WHAT IS FIRE PUJA (JINSEK)?
– a teaching given by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche in 2013 prior to doing Fire Puja at Kechara Forest Retreat (transcribed by Pastor David)

Please watch this video:

In general, there are many types of deities which are a manifestation of various energies, realizations and the compassion of the Buddhas. These deities specifically emanate at a particular time for an individual or a group.

If someone solicits, prays or they have a difficult situation at that time, a Buddha will manifest in a particular form – color, shape, size, stance, facial expression and holding the necessary implements to overcome, subdue and purify that particular karma or ailment of that person. So, once that’s done, when other people do that puja, a lineage of pujas begins from there. So, one deity can have hundreds of different emanations and many different types of pujas as well. Each puja in these traditions may be slightly different but the effect is the same. It depends on which tradition you belong to.

Amongst all pujas, the fire puja is considered the king of all Pujas. It is the most powerful of all pujas within Tibetan Buddhism and its purpose is basically to remove all obstacles and its stains, known as drima in Tibetan, to enlightenment. It is for purifying ordinary appearances, ordinary unwholesome actions and especially for repairing broken pledges, promises and vows. Those are very strong causes for us to have negative doubts, delusions and negative ideas. The reason we have a lot of negative ideas and delusions towards something that is good for us for example, Dharma is because of the broken pledges and promises that we had in the past. Fire pujas purifies that when we do it continuously with faith and good samaya.

The fire pujas are performed with special ingredients. Special mandalas are constructed at the site and there are peaceful, increase, subjugation and forceful or wrathful fire pujas. The peaceful fire pujas are to remove inauspiciousness, problems that might be coming to our lifespan, wisdom, wealth, growth of Dharma – hearing, contemplating and meditating on the Dharma. To pacify those problems that may come or delay those problems until we purify it. While, the increase fire pujas is to increase merit, health, lifespan, wisdom and spiritual wealth especially on the hearing, contemplation and application of the Dharma. The control fire pujas is to turn negative circumstances around in our favor as long as we have a good motivation. The last one mentioned is the wrathful fire puja and is only performed when the peaceful, increase and control fire pujas are not effective due to the powerful amount of karma we have. We use wrathful methods to overcome whatever obstacles and ailments obstructing us to growth, wealth, health and practice

For example, some students in the past have done pujas and fire pujas for prolonging their life, for their parents – mothers and fathers and after the puja was done, you can see that it made a difference. That’s very kind of the teacher to recommend that and for the student who does it as well. When the student does it for their parents, it alleviates their problems, increases their lives and even saves their lives in some cases. So we should always remember that kindness and that we should always try to increase the Dharma so that other people may receive that form of kindness as well. Therefore, fire pujas is very very effective in many ways when done accordingly with samaya.

So, in the past we can see fire pujas, long life pujas, pilgrimage pujas or recitation pujas can help our family, friends, loved ones and our children. There have been many cases where children have passed their exams because of pujas. There are cases where fathers’ and mothers’ lives have been saved or increased or their health has improved. Never forget that kindness because it is rare that someone has the ability to do that for our parents through pujas. This can only come about by having a Dharma center, organization, with the Sangha and having people together creates a receptacle or a place where these powerful methods can be taught, practiced and be of further benefit to others. So, that’s very very important to do that.

Fire pujas is also specifically for purifying ordinary appearances, unwholesome actions, broken pledges, inauspicious circumstances and removing negative karma that obstruct us from doing our Dharma practice. The fire pujas are offered to 4 main objects of offerings. The first one is to the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, deities (yidams), dakas, dakinis, arhats, shravakas, pratyakayas and highly accomplished arhats. Second set is offered to the worldly protectors and highly powerful beings in the area and then, the third is to all sentient beings and the last offering is made to spirits and hungry ghosts because they are always hungry, wandering, lonely and thirsty. So we give them some temporary relief.

In general, there are thirteen main ingredients. In different traditions, the ingredients may vary slightly but the meaning is pretty much the same. What we do is we generate the fire, purify it and invite the fire god Agni, make offerings to him and get permission from him to use the fire. We are not praying to him but asking for permission. After that, we remove Agni and then, within the fire, we generate the deity of the Yidam or the protector. So, if the fire puja is to White Tara, we generate White Tara or Vajrayogini or Yamantaka or a Dharma Protector. So, lets say that it is to a Dharma Protector, we invite the Dharma Protector to enter the fire. It is because the Dharma Protector is indestructible, arising from the full enlightened mind, he abides within the fire and he opens his mouth and we offer the purified offerings to him, of melted butter, sesame seeds, Tsa Durva grass, rice, rice with curd, kusha grass, mustard seed, barley which is unhusked barley, normal barley which is husked, lentils, wheat, sticks and finally all the ingredients mixed.

So, these are the 13 ingredients offered step-by-step. We recite the mantra of the deity, for example our Dharma Protector Setrap. We recite Om Maha Yaksha Tsa Soha and we place the offering into the fire or into the mouth of Setrap directly. This is considered very powerful and efficacious. The first offering, we offer melted butter, which represents the increase of lifespan, merit and prosperity. So, if our parents are sick when a fire puja was done and a lot of butter was offered to the yidam or the deity in order to increase the lifespan of our parents. So, when we stick with the Dharma, we assist our parents because only Dharma can change their karma for better things. So we can offer a lot of melted butter to the deity. That’s why the offerings should be abundant as much as possible. There’s no limit to increasing one’s lifespan so if we are doing it for a loved one – our parents, our beautiful mother, our sacred father, our children or whomever it is. You can even do this for your pets and it will increase their lives when we visualize the butter as a purified substance offered into the mouth of the deity itself. So, this is very important for all of us to do fire pujas at least once or twice a year for whatever purpose stated earlier.

Number two, we offer sesame seeds. The sesame seeds removes non-virtues, negative karma, broken samaya, negative thought, negative speech and negative actions. We may think that we can do and say as we want and if anybody say we can’t, they are infringing on us, they are judging us or they are being judgemental. That’s not true! All the Dharma books in the world talk about what we need to purify. They talk about the faults of our three poisons – ignorance, hatred and desire and how they afflict us and create problems for us. That’s not criticism. That’s giving you wisdom. So, we shouldn’t say “don’t judge me” or “don’t criticize me” because that is a barrier we create so we don’t hear the truth or we don’t deal with the truth. So, by offering purified sesame seeds, we remove non-virtues that create obstructions to our mind to perceive, understand, apply and operate from wisdom. It is by the power of wisdom that purifies our mind that operates from ignorance to receive, hear and to be near wisdom or to be near a lama – Dharma. This doesn’t mean we will practice because we have karmas that obstruct it. Hence, offering the purified sesame seeds represents the purification of non-virtues that obstruct us to higher attainments, higher thoughts, higher practice and growth.

The next one is Tsa Durva – grass and by offering that, we increase one’s lifespan. We increase it not to engage in negative actions but is meant to engage in positive actions. To be in the situation where there’s positive thoughts, actions, friends and information where we would do positive work in order to benefit ourselves and others. The next one is to offer rice. Offering rice is to increase merits. The more merits we have, the more understanding blossoms. The more understanding blossoms, the less confusion we have and the less confusion we have, the more we can progress on our spiritual practice and be of benefit to others.

The next one is rice with curd is offered to increase great happiness – Gewa Chenpo. Offering of rice with curd is to increase worldly happiness, spiritual happiness and to gain the great bliss of a fully enlightened Buddha. The next one is Kusha grass, which is offered for protection. It is protection from negative influences from above, below, the 4 corners and the 4 intermediate directions – the 10 directions. The next one we offer is mustard seed. Mustard seed is offered to the deity purified in order to clear obstacles. This is obstacles of what we want to achieve, for example in KFR, we want to be of tremendous benefit to others, to get all of our permits and complete all of our construction work and have programs going and all that.

By offering unhusked barley, we create the causes for increasing wealth, material resources, necessities, food, clothing, properties, water, anything that we need to be of benefit to others. It is also anything our body needs in order to have a healthy strong life in order to be of benefit to others. So, offering unhusked barley increases wealth. The next one is the offering of husked barley. This offering is to gain rapid accomplishments. So, it is to gain rapid accomplishments of whatever practices, mantras, meditations, recitations, study, contemplation, application that we do from the Dharma. By offering barley, we create the causes and the karmic effects of gaining rapid accomplishments.

The next offering is lentils is to gain strength, which was what Kensur Rinpoche used to say “Thuk Chenpo”. To gain strength of body, mind and speech – to speak courageously about the Dharma no matter how we are criticized. It is to have a strong body and not be sick easy or not to be easily affected by negative elements. It is also to have the strength of mind – not to easily give up, not to find fault with others, situations or find others to be blamed. It is also to have the strength not to put the blame on others when we fail, give up or have doubts. This doubt comes from unethical behaviour or behaving unethically and saying it is ethical or justifying that it is ethical and thus creating the karma for us to always think negatively. Therefore, lentils is to gain great strength of body, speech and mind.

The next offering is wheat. Wheat is to overcome illness. Illness here is of the body and mind that we have to be purified and healed along with future illness. Next offering is that of sticks purified and buttered. These sticks are offered in order to gain high accomplishments – mental high states of being, thinking and status that is used in order to be of benefit to others. The last offering is mixed ingredients and offered to increase wisdom, study, understanding and strength to overcome our weaknesses. It increases the ability to practice and become a fully enlightened Buddha.

The whole purpose of Dharma is to become a fully enlightened Buddha. We can listen to all the Buddha’s teachings, our Guru’s teachings and we can consider it a scolding, criticism, judgement or we can take all the Buddha’s teachings and what the Guru tells and explains to us as wisdom. It is something for us to measure by because of everybody, whatever advice we give us contradicts our own projections and our own attachments. Whatever teachings that have been given to us, whatever wisdom or knowledge that have been given to us, we always see it as an attack on our attachments, we become defensive, we become angry, we say you are judging us but it is not the case. All the Dharma books, gurus, they are suppose to teach the Dharma. They are suppose to give us the Dharma. Our Guru cannot encourage us to go indulge, you know to create negative karma, drink, smoke, womanize and harm and lie and steal. Our Guru can’t do that. Our Guru is not suppose to do that and will not do that. So, if our Guru is teaching us the Dharma, our Guru is not our enemy but our friend. But sometimes when it comes to the face of our attachments, we see our Guru as the enemy but actually not.

So therefore, our Guru is not our enemy. If we really wanna say he’s our enemy, it’s the Dharma. The Guru is telling us the Dharma. For example, if a message has been given to us on a CD deck and we don’t like the message and we smash up the CD deck. The CD deck is not at fault. The CD deck is a vehicle for the Dharma to come through. You smash up the CD doesn’t matter also because the message is not the CD or the CD player but the message is from the person that is coming from. And that person is giving the message from knowledge or wisdom wherever it is obtained. So therefore, by smashing up the CD player all that, it will not help. Like that, if we criticize or we say negative things and we create problems for the teacher or the Dharma center because we don’t like what its told us. We feel it is judging us. That’s wrong view. Why is that wrong view? Because it is something that make us face our attachments which will create karma, which will definitely come back to us.

The Buddha cannot be wrong so therefore, it is giving us wisdom. It is giving us the measuring stick to check and to look at and to understand. Hence, when Pabongka Rinpoche, Trijang Rinpoche, Zong Rinpoche, when they give great teachings to thousands of monks in the monastery, they taught the same way. They told us what was wrong. They told us what was on our mind. They told us about wrong view. They told us about our attachments. They told us about our karma and its effects and what will happen and we didn’t feel it was scolding. We didn’t feel it was judgment. We saw it as wisdom. So therefore, the last one when we were offering the mixed items, it gives us the ability and blessings to realize advice and teachings that is part of the path to become a fully enlightened being.

So, fire pujas in that way is very effective and powerful if we do it continuously. Then, after all 13 ingredients have been offered, we make a final offering of the sensory items to the Buddha, Bodhisattvas and deities and especially to the deity that has been invited to abide within the wisdom fire. After that’s done, we have the deities return to the pure lands and then we make a final offering to the fire deity called Agni and thank him for using the fire. At the end, we conclude and dedicate and we leave the fire burning as long as possible. We don’t add anything to keep the fire burning and we don’t put it out either. If it rains on it, its fine. We can leave the fire burning until the next day and we can clean up. The fire pujas ashes can be used as relics. It can be placed into stupas, it can be worn, it can be scattered on the ground, it can be put on plants or it can be used to bless the land. The person that is doing the fire puja must have gotten the initiation of the deity and perform the sadhana daily without breaking and also have done the full retreat and have done the fire puja of the deity. Then, when they do the fire puja again and again. It is very effective.

So, I have requested these fire pujas to be done at our beautiful Kechara Forest Retreat to dedicate to all of our sponsors, friends, volunteers and students who have contributed a thousand dollars, a million dollars, a million hours, a million cleanups – sweeping, cooking – whatever they have done. Sponsors is not just money. It is everyone who have contributed. For all the meaning of the 13 ingredients to come true for all of them and for our existing students and future students to come. So, the fire pujas are also done to dedicate to all the hardworking students so that their Dharma, learning, meditation, practice and especially application of Dharma will increase. So, we are doing a lot of fire pujas on the Kechara Forest land so that in the future, whoever comes will be blessed, will feel peace, will have healing, will gain wisdom, will want to do Dharma and will be able to develop the inner higher attainments in order to become a fully attained being.

The fire pujas are the most powerful within Tibetan Buddhism and are extremely potent for removing obstacles, cleanses the environment and beings, grants blessings, and stimulates world peace. It generates immense merits of wisdom and merits of compassion. The fire pujas are performed with special ingredients and each offering has a precise intention. Examples melted butter to expand lifespan, merit, and prosperity while kusha and couch grass to strengthen the radiance of Medicine Buddha. All in a total of 13 special ingredients.
We are fortunate to have fire pujas performed at Kechara Forest Retreat and able to witness the fire puja.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands for sharing this knowledge with us .

I love visting Rinpoche’s blog, there are so much to learn. I have seen some photos of fire puja before but didn’t really know what the ritual is. Rinpoche has given a very detailed and comprehensive explanation on fire puja.

All Buddhist rituals are originated from Buddhas or some highly attained Buddhists masters who have received the teachings from Buddhas directly. Buddhas are very compassionate to give us many methods to help us solve our problems.

As we study more about Buddhism, we will realise there are many ways we can solve our problems. The most important thing is as we follow the Buddhist way to solve our problems, we are also learning to become a better person because everything we do that is related to Buddhism, is about generating compassion to others.

Wow…. Fire Puja is the king of all Pujas within Tibetan Buddhism as is very powerful and has many benefits. Its cleanses the environment and beings, grants blessings. It generates immense merits of wisdom and merits of compassion. Its helps to clear obstacles to enlightenment by eliminating imperfections left by harmful actions such as broken vows, precepts, pledges, and promises. It supports the prevention of all negative conditions. For the deceased, it is an ideal means to purify negative karma and receive a higher rebirth. Fire puja, or fire offering, is a ritual practice of offering into fire, a ritual of generously, burning offerings, using the fire element to accomplish enlightened action quickly and powerfully. There are 13 special ingredients offered step-by-steps during fire pujas, and each offering has serve a different purposes. There are four fire pujas such as peaceful, increase, subjugation and wrathful fire pujas.
With Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion we are truly blessed as fire pujas have been done at Kechara Forest Retreat. I am fortunate able to witness one so far. Glad to come across this post to have a better understanding of the purpose, benefits and ritual of fire puja.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands for this great detailed article.

There is reason why Fire Puja is the king of all Pujas within Tibetan Buddhism as it is most powerful to remove all obstacles and its stains. There are many benefits but mainly to purify the strong causes for us to have negative doubts, delusions and negative ideas. The reason we have a lot of negative ideas and delusions towards something that is good for us for example, Dharma, is because of the broken pledges and promises that we had in the past.

There are different types of Fire Puja namely peaceful, increase, subjugation and forceful or wrathful fire pujas to serve different purposes. For example, the increase fire puja is to increase wisdom, wealth, growth of Dharma, and etc. And there is a step-by-step offering ritual that need to be followed. 13 ingredients are used, they are melted butter, sesame seeds, Tsa Durva grass, rice, rice with curd, kusha grass, mustard seed, barley which is unhusked barley, normal barley which is husked, lentils, wheat, sticks and finally all the ingredients mixed.

I find it very interesting that each ingredient carries a specific meaning. For example, offering sesame seeds meant to remove non-virtues, negative karma, broken samaya, negative thought, negative speech and negative actions. “We may think that we can do and say as we want and if anybody say we can’t, they are infringing on us, they are judging us or they are being judgmental. That’s not true! All the Dharma books in the world talk about what we need to purify. They talk about the faults of our three poisons – ignorance, hatred and desire and how they afflict us and create problems for us.”

The purpose we engage on the path of Dharma is to become a fully enlightened Buddha. All the Dharma books and Lama will not sit by and let us indulge and create more negative karma. But because sometimes when our own attachments are so strong, we see the Guru as the enemy but actually not. As such we should always remember that kindness bestowed by the Guru and that we should always try to increase the Dharma so that other people may receive that form of kindness as well.

We are very fortunate to have Rinpoche sharing with us the purpose, benefits and ritual of Fire Puja. I wish that Kechara Forest Retreat will be an increasingly blessed land with healing effects so that more people will visit KFR and be blessed too.

Thank you so much, Rinpoche for sharing the knowledge with us. I really enjoy reading this blogpost as it is informative and fact-based, not to mention well researched and nicely articulated.

    Humbly, bowing down,
    Stella Cheang

Fire puja is the KING of all pujas and it is very powerful puja and very rare to see. The most important part for this puja is good to purify for repairing broken pledges, promises and vows. Of course, with our good faith and clean samaya, we can do this puja continuously for better result.

All the 13 main ingredients as offerings are important too. We should follow strictly as per advice together with the strong guru devotion in order to achieve the powerful and effectiveness of the puja.

With the kindness and compassion of Rinpoche, a lot of fire pujas have been done in Kechara Forest Retreat which may benefits to those come to KFR will be blessed, healing, peaceful and gain wisdom especially those want to do dharma and will be develop to achieve for its higher attainments.

Thank you Rinpoche teaching us about this fire puja.

Traditional rituals are very precious and beneficial and as we become modern and advanced with technology, we have forgotten how some of our traditions and customs have been solutions to life problems.

I have personally witnessed a few fire pujas and saw its miracles. There are energies (for those of us who prefer a more neutral approach to view phenomena around us) and beings (for those who have personally witnessed their presence) all around us. These properties can impact our lives and if we “interact” with respect to them and in harmony with all elements of nature, we will see life to proceed more smoothly.

I always look forward to seeing the skies change (rain before a puja and clouds lifting just for the puja to comment; rainbows appearing etc.) and the faunas respond with pleasure (I have seen lots of birds fly around a fire puja site during a light drizzle before puja begins, usually birds hide in shelters during rain, even drizzles).

So, as I witness these phenomena with my own eyes, I develop faith that there is help and solution to life. Fire pujas and other pujas (available at Kechara is you or anyone you know may need some support) can lift a dark cloud and invite in positive energies.

Thank you for the post and thank you to Kecharians who got out of their comfort zone to learn a skill that can help others.

Thank You for this interesting post on fire pujas.
Fire pujas are very done with the motive to increase Dharma, to learn, meditate and practice.
There are many ingredients with specific benefit each. Even the ashes are so precious that they are relics and can be put in a stupa or used to bless the land. Rinpoche is sharing so much knowledge with us. Thank You!

I rejoice for everyone coming to Kechara Forest Retreat and receiving these powerful blessings.
May many, many benefit and may Rinpoche have long life and health and continue to turn the wheel of Dharma.

Thank you Rinpoche for the teaching on fire puja.
I was very lucky to be there when we were setting up the first fire puja in Kechara Forest Retreat. Rinpoche was with us setting up under the hot sun and at the same time teaching us how to setup the fire puja place correctly. It is a great blessing to witness the fire puja. May Dharma spread fast and far under the guidance of Rinpoche.

This teaching on Fire puja is very informative and will benefit many people.

We are very fortunate that Rinpoche arranged for fire pujas to be done in Kechara Forest Retreat to bless the land and for the Vajrayogini stupa, and also blessing all the sponsors, friends, volunteers and students. How meritorious…!

With the fire pujas, Rinpoche created the causes for Dharma to grow in KFR and for spiritual growth of students and whoever step their foot in here.

Thank you Rinpoche for your compassion to help us all the way on our spiritual journey.

This is really interesting! The setup and preparation before the puja are extensive and not easy at all.

But this post that Rinpoche explained is quite detailed and informative for many people. I am really amazed at the people who do the fire puja. It may look easy to some but can you imagine the heat that they have to endure while doing the puja and at the same time generating compassion for all beings.

I am so lucky to be able to witness the fire pujas in Kechara Forest Retreat.
May all obstacles be cleared for Dharma to grow in many ways for Kechara and the ten directions.

I am fortunate involve the preparation of fire puja. Every ingredients must clean nicely and arrange position correctly according to puja recitation. It take a lot of work just to get all the ingredients and torma to be make for one fire puja. Many volunteer gave their contribution through their hard work and donation for the fire puja to be done.

All these happened because of the kindness of H.E.Tsem Rinpoche and hard work assistants arrangement.Hence all the merit dedicate to all the sponsors, students and visitor at the future can receive more fortune spiritual blessing by holy Lama Tsongkhapa, Vajrayohini and Dharma Protector who are visit and work at Kechara forest Retreat land.

Kechara Forest Retreat was fortunate to have the experienced monks from the monasteries performed fire pujas for the land and for Vajrayogini stupa. A spot was chosen facing the auspicious direction before building the seat for the monk who will perform the fire puja. The seat should be at a safe distance from the fire place as it gets very hot as the puja progressed. It was indeed an eye opening experience to witness the fire pujas.

It is said that performing a fire puja is very effective and powerful if we do it continously and with special ingredients! The person doing the fire puja must have gotten the initiation of the diety and perform the sadhana daily without breaking and also have done the full retreat, and have done the fire puja of the diety. Then when they do the fire puja again and again, it is very effective. Thank you Rinpoche for your expert teachings on how to perform this powerful and effective “King of all pujas” within the Tibetan Buddhism. It is indeed very intriquing, exciting and enlightening!

Thank you Rinpoche for the teaching. I’ am very fortunate to witnessed the fire puja. That was done Kechara Forest Retreat. We received many auspicious signs while the fort puja was carry on. Even it was in the evening, can you imagine the heat coming from the fire puja right in from of you? Hence this cannot not be done without a Lama’s compassion. The 13 ingredients are amazing. Thank you Rinpoche for explaining the purpose of the offerings. All the 13 offerings are offered in order to provide and increase or improve the condition for us to receive, practice and spread the Dharma. Being a Buddhist, harmony always come first. The Lama invites and asked permission from the God of fire Agni so that we can use His fire for puja, this is to show respect and to create harmony among God and people.

Thanks for the Fire Puja teaching Rinpoche.

I really learn a lot and it’s so powerful and beneficial for us especially at this degenerate time where we have created so much negative karma way back from our endless previous life.

The preparation is kinda extensive and every ingredient is important in order to help us. The 4 object of offering make me feel the compassion of these puja beside just for the requester.
We are not forgetting the lowering realms beings.

The person to carry out the fire puja must be initiated and hold strong commitment and clean samaya in order to get the great result from the fire puja.

It’s very fortunate that we have fire puja in KFR and for clearing obstacles and blessed the land.

The first time I ever saw a fire puja was about 16 years ago in KL. HE Gangchen Rinpoche performed a Yamantaka Fire Puja. It was a very hot day in KL and HE was all drenched in sweat as he wore full brocaded regalia for the puja. I remembered the fire puja was for the deceased.

Yamantaka Fire Puja is a powerful ritual that benefits both the living and those who have passed away. For the living, the puja ceremony fulfills wishes, removes obstacles, improves health, and increases merit and wealth. For the deceased, the ceremony is an excellent method of purifying negative karma and attaining higher rebirth.

We are so fortunate that these fire pujas were done in Kechara Forest Retreat to purify our defilements, remove negative influences and clear away obstacles.

Thank you Rinpoche for the clear explanation on the benefits and the process of Fire Puja.

We really need a lot of pujas to purify our negative karma so we can understand more Dharma and assist Rinpoche more to benefit others.

    Thanks for your sharing 🙂

Thank you Rinpoche for the explanation and the details of each 13 ingredients used in the fire Puja ceremony. For a lay person view the 13 ingredients look like normal offering being poured into the fire Puja, but with Rinpoche explanation in details of each benefits of each offerings that when offered are of benefits to us in different spiritual needs of health, wisdom, understand and wealth for the person to continue in their Spiritual journey.

I have heard and only saw picture of other Lama doing fire puja and it looks very interesting ritual many years back, but never really search and understand the real reason behind doing each fire Puja, except thinking it is a very powerful ritual that Tibetan Buddhist do. But with Rinpoche articles and explanation of the function of Fire Puja, and the preparation, offerings, prayer, ritual and each benefits ones get, I understand it better now.

Hope many people will understand the benefits and the function of Fire Puja with clearer understand like I have. Thank You once again Rinpoche for this great explanation.

    Sincerely,
    Frederick Law

    Dear Rinpoche

Indeed this is very informative write-up outlining every single step of Fire Puja, starting from motivations, preparation, purposes, the process and its implementation of a Fire Puja. It’s an eye opening article with abundance of teaching. Thank you Rinpoche.

Not long ago, when I first heard about the name “Fire Puja” was during the class break or after Monday Setrap Puja, that time I was curious enough the way Fire Puja was carry out by some senior Dharma brothers, standing just outside KH. Hmmmm!! Well, obviously it is total different scenarios compare to REAL Fire Puja!!

Now, understanding the importance and the auspiciousness of Fire Puja, its power and effectiveness, one day, I hope I will have accumulate enough merits in future to be able to participate the real Fire Puja.

Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha: May all be bless and protect by Dorject Shugden to gain conducive conditions to practice Dharma.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. There is a belief in rebirth

Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .
Thank you Rinpoche and Li Kim for this sharing.

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
