Question asked by tenzin wang
i was reading a book from a japanese buddhist monk and he said that buddhist mantras are like double edge swords on one hand they are very good for spirtual practice but on the other they can be used to harm people or curse them . he also said when mantras r chanted with bad intentions by a practiced individual they can cause harm to the victum but if followed that when one grave is made another is made for the witch in hell and that is why one must do mantras with great compassion
is this true … beacause according to rinpoche mantras r the sound form of the buddhas and bodhisattvas was well as three eons of ther practice so my opinion is how can the buddhas do harm to any beings
please tell me if this is true or if my opinion is correct
Dear Tenzin Wang,
All Buddhist mantras are compassion driven and hence from their side can never cause harm. However, if chanted with evil motives, the chanter opens up and get back his own bad karma. If the listener is affected, it is his own weak superstitious mind and lack of faith in the protective powers of the 3 jewels and Buddhist mantras. It is not the mantra.
