[Prepared by the Kechara Pastors]

A Brief History

The pastorship role was conceptualised by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche to preserve the Dharma and to give laypeople an opportunity to commit to benefiting others. The first Buddhist Pastors were ordained on 24th October 2011 and every year since then, more have made this commitment to bring the Buddha’s teachings to people in our modern era.

Kechara’s Buddhist Pastors received their ordination from His Eminence, whose vows stem from an unbroken lineage of Tibetan Buddhist masters, tracing all the way back to Lord Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha. In addition to holding their Refuge and Pastors vows, serving others with sincerity and without a selfish motivation, they also undergo various levels of training in their spiritual advancement before they become one of Kechara’s Buddhist Pastors. The selection and training is a rigorous process, and the appointment of the Pastors must be approved by Kechara’s Board of Directors and blessed by His Eminence.

After Ordination

There are two types of Pastors within Kechara:

  1. Lay Pastors: people who are committed to their spiritual practice but have pre-existing obligations to family and other commitments.
  2. Sangha-to-be: people that are aspiring to become fully ordained members of the Sangha (monastic community) in the near future.

Pastors bridge the gap between the ordained Sangha and the everyday practitioner. By holding their Pastors’ vow, they make the Dharma more accessible to people, giving guidance and sharing their knowledge. Pastors are ordinary people who have taken an extraordinary step in dedicating their lives towards sharing the Dharma. They have made a commitment towards their spirituality and the spirituality of others.

Eight years have passed as the Pastors continue to serve the community, in a spiritual capacity, assisting His Eminence in his compassionate and visionary works. His Eminence envisioned Pastors to create waves of merit for limitless sentient beings through their body, speech and mind.

The Pastors have the privilege of touching many people’s lives, by serving the public; Kechara members, their friends and family; as well as people all over the world through social media and a dedicated Pastors’ corner on His Eminence’s blog (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/ask-the-pastors).

Selflessly Serving Others

Pastors dedicate their time fully to assist His Eminence by nurturing fellow practitioners along their spiritual path. Pastors share the Dharma with others, help them with their practice and inspire them with their good example. Pastors will also prepare fellow practitioners to receive higher teachings and initiations in the future.

Besides duties and works that support the operation of Kechara’s various departments including Kechara Forest Retreat, Pastors’ duties also include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing Buddhist prayers and rituals at Kechara Puja House or offsite.
  • Performing last rites and bereavement ritual services.
  • Performing blessing ceremonies.
  • Performing marriage registration.
  • Conducting public talks and other outreach programmes.
  • Conducting various educational programmes.
  • Providing counselling in person and online.
  • Providing Dharma support and guidance to the Kechara study groups in Peninsular Malaysia.

Pastors maintain good conduct and ethical behaviour, wear his/her Pastor’s uniform with integrity and a strong sense of selfless servitude to others. Pastors are ever ready to make house calls for bereavement prayers and are here to educate the public on various aspects of Buddhist practice.

Working on 24/7 basis throughout the year, Pastors play an important role in the lives they touch through their generous service. The pastors need your support, by providing donations for the following:

  • Food
  • Lodging
  • Transportation
  • Items necessary for their work, such as ritual items or spiritual gifts for those in need.

  • You provide the Pastors the means to make a real difference in people’s lives.
  • You ensure that the Buddhist teachings can be shared with others.

I am not sure where is appropriate to post this.

I am from Phoenix Arizona, USA. I am 68. Three year ago I visited Thailand and South East Asia where I first experienced Buddhism and the profound effects upon their culture. I have been developing a growing interest and study of Buddhism since that time.

About a month ago or so I came across Tsem Rinpoche on YouTube. I immediately felt enamored by his knowledge, speaking ability and wit. He has such presence. He is the guru I have been looking for. I then found he has passed.

I am interested in learning/studying the Dharma. I would travel to KL now but can’t because of the travel restrictions at this time. I believe Kechara may be the place I have been looking for.

My association with Kechara Pastors started in Feb 2016. All this time I only know the word Pastor is confined only to Christianity but on a Buddhist platform it came as a surprise to me. My first contact with a Pastor was Pastor Adeline.
My first impression of Pastor Adeline was her brightness; to me she appears demure, pleasant, and one could feel a peaceful aura when standing next to her. I cannot help wondering why such a young lady would sacrifice her youth to do this type of work; it did not hit me until much later on after viewing and visiting Rinpoche’s website, Facebook and You tube video that made me realized that these are the people commonly labeled as “the dying breed.” I can understand that many of these young people went to a religious institution because of being unable to handle life’s pressures, being a social outcast, family rejects and for very many multiple reasons or as a form of escapism. However, these Pastors as I know now is highly educated and with good family background they would be able to stand high among the best in society if they chose to lead a mundane life. An afterthought would be that they must have found some gems far much greater and valuable than all the jewels on planet earth.
Pastor Adeline exudes pleasantness hard to describe an example would be like when I bite into a juicy apple you would not be able to understand its sweetness no matter how hard I try to explain it to you unless you choose to take a bite. Pastor Adeline has that type of qualities within her, my wife Christine always tells me that she likes to look at Pastor Adeline’s face because of her complexion in addition she could feel a deep sense of serenity whenever they meet.
I would summarize Pastor Adeline as a personification and a live example of Rinpoche’s teachings and if I may add through these Kechara ambassadors, Kechara would have no problems in meeting and fulfilling its objectives and I sincerely hope to be a part of this journey with Kechara

It is very inspiring to learn about the story of Pastor Antoinette Kass. She first met His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche in 2011. Over the next four years, there were less than 24 hours of personal meeting between Pastor Antoinette and Rinpoche. Yet on Wesak Day 2015, Pastor Antoinette took a bold step forward by shaving her head and joining the big family of Kechara by becoming a Pastor.

Kechara’s Buddhist Pastors received their ordination from His Eminence, whose vows stem from an unbroken lineage of Tibetan Buddhist masters, tracing all the way back to Lord Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha. Pastors bridge the gap between the ordained Sangha and the everyday practitioner. By holding their Pastor’s vow, they make the Dharma more accessible to people, giving guidance and sharing their knowledge. Dear Pastor Adeline,
We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to your taking care of us during our recent KFR open day visit on Dec 12th. My sister in law was very much impressed by what H.E. Tsem Rinpoche heavenly effort in setting up Kechara Malaysia and in disseminating and allowing Malaysian at large to know this lineage of Buddhism.
It was really very enlightening sharing my thoughts with you along the trip on several aspects of Buddhism, I must congratulate you and wholeheartedly admit your knowledge in Buddhism is pretty profound.
As you are pretty aware I am currently reading Liberation in the palm of your hand and recently purchased a book on Tsongkhapa, a simple guide to a powerful practice apart from the earlier book I purchased on If not now when. I really do find these books very absorbing.
My sister in law is pretty keen to become a life member and also Christine is also keen to become one too. They should be visiting the Sunday dharma talk at Kechara pretty soon to get to know more of H>E Tsem Rinpoche teachings.
Thank you once again Pastor Adeline

      Dear Sonny,

I apologies for this late reply and thank you kindly for your kind words which humbled me further to continue learning and practising dharma. I wish very much to see Christine and sister to be in the dharma class and looking forward to having you in our big family. Please continue to learn and keep Rinpoche’s teachings at heart.

Thank you and please take care,
      Pastor Adeline

Under the leadership of Pastor Yek Yee, Kechara Pastors maintain a high standard of behavior to effectively guide others spiritually. Please give your support to these wonderful Pastors of Kechara for their work to grow and benefit all sentient beings. Thank you Rinpoche for Kechara Pastors!

The pastors name is synonymous with service. And the past few years have seen the pastors render all manner of services to the public and also grow in stature in terms of their skills and ability of benefitting others.

Thank you very much to Kechara pastors for bringing Lama Tsongkhapa to others and far and wide.

Yes, I agree that they deserve to get all the support they can, and they are worth it. Please support them from your heart. They practice Rinpoche’s teachings thoroughly by truly immersing themselves in dharma. I pray that the pastors and pastorship grow, grow and grow more. I admire you very much. Please carry on these wonderful jobs.

Thank you Rinpoche, and thanks to all the Pastors! Pastors are really like my parents (some are brothers and sisters of course :)), coz they unconditionally love us, help us, nurture us, guide us, no matter where and when. I must say this here, I love u all the Pastors! 🙂 _/\_

  14. Pastor Yek Yee on Jan 13, 2015 at 12:12 am

Thank you Rinpoche to have Pastors system in Kechara. I would like to thank all Pastors for their 24/7 hard work, services and guidance.

So please support the Pastors work and effort for dharma to flourish to benefit all sentient beings

  16. Uncle Eddie on Jan 6, 2015 at 11:38 am

Dharma teaches us to bring to mindfulness and compassion on what we see and feel in heart and mind! Its time for us to broaden our circle of compassion to help lighten sufferings of beings by becoming more caring and loving, and find skilful way to unbind our sense, so that suffering can be transformed into an awakened heart that can do good to the world. Under the capable and dedicated leadership of Pastor Yek Yee, working on a 24/7 throughout the year, the Pastorship squad are compassionately seen doing what are most required. Like H.H. The Dalai Lama said, “I believe that every level of society, the key to a happier and more successful World is the growth of Compassion. All that is necessary is for each of us to develop our good human qualities”. Kindly, please support Kechara Pastorship programme generously to help them to carry on their sacred duties for the benefit of all Beings spiritually. Om Mani Padme Hung.

Pastors in Kechara serves many people from all walk of life within Malaysia and internationally. They do dharma work without any complain and spend hours and hours nurturing those who are not spiritually inclined yet and those who are not located near the dharma centre. They receive emergency phone call requests at any time of the day or night and will perform any prayers or attend to those in need at the drop of pen, on requests for help or assistance.

They are ‘real’ samaritans on the go from Kechara. They do not ask for anything in return but instead they give more than others.

So please support the Pastors work and effort for dharma to flourish to benefit you, others, friends and family.

Kechara Pastors work tirelessly to benefit people in our community and also the world. Their only intention is to help others in times of need whether spiritually, emotionally or even physically. They are available all the time when their services are needed.

  21. Stella on Dec 30, 2014 at 5:00 pm

In my opinion, people who are ordained as Pastors are selfless and they put the interest and benefits of others before themselves. From my observation, Kechara Pastors work 24×7 through out the years. It is a thankless job most of the time.

It is therefore a privilege for us to support the Pastors so that they can reach out to more people and help those who are truly in need. I hope more people will come to realize the hard work that Kechara Pastors put in and continue to support their work.

Thank You Rinpoche for creating this role to benefit people like us in a land that has little mass consciousness of Buddhism.

This is all about the blessing from Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. As your kindness, we are able to get the assistance from pastors and all the pastors in charge for different departments to spread dharma by different way. This is so rejoice to have all the pastors here in Kechara and I believe by the effort all the pastors contribute would really help people who r in suffer or who seek for spiritual guide. Tsem Rinpoche, thanks for your kindness. For all the pastors, thanks for your selfless love, really thank you.

Indeed with the Pastors, the gap between lay people and Dharma is bridged.

I have personally witness many accounts of how selfless the Pastors are. They respond very quickly and are accessible 24 hours, even at late hours for any sort of prayers.

The level of their commitment to Dharma, to Rinpoche and to the community is very strong.

Thank you Rinpoche, for forming up the Pastors.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. There is a belief in rebirth

Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great inspiration post.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .
Thank you Rinpoche and Li Kim for this sharing.

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
