Board of Directors 2013-2015

Mar 12, 2014 | Views: 1,502

On 14 August 2013, Kechara had its historic last Liaison Council’s meeting.

The Liaison Council has been the main group of people who build and sustain Kechara. It is thanks to these group of dedicated Kecharians that Kechara has evolved to where it is now. We have 13 departments ranging from a publishing house, to a soup kitchen to even shopping outlets, because of these hardworking Liaisons. They found the sponsorship, got the volunteers, led the department, got the relevant papers sorted, paid the bills, maintained the facilities etc etc.

As we are continuing to grow rapidly, the Liaisons have kindly decided to make changes to our organization’s structure. The changes is to create more involvement from all Kechara members and to ensure continuous dynamism and generation of fresh ideas.

On 14 August, the name Liaison Council was officially changed to Board of Directors (BOD). The Liaison Council did their last prayer and dedication, and was officially dissolved. During the interim period, Kechara members were allowed to submit their names to run for BOD candidacy.

On 8 September 2013, 19 Kechara members ran their individual campaigns at Kechara House for 16 BOD positions. The 18 running candidates were:

1. Irene Lim
2. Khong Jean Ai
3. Chuah Su Ming
4. Nicholas Yu
5. Pastor Yek Yee
6. Miss Han Siew Hong
7. Dato’ Ruby
8. Beng Kooi
9. Datuk May
10. Paul Yap
11. Adeline Woon
12. Andrew Boon
13. Li Kim
14. James Long
15. Moh Mei
16. Henry Ooi
17. JP Thong
18. Wai Meng

Each of the candidates had their turn to give their campaign speech to an audience that was open for all Kechara members to witness and participate in.

After the campaign speeches, Life A members were invited to vote. In Kechara, we have different categories of members, however only Life A members have the privilege to vote.

After the 16 new Board of Directors were announced, I decided to come to Kechara House to congratulate all who ran for BOD elections and to the new Board of Directors. For the next 2 years, until the next elections, they will be the governing body who will take care of the day to day affairs of the secular aspects of Kechara.

The Liaison Council offered me the right as the Spiritual Advisor of Kechara to appoint 6 BOD members. I felt that one of my long-time student Colin Tan, whom I have known since he was very young, would serve to be an effective BOD. His loyalty and passion towards spreading the Dharma is consistent and unshakeable.

At Kechara House, I gave a short talk on who the previous liaisons were, their functions, the new direction and the purpose of having a Board of Directors for Kechara. The talk was recorded, do watch the video below to understand more.

I congratulate all who ran for candidacy. They are those who care enough to be a BOD as it will enable them to be part of the decision-making process for the future of Kechara. After the elections, I took the new Board of Directors to Kechara Oasis for a celebratory dinner where our first unofficial meeting started. It was an auspicious date that marked the beginning of many exciting and beneficial things to come!

Please send your prayers and good wishes to the new Board of Directors: Jean Ai, Su Ming, Nicholas, Pastor Yek Yee, Miss Han, Dato’ Ruby, Beng Kooi, Datuk May, Paul, Adeline, Li Kim, James, Moh Mei, Henry, JP and Colin Tan!

Congratulations to the Board of Directors, which replaces the Liaisons Council. The new Board Of Directors with its elections is a necessary step as Kechara continues to grow at its spectacular rate. This allows the organization to be more transparent to the people on the outside. It also allows the organization to not be completely dependant on the guru as the guru should not be doing the samsaric duties of administration but rather the guru should be teaching. This would lighten the burden that can sometimes be placed upon our guru.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this with us. This is one of the most important moment in Kechara. We placed our vote to vote the best out of the best. These are the people who always at the front guarding Kechara. They worked hard and they contributed their life to Kechara. I have full confidence in them that they will be the roll model for us and bring Kechara to the next level. May they all always protected by the three jewels and dispel all the difficulties to grow and spread the Dharma.

  6. Karen Gan on Mar 17, 2014 at 11:26 pm

My respect and congrats to the BOD,their effort to the growth of Kechara and to help Rinpoche fulfill his holy wishes to spread the Dharma to benefit others is the example for us to learn. I wish them success.

  7. Carmen K on Mar 16, 2014 at 11:53 pm

The Board of Directors of Kechara has been democratically elected by Life A members of Kechara. They are the ones whom members of Kechara feel are able to guide and lead us to bigger growth to spread the lineage of Tsongkhapa and share the Dharma. Rinpoche’s teachings of Buddha’s timeless wisdom is in abundance, and it changes the lives of others, so these individuals are the driving force to lead and guide to preserving and further growing this to bring it to many around the world.

Kechara is what it is today thanks to the many past and present who have contributed as well as all ex liaisons of the Liaisons council. The Liaisons had given it their all and undertook the responsibility to grow their own department so that each works in alignment to the vision in preserving the Dharma. That hardwork can not go to waste and is now under the care and dedication of the 16 Board of Directors.

Campaigning to be a Board of Director must stem from lots of care, love, responsibility, dedication and passion. Congratulations to all who took part. All who partook put themselves up for election because they agree to let go of their comforts and take on the responsibility of the entire organization upon their shoulders. Whether they were successfully elected or not does not matter, but having the courage to stand up for election because they want to make a change and contribute to making a change deserves a standing ovation.

The BOD oversees all secular matters of the organisation as well as the spiritual development of the organization. From fundraising to managing projects to nurturing and building, the BOD has to ensure that everything is carried out accordingly. Yes, you might think that it is run just like any other profit-generating business, but the one main difference is that these people work stemming from the motivation to serve others with no personal profit in mind. Kechara is a not for profit, spiritual organisation and is here solely to spread the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa, to spread the teachings Rinpoche has compassionately condensed from thousands of years ago to make it applicable in today’s times and to serve every being by relieving their suffering and showing them the way to peace and happiness. Everyone is entitled to that chance to happiness and through the BOD’s dedication and Rinpoche’s spiritual guidance, Kechara stands today to continue to give to others.

It was a momentous moment in Kechara’s history to be able to witness and elect the BOD as these are the people whom for the next 2 years, are entrusted with the responsibility of putting others ahead of themselves. Kudos to them for standing up to making a difference in the lives of others and to uphold the BuddhaDharma and the spiritual wellbeing of everyone.

Congratulations to all who are elected to the newly form BOD of Kechara House. The formation of the BOD is an indication to show that Kechara House is growing. This growth is not only the acquiring of property but more of the growth of DHARMA. Listening to the presentation of the 19 candidates you will see what passion they have to follow Rinpoche’s direction.

I’m proud to be a member of Kechara House not because of the size it has grown or the property they acquired but the essence of the teachings they teach.

I believe one day Kechara House will grow into an institution.

  10. LT Loo on Mar 15, 2014 at 8:19 pm

Kudos to all candidates that run for the BOD election. It does not matter whether you win nor loss in the election. I greatly admire your courage to sacrifice your own comfort to take up the task of spreading the Dharma, the ultimate goal to benefit others. You have show us the 21st century way of Guru Devotion Practice. May the new BOD team brings Kechara and Rinpoche’s teachings to a new height.

  11. Joy on Mar 15, 2014 at 6:21 pm

Being a BOD is just another label and a title, it does not mean those who are not a BOD are ineffective, in fact there are many who are effective and bring in results who are ordinary members.

However, becoming a BOD in Kechara means you carry a title that holds responsibilities of being the “ones” in the forefront carry out and ensure the Guru’s vision and mission is met at all cost. Otherwise it becomes just another “label” that is “empty”. If there is results… then it would collect tremendous amounts of merits for the whole organisation, it is a privilege as you are voted in.

Those who campaigned and won to be BODs of Kechara and who are actually playing the role of a BOD are truly blessed and are inspirations to many. It shows with strong devotion, sincerity, hard work, and effort, people have faith and conviction that you will carry through your work to ensure Dharma is spread. I congratulate those with such conviction and big hearts like Paul, Su Ming, Beng Kooi, JP, Datuk Ruby and more… but these are the few people I see who is always loyal, and no matter what ensures that Rinpoche’s vision is met as best as it could. They’ve been with Rinpoche through thick and thin… and their devotion are admirable examples we can learn from, achieve and be as well.

Everyone can be a BOD or not a BOD, but everyone can be devoted, sincere and work hard for one’s Guru devotion and Dharma to spread!

I truly believe the boards of directors who has been elected to set the objectives and overall direction for Kechara, had done a good job and is still doing their best to serve for Dharma, Kecharians and non Kecharians on many levels, in line with Rinpoche’s vision.

They are the very few people who show real example of a devoted student of Tsem Rinpoche by taking a step forward to lead the whole organization. You guys are so admiring because of your selfless motivation to the benefits of many. However, for the growth of Kechara, everyone of us should also put much effort to realize it. Together, let’s create a harmonious environment and work together. Nothing can beat the beauty of teamwork.

Rejoice to all the BOD members. They are a group of very dedicated people who put others before themselves, and ready to serve others.

BOD members hold more responsibilities than anyone else, they formulate and execute plans that are tightly aligned to Rinpoche’s vision. They are the leaders of Kechara Organisation, we, the followers should give them our support by action.

  20. Albert Ratchaga on Mar 14, 2014 at 5:15 pm

Reading this article reminded me how time flies. When I first join Kechara and it was only about 10 Liaison running the organization. The group was very small and the Liaisons work very hard to make sure the organization run smoothly.

In my very beginning days in Kechara, I constantly has a questions of why do these group of people have meeting for days and days? what is there to talk about? Why wasting so much time going to a long hour meeting. Until when I understand more and involve more in Kechara’s operation, then only I realized how amazing these people are.

First of all, they gave up their high pay job out there and committed full time in a Buddhist Organization, they are young and talented. It is really not easy to run an organization, to make sure the daily operation of the 13 departments run smoothly, have enough funds to sustain the expenses, take care of human resource, take care of people who walk in to Kechara that needed assistance, and the list goes on. On top of what they are doing, they even go down to each and every one in Kechara, listen to their problems and give them advice to overcome it. There is not a lot of Liaisons during that time, and they are handling all these.

For the first year in Kechara, I had experienced a totally different working environment as compare to any of my previous organization. Their passion and care is just incomparable, and during that time, the one person that strike me the most is H.E.Tsem Rinpoche, as a new staff and a nobody in Kechara, one day someone came into my workplace and pass me a working bag, and says it was a present from Tsem Rinpoche. I got a shock as I didn’t expect Rinpoche to know about me. I was really touched by the care from Rinpoche and his students, in my thought back then, where on earth there’s the big boss of the organization give gifts to the staff which he has never met.

As time passes, when Kechara started to grow, when there is more people came in to work, when Kechara expend, the work load is even more, hence the method of managing this organization has to change, to go to a new direction so that Kechara can benefit even more people. So the BOD is formed to work hand in hand to bring Kechara to another level. This group of BOD are the very people who got the respect from everyone because they promised and they go all the way to make the Dharma grow.

Congratulations and thank you BODs for showing such great example in leading the organization. May your hardwork continue to flourish and more people in the future will walk your footstep to continue the legend you have created, to bring Dharma to more people.

    with hand folded

  23. Lim Tat Ming on Mar 14, 2014 at 4:55 pm

The Kechara board of directors (BOD) can be likened to the limbs and mind of a human body. They work collectively to realise the missions and visions of the organization under the spiritual direction of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.

In addition to that, BOD functions to maintain the smooth operation of its various departments and divisions.

BOD has the function to ensure that the teachings from HE Tsem Rinpoche are spread to the ten directions and are well preserved for the benefit of future generations.

Not forgetting, BOD has to lead KECHARA staffs, members and volunteers in the right direction in line with the mission and vision of KECHARA.

BOD basically has the functions of a governing body of any other commercial, non-government organization, government or other organizations. However, BOD in KECHARA has an added function than any other organizations mentioned above. It provides spiritual aspirants the golden opportunity to serve in the board to bring the rare and precious teachings of the incomparable Buddha Tsongkhapa as presented by HE Tsem Rinpoche to benefit others far and wide around the world.

It is due to the compassion of HE Tsem Rinpoche that KECHARA had arisen and hence the BOD. To the members of the BOD, I rejoice in your selfless devotion to our guru and Dharma and your motivation to bring happiness to others.

Thank You Rinpoche and KECHARA BOD.

In a spiritual organisation, the board of directors not only act in accordance to lead others and make the organisation organised and grow. What matter most is each BOD are in tune with Rinpoche’s vision which is to make the dharma grow and to benefit others. Each of these BODs were elected based on motivation, loyalty, capabilities and most of all their love for dharma. They want to be BODs because they care enough of Kechara’s future. I’m glad to be able to vote for them.

There are no more deserving Kecharians than the 16 elected BODs. These are exemplary ordinary people who do extra ordinary deeds and continue to do so tirelessly everyday. My deepest respect to all BODs and their unwavering devotion to Rinpoche and bringing Kechara to new heights.

Would like to send my gratitude to all of the BOD may they continue to do good work for Kechara Organisation. It is not easy to be ONE which requires a lot of hard work, determination and strong yet they put Dharma above everything else and truly believe in spreading it for the better to all of us in Malaysia and to the world as well. May these 2 years will be the years of bringing Kechara and Buddhism in the new level. Keep up the good work to all of the people who are working for Kechara.

  33. Khoo on Mar 14, 2014 at 3:30 pm

The election of Board of Directors has marked a new step forward in Kechara. It means the members of Kechara are able to take a more participative role in the decision-making process. No doubt that most BODs are students who have been with Rinpoche and Kechara through all the up and down time, and they have proven their capabilities and loyaly to Kechara, but the members who have joined after these time will be able join the BOD as part of the decision making group as well if they have results and earned the respect from the Kechara members. Like what Rinpoche said, we are now a democratic organisation.

Congratulations to all the BODs and I am sure Kechara will continue growing under the leadership of these wonderful people.

They do whatever things need to be done for Kechara in order to benefit peoples. It is not just a job but it is on helping others who are suffer. I respect them for their good motivation and willingness to put all their time and life to benefit peoples. Proud to have them lead the Kechara Group. Please support them to benefit you and others.

  35. Pastor Jay Jae on Mar 14, 2014 at 3:18 pm

Rinpoche’s vision for many to benefit from the Dharma comes in various forms. Sometimes difficult to fathom for the average person. But true to Rinpoche’s promise and commitment to his Gurus, Rinpoche is able to push the platform for Dharma to grow to a all new level.

the Board of Directors comprises of a group of very diversified people who come together with the goal to both serve Rinpoche and spread the sacred Buddha Dharma to the many directions. Their dedication and commitment will be the cause for the Gaden lineage to be preserved and proliferated in this world.

There are many views to the establishment of the BOD but with faith and devotion of our Lama, we will be able to go all the way to achieve great success both spiritually and be an inspiration for others to do the same under Rinpoche’s leadership.

Kechara has come this far under Rinpoche’s direction to be of help to others. This is due to the charismatic leadership of Rinpoche and the dedication of the previous Liaison’s council and now the BODs.

    May Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings prevail!

Congratulations to the Board of Directors, which replaces the Liaisons Council. The new BOD with its open elections is a necessary step as Kechara continues to grow at its spectacular rate. I commend the new BOD for taking full responsibility, accountability and transparency for this organisation – especially as there will be challenges ahead, which face all organisations which undergo rapid growth. May their 110% commitment and courage be always remembered and may they always be empowered by the principles of Dharma, and of wisdom and compassion, which Kechara was founded on.

Kechara Buddhist organization has moving forward to new history. Kechara founder H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche has giving permission of Kechara members elect our Board Of Director to operate the whole organization for the secular matter. Beside the BOD also assist of pastors to managing the spiritual side to teach dharma in the organization.

Some of the BOD like Pastor Yek Yee, Pastor Adeline and Pastor Moh Mei are also holding both position to serve spiritual and secular matter in the organization. Congratulate to the BOD who has elected to continue to serve the dharma by two year term and set the good example for the future BOD for the organization.

    Congratulations to the new BOD.

I like that they’re elected in a democratic process. The team is a mix of ‘veterans’ and new members. This is a good combination. While the new members will inject new ideas, the elders will guide and ensure they are on track following Rinpoche’s vision.

The members of BOD deserve good supports from all of us. They worked very hard for Kechara and Rinpoche. I am very sure they’ll continue to do the same in their term as BOD. Together we can help spread Dharma and make Rinpoche’s vision comes true.

詹杜固仁波切常强调:“Don’t wait for the light, be the light”(简译:不要一味等待光明,让自己成为光源。)。

As a member of Kechara, I am very happy that we are involved more in the growth of Kechara and I feel like we are like a family.

By electing the BODs, we are indirectly involve in the decision making process for all the matters in Kechara. And by having the BODs, we are running our Dharma center on our own under the constant guidance of our spiritual guide, Tsem Rinpoche. This ensures Rinpoche to focus more on teaching the Dharma to people all around the world. This is such a BIG step forward and great improvements!

All Kecharians found their own special ways of contributing to the growth of the Dharma and Kechara. When we take up the responsibilities and do the work ourselves, we grow and we learn, then we benefit others. Kechara is the place where we train our mind and we contribute to others growth as well. The courage and effort that BODs have are the inspiration for all who have the same vision to bring benefit to many.

Congratulations to all the new BODs and let us all move further and complete our mission to bring Dharma and happiness to all. 🙂

  50. Pastor Shin on Mar 14, 2014 at 1:31 pm

I had/have the opportunity to work with most of the BOD members and one thing I notice very strong in them, despite their various background, skills and interests, is how much they passionately work hard to fulfill Tsem Rinpoche’s vision of Kechara Forest Reteat and our other causes.

The BOD members showed their sincerity by going through a democratic voting system for them to become elected representatives in the development and affairs of Kechara organisation. It was good to see the BOD elected in as it represents the mandate from fellow Kecharians for them to lead the organisation. I pray that the BOD will be able to carry out their duties without much obstacles, and may their effort in contributing to the growth of Dharma through Kechara lead many sentient beings to their spiritual path.

The Kechara Buddhist organisation was founded by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche of Gaden Shartse Monastery, who makes the ancient wisdom of Buddha’s authentic teachings, which are timeless and universally relevant, available to modern practitioners in Malaysia and worldwide.

We owe everything to our Guru. It is through the kindness and compassion of our Guru that the Board of Directors of Kechara can be servants of dharma. This is a position of service, responsibility accountability and integrity. All Kecharians can aspire to become a BOD as Kechara belongs to all of us.

It is inspiring to witness anspiritual organization operate with such dynamic and open-minded attitude. This is what draws people to Tsem Rinpoche and Kechara: the modern twist that is assimilated into a 2500 years old doctrine. This approach Tsem Rinpoche takes makes it easier for people of the 21st century to understand and practice the Dharma.

The innovative and creative ways Rinpoche takes to make the Dharma accessible to many is endless and not limited to the establishment of the BOD but also the establishment of this very interactive, exciting and informative blog that has touched the lives of more than 3 million people from around the world.

We must also remember the efforts put into setting various department so that people from different backgrounds and interest has a platform to engage in dharma practice.

I was fortunate enough to be a part of this historical event! Although this was the very first time a Board of Director election was held in Kechara, I believe that it was carried out efficiently, professionally and most important of all, fairly.

Each candidate was given an equal opportunity to explain their current position, what they have achieved so far and their future plans.

After the votes were counted, I remember Rinpoche mentioning that the number of votes each BOD got was a reflection of their hard work throughout their time in Kechara. I believe so, as some BODs delivered really short speeches (probably through their humility), that didn’t properly showcase all that they had achieved so far, yet they had the highest number of votes. Talk about how actions speak louder than words!

The current serving BOD for 2013-2015, are a diverse mix of individuals – those who are still within their 20s, and those who are within their 60s… and there are those who have been a student of Rinpoche for over 15 years, and those for just over a year!

I believe that this diversity is healthy as it reflects the various demographics Kechara seems to attract. It’s as if the appropriate representative is within the Board to better speak out for the members.

Congratulations to all who have been elected! 🙂

Through the years, there are ups and downs in Kechara, the mission & vision still the same, “TO BRING DHARMA TO OTHERS”

Board of directors’ role is to make Kechara grow, work together with Rinpoche to archive the goal.

Its an honor and privilege to serve Kechara at the same time practicing and applying dharma, I will always remember what Rinpoche thought us, “ put dharma as one of the compartment and spill over to other compartments, follow guru’s teachings very well, understand the dharma well, when problems come we can handle gracefully.”

This year, it was a completely new style. There was the campaigning done in KH Gompa in the form of speeches where each candidate related their contributions and how they had served Kechara,as well as their mission statement.

The Board of Directors that were successfully elected , will now direct all their efforts and endeavors to carry Kechara to a new level in fulfilling Rinpoche’s vision and mission of benefiting others. There were one or two fresh new faces. It’s good to see this, it is rejuvenating for the Boards of Directors.

  72. henry ooi on Mar 13, 2014 at 11:23 pm

Today in Kechara we have the BOD. Prior to this was the Liaisons Council. Let me go way back then to how all this started.

Rinpoche wanted a changtso, a Tibetan name for a Manager or Head of Ladrang (Tibetan for a Lama’s residence and administration). A candidate was appointed but the position was soon vacated due to personal reasons that changtso had at that time. Instead of finding another replacement, Rinpoche appointed a few changtso, who later were named as liaisons by Rinpoche.

Kechara, as it grows, will have more people who want to learn and practice the dharma. Among these people there may be some who want to go all the way, that is, to practice the dharma. What better way to practice than to be in the dharma, either as a full time volunteer or as a full time staff in Kechara. Better still, take the initiative and responsibility and aspire to be one of the next BOD.

Learning dharma, attending dharma talks and puja, is very good. Practicing dharma by being in dharma and working for dharma for the benefit of others is also very good. To do both is the best for one’s spiritual growth in dharma.

  73. Nancy Loo on Mar 13, 2014 at 11:02 pm

In fact, all the 18 candidates have successfully delivered their respective campaign speeches in different styles and approach but everyone of them has the same objective…..spreading of Rinpoche’s teachings, dharma and struggling hard towards the growth of Kechara. May all Kecharians with the blessing of Rinpoche and the great leadership of the new BOD be able to work harmoniously to put Kechara on the world map!!

  76. Li Kim on Mar 13, 2014 at 10:34 pm

It is an honour to serve as a member of the BOD in Kechara. I have served on other companies before and it was totally driven by monetary gains and profitability. Being on the BOD of Kechara is not about profitability as it is more about making decisions about the growth of a Spiritual organization where people’s spiritual journeys are important. Of course as BOD we discuss many “secular” matters because like any organization we must attain sustainability.

The BOD is made up of different individuals who have different views, opinions and experience BUT what we all have in common is the growth of Kechara to the vision of our Spiritual teacher Tsem Rinpoche. I will also admit that we have fun and laughter in our meetings especially when we have debates to come to amicable consensus on different opinions. To me this is what it should be, different views must be discussed so that we all have understanding of different scenarios and thoughts. We cannot run a spiritual organization if we ourselves do not create harmony.

I am grateful to have the trust of Rinpoche and BOD to be a member of an important team in Kechara. I bow with humility and folded hands.

There’s nothing more powerful than a dedicated and passionate group of people who are determined to make a difference for the good of society. Kechara has progressed in leaps and bounds ever since the Liaisons Council (and now the BOD) was conceptualised through the visionary foresight of our spiritual advisor, H.E. Tsem Rinpoche.

Time flies.. it is already 6 months since Board Of Directors election… It is “comforting” to see many of the high respected people are in BOD.. comforting because I know they will do their job to hold Kechara together with the purpose of benefiting others. Their motives are never about what they can gain, but how they can help others.

I have seen many successful people, but many are motivated primarily by money, fame, etc, but I am glad I am in an organisation who is not lead by people who are not motivated by money and self gain, instead for the benefit of others.

I give BOD my full support and together we shall achieve greater heights!!

  88. KH Ng on Mar 12, 2014 at 5:59 pm

All the 18 candidates who stood for the BOD elections actually deserve to be in the BOD simple because of their motivations and dedications and of course as Rinpoche thought so, Colin Tan as well. To be in the BOD is not simply being part of a team although teamwork is important; it is also about driving oneself fully 24/7 to benefit others. For this I rejoice and salute the BOD. The BOD is the closest to Rinpoche and all that Rinpoche represent in benefiting others.

“Time” flies and will continue to fly. It is what we do with our time that matters not what time does to us. I had the good opportunity to have attended the BOD elections and talk given by Rinpoche. There is so much to re-learn and do.

At first I was skeptical on the set up of this whole Kechara organisation(sorry to say). It runs like a mogul, like a high profile company, with business-for-profit mind of thinking…but now, I got to actually bow down to each and everyone of those who have been in Kechara. Without them sacrificing their time and effort, I couldn’t even have known Kechara or even worst, not having the opportunity to learn Buddhism at all. If one truly have scan through their profile, you will never even expect them to be together! Some are very educational, some are high profile and some like Adeline who just loves Dharma. Thank you for standing up to do what is right and truly benefiting others (all these are easier said than done). All the best….

    • David Lai on Mar 13, 2014 at 7:35 pm

      Dear Jacinta,
Thank you for your frank opinion of Kechara and I am glad you have somewhat changed your opinion of Kechara. If you are reading this, please share how you made that change of mind because that would be very important to clarify the doubts that other may have on this matter. Personally, I feel that Kechara have to move towards being more organized and that would entail having hierarchy and such. We also have to ensure that the BODS that come to power have the Rinpoche and the Dharma in mind. This is protect the interest of our organization and to ensure that everything we have and produce goes towards benefitting others.

  92. sweekeong on Mar 12, 2014 at 11:55 am

Very happy to see the Kecharians who put themselves as candidate to become the new Board of Directors of Kechara. There are many who has been disciples of Rinpoche for a very long time and also the newer ones as well. They are good leaders as well as team players. I believe this is a good direction for each of us because they inspired me and others that there is always a better future by serving others. A spiritual organisation is all about the people and it is the people here who make it happens. The Board of Directors are important as they provide a coherent voice and focus on the work we do here in Kechara from midterm to longterm. I believe each of them is up to the challenge and wishes them well in leading Kechara in this 2 years. Congratulations!

  93. Fong on Mar 12, 2014 at 11:41 am

My respect and admiration for the members of BOD who put dharma above all else. They show by example what dharma and guru devotion is all about.

Due to the Dorje Shugden controversy many practitioners are still oppressed due to their choice of religion. Yet there are complaisant, and obliging people too who barely understand the situation, poorly informed of the issue and behave in a way they knew what’s going on regarding the ban on Dorje Shugden. There are many good bits of wisdom and worthy words in this article. Well-intentioned people make mistakes, lots of them. Mistakes must be expected and being held accountable for. Oppression will still exist no matter how compassionate sharing with others. If we are willing to risk making mistakes we can still do something. We must constantly try to find out ways to use our privilege to push forward the voice of the oppressed. Do not allow ourselves to be immobilized by lack of knowledge.

Inspiring read of Scott Neeson a most influential person in the movie industry, walked away from Hollywood to start a charity. Left everything he had built, been famous, wealthy and living a life of luxury for the sake of those children living in the slump in Cambodia. He decided to leave Hollywood behind and moved to Cambodia and founded Cambodian Children’s Fund . It was on a trip to Phnom Penh, Scott saw hundreds of children and their families living and working on the Steung Meanchey garbage dump, one of the most toxic environments. It was a moment that changed his life, helping thousands of vulnerable children and their families escape a world of forced labour, child trafficking and desperate poverty into safety and independence. From being a self-serving person, to an extremely giving person truly inspiring. Scott has been living in Phnom Penh where his journey still captivates, inspires and bewilders people from all over the world.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring post

Vairochana Shugden, pacifying form of Dorje Shugden is revered by many for his ability to purify one’s negative karma, pacify natural disasters and calamities. And is especially efficacious for overcoming illness and disease as well. Shize or Vairochana Shugden is the emanation of Dorje Shugden who embodies the enlightened activity of pacification. Shize’s practice is very effective in helping us to receive prophecies or develop clairvoyance. Shize’s practice is excellent for calming ourselves down and increasing our merits. His practice results in our minds becoming much happier and being alleviated from depressions. Wow we can also rely on Shize’s practice to overcome serious illnesses. It can also be engaged where the area, there are a lot of natural disasters. On the whole its practice has many benefits. When we do the practice correctly, with good motivation, Shize will bless and guide us.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great teachings on Shize who is a direct emanation of Dorje Shugden who is none other than the enlightened Manjushri.

Interesting article. I never thought meditation can help oneself quit smoking without consumption of medication or drugs. According to an article in The Buddhist Review, not smoking is a result of developing calm and reducing clinging through authentic Dharma practice. Mindfulness-based interventions can help people learn to pay attention to and work with negative feelings, cravings, and other symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. By focusing on our breathing the mind becomes calm and single-pointed. Many are aware of the health risks and addictive properties of nicotine that are harmful. Buddhism is very effective to inspire transformation in people. Good read of how a Yale psychiatrist bringing together neuroscience and Buddhist practices to help people overcome their addictions. Thank you Dr. Judson for the great research work.

Trode-khangsar a 400 year old Dorje Shugden Temple in Lhasa, had me having great memories. Having a privileged to visit it in May 2019,with my Dharma brothers and sisters. It such a Holy Temple with great stories behind it . Located in Lhasa, that is over 300 years old which is dedicated to the controversial protector deity Dorje Shugden. The Temple is a Gelugpa monastery of Tibetan Buddhism, built in the 17th century by the Fifth Dalai Lama. The Great 5th Dalai Lama composed a praise to Dorje Shugden and created a statue to honour and recognize him as a Dharma protector as apology. Trode Khangsar itself is now registered as a national heritage memorial. That’s awesome as more and more people will get to know about this Holy temple. Merely by looking at those fading murals and Holy statutes is a blessing for all who came to visit this Trode-khangsar. A place worth visiting.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. There is a belief in rebirth

Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
