A Personal Account of Events with My Teacher – Perfect Clairvoyance
Martin has been a student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche since 2010 and in that time he has had the privilege of closely witnessing how Rinpoche works, the unfathomable things Rinpoche does for people quietly, how lives have miraculously changed because of Rinpoche’s Dharma and what drives Rinpoche. As someone who came to the Dharma at a mature age, Martin shares interesting insights, stories and his experiences with Rinpoche both from a secular as well as a spiritual perspective.
Perfect Clairvoyance
I first met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche in the year 2010 when I was in my 40s. As such, it was not easy for anything or anyone to make an impression on me, especially given the fact that I have not lived a sheltered life. On that occasion I was helping out with Kechara Soup Kitchen’s food preparation when Rinpoche suddenly dropped in.
My immediate impression upon seeing Rinpoche was that Rinpoche exuded incredible charisma and kindness. He must be very kind to think about the homeless in such a sincere way that he did something tangible about it and in such a sustained way. Rinpoche spoke only briefly and I remember being impressed that he can inspire kindness in so many people. At that time I was not even a Buddhist and was earnestly pursuing another spiritual path. However my studies of that religion which spanned over 10 years raised more questions than they answered. Also there was no space or opportunity to voice doubts and be allowed to closely examine what I was asked to believe. I was simply told that we need to have faith as the almighty works in mysterious ways. And so I accepted but still the nagging questions never left me.
I still remember the first time I attended Rinpoche’s public teaching. It is on Rinpoche’s YouTube as ‘You and Your Imprints’. In a few brief moments, Rinpoche somehow addressed and answered many of the questions that I had been wrestling with that my own religion could not provide. And what was even more startling was the fact that I didn’t even ask Rinpoche any questions. Rinpoche simply knew that I had been looking for answers to move ahead in my spirituality and Rinpoche kindly responded to my thirst. I did not feel that Rinpoche provided me with what I needed to know to prove the superiority of the Buddha’s teachings. It felt very clearly that it was simply a gesture that arose out of pure kindness so that I could put my mind at ease.
That first teaching with Rinpoche left me baffled and at the same time relieved. Baffled because I could not work out how this monk knew exactly what was troubling my mind and what aspects of spirituality I could not resolve. And this monk managed to put my mind to ease in a few minutes with answers that were so clear, logically irrefutable in a language I understood, and without demanding that I believe blindly. Everyone else I had met before confused me even more when they attempted to answer my questions. Relieved because for the first time, I felt no conflict between religions. I felt no conflict between people and between all beings. Rinpoche taught in such a simple and brilliant way that even the dullest listener would be able to see the universality of Truth and how soothing this Truth is, without a need to insist that one faith is more superior to another. Tsem Rinpoche does not teach religion. Rinpoche teaches facts and logic and most important, Rinpoche shows us the capacity of our own mind to discern truth from fiction. For a brief moment, I felt balance in all things. And this is a very unique characteristic of Tsem Rinpoche, that whatever little time you spend listening to Rinpoche, you walk away with clarity and feeling empowered to take charge of your life and ‘destiny’.
Over the years, I have seen Rinpoche manifest clairvoyance and omniscience over and over again and all the time making it sound like Rinpoche accidentally “stumbled” across something purely by coincidence. I have learned from observation that there is no such thing as coincidence when it comes to Rinpoche. There is however, infinite compassion and wisdom of an enlightened teacher who brings into being the most beneficial situation or advice that is needed at any given point in time, and for everyone he meets regardless of who they are and whether they are his student or not.
I have since learned that Buddhas and Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas) are like that. It is said that when the Buddha spoke, everyone in the audience heard the Buddha clearly no matter how far away they sat. And no matter what language they spoke they heard the Buddha’s words in their own language. It also follows that it did not matter if they articulated their questions or asked the questions silently. The Buddha simply knew. This trait in Rinpoche too is without question.
There are many aspects to Tsem Rinpoche – a tulku, a Rinpoche, a teacher, a father/mother/brother/sister, a true friend, a supernatural protector, a pandit, a magician, a genius, a philosopher, a social defender, an empath, a motivator, a stimulus and living spark, a humorist and an unbelievable impressionist, a designer, an animal lover, a game changer and it goes on. Each is like a perfect cut of a flawless diamond and each ultimately leads you to an undeniable conclusion that this is far from an ordinary human being.

Thank you, Martin, for sharing your experiences with Rinpoche. Yes, I too share the amazing experience of Rinpoche seemingly answering my questions. And this was from listening to Rinpoche’s Youtube teachings. From one teaching, I would have questions and upon listening to the next, I would have my questions answered. It is as if he had specifically heard my questions and recorded the video just to answer my set of questions. But he has not as I found out the video teachings were few years old. And this went on and on until the fruitful time when I joined Kechara for the Setrap puja. Since then, there had been many moments of miracles that people had shared, especially through the practice of enlightened protector, Dorje Shugden who Rinpoche had so kindly introduced to us. Rinpoche’s compassion for everyone is endless in the way he never gives up in his caring and employment of methods to help. We are very fortunate to have Rinpoche as our Guru.
Dear Martin,
What a lovely sharing about your old experience with Rinpoche during your earlier days in Kechara. Now I understand why you’re so encouraging about volunteering in KSK as you have fond memories and experience during your time spent volunteering in KSK during your earlier days . I have also personally experienced Rinpoche’s clairvoyance many times. I sincerely believe Rinpoche can read my mind and it’s not really a coincident when something is on my mind or when i’m feeling unhappy about someone or some situation, Rinpoche will quote something that really fits in. I still remember quite recently when i was very upset that morning, Rinpoche tagged me with his old picture from “They were not wrong ” profile. And that really helped to cheer me up the whole week!?
Thank you Rinpoche and Martin for this beautiful sharing and hope to hear more from you again with more wonderful writings, Martin???☘️???
