His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama with Chairman Mao Zedong |

His Holiness the Great 10th Panchen Lama, Chairman Mao Zedong and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama meeting in Beijing. |

Every single day now I look forward very much to the day coming soon where the disappointing ban against the World Peace Buddha Protector Dorje Shugden will be over. It will be soon as I have been told by many extraordinary people I’ve met recently. Everything the Tibetan leadership has said against the Dorje Shugden practice has not made any sense. At first it sounded good, but as time goes on, educated people are examining their claims and coming to the conclusion it does not make sense. More are speaking out. Any government or leader should never criticise or ‘advise’ against any religious faith, path or practice. It is politically wrong not to mention it infringes on our religious freedom. It could set a dangerous trend that any leader or government can suddenly ‘ban’ any religion or spiritual path. This is wrong and against the freedom we deserve as a citizen of a free country and free world. If you don’t like a certain religious path, you keep it to yourself and not announce it publicly disappointing many. It is not democratic, astute or beneficial to the charters of freedom enshrined in advanced nations. What is important is to look at the person not their skin colour, race, religion or economic background. Religious apartheid must be removed even in the ‘advices’ we give others. We must give full respect to all religious faith regardless of our personal opinions. This is the way of a democratic society. The Dalai Lama now should stop speaking and giving ‘advice’ against Shugden in his public talks as it has brought no benefit and we want the Dalai Lama’s spiritual activities to grow. Previous ‘advice’ against Dorje Shugden should be retracted. It’s like President Obama speaking out against witchcraft in favour of ‘pure’ Christianity whenever he is at a public gathering. Obama must respect all religions as enshrined in the democratic US constitution and he does. It would help the Dalai Lama to follow the examples of other leaders in the free world with regards to religious freedom. Perhaps the Dalai Lama is not advised well by his close advisors on this issue. Tibet has not much information or exposure on this as they have been very isolated. It will benefit the Dalai Lama more to accept Dorje Shugden on many levels. Buddhism will stay pure with Dorje Shugden ‘inducted’ into it’s pantheon of practices. Buddhist countries all over the world in the last 2,500 years have absorbed local practices and spiritual beings into the Pantheon of Buddhism they follow which is unique to their country. Politically, spiritually and democratically better for the Dalai Lama to accept Shugden. With Shugden people behind the Dalai Lama, he will have more friends and supporters.

In Malaysia we are blessed with a government that allows us religious freedom and for that I am thankful. So the Dorje Shugden issue should not be brought to Malaysia and Malaysian Buddhists have the right to explore the practice of Dorje Shugden without interference from any outside governments or outside religious authorities. This is enshrined in our Malaysian charter. This should apply to every other nation led by a democratic government also. A Buddhist Malaysian has the right to practice or worship Dorje Shugden if they so choose without any politics even from other Malaysians I gently remind. Our Malaysian government does not get involved with the Tibet issue and they believe that Tibet is a part of China. Malaysia-China relations have grown tremendously benefitting both countries economically. I am happy to see this and may Malaysia continue to grow. So if we live in Malaysia, we have to respect this special economic relationship that our government of Malaysia and China has forged. Malaysia is my home and therefore I must respect the views of the government representing the public here. Malaysian government does its best for its citizens and I must respect this as Malaysia has been kind to me in so many ways. When we are overtly supportive of the Dalai Lama or have his photo everywhere or do open celebrations about him, it is not disallowed at all but sometimes it can create a difficult situation for the Malaysian government we have been gently reminded. I do not wish to create difficulties for them. This is not Malaysia’s problem but a issue between the Dalai Lama and China that needs to be resolved soon. The ball is on the Dalai Lama’s court as the saying goes. The Dalai Lama has not met face to face with Chinese leadership for over 50 years to discuss the Tibet issue. So we have to be respectful to the Chinese government. My respects for the Dalai Lama is for his Buddhist learning and mastery which is free of any Geo-political issues or general politics full stop. I wish very much the Dalai Lama would do his utmost best to meet with the Chinese leadership regardless of their ‘demands’ or what has happened in the past. The Dalai Lama may have moral authority, but the great nation of China has economic might among many other attractive qualities to the secular world. Most nations if not all will be attracted to economics wouldn’t you think? Sometimes in life it’s not about what is wrong or right as it should be, but what needs to be done. We have to leap forward now. China is a great nation, with one of the longest ancient cultures spanning over 5,000 years, and her social-cultural-economic emergence is obvious in the world. To respect China and becoming her friend would accomplish more for everyone and changes in China we may wish to see. Everyone is rushing to make relations with China. We have to respect the powerhouse China is. Therefore I do not presume to give any advice to the Dalai Lama but I do hope he will meet with the Chinese government soon. Being friends with Western governments is good, but Tibet is not in the West, but in China. So the Dalai Lama should focus on China. In general, I do not get involved with politics. But these are some of my thoughts that came up this morning. I wish China and Dalai Lama well.

World Peace Dharma protector and Buddha Dorje Shugden |

I wish China growth, awareness and spirituality. I wish China to find her cultural roots as well as her spiritual roots along with economic growth. China plays a very important role in world economics, peace and general direction. She is a great nation with great people. I wish the Dalai Lama long life and also his situation always be perfect. I wish he can see his homeland Tibet soon and that he will also lift the ban against Dorje Shugden followers who have suffered tremendously. Even if he says there is no ban, his public speeches in the form of ‘advice’ against Shugden practice has huge negative ramifications and effects. I respectfully with folded hands, request him to stop speaking in this manner and to meet the Shugden community leaders to eradicate this horrible situation in which more than four million Shugden followers are segregated. I request for him to remove from the ‘wanted list’ the prominent Tibetans who are on his Central Tibetan Administration’s website as they are made out to be criminals which they are not. Placing their pictures for protesting against the ban seems archaic and medieval, almost inciting the public against them. All negative writings against Dorje Shugden on Dalai Lama’s personal website should be removed as it stains his good image making him look not open to religious freedom. May the Dalai Lama please meet with Shugden leaders and resolve this in a win-win situation for both sides. Whenever there is conflict and one side wishes to meet the other and resolve, then the leaders should make every concerted effort to do so. If a leadership can remove the sufferings of even one citizen, they should as they have the power of office and responsibility to do so. China, the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden all can be in the same world working with each other for the betterment of this planet. This is the way it should be and can be and will be. I wish the Dalai Lama will make this happen sooner as it’s in his hands now to do so.

May all religions, faiths and forms of spirituality be respected by everyone in this world so it can contribute to world peace. May all secular and spiritual leaders safeguard this freedom which is the right of every citizen on this planet.

I do pray for the government of our own Malaysia to be healthy, to continue to flourish. I am blessed to be here for many reasons. I pray for Malaysia to be at peace and grow economically as well as the rest of the world. I wish this for every nation on earth.

Dorje Shugden is a protecting deity who has been worshipped throughout history by several schools in Tibetan Buddhism. Many highly attained scholars, Lamas from the Fifth Dalai Lama, Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas throughout history have worshipped Dorje Shugden. In Tibetan Buddhism, Dorje Shugden is considered to be the protector of Je Tsongkhapa’s pure dharma.
The Dorje Shugden controversy will soon be over as what was said against the Dorje Shugden practice has not made any sense. Religious freedom should be allowed with respect regardless of faith and personal views. After all these years the Dalai Lama finally did mention that we can practice . As many people realised the benefits of relying on the practice and Dorje Shugden is not an evil. All of us have the right to explore the practice of Dorje Shugden without interference from any outside religious authorities. May the Dalai Lama have a dialogue meeting with Shugden leaders and resolve once for all.
May all religions, faiths and forms of spirituality be respected by all for the sake of world peace. China is a great and powerful nation, where every countries in the world would like to have peace and dialogue with.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing of Dalai Lama , China and Dorje Shugden.

Religion should not come into politics as it is not one religion among other. These two should not mixed together or the results would be catastrophic To these days religion and politics seem to be all mixed up. It is happening to the present day where the Tibetan Leadership is against the Dorje Shugden practice. Its far too long the Dorje Shugden controversy been going on which is unnecessary and illogical causing sufferings, disharmony , discrimination and so forth among practitioners and non-practitioners. The Tibetan people should be given religious freedom to practise how and what they want. The Dalai Lama who promotes peace and harmony should do more to help those affected by the ban and not specking against them causing confusion. Hopefully the previous advice against Dorje Shugden should be retracted for the sake of a peace and harmony. It would be wonderful if Dalai Lama could have discussion with the Chinese leadership to solve the present problems once for all. China is a great and powerful nation, it would be good to have a good closer relationship . May Dalai Lama live long and back to his homeland Tibet soon. And may Dalai Lama lift the ban against Dorje Shugden .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Mantras are sacred verbalized words that invoke the protection and blessings of the deity to whom the mantra is ascribed. Mantras are also the manifestations of Buddhas in the form of ‘sounds’, hence the various mantras of Dorje Shugden contain the essence of the Protector.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is in Dharamsala, which is broken into two parts. Upper Dharamsala is where the Dalai Lama’s palace is located with his audience room and main prayer hall. It is also the location of the Dialectics School, Gaden Shartse’s guesthouse, restaurants, tourist hotels and main tourist areas.

A short ride down takes you to the lower part of Dharamsala where the Tibetan government is located. It is the location of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Nechung monastery, the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, the Tibetan arts centre…it’s all in one area. And the reason why it’s split into upper and lower Dharamsala is because the area is mountainous.

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives was established by the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government to preserve all the ancient texts – both secular and spiritual – of Tibet and in the process, translate them into various languages like English. This book, Overview of Buddhist Tantra, by Panchen Sonam Drakpa was one of the books translated into English. What’s very interesting is that the book very clearly says that Panchen Sonam Drakpa’s previous life is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, one of the five main disciples of Lama Tsongkhapa. It also says that after that, he was Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen.

So the book is basically saying that Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, Panchen Sonam Drakpa and Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen – the three Drakpas – are of the same mindstream.

Now that’s very peculiar because if Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen’s previous life is Panchen Sonam Drakpa, the renowned composer of 45 volumes of Dharma texts, the abbot of three monasteries AND the 15th Gaden Tripa, the holder of Lama Tsongkhapa’s throne…if that’s the case, how can Panchen Sonam Drakpa take rebirth as Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen and become an evil spirit and have a negative mind?

Prior to Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, he was Panchen Sonam Drakpa and before that, he was Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, a heart disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa. How can a heart disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa reincarnate as the erudite master Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and then die and reincarnate as Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen…and then Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, due to a bad and negative prayer, become the evil spirit Dorje Shugden? How is that possible? Logically, it’s not.

What’s incredible is that all of this was printed by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives under the Dalai Lama’s guidance. They contradict themselves because on one hand, the Tibetan leaders say Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit. On the other hand they’re printing a book saying that Panchen Sonam Drakpa, whose later incarnation became Dorje Shugden, is of this illustrious mindstream.

So how can the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, which is under the auspices of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government, print the translation of a book composed by the previous incarnation of a so-called evil spirit? How can they then say in the book that Panchen Sonam Drakpa’s previous life is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, and his next life was Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen?

Prior to the Dorje Shugden ban and controversy, everyone in Tibet knew that Dorje Shugden is Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, that Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen is Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and that Panchen Sonam Drakpa is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen. The three Drakpas, they are one mindstream emanating again and again to benefit other beings.

And as we all know, Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen became Dorje Shugden so it totally doesn’t make sense to call him an evil spirit, then highlight all of his previous lives as erudite masters, and publish all of this information under their own library. So you can see the contradictions. You can read all of this for yourself in Overview of Buddhist Tantra, which was printed by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.

    OVERVIEW OF BUDDHIST TANTRA

GENERAL PRESENTATION OF THE CLASSES OF TANTRA,
CAPTIVATING THE MINDS OF THE FORTUNATE ONES

rgyud sde spyi’i rnam par bzhag pa

    BY
    PANCHEN SONAM DRAGPA
    (Pan-chen bSod-nams grags-pa, 1478-1554)

    O Choje Sonam Dragpa Pel! (Chos-rje bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal!)
In the vast expanse of Your bodhi-mind,
The mind that the Buddhas have lauded for as many as
    one hundred times,
You have developed “merit” shining like the sun.
Through Your skill in learning, debate and writing,
As illuminating as one hundred thousand sun rays,
You have developed in You a complete knowledge of
    the entire sutras and tantras,
Resembling a garden of flowers in full bloom.
    The power of Your speech is like the sun;
The fame of your name has reached the three realms of
    this world.
O Sonam Dragpa, the teacher of teachers!
I bow down at your feet.

In the vast garden of Your great teachings,
The intelligent young people gather for
The ‘six ultimates’ and the ‘four modes of transmission,’
Just as they are attracted to
The one hundred thousand types of nectar
Dripping from a flower of one hundred petals.
May I be able to experience
The taste of the secret tantra!

Panchen Choje Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen Chos-rje bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal), the holder of sutra and Vajrayana teachings, was a master whose outstanding learning and spiritual accomplishments are well known by all the learned ones in Tibet. His first incarnation came in the form of one of the five prestigious disciples of Lord Tsongkhapa (Tsong-kha-pa) and became known as Vinaya Holder (Dulzin) Dragpa Gyaltsen (Gragspa rgyal-mtshan). Then came Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal), the author of the present text. The next was Nagri Tulku Dragpa Gyaltsen (mNga’-ris sPrul-sku Grags-pa rgyal-mtshan). In this way, a line of his incarnations, each with the Dragpa (gragspa) surname, followed successively.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) was born in the 14th century in Tsetang (rTsed-thang) in the Lhoka (Lho-kha) region of Central Tibet. He entered the great seat of learning, Sera Thekchenling (Se-ra theg-chen-gling) monastic university, where he became the personal disciple of spiritual master Donyo Dangden (Dhon-yod dang-ldan) and His Holiness the Second Dalai Lama Gedun Gyatso (dGe-‘dun rgya-mtsho). Under them, he studied the entire teachings of sutra, tantra and their commentaries, and became known for his outstanding learning. He also received from them the empowerments, reading transmissions, guides and instructions of the entire body of spiritual training. On becoming the fully blessed one, the Dalai Lama appointed him the abbot of the Loseling (Blo-gsalgling) college, one of the four colleges of Drepung (‘Bras-dpung)- the most prestigious monastic university in Tibet before 1959, with over 10,000 monks on its register. He continued to be the abbot of this college for the next six years; and after him the tenure for each of his successors in this position was fixed for a period of six years, a rule that is followed even today.

He was then appointed the head of the Gelugpa (dGe-lugs-pa) order, the throne holder of Gaden (dGa’-ldan), thus becoming the 15th regent of Lord Tsongkhapa (Tsong-khapa), the second Buddha. In his eulogy to him, Khedrub Gelek Pelsang (mKhas-grub dGe-legs dpal- bzang) says:

O Lama, the second successor of the Unsubduable One,
The regent of the Lord of Dharma,
    You are the one who made the virtuous qualities thrive;
You are the one who ascended to the golden throne uplifted
    by the fearless lions.
    May Your success thrive forever!

He continued to be the throne holder for the next seven years, during which time he promoted the spread of Lord Tsongkhapa’s (Tsong-kha-pa) precious teachings, the Gelug (dGe-lugs) tradition, across the land in all directions. He also paid special attention to the practice of monastic rules and the learning and meditation of Buddhism in the monasteries such as Sera (Se-ra), Drepung (‘Bras-spungs), Kyomolung (sKyo-mo-lung), Phagmo Chode (Phag-mo chos-sde), Nyeding (Nye-sdings), Ödna (’Od-sna) and Chöde Rinchen (Chos-sde rin-chen) etc. and improved them to a great extent. He taught the Third Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso (bSod-nams rGya-mtsho) as the latter’s spiritual master. It was from him that the Dalai Lama received the name Sonam (bSod-nams).

His contributions in the literary field are enormous; and, indeed, they are the most valuable of all his contributions. Tsongkhapa (Tsong-kha-pa) has rightly said:

    Of all one’s deeds,
The ‘deeds of speech’ are the most valuable.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) was a person with an extraordinary talent for teaching, debate and writing. In his colophon to Bu mey chi don zab don sel wey dron mey (dBu ma’i spyi don zab don gsal ba’i sgron me), he wrote:

In the field of teaching, I am [next to none!] Knowing that
I would outdo them in this field, Arya Asanga and his
    brother transmigrated into another realm.

In the field of debate, I am [next to none!] Knowing that
I would find out the areas they had contradicted and
that I would examine them and put forth my arguments,
the logician Dignaga (Digh-naga) and Dharmakirti tactfully
    bypassed me.

In the field of writing, I am [next to none!] [In my eyes,]
Arya-sura was just good at spreading the works, which
are like ‘disputes~ between an insect and a field.’

I am the learned man. Peerless in the field of teaching,
    debate and writing!

For some this passage might sound utterly nonsensical, but the most learned master of our age, the talented teacher, logician and writer, the late tutor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Yongdzin Trijang Dorjechang (Yongs-‘dzin Khri-byang rDorje-‘Chang), said: “Now, some people of our time, who consider themselves learned scholars, think that this is utter nonsense; but they are wrong.”

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) wrote over 45 volumes of books dealing with many different subjects, such as the commentaries on the sutras and tantras, the saddhana manuals of the tutelary deities, history, religious history and so forth. Among these, one that is very important for all who wish to learn and meditate on the path-of the practical aspect of Buddhism in general and that of Vajrayana in particular is the Leg shey gyu de chi nam par shagpa kelsang gi yi trod (Legs bshad rgyud sde spyi’i rnam par bzhag pa skal bzang gi yid ‘phrod). In this book, he has explained precisely how the four tantras differ from one another. He has also fully described the stages of the two spontaneous path practices of the Vajrayana tradition, dealing with the ‘six ultimates’ and the ‘four modes of transmission’, thus interpreting without mistake the intention of Adhi-Buddha Vajradhara.

May the reprint of this text, which the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is publishing herewith, bring peace and happiness in this world!

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 assistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

This is interesting, On 16 June 2018, CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay has congratulated Dr Tenzin Dorjee for being unanimously elected as the chair of the bipartisan US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). Details refer to the url link: http://tibet.net/2018/06/cta-president-congratulates-dr-tenzin-dorjee-on-being-elected-chair-of-u-s-commission-on-international-religious-freedom/

Talking about religious freedom, I hope that what has been said by CTA must be followed by the action.
No one wants to be separated from their families, no one wants to be segregated from their community and no one wants to be prohibited from entering a restaurant, shop, schools or hospital with one reason just because they are the practitioner of Dorje Shugden
All Tibetans wants is religious freedom, unity and peace
Hence, with folded hand, respectful and humble request to HHDL and CTA, please remove all the negativity statements about Dorje Shugden practice so that it will stop creating confusion among Tibetan and others. Lets resolve this issue once and for all by meeting and discussing, just like what all the countries leaders are doing, even the President of the United State, Mr Donald Trump and Mr Kim Jong Un hold historic meeting, so why not HHDL and Shugden leaders

The ban or what the Tibetan leaderships label as ‘advice’ not to engage with the spiritual and religious practice of Dorje Shugden is going on for decades. It has resulted in untold sufferings and hardships to Dorje Shugden practitioners in the Himalayan regions and around the globe. What Tsem Rinpoche wrote here is very good opinion and advice to the Tibetan leaderships, not just for moral reason but for humanitarian, social and economic reason too. The segregation of families and monasteries, the hurt and pain the ban has caused, has to end. Let peace prevail, allow growth on all levels to rise.

Tibet is part of China, this is an accepted fact by the Heads of States worldwide. I share Rinpoche’s voice to humbly request His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to lift the Dorje Shugden ban and embrace the 4 million Shugden practitioners with compassion. 20 years of sufferings from the ban imposed by CTA is terribly long and should be resolved immediately. CTA is not about to resolve this issue nor the Dalai Lama’s wish for dialogue with China as they have their own agenda to be fulfilled due to their dependency on comfortable sponsorship of millions from Western countries. As Rinpoche mentioned, the ball in His Holiness’ court and in my opinion, China has just as much if not more to offer His Holiness and the Tibetans in Exile. The first and foremost, Tibet is in China and it is the Chinese government who has the authority to negotiate for their return. Based on past historic relationships, religious or secular, the bond is still strong. I sincerely appeal to His Holiness to take this opportunity to meet with the Chinese officials on reconciliation for return home. Lifting of Dorje Shugden ban will see your support base increased by 4 million immediately. After all, enlightened Protector Dorje Shugden is not and never has been the real issue and this powerful protector had save His Holiness and many during the great escape to India, a documented fact.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing your thoughts and wishes which many of us share as well. May Lord Dorje Shugden’s glory be rightfully restored and may His Holiness the Dalai Lama be able to bring his people home soon.

Religion shouldn’t mixed with politics.,When it is mixed religion becomes ignored.Religious freedom should be allow and no government ever interferes in people’s personal choices of religion or speak against it.
In Malaysia we are blessed with a government that allows us religious freedom but not so in some countries like in Tibet,India and so forth.Whereby there is discrimination and segregation towards Shugden practitioners and denied services just because of their religion .As the Tibetan and many Dorje Shugden practitioners.around the world had suffered tremendously due to the ban.
In a democratic society, full respect to all religious faith regardless of our personal opinions should be allowed. May the Dalai Lama ,China and Shugden leaders have a meeting to resolve the issue on the ban. May the Dalai Lama previous ‘advice’ against Dorje Shugden should be retracted soon.
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

Political shouldn’t link with religion. I do support Lifting of Dorje Shugden ban doesn’t mean I disrespect to Dalai Lama or I support China.I am a newbie in Tibetan Buddhism and I am very annoying with ban and it caused many Tibetan Dorje Shugden (DS)practitioners lived in sufferings.
Why many Dalai Lama followers keep link DS practitioners with China? We practiced DS not because of any political benefit but this is part of our lineage which been practiced by many fame lama (included Dalai Lama himself). Many people keep asking why not we abandon DS and rely on others Dharma protector which is less controversy. In Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Devotion is playing a key role in order for us to achieve great attainment and DS practice was confer to my Guru,Tsem Tulku Rinpoche so we have to practice DS as a student or deciple of Rinpoche.
In facts, the prosecution done by Dalai Lama follower is baseless. I plea to Dalai Lama, please lift the DS ban and we want religious freedom and we love Dalai Lama. May DS ban lift soon to benefits more sentient beings in this world.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

Robes of a monk, crown adorned with rhinoceros leather hat,
Right hand holds ornate club, left holds a human heart,
Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!

    Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

When any leadership gets involved in any religious matters, it creates segregation because with opinions comes segregation and bias. With Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Leadership advising against the practice of Dorje Shugden, it has undoubtedly caused much more damage on its people than anything else.

His Holiness has given the reasons in his “advice” (but really, it is a ban) against Shugden that it harms the Tibetan’s movement for freedom, and it decreases the life of His Holiness.

These two reasons alone are not enough to justify the suffering of 4 million practitioners worldwide.

    1. It does NOT harm any Tibetan movement because that is dependant on the Leadership. If the leadership fails to achieve or succeed in their plans, they cannot make religion, or in this case a religious practice, a scapegoat for it because it is always down to the people to make things happen. NOT religion. So mixing religion into the whirlwind of political arena is not right, or justifiable in any way.

    2. Since the ban on Shugden practice, it has been 20 years, but the many who stopped the practice, and the Tibetan leadership itself, could not and has not changed a thing. What they want is a free Tibet, but the situation remains. So banning Dorje Shugden practice is not logical and the practice does nothing to hinder any political movements or movements for freedom for Tibet. 20 years on the ban on Shugden is enough “proof” that these two matters are not intertwined nor dependant on one another.

    3. His Holiness himself is an emanation of Chenresig. How can practicing Dorje Shugden harm his life in any way, when His Holiness has the attainments to control his own winds/lifespan/health etc? For example, it is well known that His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche had manifested severe sickness and many thought his time was up. Many offered long life prayers, and also a request for HH Zong Rinpoche not to pass until the incarnation of His Holiness Trijang Rinpoche is found and after that, HH Zong Rinpoche was as if he did not have any illness whatsoever.

So to claim that the practice of Dorje Shugden harms the life of the Dalai Lama is absurd.

Like what is written above, I hope to see peace between all parties in the near future.

Justin Trudeau, the new Canada Prime Minister was asked to name the nation he most admired a couple of years ago and, his answer was “China.” And his explanation? “Their basic dictatorship,” he explained, “is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime.”

And YEP, that is China in this era, where the rest of the countries are now racing to be good relationship with her. With the grand & out of the norm reception United Kingdom had for President Xi last year was already a telling sign how important bilateral trade with China is. And the Tibetan Leadership should follow.

What the Tibetan leadership aka Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is heading towards in the policies and religious freedom rights is like a bigger disaster waiting to happen. I do hope it will be soon that they turn around and for a start listen to our appeal in lifting the ban on Dorje Shugden.

  26. Sock Wan on Jun 6, 2016 at 10:30 pm

The Dorje Shugden ban has created a lot of sufferings to the Tibetan people, many family and friends are separated because of the ban. One has to give up Dorje Shugden in order to receive assistance or benefits such as medical or education from the Tibetan leadership. Not only that, some high lamas such as H.H Trijang Rinpoche, H.H Pabongkha Rinpoche have to stay low profile so that their lives will not be at risk. They cannot go back to their monastery to give teachings to the monks as a result many precious teachings are not able to pass down, it is such a pity.

Wishing the ban to be lifted has got nothing to do with pro-Chinese or anti-Dalai Lama. I am just a Buddhist practitioner, I don’t like to see how people suffer because of the ban and the many conflicts among them. As a Buddhist, I wish for harmony and respect for everyone.

I sincerely thank Rinpoche for sharing this article. This article will definitely make everyone think and make the right decision for the betterment of the world. Everyone have their rights to choose the religion they want and to practice what they want or what was given to them by their Guru.

Why create hate and anger? Don’t we want world peace? Don’t we want less sufferings?

With folded palms, I do hope that Dalai Lama will lift the ban very soon so that the sufferings of the people who are involved will end soon.

    Thank you.

Thank you for sharing this article. This is the reality now that Dorje Shugden practitioners are being segregated due to no religious freedom. Dorje Shugden practitioners have been suffering and many are speaking out against the ban. More and more people are raising questions into the Central Tibetan Government (CTA)’s ban. There are many reasons showing the ban is unnecessary and most of all, causing harm to all let alone causing confusion on Buddhism. I agree with Rinpoche that we are very fortunate to be living in Malaysia because the government was not affected by this Dorje Shugden issue and we are able to follow a religion of our choice. May the ban be lifted very soon for the benefit of all especially Tibetans.

  31. William Chua on Jun 6, 2016 at 9:41 pm

Religion is a very personal choice and everyone should have their own freedom to choose what they want to practice. So, by imposing a ban on Dorje Shugden, the Dalai Lama is restricting this freedom to his people and caused difficulties to them. The Tibetan government is restricting its people from freedom of practice but the Chinese government is encouraging its people to discover their culture and have spiritual growth. In this way, we can see that China is more liberal and letting its people have a more balanced life instead of chasing money all the time.

The fight continues peacefully to plead to the Dalai Lama to lift the ban.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for sharing this article. In Malaysia we treasure religion freedom very much. It is a basic human right and nobody should have the authority to criticize any other religion or belief system. This can only end in a very nasty way.

Non-Shugden practitioners should respect Shugden practitioners. We are one big Buddhist family that have the same goal and learn the same Dharma from the same Buddha Shakyamuni. Just because I practice Dorje Shugden and you don’t, does that make me less of a Buddhist? This discrimination and segregation against Shugden followers makes no sense and any logical human being would have a civilized way to react to it without the use of harsh and vulgar actions, verbally and physically.

    Humbly,
    Chris

The mark of a nation that has freedom for its people and practices democracy one way would be, people are allowed to practice what they choose without fear of retribution from the government. They will not loose their jobs by doing what they like, not threatened , harassed, people hurl abuses at them and so forth, such a place is Malaysia.

I also agree that for the sake of the Tibetan people and causes better to befriend China at this time, like it or not Chinese economy is the largest in the world they have recently surpassed even the US.

    INTERESTING DEVELOPEMENT:

We have been informed by our friends in Dharamsala that the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA; the de facto head of Tibetans in Exile in India) that they have seen the vulgarities said in the name of being on the Dalai Lama’s defense. Many who can read English in Dharamsala have been horrified that their campaign against Shugden is leading to such vulgarities and attacks on Shugden followers personal lives. CTA had hoped to intimidate Shugden people to give up through fear and violence in the past, but it has worked against them as they represent Dalai Lama a Nobel peace prize winner. People are asking why Dalai Lama does not speak up against the hatred towards Shugden people? CTA in the past have kept quiet about the attacks on Shugden people both physical and verbal but now IT’S DIRECTLY BEING CONNECTED TO THEM which is bad PR. The more Dalai Lama supporters hurl abuses on line and it’s recorded, the more it will work against CTA.

The CTA visit this blog often to keep a watch. They are embarrassed by people who write such negatives and vulgarities now and engage in name-calling in the name of Buddhism and the Dalai Lama. It reflects terribly on them. They have been getting more negative response from people around the world and more queries. The press has been picking up on these types of verbal abuses hurled at Shugden people and find it justified and alerted to the fact something is seriously wrong. They are starting to question the CTA more which is embarrassing.

We will keep posting these vulgarities hurled at Shugden people online. This is what Shugden people have to tolerate daily. But you will see NO SUCH COMMENTS from Shugden people. I have friends who informed me they will also send this article’s link to press around the world and proper authorities to keep them alert. As violent vulgarities can escalate into violence against innocent Shugden practitioners.

You see the bottom line is all this name hurling and violent words can stop overnight if His Holiness Dalai Lama speaks up to stop it. Dalai Lama should send people to engage in dialogue to settle this matter once and for all. It would benefit everyone all around. This ban and advice against peaceful Shugden practitioners was started by Tibetan leadership. They should do something to stop it as they are responsible for every person they affect with this ban. The Tibetan leadership is responsible for every harm perpetrated or planned against Shugden practitioners both verbal, psychological and physical.

Do see the pictures here of the abuse but be ready for how unpleasant it could be: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=58841

Its funny how these ‘practitioners’ forget their ‘wisdom n compassion’ in times of strive. How unstable the mind can be and certainly shows how difficult n far the stretch of path to Enlightenment, even for those who proclaimed themselves ‘devote students’ of HHDL. Thank you Rinpoche for showing me what importance equiminity play in our practise. May HHDL bless us with the lifting of the ban on Lord Dorge Shugden’s practise soon, to end so much suffering inflicted physically n mentally. I shudder at all the karmic consequences that this ban had caused.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you so much for this article on Dorje Shugden, Dalai Lama and China. This article has made me understand even more about the ban between this three parties. Personally, what i feel is that this ban is to benefit more people from China who practices it as the population in China is more than Tibet. From what i know, and I’m not sure whether this is right or not, China and Tibet doesn’t have a good relationship for many years. So, i guess by banning the practice of Dorje Shugden this allow many people around the world to practice it. As Dorje Shugden’s practice is very powerful, His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama use this as a tool to help benefit more people other then just Tibet itself. Hence, I feel that the Dalai Lama is doing it right in a way.

May this issue be solved quickly between them and may everyone who’s suffering from the ban not suffer anymore.
Thank you again Rinpoche for this beneficial teachings.

It’s amazing, sometimes when you make a spiritual choice, some people can criticize and segregate you for it. As if your choice must be approved by them. If they don’t approve they have some mandate to tell you that you are wrong and also can be rude for your choice of faith. If you don’t pray to what they pray to, then your ‘god’ is a demon or something. How archaic. LOL. I find that amazing. LOL again. How can you come to my space, face and life and tell me my religion is wrong? I didn’t hurt anyone with my faith and I don’t intend to. Whatever others of my same faith are or are not doing is not me. So don’t bundle me up into the same package. I am me and they are them. Besides, I am more than my religion. There are many aspects of who I am. So don’t just look at my spiritual choice and summarize me. You don’t know me. And you don’t have to know me. Also I owe nothing to you. I don’t need your approval for my spirituality. I would love to be your friend but let’s not let our spiritual choice ever get in the way. Be modern, be today and accept who I am as I don’t hurt anyone. 🙂 So look at all parts of who I am but the bottom line is my spirituality is my choice, do not ever presume to comment, disparage, judge or even think anything about it. I eat what I want. I dress as I like. Live where I want. Befriend who I wish. Write what I like on my social media space and pray to whatever I feel is working for me. Full stop! 🙂 Thanks for letting me live my life as your opinion of it is not needed, requested or solicited and I say this with deepest respects to you.. Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

I too look forward to the day where this Shugden conflicts can be resolved peacefully by the Dalai Lama and Shugden Buddhists. Millions of Shugden Buddhist have endured 20 long years of suffering created by the illegal and illogical ban. The whole issue is damaging both to the image of the Dalai Lama who is regarded as the world peace icon and Buddhism as a peace loving religion. This religious apartheid is against humanity and abuses human rights. How is world peace possible without ethics? It is shocking that it is carried out by a man of peace and a world religious leader promoting, on a global platform, religious tolerance, patience and peace who also happened to be emanation of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. Why are Shugden Buddhists excluded from Chenrezig’s compassion? Like what the Dalai Lama has always preached around the world, conflicts should be resolved by dialogue. Hence I too join in prayers with Most Venerable Tsem Tulku Rinpoche that the Dalai Lama will accord Shugden Buddhists with the same principle as he has taught and grant dialogue to Shugden Buddhists without any delay to resolve the conflict.

Comment I like and inspires me from Tsem Rinpoche.

For me, I have received teachings from H.H. the Dalai Lama and I still have to respect him as one of my lamas. It might be different for some of you who have not. But my approach must be respectful. Even if I didn’t have teachings from H.H. the Dalai Lama, would still approach him in a respectful manner. The advice against Dorje Shugden practice by His Holiness is hurting many people in fact millions. It’s creating discord, segregation and pain. Everything the Dalai Lama teaches is about compassion, tolerance and reconciliation and the Shugden practitioners deserve that too. I therefore, respectfully prostrating to the ground would ask H.H. the Dalai Lama to please send his ministers to talk to the leaders of the Shugden group and resolve this issue. I say all this with deepest respects. As a part Tibetan, I also wish His Holiness the best. Long live the Dalai lama.

Hi… I’m confused.. If Dorje Shugden is a powerful dharma protector in clearing out obstacles, why hasn’t he cleared out this issue with the Dalai Lama? It’s been going on for years, How come the Dalai Lama hasn’t changed his mind? And didn’t the previous Trijang Rinpoche advocate Dorje Shugden practice but what does the current reincarnation of Trijang Rinpoche think? We don’t really hear much comments from him.

  44. Wendy Loh on Feb 4, 2015 at 5:44 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for writing this article, which I took time to digest because in reality democracy is nothing but a dramatic stage play. While I do love my country, Malaysia, it is not perfect and religious freedom is not entirely respected. Certain symbols of particular religions have been chastised by extremists and yet at the same time, citizens of different creeds and beliefs celebrate and work together quite effortlessly. Such is life in samsara, isn’t it? Things are constantly switching between positive and negative and our minds are pulled a long stirred by a variety of emotions. Most people respond and react based on past experiences that are no longer true today such as how the victim of a robbery believes that her assailant of a particular race is evil and so everyone from his community are crooks. Hence, a prejudice is formed and she will probably be biased until she realizes that her opinion is untrue, her anger unjustified.

Therefore, some Shugden practitioners protest and allege that the Dalai Lama is false and demand that the ban be lifted. They cry for religious freedom. Rinpoche hopes for a peaceful dialogue between the Dalai Lama and the Dorje Shugden followers and China. On the other hand, the Dalai Lama supporters are adamant with their stands. If we look at it objectively, we are all just operating, speaking, writing and talking from our own interpretation and judgment. Rinpoche and all the high lamas are merely showing and pointing it out for us to see, reflect and understand how our minds work.

When high lamas appear to be in conflict, it is a method employed to portray our confusion so that we will ask and learn or not. See how some replies here claim that Rinpoche suddenly no longer have the type of wisdom that they project and want Rinpoche to have, it demonstrates our very state of mind and our habituation.

We need to be astute and vigilant in making our choices and going all the way with it because the first debate we need to have is not with others but with ourselves. If we can win the devil inside of us, then, that which is outside would not bother us any longer.

Thank you, Rinpoche for this valuable teaching.

    With folded hands,
    Wendy

  45. Datuk May on Feb 2, 2015 at 1:42 pm

The middle way is the solution to most conflicts. Middle way is the awareness of conflicting parties’ needs and then communicate, negotiate and find the way to a compromise or meeting at a point acceptable to all parties.

It is hard to understand why HH Dalai Lama is unable to meet face to face with China and Shugden worshippers to find a way whereby suffering would end.

Politics and religions should not mix. Leadership is not about banning or stopping people to practise but rather making sure that the people under this leadership is all well and happy. Religious practise of Dorje Shugden has been on for 400 years and nobody had been harmed.

Not being able to regain Tibet had been a thorn for Dalai Lama and his continuous methods are not producing results, so is it convenient to blame someone else or better to change His methods.

Leaders of China had changed many times, but the constant is the Dalai Lama on the other side, therefore it is good to ask whose stand needs to be reconsidered.

    Om Mani Padme Hum..

I have deep respect for you – your wisdom and compassion you have for sentient beings. However your views of Dorje Shugden, rightly or wrongly is not in accordance to Tibetan Buddhist practice. You are ordained by HH Dalai Lama and he is your root guru. By propitiating D
S against his instruction is breaking your samaya – that is good enough to send you to Hell for countless eons.

Thats my view..and for your views that you have in DS, I have my reservations now on your Wisdom.

    • Sheldon on Feb 1, 2015 at 3:02 am

Maybe the DS spirit has taken over some sentient beings and now don’t see clearly any more.

I saw an interview with the Dalai Lama where he told the interviewer that his gurus were wrong in the practice of Dorje Shugden. so that must also mean that he has broken his Samaya with his gurus. Therefore not a qualified spiritual guide anymore.

  52. Jampa Lhamo on Jan 31, 2015 at 6:32 am

With all due respect I think Rinpoche is a little confused because there really is no ban on the practice. As you well know there are several large and flourishing Shugden monasteries in India and Nepal where the monks can practice as they like.

Likewise individuals are free to do as they wish although His Holiness has said very clearly he does not want a spiritual relationship with people who worship Shugden.

This is all very well known so why do you pretend otherwise?

In the past you clearly stated you did not practice Shugden and publicly proclaimed your support of His Holiness on this issue – now it seems you have been lying to everyone and following Shugden all the time. Isn’t this dishonest and deceptive behavior? What happened to right speech, aren’t monks supposed to set a good example?

Another thing I want to ask is whether you have discussed this with the current incarnation of your teacher Zong Rinpoche?

If not why not and if so what did he say?

The reason I think this is an important question is because many of us have received tantric initiations from (previous) Zong Rinpoche and yet have no difficulty following His Holiness’s advice.

    Why can’t Rinpoche let go?

For someone who understands dependent arising and the changeability of all things there should be no conflict or contradiction.

When everything turns into dogmatism, guru devotion and other stuff like that loses any value.

You are right. Under the influence of fanaticism and dogmatism many people have turned guru devotion into cult-like guru worship.

1- Tsem Rinpoche’s root guru is Zong Rinpoche, not the DL.
2- the risk of incorrect reliance applies to followers of both sides of the argument. If you say that sincere Shugden practitioners practice reliance incorrectly, you must say the same about the followers of the DL.

Dear everyone, His Holiness Dalai Lama says to kick out monks from the monasteries who do not listen. I was so surprised at this short speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS6hq5HJNik

On February 5, US President Barack Obama will deliver remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, to which His Holiness the Dalai Lama has also been invited to appear.

“The President is a strong supporter of the Dalai Lama’s teachings and preserving Tibet’s unique religious, cultural and linguistic traditions,” said National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan Meehan.

We are blessed to be living in Malaysia that is multicultural and multiracial, we really appreciate the the religious freedom we have here. It is sad to see that in this time and age, there is still persecution and ban on religious practice.

Mixing politics and religions is a recipe for disaster as it create chaos and split the community. Secular decision cannot be enforce onto spirituality as both motives are different.

it would be great to see Dalai Lama, China and Dorje Shugden working together. Hope that the issue surround China -Tibet will end with both side in a win win situation, same goes to Dalai Lama & CTA – Dorje Shugden to clear the confusion misunderstanding on the ban which is enforce with so many flaws in its excuse.

This article was interesting and i agree with you that HH the Dalai Lama, Dorje Shugden and China should be working together and all religions should be respected worldwide.

Thank you for sharing this post.

It does not matter for me who is right and wrong. Many Shudgen practitioner will go on protesting and commenting bad about HHDL wrong decision. If HHDL is a fake one as what Shudgen practitioner is commenting, is basically means the whole gelugpa lineage is fake and wrong. Dear Rinpoche, if you can talk to DS to ask his practioner to stop protesting, because it does not bring any meaning.

    • Miri on Jan 31, 2015 at 9:49 pm

Actually the protests have great meaning. For example: many tibetans have quietly thanked the ISC for the protests, it gives them courage to see that it is possible to stand up for one’/ rights without being thrown into a dungeon / tortured / killed and the number of tibetans joining and speaking out publicly is increasing. Likewise, through the western public are beginning to take notice that something is wrong, that not all is well in the Buddhist communities, this would not be happening if it weren’t for the protests. The western public is beginning to see past the smokescreen that the instigators and supporters of the ban have created and continue to maintain ever more desperately. The only person who can stop the protests is the Dalai Lama, the Shugden practitioners will not go back into obscurity without a resolution. So let’s indeed hope the leaders of both sides will soon talk for a win-win solution – the shugden practitioners are waiting for the dialog to happen, more than ready and willing to move on.

  57. shelly tai on Jan 30, 2015 at 9:05 pm

Dear Rinpoche thank you for sharing this post, is indeed right for DalaiLama and all the world leader to create a win win situation for religion practice we human should help each others not making havoc to each others by doing so then we can create world peace.

  58. Li Kheng on Jan 30, 2015 at 6:17 pm

Dharma practice is a personal choice and a public practice. Meaning: what we choose to pray to is personal and we do not need public approval or “ratings” for it. We make a choice based on our affinity to a practice and belief. As no one should judge our religious choice or restrict that freedom, we should never impose our judgements on others. In other words, Dharma practice is public. We pursue spirituality to better ourselves as a person. All the dharma learnt is intended to be practiced on everyone without discrimination or condition. That is what we call equanimity.

Religious freedom by legislation has reached a new level of tolerance. For example, voodoo that was once considered taboo is not recognized and permitted. The Dalai Lama himself took a similar stance by recognizing the Bon practice. Therefore, it does surprise me that his Holiness is so un-accepting with Dorje Shugden and his practitioners.

The stale mate between the Dalai Lama and China should come to an end because it benefits no one for this conflict to persist. In the teaching [Nothing Changes, Everything Changes] by Tsem Rinpoche, I learn that in order to be happy, to have peace, to move on, just take the first step to say “sorry” or “let’s be friends” etc. You take the first step not because you are wrong, but because you want to move on…because you don’t want to hold onto the burden of animosity.

Thank you Rinpoche for this post. It clearly reiterates the need to keep spirituality and politics separate.

  59. freon on Jan 30, 2015 at 3:05 pm

This ban have causes so much damage. People are confused on the reason Dalai Lama imposed on this ban and seem like Dorje Shugden’s ban have always been related to China.

It is not fair to blindly relate religion with politic or use religion as scapegoat to get away the attention on the problems that the Tibet refugees should face with.
May this illogical ban will be uplifted to clear the darkness of ignorance.

  60. Uncle Eddie on Jan 30, 2015 at 2:54 pm

Not only our Rinpoche, but all shugden practitioners around the globe are anxiously and earnestly praying hard for a hopeful amicable settlement of the Dorje Shugden issue soon, the ealier the more blessed! It is indeed painfully sad to note that there seem to be no indication of an amicable solution for a happy ending. The millions of Dorje Shugden’s practitioners have faithfully awaited in total disappointment through the many painful years till today, and are still awaiting for a pleasant resolution to this stubborned issue! As Rinpoche’s blog said, “If His Holiness can so compassionate “forgive” the communists for all the damages they have had done in Tibet, why not also forgive the shugden people, who have in fact done much less, if any, in Tibet or elsewhere.” As a highly enlightened being, it would be appropiate as a “DEVINE” Leader of Tibet to forgive and forget whatever had has already happened so long ago. In respect of peace and happiness in our today’s World, we already have too much sufferings, cost by by endless killings and fighting through conflicts around the Globe, segregating people, families, love ones and creating painful havocs, griefs, discomforts and deaths to hundreds of thousands of sentient beings! I have even come across such write-ups quoted in one of His Holiness The Dalai Lama’s famous books! Are we happy or eager to add more such conflicts, hurt, painful sadness to all the aforesaid sufferings already existing to the people around this unhappy World. If not, let us therefore “FORGIVE AND FORGET WHAT HAD BEEN PASSED” and get back together, to peacefully re-instate harmony, happiness and unity for the sake and benefit of all Beings!

Religious discrimination is not something we should promote. It has many bad effects such as instilling hatred in the practitioners which is totally opposite teaching of Buddha.

I also find that Central Tibetan Administration publish the “wanted list”, and it is not something we should encourage. From what I remember, Central Tibetan Administration is a democratic administration, and this action is totally not accepted by a democratic administration. Therefore, I am also very much looking forward to the day when this disappoint ban against Dorje Shugden will be over.

May we promote peace instead of hatred; may we promote oneness instead of separation; may we promote acceptance instead of discrimination.

  64. Tenzin on Jan 29, 2015 at 9:34 pm

Following long and careful investigations, His Holiness the Dalai Lama strongly discourages Tibetan Buddhists from propitiating the fierce spirit known as Dolgyal (Shugden). Although he once practised Shugden propitiation himself, His Holiness renounced the practice in 1975 after discovering the profound historical, social and religious problems associated with it. Even within the Geluk and Sakya schools – the Tibetan Buddhist traditions to which majority of Shugden practitioners belong – the propitiation of this spirit has been controversial throughout its history. Historical investigation reveals that Shugden practice, which has strong sectarian overtones, has a history of contributing to a climate of sectarian disharmony in various parts of Tibet, and between various Tibetan communities.
His Holiness has regularly made public his view that this practice is inadvisable, based on the following three reasons:

    1. The danger of Tibetan Buddhism degenerating into a form of spirit worship
    2. Obstacles to the emergence of genuine non-sectarianism
    3. Especially inappropriate in relation to the well-being of Tibetan society

His Holiness has strongly urged his followers to consider carefully the problems of Shugden practice on the basis of these three reasons and to act accordingly. He has stated that, as a Buddhist leader with a special concern for the Tibetan people, it is his responsibility to speak out against the damaging consequences of this kind of spirit worship. Whether or not his advice is heeded, His Holiness has made clear, is a matter for the individual.

    • Eno on Jan 29, 2015 at 10:20 pm

The irony is that Shugden is presented by his followers as the protector of the Ge-luk (dge lugs) school, of which the Dalai Lama is the (de facto) leader.

I understand your frustration about the current ban on Dorje Shugden and inevidently, there are so many inconsistencies and confusions. Instead of presenting your case in a format which has been repeated for umpteen times without much logic, may I suggest you ask these questions from this link and see if it applies to you and the current situation: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/dorje-shugden/can-tibetan-lamas-make-mistakes.html

Can I please have my above comment deleted? How do I do that?

  65. Joy on Jan 29, 2015 at 8:59 pm

It would be befitting for a resolution to arise because let’s face it, this ain’t the 16th century any more and even the Berlin wall has been torn down. Why of all faiths… the world’s supposedly most “peaceful” religion is putting up walls against each other? That just does not make any sense and there is more non-Buddhist education, atheist people out there who is gonna look at this and laugh at Buddhism as a whole, and unfortunately this will definitely not look good for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. This certainly does not create a positive impression on the Dalai Lama. So yes it is totally logical and the BEST for everyone that a dialogue to resolve this issue on common peaceful grounds be set and done once and for all. H.H. Dalai Lama always talk about world peace, tolerance and harmony, it’s time to show this great example by resolving the Shugden issue amicably. Like what Rinpoche said “With Shugden people behind the Dalai Lama, he will have more friends and supporters.” There is certain more to gain when a nation is united than when it’s divided.

If a leadership can remove the sufferings of even one citizen, they should as they have the power of office and responsibility to do so. —-So TRUE and I think everyone is anxiously waiting, and watching and needing this action from the H.H. the Dalai Lama. It’s high time as time is certainly running short.

  66. Li Kim on Jan 29, 2015 at 7:21 pm

Thank you Rinpoche for this article as it has given me perspective to balance my view on mixing religion and politics. Personally, religion and politics should NEVER mix because the primary motivation of both are not the same. In politics nobody talks about peace but economics. Of course many can argue that economics brings peace…hmm…I guess so but not that inner peace in our minds which we can take to our death beds which we can bring to a better level in our next lives (for those who believe in reincarnation).

However, my personal view of not mixing is unrealistic, which is why what Rinpoche has written teaches me how that despite the world mixing it all up I can still hold a spiritual view on it. I do pray that this hostile Ban is lifted and all that is “advised” against Shugden practitioners be retracted. I wish HH Dalai Lama long life. More importantly, I pray for all beings to have peace in their minds and souls and this will happen by not creating more conflict.

    • Eno on Jan 29, 2015 at 8:08 pm

LOL, this is not the Star Wars movie, this is a world of relative truth, where Shugden could be demon and protector in the same time.

The ultimate truth is something that is perceived by the wisdom of sublime beings. And the relative truth is something that is perceived by ordinary beings whose subject is contaminated, or obscured by ignorance.

The Buddha who has completely understood the nature of the two truths without any error, has taught us, spoken, or termed these two truths. The word ‘termed’ is very important because only someone who has understood the two truths can reveal the absolute teaching, the ultimate teaching on the two truths. And that is only the Buddha himself.

Dear Rinpoche, this is a topic that is easier to start than to conclude. HHDL is not just an individual, he is an institution, an institution that spanned for centuries to oversee certain interest and to sustain specific differences. China is a major part of this theocratic equation. I strongly agree with you that we should wish all parties well and that reconciliation is the way to go. There is a tremendous hunger in China for religion, in particular Buddhism. In many places, the most respected and ‘fashionable’ form is Tibetan-style Buddhism. There are also attempts by Beijing to promote itself once again as the world’s Mahayana centre. Unfortunately this is not purely religious. Here, spirituality and political power are two sides of the same coin. I can only pray that Lord Shugden bridges both worlds, that all involved have the wisdom to focus only on their commonalities. _/\_

  72. Eno on Jan 29, 2015 at 4:43 pm

In some of the big buddhist schools in Tibet, they have slogans like “I pay homage to Gautama who has rejected all views” written right on top of the door, right as you enter the main shrine. They talk about how the monks should study the Madhyamika view, Chandrakirti, buddhist pramana and all of that. But at the end, it says that after all of these studies, you should get rid of all of them.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you so much for such a beautiful post.
Yes!! China, the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden all can be in the same world working with each other for the betterment of this planet. This is the way it should be and can be and will be.

Nobody should ever put down another one’s faith no matter what. All of us should be given equal rights to practice any religion. Malaysia is such a beautiful country for our government is fair and they do not discriminate religions.

I really pray that this issue can be resolved soon for many who are suffering from the ban.
May we all have religious freedom everywhere.

Every single day now I look forward very much to the day coming soon where the disappointing ban against the World Peace Buddha Protector Dorje Shugden will be over. It will be soon. Everything the Tibetan leadership has said against the Dorje Shugden practice has not made any sense. At first it sounded good, but as time goes on, educated people are examining their claims and coming to the conclusion it does not make sense. More are speaking out. Any government or leader should never criticize or ‘advise’ against any religious faith, path or practice. It is politically wrong not to mention it infringes on our religious freedom. If you don’t like a certain religious path, you keep it to yourself and not announce it publicly disappointing many.Un-democratic. What is important is look at the person not their skin color, race, religion or economic background. Religious apartheid must be removed even in the ‘advices’ we give others. Tsem Rinpoche

    • Sheldon on Jan 30, 2015 at 12:01 pm

If we see HHDL as a simple monk with no realizations we lose out big time. If one recognizes within ones heart that HHDL is a living buddha and has infinite compassion for all sentient beings and who can see each and everyone’s mind. Out of great compassion HHDL knows what’s best for our mind. If HHDL advises us what is best for us. Wouldn’t one listen and do what is said?

It comes down to guru devotion. If we cannot take up and do what is advised by HHDL. Then we cannot have guru devotion to any other realized beings including Lord Buddha.

Not all Lamas/Rinpoches/Tulku have total realizations.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche said “HHDL’s was at Deer Park visiting Geshe Sopa and a staff member asked HHDL “time and time You have said you are a simple monk with no bodhicitta and realizations of the right view. If HHDL does not have experience of these realizations, then ordinary beings like us don’t have any hope whatsoever.”

HHDL felting unbearable (compassion, not wanting us to lose faith.) It slipped out from His holy mouth that He did remember that in a past life HHDL was a bodhisattva in the entourage of the Buddha. HHDL gave a very clear answer.”

We have to be very careful with this issue. HHDL is trying His best to guide us as best He can from this life and the next. If HHDL said a practice will not help or guide oneself then we should stop doing it.

To worship something is not the path to enlightenment. Worshipping is just short term gains for this life. It will be useless at the end of one’s life. No true gains only more suffering.

We are all in samsara. We need to get out in this life.

          Hi JP,

Can a Rinpoche(s) be wrong too?

HHDL has spent many centuries investigating this issue. HHDL would surpass all others in knowledge with this issue. He is not don’t this for selfish reasons. He knows exactly what will help us to gain enlightenment.

If He has to use wrathful means to wake up Sangha members or lay people He will do whatever is needed for their sake.

The people who are against the wishes of HHDL see HHDL with wrong view. They see He has a simple monk and not a living buddha. Who knows exactly what we need. Thats the downfall of this issue.

I think, first of all, there is no general ban. People can practice it. Secondly, restrictions and majority decisions in the monasteries are reasonable in light of how this practice restricts the freedom of practice for his adherents (Shugden violently punishes those who even touch Nyingma texts). Thirdly, Zong Yangsi Rinpoche doesn’t practice Shugden either. No reason to cling so much to it. This is my opinion.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
