Three Kinds of Laziness

Apr 21, 2011 | Views: 2,797

The Buddha described three kinds of laziness. First there is the kind of laziness we all know: we don’t want to do anything, and we’d rather stay in bed half an hour later than get up and meditate. Second, there is the laziness of feeling ourselves unworthy, the laziness of thinking, “I can’t do this. Other people can meditate, other people can be mindful, other people can be kind and generous in difficult situations, but I can’t, because I’m too stupid.” Or, alternatively, “I’m always an angry person;” “I’ve never been able to do anything in my life;” “I’ve always failed, and I’m bound to fail.” This is laziness.

The third kind of laziness is being busy with worldly things. We can always fill up the vacuum of our time by keeping ever so busy. Being occupied may even make us feel virtuous. But usually it’s just a way of escape. When I came out of the cave, some people said, “Don’t you think that solitude was an escape?” And I said, “An escape from what?” There I was—no radio, no newspapers, no one to talk to. Where was I going to escape to? When things came up, I couldn’t even telephone a friend. I was face-to-face with who I was and with who I was not. There was no escape.

Our ordinary lives are so busy, our days are so full, but we never have any space even to sit for a minute and just be. That’s escape. One of my aunts always kept the radio on, or the television. She didn’t like silence. Silence worried her. Background noise rang out at all times. And we’re all like that. We’re afraid of silence—outer silence, inner silence. When there’s no noise going on outside we talk to ourselves—opinions and ideas and judgments and rehashes of what happened yesterday or during our childhood; what he said to me; what I said to him. Our fantasies, our daydreams, our hopes, our worries, our fears. There is no silence. Our noisy outer world is but a reflection of the noise inside: our incessant need to be occupied, to be doing something.

Recently I was talking with a very nice Australian monk who was once occupied with doing so many wonderful Dharma activities that he became a workaholic. He would be up until two or three in the morning. Eventually he collapsed totally. His whole system fell apart and now he can’t do anything. He mind is also slightly impaired in that he doesn’t have very good concentration.

His problem was that his identity was connected with doing. As his work was for the Dharma it looked very virtuous. It looked like he was doing really good things. He was benefiting many people and carrying out the instructions of his teacher, but now that he can’t do anything, who is he? And so he is going through a tremendous crisis because he always identified himself with what he did and with being able to succeed. Now he is not able to do anything and is dependent on others. So I said to him, “But this is a wonderful opportunity. Now, you don’t have to do anything, you can just be.” He said he was trying to come to that, but he found it threatening not to do anything, to just sit there and be with who he is, not what he does.

This is the point—we fill our lives with activities. Many of them are really very good activities but if we are not careful, they can just be an escape. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t do good and necessary things, but there has to be breathing in as well as breathing out. We need to have both the active and the contemplative. We need time to just be with ourselves, and to become genuinely centered, when the mind can just be quiet.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikṣuṇī in the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. She is an author, teacher and founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India. Reading this interesting post with the thought of our daily life, how laziness will bring us downhill. It is possible to overcome laziness by setting achievable goals and developing a strong work ethic. Lazy ambition is not an uncommon occurrence . Through not been lazy, it takes sweat, determination and hard work one can be successful. Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, by taking the initiative doing things that matters in life such as learning dharma and practicing dharma is the best option. Letting go all unnecessary secular activities and do more to benefit others will be a better choice. Do what we can, with what we have, where we are and not excuses not to do. Accept whatever comes along, accept reality instead running away from it been lazy.
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings of Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo.

This is a short but very good article. I always thought that laziness would be either we are lazy to do things, with less motivation in life; and always cover ourlaziness to jump out from our comfort zone with many many excuses. The third type of laziness mentioned by Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is the one we tend to overlook, but it’s profound and thought-provoking.

This reminds me of my Guru H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, he used to advice his students keep ourselves away from busy life or don’t make ourselves busy with too much secular activities like going to karaoke, yam cha (having tea party) with friends a lot etc. Not to say we are banned to do all these, it’s more of not letting ourselved being obstructed too much by all these secular activities. Actually just as Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo has said, these activities are escapism, we are escaping and deceiving ourselves from the facts we are suppose to face and deal with in life. (The example of the man who fell apart reminds me that we always pretend to be putting in effort and doing many things or something , but are we really focus on the things we are doing or are we really put in real effort? We thought that when we are able to deceive others and we are going to be able to deceive ourselves and karma as well. But we know that we are not able to) Can we escape forever? We have to face it and handle it anyhow anyway, deal it when you are physically and mentally more fit, with the help of dharma, your Guru and people around you would be a better choice I guess.

As I’m reading thru this article, I found the third laziness is quite interesting. It trigger my thought that why some people always keeping themselves occupied with unnecessary. In my opinion, this people are afraid to face the fear, worries, expectation that might not be happen due to rehashing of their views which is very self-harming until uncontrollable. Mind medication has never been easy and best treatment for the cure is meditation and prayers.

  4. Lin Mun on Sep 2, 2018 at 9:58 pm

This is so true and I have all 3 types of laziness. It is a great reminder to not give up and find excuses when we face difficulties but to have courage to accept and find solutions. It is always easy to escape but we have to learn it somehow. So it is better to learn it earlier than later. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.

This is a very nice and profound article on three kinds of lazinesss. I find this very true and we all have all kinds of funny lame excuses not to do something eventhough we can. Different kind of people has different kinds of laziness. And it’s all excuses. It’s only in the mind. Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for this very nice sharing. ????

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. These 3 types of laziness is happening in our daily lives with the people around us. How we can eradicate these 3 types of laziness is by identifying it and find ways to change it. We also need to make effort to change it so that it will not become a habit.

    Dear Rinpoche,

This was an interesting article. I can relate to these three laziness, and have done all three simultaneously throughout my life. And now I know that we need to find balance, but how do we know when that balance is struck? How do we know when we are doing just good enough? I always have the constant fear that I’m not doing enough, and so does my sister, and I can really see and hear a little the arguments within my mind. How do I know when I’m being lazy? Or when I need to relax?

    Thank you. _/|\_

    Your student,
    Keng Hwa

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo has always inspired me and from this article with excerpts from her book, make me realise that the 3 types of laziness described are true and I am definitely guilty of them.

However, at the same time, from my understanding of this article it is also not perfect to be constantly busy in action but the way to go about being effective in life is that we need to be both active and contemplative.

Deep and profound teaching and only experience with practise will give us understanding.

  9. CindyH on Jun 11, 2016 at 6:42 pm

The first type of laziness fits into the typical of definition of laziness but prior to reading this article, I honestly would not have associated the second and third types with laziness. Having pondered on it, since all three detract one from practising Dharma to reach one’s full potential and also provide convenient “justification” to stay in comfort zones, I now see the other two facet of laziness which wasn’t obvious to me from before. In possession of all 3 laziness which I have to deal with, I find the least difficult to tackle as the first but the other two (laziness of feeling ourselves unworthy and laziness of being busy with worldly things) require much more effort on my part considering the subtleness of its presence in my life. Having recently been put in a situation which made me realise that my constant hectic schedule although drawing in good money and also filled with pro-bono cases and various volunteering activities, was nothing short of another form of escape. The days are kept full so there is no need to really deal with the real issues inside myself. The message “our noisy outer world is but a reflection of the noise inside: our incessant need to be occupied, to be doing something” really came across loud and clear. In fact, I could even relate to what the Australian monk meant when he said “he was trying to come to that, but he found it threatening not to do anything, to just sit there and be with who he is, not what he does”. This also made me realise that I have neglected an important aspect of self-reflection and inner contemplation. Whilst it is definitely still a struggle for me, but it is just logical to take the time to just be with ourselves, and to become genuinely centered, when the mind can just be quiet

  10. Jacinta Goh on Nov 7, 2014 at 8:25 pm

Although the first type of laziness is difficult to get rid off but I am certain it can be done, judging by the monks who have to discipline themselves in their daily life such as geting up early and sleeping late. Besides that, most of the successful persons are generally ‘hardworking’ too, and why can’t we do it for spirituality?Time is short anyway. Perhaps due to Long period of negative habituation and hence it might take time to overcome it.

For the second laziness, i.e negative thinking that we can’t achieve anything is most destructive for us. Through this thinking, we might abandon the goal of benefitting oneself and others. Perhaps replacing it with a more positive thinking will do the trick. Constantly and painstakingly checking our neuroses from time to time, impermanence and the death meditation might be helpful.

The third one is rather tricky and this article helps to shed some lights as I was comtemplating the true meaning in the advice given by Lama Atisha, who also said that some activities look ‘meritorious ‘ but in fact it is not beneficial. In my own opinion, all these three laziness is the cause for our action and inaction. Eg, we might feel like doing something beneficial like study Dharma but due to laziness, we might just ended up watching TV. I very much agreed with Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo’s statement that we need to have space on our own, a quiet one where we can contemplate, meditate and have some free time to do others things. This is the time where we can be honest with oneself, be it positive or negative.

  11. Sheryl KH (JB) on Jul 29, 2012 at 6:27 pm

What a different way of giving meanings to the word that we see as so simple – laziness. According to Buddhas, laziness is about 1. NOT WANTING TO DO ANYTHING, 2. BELIEVING THAT WE CANNOT DO/CHANGE SOMETHING/SOME PARTS OF OURSELVES, and 3. TO KNOW WHO WE ARE AS A PERSON, RATHER THAN TO IDENTIFY OURSELVES AS WHAT WE DO.

I think these three types of laziness are dangerous. For me, personally, I feel that the last one is the scariest and it seems that this is the problem that many people in this modern society are facing now, realising it or not.

We always occupy our lives with something, at the end of the day, we are left with not much time for ourselves. It would be scary when we identify ourselves with the occupation that we belong to, simply because things can change very easily, nothing is permanent and things can be taken away so easily. When this happens, the person loses the identity that he/she has long associated herself with.

Worst, as Rinpoche has shared here, even if the person has been busy with Dharma work and when this is taken away, the person may also feel a lost of identity.

Thank you Rinpoche for your teaching on the importance of giving ourselves time for comtemplation. It can be so easily to be regarded as negligible and luxurious, but yet it can be something so important as we CERTAINLY need a vacuum time for ourselves, from time to time. Quiet time may be scary at times, but this can also be the time when we can see things more clearly and to know better what we should do.

  12. Wan Wai Meng on Dec 3, 2011 at 11:37 pm

Such a beautiful sharing about the 3 laziness, I have all three of them not that I am proud of it but I do recognize from this article I have them. The third type of laziness is something a little harder for most people to spot if they have not been pointed to it. As most people will just think they are keeping busy. I recall someone sharing with me about the the ‘Doing Mind’. We just want to keep our lives busy with activities so we do not need to reflect or check where we are. We are constantly distracted.

A distracted mind is good for many companies who have something to sell you, but it is no good for someone on the spiritual journey.

  13. molly wiseman on Jun 30, 2011 at 8:37 pm

Laziness is a huge obstacle to practicing dharma. It feels like like an elephant print on my mindstream… like an addiction… so hard to stop and truly remember the preciousness of this life. How to put a bomb under my laziness???

  14. Miss S on Apr 26, 2011 at 2:38 pm

Could the reasons why we are lazy caused by our fear to fail? Fear to make changes as we are too comfortable? Or could it be we are in denial stage where our mindset is not strong enough to make this change? I personally thank Tsem Tulku Rinpoche for giving the strengths to make this change…one step at a time….his sharing of thoughts did inspired me to make the first move in making the change. I guess, we are just human, who need to be told that things will be alright after all….and Rinpoche did that for us to move to the next step. Happy learning as we need to take the first step…

  15. Sarah on Apr 23, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Gosh… i have all 3 laziness in me!

This reminds me of an incident i recently faced last week… I was really unhappy and the minute i reached home i wanted to take off to gompa… it was then that it hit me, i’m going there with a ‘wrong’ motivation, which is to escape.

Unfortunately, lacking the wisdom to turn things around, and at the same time, didn’t want to go over with such an attitude… I ended up staying at home that day… I’ve been thinking about it and up till today, i don’t know if my reaction was right or wrong LOL!

  16. May Ong on Apr 23, 2011 at 8:45 am

I see these 3 kinds of laziness as avoidance and self-denial of the truth and escape. When we are forced to look at inner feeling of ourself, we see ugly behaviors, attitudes and mind and we don’t like it. Not many people have the guts to look inside really and face the ugly truths of themself. We find ways to “be distracted” including myself. BUt if I get to sit down ato think and put in effort to achieve a certain result, I find that not hard to do if we put ur mind into it. This is a very good reminder lesson, Rinpoche. Thank you for sharing.

  17. David Lai on Apr 22, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Thank you rinpoche for such a powerful teaching. Like many others, I lived my life thinking I am doing something but I am merely distracting myself with my wants, needs, likes and dislikes. It is not easy to come to terms with the fact that the way I work, play and interact with people have been for mostly self-interest and self-gain.

Even the very little Dharma I do, it has been on the basis of limits and barriers. Such a powerful teaching really unravels my self-deception that I am doing something important when actually, I am buying time so I don’t have to face myself – that I am lazy to think of others or think on a broader scale. This is a humbling teaching and reminder.

  18. Lim Han Nee on Apr 22, 2011 at 3:42 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for this post as it gives us a lot of room for contemplation and self-reflection.

I can identify with the second kind of laziness too, as I always try to avoid work which requires some dexterity of fingers as I am all thumbs.

However, I’d like to focus on the third type of laziness. I’ve always thought that if I keep myself occupied one way or the other, then I wouldn’t indulge in my favorite pastime of worrying about this or that. But what Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo says about my type of ‘busy-ness’ being a form of escape from myself is true. I need to give myself space to find the center of calm and quiet that abides inside me.

  19. Terri on Apr 22, 2011 at 1:39 pm

O i kind of think too much you know and take everything to heart.
Brings back bad memories of when I was trying to practice and ppl told me I was lazy to sit and face the wall 21 hours a day. But the mind is very interesting u know old man. And I live alone and I leave all the tv and the lights on, but I don’t think it’s because I’m scared of silence so much as i am scared of the registered sex offender next door… but maybe i am a little bit scared of idleness.

The story of Australian monk is a very good reminder.I will remember that.

It true that we will using “busy” as excuse which in actual fact our laziness. Most of time after working, i would rather spent my time on lying on sofa , watching TV rather than read Dharma book..the topic let me think of we should have time to let our mind calm and quiet and really think what should i do for this moment…

  22. benji on Apr 22, 2011 at 8:56 am

Very true! Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo’s precious advice is so awakening – there are so many seemingly harmless little actions we tend to engage in, that actually are escape routes! And, gosh! Even seemingly ‘good acts’ can be another facade! I am reminded of some friends who often complain that their Dharma centre is so rotten that they just can’t stay on anymore – so they decide to just ‘practice at home’ or join another ‘better’ centre. I guess the bottomline is simply to be really HONEST with ourselves, look right at our INTENTIONS. It is simply too tiring and a great waste of time to plan escape routes – better to face the ghosts/’hantu-hantu’ and clear them off. Thank you Rinpochela, for this wonderful sharing!

  23. Klára Moráková on Apr 22, 2011 at 1:54 am

It is true, that activities is sometimes escape!Thank you, beautifully written!

  24. sandy.clarke83@gmail.com on Apr 22, 2011 at 1:10 am

When you look at lazy people, they aren’t actually “lazy” at all – they’re usually doing something. To do NOTHING, in the true sense of the word, is actually quite difficult, according to my own experience, anyway.

It’s amazing just how much people don’t know themselves. Even in Dharma, people are always reading, writing, studying, attending talks, pujas, making offerings…not that these things are bad, but there is always something going on – to sit and watch the breath or just be in the moment for a time…I wonder why it’s so difficult.

The Ven. Ajahn Chah, in his teachings, has a recurring theme along the lines of, “Put down the books and read your own heart. You won’t find yourself in a book, nor can anyone show you the content of your heart. Be still. Watch the breath and know yourself.”

When you think about it, it’s actually quite sad to know that some people don’t know themselves. I wonder what would happen if 10 people, say, were given a pen and some paper and asked to write down what their values are, what really matters to them – what they believe in. Would they know where to start? Perhaps if people slowed down a little sometimes and got to know themselves, they’d come to know what drives them on and what really inspires them and maybe, from that, they would be able to choose a path – whatever path – that suits them and bring themselves joy and happiness to their lives.

As John Lennon said, life is what happens while you’re making other plans…

    Kind regards,
    Sandy

  25. james Long on Apr 21, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Thank You Rinpoche for sharing this post. As Rinpoche said before, we always find reasons not to do any dharma practice, simply said we are too busy or we are stupid, in fact it is our laziness or self-cherishing mind stops us from doing more.

Also, we always look busy, doing something, but are we really believe in what we are doing i.e. Dharma work, prayer, chanting or it is another escape? The point i got from here is to reflect on and aware of our motivation of doing dharma as Rinpoche always said to us.

This reminds me one of the Rinpoche’s youtube teaching :
“How we Meditate ???!!! Another FUNNY Dharma talk!”

  26. Sean Wang on Apr 21, 2011 at 9:08 pm

I noticed I have these kinds of laziness. It just comes to show that I am too self indulgent. Thus, I should change. I must change from being the type of laziness that everyone knows about such as lying about and doing nothing to being hardworking but putting more effort into anything I do. I should also not waste time anymore. I should be pushing myself to do more. When asked to do one, do two.

The second thing I need to change is my attitude because sometimes I would rely on others to do what I am supposed to do. I should think more positively, I should think that I can do it as I would usually think to myself, “I can’t do this. It is too hard. I think others can do it better than me.” I should think the opposite, “I can do it. It is fine. I think I can do it just as others can.”

I am not really sure how I am connected to the third one as I do not just make myself busy with worldly things unless TV and computers would count. Because I thought that watching TV and playing computer games would be considered the first kind. Not wanting to do anything useful. So, I am not sure if it counts.

A Chinese ghost marriage is a ceremony that unites a deceased person with a living or deceased person. The family of the deceased usually arranges the marriage. Despite its long history and unique practices, the original purposes of ghost marriages remain largely unknown. The ghost is a classical image in Chinese culture, have a history stretching back 3,000 years. This tradition dates back to the first Chinese dynasty, making it at least 2200 years old, while others even note that it’s roughly 3000 years old! Despite reports of it still being practiced in remote Chinese villages in China,Taiwan and certain Asian countries . Ghost marriages are acceptable and symbolic in especially in Taiwanese culture, with many social elements related to them. Interestingly enough Li Kim and team did a great research ,spoke to Professor Lin Mao-Hsien, a Taiwanese folklore scholar on these interesting tradition. Reading this article with a better understanding of the ghost marriages. The story of the man by the name Wu Wen-Da, who had been dreaming about a dead woman named Zheng Su Mei truly interesting.

Interesting account of the investigation of Supiyati an Indonesian woman’s body filled with needles, nails, and wires.
After many efforts to find a cure in their hometown never found any success, Dark Magic is an incredibly powerful form of witchcraft that draws on malevolent powers.Black magic is a belief system that is not supported by scientific evidence. However, psychologists and neuroscientists have studied magic to understand how it affects people’s perceptions and beliefs. Regardless of the path forward, the study and understanding of black magic will undoubtedly remain a subject of enduring fascination and scholarly inquiry.

The basis of the Buddha’s teaching is to be found in the Four Noble Truths. The Buddha teachings describe the nature of suffering and the path to its end. Suffering is unavoidable and affects everyone. Craving and ignorance lead to suffering. Whatever we do have consequences, so living in a way that minimizes harm can prevent future pain. Good to cultivate good qualities and abandoning non-virtuous thoughts and actions. Abandoning dishonest livelihood and living a life of right livelihood. Being kind and compassionate towards oneself and others. The Fourth Noble Truth is the truth of the Path that leads to the cessation of suffering.

Dorje Shugden is a protector in Tibetan Buddhism, originally a minor protector in the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. Later adopted by the Gelug school. Has been worshipped throughout history by several schools of Tibetan Buddhism. As a wrathful manifestation of Manjushri, the Wisdom Buddha, who grants wisdom, clarity, and concentration. A protector who fulfils wishes and prayers, brings material resources, healing, and protects from harm to those who sincerely rely on. Also helps us to clear obstacles, and attracts opportunities for success, growth and in many ways. Many practitioners have benefited ultimately for helping them stay on the spiritual path. Rely on Dorje Shugden consistently over times, we will see his graceful yet powerful assistance in our lives. The prayers is indeed very powerful and have me change my life.
Thank you Rinpoche for this simplified daily prayer. Easy and convenient for everyone.

The art and science of asking questions is the source of all knowledge. Part of being successful is about asking questions and listening to the answers. Asking questions is the first way to begin change. Knowledge shared is knowledge squared. A great way to learn by reading and asking various enlightened aspects of Tsongkapa. I am still learning even I have revisit this blog on and off. Still trying to remember names of great lamas.
Thank you Rinpoche for this post.

Thangka serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities and bodhisattvas. Thangkas have also traditionally been used as a teaching tool. Tsem Rinpoche received a precious and beautiful gift of Vajrayogini from Ms. Wahyu. She have taken months and did researched and painted it beautifully. Looking at it is a blessing.

Born in 1905 in the village of Nangsang in the Kham province of eastern Tibet HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was a master of philosophical debate. He was a powerful Tantric practitioner, well known throughout the three great Gelug monasteries of central Tibet. Wow in an early stage of his childhood he performed various magical miracles such as able to invoke a female naga goddess in a nearby lake. A master of sutra and tantra, H H Kyabje Zong Rinpoche had performed countless holy deeds and gave thousands of Dharma teachings during his lifetime. A biography of a great Master who possessed an extraordinary memory and was renowned for healing activities. Zong Rinpoche was the Guru of many great masters. Interesting read of all the miraculous stories of Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing of a great Master

All thanks to our Guru that we are given a chance to get connected to the Sublime Queen, Vajra Yogini and collect merits along the way. The idea of making real gold-paint offerings to Vajra Yogini in KFR is indeed awesome for everyone. In Buddhism, symbolic offerings are made to the Triple Gem, giving rise to contemplative gratitude and inspiration. Making offerings to the Buddhas are acts of generosity and therefore highly meritorious.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands.

ndia is a land of diverse cultures, traditions, and spiritual practices. They allow religious freedom among its most enigmatic and intriguing spiritual sects are the Aghoris, a group of ascetics who are often surrounded by mystery, fear, and fascination. But the Tibetan leadership creates religious differences leading to discrimination, violence, hatred and bias against Shugden practitioners. Everyone has their rights to choose and practice whatever they want. The ban of Dorje Shugden is therefore unnecessary and illogical . In recent years religious freedom has improves.
Interesting blog of a sect of ascetic sadhus who practice a unique and extreme form of Hinduism. They are the only surviving sect of the Kapalika tradition, a Tantric form of Shaivism originated in Medieval India. The Aghoris are a fascinating and mysterious group of Hindu ascetics, who have a distinct and radical approach to spirituality. They are known for their bizarre and unconventional rituals. They live in cremation grounds, smearing ashes on their bodies, using human skulls as utensils, and eating flesh from human corpses. Aghoris are Hindu devotees of Shiva the god of destruction and transformation, and they seek to attain liberation from the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. They see themselves as healers, both of the body and the soul. Many believe that their intense penance and devotion give them extraordinary powers. They engage in practices that challenge conventional ideas of purity, such as meditating in cremation grounds, consuming what others deem inedible, and embracing what society often shuns.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting sharing.

Saying thank you and showing our gratitude with a handwritten message can make all the difference in our life.At times, when our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has reason to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. None of us who achieves success without the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge is this help with gratitude. Let us rise up and be thankful. Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul. Its gratitude that helps us to grow and expand . And also gratitude brings joy and laughter into our life and into the lives of all those around us. Spiritually it unlocks the fullness of life and turning what we have into enough in life.

Wangze is one of Dorje Shugden’s emanations and is the most powerful deity to propitiate in order to assist us when we are facing difficult situations with difficult people and positive influence on others. Wangze’s practice can cultivate energies of power, influence, and the ability to positively influence others. Practising this practice with knowledge and understanding we may gain a firm footing on the spiritual path bringing benefit to their lives.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
