printed. It is not meant for general distribution. If one has a personal desire for it, it is to be offered upon request without payment. 1988 Tibetan year of the Earth Dragon.

Dice divination, a fascinating and ancient method of fortune-telling, has been used by various cultures throughout history. Dice hold different meanings and symbolism in various religious traditions, representing chance, fate, and the connection between humans and the divine. Dice are commonly used as divination tools in modern witchcraft and are interpreted to seek insight and guidance from higher powers. Despite all the different rules and approaches, all forms of dice divination are basically the more same.
In Tibetan Buddhism there are a number of divination methods. Even within dice divination there are many forms, and these are associated with many different deities such as Manjushri, Palden Lhamo and Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden divination method is well known to be extremely accurate , very beneficial and effective.
Our Guru H E Tsem Rinpoche had received the entire transmission and commentary of the Dorje Shugden divination lineage from Dorje Shugden himself. One should maintain very good guru devotion and have clean samaya with our guru with ,have respect for the Dharma and have the deepest faith in the great and powerful enlightened protector Dorje Shugden to do the divination.Tsem Rinpoche has helped thousands of people through his divination methods in Malaysia. Interesting read , more to understand about it.
Thank you Rinpohe for this sharing with us .
Great post on Dorje Shugden Dice Divination. Revisit this article again to understand better. Interesting to have the knowledge the effectiveness of divination that has benefited those who seek for advice or are having some sort of obstacles. Dorje Shugden who is enlightened Dharma Protector, so Dorje Shugden divination is definitely for sure to be highly accurate .Wow….it is fascinating about this divination lineage is, Dorje Shugden gave transmissions and explanations on his own text he composed during the trance. A lot more to read and understand, mainly its for those who have good motivation, clean samaya with the guru, trust and have faith in Dorje Shugden and always abstain from abusing the permission by performing divination for fame or monetary gain.
Thank you Rinpohe for this sharing.
Understanding the importance of divination and how its helps us in our life. We too know that every religion has its spiritual believe and how to perform their prayers, but without divination nothing is possible.
Divination might be important for more serious matters and not some trivial things, as the protector would like us to work hard and solve our own issues too.Thank you very much for the good article.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing with us the mysterious part on Buddhism. I didn’t know divination is also practised in Buddhism, I have always thought divination is only practised by non-Buddhist. This shows how compassionate Buddha is, Buddha will use different ways to help people.
Since most of us don’t have the karma or merit to connect with Buddha directly, divination is the best way to seek advice from an enlightened being. Taking refuge and asking for advice from an enlightened being is safe because Buddha is omniscient and Buddha will give us guidance that will truly benefit us.
Thank you so much for this article. It is true that divination is one of the ways for enlightened beings and Buddhas communicate with ordinary beings. Just because we can consult Dorje Shugden through divination, it does not mean we should go to the Protector for everything under the sun.
Dorje Shugden himself prefers to see we try to solve our own problems first without relying on divination at the very beginning. Dorje Shugden is most pleased when we use our own effort and intelligence to be practical and solve our problems as best as we can.
Thank you Rinpoche for explaining in details the practice of Dorje Shugden’s Dice Divination.
Most strike me is when Dagom Rinpoche giving advice to Tsem Rinpoche when Rinpoche seeking permission to do dice divination: “You must have a good motivation to relieve the sufferings of others, whether this suffering is temporary or ultimate.” I can see how compassion and kind Dorje Shugden and the Dorje Shugden Lamas are. There are many people used divination as a method to get money but Dorje Shugden and Dagom Rinpoche adviced whoever do divination must have good motivation, be compassion and be humble.
I bowed down to the mighty protector Dorje Shugden.
Dorje Shugden Taking Trance in Peaceful Form
This video has two parts. The first part was filmed in Gaden Shartse Monastery in Mundgod, Karnataka State, South India, and the second part was filmed in Europe.
In the past, Gaden Monastery was home to a very well-known and extremely powerful oracle by the name of Choyang Duldzin Kuten. He was the official oracle of Gaden Monastery and a layman. He was not learned in the Sutras or Tantras, yet he served the monastery very well in his capacity as an oracle.
He took trance of various powerful Dharma Protectors of the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon, such as Kache Marpo, Namkar Barzin, Dorje Shugden and Setrap. In Dorje Shugden’s case, he took trance of both the peaceful and wrathful forms of Dorje Shugden.
As everyone knows, Dorje Shugden arose when a very high lama by the name of Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, who lived during the time of H.H. the 5th Dalai Lama, took rebirth as a Dharma Protector in order to fulfill the vow he had made in one of his previous lives. This vow was to become a Protector of the Buddhadharma in general and the path of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically. During his lifetime, Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen was known as a renowned logician, debater, teacher and Mahasiddha. As a result of holding his vows, he achieved high states of spiritual attainment.
When Dorje Shugden takes trance in a fully trained oracle, he can appear in two distinct forms, allowing others to not only receive his blessings in person but also free themselves from the emotional baggage that exists today.
In his peaceful form, he appears dressed in the clothes of a high lama. Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche has mentioned this clearly. For Dorje Shugden’s peaceful form, the oracle wears the golden hat of Lama Tsongkhapa and the three robes of a fully ordained monk. While in trance, he speaks like a human would to another human. It is only when Dorje Shugden is entering the oracle and when he is leaving that we see a visible change. At all other times in between, he speaks very smoothly and very calmly. He is able to give initiations, perform rituals and prayers, answer questions clairvoyantly and also do purifications.
For Dorje Shugden’s wrathful form, the oracle wears the wrathful regalia of a high level Dharma Protector. He is not able to remain long in this state due to the wrathful nature of this emanation.
In this video, you will see the famous Gaden Shartse oracle Choyang Duldzin Kuten, who was authorised and blessed by Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang and Kyabje Zong Dorje Chang to be the official oracle of Dorje Shugden. Here you can see him taking trance in the Gyelchen Tenkhang, which was built by Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.
There are many lamas, students and disciples seeking audience, blessings and advice from Dorje Shugden in his peaceful form. You’ll see Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s personal attendant Kungo Palden-la, Gangchen Rinpoche and Tsem Rinpoche in attendance.
During the 2nd part of the video, you will see Dorje Shugden taking trance. At [23:34], you can see the Protector entering the oracle as he is invoked. At [33:09], you will see him leaving the oracle after giving advice and blessings to all. As he leaves, he makes prayers for everyone to achieve Bodhicitta.
Timestamps of note in the video:
12.52 – Kyabje Gangchen Rinpoche
13:01 – Tsem Rinpoche
13:09 – Kungo Palden-la, personal attendant of His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche
19.49 – Tsem Rinpoche
21.20 – Choyang Dulzin Kuten in Europe, getting ready to take peaceful trance of Dorje Shugden
32:46 – Dorje Shugden doing prayers and dedications for the benefit of those who sought audience. Here, he is about to leave the oracle’s body.

Thank you Rinpoche and PNP for sharing this rare video of Dorje Shugden in peaceful trance.
Hope I have the blessings to attend the trance and meet the Divine Dorje Shugden again soon. ?
I admire one part of the most interesting and how famous Dice Divination Story of Dorje Shugden story today. Understanding the importance of divination and how its helps us in our life. We too know that every religion has its spiritual believe and how to perform their prayers, but without divination nothing is possible. We do often hear people achieve to solve or overcome their problems after consulting a guru, This because the guru guide’s them and ask them to practice and follow his instruction and advice in certain period of time, by right its is divination. Here, I understand how Dorje Shugden has communicated and helped people with the help of Tsem Rinpoche .
Getting to know Tsem Rinpoche closer and the Tibetan Buddhism culture of divination. I was very excited to know the Tibetans Buddhism was famous for the dough divination and very well know because of the Dice. People believe in the method and the beauty of the results was extremely potent and accurate. The powerful of the culture has healed up today, and we can see Dorje Shugden picture in trance.
I must thanks Tsem Rinpoche for give an opportunity to view the video and write up the mantras for benefit of others. Most of the photos captured was very amazing, and the blessing of Dorje Shugden impressed me too. I wish to visit Kechara Bentong with my friends and to view the Statues of Buddha there.
Thank you Rinpoche and the writers for making it very clear what happens and how people can train to be divination masters.
It is also so very beneficial for people to receive divination results for the questions they need to ask. In this day and age, that people are influenced by things and phenomena from online, around the world etc…. people need accurate information to help them.
Dharma protectors do work together to bring sentient beings to enlightenment, I was pleasantly surprised to know that Dorje Shugden divination text is based on the Palden Lhamo method of divination.
Thank you Rinpoche for this informative post on Dorje Shugden Dice Divination. It is very interesting to see the effectiveness of Dorje Shugden divination able to help those who seek for advice when one facing obstacles in life or trouble at correct decision to be made, and DS divination always comes out accurate.
Reading this post, the divination plays an important role as one must have the correct motivation to use the divination to help the requester, and through the divination able to give advice for what need to be done next.
No matter how accurate the divination is, and what advice given on what is the next course of action, if the requester doesn not follow thoroughly the advice being given, or skip some part, the result may not turn out as accurately as given, because the karma changed due to not following 101% advice of the Lama.
Mantras are sacred verbalized words that invoke the protection and blessings of the deity to whom the mantra is ascribed. Mantras are also the manifestations of Buddhas in the form of ‘sounds’, hence the various mantras of Dorje Shugden contain the essence of the Protector.
Dorje Shugden’s main mantra 多杰雄登主要咒语

Dorje Shugden is so powerful and modern! He know that people like to do divination or to ask help from oracle when they are confuse. When people met with obstacles, they will feel fear, uncertain and confuse. And sometimes, when a person have tried so many methods to solve problems and yet no result, the last resources is to seek for spiritual help. Thus, to have accurate result on divination is so important to guide a person who are suffering in great deal.
It is great to know that Dorje Shugden have divination method that come from Dorje Shugden Himself. Best part is, our guru H.E Tsem Rinpoche could performed the divination.
I have personally experience help from H.E Tsem Rinpoche, through divination result, it guided my family to have clear picture on what is going on and how to tackle the situation. Because of the help that we received from Rinpoche, our family release from the suffering and that make them came to Dharma and learn Dharma to help others. I thanks Rinpoche a lot on this.
Thus, I realise, divination we received from other deity and from Buddha is different. It is not only accurate, but, at the end, it is for us to come into dharma. To learn and practice dharma
This is one of my favourite topic on divination. It’s very interesting and i enjoyed reading this article. It’s such a long process to learn Dorje Shugden dice divination. What is fascinating about this divination lineage is, Dorje Shugden gave transmissions and explanations on his own text he composed during the trance. Therefore, this divination lineage is authentic and reliable. What I have learned from this blog post is that to perform divination we must keep our vows and commitments strongly, do any retreats your lama wishes, work hard, have deep faith in DS and you cannot perform divinations for material gain. DS divination has been known to be extremely accurate. Divination might be important for more serious matters and not some trivial things, as the protector would like us to work hard and solve our own issues too. I would like to express my gratitude to my dearest Rinpoche for doing a divination upon request regarding my doubts about complicated health problems with full faith and trust for the advice Rinpoche had given to me. Thank you very much Rinpoche for everything and writers for this interesting and informative article.????
What I have learned from this blog post is that to perform divination we must keep our vows and commitments strongly, do any retreats your lama wishes, work hard, have deep faith in DS and you cannot perform divinations for material gain. DS divination has been known to be extremely accurate. Divination might be important for more serious matters and not some trivial things, as the protector would like us to work hard and solve our own issues too, We also need to make effort not just rely on the divine. High lamas, as well as lay people, have benefited from Dorje Shugden divination throughout the centuries.
Dorje Shugden divination is known to be highly accurate. Dorje Shugden who is enlightened protector, took trance of the previous oracle, Choyang Dulzin Kuten to compose divination text. What is fascinating about this divination lineage is, Dorje Shugden gave transmissions and explanations on his own text he composed during the trance. Therefore, this divination lineage is authentic and reliable.
Besides having a pure lineage, the person who performs divination must undergo series of practices, mantra recitation, retreats, contemplation and meditation under guidance of a genuine Lama. This is to purify ones karma, clear obstacles and accumulate merits to gain deeper realization of the non-dualistic nature of the mind. This helps the person who perform divination generate pure motivation, that is to relief the sufferings of sentient beings. Coupled with absolute faith to his/her Guru and Dorje Shugden and fulfilled Dorje Shugden commitments, divination performed will have accurate results.
We encounter countless difficulties and endless problems in our daily life. Many people seek comfort in fortune-telling, astrology, or numerology. People are searching for guidance and answers to many questions. Dorje Shugden divination definitely can help because enlightened being has no bias benefit us in the long term. Great masters and high lamas as well as lay people have been benefited from Dorje Shugden divination.
We must also realize that divination is meant for dealing with very important matter and not merely to satisfy our own greed or simply to find an easy way out. What we are experiencing now is result from our actions before head whether this life or our previous life. Therefore, we are responsible on our own actions and practicing dharma consistently is the only way to overcome sufferings. When we come to a point where we have run out of options but to seek help from divination, we should follow the instructions or solutions given because it is advice from an enlightened protector who only wishes is to liberate us from sufferings for ultimate happiness, which is to achieve enlightenment.
Dear friends,
Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.
You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.
Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.
May you be safe, protected and blessed.
