This monk can sit on clean high throne teaching the Dharma and conferring the Highest Yoga Tantra initiation, he can also sit on dirty low street walkway giving money and food to the homeless.
能屈能伸,此乃大丈夫也。这位僧人可以坐在干净的高法座上教导佛法,授予无上瑜伽灌顶;也可以坐在马路旁又低又肮脏的地上给流浪汉送钱和食物。

Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing. Our Lama and Guru HE Tsem Tulku Rinpoche was not an ordinary monk . Rinpoche loves and cares for all sentient beings regardless of race ,religion , poor , rich and so on. Rinpoche had been taking care of people, though he have little for himself nor matter where. Rinpoche at one moment giving dharma teaching on throne and the next moment sitting low on street pathway giving foods to the homeless . We are very fortunate to have Rinpoche as our Guru here in Malaysia. Rinpoche had benefited many of us with his teachings.
Anyone who knows Tsem Rinpoche know that Rinpoche has no association with title, position, label, etc. Rinpoche is so knowledgeable with Dharma and very qualified to teach to many different levels of scholars, but to teach lay people like us, Rinpoche is teaching us on another level, by showing example to us. To me personally, I can’t absorb much Dharma because it is very intellectual, but when Rinpoche show me example, it “clicks” for me and, especially Rinpoche’s action in kindness.
I wish there are many more enlightened masters like Tsem Rinpoche in Malaysia to benefit even more people, especially people like me who is not so intellectual who needs “examples” 🙂
Enlightened beings sees all things as pure, all people as potential buddhas and do not dwell in duality.
Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing this. As a student of Rinpoche, This is not something new. This is what Rinpoche had been doing all the time. Rinpoche treats everyone as equal, be them successful people, homeless people or animals. Rinpoche always leading us by example that we should treat everyone with total care and kindness.
What makes Rinpoche a reincarnated Lama and Tulku? He’s not an ordinary monk but a living Buddha with a heart of big compassion and wisdom took rebirth in this life to benefits sentient beings. We are so blessed to meet Rinpoche and listen to his teachings. Every moment we spent with Rinpoche was a teachings because Rinpoche himself is a walking example of a Buddha. Rinpoche not only care about homeless, poor families but animals and other beings too. Rinpoche’s car always loaded with food for cats and dogs. He feeds those hungry gods and cats at the streets every where He goes. After Rinpoche fed them Rinpoche will say a prayer to bless them. He also encourages the students to do the same.
That’s how Kechara Soup Kitchen was found many years ago to feed the homeless and help the poor families in a daily basis. Thousands of people Kechara Soup Kitchen is feeding in Kuala Lumpur every week.
Rinpoche has been doing this tirelessly for others for many years. This is a life of a Bodhisatva. Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing the pictures with us.
Thank you for sharing Pastor Seng Piow!
Rinpoche’s care is never ending.
Rinpoche had to endure so much suffering in His life and this has made Him even more caring. I feel so incredible happy and blessed to have met Rinpoche.
In every way Rinpoche shows always how much He cares and He practices the Dharma tirelessly without concern for His own health or His own needs.
May I be close to my Root Guru in all my lifes and practice the Dharma.
Thank You Rinpoche!
Rinpoche has been consistent helping homeless people for many years since i met him. Where rinpoche go, he always spot at the road side have homeless or not. When he see people are poor, he always give food and money to helping poor people. That including to his friends and student. Rinpoche always show kindness and care to others. I always think he like a living bodhisattva, who can not see others suffering and always find way to helping them free from suffering.
Rinpoche doesn’t let his title stop him from caring for others be it people or animals. Having slept in the streets on a hungry stomach in the cold while hitch hiking across the United States gave Rinpoche the experiences how the homeless feel. And that drives Rinpoche to give care, love, food and warmth to the less fortunate. These extend to abused animals and strays. It led to the birth of Kechara Soup Kitchen; and when the time and opportunity knocked, we would see Kechara Animal Sanctuary.
Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for such a beautiful sharing!
This ‘monk’ is no other than our compassionate Guru, H.E.Tsem Rinpoche. For all the years that I have have known Rinpoche, He is always consistent in what He says and what He does. Like some say, Rinpoche ‘walk the talk’. I am so glad that I have the merits to meet Rinpoche and receive so much from Him. All Rinpoche does is give, give and give in whatever ways He can, be it, teachings, care, love, advise, gifts, etc.
Rinpoche is the kindest and most compassionate person I have ever known.
Thank you Rinpoche for all that Rinpoche have done for me and many others around the world.
I’m very fortunate to witness and experience how Tsem Rinpoche walk the talk. Rinpoche is Lama that not only teach on the throne but Rinpoche always show through his actions. You will always find that what Rinpoche’s teaching is insync with his action and it is always consistent. The consistency can only be explain through a compassion heart that always to benefit of others.
Traveling with Rinpoche we can see that Rinpoche always on the look out and when Rinpoche notice any homeless Rinpoche immediately get food, drinks, clothes or anything that Rinpoche observe from the homeless and what they need and will get for them. Rinpoche is not just giving for the sake of giving but always think thoroughly how it can best benefit them. This is also what Rinpoche has been always training us to do. Be it human or animals Rinpoche always being consistent in helping them.
As I said what we listen from Rinpoche on the throne is always match with what Rinpoche does in his action and it’s very spontaneous and from there you can gauge Rinpoche action is natural compassion. Learning from a compassion higher being is a great blessing and is our great karma.
Thank you Rinpoche for your tirelessly effort to always being compassionate to benefit many and with your skilfully way to non stop reach out to help more people.
Such is the true meaning of compassionate and caring and wise…. :’)
Tsem Rinpoche is no ordinary monk, whatever Rinpoche does is truly out of His compassion and care to others. On throne and off throne Rinpoche compassion and action are the same.
Whether it is Dharma Teaching or giving food and money at the sidewalk to strangers, every action Rinpoche do encompass the Bodhisattva value that we must emulate in our Spiritual practice, if we have wisdom but no actions, it is incomplete.
This Monk is no ordinary Monk. He is HE Tsem Rinpoche, my Root Guru and my Saviour from my deluded mind.
I have the privilege to be near Rinpoche and to witness another thing which He would do, it is to buy up whatever a walkaround/street vendor has to sell. Not that Rinpoche needs the items but rather to enable these vendors to make a decent living for the day.
There was a time in Bangkok, Rinpoche would buy all the lotteries from the street vendors. Rinpoche was not about striking rich by lottery but just to relieve these vendors of their goods and as mentioned for a day’s decent profit. Rinpoche would not even look for results of the draw. Sometimes we ”greedy students” will see if any of the lotteries will hit jackpot and as you know, they will not. The reason being that the reason for their being purchased is not to hit jackpot.
Besides humility, care, love and compassion are the traits of my Guru that I hope to emanate.
Thank Pastor Seng Piow for the sharing on this humble Lama that we respect very much.We hold high admiration for this Lama as he bring the essence of Dharma to life.
He not only preach the importance of Dharma Knowledge .But to create situation to enable us to apply it practically in our everyday lives.By creating a cause for us to learn and get involved. We are given a valuable opportunity to gain mind transformation.
It is in the art of giving without an agenda to develop our mind to understand the joy of Generosity.
Tsem Rinpoche does this so effortlessly as he is highly attained in Dharma and we should follow his example if we wish to evolve forward in our Dharma practice…
Thank you Tsem Rinpoche for your kind guidance…
Rinpoche can show us the path to enlightenment by giving dharma talk in order to help us to get out of samsaric suffering and He also wants to relief the hunger and pain of the homeless. In His mind He always think of easing the sufferings of all beings, truly a Bodhisattva!! Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing.
In order to adopt that jewels of the Mind, let us without fail make offerings constantly to the tathagathas, to the stainless Jewel of the sublime Dharma, and to the children of the Buddhas of excellent qualities, with as many flowers, fruits and medicinal herbs as there are in the world and clear pleasant waters, and then pray deeply and sincerely for their blessings of success! Those who wish to protect their practice should zealously guard the mind. The practice cannot be protected without guarding the unsteady mind. Untamed, like a mad elephants do, will inflict as much harm in this world as to oneself, but if the elephant of the mind is completely restrained by the rope of mindfulness, then perils will all vanish, and complete well-being is obtained as shown in Rinpoche’s book “The Promise”. Therefore, withdrawing the mind from all evil ways, we shall always concentrate on its own meditative object, in order to be able to obtain oceans of joy and contentment! Om mani padme Hung.
The contrast in the environment is real and so is Rinpoche’s bodhicitta. There is no doubt about that. Thank you for the post Pastor Piow.
Tsem Rinpoche undoubtedly is giving to the homeless people whether theres a camera there or not to capture it… He probably started a long time before he could afford it.
You are absolutely right Josh : Rinpoche started a long time before he could even afford it. Way back in the early 90s when Rinpoche was still living in India and had few sponsors, Rinpoche with whatever little he had would go to Bodhgaya and pay a restaurant there to cook dhall and bread and he would personally serve the homeless people outside Mahabodhi temple.
Rinpoche would also personally visit the homes of poor families to take a mental note of what they need and he would personally go shopping to pick up the items and deliver them. I was also with Rinpoche in the US for several months. Whenever Rinpoche spots a homeless, he would do the same. For the 20 years that I have been with Rinpoche, this has happened so many times that we the students have lost count.
Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing this. Rinpoche shows his compassion to everyone no matter where He is, what He does every single minute is about benefiting others but not for Himself. This kind of guru is the one I should follow forever and I am thankful to have Rinpoche in my life. Thank you Rinpoche for being my guru.
Although Pastor Seng Piow memtioned this ‘monk’, but He is actually more than just an ordinary monk. ‘He’ has boundless compassion with stainless wisdom. His loves and cares are more than just mere words. He is none other than our Guru H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche.
What makes a Lama becomes a High Lama and how do you differentiate a real tulku from fake ones? Perhaps you can listen to the teaching here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LyCaYM_EL5c at 30:00 mins. For me, yes, Rinpoche did manifested angersome and unhappiness in some of the blog post or youtube (I am sorry to say this because I mostly watched His Teachings and never once did I met up with Him so far) but then when you contemplated further, you will actually came to realise what He has gone through, if you were to put yourself in His shoes. Besides, you can actually see the benefits of his teaching through the behaviour of the seniors, their attitude, the comments from public and as well as the benefits that I myself have experienced so far. I am not the best person that I claimed to be but definitely I am better than the previous me.
Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for tirelessly taking care of Rinpoche and for this blogpost.
