Animal Sanctuary in Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB)
Last Monday, Dato’ Ruby, JP, Adrian, Bonita, Kwok Wai, Pastor Loh Seng Piow, Monlam, Susan, Wee Liang and I drove ½ hr away from KL to Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB).
At KKB, there is an animal sanctuary on a 7-acre piece of land. It houses 60 dogs!
The person behind it all is a lady named Karin. She decided to start an animal sanctuary simply because of her desire to take care of dogs that were in need of a home.
Previously, she served as the state councilor for the Kuala Kubu district. As the years went by, she saw many many dogs that were in need of help… this touched her deeply, as she is a born animal lover and so she made the move to start this beautiful animal sanctuary.
It has been 1 year and 4 months since she started running the sanctuary with 2 other people.
The place is very simple but it is done with a lot of love and compassion. Karin expressed that they are very limited in resources, and it is because of these financial constraints that they are looking for help.
She currently funds the operational cost of the animal shelter from her pay as a swimming teacher.
Karin is a very upbeat lady, lives frugally and is very considerate when she takes care of her dogs. She calls all of her 60 dogs by their individual names, and has a quarantine area for the newly adopted strays. All of the newbies get checked for any contagious diseases.
I have pledged to give them RM3000 worth of dog food per month, for a year. Hopefully this will help ease some of their financial worries…
Do take a look at the video… if you’re inspired, it just goes to show how hard work and compassion (without agenda) can really make a difference: to both the dogs and in inspiring others.

There is so much greenery around… the dogs have lots of space to run. Imagine the difference between here and the bustling streets of KL for a dog. We can make so much difference in the lives of so many. Karin is a good example.
There’s a beautiful lake on their 7 acres…
