Making Offerings to Shar Gaden Monastery

(By Tsem Rinpoche)

Around August 2013, the Board of Directors in Kechara presented me 800 White Tara statues to request for my long life. I was very touched by such a wonderful and sincere offering from my students, as I knew it must not be easy to arrange for 800 statues and on top of that, have it all painted by our own in-house artists! All statues were also made in-house within Kechara! So I accepted the offering and told Beng Kooi, one of my Changtsos… instead of keeping these statues in the ladrang or in Kechara Paradise, I would like to offer these statues to the monks in Shar Gaden Monastery as it would be more beneficial that way.

A few months back, Beng Kooi arranged for these statues to be safely shipped to India, and also arranged for 29 pilgrims to join the pilgrimage to Gaden Monastery so they may be part of the offering ceremony on my behalf. Beng Kooi is truly a wonderful and sincere person, she works so hard and expects nothing in return and very trustworthy with her work. I was wondering why Beng Kooi was rushing to offer the statues to the monastery early October 2014, and she told me it was because she wanted to make the offerings before my 49th Birthday which is my obstacle year… she hopes by making these offerings, it would clear some of the obstacles to my long life… I thought how thoughtful and auspicious.

So, in early October 2014, Beng Kooi and her team of 5 people, along with 29 pilgrims flew to India to make the statue offerings to the monks of Monastery. For many that went to India this time around, it was their first experience travelling to a monastic setting. I’m glad that they have the merits to make this pilgrimage as they met with many high lamas and many old, holy monks… holy because they held their vows perfectly for the past 60, 70 years or so. Our pilgrims did many other virtuous actions while they were in the monastery, such as making offerings and meeting with many high lamas, which I will blog about it another time. I have been making offerings and supporting this monastery for over 7 years now along with a few other monasteries and large lama ladrangs. Prior to Shar Gaden I have been supporting and donating to Gaden Monastery for nearly 27 years now. I know most of the senior monks as they are my friends as I’ve known them for over 27 years and you don’t just forget friends even if they number in the hundreds. Hundreds of them are my dharma brothers or monk brothers. I miss many of them very much. I attended many activities with them back in Gaden. We all were in Gaden today in our much younger days before I was sent to Malaysia. Many of the senior monks who are my friends sent warm greetings to me. I’ve had to make much and many donations over the past 7 years to Shar Gaden Monastery. For whatever thoughts may arise, they are monks and deserve to be supported.

Below is a short write up on the highlight of the pilgrimage, which is the offerings of the White Tara statues, robes, books, food, drinks and along with it, many wonderful and beautiful pictures of the pilgrims making offerings to the monks. Do take a look at the wonderful pictures and if you have never been to pilgrimages, or even if you have been for pilgrimages… rejoice and make a strong motivation that you too may have the merits to make pilgrimages in the near future.

Making Offerings to Gaden Monastery

[Written by the blog team]

Making offerings to the monastery and Sangha is well practiced in all traditions of Buddhism as it is known to be a meritorious act. It is something that we should do either on a daily basis such as simple food offering to the Sangha, which is the common practice of Thai lay Theravada practitioners who offer danna (food) to the monks, or on a larger scale, to sponsor the construction of prayer halls, temple buildings, statues and robes to the monastery. Understanding this method of accumulating vast amounts of merits, the Board of Directors of Kechara would make major offerings to the monasteries, once in every few years; in dedication to the good health and long life of our Spiritual Director, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, and to offer support to the monks in the Monastery.

On 11th October 2014, a group of 35 pilgrims made a complete set of offerings to the Sangha members of Gaden Monastery during their 4 day pilgrimage to the Monastery. During the morning puja, which lasted from 6 am until 12 noon, the monks recited the Namgyal Tsechog Puja (Long Life Puja) in dedication to the long life and good health of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. A total of 800 sets of offerings were prepared for the 800 monks in the monastery. Each set of offering consisted of a photo of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, an 8″ White Tara statue with gold face painting, a dharma book, a set of robes, a red packet (a monetary gift) and also sewing fees for the monks to send their robes to the tailor. Additionally, the group also sponsored breakfast to the whole monastery that morning. We purchased the comics on line and had it shipped and offered. Luckily the comics were done in time as the organization in charge were friendly and helpful. The comics are a history of the holy protector that has been very well produced by another group online.

For many of the pilgrims, it was their first visit to a holy site like the Monastery. The journey was made  “extra special” because they could make such elaborate offerings to the monks, which is a rare and precious opportunity to amass vast amounts of merits. The act of giving also develops within us the virtue of generosity, which is the direct antidote to miserliness and counter to overcome attachments, which is a source of our suffering within samsara. We hope that through these virtuous activities, we create the cause for the works of the Monastery and their monks to prosper and for the great teachers to continue to turn the wheel of Dharma and benefit many. We also pray for His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche to have a long and stable life, and may all of Rinpoche’s Dharmic aspirations materialize.

Attached below are some pictures from the offering ceremony.

Sponsoring Breakfast for All 800 Monks in the Monastery

The monks on duty served breakfast to the rest of the monks in the prayer hall. The ambiance was festive.

Tibetan bread served with butter: a simple but healthy breakfast for the monks

Serving Tibetan Tea: enjoying this traditional recipe of tea preparation is an acquired taste. However, it is wonderful to witness the Tibetan culture is still vibrant within the monastic community here.

The monastery’s Gekula (disciplinarian) announced the sponsor and dedication for the day

Offering 800 White Tara Statues

800 White Tara statues offered to the monks in the monastery. Offering statues is an extremely meritorious deed, especially when the receiver are pure and holy monks. With every day the receiver make their prayers, the giver gains much merits as their generosity gave someone else the ability to practice the Dharma.

Unpacking the statues before the pilgrims offered them to the monks

Offering 800 Sets of Monk Robes

800 sets of complete monk robes were stacked up outside of the Gompa, waiting to be distributed

The sponsorship of the robes include sewing fees as well as the robes material

Monk robes for the younger children

Offering 800 Books to the Monks

800 comics were offered to each of the monks in the monastery. We had to contact another organization for these and they were very friendly and helpful. I wanted to thank them for getting these comics ready in time for the offerings.

The monks were looking forward to the protector comics: taking a sneak peak!

Mr KH Ng, whom is also Kechara’s Vice President offered a White Tara statue to Khensur Rinpoche on behalf of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche

His Eminence Domo Geshe Rinpoche placed His White Tara statue and a picture of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche neatly on his ritual table. This incarnation was found by the current Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and the oracle. Both Trijang Rinpoche and the oracle of the protector separately announced this to be the undisputed incarnation. The previous Domo Geshe was very close to the previous Trijang Rinpoche. He requested Trijang Rinpoche to find his incarnation before passing.

Vinnie Tan offered a set of monk robes to Kyabje Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche’s throne

Monks are the embodiment of renunciation. When we offer robes to the Sangha, it is symbolic that may we too achieve renunciation from the cyclic rebirth of samsara

Pilgrims received an appreciation gift and khata offering from the disciplinarian and administrators of the monastery

Many of these monks are materially poor, but spiritually rich. They own simple personal altars, sometimes only with pictures of Buddhas. We are glad that we have this opportunity to offer them a beautiful White Tara statue, as the image of the Buddha is the map to Enlightenment

The younger monks also received a complete set of offerings

This young monk, smiling brightly after receiving the offerings from the pilgrims. May these young monks succeed in their studies and graduate as learned Geshes to continue to turn the wheel of Dharma

Beautiful pictures of the Kecharian pilgrims on behalf of our Lama offerings to Shar Gaden Manastery tells all. Its such a great moment for them be able to offer plenty of offerings such as books , Tara statues , monk robes , sponsoring breakfast, comics, tokens for the monks at the monastery. Meeting H E Domo Geshe Rinpoche in person is indeed wonderful for the group. They were fortunate able to offer to the high lamas and monks in the monastery. Looking at the pictures of smiling young monks and the rest of the monks at the monastery , can tell us how happy they were. Very meritorious and lots of merits collected when we offer and support the growth of Dharma.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for sharing this auspicious post with us. It is amazing that Kechara has the chance to make such offerings to the high lamas and monks in the monastery. This is a clear example of the generosity of Rinpoche that wishes each and every one of us to adopt.

Making offerings to the sangha is very meritorious and we can collect a lot of merit with such actions because we are directly supporting the growth of Dharma and those high lamas are Buddhas. Seeing such pictures warms my heart and I rejoice to see those happy faces of those monks who received those very much needed offerings.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

Finally, logic prevails. People who can think beyond gross prejudice are beginning to see the goodness of Dorje Shugden. I came across this comment by Suzy on Rinpoche’s YouTube chanel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl-4lIwxph4&t=11s) and it is such a welcome change from the usual abuse hurled at Shugden people by those do not understand the issue.

Rejoice for the the pilgrims and also all Kecharians who are involved in this action.
It is supremely sublime type of offering to make offerings for the well being and welfare of the monks.

  18. TekLee on Dec 15, 2016 at 12:12 am

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the article and the lovely pictures. It is very meritorious to make offerings to the monks. And it is very inspiring that Rinpoche has been donating to Shar Gaden and many other monasteries. Just like Rinpoche set up Kechara Soup Kitchen, giving to the poor and unfortunate without asking anything in return. This inspire us to do more and to develop our compassion in our spiritual path. We should always make offering to the monks, and practice giving. By giving out, we will get something in return. It’s not materialistically return, but in return of happiness. It’s another happiness that grow from inside 🙂 Thank you again Rinpoche. With folded hands _/\_

We all know that it is extremely meritorious to make offerings to Sangha. I am indeed happy to see this as well. I hope many will come forward to offer some to the monastery or whichever temple that they chanced upon. These Sangha communities need our support to keep the tradition alive. Most importantly to keep continuing practicing Buddha’s teaching.

  20. Carmen Koo on Dec 5, 2016 at 1:47 am

I had the honour of being a part of this sacred pilgrimage trip, to make offerings to the holy sangha of Shar Gaden Monastery. Throughout my time in Kechara, I have witnessed Rinpoche sponsoring and supporting many monasteries, sangha and charitable organisations.

Without the sangha, there will be no Dharma, therefore we have to continuously support the activities of the sangha. Since Buddha Shakyamuni taught the perfect Dharma 2500 years ago, we are fortunate to even be able to hear a drop of the Dharma to date, and it can only be due to the kindness of practitioners, lineage holders, monks, nuns, yogi, teachers, arhats, lamas, because they took the time to learn, practice, and teach it to others, and that has been continuous to date.

Sangha members, especially the senior monks and nuns, dedicate and spend their lives holding their vows, so they are holy. They spend their lives engaged in virtuous activities, reciting mantras, doing pujas, retreats, spreading the Dharma to others and therefore when we make offerings to the sangha members, it is extremely meritorious.

Very happy and feel great when I know many Kecharian going pilgrimage and make white Tara statue offering to Shar Gaden monastery monk on behalf of my Guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche.

Action is always louder than speak. Guru keep supporting Shar Gaden monastery is really show an good example to many Kecharian to do more meritorious deeds to collect merits which is very important in spiritual path.

Thanks Guru and his assistant Beng Kooi to practice these virtuous actions to benefit more people.

Beautiful white Tara statues…..Rejoice to the 35 pilgrims who make offerings to the Sangha members of Gaden Monastery on behalf of our Guru Rinpoche Beautiful and precious pictures indeed..its a once life time occasion been able to be there offering many Holy items to those spiritual rich monks. Beautiful quote….which i always remember

Wonderful to see these pictures and rejoicing news indeed. The practice of giving without expecting anything in return for me is the supreme practice. What more if one is making offerings to the Buddha and Sangha. Rinpoche has always been a giving person and generosity is one word I often hear from others who spoke highly of Rinpoche. Not only did Rinpoche supported Shar Garden but Rinpoche also supported many monasteries in the pass including Gaden Monastery and is very deeply remembered till today. Rejoicing to see these pictures.

  24. Joy Kam on Nov 28, 2016 at 11:49 pm

How meritorious this is. Although I could not be there at the time, but I totally rejoice in this great deed because it such an honour to be able to make such extensive offerings to the whole sangha community of a monastery!

All this is made possible and appreciated due to Rinpoche’s kindness in teaching us the value of making such great offerings. Being in a monastery alone is already a blessing, being able to make offerings to the three jewels there that is alive and living/learning/proliferating the Dharma is beyond a blessing. What a great meritorious act for the whole of Kechara to be able to do this and may we be able to continue doing so in order to gain the merits we need for our own Dharma centre and community to grow even further to benefit more.

Thank you for this precious picture post and a great rejoicing event!

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful and meritorious act. I have learned so much from these examples that being compassionate, generous, 100% Guru devotion, be loyal in your practice, and always, always think of others is the root of attainments.

I am also truly humbled by these acts of kindness towards any monastery will generate so a vast amount of merits that is needed to sustain and spread the Dharma and be always connected to the Three Jewels.

May your Eminence live long, have great health and continuously turn the Wheel of Dharma until the last sentient being is liberated.

    Humbly yours,
    Lum Kok Luen

It was an exciting moment. I recall waiting anxiously for the statues to arrive. White Tara was most meaningful as I understand she represents long life and good health. And then knowing how awesome it was that Rinpoche would be offering them to the monks. Rinpoche is constantly caring and thinking of others. Seriously, I don’t know anyone else who would freely give to benefit others like Rinpoche. Therefore, it deeply infuriates me and totally irritates me when people go online defaming Rinpoche. And worse are those who leave and then slander the very person who gave them deeper spiritual values away from hedonistic desires. May Rinpoche live long and Kechara grow to great heights.

  27. Bradley Kassian on Nov 28, 2016 at 1:20 pm

A very meritous act. Through the virtue of the monks upholding their vows and helping sentient beings, the ordained Sangha become a source of inspiration for others who are seeking spiritual solace.

When we offer items such as robes to the Sangha, our support for them creates the causes for the Dharma to remain. In making sincere offerings, we also create the causes for an abundance of spiritual and material wealth for ourselves.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

I invite you with faith, please come to this place!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Wow it is incredible to see that Kechara has the means to sponsor so greatly. Not too long ago this would not have been possible but Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings to the students and the persistent work for spreading Dharma has allowed this to happen. The sponsorship money is very important for Kechara to grow as it funds everything which is required to maintain Kechara so that everyone can work to spread the Dharma.

The Dharma is the most precious thing as it is a pathway to enlightenment and therefore the key to release us from all suffering. Therefore humble amounts of sponsorship that accumulates into a large offering like this, should be gladly and generously. From a personal perspective it is like trading in fake made up currency that is impermanent for non material currency that is very much real as it is the fuel to our Dharma practice, that is merits.

Feels really good to see Kechara making such vast offerings for the growth of the dharma and for the monks who are the lineage holders for Buddhism to have White Tara whose practice promises long life ad removal of obstacles with them.

May Kechara and Kecharians always be able to generate such wonderful deeds for the preservation and growth of the Buddha Dharma in our region.

The experience to the monastery was great. I was so happy and lucky to be part of this group to go for this pilgrimage trip and also offer these holy offerings to the Sangha members of the monastery.

I really thank Beng Kooi and her team for organising this trip making it possible for the group to go over. I would like to thank Rinpoche for allowing me to join this trip as well. It is just so nice to be doing such meritorious things. To be back in Rinpoche’s home, to be seeing for myself how the Dharma is truly being practiced by these holy monks.

Thank you Rinpoche for this chance.

    INTERESTING DEVELOPEMENT:

We have been informed by our friends in Dharamsala that the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA; the de facto head of Tibetans in Exile in India) that they have seen the vulgarities said in the name of being on the Dalai Lama’s defense. Many who can read English in Dharamsala have been horrified that their campaign against Shugden is leading to such vulgarities and attacks on Shugden followers personal lives. CTA had hoped to intimidate Shugden people to give up through fear and violence in the past, but it has worked against them as they represent Dalai Lama a Nobel peace prize winner. People are asking why Dalai Lama does not speak up against the hatred towards Shugden people? CTA in the past have kept quiet about the attacks on Shugden people both physical and verbal but now IT’S DIRECTLY BEING CONNECTED TO THEM which is bad PR. The more Dalai Lama supporters hurl abuses on line and it’s recorded, the more it will work against CTA.

The CTA visit this blog often to keep a watch. They are embarrassed by people who write such negatives and vulgarities now and engage in name-calling in the name of Buddhism and the Dalai Lama. It reflects terribly on them. They have been getting more negative response from people around the world and more queries. The press has been picking up on these types of verbal abuses hurled at Shugden people and find it justified and alerted to the fact something is seriously wrong. They are starting to question the CTA more which is embarrassing.

We will keep posting these vulgarities hurled at Shugden people online. This is what Shugden people have to tolerate daily. But you will see NO SUCH COMMENTS from Shugden people. I have friends who informed me they will also send this article’s link to press around the world and proper authorities to keep them alert. As violent vulgarities can escalate into violence against innocent Shugden practitioners.

You see the bottom line is all this name hurling and violent words can stop overnight if His Holiness Dalai Lama speaks up to stop it. Dalai Lama should send people to engage in dialogue to settle this matter once and for all. It would benefit everyone all around. This ban and advice against peaceful Shugden practitioners was started by Tibetan leadership. They should do something to stop it as they are responsible for every person they affect with this ban. The Tibetan leadership is responsible for every harm perpetrated or planned against Shugden practitioners both verbal, psychological and physical.

Do see the pictures here of the abuse but be ready for how unpleasant it could be: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=58841

It’s amazing, sometimes when you make a spiritual choice, some people can criticize and segregate you for it. As if your choice must be approved by them. If they don’t approve they have some mandate to tell you that you are wrong and also can be rude for your choice of faith. If you don’t pray to what they pray to, then your ‘god’ is a demon or something. How archaic. LOL. I find that amazing. LOL again. How can you come to my space, face and life and tell me my religion is wrong? I didn’t hurt anyone with my faith and I don’t intend to. Whatever others of my same faith are or are not doing is not me. So don’t bundle me up into the same package. I am me and they are them. Besides, I am more than my religion. There are many aspects of who I am. So don’t just look at my spiritual choice and summarize me. You don’t know me. And you don’t have to know me. Also I owe nothing to you. I don’t need your approval for my spirituality. I would love to be your friend but let’s not let our spiritual choice ever get in the way. Be modern, be today and accept who I am as I don’t hurt anyone. 🙂 So look at all parts of who I am but the bottom line is my spirituality is my choice, do not ever presume to comment, disparage, judge or even think anything about it. I eat what I want. I dress as I like. Live where I want. Befriend who I wish. Write what I like on my social media space and pray to whatever I feel is working for me. Full stop! 🙂 Thanks for letting me live my life as your opinion of it is not needed, requested or solicited and I say this with deepest respects to you.. Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

    NOTABLE COMMENT FROM TSEM RINPOCHE

For me, I have received teachings from H.H. the Dalai Lama and I still have to respect him as one of my lamas. It might be different for some of you who have not. But my approach must be respectful. Even if I didn’t have teachings from H.H. the Dalai Lama, would still approach him in a respectful manner. The advice against Dorje Shugden practice by His Holiness is hurting many people in fact millions. It’s creating discord, segregation and pain. Everything the Dalai Lama teaches is about compassion, tolerance and reconciliation and the Shugden practitioners deserve that too. I therefore, respectfully prostrating to the ground would ask H.H. the Dalai Lama to please send his ministers to talk to the leaders of the Shugden group and resolve this issue. I say all this with deepest respects. As a part Tibetan, I also wish His Holiness the best. Long live the Dalai lama. Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

  37. SG on Feb 5, 2015 at 9:18 am

Good teachers deserve good disciples and vice versa. Rinpoche is a testimony of this auspiciousness. May buddha’s sangha always thrive in the holy dharma and achieve those great levels of attainments. May suffering be a distant and unrecognisable word for all beings.

  38. tsemtulku on Jan 28, 2015 at 4:23 pm

Dorje Shugden followers in the millions will not abandon their practice. So it would be good if leaders of the Dorje Shugden practicing community met with the Tibetan leadership to work out something that will be a win-win situation for both sides. His Holiness Dalai Lama wants to meet the Chinese current leaders to resolve the Tibet issue. Why not meet the Shugden followers to resolve this issue too? Why forgive one ‘enemy’ and ignore another?~Tsem Rinpoche (Please read more here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=57431)

Thank you Rinpoche for consistently guiding and showing us the important values and virtues that we should inculcate in our lives !

The 34 pilgrims from Kechara, who went on this sacred trip to the holy monastery of Shar Gaden, must have collected tremendous merits to have been able to go on this pilgrimage. The 800 White Tara statues, offerings by the Kechara Board of Directors for Rinpoche’s long life, show the love and devotion they and Kecharians have for our precious Guru , Tsem Rinpoche. The offerings of the statues and books and robes , in turn, to the holy monks of Shar Gaden reflect a wealth of giving and kindness. Giving to the sangha collects tremendous merits.

The Pilgrims had the rare and treasured honour of having audience with great Masters, like Kensur Rinpoche Jetsun Lobsang Phende. It was truly a blessed pilgrimage.

I have been with Tsem Rinpoche on pilgrimage before to other holy places and temples. The generosity, love and care Rinpoche has unfailingly showered on all, including the monastics, young and old, wherever he goes, are always received with immense gratitude and deep appreciation by all the recipients.

The Namgyal Tsechog puja for Rinpoche’s life was performed very beautifully by the monks. It is truly blessed to be in the presence of monka, including the more senior ones, who have held their vows purely and practiced Guru Devotion purely for so many years. It is in the hands of the Sangha, who study the Dharma earnestly and then teach them with great skill and compassion, that the Dharma will be preserved and will endure.

May Tsem Rinpoche have long life and continue to tun the wheel of Dharma to benefit countless beings. May all the sangha continue to uphold their vows and Guru Devotion purely . May the Lineage Teachings of Tsongkhapa continue to be upheld and to grow and spread and be preserved.

Rejoice to the group who went to this pilgrimage, such a meritorious deed to be able to make offerings to the Shar Ganden Monk, and also to Khensur Rinpoche and Domo Geshe Rinpoche.

From the photo can feel the joy and happiness of the monks at receiving the offering, especially when they read the Protector Comic book with focus 🙂 seeing Domo Geshe Rinpoche displaying Tsem Rinpoche show the respect of Domo Geshe Rinpoche had towards Tsem Rinpoche.

Thank You Beng Kooi for organizing the pilgrimage and offers the 800 White Tara statue to the Sangha at Shar Gaden to create the merits for Rinpoche long life.

Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing. It will be so wonderful if one day I have the opportunity to on the pilgrimage trip like this as well. May I have the merit go on the pilgrimage and able to offer the khata and statue to the lamas.

  54. Joy on Jan 20, 2015 at 10:10 pm

Rejoice in such wonderful meritorious deed! Wow what beautiful pictures and precious offerings we did to the sangha jewels of our pure lineage. Just looking at the pictures made me feel like as though I was also there making the offerings too. Can sense the atmosphere is filled with incense billowing and bleesing abound as everyone is feeling happy as well as gratification for being there to make such precious offerings. And to be able to give them each a Tara statue and protector comic book… wow!

Can see all the monks are so excited and can’t wait to read the comic book of our beloved protector. How fortunate we are to have this great opportunity, a privilege indeed to be able to give to the sangha like this and all thanks to our kind generous Guru for making this possible! Really really pray I will never be parted from the Buddha Dharma ever.

  55. Ronald on Jan 20, 2015 at 3:44 pm

Sorry if it’s offensive, but really out of curiosity. May I ask why the books about the protector to be printed out, seems to be Dorje Shugden instead of the Dharmapala Setrap? Is this OKAY?

    • Pastor David Lai on Jan 20, 2015 at 4:18 pm

      Dear Ronald,
Dorje Shugden and Dharmapala Setrap actually resides within the same mandala and are part of the 2 ‘blazing brothers’. Therefore, they are very close and connected to each other. Not being able to offer to the protector of our lineage is infringing on our religious freedom. Don’t you think? 🙂 🙂 🙂
P.S. The monks loved the comic books very much.

      • Ronald on Jan 20, 2015 at 7:22 pm

        Dear Pastor David,

Thank you for the reply. I am just very very curious. Does that mean Kechara and Tsem Rinpoche offer and regard Dorje Shugden as the Dharma Protector equally? Sorry if it sounds rude but I’m just curious to know. If Tsem Rinpoche regard the Dalai Lama is a great master and according to one of Rinpoche’s video saying HH Dalai Lama is accurate and right, and he follows his guidance. Then would it be offering and printing about the another protector D.S. is incorrect? As I know the Dalai Lama has stressed us not to offer this deity. Pastor David, hope you wont be offended by this question.

        Looking forward to your reply.

        Many thanks!

            Dear Pastor,

I guess I am kinda confused with the post. And I do recall this written by Tsem Rinpoche, when someone asked Him regarding the practice of D.S.

I do want to practice Shugden also. Thanks. But I don’t have the courage to practice because of the ban, I might be threatened and hurt. Dalai Lama says there is no ban, but his advice will hurt many people as there are so many fanatical followers who will threaten and hurt those who oppose Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama can stop all this by saying to everyone, don’t hurt Shugden practitioners as they are humans too and they deserve equal rights. But he doesn’t. See what I am saying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1421782837&v=5ZuNNNHC2E0&x-yt-cl=84359240

I guess I’ll stop asking these questions as I do not want to offend anyone. But I thought I bring some thoughts to everyone and how contradictory this might seem. If I write this here, you can think for yourself. I like to stir controversy. I am from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Many thanks!

When is khecharian traveling to dharma salary to offer a prayer to his holiness the Dalai lama

    • Sarah Yap on Jan 25, 2015 at 8:55 pm

      Dear Ronald,

Thank you for asking these questions. When we ask questions, that is where we can learn more.

The issue surrounding Dorje Shugden is actually a rather political one. As a Buddhist practitioner, politics is not my focus. On top of that, since I am a foreigner (which is, I’m not Tibetan), then these Tibetan politics should not be an issue to me. Anyway, I don’t want to talk about politics here since it is not very respectful on Rinpoche’s blog.

But on a spiritual level, I follow what my teacher teaches. And if my teacher teach us to be harmonious, not to criticize and discriminate people’s belief, then that is my practice. Please understand, that the majority of people in Kechara have NEVER gotten teachings from the Dalai Lama. We respect Him as a great holy master in Buddhism, but we have no spiritual relationship with him. Our spiritual lineage masters are H.H. Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang and H.H. Kyabje Zong Dorje Chang… and of course Rinpoche.

Also I never understood why people make this such a huge issue in the first place. Dharmapalas are here to assist us in our practice… it is a minor practice and on top of that it should be a private practice, as traditionally done. But if there are people that wish to cause problems for us just because of our loyalty to H.H. Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang’s spiritual lineage, then all I can say is that… I will never give up this lineage and will continue practicing no matter what. I will continue to practice the Dharma, and if by a rare case harm would befall me (which I highly doubt since I’m not Tibetan)… then that is their negative karma.

      Hope this answers your question.

    • Choong on Oct 28, 2016 at 11:18 am

      Dear Ronald,

In case you missed this, HH Dalai Lama has now said that you may practise. May you have success!

It is always such a honour and privilege to be able to make offerings to the Sangha, a virtuous group of people who give their lives to preserve and study the 2,600 year old teachings of Shakymuni Buddha in order that in this distracting and degenerating era, we sentient being may still have the opportunity to know and be introduced to the Holy Dharma and Buddhism.

The trip to Shar Ganden was very joyful for me to know how much dedications been made to have our Lineage preserved to serve us in our life.

I thank Beng Kooi and her team for organising this trip and Rinpoche for giving us this opportunity for such a meritorious act.

May the Dharma always touch our lives.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.

I must thank my dharma blog team who are great assets to me, Kechara and growth of dharma in this wonderful region. I am honoured and thrilled to work with them. I really am. Maybe I don't say it enough to them, but I am saying it now. I APPRECIATE THESE GUYS VERY MUCH!

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
