Question asked by Jay
Dear pastors,
I am currently in my early 30s and have been single for the past 2 years (i.e. no spouse nor girlfriends). During this time, my unmet sexual desires have become stronger and I have contemplated about finding sexual workers to satisfy them. My questions are as follows:
1) Is the act of sex with a prostitute considered as a sexual misconduct (even if one is single, as in my case)? If yes, why is this so?
2) Secondly, if it is not advisable for me to do so, what can I do in the mean time and long-term wise to help me cope/control my sexual urges?
Thank you.
Dear Jay
What keeps every being in samsara is due to our attachment, hatred/anger and ignorance. We cannot rid off attachements over night but focus on increasing more virtuous thoughts through studying and contemplating on buddha’s teachings, engage and use our energy towards beneficial works instead of allowing our attachments to get in the way of achieving our goals.
If we only live our lives enslaved and driven by sexual urges then what difference are we from animals. The human form is precious because of its potential for us to practice the dharma for ultimate and lasting happiness. Why live a life each day in the pursue to satisfy sexual urges?
Medical help may be an option if sexual urges are uncontrollable.
