Grand Puja at Malacca’s Dorje Shugden Chapel! |
Dear friends around the world,
On November 24, 2018, a grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted at Malacca’s Dorje Shugden Chapel to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Three years ago, some of my devoted students heard that I had the wish of having a chapel to Dorje Shugden in Malacca. I have visited Malacca many times and some of my oldest students live there. They made my wish come true on October 10, 2015. These students, wanting others to benefit from the practice of Dorje Shugden just like they had, found the place, had it renovated and presented it to me as an auspicious offering for my birthday. I could not believe it! I just love it when people spread spirituality with others. I was thrilled and extremely happy about the project as many people will benefit from praying and making offerings to Lord Dorje Shugden.
Renovations of the chapel took seven weekends in total. Everything was prepared and handled by our lovely and dedicated Malacca team. I would like to thank our kind landlord Mr Gan and his wife for lending us the space, the kind sponsors, the committee, volunteers, and students and friends who were involved in creating this chapel. Kudos to our puja team for setting up and performing the sacred puja.
Nothing brings me more happiness than sharing the Buddha’s teachings of compassion, generosity, acceptance and wisdom, as well as the practice of Dorje Shugden, with others. Dorje Shugden’s practice gives us hope, can save lives and aids everyone that needs help. I truly rejoice from the bottom of my heart because everyone involved will be blessed as more and more people make a connection with none other than Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit many more people.
Humbly,
Tsem Rinpoche
A Short History of Malacca
The history of Malacca dates back to 1396, when the Sumatran Prince Parameswara fled his country after fearing attack from the Majapahit Empire. Legend says that he came to rest under a tree one day, where he witnessed a mouse deer kick his own hunting dog into the river. Taking it as an auspicious sign, he decided to settle and develop the area. He named it after the type of tree he was resting under, “Melaka” which is also spelt “Malacca”.
In 1414, Prince Parameswara converted to Islam, making him the first Sultan of Malacca. Since that time Malacca became a prominent trading ground for traders from across Asia, including China and India. It even has strong trade connections with the Arabian Peninsula. As a result, there was large scale immigration from China. As both Chinese and Malaysian cultures and people mixed, this led to the birth of the truly unique Peranakan culture. Malacca’s relationship with China was established through the explorer Zheng He and later solidified via the marriage of Sultan Mansor Shah and Hang Li Poh.

Dear Rinpoche and everyone,
I would like to share a short video and photos taken during the Dorje Shugden Grand Puja at Jonker Street Dorje Shugden Chapel, Malacca last night.
The Puja attracted many curious tourists as the chants and music could be heard from noisy Jonker Walk. We took the opportunity to invite them for the Puja and introduce them to Dorje Shugden. My two boys helped distribute collaterals as well as flyers promoting our Gyenze Chapel and Puja services.
Our landlord Mr Gan and his wife, Jo were very supportive and helpful. They sponsored many things including food, soft drinks, sound system, tables and chairs. They are also co-sponsors for the Puja and were a huge help in setting up the premises for this celebration.
From our offerings, 80% was given to Kechara Soup Kitchen Malacca’s new Food Bank. Bronson Loh of Kechara Soup Kitchen Malacca attended the Puja with his lovely wife and super cute son.
I must commend our Puja Team on a job well done. They even managed to make torma flowers on the spot! Pastor Kok Yek Yee and her team are professional and efficient. I like working with them as they are nice, helpful and easy to work with.
Attached is a photo of our landlord whose faith in Dorje Shugden I see has increased significantly since we started this chapel. It’s rewarding to see how our little chapel has touched lives.
Thank you, Rinpoche, for bringing DS into my life.
With folded hands,
Sharon
