Question asked by Malshan Wicramaratne
Dear pastor,am very thankful for the reply on my past question but I need a broader advice on the below questions,
We being Srilankan Theravadin Buddhists find the Tantrayana a new and more appealing path,I have a diligent enthusiasm for learning Tibetan Buddhism whereby I had found resourceful literature online, but the confusion over which school's texts I should refer, confuses me, as there are no current Tibetan Buddhist institutions in Srilanka ,the matter worsens,Should the practice of Tantrayana yield fruit based on the school and are there particularly interesting websites on online Tibetan Buddhism learning?
Looks on for your reply, may the noble triple jem bless you.
Dear Malshan Wicramaratne,
I suggest you read an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism first which will give you the basic knowledge that you need. H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s books and his articles in this blog are very useful for beginners in Tibetan Buddhism. In fact, in Tsem Rinpoche’s blog, you will find all you need to know about Tibetan Buddhism. The teachings are conveyed in a language that is easy to understand. As for Rinpoche’s books, for a start, you can read: “Compassion Conquers All”, “Gurus For Hire, Enlightenment for Sale” and “The Living Buddha Within”. You can order books and teachings on DVD through http://www.vajrasecrets.com. I also recommend the “Lamrim” which is the stages of the path to enlightenment. There is a concise discourse on the Lamrim by Pabongka Rinpoche entitled “Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand”. Books by the Dalai Lama are also easy to read and understand.
There are four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. All are good and will yield fruit if practised properly. You can read about them to find out more. In Kechara House, we follow the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism founded by the great Lama Tsongkhapa. There are many teachings in this blog on Lama Tsongkhapa. Do spend time to go through the articles and listen to the video teachings.
