BEIJING, Dec 21 (Reuters) – Editor’s note: The following is the text of the full Chinese government response to the Reuters Special Report headlined “China co-opts Buddhist sect in drive to discredit Dalai Lama.”

From the Chinese Foreign Ministry:

China’s constitution stipulates that citizens have freedom of belief. The central government and government of the Tibet Autonomous Region fully respect the rights of citizens to freedom of belief. In Tibet, all religions and sects receive equal respect and protection, and normal religious activities and religious belief is protected by the law.

After democratic reform, Tibet abolished the theocratic system and did away with things tarnished by the feudal system, restoring the true features of religious freedom, achieving real religious freedom of belief and religious tolerance between different religions and sects.

‘Dorje Shugden’ is a protecting deity who has been worshipped throughout history by several schools in Tibetan Buddhism, with special religious practices, forms of worship and séances passed on. Starting from the Fifth Dalai Lama, Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas throughout history have worshipped ‘Dorje Shugden’. Whether to believe or not in the protecting deity ‘Dorje Shugden’ is totally a free and private matter for religious followers.

The 14th Dalai Lama has in recent years used all sorts of means, including violent terror methods, to force certain people to abandon their religious belief, which has caused strong dissatisfaction in the Tibetan Buddhist community and among certain religious groups internationally. This kind of behavior, which violates the beliefs of religious followers and persecutes them, once more exposes the 14th Dalai Lama’s hypocrisy and real face of the religious tyranny he practices.

Dear friends around the world,

I found this statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry extremely interesting, eye-opening and very much on the pulse of contemporary countries who are moving towards globally-accepted freedoms. In the past, many countries have a history of prejudice, racism, bias, religious hegemony and some are continuing up to this day. No country, past or present, is innocent of this type of governmental policy and domination of the public at any one time in their respective histories. Here are some simple examples:

  • In the USA, the destruction of the Native Americans and their religions by the colonisers from Europe
  • In Spain, Catholic supremacy in the past
  • English colonialism in various African countries, and in India and Hong Kong
  • In Australia, the destruction of the Aboriginal culture and religion by settlers from Europe
  • In South America, the Spanish cultural extermination of South American natives and their religion
  • And even the witch hunts of Europe and America that were prevalent, when pagan practitioners were tried, tortured, burned at the stake, and this was considered acceptable and the norm

It is only recently that these ex-colonisers have been touting human rights and flying the religious freedom flag high in the sky but just 100 to 200 years ago, they were exterminating the native cultures and religions of many peoples across the world. So for countries who like to make declarations of human rights and religious freedom, and persecute China for not allowing religious freedom to their citizens, this statement from the Foreign Ministry of China is really a landmark and milestone.

The National People's Congress, or the Parliament of China which in 2013 had 2,987 members. It is the largest parliamentary body in the world.

China is definitely moving towards an excellent direction and she needs time to work out her democratic principles according to her culture, and not that of the West. Western and Eastern culture are both unique; they have similarities but they also have vast differences. Human rights and religious freedom can be, should be and will be interpreted differently in the East and West. One should understand China’s vast 5000 years of civilised culture before judging her modern policies of governing her country. For China to say every citizen in their country has religious freedom, and that it is their right and their personal choice, shows the direction that this powerful, influential and ancient culture is moving towards and that she is modernising herself into a 21st century world superpower.

The dragon is rising and will fly high in the sky.

Some positive ramifications of this decision from the Chinese government:

1. In the past, the exiled Tibetan leadership has unequivocally mentioned that they will stand for nothing less than the complete independence of Tibet from China. The Dalai Lama himself has spoken clearly to his Tibetan people in exile that we must go for 100% independence. After a few decades of demanding independence from China, it was downgraded to autonomy and now, it is the Middle Way. You can Google and check out for yourself what the Middle Way means but basically, Tibet will remain a part of China and all Tibetans will become Chinese citizens, but Tibet will have its own provincial, self-governing leadership.

During the Cold War between the East and West, when China was seen as a Marxist enemy along with Europe’s Eastern Bloc and Russia, it was convenient for the Western powers to support the independence of Tibet from China. Now that the Eastern Bloc has warmed up, Russia has broken up and China has become a superpower that the West can no longer ignore, suddenly Western governments don’t find it logical or economical to their benefit to support Tibet’s exiled leaders in their demand for independence. It economically benefits the West superbly better to support the Middle Way and dialogue between Beijing and the Dalai Lama while they sign billion, trillion dollar business deals with China.

In the past, Western powers supported full independence of Tibet. Now that has changed to “have a nice conversation and try to live together as equal citizens” and in fact, follow the Middle Way. A policy of such importance, affecting millions of people, has been downsized from their previous clarion call for independence. Now world Western powers call for the assimilation of Tibet into China.

Two decades ago, it was easy for the West to support Tibet in their demands for independence because they had a gripe against China on a personal level. China was seen as the enemy and it was easy to use the Tibet issue against China, as part of an entire strategy to create a feared Communist Enemy in the East. Now with the straggling economy in Europe and depressed economy in the USA, everyone is looking towards the East where the sun has always risen. What does that mean? With its 1.2 billion people, China is the world’s largest economy and an economy that no other economy would dare or try to ignore. This was seen during the recent visit of China’s President Xi Jinping and his politically charismatic First Lady to many Western countries, when they were received in the highest honours as a respected, powerful Head of State, which they are. Obama threw dinners, the Queen had high tea and meanwhile, the Dalai Lama’s request to meet Western leaders were ignored.

Simultaneously, China has published via an open statement that Dorje Shugden is a Protector practice relied upon by various sects since the time of the Fifth Dalai Lama, and that they will respect this practice. In other words, they support everyone’s freedom to do this practice and any other practice, because they allow full religious freedom. Furthermore, they have said it is up to the individual to choose whether they want to practice Dorje Shugden, without any government recrimination or influence. This is unlike Dharamsala’s Tibetan exiled “leaders” who say that Dorje Shugden is not allowed, something that they mention clearly in their official websites. The exiled leaders of Tibet tell you there is no religious freedom, and you may not practice Dorje Shugden (although they tout religious freedom). On the other hand, China (who is accused of suppressing religious freedom) makes an open statement that you may practice Dorje Shugden and any other religion you would like because it is your individual right to do so. This is such a stark contrast between the so-called “suppressed” and the “suppressor” who have reversed roles.

Eventually other world powers will have to follow suit with China’s policy of not suppressing Dorje Shugden practitioners. Otherwise it may become another bone of contention in the relationship between the West and China which is still in its infancy, with the potential to upset very big business deals.

2. More countries are scrambling to change their policies regarding China and to reduce their Western idealism-fueled human rights demands, in favour of forging tremendous economic deals with China. No world powers have stretched out their necks to make trillion dollar business deals with Dharamsala’s exiled Tibetan leaders. It would be more intelligent for the exiled Tibetan leadership in Dharamsala to stop talking about Dorje Shugden and to end the suppression of its practitioners, because that creates one more difference amongst the many differences they have with China for a peaceful co-existence.

In fact, Dharamsala’s exiled Tibetan leaders have failed miserably in their job of securing their so-called national goals. Their people have scattered across the world like ants, where slowly the Tibetan culture is eroding. Contrary to what the Western powers think, Tibetan culture is very strong in Tibet as China has given their support. When I meet a Tibetan from Tibet, they speak perfect Tibetan and at times, Chinese too. I’m a Tibetan from the West – a refugee child – and I do not speak my mother tongue well. Amongst the Tibetans who have been scattered to the West, their culture has eroded tremendously due to being minorities in these foreign nations, and their need for assimilation to survive. In the West, there are many Tibetans of my generation and younger who are in a similar predicament as myself; in fact, some don’t even speak Tibetan anymore and while I have visited Tibet, many of them have never stepped foot in Tibet.

3. For 1.2 billion people of China, they have the freedom of religion and no suppression to practice Dorje Shugden. Through their statements, China shows they understand the history and background of the Dorje Shugden practice and they mention he is a Dharma Protector. On the other hand, the exiled Tibetan leadership in Dharamsala have misconstrued the history of Dorje Shugden for their own convenience and political gains, it seems.

Whether Dorje Shugden is a god, Buddha, demon, spirit, ghost, creator or alien, if people wish to adopt his practice and worship, they should be allowed to without recrimination. For the exiled Tibetan government to speak against his practice shows the very contradiction in which they purport the importance of religious freedom and harmony among all people, whilst simultaneously suppressing that of their own peoples. The more the exiled Tibetan leaders in Dharamsala create websites, books and pamphlets, and have open speeches against a religious faith such as Dorje Shugden, it will make them look theocratic, hypocritical and archaic.

In the 21st century, it doesn’t matter what religion, path, faith or spirituality you practice or do not practice but simply that you are allowed if you choose to do so. No government in any civilised country would suppress or repress their citizens towards any religion that they (the government) deems fits their individual lives.

So again I’d like to repeat here strongly – this is not about practicing Dorje Shugden or about what he is, but it is about the freedom to practice without recrimination. The exiled Tibetan government in Dharamsala has not fully understood that point and I pity them because they are not educated in world history, politics, religious development, sociology or economy. They very much want to return to Tibet and the way it was before 1959, and that will never be so let’s move on.

4. Please read this statement from the Foreign Ministry of China clearly. The respected media outlet Reuters published an article with a strong bias towards expressing anti-Shugden sentiment. Then, I was told, that Reuter’s Beijing office contacted the Chinese government. The Chinese government issued this statement which you can read below. It is extremely welcomed and it makes any person from any civilised country feel China is moving in the right direction.

I have practiced Dorje Shugden for over 30 years and I have never been paid by the Chinese government to do this practice. In fact, if the Chinese government would pay me, it would help expedite the buildings I want to do in the Dharma centre I am creating now. It is welcomed. Where has it ever been so easy for a government to pay someone to speak up about a thought or religious practice that you treasure?

China’s incredible announcement comes at a very auspicious time because Dharamsala keeps suppressing the Dorje Shugden practice and not giving religious freedom to its people. On the other hand, China who has ironically accused of suppressing religion, gives religious freedom to practice anything you like, including Dorje Shugden, furthermore saying that it’s your private choice. So therefore this statement has very powerful ramifications. It is a direction China is heading towards that the Western powers have been protesting about for decades. I welcome this article very much. It is wonderful to see a vast and powerful nation like China who comes from an incredible history that is not easily matched by other nations, give total religious freedom to its citizens.

5. In suppressing Dorje Shugden practice, the actions and policies of Dharamsala’s exiled Tibetan leaders backfired. In accusing the Chinese government of supporting Shugden practitioners, and constantly encouraging everyone to take an anti-Shugden stance, as well as prompting media outlets to cover anti-Shugden views, they have in fact forced China to make this declaration, giving the West one more reason to love China and even more reason to alienate Dharamsala and their leaders. Now that China has made such a declaration, the Western powers have one less reason to stop trade with China, since the issue of religious freedom is now irrelevant. Perhaps the Western powers may even look to Dharamsala and start to distance themselves and lessen their association with an exiled leadership upholding such archaic discriminatory policies.

6. It is highly ironic that while Dharamsala suppresses Shugden practitioners, at the same time they are pushing China towards giving full religious freedom to everyone. What will Dharamsala demand for next, that China should give religious freedom to everyone except Dorje Shugden practitioners? Does that sound right to any democratic government?

7. Some people in the West like to say that the Dorje Shugden issue is used to create schism amongst Tibetans. Well, there’s a simple solution for that: for the exiled Tibetan leaders in Dharamsala to say Dorje Shugden’s practice is allowed and that the ban is over. Then China cannot use Dorje Shugden as an issue to supposedly create schism, the end.

Tsem Rinpoche

P.S. Reuters is a established media portal and respected as well. So whatever they have published against Dorje Shugden and linking Dorje Shugden practitioners with smearing Dalai Lama in cahoots with China could be because they were misled by the people they interviewed perhaps. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt. I would respectfully request Reuters to not be one sided and see both sides. Dorje Shugden practitioners are not simply speaking up against the Dalai Lama to smear him. We gain no benefits from this. Dorje Shugden’s practice has been around for 400 years and it will not go away. It would be good for interested media to interview both sides to have an unbiased view of the situation. I personally do not have any negative thoughts or intentions towards Dalai Lama ever but I don’t agree with the Dorje Shugden ban. I wish very much that the West, Dalai Lama, China, Dorje Shugden practitioners and everyone can live in harmony. But this can only happen through understanding and talk and interaction. I think more Dorje Shugden practitioners should be interviewed to be fair. I would like to think Reuters has been misled as it’s possible because is an issue that is with Tibetans far from the UK where Reuters originate from.

Transcript:

Third on the countdown is Reuters’ anti-China fail, where they tried implicating Beijing for supporting an anti-Dalai Buddhist group, but in reality, raised awareness about his autocratic sectarianism. So folks, I found this story to be extraordinarily interesting and have been waiting to share with you guys.

Reuters came up with an article that was part of their anti-China series, entitled “China Co-opts a Buddhist Sect in Global Effort to Smear Dalai Lama” and guys is it fascinating or what? Now, forget about the fact that nothing in this entire article can be proven, and even they admit that there’s no proof except for some disgruntled monk’s testimony and that’s it. But folks did you know that Dalai Lama is fiercely sectarian? Did you even know that sectarianism exists in Buddhism? Now, I did, well, to an extent because I have been researching new religion in general for unrelated political reasons but I wasn’t aware of this. Here’s what going on in a nutshell.

For centuries, the Dalai Lama respected, and in some cases even worshipped Dorje Shugden, a Buddhist spirit-creature that is seen by many as a Protector but then the current Dalai Lama came along and because he wanted to centralize the beliefs of his flock and gain total control over them, he said it is wrong to worship this entity back around 1996 or so. And guys, did it create an outcry or what? Buddhists the world over were shocked, even those that liked the Dalai Lama and supported his ethnic aggression against China. They felt betrayed. It might not be the best comparison, but that would be like the Catholic Pope all of a sudden saying that it is not ok to pray to a very popular saint, that it must be stopped immediately. People were flat out confused, and then they realized that what China had been saying all along was right – the Dalai Lama is a sectarian politically-minded individual who wants to split Chinese society, be it Han or Tibetan to achieve nefarious purposes.

Well, as any scorned individual would ballistically do, especially those religiously scorned like the millions of Buddhists that the Dalai Lama disrespected and basically labelled as “infidels”, they began a protest movement and now they follow him all across the world. They have a worldwide presence, and they make a scene everywhere he goes. They are especially prevalent in the West – in the UK and the US in particular. And Reuters has taken a flamboyant and false stand that they are somehow all paid by Beijing and under its influence. Wait a second here, if the propaganda of the past six decades is to be believed, doesn’t China supposedly hate Buddhists? Why would it side with that? You see, what I’m pointing out here is that it is all misinformation, every single bit of it. And that they change their script however they like in order to pursue their main narrative – Dalai Lama good, anything opposed to him bad, even other Buddhists.

I was a bit shocked with the article to be honest with you all, because I mean to regular thinking minds like mine and all of you guys who are listening, this piece raises awareness about the Dalai Lama’s autocratic sectarianism, and it is not really a smear piece at all if you think about it, to resort to such a radical change in angle and script that now Pro-Chinese Buddhists are siding with the anti-Buddhist Chinese. I mean come on, get out of here, it’s just condescending to the readers and it shows how desperate Reuters, but most importantly the people behind them feeding them the so-called lead for these stories are, to manufacture some kind of, any kind of anti-Chinese pro-Dalai Lama message, no matter the consequences it has for any logic involved whatsoever.

China is the most populated country of the world and is the fourth largest country in the world in terms of dimension. China is one of the most powerful and influential countries of the world at the moment. China has the world’s fastest-growing major economy. China is a multi-religious country, where Taoism, Buddhism, Islam, to name a few. Buddhism has had a great influence on the local culture in China in terms of art, literature, and ideology. A great news ……Chinese government officially supports Dorje Shugden and allow Dorje Shugden practitioners their religious freedom. Well ,high time for the Tibetan Leadership (CTA) to change their political strategies on the ban of Dorje Shugden. Due to Dorje Shugden’s controversy, many had suffered , families divided, many had suffered , Dorje Shugden people had to break away from their monasteries and so forth.
China has benefited many in terms of economy and brought changes to Tibet and other parts of China. To date the Tibetans in Tibet wants to be part of China too. Even the Dalai Lama request to be able to travel back to Tibet.
May the ban on Dorje Shugden soon be lifted.
Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for sharing the update.

China is a country in East Asia and the world’s most populous country, with a population of around 1.428 billion in 2017. Covering approximately 9,600,000 square kilometers (3,700,000 sq mi), it is the third-largest country by total area.[j] Governed by the Communist Party of China, the state exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces,[k] five autonomous regions, four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing), and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.

Such a giant country is not easy to manage but still able to give religious freedom for its people. China respect and believe spirituality would able to help to develop the individual to be a good person. That is what they need for their people and with that their country can stay in peace. With the respect that China government gives to its people, it creates harmony among the people.

This is how a successful leader leads the country to ensure peace and harmony. As long as the religious practices don’t violet the country regulation it should be given freedom to practice.

Been a very powerful country in the world, China has comes top in economy and development. China has in fact brought many benefits, changes to Tibet. The Tibetan living in Tibet are more happy with China and wants to be part of China too.
May the ban on Dorje Shugden soon be over as in history.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

“If the Dalai Lama, if His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by Dorje Shugden, then we might as well not practice Buddhism anymore. If His Holiness the Dalai Lama can have his life shortened by a so-called evil spirit, any evil spirit, then can he be Avalokiteshvara? So on one hand you say, we say, I say, everybody says, he is Avalokiteshvara; on the other hand you’re saying that he can be harmed by an evil spirit… Which one is it? Can he be harmed by an evil spirit or is he Avalokiteshvara? Do you think Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Tara all take refuge in something else to protect themselves from Dorje Shugden? How illogical is that? How illogical of people to say His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by an evil spirit, any evil spirit or “Dorje Shugden” evil spirit. How is that possible?” – Tsem Tulku Rinpoche

A true democracy allows everyone the freedom to exercise their human rights, including the freedom to practise any religion they want. In democratic countries, the government does not interfere with this right. Neither are democratic governments prejudiced against their citizens’ choice of religious belief. They do not force people to stop their religious practice or pass legislation criminalising people because of their religion.

The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the Tibetan leadership who are based in Dharamsala are the exception. They are the only so-called ‘democratic’ leadership that puts a stranglehold on its people, persecuting them for their religious beliefs. They deny the rights of Dorje Shugden practitioners for simply practicing their religion as they have done for the past 400 years. Dorje Shugden practitioners are ostracised from their own community, denied medical care, education or even employment in government offices. The CTA definitely does not live up to the right to be called a democratic administration, especially when in it inflicts suppression of people’s freedom and disrespects basic human rights.

Will the CTA (Tibetan govt in exile) and their supporters in East and West say voodoo is evil and cannot be practiced too? Will they advise against Voodoo and say its a demon’s practice and people who practice are bad too? Truth be told, no one has the right to say anything about anyone’s religion. Listen to what this man says in the short snagged clip because he speaks well and with the truth.

It makes no sense the piece from Reuters, being an international news agency, just to write a feel good factor piece to support the Dalai lama, is indicative of the Western mindset of the Journalists. Western journalists should start take a better view of their leaders and the shift by their leaders, 99% of any leaders of worth are friendly towards China.

Just supporting His Holiness the Dalai Lama and slinging mud on the Chinese is so old school now. What is in is lets be friendly to the Chinese government, doing this could sell more newspapers too.

  20. Callista on Feb 3, 2018 at 11:06 pm

Is certainly a great news released by Chinese Foreign Ministry on religious freedom. Look, even a powerful and influential country released such a statement so what about CTA, which suppose to practice so called democracy which somehow failed. Why? CTA is exercising segregation among Tibetan by prohibit Dorje Shudgen practice and categorized the practice as a spirit, which is illogical as the practices existed for more than 400 years and it was practiced by Highly Attained Lama namely HH Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, HH Kyabje Trijiang Rinpoche, HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche and many more.

This excerpt of the Swiss Television documentary presented in 1988 is a painful reminder of the hypocrisy and the sad reality of the oppression, discrimination, and ostracisation of Dorje Shugden practitioners. For 20 years, Dorje Shugden practitioners have endured this and no one supported their fight as the Tibetan leadership in exile continues to undermine their effort by denying the existence of this ban, and silencing their voice by peer pressure, flooding the media and fooling the general public with accusations that Shugden practitioners are political tools supported by the Chinese government to create discord within the Tibetan community. Please listen to their plea and please share this video far and wide to end this injustice.

Dharma is for everyone and everyone has to choose what ever religion and beliefs. Political and racial differences should never be used as a reason to deny that to anyone. The Shugden issue has split Tibetan Buddhists in India, China, America, Europe and everywhere . It’s a great news when the Chinese government officially supports Dorje Shugden as they respect the rights of their citizens to choose the religion and belief of their choice. As they understand the history and background of the Dorje Shugden practice. For the past 20 years , it has injuriously divided the Tibetan people and Tibetan Buddhist adherents worldwide. And China has brought progress to the Tibetan people within the Tibet and to avoid disharmony and social unrest due to religious differences they respected all religions.
May the ban of Dorje Shugden will be lifted soon. Hopefully more countries like China will support and promote religion freedom to avoid disharmony and disunity.
Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for sharing the update.

Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for sharing the statement published from the Chinese Foreign Ministry that clearly, accurately and precisely allows their citizens, especially the Tibetans in Tibet Autonomous Region as well as in mainland China to embrace for religious freedom and show equal respect to all religions and sects. This statement has brought greater hopes, higher motivations and lasting perseverance to all Dorje Shugden practitioners as Dorje Shugden practice is currently being supported and backed by China. The current China has come from a long way with her 5000 years of history to become a powerful and respectful nation with the population of 1.2 billion people, that no other country would dare to ignore the voice of China at the present days. Hence, I believe now is the time for Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) to review their political strategies for not to continue to suppress Dorje Shugden practitioners or further split their own Tibetans between non-Shugden and Shugden practitioners as it only brings more damages to themselves rather than bringing them closer to their aimless goal, which is the independence of Tibet. Evidently, many developed and developing countries can see more of the benefits for Tibet to become part of the China as China can bring in more development into Tibet in many aspects such as economy, education, transportation system, tourism and most importantly, China can provide better welfare, peaceful and safe environment for those Tibetans who are staying in Tibet Autonomous Region.

I sincerely pray for H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama to live long with stable health and able to reunite with all Tibetans in Tibet Autonomous Region through peaceful dialogue and mutual respect with the Chinese government for the benefits of all Tibetans. May the ban of Dorje Shugden will be lifted soonest possible to allow Dorje Shugden practitioners to focus more in Buddhadharma practice and able to spread the practice of Dorje Shugden to the ten directions for the benefit of all sentient beings.

    Humbly with folded hands,

It is a great news that China provide and support religious freedom for his people. We should in fact learn from history that all the suppression from the colonial has never bring good effect but dividing, separating and creating disharmony towards to people which obviously for own political agenda. However, this type of suppression and discrimination does not end and clearly shown in the Dorje Shugden ban by CTA.

Andrew’s comment it is really spot on about the Dorje Shugden issue. The religious ban is purely and political play which has no basis and reflected badly on their governance which suppose to be practicing democratic. I hope the ban on Dorje Shugden will be lifted very soon with more countries supporting and promoting religion freedom.

  26. Irene Lim on Jan 11, 2018 at 2:45 pm

Andrew Korybko has hit the nail precisely on the Dorje Shugden controversy. China is progressive and modern and the response from the Chinese Foreign Ministry to Reuters clarify all. This is a bashing to the supposedly democratic CTA who now appeared hypocritical and suppressive.

It is high time that CTA change its policy on Dorje Shugden to align with China if CTA wish to support the Dalai Lama’s ‘Umaylam”. CTA must realise by bad mouthing and going against China will not achieve their goal and lobbying the West to aid their goal will be in vain.

  27. Edwin Tan on Jan 10, 2018 at 8:06 pm

This is really great news for China and all her citizens. This really destroys the farce that China suppresses religion.

I agree that all great nations should allow their citizens to practice any form of religion or believes they want.

China is really stepping up as an economic super power, and even leading the world in many revolutions and ideas. The statement from the Chinese government really shows just how small minded the CTA is and who really is the one suppressing freedom of religion.

  28. Lum Kok Luen on Jan 8, 2018 at 4:32 pm

This piece of news will dispel any wrong perceptions that the public have regarding the Chinese government supporting (be it spiritually or financially) of Dorje Shugden’s devotees.

The statement from China’s Foreign Ministry will definitely dispel any views, or accusation that is hurled at them. I believe that the CTA still refuses to read or to hear of such statements as will undermine their own credibility.

I am very glad that the Chinese Foreign Ministry is opening the market for such projects.

This is an interesting comment by Suzy on Rinpoche’s YouTube channels that indicates clearly that people have seen through the Tibetan leadership’s negative propaganda against Dorje Shugden. Suzy’s comment is honest and she acknowledged that she harbored negative thoughts about Dorje Shugden due to the Dalai Lama’s words. the only religions that should be abolished are the ones that cause harm and do not benefit society, religions that teach their adherents to kill, steal, lie and so on in the name of their religion – HOLD ON! Isn’t that what was happening in less enlightened times in Europe during the crusades? The Old Testament is filled wars, Romans initially persecuted Christians, then upon becoming Christian themselves persecuted all the pagans. Even in Tibet – Bon practitioners were persecuted, yet when they were in power they persecuted Buddhists, and now there are problems in Burma with persecuted Rohingyas, and the racist “monks” who encourage such discrimination . . . Vikings practised human sacrifice, that was stopped, Aztecs and Incas did the same – so calling for religious freedom for everyone we have to be careful not to give too much religious freedom to groups that might be practising such activities – incidences of human sacrifice are still being reported to this day, as well as forced conversions and all manner of other unethical conduct.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

CTA’s days of demonizing the Chinese Government could be at its dying throes. The Chinese Government could accomplish what CTA did not want and could not do, give religious freedoms to its citizens. Seems like the Chinese government has cleverly and with a lot of insight turned the tables on the CTA, by granting religious freedoms to Tibetans.

No one should ever suffer, be segregated, assaulted, hurt, degraded, belittled, cursed, hated and biased for their religious beliefs. No one should advise anyone against any religious belief. If we want to find people who hate a certain religion, we can find plenty. If we want to find people who like a certain religion or form of spirituality, there will be plenty. In the end who is right and wrong? Which religion is right or wrong. All or some or none? Therefore it is more logical to respect all religions, all faiths and all forms of spirituality. In history many have exploited religion for selfish purposes and many have not. As long as I have not, that is all that matters. I cannot and will not speak for others of my faith and what their motive is, but I know my motive. No one and no leader and no religious leader should ever hurt, segregate or speak against another religion. Time for peace. Time for harmony. Time for respect. Time to look beyond mine/your religion and be kind. Be kind to everyone. Never put anyone down because of their religion.

    Humbly,

    Tsem Rinpoche.

P.S. I wish very much the people from His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s views/side and people from the side of Dorje Shugden practitioners meet very soon. May they meet in peace, with kindness in the hearts and good motivation to solve this issue once and for all. We have to solve this through peaceful dialogue. I never protested against His Holiness Dalai Lama nor spoke harshly against his views ever. I have always respected his and everyone’s views. We all have to live on this earth together. You will not accept my way of spirituality and I will not accept your’s and that is okay. But we must respect each other’s spiritual faith and NEVER criticize or advise against it. We must respect also what we don’t accept. Everyone has their way. Advising against another’s religion/faith/spirituality creates so much disharmony. No more disharmony. It’s been 19 years since the ban against Dorje Shugden started. It must end please. We have so many things to argue about in this world, let’s make one less conflict. I wish this conflict to end peacefully soon. I wish His Holiness the Dalai Lama and supporters can open channels of communication and solve this issue soon. Peaceful dialogue please and soon. Thank you.

Being the world leader and largest economy superpower country China has announced officially that people should have the freedom to religion, this is indeed very good and exciting news to Dorje Shugden practitioner. We are no longer have to hide and live in fear for our lives. Under the influence of CTA and H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama, a ban was imposed on people who is practicing Dorje Shugden. They will be discriminated by the community, and life will be threatened.

Its wrong to ask someone to abandoned their heart practice, betray their lineage master and guru, because CTA and HHDL said so. Its wrong to discriminate our own people and threatening their life.

Now we can live in peace, and not to worries of anyone disagreeing our practices.

What an excellent news for China and all Dorje Shugden practioners whom suffering all these years and I believe with this great news the ban will be lifted very very soon. Yay!!!

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed this prayer to Dorje Shugden. His Holiness has full clairvoyance and knowledge of the nature of the deity he composed the prayer to when he was younger and when he is older as it is the same mind stream. So not logical His Holiness can make a mistake? If he can make mistakes about deities, then the mistakes cannot be limited to time span: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=61029

This is really exciting. Dorje Shugden has advised practitioners to remain steadfast and maintain good samaya with their Gurus so that good things will arise. These latest development of events with world powers like China and USA is a loud indication that Dorje Shugden’s promises are coming true.

The world is willing to please China by distancing themselves from Tibet and the Dalai Lama. Now…will they also be prepared to embrace, promote and accept Dorje Shugden to please China? Very exciting news.

This is such good news from China. Giving religious freedom is a basic human right and i am most happy that China has announced religious freedom for everone. The text from the Chinese Governmebt is clear and points out the violence against Dorje Shugden practitioners. Also the way Dorje Shugden practitioners have been forced to abandon their practice.

Also political analyst and journalist points How millions of Dorje Shugden practitioners are called “infidels” by H.H. the Dalai Lama and that the Dalai Lama himself respected and worshipped Dorje Shugden for many years and also in his previous lives.

Thank You for sharing these good news.
May the ban end very soon and everyone have religious freedom including Dorje Shugden practitioners!

  42. Jason king on Dec 27, 2015 at 8:24 pm

In a world that is becoming more seamless China has definitely grasped onto humanitarianism which appears to be dwindling from a section of Buddhist community led by The 14th Dalai Lama and this segment of religious bigots that seemingly touts violent and separatist movements against Dorje Shugden practitioners, contrary to the tenets of a religion that is synonymous with compassion and wisdom.

People have the right to the truth and this article is just what they need. Thank you for sharing this incredibly wonderful news.

  43. Lucas Roth on Dec 27, 2015 at 8:15 pm

This is good news because I can see that this is going to help the people suffering from this religious tyranny. This is truly a very terrible matter because people are being denied freedom. Then they are ignored as this is not a “world issue” even though it is a big deal. But China is a major superpower and this is going to help and this says something because of their history and how they have and are changing to be better as mentioned in the article. Their words can help this case a lot.

My favourite part of this article is how western countries change to connect to China and they reach out to support them so they will be able to make business deals. So that means that there will be more people following this matter. People that will see truth that China sees now.

Even though I did not understand a lot about the politics, I can see the good that can come from this. There will be help to resolve this and those people suffering are not ignored.

China could have done their soul searching. It is said, “Sweetness brings a smile to all faces, humility a grace, kindness a softness, love a suppleness, truth a confidence and purity a nobleness”. Dorje Shugden is specially mentioned as a protecting diety who has been worshipped throughout history in the Tibetan Buddhism. Whether to believe or not in the protecting diety, Dorje Shugden, is said to be totally a free and private matter for religious followers. As human beings, we are not just made of flesh and bones. Our real self-makeup by definition is not material. We are also a living energy; both a spark and a light. Knowing that the “soul” is indeed eternal and will live forever, ever gives “solace to many”, with all the pains and conflicts in the world of today. I believe China realised it is really time to “kiss and make-up!” In the words of Mahatma Gandhi,”an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”. Many have said, “We have wasted too much time and energy in negative thoughts with feelings of revenge, regrets and finally sorrows!” This is where the soul now needs to catch up. Thank you Rinpoche for your sharing of your ever enlightening teachings! Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

Andrew Korybko really hit the nail in because whatever that was reported is very weak as no evidence was produced. It is really not befitting for a credible global news reporting media like Reuters to published such news without proper evidences, making huge allegations towards the world’s biggest super power nation with only just ‘one’ interview with a disgruntle monks testimony? And how would we even know if this monk was telling the truth?

Andrew put to question Reuters news reporting and professionalism because it lacks evidence and investigation which he dares says so because he himself has done his homework and boy did he managed to dig up a whole lot of truth. And like we always say… the truth is definitely out there….!

Andrew highlighted to people how if they even knew about the sectarianism going on with the Tibetan Leadership mainly the Dalai Lama and he logically explains how the illogical ban came about suddenly when the current Dalai Lama decided to one day stop practicing it.

And this point is really a good one for Reuters reporter to think and for the anyone in general actually wishes for a more unbiased opinion: Reuters has taken a flamboyant and false stand that they are somehow all paid by Beijing and under its influence.

Andrew has really help raised awareness and expose some truth about the REAL Dorje Shugden issue on another level. His report states how clearly it shows many have been fed with misinformation about Dorje Shugden. Just because you do not “like” China, that does not mean we can or should manufacture some kind or any kind of anti-Chinese pro-Dalai Lama message, no matter the consequences it has for any logic involved whatsoever. Right on Andrew and I really really hope the Tibetan Leadership sees this as well!

And Reuters for your reputation sake really hope it was a misled because it does not look good at all. Perhaps another article apologising for the lake of evidence of their news reporting and all the allegations which they could be sued for due to the lack of evidence?

    Dear Rinpoche,

It is great to hear that China is moving into the right direction of respecting everyone’s faith. This is one of the main reasons the west is pressing China where they claim China is not practicing the human rights, but China is now improving (as mentioned in the article, China cannot just practice the freedom in the west immediately because of the cultural differences). But on contrary, CTA has not improved a bit.

Again, the issue is not about Dorje Shugden is Buddha or spirit. It is about the government/administration to give religion freedom.

On the other hand, I agree that many people do not really understand the entirety of the situation about Dorje Shugden, and reports should educate themselves before publishing their articles.

The voice response from Mr Korybko is a very interesting one, though a bit drama. 🙂

  47. sweekeong on Dec 27, 2015 at 1:42 am

As I read this peace I thought “What about you Reuters?” “Are you not also into Shugden practitioner smearing?” In fact as a new agency one should not even mention ‘Shugden practitioner’ as such and as such. It is so misleading. This is a discrimination against faithful practitioners who are not involved into politics.

VIP monk? Isn’t Dalai Lama treated as a VIP too. There is nothing wrong treating religious with respect. What is the logic? What is it implying? Bad?

Reuters reported Lama Tseta took money from China to fund the movement activities overseas. A monk should not involve in politics and money. How can I trust a religious person who claimed he is taking money for political purpose? I don’t know why Reuters can use this information as authoritative. Furthermore it is mentioned that he took pictures with Gangchen Rinpoche. This is getting ridiculous.

Every religion, tradition, sec would have people who don’t practice or deviate from the teachings. No longer can we generalize the action of one as the actions of everyone.

I think Reuters can do better by covering the ongoing ban on Dorje Shugden practitioners and human rights issue in the Tibetan in exiled.

  48. Pastor Henry Ooi on Dec 27, 2015 at 1:09 am

It would greatly benefit the Tibetan people if their leaders in Dharamsala put an end to the ban on Dorje Shugden and focus more on consolidating Tibetans rather than segregating them over a religious issue. By now they should realise it is an issue of religious freedom and human rights instead of calling people who practice Dorje Shugden ‘demon’ worshipers. The ban on Dorje Shugden practice has not benefited Tibetans and the Dalai Lama should call of the ban. It is sad to see the Dalai Lama, a Nobel laureate, denied meetings by the government of other countries. The CTA should work hard to win back the broken hearts of those Tibetans who are unjustly treated and who are suffering from the segregation. Unlike the CTA who continue to live in the dark ages, unwilling to move on with modernity, China has changed tremendously and her people are benefitting so much from advanced infra structures, better financial gains, religious freedom. This is good governance.

I am so happy to hear about China central government announced that her citizens have full freedom on their belief. That included the government of Tibet Autonomous Region fully respect the rights of citizens to freedom of belief. This is truly a great news of the year for me.

I cannot believe that China government even mentioned directly on Dorje Shugden issues. I agreed with what H.E. The 25th Tsem Tulku Rinpoche said above that China is moving toward a very civilise and correct direction as a leading country in the world, she is definitely doing the right thing. I am sure this will only create more harmony and peace not only among her citizens but people around the world especially the Dorje Shugden practitioners who have been suppressed by Daramsara.

I am so grateful that China central government openly recognised that Dorje Shugden is a Protecting Deity who has been worshipped by many secs of many schools of Tibetan Buddhism. I think this announcement showed that China central government is taking this seriously to protect her citizens’s freedom. Can you imagine that even China is promoting religions freedom, how can Daramsara not?

I rejoice very much for millions of the Dorje Shugden practitioners all over the world. This news meant a lot to me where i see light and peace coming from China. China is open up her big arms to welcome more Tibetans to be back to Tibet and continue their Dorje Shugden practice or whatever practices they believe in joyfully and peacefully. I think this statement or announcement by The Central Government of China has made everything so clear. I rejoice tremendously.

I do think Daramsara should seriously look into the Dorje Shugden issues. Why chose to go against China alone? As aholy Buddhist monk who uses His whole life to talk about world peace, don’t you think world peace is just right in front of you but you chose to ignore it?

Dorje Shugden is a true and powerful Dharma Protector who has given to me by my Guru H.E. The 25th Tsem Tulku Rinpoche a few years ago. Many miracles Dorje Shugden had showed to me. I must say He had guarded me and my family so closely just like a father to his only child. I am very grateful to Rinpoche that He never give up even though He faced a lot of pressure by His own monastery, not being able to see and serve His own Gurus, and even life threatened issues everyday but continue to do the right the thing. Because of Rinpoche’s determination and believe in Dorje Shugden, today many people has been benefited especially we as Rinpoche’s students.

  52. jpthong on Dec 25, 2015 at 10:11 pm

This is such good news for China and her citizens. China is a world powerhouse that continues to have tremendous influence globally just like how she was for the last 5,000 years. As Rinpoche wrote, “The dragon is rising and will fly high in the sky.”

China has always been on the firing line with regards to human rights issues. With this recent official declaration that clearly supports religious freedom and the acknowledgment of Dorje Shugden as the dharma protector, western countries will have to strike religious freedom off their list from their issues with China.

Regardless of the criticizms that western countries have been making towards China, China through sheer determination have arisen as the worlds largest economy. Tough decisions had to be made throughout the decades which invited many harsh criticizms from the west. But, results speaker louder than words. China’s success as a country outshines all her past and most countries want to be her friend now for obvious reasons.

CTA has failed miserably and there is nothing that they can do to get back Tibet. Their results speak louder than words. They can either stay status quo with their archaic points of view for the sake of being righteous, or they evolve just like the rest of the western countries and be friends with China.

Removing the ban on Dorje Shudgen will be one of the things CTA can do now as the world is realizing their illegal discrimination of religious practices.

China is the only country that spoke against the discrimination of the worship of Dorje Shugden. I do not believe it is to create schism among Tibetans, after all Tibetans in Tibet are Chinese citizens and they have the freedom to worship Dorje Shugden. It is to rectify the schism and chaos caused by Tibetans in exile that the Chinese Government, being a world power feel the need to protect the right to freedom of worship and religion.

When the Chinese government speaks of this freedom it is due to research and study and clear understanding of the history of Dorje Shugden.

It is time for the Dalai Lama and Government to consider not wasting efforts to suppress Dorje Shugden worship but to gear such efforts to being reconciliatory towards China.

  55. Pastor Elena Khong Jean Ai on Dec 25, 2015 at 3:20 am

I suppose the most standout thing about this statement is the absolute irony of the whole matter.

As a supposedly Buddhist government supposedly embodying Dharma and non-violent principles, Dharamsala are now the ones suppressing freedoms. And as a government for whom atheism is enshrined in their constitution, China’s government makes a statement acknowledging religion and religious freedom.

The Chinese leadership have changed dramatically from the 1950s when it was easy for the world to turn them into a bogeyman. They went from a poverty and famine-stricken nation, into an economic powerhouse and political force to be reckoned with. As time passes, we only see improvements. Dharamsala on the other hand, continues to degenerate and more and more, they take on the qualities of what they accuse China of.

So what if the improvements are not altruistic in nature, and for their own benefit? I saw on Facebook someone accusing China of making this statement for their own benefit, and that it’s not about supporting Dorje Shugden. You know what? Find me a government that DOESN’T make statements for their own benefit, and I’ll find you a pink alligator!

People accuse China of doing it for economic gain. Find me a government that NEVER acts for their own economic gain and I’ll…well, you get the picture.

The fact that China can make a statement about religious freedom instead of ignoring the issue (which they have every right to do and which they have done in the past) tells you changes are afoot in the Dragon of the East. Let’s not impress upon them Western ideals of democracy, which the West have had the opportunity to develop over thousands of years, hundreds of which were spent “democratising” half the world and, let’s face it, resulted in the scores of conflict we see around the globe today. Their principles of democracy were never consistent to begin with. As Rinpoche once pointed out to me, even the birthplace of democracy, Greece, was never truly democratic to begin with, where slaves were not allowed to vote.

  56. Joy on Dec 24, 2015 at 10:34 pm

Really a brilliant news to receive, read and a must share! And if Dharamsala still doesn’t get it… the more they ban Dorje Shugden, the more their wishes will backfire. Look even the world’s largest nation and leading super power is giving religious freedom for all, and people are allowed this freedom of choice in what they wish to practice or not, Dharmasala what are you offering your people besides more disunity and disharmony. It seems like staying in China and being a China citizen you have MORE RIGHTS, and you are more protected! So why even bother to “fight” for independence.

If Dharmasala could not even manage their own people and instead create more problems for them now in exile, causing segregation amongst Tibetans, what makes them think they can lead the Tibetans in Tibet and if Tibet were to be given back to them, how do you think they’ll manage. How they will manage we can see from how they are doing now… which is not much and quite sad actually.

I really do not understand how on earth can the Tibetan leadership claim to be democratic yet puts a ban on a 400 plus old practice? How can they put a ban on their own people? And this is coming from a Buddhist nation where compassion is suppose to be the main practice?

This is perhaps the biggest contradiction the Tibetan leadership has done openly and publicly and they do nothing to stop the abuse, discrimination, and conflict amongst Tibetans. It fact it is encouraged by them. Hence it makes us wonder what other contradicting policies have they created and done? So why should anyone feel safe and trust in their leadership? Even if Tibet was given back to them? It would be scary! They will lead their people to more disharmony and disunity because they are already doing it now. So much hypocrisy yet religious freedom, tolerance, harmony is being preached.

Now with China making a very clear and firm stand on where they are at and by giving and protecting their people’s rights to religious freedom, it marks a huge progress that will bring further prosperity to their people, making the Tibetan leadership look even worst than ever before.

I agree with Rinpoche if the Tibetan leadership were any smarter they would change their failed strategy and stop condemning Dorje Shugden practice, lift the ban and also start learning how to respect China and be friends so that they can have some say on Tibet. But is the Tibetan leaders willing to practice real compassion and wisdom for the sake of their people, or continue with their empty hot air talks landing on death ears for self gain, and getting a few paid westerners to go online to do their bidding, making them look like a bunch of desperate housewives? So is the CTA really for the people or for themselves? that is the question.

  58. Sarah on Dec 24, 2015 at 4:33 pm

China’s liberal policy towards religious practice in general and the practice of Dorje Shugden in particular is very good news indeed! The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s statement that belief in the Protector deity Dorje Shugden is a “free and private matter” is totally in compliance with international human rights. The ban on the practice of Dorje Shugden by the Tibetan authorities in Dharamsala is archaic and unlawful and must be removed as soon as possible.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. There is a belief in rebirth

Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
