Question asked by ronron
Dear Pastors,
Thank you for answering my earlier questions.
I would now like to ask you two questions pertaining to prayers:-
1) What is the correct way to pray for someone, like my family members? Do I just mention their names or is there a way to send my prayers to them?
2) How do I pray for my deceased family prayers? Is there a special prayer to say to send them the merits of the prayer? Also, the burning of incense papers and paper money for the deceased, will they actually receive them in the other world. Is this a correct Buddhist way to pray for the deceased?
Thank you so much again
Prayers can be done by mentioning their names, by thoughts, or visualization during pujas. Also, due to karma, we have strong connections with certain people in this lifetime and they can be affected by our virtuous works or negativities just the same.
We can do various prayers and virtuous deeds for anyone, alive or deceased. Prayers that we usually do are Medicine Buddha, Setrap, Lama Chopa. Sponsoring of dharma text, building of stupas and temples, animal liberation, making offerings to monks and nuns are all wonderful. Most importantly is our own practice and becoming a better and more beneficial person can be dedicated to our loved ones.
