Growing up with Rinpoche: Keeping an eye on the future
Having had the fortune of meeting Rinpoche when she was just 11 years old, the ‘Growing up with Rinpoche’ series captures Pastor Jean Ai’s growth under Rinpoche’s guidance. In this series, she recounts some of Rinpoche’s myriad Dharma activities to benefit sentient beings.
After someone updated about a nearby glamping resort, a few weeks ago Rinpoche and a group of students bundled into a convoy of cars and made their way to check it out.
But it’s not for what you think.
We are looking at expanding Kechara Forest Retreat, so that we can provide better facilities and services to the public. Instead of throwing it to the architect or designer however, we have all been researching ideas for how to construct and design the new buildings. What materials do we want to use? How are we going to use the buildings? What plans do we have in the future and if things change, how can the buildings be adapted for this?
Guided by Rinpoche, Kecharians are learning firsthand that to live in a conscious community means actively participating in the direction of and decisions for the community.

Rinpoche always think of how to improve Kechara Forest Retreat in so many areas. This trip Rinpoche would like us to see and study this resort, in terms of material used if it’s suitable for KFR, landscaping and how we feel with the surrounding environment. Rinpoche is constantly making KFR a better place to live, a better place to learn the dharma, a better place carries out our spiritual practice, a better place for people to visit and benefited from their visit. So much time, effort, sweat, resources and fund have been put in KFR and Rinpoche wants KFR to continue to be a conducive place for spiritual learning and practice for generation after generation.

An interesting sharing with us of a part of the activity that leads to the plans for the future expansion of Kechara Forest Retreat. Rinpoche is very hands-on in the planning and the construction of all parts of Kechara Forest Retreat, from the most menial to the overall layout. Now we know how Rinpoche and his students actually go out to try out the actual complete structures, to get the feel of the materials, the conditions and the ambience provided. Thank you for the sharing, Pastor Jean Ai.

Pastor Jean Ai,
As far as Dharma is concerned I would say, it’s a privilege growing up, working and practicing under a great Lama such as Rinpoche.
Thank you Pastor for your dedication, loyalty and effort for all these years and years to come.
