Tea Offering to Vajrayogini (For the 1st Time!)
(By Tsem Rinpoche)
The Tea offering for Vajra Yogini is an excellent way to:
- Create affinity with her and her practice.
- To generate merits to accomplish the Generation stages and Completion stages of her practice.
- To accomplish her sacred 11 yogas after initiation.
- To create the causes to receive her practice in complete.
- To be protected by Vajra Yogini in this life and to meet up with her practice in future lives.
- Expedite our entrance into her Kechara Buddha field after our passing.
- To create the causes to bring these sacred teachings to those who are spiritually ripe.
- Create merits for the long life of our teachers, parents, loved ones and ourselves. And to generate merits for those who have passed to be blessed by her to take fortunate rebirths.
- To be successful in doing our retreats on Vajra Yogini.
- To gain attainments.
- To request Lady Vajra Yogini to bless the environment, people, deities, supernatural seen/unseen beings, land, animal and ecology of the area we reside in. Wonderful to do in a new office/house/land.
- If we are receiving harm/inauspicious signs from formless beings, to request Vajra Yogini to protect us and bless them to stop any disturbance.
- For the success of our Dharma work, Dharma ideas and Dharma institution.
- To bless the winds, drops, channels, chakras within our own bodies in order to prepare the way for higher attainments.
- Invoke the blessings of the Yoginis in the 24 sacred sites that are guarding the holy places of Vajra Yogini on this earth and within our bodies.
- To always meet with auspicious signs, and omens and results of our practice. To have firm devotion to our teacher, meditations and the proper human ethics. To always find it easy to engage in virtues. May the land, govt and people always be at peace/harmony.
Items necessary:
If you are empowered into Highest Yoga tantra, then you use the inner offering to consecrate the Drink before doing offering to Vajra Yogini. If you are not, then OM AH HUM three times should suffice for now to consecrate this drink. This Tea offering to Vajra Yogini is permissible for both those initiated into her practice as well as those who are not.
You may use any type of tea, herbal, black, green teas, etc. Or you may use soft drinks, juices, etc as the substance for her ‘tea’ offering. The Tea Offering to her is a name for this practice and not necessarily that you HAVE to use actual tea in the offering.
How to start:
- Recite Refuge
- Four Immeasurables
- 8 Verses of Thought Transformation
- The tea liturgy below to Vajra Yogini
- With each line you recite “I offer” you may pour the tea/liquid at the last line of “I offer”, then you fill it to the brim or finish pouring. Or just fill the tea in the container to the brim from the beginning and recite the liturgy. Either way is acceptable.
- After finishing, a simple dedication to the best of your knowledge is fine. If you are initiated into Vajra Yogini’s tantra, then you can recite the verse for ascending into Kechara Buddha field 3x and then dedication. Then you are done for the day.
- You may do this sacred practice that is short and easy anywhere, anytime and any location.
I have placed this TEA OFFERING TO VAJRA YOGINI here for those who have great merit to be interested in Sacred Vajra Yogini and wish to do her practice yet have not received her initiation yet. I have received innumerable requests asking how to do prayers to her. Well here it is.
This is your chance to do a prayer to her daily to create the affinity. Good luck and feel happy you have this rare chance to make yourself much more connected to such a rare practice yet so powerful. My 1st guru Kensur Lobsang Tharchin Rinpoche in New Jersey always refer to her as the Diamond Queen. I dedicate this post to his new incarnation that has taken rebirth, recognized and enthroned. May his current incarnation due to our lessening of the “I” become as supremely beneficial as his previous incarnation. Whether he can manifest or not will depend on his students’ samaya and practice. May I have the fortune to serve this great master again. I had the great fortune to meet him in 1972 when I arrived in New Jersey. He resided in Rashi Gempil Ling Buddhist Monastery which was 10 mins by bicyle ride away.
I had the great fortune to listen to his teachings, receive refuge from him, and receive my first initiations, refuge-bodhisattva-tantric vows from this eminent Master. It was from him I heard the sacred name of Pabongka Rinpoche for the first time as he was a direct disciple of Pabongka Rinpoche. It was from Kensur Lobsang Tharchin Rinpoche (of Sera Mey) I heard of the Diamond Queen’s name for the first time. It was at Rashi Gempil Ling my ignorant youthful eyes set themselves on an image of Vajra Yogini for the first time and it literally blew me away.
When I saw Vajra Yogini for the first time, I thought she was the most powerful, sacred and secret Buddha in the Universe. I was determined to get her photo. I did and it was a xeroxed color photo of her from Rashi Gempil Ling. I framed it and stared at her photo for weeks and months in my room. I was amazed I can even have the fortune to see her sacred photo. Kensur Lobsang Tharchin kept all images of her covered and hidden and wouldn’t allow non-initiates to gaze upon her. I was sneaky and use to lift the khata covering her image and stare at her in open mouth amazement.
I fell in love with her back then and this ‘love’ affair with this supreme Buddha is just as strong now. I wish all my friends to be connected to her. I was and still amazed at the age of 7 I was able to meet such a renowned master and a student of Pabongka Rinpoche ten minutes away from where I lived in Howell, New Jersey. I knew this master was fully qualified and fully attained. I never believed otherwise. I never showed even one minute of unpleasant face or speech to this great master. I was deathly afraid of him because in my childish mind at that time, I didn’t think I was good enough to be even in his presence not realizing his all embracing nature at that time as I was seven years old. I miss this great master.
I will never forget the teachings/empowerments he has bestowed on me and I will keep up my practice commitments I swore to this great master over 30 years ago. I have kept up my practice and will continue until my death. I will honor his memory with my integrity of practice. I will introduce many to Vajra Yogini’s practice because if that is what he chose for beings of this degenerate age to practice, then there is no fault in his decision as he was a master of the vast oceans of sutra and tantra. I will carry on what he started with all of us 30 years ago in New Jersey. I remember fondly those beautiful days in the gompa of Rashi Gempil Ling in New Jersey receiving dharma teachings from this great master along with my other dharma brothers and sisters. I treasured it then and I treasure it now. How I miss my great master and those dharma sisters/brothers. I know and believe Kensur Lobsang Tharchin is one and indivisible with the Diamond Lady herself. I bow my head to Kensur Lobsang Tharchin’s sacred feet forever. I will forgive, forget transgression from others and will generate compassion towards others as that is what Rinpoche taught us and I will honor it. I love you my most dearest Kensur Lobsang Tharchin Rinpoche.

Thank you, I feel so blessed. It’s truly a divine individual who will try t give the confused and scared hope. Thank you,, may Tara ma , my blessed ma Kali, and all her divinity bless you.
Vajrayogini is known as the Vajra Queen because she is the highest of all the female enlightened deities. Her practice is extremely powerful and it is just what we need in these degenerate times. Vajrayogini practice has many uncommon qualities that surpass even Heruka practice. I am glad to come across this article, we can offer tea to create good cause to get closer to Vajrayogini. That’s wonderful…..very beneficial indeed. The Tea offering for Vajra Yogini is an excellent way to be protected by Vajrayogini in this life and to meet up with her practice in future lives. By contemplating these incredible benefits of Vajrayogini practice, we can generate a strong faithful wish to rely upon her in this and all our future lives.
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings and explanation of tea offering to Vajra Yogini.
Thank you for this beautiful information Rinponche 🙏🏽
I want to humbly ask you, do we drink the tea?
Or do we pour it down the sink, or do we give it to plants snd animals?
What do we do with it?
I feel the tea is blessed, why not drink it?
Thank you kindly 🙏🏽
May you be well, may you be at ease, my you be at peace.
May you live a long, sweet, prosperous life filled with joy, love, peace, enlightenment and equanimity.
Aho 🙏🏽
Xitlali
Hi Xitlali,
I believe we do not drink the tea, but we can give it to plants to bless and nourish it, or pour it down the sink. If we are giving it to plants, I’ve read that it’s best to use organic tea to limit pesticide use, especially if you are intending to consume the plant.
Hope that helps!
A sacred image of the rare form of Vajrayogini known as Ucheyma, the Buddha that shows us the path to eradicate the ego. For this and many other high-resolution images of the enlightened beings to download for free visit: https://bit.ly/2oxb4qU
Ucheyma (Severed Headed Vajrayogini) (Main figure)
(Top to bottom): H.H. the 7th Panchen Lama, Ucheyma (Severed Headed Vajrayogini), Vajra Varnani (green assistant), Vajra Vairocani (yellow assistant), Dorje Shugden and Citipati.
The central deity is known as Chinnamasta or Dorje Neljorma Ucheyma. Both Chinnamasta (Sanskrit) and Ucheyma (Tibetan) literally mean, ‘She Whose Head is Severed’. The meaning behind her form is to show practitioners that they need to completely remove the grasping and self-identification with the “I” or the ego. Generally, the identity of the self is strongly associated with our face more than any other part of our body. We usually recognise a person when we look at a person’s face. Hence, our self-identification or ego is strongly associated with our face. To show us that this self-identification needs to be overcome on the spiritual path to enlightenment, Vajrayogini uses her ritual chopper to decapitate herself. This is symbolic of her practice eradicating the ego.
The Severed Headed Vajrayogini, as she is also known, removes all afflictive mental constructs by removing the root cause – the identification of the self, the ego. We are either attached to or averse to people and circumstances because we have an ego to please, gratify and protect. But in the grander scheme of things, this self-identification with the ‘I’ is illusory and does not really exist. Therefore, Vajrayogini reveals this ultimate truth through the dramatic decapitation of her head and at the same time is still able to live and function. She is able to live due to her direct perception of emptiness and egolessness.
Contrary to what some people might think, the eradication of the self does not destroy individualism, our personality or make us into a mindless person. In fact, the eradication of the ego makes us become a vibrant and compassionate person, someone that has greater awareness of the suffering of others. In other words, we become much warmer, kinder, forgiving, tolerant, conscientious, generous, contemplative and we are become a joy to be with. The cutting of the ego or the ‘I’ brings us towards awakening our true self, the Buddha nature within.
The Severed Headed Vajrayogini has two dakini attendants. From the trunk of her neck, there are three severed blood vessels spurting three jets of blood that flow into the mouths of her own decapitated head that she carries in her left hand and into the mouths of her two attendants. Tsem Rinpoche explained that the three jets of blood represent that her practice purifies the three psychic poisons of ignorance, hatred and desire. In turn, this leads to the attainment of the three bodies of a Buddha – the emanation body, the enjoyment body and the truth body. In other words, the severance of the ego via her tantric path leads to the purification of all delusions and ultimately, the attainment of Buddhahood itself.
The 7th Panchen Lama, Palden Tenpai Nyima is featured floating above because of his compilation of sadhanas from the ancient Sadhanamala texts. This includes a particular sadhana or collection of prayers, visualisation and mantra focused on Ucheyma. Incidentally, Dorje Shugden in many of his previous lives was a lineage master of the Vajrayogini tantras as well. These previous lives include the likes of the Mahasiddha Naropa and Tsarchen Losel Gyatso. The Lord and Lady of the Charnel Ground, known as Citipati, are one of the main protectors of the Vajrayogini Tantra.
Last of all, the ascetic meditator engaging in his devotional practices towards Ucheyma in the cemetery represents the ideal environment for tantric practice because such environments invoke deep renunciation towards worldly affairs and attachments. All Buddhist traditions advocate meditating on the bones of the deceased because it reminds us of our mortality and hence, we develop revulsion towards the transient nature of worldly or ordinary existence.

Severed Headed Vajrayogini is surrounded by some of her other forms, including Naro Kacho, two forms of Maitri Kacho, Sukhasiddhi and Vajravarahi. These forms of Vajrayogini are more commonly practised compared to Severed Headed Vajrayogini and are prevalent in most Tibetan Buddhist lineages. Though they may look different, all forms are indivisible from her true nature and all her practices can lead practitioners to enlightenment. Naro Kacho arose from a vision beheld by the Mahasiddha Naropa, Maitri Kacho from a vision beheld by Maitripa, and Indra Kacho from a vision beheld by Indrabodhi. The Lord and Lady of the Charnel Ground, known as Citipati, are one of the main protectors of the Vajrayogini Tantra.
Last of all, Dorje Shugden is a protector with special affinity with Vajrayogini practitioners because he arose from an incarnation lineage that includes Naropa and Tsarchen Losel Gyatso who practised and proliferated her Tantra.

Vajrayogini (Main figure)
(Top to bottom): Naropa, Vajradharma, Hero Vajradharma, Naro Kacho, Maitri Kacho (Flying Vajrayogini), Dorje Shugden and Vajravarahi.
Vajrayogini is a female tantric Buddha and she has many forms that are derived from various lineages. She mainly embodies the fully enlightened female (shakti) aspect of a Buddha. She belongs to the Mother Tantra classification, which refers to her practice concentrating on the wisdom aspect of the path to Buddhahood. She is also the principal dakini, the compassionate female guides and nurturers of tantric meditation who lead practitioners to enlightenment. In the thangka, the main figure in the middle is Naro Kechari as she arose from the pure vision of the Mahasiddha Naropa.
In Anuttara (Highest) Yoga Tantra, principal dakinis normally appear in union with a male consort and this can be seen in the cases of deities such as Guhyasamaja, Hevajra, and Kalachakra. In the case of Vajrayogini, she is the principal female Buddha of the Chakrasamvara Tantra and therefore, she is normally in union with Heruka Chakrasamvara. Furthermore, Vajrayogini is also considered a Vajradakini, who are yidams or meditational deities in their own right. Their practices have evolved from the main practices of their consorts, simplifying the otherwise complicated original practice by reducing it to a single-deity meditation without sacrificing the main benefits and features of the original. Hence, Vajradakini practices such as Vajrayogini and Nairatmya are derived from the original Chakrasamvara Tantra and Hevajra Tantra respectively.
In essence, Vajrayogini is known as “Sarvabuddha-dakini” or the Dakini Who is the Essence of all Buddhas. Her mantra is known as the King of All Mantras as it has the most powerful ability to bless us with spiritual attainments even without any visualisation or meditation. There are 11 Yogas in the generation stage of her practice and a few which have the power of transforming ordinary actions like sleeping, waking and ordinary daily tasks into a collection of merits. Ultimately, her Tantra offers salvation for ordinary practitioners at death with her special promise of guiding practitioners towards Kechara, or the Paradise of the Dakinis, in which we can continue deep practices to become a Buddha without fear, obstacles and interruptions.
Within Vajrayogini practice, soliciting the blessings of the lama and the lineage master are of paramount importance in order for our practice to bear results. Hence, the lama is visualised as the red Vajradharma with arms crossed at the heart, holding the vajra and bell. The lineage masters are visualised as Hero Vajradharma, holding a damaru and skullcup while cradling a khatvanga. Aside from the main Naro Kechari form, Vajrayogini also appears in the form of Maitri Kechari, who is known as Flying Vajrayogini, and arose from the vision of Maitripa. Another common form is known as Indra Kechari, or Vajravarahi, who arose from the vision of Indrabodhi.
Last of all, Dorje Shugden is a Dharma protector with a special affinity with Vajrayogini practitioners. This is because he himself arose from an incarnation lineage that includes the likes of Naropa, the progenitor of Naro Kechari practice, and Tsarchen Losel Gyatso who had practised and proliferated her Tantra and is listed as one the lineage masters invoked upon every day by Vajrayogini practitioners.

The Dākiṇī with the Essence of all Buddhas, Vajrayoginī
Her practice includes methods to end the otherwise repetitive states of Bardo and rebirth, by transforming the process into a journey, which may lead to full enlightenment. In preparation for which, Vajrayoginī further offers the omnipresent ability to reconstruct the nature of the most, mundane everyday experiences, such that they may reveal higher destinations, via the spiritual paths she may choose to reveal. [1] Vajrayoginī being defined as, “The Dākiṇī who is the Essence of all Buddhas”, [2] is amplified by scholar Miranda Shaw when she implied that this deity is no less than, the supreme nature of the very Tantric pantheon. No male Buddha, including her divine consort, Heruka-Cakrasaṃvara, further advances her in metaphysical implications. [3]
Vajrayoginī’s sādhanā originates from India circa 10/12th C, [4] when summoned as Heruka-Cakrasaṃvara’s Yab-Yum consort [5], with later forms including Vajrayoginī as “Solitary Hero”, she may be visualized with the deep red complexion of a 16-year-old female, whose stance is nude amidst a blazing fire of pristine awareness and most exalted wisdom. Her head is adorned with a crown of five skulls and upon her forehead, the third eye of wisdom is set vertically (represented here by an auspicious jewel). She drapes a necklace of fifty dried human skulls and is depicted with her traditional vajra-handled knife in her right hand; with a blood filled kapala in her left, she drinks with upturned head while looking above, toward the pure realm of Khechara. This seemingly gruesome gesture is actually symbolic of her clear light in great joy, known as “mahasukha” (the great bliss), [6] [7] thus the blood she drinks may be offered to us all as if a fine wine.
Resting on the left shoulder is a Katvanga staff as she stands tall with her two feet, trampling the bodies of red Kalaratri and black Bhairava (with heads bending backward), representing the embodiment of illusion and ego-awareness. The composition, all of which rests above a sun disc and multicolored lotus pedestal, she is rendered here after a thankga of Naropa Tradition (passed down from a special teaching of the Indian Mahasiddha Naropa). Vajrayoginī herself may be classified as the personification of “Wisdom” or “Mother” and her practice originates with the Chakrasamvara Cycle of Tantras, which is one of the five principal tantric practices of the Sakya School, although found in one form or another, she is included in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. [8]
Vajrayoginī also appears in versions from the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, with one popular system having the practitioner visualize themselves as Vajrayoginī, as such, their guru taking the form of Milarepa. [9] Thus depicted above the central deity here we see Milarepa on our right, with his great Guru Marpa left (whose guru was Naropa himself, and other great Indian masters). [10]
Vajrayoginī is a simplified, single most form of the female Buddha, who is otherwise a collection of alternate forms. From her sādhanās she is visualized in English terms as “Vajra Sow”, “Wrathful Lady”, “Fierce Black One”, and other such similar manifestations of female energy found in numerous iconographic renderings and traditions. Each feature of Vajrayoginī’s visualization conveys important spiritual concept. For example, her three eyes indicate her ability to see all (past, present and future); her red-colored body symbolizes the blazing of her ”inner fire”, and the curved knife she wields, demonstrates the power to sever the delusions and obstacles of her followers and of all living beings. The current form of Naro Kacho Vajra Yogini appeared to the Indian Mahasiddha Naropa after he meditated intensely on her practice inside a cave. He beheld her glorious form in a vision. This unique form became known as Naropa’s Vajra Yogini or Naro Kacho, as it had never existed before. Later, in Tibet, His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche also had visions of Vajra Yogini. His vision differed slightly from the vision of her that Naropa beheld. In the original Naro Kacho form, Vajra Yogini looks towards her pure land named Kechara. However in Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche’s vision, she looked straight at him, symbolic of the deity empowering him to bestow her practice to many people in order to benefit them. The practice of Vajra Yogini belongs to the Highest Yoga Tantra classification that leads to tremendous inner transformation and can even grant enlightenment within just one lifetime.

Vajra Yogini has many different forms and in each of these forms, the positioning of her sacred body, the various implements she holds and the expressions on her face have profound meaning into various aspects of enlightenment. The implements she holds, the expressions on her face, and her body symbolise specific aspects of enlightenment that suit people during a particular time and place according to their karma. So, therefore, Vajra Yogini’s pose, forms and emanations change over time in order to suit different karmically-connected practitioners. It will keep changing because enlightenment is fluid, compassionate and skilful. To gaze upon Vajra Yogini is to look at a complete ‘roadmap’ to enlightenment as every aspect of her body is a manifestation of enlightenment. Therefore to have her form, picture, painting or statue is very blessed. We should make offerings to her daily diligently.
After the great Mahasiddha Naropa had served his guru the Mahasiddha Tilopa for 12 years, Tilopa conferred the Vajra Varahi (another form of Vajra Yogini) initiation with full instructions unto Naropa. Then, Naropa diligently meditated on Vajra Varahi and had a vision of her, and when she appeared to him directly, she appeared in the form of Vajra Yogini. Normally, when he engaged in the Vajra Yogini (Vajravarahi) practice, she was in the form of facing him directly, holding a skull cup and a curved flaying knife in front of her heart. One leg was up and one leg was down as in a dancing pose. That was the form of Vajra Yogini that he had meditated on to gain the highest attainments.
After he had meditated on Vajra Varahi and gained visions of her, she appeared to him in a different form, with her face looking up at Kechara Paradise instead of facing him directly. Her left hand holding the skullcup was thrust in the air and her right hand holding the curved flaying knife, also known as a cemetery knife was facing down at sentient beings or samsara to help beings cut their bonds to suffering. Her left leg was bent, and her right extended while standing in a pose of looking towards Kechara Paradise like she is about to take off there. This form signifies she will take you there and out of suffering. That form of Vajra Yogini became special and that was called Naro Kacho or the Vajra Yogini of Naropa. This Naropa’s Vajra Yogini was initiated to the Nepalese Pamtingpa brothers and they meditated diligently and this tradition of Naropa’s Vajra Yogini just became prevalent and took off from there. Naropa started initiating his other disciples as well into this special form of Vajra Yogini and she became known as Naropa’s Vajra Yogini till this day and it is considered a highly blessed lineage. That is the lineage we have now and most prevalent.
She is looking up because this Naropa’s Vajra Yogini is indicating she will lead her practitioners to her Kechara Paradise within one lifetime if you are diligent in her practice. Realizing enlightenment is harder for people in today’s world and needs more time during Kaliyuga degenerate period, she leads you to her paradise where you can practice undisturbed to Buddha-hood.
In this brilliant artwork, what you see is the Mahasiddha Naropa having a direct vision of Vajra Yogini. It’s the first time she has appeared to Naropa in this form. This form is associated with Naropa. Prior to Naropa, this form of Vajra Yogini did not exist. She in this vision is initiating him into this form (Naro Kacho) of herself indicating this form will be most efficacious now according to our karmic period. In the background, you will see a cave with a light in it because when Naropa used to meditate in that cave, it is said that from his body would emit a light and people could see it from afar. You can also see animals surrounding Vajra Yogini, they can feel her compassion and her great blessings and they are at peace around her.
Vajra Yogini brings peace, love, compassion, wisdom and freedom to everyone who practices her incredibly powerful tantra. Therefore, this artwork is a very beautiful representation of the time when Naropa had a vision of Vajra Yogini in this form for the first time and it is now known as Naropa’s Vajra Yogini. This artwork was offered to me as a gift from a very talented artist. I deeply appreciate this piece of visual spirituality very much.

We are very fortunate to have a precious guru like Rinpoche’s compassion, unconditional love, profound teachings and practices and letting us know about this Diamond Lady though we have not received her initiation. We should have an open minded to receive and follow the teachings from Rinpoche and practice diligently for the benefit of others. For this instance, we can have a strong aspiration and start to do Tea Offering to Vajrayogini that may help to create cause for us to meet her and receive her practice in all future lives.
Thank you Rinpoche and may many others come across this post , create good cause to get closer to Vajrayogini and do her practice in the future.
From Tsem Rinpoche: Every person who has Maha-anuttaratantra empowerments (Eg. Heruka, Guhyasamaja, Yamantaka, Vajra Yogini, Chittamani-Tara, Kalacakra, Hevajra, Gyalwa Gyatso Chenresig, etc) should keep a copy of this on their shrine or prayer book. These are all the ritual items tantric practitioner must keep by commitment. If it is in picture form, it is alright also.
This is a very good and simple write up with very clear understanding how to start off a simple practice to connect with Vajrayogini. I have always wondered how to start the basic practice. Thank you Rinpoche for this very good article._/\_
Thank you Rinpoche for your great kindness and compassion in making this powerful and sacred “Tea Offering to Vajrayogini” practice available to us on this blog. It is truly wonderful that, without any initiation, we can perform this powerful practice daily. Many can perform this practice easily as it is simple and requires few implements. Its benefits are so many and so great. Most importantly, this practice will lead us to create a strong connection with the Buddha for this degenerate age , Vajrayogini!
By doing this practice consistently,we will create an affinity with Vajrayogini and her precious practice . We will receive her protection in this life and create the cause to meet her and her practice in future lives.
Indeed, may we create the causes and have the merits to receive her practice within this lifetime , to be able to practice to gain control, at least, of our rebirth.
Thank you Rinpoche for your compassion in making this sacred practice of tea offering available to us to create the affinity with beautiful Queen Vajrayogini. Rinpoche had said many times before that Vajrayogini is the Buddha most suitable to capture and control our strong egoistical minds in this degenerate times. Rinpoche had also said that the most mediocre practitioner of Lady Vajrayogini will gain a good human rebirth whilst the very best will ascend full-bodied directly into her heaven, Kechara. May we be blessed with the merits to receive her practice in the near future, directly from Rinpoche, who is the pure holder of the holy lineage practices.
Thank you Rinpoche for making it possible for us to connect with Vajrayogini and create affinity for Her full practice. For one who at this juncture lack the merits to received Her holy initiation, I am definitely grateful to Rinpoche for such a rare chance to make a profound connection to Vajrayogini even before being initiated into Her tantra and to create the causes to receive Her complete practice in near future.
The benefits of the Tea Offering to Vajrayogini is manifold. But, to me the greatest advantage is to connect with Vajrayogini and create and affinity for her practice. Before, this I used to love reciting the Praise to Vajrayogini as I felt that it could be done anywhere. In fact, I have kept the prayers in my phone, wonders of smartphone!
I love this Tea Offering to Vajrayogini as well, and had started it but was not consistent. Well, I better make it consistent then.
Thank you, Rinpoche for making this prayer available to all of us.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a treasured Tea Offering practice of Vajrayogini publicly, enable people whom with no tantric initiation to build stronger connection with The Queen through this practice!
I remember my 1st unforgettable experience with this prayer was during Nepal Pilgrimage Trip 2016 when we visited the 1st VY Chapel in Patan – I was totally mesmerised, enchanted the moment I laid my eyes on Vajrayogini in the chapel. The feeling was indescribable. It was since then I started to incorporate Tea offering to Vajrayogini in my daily sadhana.
I hope in the future soon many will be benefited from Vajrayogini’s profound practice, and that it will carry on continuously to benefit countless beings.
With folded hands
Candice Loke
Thanks Rinpoche for sharing this precious practice of tea offering to Vajrayogini and the benefits of it.Its wonderful to know the true valuable knowledge of the offering. We are so fortunate to have Rinpoche at KFR to introduce us to Vajra Yogini’s practice.
Thanks again Rinpoche With folded hands.
I was looking through the site on Prayers and Sadhanna and dropped in to revisit this teaching on Tea Offering to Vajrayogini. I feel very fortunate and grateful to my Guru Tsem Rinpoche for sharing this ritual with us. This allows many of us to create a connection with Vajrayogini in this lifeitme. If we have the merits it will also give us the opportunity to receive Vajrayogini initiations directly from Rinpoche!
“The best anyone can do if not enlightenment for now, is to gain mastery over taking rebirth coupled with developing Three Principle Paths. Where you want to take rebirth can be determined by yourself if you practice the sacred Vajra Yogini Tantra thoroughly.” advised from Rinpoche
There should not be any more procrastinations as time is short; this precious human life is meant to give us the opportunity to achieve attainments in order for us to be of benefit to others, to be Enlightened !!
The tea offering praises to Vajrayogini is beautiful and melodias. Many found Vajrayogini extremely attractive and fascinated. Its a great fortunate that these tea offerings is available to many to practice without requiring any initiation.
The Great Kensur Lobsang Tharchin Rinpoche has been guarding this sacred lineage then pass it down to H.E. Tsem Rinpoche. Normal people like me should be grateful to even have a chance to look at her image, not mentioning having the great opportunity to invite her beautiful images home to make offerings.
Wow that’s great. I don’t have a Vajrayogini rupa yet but do have an unblessed resin Green Tara.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the TEA OFFERING TO VAJRA YOGINI for us who wish to do her practice but have not received her initiation yet. Thank you Rinpoche once again with folded hands.
I offered water to Vajrayogini image and it vapored really fast and it’s scared me
It is inconceivable that everyone can come across such a prayer, even most ordinary confused being like me, making connection with Buddha’s power. Dharma is most important to bring tangible changes to our lives and environment, so full of evil – hope at some point I’ll be stable & wise enough to receive more sophisticated teachings.. thanks to everyone making this blog available, it is incredibly beneficial.
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for the immensely beneficial teachings on the Diamond Lady. I’ve been practising tea offering to her since i was given the prayer for her, however not realising the true valuable significance of the offering. i know that Rinpoche is at one with this precious great lady and through her I hope all of Rinpoche’s wishes will be fulfilled.

I do not know if it is ok to post this here so if it is not, please remove, but I found this video(quite accidentally) and the first half of it seems to be a exact recitation of the Vajrayogini tea offering in Tibetan.

As a Vajrayana practitioner, do you not partake of meat at vajra feasts? I am a great admirer of the late Kalu Rinpoche. Now in Sukumvati. He was very clear on this subject. On page 124-125 in his book, “Foundations of Tibetan Buddhism”,… he goes through the root Vajrayana downfalls. Let me please share downfall #13: “The thirteen root downfall concerns our attitude and approach to tantric practice and tantric ritual. If we are participating in a ganachakra or vajra feast, where ritual use of meat and alcohol is made, and we abstain from one of the other of these on the grounds that it is impure or that it is contrary to our convictions and principles, then we have failed to appreciate the view of tantra which attempts to transcend purity and impurity, attempts to transcend dualistic thinking, and we have failed to appreciate and take part in the spirit of that tantric transformation process. To indulge in this kind of superficial, dualistic clinging to appearances during the course of a tantric ritual is to commit the 13th root downfall and to go against the spirit of our tantric practice.”–(from a facebook comments post)
During tantric rituals, a tiny bit of meat, must be had for the greater view and greater good..which is to overcome clinging…but what I am talking about is daily consumption of meat…steaks, fried chicken, pork chops, leg of lamb, turtle soup, sharksfin, duck, rabbit stew, frog legs, clams, seafood chowder, sushi, and all the other animals slaughtered daily for our taste buds…. If we give up all meat eating and meat consumption then let’s talk about tsok meat. HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche mentioned in Los Angeles, we can take some tsampa and put a few drops of alcohol on it in place of meat when we cannot get it for tsok…..that can be used for meat. In Tibet Kyabje Zong Rinpoche would do that. Tsem Rinpoche
Rinpoche, thank you for this beautiful evocation of devotion to your Guru as a child, and its constant appearance in your life, expressed in part by your reverence for Vajrayogini. Such a powerful, consistent, unhesitating flow, just as blood flows thru our veins. The force of life itself. I love Vajrayogini, too, although I know I comprehend nothing of that which she truly is. I am fortunate to have hanging on my wall a beautiful large print of Vajrayogini that once hung in Jetsunma’s prayer room here at Dakini Valley. I feel very blessed to look upon that image, knowing it is imbued with the sacred energy of a living Dakini.
I am ever grateful for the presence of such pure Teachers as Jetsunma and you, who never cease to provide us with method and blessings. Thank you.
Rinpoche,
Many Thanks for this I shall add to my Vajrayogini section on my website, and I will have a go at this practice soon.
Many Thanks
Jim
Thank you so much for this precious practice, Rinpoche! _/\_
[…] 另一个金刚瑜伽母的修持是仁波切曾在博客里提及的供茶仪式。 […]
Dearest Tsem Tulku,
I overdrew my bank account seriously to visit my love in Indonesia. I don’t know if Vadjra Yoghini would like to see my making more and more depths for my love and happiness. I do enjoy to meet my love, but something must be seriously unbalanced in my perspective of things. Please give me guidance.
Love, Knut
I ask myself… if this is the tea offering to Vadjra Yoghini…
WHY is Vadjra Yoghini not named in the lyrics even one single time?
Hi Knut, i will answer you even though you are asking yourself… i believe it’s not rhetorical…
correct me if i’m wrong…
the Vajra Yogini is included as ‘mother yoginis’ in the text… it’s not a song, so it’s not ‘lyrics’…
you are supposed to visualise yourself as her too according to the text…
umm… just to add… not sure if we are allowed to visualise ourselves as her because we have not received the appropriate initiations… but that’s just what i gather from the text.
You don’t visualize yourself as Vajra Yogini, you just recite the liturgy as blessing and offer the tea. Tsem Tulku
Very good answer and you are correct. Only thing is if you don’t have Her initiation, you don’t visualize yourself as her. You just read the liturgy as a blessing and offer tea to make the connection. Tsem Tulku
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you so much for this teaching!
Hi friends,
i have another question… at the end of the sadhana text there is a part where one seems to be drinking the tea… so are we supposed to drink the tea after we have offered it, to partake of the blessings?
You don’t drink the tea. But if you want you take alittle after the prayer and offering thinking it is a blessing from Lady Vajra Yogini.
Tsem Tulku
okay thanks Tsem Tulku!
hi, can we use any cup for the tea or the special kind of cup shown … ? Can i know who is Ngülchu Dharmabhadra?
many thanks for the translation and instructions online, Tsem Rinpoche.
Any cup is ok. Offer the best you can though. Tsem Tulku
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for always thinking of ways to make these practices accessible to us – from our first trip to Nepal, to visit holy Vajrayogini sites, to inspiring the Vajrayogini book by Kechara Discovery, to encouraging us to invite and make offerings to Vajrayogini images, and now to this tea offering. We are so fortunate to have this rare chance to connect to her in so many ways. This really gives us no excuse NOT to begin our practice towards her right now.
With much gratitude,
Paris
Dearest Rinpoche,
Thank You so much for sharing with us The Tea offering for Vajra Yogini. It is clear and easy to understand and follow.
We are very blessed to received from Rinpoche’s blog, by doing Vajra Yogini’s practice will help me and others to let go of our biggest attachment. May this practice will create the affinity with Her, and be able to accomplish Her practice later on.
Thank You Rinpoche.
Thank you very very much Rinpoche for allowing everyone in Kh whether they be oldies or newbies even not initiated to be able to be able to make tea offerings to Vajrayogini or Diamond Lady to prepare them for the Highest Yoga Tantra Initiations. I guess most people who has taken Vajrayogini Initiations from Lamas in other centres don’t even understand fully what the whole initiations is about. I understand Vajrayogini is also the mother of Kechara House as Kechara Paradise is the abode of Vajrayogini. As students of Rinpoche and a member of Kh. Kh should be our spiritual home. Making tea offerings to Vajrayogini I believe will help us to generate merits to speed up for us to take her initiations. Since we have learnt Serkym Offering mantra to Lord Setrap without difficulty. There will be no problem in memorising tea offering mantra to Vajrayogini too. Better to do in Tibetan.
Dearest Rinpoche,
Thank you seems so mundane given the enormity of this simple yet profound offering that Rinpoche has so kindly shared with us all. Gobsmacked I am! WOW! The only way I know that I may even begin to be able to thank Rinpoche enough is to actually start this practice in the hopes that I may create the causes and affinity to gain her practice in the future.
Much love… Andrew
And by the way, Tsem Tulku… I wonder – don’t you ever sleep?
I mean – physically. It is as if you always reply to my notes. Over here in germany it is 10.00 p.m., BUT in Malaisia it is 4 a.m.! You are in Malaisia, aren’t you? Love, Knut
Dear Tsem,
I am DESPERATELY sorry that I am so resistant against the first three points of the procedure which has to do whith my neagtive experiences on Diamondway Buddhism. How can I ever make this practice attractive to ANYone in Hamburg without being completely one with it? I am such a difficult person to satisfy indeed!!!
Kurt,
It is impossible RIGHT NOW, for us to suddenly be “completely one” with the practice. If we were completely one with the practice, we would be enlightened beings, just like Vajrayogini. But don’t let this be an excuse to NOT practice at all.
Rinpoche has explained to us many times that as humans, with so many millions of lifetimes of karma and habituations, we may slip up sometimes, and we won’t be perfect at our practice at first, but our perseverance, effort, dedication and hard work will be the key in inspiring others. People won’t be inspired by us being perfect and flawless in our practice but they will be inspired by the fact that if you make a mistake, you don’t give up, you keep trying, you pick yourself up and you push yourself to do more than you are used to. Effort inspires many people!
The Tea Offering to Vajrayogini is very clear. Additionally, the explanation about the purpose and benefits of this practice is listed in a comprehensive and easy to understand manner.
Thank you, Rinpoche, for your kindness and generosity in sharing this sacred ritual with us.
May our sincere engagement in this offering create the cause for Dharma to grow and for the Diamond Queen to be close to all sentient beings to ignite & support the development of our Dharma practice.
Ah, yes, one more thing…
the english tea liturgy is as sweet and beautiful as a poem,
but I remember that on some buddhist meditation in Hamburg it was said that keeping to the original tibetan words is more powerful
and for my feeling more penetrating; so I will try to keep doing
the tibetan version and do my best in spelling it as good as possible, and occasionally read it in english, just to understand what “I” am “doing”. LOVE.
Hi Kurt,
Yes, Rinpoche has also explained to us that it is considered more auspicious to recite the prayers in their original Tibetan, as this was the form in which they were first composed by highly enlightened beings, so energetically, we connect to them in this way when we recite in the same original language.
However, it is also of course very beneficial to recite the verses in English as we can then focus more on visualisation, with understanding of what we are reciting.
Thank you. Paris
I want to sincerely thank Rinpoche for providing us such a great practice. It is really such an honor to be able to do the practice of the Divine Female Buddha —– Vajrayogini. I will insert this prayer after my guru yoga. Once again, thank you for bestowing upon us such a great practice that is usually rare to come by for practitioners at most levels.
I LOVE this…
I don’t know if I completely understand every step of the procedure, but I will read myself through the whole practice every single day. Precious – thank you so much, my great and most compassionate friend.
Dear Guru,
I sincerely wish to Thank you for sharing such wonderful & priceless Vajra Yogini’s practice with us….. feel so good to know that many many new Kechara members too has the rare opportunity to pracise it !
This tea offering to Vajra Yogini certainly an offering i’d love to do as my daily practise besides Guru Yoga & Dharma Protector prayer practises.
My Dear Guru, I wish you good health & hope that you can continue carry on to do the works that you enjoy the most for as long as you wish …. i.e. Teaching Dharma to ALL .
Take care, pls .
Dear Rinpoche,
Like others who commented, thank you very much for making the tea offering accessible to all to create causes for us to receive Varayogini’s practice in the future.
When the new KH building is completed, devotees may visit the main prayer hall to make offerings to a bigger holy image of Vajrayogini. Watch out for the announcement.
Dear Rinpoche, thank you very much for your infinite kindness and setting the cause for all to benefit. Was so excited when i received Tat Meng’s sms on this as i have included daily the reading of the Vajra Yogini Prayer card as well as the prayer in the Kechara small prayer book. Rinpoche, can we use the serkym set for this tea offering – the picture depicts a serkym set? If we do the tea offering to Vajra Yogini, do we conclude it with serkym offering to Setrap? Thank you.
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for sharing with us on how to do a Tea Offering and also for explaining with so much clarity the benefits of doing it.
When Rinpoche tells us the story of his meeting with Kensur Lobsang Tharchin Rinpoche, it is done with humility and great respect.
I find it sometimes hard to find the time to do my sadhanas in this “busy” life, but then again, I can find time for other things that are plain useless, so it really comes down to 2 things:
1 -what are my priorities
2 -time is short, hey… that’s not news!
I shall add this tea offering to my daily sadhanas, because it is a priority. If I was biten by a snake, I’d drop all to get the antidote…
Dear Rinpoche, thank you very much for your infinite kindness. Was excited about this when received Tat Meng’s sms yst evening. Recently i have included the recitation of the Vajrayogini Prayer card which i got from KP outlet as well as reading the prayer in the small Kechara prayer book. Looking forward to do the tea offering. Thank you for setting the cause so all may benefit.
Rinpoche, thank you for these incredible teachings and practices. What an amazing way to make a profound connection to Vajrayogini even before we are initiated into her tantra.
This teaching would also match perfectly with the earlier teachings that Rinpoche gave a few months ago about how we can begin Vajrayogini practice, as related to the practices of Tsongkhapa/ Guru Yoga. (it’s the post titled “Starting on Vajrayogini Now” – http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/2010/06/starting-on-vajra-yogini-now.html ) It is all coming together – Rinpoche is kindly showing us how every of the practices he recommends to us eventually links up and brings us directly to the real Kechara Heaven.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Dear Rinpoche,
How kind of you to bestow this tea offering prayer to all of us who are low in merits to help prepare us to receive VY’s Initiation in the future.
It is a simple practice we can engage in easily, yet with benefits that are immeasurable.
May all be blessed by doing the practice with strong faith and devotion.
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you so much for making the tea offering practice available to us.
May we create the cause to receive more Vy teachings from you.
Love,yf
thanks, i don’t have the empowerment, but the statue is pretty. So <3 it.
Dear Terri,
Just to clarify for you – if your read Rinpoche’s statements clearly, Rinpoche has explained that we can all do this without having empowerments or initiation. Hence, anyone can do this and thereby create the affinity with the Sacred Vajrayogini and causes to receive her empowerments and practice in the future.
Please read Rinpoche’s comments as posted below. Have a good day.

Dear friends,
As I have already mentioned, it is fine to do this tea offering daily even without oral transmission (lung) and initiation. One of the reasons you are doing it is so in the future you may receive the initiation and fully practice the Sacred Vajra Yogini practice.
Good Luck!!
Tsem Tulku
Dearest Rinpoche, thank you for introducing us to this much needed precious prayer for everyone,I may not truly realise the benefits now but I will follow the instructions because I want to believe so much,in you and in the dharma.Thank you.
The picture of the statue of Vajra Yogini I have posted here is my personal statue. It is 5 feet in height.
It was created by Kechara Discovery’s Paul. If you are interested in this particular statue, you must contact Paul of Kechara Discovery. Just go to Kechara.com and find Liaison Paul.
Tsem Tulku
Thank you Rinpoche for making an important practice so easily acessible and available to everyone, especially those new ones like me. Every aspect of Vajra Yogini has captivated me from the very first time i set eyes on her image and i am glad that finally Rinpoche has opened a simple way for me to make a connection with the Buddha whose Paradise is Kechara, a name that has become a vital part of my daily life.
Dear friends,

Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for this tea offering which I can add to the prayer composed by Rinpoche on the Vajrayogini prayer card sold in KP stores. I read the part which begins with “Great female Buddha…” almost every day. I found as early as August 2007, that praying to Vajrayogini is very helpful in overcoming anger. She has helped me deal with conflicts in the office, even before I met Rinpoche. I was able to understand the special power of Vajrayogini from reading the prayer that Rinpoche has put in the Kechara House prayer book “Essence of Bliss”. It is entitled “The Goddess That Absorbs All Traumas”. I used to read this prayer quite often. I recommend it strongly to new dharma practitioners who wish to know a little more about this lady Buddha.
Thank you, Rinpoche. Thank you very much for this extremely precious post.
I truly rejoice that everyone and anyone who reads this post can begin making their own connection with the Supreme Queen of Bliss. How fortunate we all are indeed! All thanks to Rinpoche’s great kindness and compassion.
Thank you for your love and kindness, Rinpoche.
I believe like many, many others including myself, uninitiated yet to be given the opportunity to be able to read the clear explanation given by Rinpoche himself to start doing Vajra Yogini’s practice now is truly rare.
I do pray that many have the merits to take heed to the clear instructions given by Rinpoche to do Vajra Yogini’s practice so we may create the cause to meet with her and her paradise in future. I also pray that we may be able to hold weekly Vajra Yogini prayers at KH to benefit many.
Venerable Rinpoche,
Thank You so much for the generocity comes out of this post. But I was really astonished by the statue of Vajrayogini as well!!!! How could I find a statue like that for my shrine???…
And another question, more “serious”… Can I practice the Tea Offering without having the lung or the initiation?
Thank you,
Konstantina (Athens, Greece)
Hi Konstantina,
Yes, that is truly a very beautiful statue isn’t it! She is stunning, like Vajrayogini is really there.
This was a very special Five-foot Vajrayogini statue that was created by Kechara Discovery. you could contact them for more information about this statue. Or, alternatively, we also have many other really beautiful Buddha statues available on the Kechara online store: http://www.kechara.com/eshop
happy shopping!
Dear Rinpoche
A very simple and heartfelt THANK YOU for your kindness in teaching us how to do the offering of tea to Vajrayogini. EH MA HO!
Dear Rinpoche
Thank you for bringing us closer into the Diamond Lady’s mandala! I am extremely fortunate to have Rinpoche’s guidance, teachings, practices, unending love and care. I wish very much to know the Diamond Lady and be one with her. I read each word carefully and am amazed with the tremendous blessings from engaging Tea Offering to Vajrayogini.
May many others come across this posting, create the causes to do her practice and be one with Vajrayogini!
yours humbly
susan
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the Tea Offering Practice with us. It will be something special to do for daily offering. May Rinpoche live long and healthy and continue to bestow teaching on us!
Thank you Rinpoche for this posting of Tea Offering to Vajrayogini.
Through this beautiful Tea Offerings to Vajrayogini, May we be able to collect enough merits to receive Vajrayogini initiation in the future.
Thank you again and again Rinpoche for your kindness and compassion to introduce such a priceless practice to us during this degenerate time when we so needed Her help and guidance.
Dear Guru ,
A Million THANK YOU to you for your kindness in posting this , i am also one of the many always wondering how to “get” in to her practice. This DIAMOND LADY practice is undoubtedly unquestionable worth every single moments of our life to practice it. Finally the uninitiated can get to do it as well.
For you to take your time to even explaining it and informing everyone on such practice just show how kind and how concern of you to everyone. May i be able to serve and repay your great kindness one day.
Take care and get good rest.
ck liew.
Dear Rinpoche thank you for your immense kindness in posting this sacred teaching. This is certainly an offering i’d love to do daily!
Thank you very much for sharing this Rinpoche.
Dear Rinpoche,
I hope you are in the best of health, Rinpoche, thank you for posting such an precious practice, this is the first time I ever see a practice on the web of Vajrayogini, and I knew this practice is just so precious that really inspire me. I really love her from the first sight her posture really does brighten me up. Thank you Rinpoche more and more people will benefits from this practice.
Dear Rinpoche,
I have been writing and re-writing this comments for 30 minutes now and I don’t think I can EVER find words which can help express my deepest gratitudes towards your kind guidance and care.. I will follow your instructions and hope to be taken under the protection of VY from now on.
THANK YOU.
Dear Benji,
I am so happy you are able to see this posting and understand the significance. It takes a rare huge amount of merit to be associated with Vajra Yogini.
Her practice is relatively ‘easy’ compared to the other tantric deities. But we can start by having her image, and doing tea offerings to her with other offerings. Reciting aspirational prayers in front of her image would be very powerful. Doing dharma work in Kechara would be similar to doing the preliminary practices prior to tantric practice. Very important to do the preliminaries or tantric practice will not be fulfilled.
I wish you good luck and happiness. I wish so much you and millions of others will become powerful mahasiddhas of the Vajra Yogini tantra.
Tsem Tulku
Dear Rinpoche, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for making this sacred teachings available to us and in such a clear and simplified manner. May many beings benefit from this and that one day soon your students will be able to do her saddhana in KWPC!
Thank you immensely, ‘kam-sia che-che’ Rinpoche. i feel so happy, even just to glance at the posting!
