Question asked by Christine Cuthbert
How attached should one be to a particular lineage?
I understand the importance in bigger scheme of things, but it seems that in some cases it can overshadow the teachings of the Buddha. To me when this occurs it ends up feeling more like a religion with all it's bias and restrictions. The turth is the truth is truth no matter the form it takes.
Thanks in advance
Hi Christine,
We don’t attach to a lineage. We learn as much as we can from its teachings , methods and tradition.Any qualified unbroken lineage will give us the knowledge that leads us to the truth.
If we decide to stay with one lineage, it is only to gain mastery of the teachings .For majority of us, we don’t have much time to jump from one to another. Besides, while truth is truth as you had said, the methods of practice can differ. Knowing too many from different schools/lineages can lead to confusion and counter productive.
