MEET THE MOTHER OF A PET STORE PUPPY
My name is 109. I have lived in a puppy mill for 6.5 years. I have had 11 litters of puppies and made my owner over $30,000.
To show his gratitude, he has never bathed or brushed me….he has never placed a kind hand on me. I have never seen a vet or felt grass under my feet. …
The only time I am out of my 2×3 crate is when I am bred by force. I get a little more food and a cleaner pen when I have my babies. I am happy for awhile, but by 4 weeks they take my pups away to sell them online and at pet stores and I am alone again back in my crate.
The wire floor in my crate has caused me to have permanent deep painful groves in my pads. My nails are so long I can’t walk on a hard surface.
Today, we were rescued. I am so scared, but I experienced something I have never heard before…..a soft, gentle voice.

Pets have come to mean so much in our lives. They gave and teach us unconditional love. Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most their time waiting for us to come home each day. Sad to look at the pictures of this pet named as ( 109) before and after. A vast difference which clearly show how badly abused she was treated while in the mill for 6.5 years. Could not imagined that poor mother pet ( 109) had not been bathed, nails and hair not cut a long, long time. The puppy mill than sell all her pups online and at pet stores for a few thousand dollars. One lucky day 109 and few others were rescued and taken care by a kind owner.
Do hope more people will be aware of any puppy mills abusing pets and get it reported. Hopefully more pets will be rescues then .

What the puppy mills did is total cruelty. They are just using the dogs for profit without taking good care of them. Dogs are living beings who deserve respect, love and care too. The next time we get a pet from pet shop, please do background check as we should not support puppy mills.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. There should be more awareness about pets to the people out there. Pets are also part of the family. They too need the love and care from their owner. It is cruel to lock up a pet in the cage for long term and don’t take care of them. The best the owner can do for 109 is to at least care, bathe and gave her enough to eat because the owner sold off all her babies for money which is very depressing for a pet. 109 was lucky to have been saved and being taken care of by the new owner. May she have good health and care.

Thank you RInpoche for sharing this with us. It is really sad how people are treating these dogs that are helping the m to make a living to be in conditions like that.
If more people are willing to adopt and not buy any pets, dogs like 109 would not be in situations like this. It is just sad to see dogs being locked up their whole life. Not being able to play and get any love or care at all. Hopefully more people can understand that by buying pets from pet stores, they are actually supporting puppy mills like this, harming their loved little one’s parents on the way.
This is so brutal, you can see how badly the dog was kept, she hadn’t been shaved in so many years as when you see her, she is just covered in fur. It makes me sick of how people would treat animals like this.I would never do this because i love animals so much. Please never ever abuse an animal no matter how they look or act.
They are lives so that means that that dog must have went through so many heartbreaks because that she has to give birth to so many litters of pups only to have them take away from her. It doesn’t matter how she is a dog, it matters that she is also a mother. So now i want you to get up and go help any animal shelter because they are lives and they have feelings and needs too.
Believe it or not, this is just one case. This happens on a daily basis millions of times a year because in slaughter houses, they breed countless cows, pigs and chickens only to slaughter them and take hem away from their family. They don’t even see daylight for their short lives. If you want to help them, be a vegetarian and save lives today.
This article reminds me of Lui Lui… who also had her hind legs damaged from birthing too much, too frequent and inadequate care.
If there were no demands for good breeds, or for cute puppies… incidents like 109 won’t happen and puppy mills may not surface.
If only everyone just goes to SPCA to adopt pets…
This is so sad. No one should buy or breed dogs. They don’t deserve this kind of suffering because of materialistic needs of others. Sigh. but I am glad someone helped him
Animal cruelty is a monsters practice. They have lives and they have rights! Think! I am a proud animal lover and i will never hurt or not care for an animal that i am responsible for. I cannot wait for karma to bite those sick people hard.
Please stop puppy mills. If we used and abuse others, the wheel of sharp weapons will return to us in full force. Karma is infallible and its potency can last for many years. When the conditions and causes are right, the karma will manifest itself.

This is so sad, I cannot imagine the life she went through, no proper nor clean place, never had a grooming, no love, no friends. Her story reminds me of Lui Lui- Jean Mei’s sweet lil pomeranian, she was used as a ‘breeding machine’ to give birth to pure breed pomeranians until her back legs were permanently damaged, she couldn’t walk nor ran like normal dogs although she’s better and more active now. It pains me everytime I see her, she’s such a sweetie and yet the previous owner was so cold blooded and treated her so badly. Luckily Jean Mei adopted her and takes very good care of her, she’s not alone anymore.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this short and bittersweet story. This should be spread to even more people out there so more awareness will be created about puppy mills. Humans will do anything to make profit, even to the suffering of a poor little dog. From the picture, I really couldn’t figure out its limbs, head, tail… How can humans do such thing to a poor helpless little cute dog. Hopefully many more puppy mills will be discovered and many dogs will be saved from all these sufferings.
For the want of money, there is practicaly no end of cruel, heartless and greedy ways, humans used to expoit, ill-treat and multilate animals to satisfy their wants! 109 has suffered so much of abuses and tortures already, and yet, made so much of money for her greedy, heartless and cruel owner who is so ungrateful. We believe that every creature with a will to live, has the right to live frre from pain and suffering.Only prejudice allows us to deny the rights we expect to have for ourselves. Even when she was rescued, 109 still feel so scared, because all her life, she had been so terribly ill-treated, never had the chance to see a vet, but tightly and breathlessly confined inside a small 2x3ft crate and had never felt grass under her feet. At least now, she has the thrill of hearing a “soft,gentle voice” for the first time! Let us all pray for her good karma to come. Om mani padme hum.

It’s incredible! The photo before and after for puppy look so much diffrence. The puppy was gone through very tough time to survive. Fortunate he able save on time and have a good new life. See the photo so cute and adorable.
Saving life is virtuous act and we should treat animals life equally.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing on this article about the dog breeders. Due to human’s greed, most of the dog breeders i have encountered will only think about their next income after selling the puppies and not to bother for the mummy dog whether she is well taken care of, receive sufficient food or clean environment and protection. It is indeed a very selfish thinking and selfish act with ZERO compassion towards the suffering of animals. Let us start to adopt animals rather than buying them from the shops.
What a big difference in the before and after photo. It showed the ugly side of how human can be so inhumane and take advantage of the dog for his own profit!

109 is being use to give birth puppies make money for her owner, may she can get the foster home to take good care for her in the rest of her life. May she able to connect to holy Dharma hence avoid for this kind of suffering in her next life…
For pet owners, we should be consider deeply before we keep a pet. We need to have a full responsibility through the pet we love before we adopt them.
This is so sad and yet so happy. Its sad how 109 was treated and how the previous owner used 109 for such horrible things. I can’t believe they would put such a cute animal under such conditions. But the story is also very good and cheerful because at the end the dog does get a better home and a real owner who will care for 109. Thank you for sharing.
Poor dogie 109! Just can’t imagined how she has been treated for the past 6.5 years this was so inhumane! I couldn’t even figure it out what animal it was in the picture before. Now i am so glad that she has been rescued and well taken care of by a kind, soft and gentle lady. 109 is such a cute and lovable dog now! Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing.Wow..what a change,from a fur ball to the most adorable puppy.How could anyone treat any dog in such a manner. I once saw some actor reenacting on how it would be like if we were the cow and they were taking away our calf.the aggressor was the cow this time. It was really cruel,not much different from the situation of 109.
Hope 109 could get a nice foster home and enjoy the warmth of being loved.May the public practice adopting stray puppy and drop the idea of buying one to show off to their friends…..
At the first sight of the picture, i thought it was some record holding,over fed cat, rabbit or some other animals. I come to realized it was a cute but abused little dog behind the matted furs.
How ugly human can turned into when it concerned personal material gain from others. From the beautiful facet of healthy loving puppies are the whole pervading ugly scene of puppy mill.
Where have all the human good qualities disappear to ? In the eyes of the pet owners, can’t they see and feel the pain and suffering of all this animals which they have treated and regard as the ‘money making equipments”!!! Being born in the animal realm are unfortunate but yet this animals were abused and forced to live under such conditions. I sincerely urge people to adopt and support the animal shelters. Dog mother is suffering for separate from her puppies, just a short moment take care of his babies ,so sad and painful. This is unnecessary, will share to public . May more puppies rescue and release from this suffering.
6.5 years and alone and lonely most of the time with her fur all matted and dirty.
I looked at the first picture many times, yet I could not figure out which is her face and where are the limbs.
So cruel of the owner, only looking at the money that 109 could bring in.
OMG! I couldn’t even recognise what’s in the first picture, she is so sweet and pretty, I really do not understand why would someone just leave this sweetie all by herself without bathing her, giving her proper shelter and never even groom her. This is so cruel! Do you know how does it feel like to be a breeding machine? I’m glad that someone rescued her and brought her out of that ugly shelter… Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
Dear Rinpoche, I can barely even recognize that it is a dog. What kind of person is the owner, don’t even bathed, brushed and cut it’s hair. Look at this dog after getting her fur cut, she looks so gorgeous. How and why would anyone do this to an adorable dog? So cruel! I hope the owner gets charge for animal abusing.
wow, this is really bad, i hate it when people abuse animals and this counts as abuse. it makes me sick when people do this, i am against this, i am against PET stores. people should rescue and adopt animals not do this! thank you for sharing Rinpoche
Thank you for sharing this story with us Rinpoche. Greed has caused animals to suffer especially in the case of pet shops. Every child is brought up thinking that the pet shop is a safe haven for animals but they were lied to. Pet shops are horrible, especially those who use a puppy mill. Adopt from shelters. The animals there need help and they are not bred to be adopted.

Is very sad to read about the dog being used for business, we human being a very selfish when anything to deal with money or material wealth therefore I think the only way to help this animal is to create awareness among the public through social media by doing so hopefully the animals will be protected.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this info to us. As I thought branded dogs will have good care by someone. They have nice fur and we like to pamper with care. Never know the greedy breeder to maximise their profits and never look on the dog’s health condition. Is money so important that could blinded people’s compassion? Why not the scientists check this people’s brain that what sickness they have for torturing this animal.
This before and after pictures plus the story of 109 is a good reminder human’s greed will do harm to others and in the end to himself/herself. We don’t even feed and clean properly a being that “earn you money and good life”.
Please adopt dogs or cats or any animals whenever you could, instead of buying from pet shop.
Thanks Rinpoche for bring tis article to our attention. Quest for “branded” puppies has brought the greed of some people to fill this market, irregardless of the suffering that they cause other beings. I hope all other puppy mills get discovered n that the dogs get adopted by loving families.
