They were not wrong

Dear fellow friends,

Our team has compiled 205 teachers, masters, yogis, geshes, mahasiddhas, lineage holders of various schools of Buddhism that practiced or was affiliated closely to Dorje Shugden. We have taken interviews and information from over 100 people including high lamas, abbots, abbot emeriti, former monks, senior monks, students of illustrious masters and attendants of masters in Gaden, Sera and Drepung Monasteries. They have attested that the 205 masters listed here are practicing, have been practicing, were practicing or are closely associated with groups that practice Dorje Shugden. Some may have ‘given’ up their practice due to political pressure from the Tibetan leadership. In Tibetan society, you don’t want to be seen as going against the leadership or there will be negative repercussions as it’s not a democratic society. But the majority have kept up their practice in secret to avoid stigma like many other cases of religious persecution in world history. We have met senior monks who have been practicing Dorje Shugden for over 70 years and have no intention of giving up their practice of this protector.

Some of the masters we have listed, such as the current Sakya Trizin, understand the practice of Dorje Shugden has been in their Sakya lineage for over 400 years. It is said by monks of Buxa that the current Sakya Trizin made offerings to Dorje Shugden prior to the ban in 1996. In fact some of the great previous Sakya Throne-holders in the past encouraged the practice of Dorje Shugden we can see from their writings. There are quite a few Sakya monasteries in Tibet that have been propitiating Dorje Shugden for centuries and remain doing so till present times. This disproves Dorje Shugden only helps Gelugs, which is preposterous. There are even masters who have practiced Dorje Shugden but have gone ‘underground’ with their practice to avoid the scorn of the Tibetan leadership. Some of the lamas we have here have ‘given up’ Dorje Shugden after a lifetime of propitiating him, but they are listed here because they have spent more years in the practice of Dorje Shugden than not practicing. So this list includes a few who have practiced but in the current political times, have ‘given up’ the practice. Tens of thousands in the Gelug monasteries such as Drepung, Sera, Gaden, Tashi Lhunpo, etc. practiced Dorje Shugden. Many masters listed here would also have thousands of students, both lay and ordained, in Tibet and all over the world. So you can see Dorje Shugden practice was not a minor or small practice. As long as these masters have practiced Dorje Shugden at any point of their lives, they are included in this collection.

How can so many masters who are learned, erudite in debates, masters of philosophy, even some very highly attained in their meditations, be mistaken in their practice of Dorje Shugden? Could it be that Dorje Shugden is negative and tricked every single one of these masters for 400 years? If Dorje Shugden can fool so many masters of this calibre, then it does not say much for these masters, does it? Then we can’t rely on their teachings either. Remember, the masters listed here are just a small fraction of well-known lamas who practice Dorje Shugden as there are hundreds more. There are so many masters in this list with advanced meditation skills who would have surely seen the ‘evil’ nature of Dorje Shugden, yet they practiced Dorje Shugden and even encouraged their students to follow suit. Having had positive meditational experiences with Dorje Shugden, some even wrote prayers, praises and commentaries to Dorje Shugden. With deepest respects to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, but how he can be the only one right and all these masters wrong about the practice of Dorje Shugden? That is not logical. If you gain a certain ability or level in meditation, then whoever you are, you will be endowed with the same psychic abilities to discern which being is negative or positive. So how can so many masters who can have the same attainments as the Dalai Lama be fooled by this one tricky Dorje Shugden for 400 years? The Dalai Lama is high in rank as he is the leader of Tibet, but in terms of spiritual meditation, there are other masters just as attained and equal to the Dalai Lama. Attainments, meditational abilities and psychic powers are not confined to rank or to the status of a person. We are going on the basis that the Dalai Lama is highly attained in his meditations.

So the purpose of this post is to explain that there are so many great realized masters who claim that Dorje Shugden is Manjushri and extremely beneficial which he is and we should trust these masters as their numbers are many. How can so many masters be wrong about Dorje Shugden? They couldn’t be wrong as they are very learned and highly attained in their meditations. They taught that Dorje Shugden is an emanation of Manjushri who can help any individual regardless of your background. Manjushri has no bias or prejudices. Dorje Shugden is Manjushri and an extremely beneficial practice. When you rely on Dorje Shugden, over time, you will see the beneficial influence he has in your life as a close friend, mentor and protector who is always ready to help you. And many great masters for 400 years have attested to this being true.

Kyabje Denma Gonsa Rinpoche
on guru devotion

Or view the video on the server at:
https://video.tsemtulku.com/videos/DenmaGonsaRinpocheGuruDevotion.mp4

Translation:

At this time, we see guru devotion in the great monasteries, it is like a vessel leaking. At this time, in the four great monasteries, I see the first [in guru devotion] is Tashi Lhunpo. I am not flattering. The better one is Tashi Lhunpo monks.

Before, Sera has a lot of monks joining…

(video breaks abruptly)

…What I am teaching you today, this is correct or not correct, you must examine. If it is correct, you must practice. If it is not correct, then you can discard it. That is okay.

In brief, you all must carefully examine Lama Tsongkhapa’s Dharma. Apart from that, at this time, Lama Tsongkhapa’s Dharma is like a butter lamp in the strong wind. It has very nearly extinguished, like that. Now you all must carefully examine Lama Tsongkhapa’s Dharma, must carefully examine Lama Tsongkhapa’s Dharma. Do you understand?

If you practise the Protector [referring to Dorje Shugden], you do the practice. If you don’t practise, you don’t do the practice. This is no problem. If you practise, say it very clearly – “I do the practice.” If you don’t practice, say it very clearly – “I don’t do the practice.” Don’t be two-faced.

Must have unity and solidarity. Do you understand? Then good. Then it will be useful that we are monks and stay in the big monasteries. [meaning if they are monks but have no unity, it will not be useful]

At night, all our virtues we must dedicate to enlightenment and the growth of Buddha Dharma, and all the holy masters’ long life, and make aspirational prayers for the growth of Lama Tsongkhapa’s combined sutric and tantric Dharma and for it to remain for a long time. Do you understand?

And if you are a Dorje Shugden practitioner, make aspirational prayers for Dorje Shugden’s blessings to spread all around the world. If you are not a Dorje Shugden practitioner, make aspirational prayers for all protectors’ blessings to be timely and for the Buddha Dharma to grow.

Then good. Then all of you work towards mental unity and pure vows. Please practise well. That’s all, thank you. Finish.

Dorje Shugden has been practiced over 400 years by many great masters. How can Dorje Shugden suddenly become evil spirits and able to harm HH the 14th Dalai Lama? 2 aspects to look into this matter.

One: Since they are so many great and highly attaint masters have been practicing how can they not able to know if Dorje Shugden is harmful? These great masters have taken continuous rebirth to come back to continue to spread the dharma to benefit many people. If Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit, aren’t those who practice him should go to hell instead of taking rebirth and being recognized by the high lama and some even recognize by HH the 14th Dalai Lama himself.

Two: HH the 14th Dalai Lama is known as the emanation of Chenrezig. How could a Buddha not see Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit from the beginning and only much later HH realized Dorje Shugden is a harmful spirit? Isn’t this putting down HH attainment? And if this is really true, does it mean that whatever HH said earlier it could be a mistake just like how he sees Dorje Shugden? Which is which now?

I would choose to believe Dorje Shugden is an enlightened protector that able to help many people at this time which has been adviced by my guru. Further looking at the facts and how many great lamas been practicing this protector, it’s just reaffirmed that this protector will only bring benefits to us.

Great work by the blog team for compiling all information of 205 teachers, masters, yogis, geshes, mahasiddhas, lineage holders of various schools of Buddhism that practiced or was affiliated closely to Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden who have been propitiated by many high lamas for more than 400 years. If Dorje Shugden is a evil spirit as claimed by some, how can so many great lamas be tricked and that means all along all those highly attained are wrong. They are not wrong ,they are right in the first place. The CTA has instituted the ban against Dorje Shugden causing disharmony and disunity among the Tibetans communities. The ban of Dorje Shugden is illogical and may the ban against Dorje Shugden practitioners be lifted soon. Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for this great work! May all DS practitioners unite to lift the ban as soon as possible so that many may practice without fear and worry .United we stand, together we succeed!??????✌️⭐️☀️?

Mantras are sacred verbalized words that invoke the protection and blessings of the deity to whom the mantra is ascribed. Mantras are also the manifestations of Buddhas in the form of ‘sounds’, hence the various mantras of Dorje Shugden contain the essence of the Protector.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

“The 4th Zhabdrung Rinpoche of Bhutan and Dorje Shugden” blog post which was published June 8, 2018 already has exactly at the moment 152,744 views!! Over 150k views!!! Amazing!! The views will keep growing as time elapses of course.

This indicates many Bhutanse and Buddhists around the world will now know that Dorje Shugden is connected to Bhutan and their Kagyu Lineage. Dorje Shugden was promoted by the highest lama of Bhutan namely the 4th Zhabdrung Rinpoche himself. So Dorje Shugden will help and protect anyone and is not sectarian as they accuse him to be. People in the Kagyu school of Buddhism also practised Dorje Shugden and Dorje Shugden assisted them lovingly. Dorje Shugden being an emanation of Manjushri will help anyone who calls upon him regardless of their background and religion.

Good job to our writers, researchers, editors, technical team, supporting team and Kechara people who promoted this blog post on social media. Now more will come to understand how pervasive Dorje Shugden is in all the lineages of Tibetan Buddhism although the Tibetan leadership in-exile tries to hide this truth. Thank you everyone for promoting Dorje Shugden to benefit many. We were all very harmonious before the unethical ban against Dorje Shugden practitioners. Since the inception of the ban in 1996, there has been no benefits and instead so much disharmony among Tibetan Buddhists around the world. Many hundreds have spoken up about this point where we want harmony back. There should never be a ban against any spiritual practice.

His Eminence Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche’s incarnation is in Lhasa visiting. He is visiting the 350-year-old Trode Khangsar chapel dedicated to Dorje Shugden. He is paying homage to the powerful statue of Dorje Shugden housed in this sacred chapel. Both the chapel and statue of Dorje Shugden were commissioned by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama. The Great 5th Dalai Lama also composed a prayer to be recited daily to Dorje Shugden.

Dagom Rinpoche’s previous lives were great masters, scholars and practitioners of Dorje Shugden. Now this new incarnation of Dagom Rinpoche is offering gold on the face of Dorje Shugden in homage and worship to this very sacred statue of Dorje Shugden housed in Lhasa for the last 350 years. This is a very traditional Tibetan method of paying homage to holy images, which is by offering gold with prayers.

The Tibetan leadership wrongly says if you practise Dorje Shugden you will take rebirth into the three lower realms. Hundreds of lamas from the Sakya, Kagyu and Gelugpa schools of Buddhism have practised Dorje Shugden and their incarnations returned. Many of the incarnations are recognised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself. So this shows if you practise Dorje Shugden, only benefits come and no harm will come. The very fact Dagom Rinpoche’s incarnation is back, is clear evidence that Dorje Shugden’s practice is beneficial.

May Dagom Rinpoche’s current incarnation live a very long life.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is in Dharamsala, which is broken into two parts. Upper Dharamsala is where the Dalai Lama’s palace is located with his audience room and main prayer hall. It is also the location of the Dialectics School, Gaden Shartse’s guesthouse, restaurants, tourist hotels and main tourist areas.

A short ride down takes you to the lower part of Dharamsala where the Tibetan government is located. It is the location of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Nechung monastery, the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, the Tibetan arts centre…it’s all in one area. And the reason why it’s split into upper and lower Dharamsala is because the area is mountainous.

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives was established by the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government to preserve all the ancient texts – both secular and spiritual – of Tibet and in the process, translate them into various languages like English. This book, Overview of Buddhist Tantra, by Panchen Sonam Drakpa was one of the books translated into English. What’s very interesting is that the book very clearly says that Panchen Sonam Drakpa’s previous life is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, one of the five main disciples of Lama Tsongkhapa. It also says that after that, he was Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen.

So the book is basically saying that Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, Panchen Sonam Drakpa and Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen – the three Drakpas – are of the same mindstream.

Now that’s very peculiar because if Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen’s previous life is Panchen Sonam Drakpa, the renowned composer of 45 volumes of Dharma texts, the abbot of three monasteries AND the 15th Gaden Tripa, the holder of Lama Tsongkhapa’s throne…if that’s the case, how can Panchen Sonam Drakpa take rebirth as Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen and become an evil spirit and have a negative mind?

Prior to Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, he was Panchen Sonam Drakpa and before that, he was Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, a heart disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa. How can a heart disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa reincarnate as the erudite master Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and then die and reincarnate as Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen…and then Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, due to a bad and negative prayer, become the evil spirit Dorje Shugden? How is that possible? Logically, it’s not.

What’s incredible is that all of this was printed by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives under the Dalai Lama’s guidance. They contradict themselves because on one hand, the Tibetan leaders say Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit. On the other hand they’re printing a book saying that Panchen Sonam Drakpa, whose later incarnation became Dorje Shugden, is of this illustrious mindstream.

So how can the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, which is under the auspices of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government, print the translation of a book composed by the previous incarnation of a so-called evil spirit? How can they then say in the book that Panchen Sonam Drakpa’s previous life is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, and his next life was Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen?

Prior to the Dorje Shugden ban and controversy, everyone in Tibet knew that Dorje Shugden is Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, that Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen is Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and that Panchen Sonam Drakpa is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen. The three Drakpas, they are one mindstream emanating again and again to benefit other beings.

And as we all know, Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen became Dorje Shugden so it totally doesn’t make sense to call him an evil spirit, then highlight all of his previous lives as erudite masters, and publish all of this information under their own library. So you can see the contradictions. You can read all of this for yourself in Overview of Buddhist Tantra, which was printed by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.

    BY
    PANCHEN SONAM DRAGPA
    (Pan-chen bSod-nams grags-pa, 1478-1554)

    O Choje Sonam Dragpa Pel! (Chos-rje bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal!)
In the vast expanse of Your bodhi-mind,
The mind that the Buddhas have lauded for as many as
    one hundred times,
You have developed “merit” shining like the sun.
Through Your skill in learning, debate and writing,
As illuminating as one hundred thousand sun rays,
You have developed in You a complete knowledge of
    the entire sutras and tantras,
Resembling a garden of flowers in full bloom.
    The power of Your speech is like the sun;
The fame of your name has reached the three realms of
    this world.
O Sonam Dragpa, the teacher of teachers!
I bow down at your feet.

In the vast garden of Your great teachings,
The intelligent young people gather for
The ‘six ultimates’ and the ‘four modes of transmission,’
Just as they are attracted to
The one hundred thousand types of nectar
Dripping from a flower of one hundred petals.
May I be able to experience
The taste of the secret tantra!

Panchen Choje Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen Chos-rje bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal), the holder of sutra and Vajrayana teachings, was a master whose outstanding learning and spiritual accomplishments are well known by all the learned ones in Tibet. His first incarnation came in the form of one of the five prestigious disciples of Lord Tsongkhapa (Tsong-kha-pa) and became known as Vinaya Holder (Dulzin) Dragpa Gyaltsen (Gragspa rgyal-mtshan). Then came Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal), the author of the present text. The next was Nagri Tulku Dragpa Gyaltsen (mNga’-ris sPrul-sku Grags-pa rgyal-mtshan). In this way, a line of his incarnations, each with the Dragpa (gragspa) surname, followed successively.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) was born in the 14th century in Tsetang (rTsed-thang) in the Lhoka (Lho-kha) region of Central Tibet. He entered the great seat of learning, Sera Thekchenling (Se-ra theg-chen-gling) monastic university, where he became the personal disciple of spiritual master Donyo Dangden (Dhon-yod dang-ldan) and His Holiness the Second Dalai Lama Gedun Gyatso (dGe-‘dun rgya-mtsho). Under them, he studied the entire teachings of sutra, tantra and their commentaries, and became known for his outstanding learning. He also received from them the empowerments, reading transmissions, guides and instructions of the entire body of spiritual training. On becoming the fully blessed one, the Dalai Lama appointed him the abbot of the Loseling (Blo-gsalgling) college, one of the four colleges of Drepung (‘Bras-dpung)- the most prestigious monastic university in Tibet before 1959, with over 10,000 monks on its register. He continued to be the abbot of this college for the next six years; and after him the tenure for each of his successors in this position was fixed for a period of six years, a rule that is followed even today.

He was then appointed the head of the Gelugpa (dGe-lugs-pa) order, the throne holder of Gaden (dGa’-ldan), thus becoming the 15th regent of Lord Tsongkhapa (Tsong-khapa), the second Buddha. In his eulogy to him, Khedrub Gelek Pelsang (mKhas-grub dGe-legs dpal- bzang) says:

O Lama, the second successor of the Unsubduable One,
The regent of the Lord of Dharma,
    You are the one who made the virtuous qualities thrive;
You are the one who ascended to the golden throne uplifted
    by the fearless lions.
    May Your success thrive forever!

He continued to be the throne holder for the next seven years, during which time he promoted the spread of Lord Tsongkhapa’s (Tsong-kha-pa) precious teachings, the Gelug (dGe-lugs) tradition, across the land in all directions. He also paid special attention to the practice of monastic rules and the learning and meditation of Buddhism in the monasteries such as Sera (Se-ra), Drepung (‘Bras-spungs), Kyomolung (sKyo-mo-lung), Phagmo Chode (Phag-mo chos-sde), Nyeding (Nye-sdings), Ödna (’Od-sna) and Chöde Rinchen (Chos-sde rin-chen) etc. and improved them to a great extent. He taught the Third Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso (bSod-nams rGya-mtsho) as the latter’s spiritual master. It was from him that the Dalai Lama received the name Sonam (bSod-nams).

His contributions in the literary field are enormous; and, indeed, they are the most valuable of all his contributions. Tsongkhapa (Tsong-kha-pa) has rightly said:

    Of all one’s deeds,
The ‘deeds of speech’ are the most valuable.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) was a person with an extraordinary talent for teaching, debate and writing. In his colophon to Bu mey chi don zab don sel wey dron mey (dBu ma’i spyi don zab don gsal ba’i sgron me), he wrote:

In the field of teaching, I am [next to none!] Knowing that
I would outdo them in this field, Arya Asanga and his
    brother transmigrated into another realm.

In the field of debate, I am [next to none!] Knowing that
I would find out the areas they had contradicted and
that I would examine them and put forth my arguments,
the logician Dignaga (Digh-naga) and Dharmakirti tactfully
    bypassed me.

In the field of writing, I am [next to none!] [In my eyes,]
Arya-sura was just good at spreading the works, which
are like ‘disputes~ between an insect and a field.’

I am the learned man. Peerless in the field of teaching,
    debate and writing!

For some this passage might sound utterly nonsensical, but the most learned master of our age, the talented teacher, logician and writer, the late tutor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Yongdzin Trijang Dorjechang (Yongs-‘dzin Khri-byang rDorje-‘Chang), said: “Now, some people of our time, who consider themselves learned scholars, think that this is utter nonsense; but they are wrong.”

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) wrote over 45 volumes of books dealing with many different subjects, such as the commentaries on the sutras and tantras, the saddhana manuals of the tutelary deities, history, religious history and so forth. Among these, one that is very important for all who wish to learn and meditate on the path-of the practical aspect of Buddhism in general and that of Vajrayana in particular is the Leg shey gyu de chi nam par shagpa kelsang gi yi trod (Legs bshad rgyud sde spyi’i rnam par bzhag pa skal bzang gi yid ‘phrod). In this book, he has explained precisely how the four tantras differ from one another. He has also fully described the stages of the two spontaneous path practices of the Vajrayana tradition, dealing with the ‘six ultimates’ and the ‘four modes of transmission’, thus interpreting without mistake the intention of Adhi-Buddha Vajradhara.

May the reprint of this text, which the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is publishing herewith, bring peace and happiness in this world!

COMPASSION at its best: His Holiness the Dalai Lama explained in Ladakh, 31 July 2018:

“Usually at the beginning of an empowerment there is a ritual to drive away interferences. But I no longer feel it’s consistent to regard some beings as evil forces. At the start of each day I cultivate altruism, but in the evening we say, ‘May the evil forces be driven away.’ There seems to be a contradiction here that I’m no longer keen to comply with. I’m not highly realized, but I have great confidence in the power of Bodhichitta.”

    ———————————————-

This latest statement by His Holiness the Dalai Lama is excellent. I fully believe in his compassion and I hope he will fully implement it.

All negative beings take rebirth with negative minds due to deep attachments. The attachments result in negative states of rebirth and angry minds that carry out harmful actions, like spirits or hungry ghosts who can be very bothersome because they are very angry as they died in the state of attachment in their former rebirths.

Indeed we need to generate compassion towards these beings, especially the formless type, as it would be the best remedy to stop their harm. We can recite mantras with love and bless them with it. While reciting prayers, we can meditate on them being at peace. When we generate compassion towards these harmful interferences of the formless type, many of them will calm down and stop their harm and even go away. Some of them, you can talk to them and subdue their harm and they will stop harming completely if they feel your love. That is how you can help them.

Many high masters of India and Tibet generated great compassion towards certain ghosts, spirits or interferers and subdued them in this manner and even made them into protectors of regions. I’ve witnessed this with one of my lamas where he subdued a female spirit that crossed over the Himalayas. After making the spirit promise it will not harm others, my lama gave the spirit a drink to seal the promise.

Since the Dalai Lama has manifested saying Dorje Shugden is negative (although many high lamas disagree), then he can apply this method to Dorje Shugden. He can ‘subdue’ Dorje Shugden by generating tremendous love, prayers and talking nice to Dorje Shugden who will be ‘subdued’. Then people are henceforth ‘free’ to practice Dorje Shugden without more discrimination, segregation and being called degrading names for practicing this protector.

Give peace a chance. His Holiness the Dalai Lama can generate great love towards Dorje Shugden and all the hundreds of thousands of Dorje Shugden practitioners that love the Dalai Lama and miss him like I do. May His Holiness the Dalai Lama bring peace and heal the rift with Dorje Shugden practitioners.

May His Holiness live very long and always be healthy,

Rejoice to read about so many great Dorje Shugden practitioners who are monks and used their entire life to practice the Dharma. How could they be possibly wrong?

Dorje Shugden is one practice among other Buddhist practices. Why should this one practice be wrong? Why should these great practitioners be wrong about one practice and not realising it?

And why do they not go to the three lower realms as said by those who banned the practice. So many practitioners of Dorje Shugden have taken a perfect human rebirth and continue tirelessly to benefit sentient beings.

May the controversy around Dorje Shugden end so that more people can benefit from this practice. There is no reason whatsoever to believe that Dorje Shugden is not a Buddha. He is the emanation of the wisdom Buddha Manjushri. May all be cared for by Dorje Shugden in all their lives.

  13. Yee Yin on Aug 12, 2018 at 3:37 am

The Dorje Shugden practitioners on the list in the article are not ordinary people, they are Geshes and Rinpoches, all of them are very famous or have contributed tremendously in promoting and preserving Dharma. Therefore, they must have some attainment to know whether a practice is good or bad.

Some people claim if we do Dorje Shugden practice, we will go down to the three lower realms because Dorje Shugden is a spirit, we should not take refuge in him. But if you look at this list, many lamas who practiced Dorje Shugden in their previous lives has taken rebirth in a human form again to continue to spread Dharma. So to say Dorje Shugden practice will bring the practitioners to three lower realms is not true at all. Some people also say if we do Dorje Shugden practice, we will die vomiting blood but did any of the lamas in the list who had passed away die vomiting blood? No, this is not heard of, again it is not true.

The Gelugpas started Dorje Shugden practice since 300 over years ago, how come back then no one said about the negative consequences of doing this practice? Or Dorje Shugden was a good spirit until 20 years ago, he decided to harm people? Assuming he is really a spirit, why can’t all the high lamas in Gelug monasteries do a ritual together to subdue Dorje Shugden? With all the power combined, Dorje Shugden definitely will be subdued, it cannot be a spirit is more powerful than the Buddhas.

We are in a world full of information and it is easy to find information, we should not just listen to what other people say, we have to investigate and conclude with logical findings.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

    Dear Kecharians and friends,

Last night, I gave a teaching to a group of people who were in Kechara Forest Retreat. I shared with them the correct way to pray for our loved ones and why we shouldn’t “demand” Dorje Shugden with fulfilling our wishes but let Dorje Shugden decide what is the best outcome. He has infinite Manjushri wisdom beyond our own and we should trust this wisdom. Sometimes what we pray for is not what should be fulfilled. Sometimes what we don’t want turns out to be the better result in the future.

I also shared with them about a beautiful monk, Tsawa Pulthok Rinpoche, who was jailed and badly tortured by the soldiers for 19 years, starting back in 1959 in Lhasa, and yet he has no anger towards his torturers. He was released and had resettled in Nepal where I met him. For the remainder of his life, he spent his time in meditation, retreats and pujas for the public until he passed. He was glowing, happy and very proud of the fact he was a student of His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, which he told me when we met. He did full meditations on Vajra Yogini and short puja to Dorje Shugden daily in his small room in Kathmandu, Nepal where I had to honor to join in his prayers. He told me he was very happy to have his room to do his meditations, pujas and prayers openly. Whatever happened to him, he accepted as part of his karma and he spent much time in prison meditating and quietly teaching dharma to his other cellmates. He was very much respected in prison in Lhasa because he never showed anger, always meditated and consoled others, giving them great strength. He endured much hardship, torture and beatings but he never lost his monk vows. His full understanding of karma helped him not feel any anger or bitterness towards the soldiers. He told me that daily, he would meditate that the karma of others in prison would come to him. That all the torture and abuse he received was so others in prison did not have to suffer this. He said suffering for others was what kept him going and made him be able to endure the pain.

We are not bound by our experiences. We are bound by our choice. I also reminded those were present about the good person inside each and every one of us, and how we should not “bury” this good person with our excuses because the more excuses we give, the deeper this good person is buried and soon the layers of excuses will make it very difficult for us to find this good person. We are all beautiful good people and we should not let it get lost by lying, laziness, lack of integrity and procrastination. We all have a choice. If we have to make excuses, we should choose to make excuses to be a winner. When we win, we make ourselves happy and those around us happy.

The teaching session went well and it was spontaneous, and I requested the people who live and work in and around Kechara Forest Retreat for the talk. We had some good laughs to during the talk.

    Thank you,
    Tsem Rinpoche

‘If we trust in karma which exists, then there is no reason for anger’.

“If the Dalai Lama, if His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by Dorje Shugden, then we might as well not practice Buddhism anymore. If His Holiness the Dalai Lama can have his life shortened by a so-called evil spirit, any evil spirit, then can he be Avalokiteshvara? So on one hand you say, we say, I say, everybody says, he is Avalokiteshvara; on the other hand you’re saying that he can be harmed by an evil spirit… Which one is it? Can he be harmed by an evil spirit or is he Avalokiteshvara? Do you think Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Tara all take refuge in something else to protect themselves from Dorje Shugden? How illogical is that? How illogical of people to say His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by an evil spirit, any evil spirit or “Dorje Shugden” evil spirit. How is that possible?” – Tsem Tulku Rinpoche

Some people have downplayed the severity of the Dorje Shugden ban by claiming that the Dorje Shugden practice, nothing could be further than the truth.
The 200 over lamas and Rinpoches, are very clear evidence that Dorje Shugden was widely practiced within Tibetan Communities.

Listening to the chanting of sacred words, melodies, mantras, sutras and prayers has a very powerful healing effect on our outer and inner environments. It clears the chakras, spiritual toxins, the paths where our ‘chi’ travels within our bodies for health as well as for clearing the mind. It is soothing and relaxing but at the same time invigorates us with positive energy. The sacred sounds invite positive beings to inhabit our environment, expels negative beings and brings the sound of growth to the land, animals, water and plants. Sacred chants bless all living beings on our land as well as inanimate objects. Do download and play while in traffic to relax, when you are about to sleep, during meditation, during stress or just anytime. Great to play for animals and children. Share with friends the blessing of a full Dorje Shugden puja performed at Kechara Forest Retreat by our puja department for the benefit of others. Tsem Rinpoche

How can a nun curse someone they do not even know and wish the person to die quickly and be born in hell? What kind of nun is this? Shocking! What more she’s cursing a Buddhist teacher and a monk?! Is this the face of Bhutanese Buddhist?

This is so shameful for her as a nun, her teacher, her monastery, her country and her King. A sangha should not behave in such a manner. A Sangha should carry enlightened Buddha’s teachings of compassion and wisdom to benefit all sentient beings.

A Sangha is not supposed to promote hatred and certainly should not be cursing or wishing another person to die. That wish itself is already breaking one of the vows.
A Sangha is one of the 3 Jewels, an object of refuge. They should not behave like an uncivilized person with so much hate. This is how bad the Tibetan Leadership has spread their lies and hate about Dorje Shugden and Shugden Buddhist practitioners.

Wow….great work by the writer’s team for compiling all information of the hundred great lamas and many more who has practised Dorje Shugden. Due to political pressure from the Tibetan leadership some of them are forced to give up but many still practiced as for centuries. How could they be wrong then as they are very highly attained masters and they have claimed that Dorje Shugden is beneficial and does not harm them .
Thanks again with folded hands Rinpoche and teams for all the work and effort all of you have done.

    • CindyH on Jun 12, 2018 at 6:09 pm

Agree that Dorje Shugden ban by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is detrimental to the peace and unity of Tibetans.

It is also equally absurd that the Central Tibetan Administration has been able to get away from being accountable for their failures to deliver any of the promises to Tibetans by blaming a deity for so long and to date, they are still getting away with it.

      In short;
      • From a secular view, no self-respecting democratic governing body would use a Buddhist enlightened deity as a scapegoat to cover-up their screw-ups and enforce an illogical religious ban that in contravention of their own constitution and also without giving any substantial or satisfactory justifications.

      • From a spiritual perspective, leaving aside the illogical claims of Dorje Shugden being an evil spirit etc where each such unjustifiable allegations by the CTA can be logically debunked by Dorje Shugden practitioners, why only blame Dorje Shugden for the loss of Tibet? After all, if one is to subscribe this line of thinking then one is in effect saying that;
      (i) Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who is a none other than Chenrezig is inferior to an evil spirit. And if you say Dalai Lama is not inferior, then why didn’t Chenrezig protect Tibet?
(ii) The primary state protector of Tibet Nechung or Dorje Drakden did not protect Tibet from destruction as he sworn to Guru Rinpoche to do. Why not blame Nechung too? Why pick on Dorje Shugden?

Another problematic issue by subscribing to CTA’s unsubstantiated allegations against Dorje Shugden is that there are also so many living Buddhas, high lamas, Rinpoches, tulkus and other Dharma Protectors n the pantheon of Tibetan Buddhism. Why didn’t they stop the Chinese invasion? Or are you going to say they are all unable to due to a supposedly evil spirit Dorje Shugden? Again, why (illogically) only blame Shugden?

The irony of it all is that Dorje Shugden was the one who warned the Tibetans about the impending invasion from 1957 onwards and when push comes to shove, Dorje Shugden was the one who pulled through and helped the Dalai Lama escape https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/the-truth-about-who-saved-the-14th-dalai-lama.html

Thank you very much for sharing this list. This reaffirms my faith that Dorje Shugden is a highly beneficial practice that is not limited to only the Gelug tradition but is suitable for anyone.

Within the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon, it is a known fact that many high Lamas have the ability to subdue spirits. So IF Dorje Shugden is indeed a demonic spirit as claimed by some, any of these lamas list just in this post alone would have been able to subdue this evil spirit. The fact that no Lama, even those who do not practise Dorje Shugden, have not come forward to subdue it would mean that Dorje Shugden is not an evil spirit as claimed. It is impossible that if Dorje Shugden is an evil demon, no compassionate Lama would even attempt to subdue it to prevent it from harming people.

  29. Lin Mun on Jun 11, 2018 at 8:42 pm

The allegation that CTA make on Dorje Shugden and saying the practise is evil and will harm HH Dalai Lama doesn’t make sense at all. Dorje Shugden is an enlightened dharma protector who have been propitiated by many high lamas for more than 400 years. How can all these high lamas do not know if Dorje Shugden is an evil. The allegation created by CTA is just to create confusion and propagated for their own agenda. It is disheartening as the ban has segregated the Tibetans and created many unnecessary suffering towards Dorje Shugden practitioners. We hope HH Dalai Lama will resolve this matter to avoid further suffering and discrimination against the practitioners.

Recently Beng Kooi and Martin on behalf of myself and Kechara was lucky to have audience with His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He lives in around Paris, France. His Holiness is 91 years old and very healthy and alert. He was the 101st throne holder for Tsongkapa and was the head of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism and was very successful during his tenure. He is a strong practitioner of both Sutra and Tantra of Je Tsongkapa’s tradition and a master of all Buddhist knowledge. He holds steadfast to his protector Dorje Shugden very strongly. So we can see even the highest throneholders who are masters of Sutra and Tantra also practices Dorje Shugden knowing the benefits.

Beng Kooi and Martin brought photo albums of Kechara Forest Retreat/Kechara and updates on Kechara and our works. His Holiness was very pleased to listen and offered some gifts back.

The Dorje Shugden ban is now 20years old. During this period, Dorje Shugden has been maligned and demonized by a series of smear campaigns designed to destroy the practice and wipe it from the registry of Tibetan Buddhism. But sooner or later whatever is baseless will begin to collapse and increasingly we see signs of that. This comment by ‘Suzy in Hawaii’ is yet another indication that despite all efforts, the anti-Shugden offensive has failed. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl-4lIwxph4&t=11s

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

The evidence in this instance is overwhelming – the vast majority of Gelug lamas practised Dorje Shugden, in comparison to the small handful who did not or who gave up the practice. So for people to claim that Dorje Shugden is a minor deity is erroneous and for anyone to CONTINUE insisting that he is a minor practice after they have been presented with such overwhelming evidence, clearly has a hidden agenda. Why else would anyone continue to push an illogical stance, when it has been shown time and time again (and with so much evidence) that their views are based on falsehoods?

The question that has to be asked is, why did so many lamas give up the practice? Is it because after hundreds of years of practice, so many people SPONTANEOUSLY AND SIMULTANEOUSLY decided that the practice is negative? Or is it more likely that one very influential person made the decision for everybody, without so much as consulting them?

You don’t even need to be Buddhist or well-versed in Buddhist studies to know which situation / explanation is more probable!

99% of the Gelug tradition practiced Dorje Shugden before the ban that was laid down by the Dalai Lama. All it is no surprise that all the lamas listed are those who kept to Dorje Shugden practice and brought it to many sentient beings.

May many sentient beings once again be able to practice Dorje Shudgen without fear or worry.

What makes me really sad is that people JUDGE the Dorje Shugden Lamas without even actually knowing them on a personal level. The anti DS people have probably no interaction with the DS Lamas , never attended their teachings, never met the Lamas in person, never studied on their works and achievements, never talked or been in contact in any way or form. YET THEY CRITICISE, THEY USE ABUSIVE LANGUAGE, THEY SPAM THEIR TEACHINGS, THEY RALLY OTHERS TO DO THE SAME ETC ETC. Is this your innate attitude ? Is that what you always do to others too, just to gain some attention or just to vent your personal frustration on others ? Or are you paid to do this ? It is a really strange behaviour !!!!
One has no right to judge, no right to criticise or discriminate another over their spiritual beliefs !! Or if you have an interest whatsoever, then study your facts, research on the DS Lama”s works, talk to their students, participate in their activities, attend teachings by DS Lamas, then maybe you have a basis to discuss/debate the subject matter.
With all due respect , even if the Dalai Lama bans this practice, there ought to be a
    1) a valid reason
    2) an avenue/ respected platform for negotiation and discussion
    3) freedom to practice without fear
    4) fair treatment

Anti -DS people , please stop barking up the wrong tree !! Practice equanimity and compassion for the benefit of all beings ! OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA !!

Todd, it is very disrespectful for you to come here to criticize, belittle and says unfounded things about His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. Although this is a public domain but still it belongs to Tsem Rinpoche. You are coming here to his house and start say nasty things, make snide remarks, belittling him etc..
How about looking at a different scenario that I go to your house and says all those nasty things about you, complain, criticize, finger pointing and starts running you down, you wouldn’t like it, would you? Similarly since you are here please accord some courtesy to the host of this domain.
The truth of the matter is that makes you think you are more qualified to comment against those erudite present and past masters of Tibetan Buddhism? It is for us to believe and for you to find out but looking at your comments needless to mention here your knowledge is pretty shallow as compared to these masters.
I would urge you if you are keen to learn about the truth is to spend more years doing intensive research in Tibet or somewhere else that could provide you with respectable and in depth knowledge otherwise you are not making any sense in your remarks here.
Those people who responded to your inquisitiveness here on who, where and how they practice Dorje Shudgen is pretty polite and very accommodating. In other domains you would have been blocked as your intention is not noble.

      Dear Sonny Tan,

Thank you for your posting above. As a student of Tsem Rinpoche, it is very heartwarming when we see comments like yours above. Todd and many others has been coming into our lama’s blog & also other form of social media bombarding the pages with a lot of irrelevant comment and some will just screamed vulgarity. We are all here to share and learn. Not to be rude and be disrespectful.

      Thank you once again

If i get to see the Dalai Lama personally, the first thing i would ask is: How could you prove that Dorje Shugden was wrong? Dorje Shugden is the one who saved your skin when he gave you precise plans to escape from Tibet, had it not been for Dorje Shugden you [Dalai Lama] wouldn’t be here and alive today in this world. It was Nechung (An unenlightened spirit who was subdued by Guru Rinpoche and bound to oaths to protect the Dharma) who gave the 13th Dalai Lama the wrong medication which killed him and it definitely wasn’t Nechung who told the Dalai Lama to leave Tibet immediately.
The Dalai Lama said that people who practice Dorje Shugden are spirit worshipers, but the real person who is worshiping spirits are the CTA and the Dalai Lama, they are the ones who always consult Nechung( and several other unenlightened spirits) for advice.

Dorje Shugden has proven himself as an enlightened Dharma protector and if he is wrong that means everyone including the Dalai Lama is wrong(the Dalai Lamas teachers were great masters who worshiped Dorje Shugden).

Since people claim that Dorje Shugden is was a evil spirit that was killed in a fire puja, since they proclaim that he was killed, who is the one going in to the oracles in the great monasteries? Which evil spirit can enter a oracle inside a holy monastery filled with many high lamas? It is said that a highly skilled Lama can tell between a evil spirit and a protector and what’s more the oracles body and mind is kept pure by vows and daily sadhanas to ensure that nothing unclean can enter his body.

Linda and Tenzin Tsephel, Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro Rinpoche of Dzongsar(“…the most outstanding Tibetan master of the twentieth century”) was a Root Guru of HH the Sakya Trizin. If you criticize these two great masters, that is one thing.

But in your video, you and your Guru DISHONESTLY include the name of HH the Sakya Trizin among the names of Shugden practitioners, and you EXTREMELY DISHONESTLY imply that HH the 13th and HH the 14th Dalai Lamas are the ONLY high Lamas who oppose the practice, when I have clearly proven, with the video link, that HH the Sakya Trizin (along with ALL high Nyingma Rinpoches) opposes the practice.

Chokyi Lodro Rinpoche DID hold Gelugpa teachings and taught Gelugpa disciples, the foremost of whom was Kyili Kyabgon Rinpoche.

    http://www.rangjung.com/authors/Dzongsar_Khyentse_Chokyi_Lodro.htm
    http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Jamyang_Khyentse_Ch%C3%B6kyi_Lodr%C3%B6#Birth_and_Early_Life

Linda, I started practicing Buddhism in 1982. This issue became a personal concern for me after a disruptive mob of Shugden worshipers came uninvited to where I live, for the purpose of disturbing the visit of HH the Dalai Lama. They even sent someone into the Alabama Theater to create more disturbances.

The number of Rinpoches who either oppose Shugden worship, or who at least avoid the practice, has vastly outnumbered the Shugden worshipers throughout history, especially if you are honest enough to mention all the Nyingma, Kagyu, and Sakya Masters who avoid the practice.

    • Linda on Mar 31, 2016 at 11:51 pm

      Todd,

Tsem Rinpoche is not my guru, nor have I ever met him and I do not even live in the country his centre is at. I admire Tsem Tulku Rinpoche because when I visited Gaden Monastery in South India with a group back in 1994, I met a few high lamas, abbots and ex-abbots who had glowing things to say about Tsem Rinpoche. They mentioned among many things his guru devotion is very strong and his English is a plus. I have followed Tsem Rinpoche’s blog and many of my friends do also and they have benefited tremendously. These very high lamas I met all practice Shugden.

Secondly, Chokyi Lodro is great or not great is perspective. Any lama in the Tibetan tradition have detractors. It is subjective. He is not known in the Gelug world at all and he does not teach any Gelug teachings to anyone at all.

Tsem Rinpoche does not attend any protests against Dalai Lama and none of his works are vulgar, rude or demeaning towards the Dalai Lama in his blog posts. If he was, I will not agree. He has gently followed his practice as given to him by his teacher. Even back when I visited Gaden I attended a puja to Dorje Shugden in the Dorje Shugden Tenkhang attended by over 600 monks and our group was the sponsor of food, bread and tea. They conduct this puja monthly. So many high lamas, Geshes and senior monks attended and I was able to offer them a khata each. A great honor. Tsem Rinpoche has not done anything wrong. He does not agree with Dalai Lama’s ban on Shugden and neither do I. The ban is wrong. For this you hound him? I don’t care what and who you say which lama likes or don’t like Shugden. You don’t live in a monastery, you are not connected to every dharma centre, lineage or master. Whatever you say is your own speculation. Nothing is believed. No one believes you.

There is no reason for you to hound Tsem Rinpoche or disturb him. You have no dharma blog site, you don’t have a centre, students or anything. You just sit at home and type on a computer? Why should you be believed? You do nothing. If you don’t like what Tsem Rinpoche says, who invited you to his blog here? Who invited you to his FB/twitter page? Nobody. So you don’t like, then don’t bother to visit. What do you win to argue and argue and debate. You don’t need to hound Tsem Rinpoche and his thousands of blog followers. Remember this blog has peaked over 7 million views since it’s inception. What Tsem Rinpoche is sharing is reaching thousands and there is nothing you or anyone can do. Tsem Rinpoche has done nothing to you. Has not hurt your family, friends nor even has any association with you. You do not need to tell him what to do or act or practice. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Tsem Rinpoche has done nothing to you so get your own life and go spend your time somewhere else. Tsem Rinpoche is honest or not is just your opinion. You don’t find him honest, then go somewhere else. Find another fixation to hassle. Get a hobby, go to the gym, go for walks, go feed the homeless, study something or take a course, fight global warming, save some animal species, cook in shelters, join salvation army, or whatever. There is so much a person can do to change or help the world and your community. So go do it and stop harassing Tsem Rinpoche. You look ridiculous and you look obsessed.

Linda, I have evidence that Tsem Tulku encouraged the disturbances against HH the Dalai Lama.

Len Foley was the leader of the disruptive mob that came to Birmingham, Alabama, where I live, in 2014:

        TsemTulkuLenFoley1

        • Linda on Apr 1, 2016 at 2:05 am

          Todd,

This is your evidence? You gotta be kidding?? How flimsy is that. Geshe Kelsang’s group are against the illegal ban against their faith. They protested and not Tsem Rinpoche and students. Tsem Rinpoche does not agree with the ban. So they have a common bond. So what? Their bond was brought about due to a ban against their faith. The end. Tsem Rinpoche ‘liked’ their efforts and left a comment, but did not attend the protests neither did his students and you have this whole conspiracy theory against Tsem Rinpoche? Drop it already man.

Hundreds of thousands of people protest against the establishment, bosses, businesses, leaders, Vatican, pope, whatever daily around the world. So what? Dalai Lama is alive and well and no harm came to him due to the protests. If he is going to make policies that hurt people or be on the world stage then he has to be ready for protests and people speaking up. That is the price of fame.

          But the point is:

Tsem Rinpoche did NOTHING to you. Nothing to your family. Nothing to your friends. Nothing to you at all. What Tsem Rinpoche wants to speak up about is his prerogative. It’s his life and his freedom. You Todd Chambers have nothing to do with this at all. You don’t have to be involved in Tsem Rinpoche’s life, times, views, works and activities. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU. He does not need your approval. You don’t need his approval. You go and live your life and let him live his. You like Dharma, go practice, and more power to you sir! But Tsem Rinpoche did NOTHING TO YOU. You don’t have to police anyone. Go live your life free of conspiracy, anger and pain and all that. The end.

          relax

Linda, it is true that I cannot stop Tsem Tulku from spreading falsehoods on YouTube, Twitter, or FaceBook, but I have the freedom to mention that fact, and call attention to it.

          • Linda on Apr 1, 2016 at 4:23 am

            Todd,

You have the freedom to call attention to what you like but remember:

            1. You have no claims against Tsem Rinpoche to be believed. You have done nothing to be believed but keep repeating the same old thing, stalking and spamming. Act your age.

            2. Tsem Rinpoche has done you no harm. So you are seen as stalking and spamming and perhaps mentally unwell. You are fixated on him like some people out there are fixated on a celebrity or some person they have never met. You should look deeper into yourself and see the hurt and pain you have from childhood or your earlier years that make you manifest this hurt that needs healing in stalking, blaming and attacking others you have never met.

            3. The more you do this, the more it consumes you and destroys you. You are so fixated and obsessed. You should really go and get help. Go get professional help.

            4. The untruths you perceive Tsem Rinpoche is spreading is your truth and you are seen as deluded. Everyone has their views. You cannot stop him as you said and you want to bring attention to it? What a waste of time. Throwing a raw egg at a mountain and hoping the mountain will crumble.

            5. You have no right to interfere in the life, works and beliefs of Tsem Rinpoche. Tsem Rinpoche believes in Shugden and that is his right and constitutionally protected right-RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. You have no right to keep telling Tsem Rinpoche his belief in Shugden is wrong. This is his religion and spiritual choice. Better you just respect other people’s religion and keep quiet. You make yourself look really fanatical.

You sound like a bible thumping fanatic from the deep South condemning gays, blacks and anyone you don’t like. Wrong!

Give it a rest. Do yourself a favor and leave people to their beliefs, religions and way of life. It is none of your business what others choose. NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Really, go get some counseling and help. You need it. You must suffer plenty and daily. Poor man.

        • Joy on Apr 4, 2016 at 4:24 am

How can the above be considered evidence when it is just someone rejoicing for another person’s hard work for a good cause to remove an ILLEGAL ban on people’s religion, Dorje Shugden. Believe it or not, Dorje Shugden people are humans with rights too, I’m a human and I have the right to practice whatever I choose to living in a democratic country. I do not see any evidence in thisyour claims because it is all just based on ASSUMPTIONS and nothing more.

Also why do you Mr. Todd like to stalk and harass my Lama whom you have never met or know and keep trying to put Him and us all down with your beliefs and your concepts? Why is it that you can accept other people of different faith but choose to harass us Shugden practitioners? Your an eye for an eye attitude does says a lot about your practice and puts His Holiness to shame, if you claim He is your Guru. Because…didn’t His Holiness the Dalai Lama teach about compassion, patience, religious tolerance, forgiveness too? How come those practices are being ignored but harassing, insinuating, condemning, discriminating and accusing others for practising their faith, in this case it is Dorje Shugden is okay? Did H.H. asked you to do this?

With this kind of attitude, it makes me question if His Holiness is inciting hatred in His teachings and being hypocritical because whatever the students and followers do, act and behave is a direct representation of their leader, head, teacher. So the more Mr. Todd comes here to harass us with his judgemental, critical opinion and views on what’s right and wrong and basically not giving us peace, the more he proves to the world that His Holiness Dalai Lama people are NOT NICE people. But we forgive you…

Get off your high horse because you are not better than anyone else. I told you already-GO GET MEDICAL HELP. Your too old for this. Mature up and get help.

You do stalk Tsem Rinpoche as @lhazang on twitter.

Tsem Rinpoche does not tag you but you tagged him, stalked him and directed demeaning tweets to him till you were blocked. When people ask you not to tag them, harass them, stalk them and send them degrading messages and you still do so. Why? Why are you so creepy in that way? What have you become? Have you always been this way? What kind of Buddhist are you? Does the Dalai Lama teach you to harass, stalk and hammer people on the internet? Are you representing Dalai Lama or yourself? Everything you write, say and post is recorded-JUST REMEMBER THAT.

Isn’t this you in the picture I attached? The stalker. I think this blog site should block your comments. They are even nice enough to not moderate and let the comments through. YOU SHOULD BE BLOCKED because you really need help. Go get help.

      To Your Eminence Tsem Rinpoche,

It was so beautiful to see this post and your blog is magnificent. It reaches thousands of people and I must thank you for all the work and effort you put into your blog. You also have a centre and many students. You really spend all of your time for others via the dharma. You are a dharma hero, great monk and teacher.

I’ve shown your site to a friend in Taiwan and he is a student of His Holiness the late Great all Omniscient 10th Panchen Rinpoche. My friend is much older now but in the past has visited Panchen Rinpoche’s Tashilunpo Monastery many times for teachings. He has visited the chapel of Dorje Shugden which is huge in Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery. My friend is fluent in Tibetan reading and spoken and has joined in their Dorje Shugden pujas also on many occasions. He said many of his obstacles were removed due to the Dorje Shugden puja and even created the causes for him to save his mother’s life. Indeed Panchen Rinpoche was a great man, master and so courageous as he stood for Tibetan culture, religion and nationality against the Chinese cultural revolution on many occasions and was jailed, tortured and beaten for it also. Yet Panchen Rinpoche’s spiritual commitments never waned. He was a great practitioner of Kalacakra and Dorje Shugden my friend said. Panchen Rinpoche had pujas done for Dorje Shugden in short form daily and in longer form a few times a month in his monastery. Even the great 9th Panchen Lama practiced Dorje Shugden also.

My friend in Taiwan is in awe of your blogsite and asked me to leave a message here and he is not confident in written English. He thanks you for your various posts on Panchen Rinpoche as it brought tears to his eyes.

Thank you for all you do. Keep it up and it does not have one iota of meaning for whatever the detractors who are against you have to say or comment. All great men have detractors. You are in my prayers and I am a avid follower of your blog. Thank you for all you do.

HH Rizong Rinpoche does NOT do this practice. Neither does H.E. Gelek Rinpoche. Also, HH the Sakya Trizin does NOT do this practice. Actually, MOST Lamas and Rinpoches do NOT and HAVE NOT done this practice. Tsem Tulku is being extremely dishonest by only putting two names on the list of non-practitioners

    • Pastor Niral Patel on Mar 31, 2016 at 3:16 am

      Dear Todd Rush Chambers,

His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche is from the monastery, he is connected to many Rinpoches and many monks, many Geshes and many masters and teachers. He has many Gurus and friends in various monasteries. None of the information on this page is wrong or inaccurate. If you read each and every one of the memes correctly, it states if the lamas are associated with, or are from monasteries that practice, formally practiced or if they are currently practicing Dorje Shugden. This is what this page is about.

Rizong Rinpoche actually comes from a monastery in the area of Ladakh. Dorje Shugden is actually prevalent among the lay practitioners there. One of His Eminence’s Gurus lived in Ladakh, and this is actually very well-known and recounted by his Guru.

Gelek Rinpoche actually practiced Dorje Shugden his whole life, until recently. His root Gurus were Trijang Rinpoche and Zong Rinpoche. This was actually mentioned by Gelek Rinpoche personally to Tsem Rinpoche. It clearly states on the memes that he practiced for most of his life, which he did.

Also, the Sakya lineage has four previous Sakya Trizins (30th, 31st, 33rd & 39th) who are the current Sakya Trizins forefathers, who practiced, actively promoted and instituted prayers in their monasteries to Dorje Shugden (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/the-sakya-lineage-dorje-shugden.html). The Sakya lineage therefore, includes the propitiation of Dorje Shugden and in fact Dorje Shugden was practiced within the Sakya Lineage before he was practiced in the Gelug Lineage.

So there is nothing wrong or dishonest about any of this and when you say that most lamas do not or have not practiced Dorje Shugden, this is not correct. Thank you for coming here to share your opinion. Please do understand this was not posted to offend anyone, but we are just telling the truth. I wish you the best in life and our common goal of attaining enlightenment for the benefit of all.

      Regards,
      Pastor Niral Patel.

Pastor Niral-ji, HH the CURRENT Sakya Trizin simply does NOT do this practice, and he has, in fact, spoken out AGAINST the practice.

NO Nyingma or Kagyu Rinpoches do this practice. Many of them are against the practice (Chatral Rinpoche, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, HH the Mindrolling Trichen), so to imply that only the 13th and 14th Dalai Lamas have a “problem” with the practice is EXTREMELY dishonest.

When all the monks left Tibet in 1959, all the four lineage teachers and monks resided in Buxa refugee camp together. All the monks and high lamas were in close contact daily. It was seen clearly that Sakya Trizin included Dorje Shugden Tanag (Shugden on a black horse, as per the Sakya tradition) within the pantheon of deities he made offerings to in those early days. The senior monks of Gaden, Sera and Drepung all witnessed this clearly as they were in close proximity. There are hundreds of senior monks in their 70’s and 80’s who can attest to this clearly and these monks do not lie. Remember, Dorje Shugden’s practice was in the Sakya tradition way before the Gelugs and it still is in Tibet.

The main Sakya monastery in Tibet still have paintings and images of Dorje Shugden in Tibet. We know this because our friends and relatives have visited. We have close Sakya monk friends from Tibet and they still practice Dorje Shugden, and confirmed that Dorje Shugden Tanag is practiced there now. Not everyone in Sakya has abandoned Shugden as not everyone is in agreement with abandoning this practice. The Phuntsok Phodrang Sakya Dagchen in Washington has never spoken against Dorje Shugden and also continues to practise Dorje Shugden, according to old monks.

The current Sakya Trizin has had no choice but to speak about Dorje Shugden due to pressure from Dharamsala. But it does not matter whether he speaks about it or not, because not everyone in Sakya will follow what he says (in the same way not everyone in Gelug will follow what the Dalai Lama says).

Some lamas may have spoken out against Dorje Shugden, but MANY MORE lamas have NOT spoken out and continue to practice, for example His Holiness the 9th Panchen Rinpoche who relied on Dorje Shugden until the end of his life.

There have been Nyingmas and Kagyus who also practice Shugden, as laypeople in Tibet have always crossed over into each other’s practices. Our lama and friends have many relatives in Tibet and they attest to this.

You had by the way also mentioned Chatral Rinpoche, Namkhai Norbu and Mindrolling Trichen as not practicing. By the way they have no authority or business to comment on the Dorje Shugden practice within the Gelug tradition. It’s none of their business and in fact, for them to comment on it, it is sectarian of them to do so.

          Thank you,
          Pastor Jean Ai

No, there have not been any Nyingma practitioners.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdkY_IbXt9k

Also, not only HH the current Sakya Trizin, but also one of his root Gurus, the Great Khyentse Chokyi Lodro Rinpoche, opposed this practice.

If we are considering all four traditions (Nyingma, Sakya, Gelug, and Kagyu), then MOST Lamas have NOT done this practice.

In this video, Tsem Tulku dishonestly only lists HH the 13th Dalai Lama and HH the 14th Dalai Lama has being opposed to the practice:

            Todd,

Interesting to see you here. Weren’t you the one that kept spamming Tsem Rinpoche on twitter till you were blocked? Looks like your doing it here again.

What do you get out of all this? Who appointed you and made you protector of pure and impure Buddhism or your version of it? You have no authority. You have no studies, no background, no nothing. You are not even a monk. So where do you get off telling anyone anything about their practice, lineage and authenticity.

BTW, Chokyi Lodro has no business in Gelug affairs. He never gave Tsongkapa initiations, practice, oral transmissions. He never gave any teachings on the 18 volumes of written works by Tsongkapa or disciples. He never taught anything from Gelug texts. He knows nothing about Gelug practices and he has no right to criticize if he did about Gelug, Dorje Shugden or Gelug lineage. None of his students teach anything from the Gelug lineage either. Don’t bring a lawmaker from Canada to insist on formulation of laws in USA. No jurisdiction.

            @Todd,

As for Sakya Trizin, he’s pretty sectarian too. He gives no teachings or initiations from the Gelug school of Buddhism. Why does he have to be a Sakya throne holder? Why can’t he be a throne holder of all Buddhism if that is necessary at all and why only Sakya. In fact throne holders of a particular lineage only uphold their lineage and keep reinforcing the superiority of their lineage by saying they are the throne holders of a lineage. They always insist the superiority of their lineages and indirectly are saying other lineages are not as good by default. Think about it.

When you see a Theravadin senior monks, all Theravadin Buddhist laity in all Theravadin countries (eg Burma, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, etc) and sangha respect him. He is not a throne holder of a particular Theravadin sect but a master of Buddhism. A senior learned monk of Buddhism full stop. No conflicts.

There are a lot of inherent faults in Tibetan Buddhism and their ecclesiastical system and hierarchy. This by default promotes the collection of power, wealth, accumulation of wealth, position, name, properties. Buddha taught no attachment and simplicity. It’s far, far, far from the Buddha’s teachings. It’s a lot of men, in big hats, big uniforms sitting on big thrones seemingly competing. Just be simple monks.

In fact for hundreds of years there are two Sakya ‘Palaces’ till now. Dolma Podrang and Phuntsok Podrang. The current Sakya Trizin is Dolma Podrang. The previous one to him was from Puntsok Podrang. The switch taking thrones from one generation to another. By right, after the current one passes away, then the son of the Phuntsok Podrang ascends the throne and the perks, fame, name, money, wealth, travel, offerings and you name it are accorded to him as the new Sakya Trizin. Sounds like European royalty. But because of in house disagreements that has been happening for hundreds of years between the two Podrangs, Chokyi Lodro told them to share the power and not one Sakya Trizin should hold onto power for a lifetime. The two throne holders of Phuntsok Podrang (Sakya Jigdal in Washington state) and the Sakya Trizin (incumbent) of Dolma Podrang has come to a stunning agreement that starting from 2017, all Sakya Trizins (throneholders) will only serve a THREE YEAR TERM. What the hec can they accomplish in three years? So all the sons of Dolma Podrang (current incumbent Sakya Trizin has two sons) and the Sakya Jigdal Phuntsok Podrang (has 5 sons) will sit on the throne and receive all the perks. It’s about power, amassing fortune.

They have more issues that are quietly fought on in the private arena that you will ever know of. Instead of practicing renunciation, asceticism and as the Buddha taught, they are more interested on who sits on the throne. Sounds like the Vatican. So Sakya Trizin the current one has no right to criticize anything on Gelug affairs or Dorje Shugden. He should just practice dharma and stop making issues who sits on the Sakya throne and whether Dorje Shugden is enlightened or not. Why is there a need for a Sakya throne or throne holder anyway? Why don’t they install a throne holder by meritocracy? Whoever within Sakya is the most learned and well-practiced should ascend the throne. Why only these two families hold onto name, power and wealth. Tibetan serfdom is over.

Todd, it’s good you bring this all up and I can share this type of information for more people to read and think for themselves. This will be here for many more years to come. You want to degrade Shugden? Well there is a lot of intrigue and dirt in the other lineages, as well as power games and all that too. Sakya has plenty of intrigues. So Sakya Trizin will do well to keep quiet. Chokyi Lodro with his wife and he wearing monk robes would do well to keep quiet about Shugden too. Buddha left the palace, surrendered his wife and child. Chokyi Lodro has a wife, wears monk robes, kids and et al. So I am not against any of them. I am sure there were some saintly and holy Sakya Trizins in the past, but do not get involved or comment on Gelug affairs.

Chokyi Lodro may been a scholar or master but he didn’t teach anything Gelug. Not totally Rime is he? Chokyi Lodro having a wife and wearing robes on a throne is frowned upon by the whole Gelug, Theravadin Buddhist world of millions. That is controversial to the many monks of the Southeast Buddhist tradition and Gelugs. How about if every person wearing monk robes with shaven heads had wives? In front, they act as monks and wear robes and behind they have wives and children? How would that look? You can argue Chokyi Lodro is attained and not attached to wife and children, then why have one in the first place and what example is he setting for unattained monks? Certainly this is much more controversial than Shugden. 99% of senior Gelug lamas and monks don’t even know who Chokyi Lodro is nor care. Who needs to listen to him and his opiinions on Shugden if it’s so negative. Who is he? He has no jurisdiction on Shugden or Gelug or Panchen Rinpoche, Trijang Rinpoche and so on who taught on Shugden. The great 9th Panchen Lama of Tashilunpo propitiated Shugden his whole life. Has huge chapels in his monastery for Dorje Shugden. The great 9th Panchen even composed extended and medium prayers to Dorje Shugden. Panchen Lama manifested as a layman and wore the chuba of a layman and was a great teacher, scholar and light in the darkness for the six million Tibetans. Sorry for you. I have nothing against Chokyi Lodro and I am sure he is kind, but for the sake of debate, you brought it up. His Holiness the Great Panchen Lama does not need Chokyi Lodro nor Sakya Trizins approval to proliferate and practice Shugden. Don’t create disharmony is better for them. It’s not their business to comment on Dorje Shugden. Gelugs do not practice Dorje Drolod or Guru Rinpoche but that is not sectarian. Nyingmas do not practice Je Tsongkapa as a yidam and his teachings, that is not sectarian. If Gelugs said something about their practices, they would be unhappy. So they should never speak about Gelug practices or speak outside their lineage. Their opinions carry no weight to any of us.

Sure. Name me a Sakya lama that still propagates Shugden then. All I can find is your hated Bonpo shamans of Nepal still uptaking your spirit even today.

        • Tenzin Tsephel on Apr 1, 2016 at 12:15 am

Whether the current Sakya Trizin practices Dorje Shugden or not, who cares. He is insignificant and his term as Sakya Trizin is over next year. Then the next one steps in for three years. Don’t you know the new Sakya ruling?

Sakya Trizin has no right to comment or negate any Shugden practice within Sakya as his forefathers (four previous Sakya throne holders) practiced, composed prayers and built chapels to Shugden. When he says they don’t practice in Sakya, he is dishonest. It’s a well known fact Sakya Trizin is very interested in making money and has a reputation about that coming from his Western organizers of his tours. So much money to be had that there was conflict and now his term is over next year and the new one steps in.

          • Dongho on Jun 11, 2018 at 1:21 pm

Excuse me? And when did you as a Gelugpa have the right to comment over my lineage, the Sakya? Is he your head? No! So why care on that? He is not your head, the Ganden Tripa is(or your guru), so you can shut up about that. And also, the Sakya Trizin is affiliated with this because you keep up this “claim” that Shugden is a Sakyapa, yet in our context, he is a minor protector that is a traitor. Yes, Shugden is not sectarian, but a traitor to both the Sakya and Drukpa lineages by supporting the Gelugpa lineage against the combined Rime group that was trying to protect the teachings from the sectarian Gelugpa. Whether he betrays the Gelugpa next, I do not know. However, a spirit that has a schism over whether to worship him or not is not to be trusted. Do you not remember what the Buddha said? Causing a schism among the sangha is one of the 5 heinous crimes that is going to cause one to be reborn in Avici Hell(aka. Vajra Hell). If you keep up with this rubbish and affiliate the other lineages to join in in this crappy controversy by claiming we worshiped this deity(as a minor protector who is not a major part of the Sakyapas) and overly exaggerate the “enlightened” claim of your deity, then what are we to do other than step in and defend out lineage? And how do we know that this claim of yours of the previous Sakya Trizins is not some piece of evidence you made up or one of the Shugden lamas made up just so that they could use this evidence as a support for them? Enough with this shit! The Sakya has had enough to do with the Gelugpa controversy! Sort it out already! Send your oracle to the Nechung then if you want to make your claim official! Enough is enough! We are finished with shit!

          • Dongho on Jun 11, 2018 at 1:35 pm

And how dare you try to slander one of the most respected Sakya masters in our lineage! Do you know how much pain Pabongkhapa has given us? First he supports us, then all of the sudden, he wants to destroy us! Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo had a right to speak out against this spirit! First we allow Shugden to be a minor protector, then he betrays us and tries to destroy us and several other lineages. How can he not criticize this traitor?!!???!? Especially if it’s now trying to destroy the sacred lineage he is of! Whether Shugden is sectarian or not, it does not matter. We can clearly see that he is simply a traitor willing to take up whatever side for this own selfish ego for power! What else do you expect from a gyalpo? Yet, you continue your worship of him even when Lord Chenrezig’s incarnation has advised against this practice for the entire lineage and now, you even hate this man and now are having angry protestors deluding themselves by hating a bodhisattva! Do you not remember what Shantideva said? Even one second of anger towards a bodhisattva will cause one to lose countless eons of merit! Do you not see how much you are deluding yourselves to this spirit just so that you can express your anger against a bodhisattva? Whatever the case is, it is clear that this spirit is not to be trusted and will simply delude his own followers to lose merits and be reborn into the lower realms through this anger. If he is so enlightened, then why is their a schism over him then? It is clear that a deity who still has a schism over him is not to be followed. But then again, what do expect from a gyalpo like Shugden? Your insult of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and the Sakya Trizin is already an indicator of how traitorous your spirit is in leading you to this far. I pray you finally be free of the grasps of this gyalpo along with many others. Hum Phat Svaha!

Rizong Rinpoche, his village in Ladakh and many of his students did practice Dorje Shugden for sure till the ban by Dalai Lama. Rizong Rinpoche has been heavily pressured by Dalai Lama’s people to stop. Till this day, Gaden Tripa Rizong Rinpoche has not said one single negative word against Dorje Shugden. Be sure of that. His many senior students attest to this.

  41. Pastor Adeline on Mar 13, 2016 at 5:54 pm

If we look into the Dorje Shugden controversy, it is not difficult to tell that the well educated and highly attained lamas and meditators who support the practise outnumbered those who oppose it. Technically speaking, there’s only one who opposes, the rest who really suppress and reinforce it are lay people without much or no knowledge of the dharma simply because the methods they use are against the dharma – violence, suppression, threat, deny of human rights and freedom of speech etc.

Whether these masters are still practitioners or not, it has been proven that the Dorje Shugden practise is adopted by many and they cannot be the minority. These practitioners have many students who practice too, and if we do a simple calculation, we can easily get thousands, this is really common sense we should look into, instead of listening to a group of politicians who are interested solely in their own welfare.

  42. Sofi on Mar 10, 2016 at 6:10 pm

Thank you for sharing of so many highly attained Lamas that practises or had practised Lord Dorje Shugden as a Protector. Many had propitiated this powerful practise to their many students or followers for as long as 400 years ago. To keep Lord Dorje Shugden practise alive for 400 years must mean that it had been beneficial to our dharmic path and why only now 19 years ago did His Holiness the Dalai Lama ban his practise and cites unsubstantiated reasons for this unreasonable ban.
All these illustrious Lamas can’t be wrong and only His Holiness be right….it just does not make sense!!!
I agree with Rinpoche’s clear and logical explaination in this article and his videos.

    Dear Rinpoche, Admin and Team,

Thank you for this series that not only educates the readers more about Dorje Shugden, his practice, and forms, but also on these lamas, most of which I have never met before, but share common ground in our practice, affinity, and ties with Dorje Shugden.

Many people say that the practise of Dorje Shugden is bad, but cannot really substantiate why it is bad, besides saying that His Holiness Dalai Lama says its bad and we should not practice it. But what about all the other teaches, lamas, monks, geshes out there, who are teachers of the highest calibre as His Holiness is, who have relied and practise Dorje Shugden all their life, and some even after entering clear light, has had their incarnation enthroned in this life? How is the practice of Dorje Shugden bad, when the Lama’s incarnation is back, unmistaken, and some even recognised by His Holiness himself? Baffles me!

As for me, my teacher, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, has given me this practice, and each time, Dorje Shugden has helped me to move along my spiritual path, and even in trance, advised and taught us based on the doctrine of Buddha Shakyamuni, as you can see here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grMEVwN9FWI

  44. JP on Mar 5, 2016 at 7:21 pm

So many elite and illustrious Buddhist masters propitiate Dorje Shugden practice as shown in the memes in this article. And as Rinpoche wrote, this is just a small list of masters. It’s impossible that only HHDL recently realized that Dorje Shugden is a harmful spirit after 400 years. In terms of spiritual attainments, many other masters are the same as HHDL. So what Rinpoche wrote above makes so much logical sense.

Many people tend to be blinded by fanaticism and become abusive as a result. Everyone has the right to choose their own faiths. Just because I don’t believe in HHDL’s allegations on Dorje Shugden, doesn’t mean I need to go on a crusade bashing his followers for giving up the practice. And likewise, just because HHDL’s followers give up Dorje Shugden’s practice, doesn’t give them the right to discriminate and abuse Dorje Shugden practitioners.

The concept of rebirth has a long association with Buddhism. Rebirth in Buddhism refers to the teaching that the actions of a sentient being lead to a new existence after death, in an endless cycle called saṃsāra. One will begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions. What they are reborn as depends on their actions in their previous life rather kamma. As a Buddhist we should believe in rebirth but still many people don’t . Buddha taught us that choices of rebirth make a difference and can shape many lifetimes. Buddhists believe that nothing that exists is permanent and everything will ultimately cease to be. Against the odds two inspiring nuns fought all the way to become ordained, fighting for their rights to practice Buddhism . Interesting read of how they went through , bringing equality for women in Thailand. Buddhism is the predominant religion in Thailand. Officially, only men can become monks and novices in Thailand under a Buddhist order. The country does not recognize female monks or novices. In recent years, more Thai Buddhist women seeking to become full-fledged female monks, have been defying the tradition getting ordained overseas, in Sri Lanka or India. Buddhist women have been fighting for years for equality and social acceptance in Thailand. They just can’t be ordained by Thai monks. Ven. Dhammananda, 68 year old former university lecturer and activist became Thailand’s first Theravadin bhikkhuni after going the odds. Inspiring read biography on Ven. Dhammananda and Ven. Dr. Lee. They had gone through great hardships, discrimination and against the many odds in bringing equality to women in Buddhism in Thailand.

The unseen things are spiritual realities that are eternal and invisible to our physical eye. There are many forces and phenomena that are not visible to the naked eye. There are many things that humans cannot see yet there are some could see. For what is can be seen is only. Things do exist even we can’t see, believing their existence is our choice. Things that we can’t see in the world opens up a curiosity and exploration by some. Whether through scientific inquiry, or spiritual exploration, the pursuit of knowledge about the unseen can lead to profound insights about ourselves and the universe.
Malacca City is the historic capital of the coastal state of Malacca, in Malaysia serving as a link between east and west for over 500 years. Famous for breath-taking sights with rich heritage, ancient dark culture and history with many old centuries buildings with an interesting past and a colourful ghost story. For that reason alone it is worth visiting as is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to its well-preserved historical center. There’s many historical mansions been passed down generation to generations and with many ghostly sighting by the locals and visitors. There’s the reason many unseen beings loitering and attached to these places. Such an interesting and incredibly creepy watching the video in this blog host by Li Kim. Li Kim had done a great work all along with her team to share with readers about our historic Malacca .

Vajrayogini symbolizes the wisdom of all enlightened beings and embodies the impulse of inspiration that drives the Buddhas to attain the perfect enlightenment. Vajrayogini is one of the most effective practices for people today. We can make offerings such as gold or jewel offerings and so on. The offering of gold helps us to collect merits, spiritual attainments, gain a deeper connection to Vajrayogini. It also creates the causes to attain a Buddha’s body.
Make Offerings to Vajrayogini in Kechara Forest Retreat at Bentong is such an meritorious way for us to collect merits. All thanks to our Guru having conceptualised the idea of having a statue of Vajrayogini for everyone . Recitation of Vajrayogini mantra can be a powerful tool for self-transformation, healing and liberation from samsara.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with details explanation .

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this insightful article. Life is short, and if we enjoy every moment of every day, then we will be happy no matter what happens or what changes along the way. What ever matter to us at the time of death is nothing. In the end, it’s not the years in our life that count it’s what you leave behind that matters. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.Death is the golden key that opens the palace of eternity. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Learning Dharma and practicing dharma is the our choice that’s matter. Some of the key points to take notes, read, study the Lam Rim and apply it, engage in Sadhana daily and consistently. No one will help us at the moment of death but ourselves. Spiritual practicing is the best choice.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Well the size of Buddha statues in Tibetan Buddhism is important because it represents the Buddha’s immense ability and vast knowledge. Hence the Buddha statues hold the symbol of satisfaction within, peace and happiness. They are a symbol of inspiration for every human being. When we focus on the Buddha statues, it gives us inner peace that our mind, our heart and our soul gets enlightened.
We have are so fortunate seeing and circumambulating where the 9-foot Dorje Shugden statue and with 500 mantra stones engraved with Dorje Shugden’s sacred mantra. As Rinpoche had said before the bigger and more Buddha statues helps in planting seeds of enlightenment in people’s mind-streams. It also help us to generate as much merit and purify as much karma as possible. Merely by seeing all those big statues at Kechara Forest Retreat is a blessing.
    Thank you Rinpoche.

The 4th Tagpu Pemavajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub, most commonly known as Tagpu Dorje Chang, was a highly accomplished yogi Highly attained lama who had many authentic visions of the Buddhas and even travel astrally to receive direct teachings from them. His recognised line of incarnations stem all the way back to the 14th Century. He is generally regarded as such amongst Gelug lineage holders. He spent most of his time in a hermitage located above Sera Monastery, gave teachings and transmitted many vital practices and lineages to his foremost student Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Besides receiving the complete instructions of Dorje Shugden’s practice, Tagpu Dorje Chang had many other mystical experiences throughout his lifetime. Interesting read biography of a highly accomplished mahasiddha lama.

n Tibetan culture, it is a popular and customary practice for families to invite monks to perform spiritual ceremonies such as Trusol rituals. The monks have had the opportunity to offer such ceremonies for individuals or their families. Such ceremonies purify the elements of the environment which helps those living or visiting there to experience good health, success and well-being. The sacred ritual of ‘bathing’ the Buddhas and consecration through which negativities, sicknesses and obstacles will be cleared. Where by filling those areas with positive energies and good vibes through this Trusol consecration puja. Water is an essential part of this puja and symbolises the cleansing of all negativities and impurities. Through this puja it also pacifies local deities and other unseen beings in the surrounding areas. We are indeed fortunate that Tsem Rinpoche has taught Kecharians this practice and it has benefited many.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands

Reading this post had me gain some knowledge of Shifter Werewolves. Any article regarding rare creatures or paranormal articles are of my interest since young. In European folklore, a werewolf is a man who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals, people, or corpses but returns to human form by day. They have the ability to transform from an ordinary human appearance to a partially-lupine form with pointed ears, mutton chops, claws and fangs, and a ridged brow . Wow… werewolf tends to be vicious and unable to control his blood thirst. Their underlying common origin can be traced back to Proto-Indo-European mythology. In many depictions, these bloodthirsty beasts are evil where they kill animals and innocent people. They are humans who transition into wolf-like creatures, after being placed under a curse. In folklore, most werewolves originate from being cursed or bitten by another werewolf. That’s what they do believe. According many enthusiasts, there’s many different type of werewolves such as Alpha wolves, Beta wolves , Deltas, Elders, some survive as loners while others move in packs. How true it is no one knows. I do believe their existing . Many interesting stories related to these wolves in the past history.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Beautiful Dorje Shugden at Malacca. One should pay a visit there, located at a busy tourist place. It was such an auspicious occasion that a grand Puja was held there. Dedicated students and volunteers were there getting the place ready for the grand puja. Well the Grand Dorje Shugden puja was conducted by very own Kechara puja team to commemorate the chapel’s 3rd anniversary. Many people attended the Puja that’s wonderful to receive the powerful Protector Dorje Shugden blessings. More people will make a connection and get to know Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, in the form of a Dharma Protector. May Dorje Shugden’s practice flourish to benefit those tourists and locals.

Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche is a highly realised meditation master known as a debater, scholar, and meditation master, was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition. He had also introduce the study of the five major topics of Buddhism to the West. He became the ‘path breaker’ of the complete and complex teachings of Buddhism in the West. Many masters, who are famous in the West today, were Geshe’s students. enerable Geshe Rabten. Geshe Rabten wrote the beautiful and Manjushri’s prayer called Gangloma and gave a profound explanation. We are so fortunate to learn about this Manjushri’s sacred prayer. May all be blessed by the practice of Lord Manjushri and Geshe Rabten’s explanation.

The begging bowl or alms bowl is one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Theravada Buddhist monks. The alms bowl still stands as an emblem of how all Buddhas, as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges, practiced to end their desire. All those who receive the alms bowl should focus their mind to act with self-control and self-respect. Almsgiving is a tradition of Theravada Buddhists, majority in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Laos. In those early days of Buddhism, monks would take their bowls and go out begging for food. As today in Thailand one could see monks woke up before dawn every morning and carried his bowl through the roads or paths wherever he was staying. Local people would place food in the bowl as a donation, through the generosity of lay people. They accept whatever food is offered for them and eat whatever been given, serve as a blessing for the giver.
One bowl has held the food of a thousand families. A solitary monastic travels on his journey of a hundred thousand miles seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Thank you H.E. Tsem Rinpoche for explaining the meaning of begging and gave us more reasons to be vegetarian . Create a awareness among us not killing animals to be one.

Ajahn Siripanyo, the son of billionaire Ananda Krishnan, chose to abandon his inheritance and become a Buddhist monk in pursuit of spirituality. A Thai-Malaysian monk born in London and educated in UK. He was ordained in Thailand and lived there, leaving behind a life of immense wealth and privilege. He did surprised many and his choice was unexpected. Initially as a temporary measure, but somehow later evolved into a permanent way of life. Ven. Ajahn Siripanyo is now the Abbot of hermitage Dtao Dam on the Thai-Burmese border in Saiyok National Park, Thailand.
He was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia years back giving an enthralling Dhamma talk on the timeless teachings of Ajahn Chah.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

Billions of terrestrial animals die annually. Billions. You can’t even imagine it. And all that because people don’t want to give up meat, even though there are so many alternatives. ~ Gabriel Azimov

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
