Hi pastors

Is the karmamudra practice with a consort apart of Vajroyaghini practice? I find this practice uncomfortable and never want to do it. I've been told that even married people can get a consort and do the mudra.
Also, if my Guru has passed away and they are not looking for the reincarnation per his wishes, is it ok to take a new Guru in the same school in order to continue receiving teachings and Empowerments thankyou

Dear Anonymous,

I cannot disclose if the Karmamudra practice is part of Vajra Yogini’s practice. However, within the Gelug tradition, the practice of taking a physical consort is not very much emphasised. That is because Lama Tsongkhapa emphasised monasticism and keeping monastic vows well, which means being celibate. However, even for lay people within the Gelug tradition, practising with a consort is also not encouraged. This is because both practitioners needs to be of a very high calibre, which most people are not at that level. That is why consort practice in Gelug is not done physically but through visualisation. This however, is an important part of certain Highest Yoga Tantric practice, but certainly not all of them.

If your guru is no longer physically with you anymore as they have entered Parinirvana, and you wish to take a new Guru within the same lineage, that is up to you. However, sometimes the guru may have left specific instructions regarding what his/her students should do after they have entered Parinirvana, like what Tsem Rinpoche did in Kechara. You should contact the senior students of your guru to find out more and ask for their advice. Thank you.

Hello pastor,
To start making connection from now I chose four armed mahakala as my dharma protector. I didn't get initiation but I have been developing connection before it. So nothing more but I do one mala of his mantra every day since last three months. In starting, I felt those protective energies and connection but since at least one month I don't feel any connection . What should I do on this whole matter?

Dear Bhavisha,

Please do continue your practice. Though you don’t feel the energies, it doesn’t mean that they are not there. If at first you felt them and now you do not, there may be a couple of reasons. The first is that Mahakala was manifesting signs to let you know if was good for you, but you already received the signs, so you already know that the practice is good, so you should just continue. Most people when they engage in any practices do not actually feel anything. So for you to feel anything is actually very good already. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Dear Alexa,

I’m very sorry to read that you are going through this. Depending on the severity of the situation, if it is very bad, you need to reach out to those people who you trust and seek professional advice and help in dealing with the situation.

If it is not at such a severe level, then you and you are old enough, and depending on your situation, if it is not something that you can handle, then you should find a way to remove yourself from the situation.

In addition to this, from the Dharma practice angle there are some things that you can do to help manage this situation:
> Practice a Dharma Protector such as Dorje Shugden, the practice is known to helping alleviate difficult life circumstances and create conducive conditions for both secular and spiritual life.
> Meditate on karma and also compassion. This will help you to deal with the situation in your own. It will not help the sitatution physically, but will help you deal with the emotional pain.
> Calmly talk to your father about his actions and how they have been affecting you. This may be difficult to do, but it is something that you need to try. (only do this if the situation is not very bad).

This practice is very well-known to help all manner of negative circumstances and to create good conditions for our lives. It has been relied on for hundreds of years for this very reason. In addition to this, you should try talking to your parents/family that are inclined to make an arranged marriage for you, and do so calmly and try to get them to understand your position. Spiritual practices alone will not simply solve the issue, you also need to work at it yourself physically, and the practices will to make what you do easier and more successful. Does practicing good virtues, upholding your precepts and engaging in meditation purify a LOT of negative karma? if so, can it ever be equivalent to Vajrasattva if done with the four opponent powers?

Dear Anonymous,

Yes, holding your precepts/vows/commitments and engaging in meditation does purify a lot of karma. This however, takes many lifetimes to achieve. It is a very slow method of purification.

That’s why we also have purification methods based on tantric systems, such as Vajrasattva. The amount of purification that happens is quicker, first by the power of Vajrsattva and second by our practice of the Four Opponent Powers.

If you simple practice holding precepts/vows/commitments, the Four Opponent Powers are not strong enough to purify a lot of karma quickly. When you engage in Vajrasattva practice, the practice of the 35 Confessional Buddhas or other purification deities, their practices include the generation of the Four Opponent Powers in a very strong way, hence the purification is quicker compared to simply holding vows.

I have a questions about that:
I had 2 texts of Sangsol offering.
One is Sang Offering to Lord Kalarupa and his retinues.
Second is Sang Offering to Lord Dorje Shugden and his retinues.
Now, I had some problems with my visa and I need emergency help with this.
Could you help me what's most Sang Offering that i should focus about?

Hi there John,

Thank you for your question. I’m sorry to read that you are going through such a situation.

You can do either, choose one and focus on it. Both are extremely powerful and effective. Though due to our karmic affinity, you may see quicker results when engaging in Dorje Shugden’s sangsol compared to Lord Kalarupa’s sangsol. This is due to the closeness karmically speaking to Dorje Shugden as he manifests in worldly form, where as Kalarupa manifests in an enlightened form. I hope this helps. Either sangsol however will be very good for you to engage in, according to your preference and if you feel more close to one than the other.

I’ve been told that negative karma results from harmful thoughts and intentions. If you tried to help someone out of compassion and love for them and you genuinely beloved that you’re helping them- will one accumulate negative karma if the actions result in harm to the person? Or is the intention the only thing that counts when it comes to accumulating negative karma

Hi Dyspi,

Thanks for your question. In the case where the intention is good, but the result is negative, you still collect negative karma because the person experienced some form of suffering, but it is a lot, lot less than if you did the same action with the negative intention. At the same time, because your intention was good, even though the result was negative, you also generate some form of good karma.

So when thinking about karma, even though we explain and learn about it in terms of only good or bad karma, actually one act can produce karma that is mixed, both positive and negative.

There are actually four parts to the creation of karma – the object, intention, action and completion. To learn more about this, you should read the Lamrim teachings. The text we use here in Kechara is known as Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand (https://www.vajrasecrets.com/lamrim-liberation-in-the-palm-of-your-hand). I hope this helps.

How much karma and what types of karma can Vajrasattva practice purify if it is 108 recitations or more? Depending on motivation ofc

Dear Leo,

Vajrasattva practice can purify all types of karma when recited, as can any purification practice. There is no specific type or amount of karma that can be purified in terms of how many mantras you recite. Simply reciting the mantra will help to purify, but only to a small extent. This is due to the power of Vajrasattva and his mantra. Actually, purification on a transformation level occurs when you generate the Four Opponent Powers of which the actual method of purification, Vajrasattva mantra, is just one of the Powers.

If you recite Vajrasattva’s mantra with the Four Opponent powers say 21 times, you can purify 10 points of karma (I’m just quantifying karma so it’s easier to understand). But if you simple recite Vajrasattva mantra 108 times without the Four Opponent Powers, then perhaps you only purify 2-3 points of karma. So you should be worried about numbers to recite, but the quality of your practice. That being said, if you recite 108 times with the Four Opponent Powers then that is like 50 points of karma purified. Imagine how powerful that is for your transformation!

I have been facing stomach issues since years and when I intense pain started I started medicine buddha mantra recitation so pain vanished just like that, after that I keep reciting it but other issues are not going like intense constipation ans bloating.
Also I feel breathing issues time to time like now days. Even when I in medicine where I am so calm I feel breathing issues.
Which mantra can heal my both issues.
It's not like I am doubting medicine buddha, I have seen the miracle of recitation of his mantra. I just want something more effective for both problems so I can do my dharma practices more intensely and focus on that.
Help me.

Nice to see you here. Sorry to read about your health issues. We would recommend the practice of Shize. Shize is a Dharma Protector, so the benefits of his healing energies can be felt quicker than compared with Medicine Buddha. You can combine the practice with Medicine Buddha, so you get more benefit. You should engage in the practice of Medicine Buddha first, and then Shize. Doing both the practice together like this will be more effective as both are healing deities. At the same time, please do keep taking the medication prescribed by your doctor. If you are still having physical symptoms when taking the medication, go back to the doctor to explain the symptoms. Perhaps he can give other medications which do not have so much affects, or consider getting a second opinion. In Buddhism, we do not just rely on spiritual practices to heal, but it is combined with medical healing as well. I hope this helps and pray that your health problems are solved quick and you become healthy! Thank you.

Hello! How does one practice self visualization for yidam?
Do you look at yourself from a third person perspective or first person pov?

Self-visualisation as a yidam is only done if you have the initiation of that particular deity. It is done in first person pov. If you don’t have the initiation of that particular deity, then you can visualisation the deity in front of you instead. You can only do this with lower tantric deities. To practice the higher tantric deities, you must have the initiation of that deity. Practicing deities without having the correct initiation can actually lead to problems in your spiritual path, as the energies received during initiation play an important role. The vows and commitments received also help to guide your practice in general so that your deity practice is successful. I hope this helps to answer your question. Thank you.

Is nirvana a permanent stage according to buddhism or do we have to come back to participate in creation even after merging back with the source (like daoist belief and understanding)

Dear Ananya,

In Buddhism, once you reach the state of Nirvana or Enlightenment, it is permanent. Though you can choose to emanate back into samsara, or creation as you termed it, to benefit others and help lead them to the state of Nirvana too. However, you don’t loose the state of Nirvana even if you decide to do this. You remain and enlightened being, but simply take forms within samsara to benefit others. Normally, ordinary beings are at the mercy of karma as to where and when and how they take rebirth and the lives that they need to live. Enlightened beings because they are ‘outside’ of this system can choose where and how they take rebirth and how they live their lives to benefit others.

Do Buddhas and Bodhisattvas only help those who call out to them? They have compassion for every being but do they save or help non-buddhist? Can they only help us if we accept their help?

Hi Alle,

Yes, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas help everyone regardless if you are Buddhist or not. If you call out to them, they do help. For example, I have a Hindu friend who prays to Dorje Shugden and his prayers have been answered many times. So if you call out to them and accept them, meaning you are Buddhist, you will definitely gain their aid. However, even if you are not a Buddhist, but call out to them anyway, they will still help.

Actually, they are trying to help all the time, but our karma stops us from receiving their help. The act of invoking upon them, calling out to them, creates a connection that can cut through karma and allow us to receive their help. That is why Buddhists engage in practices daily, to ensure that the connection is there as much as possible so that we can benefit from their help.

Of all the great Dorje Shugden Lamas and Tulkus in the world he felt that only Tsem Tulku was the one person who he could trust to do it. Did Rinpoche every talk about this great honour giving to him by Dorje Shugden.

The stories of Methar and Shangmo Dorje Putri, information about them, etc,. has been available, even in the English language, for a while. Both were placed in Dorje Shugden’s entourage by very high lamas in Tibet. Since that is the case, Tsem Rinpoche did not reintroduce them back into Dorje Shugden’s retinue, they were already there and information was available about them if you looked in the right places. Tsem Rinpoche chose to highlight them in a handful of the articles in the Dorje Shugden category of his blog, which has a total of 614 different articles about Dorje Shugden, his history, practice, lineage, etc. Tsem Rinpoche’s aim and goal was to try to preserve the information and share it.

Tsem Tulku gave Dorje Shugden as a YIDAM practice to some of his students so claims Pastor David Lai.

He stated this in his Youtube video of August 10, 2021 titled, "Once Upon A Time With Rinpoche – Rinpoche's Personal Yidam Pt 6".

Dear Charlene,

Rinpoche had assigned Dorje Shugden as the main practise that certain students should practice, hence they take Dorje Shugden as their “yidam” referring to Dorje Shugden being their primary practice, due to affinity, need, etc.

As Pastor David clarified, Dorje Shugden is an enlightened being. So he can be practised as a proper yidam, however there doesn’t exist the practice of Dorje Shugden as a yidam, or meditation deity, only a Protector deity. The criteria for a deity to be considered a yidam deity is the generation and completion stages associated with tantra. That is the difference between whether a deity is practised as a Dharma Protector or a Yidam. Pastor David has clarified these in other talks that he has given, but I cannot remember which ones, as it was not the main topic.

For example, let’s take the example of White Mahakala. He has texts that propitiate him as a Dharma Protector, so he is practised as a Dharma Protector. He is also fully enlightened, and lamas do assign his practice as a Dharma Protector as the main practise that a student should focus on. In that sense he is their ‘yidam’ because he is the main practice that they focus on.

However, he is also practised as a proper yidam, because there are initiations, lineages and practice texts that include the generation and completion stages, so in that case he is a proper yidam. That is the main difference between emanations of enlightened deities being either a Dharma Protector or a Yidam. Currently there are no lineages of Dorje Shugden being practised as a yidam, only a Dharma Protector. I hope the difference is clear.

So there is actually no contradiction with what Pastor David said, because of how Pastor David used the word yidam to refer to a person’s main practise, and the actual definition of the difference between a Dharma protector and a yidam. As stated by Tsem Rinpoche himself on many occasions, Dorje Shugden is Manjushri, and as an enlightened being he can be practised as a proper yidam, but this practice simply does not exist at the moment. Hopefully in the future, Dorje Shugden and the Lamas will manifest his teaching as a yidam replete with both the completion and generation stages. I hope this helps. Thank you.

I asked about Tsem Tulku being a Yidam since I was told that he considered himself be be an emanation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. That would explain Tsem Tulku's utter devotion to spreading the works of Dorje Shugden to the World.

Dear Charlene,

If you are taking the example of Rinpoche’s previous lives, there were also spiritual teachers, hence they would not be practiced as yidams or meditation deities. This is the case with Tsem Rinpoche and all of Rinpoche’s previous incarnations. To call upon his blessings, as mentioned in the previous question, this is done through Guru Yoga practices.

Also, you’ve mentioned the practice of Dorje Shugden. This practice is a Dharma Protector practice, not a yidam or meditational deity practice. Though there are some Dharma Protectors who can be practised as both, as their practice arose in that manner, for example Sengdongma or White Mahakala. The practice of Dorje Shugden however is purely a Dharma Protector practice. Thanks.

Can i have Tsem Tulku as my Yidam?

Dear Charlene,

Yidams are meditational deities with very specific functions. Tsem Rinpoche was a guru, so he would never be practised as a yidam. You can however practice the Guru Yoga of Tsem Rinpoche, which is available here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/instructions-for-tsem-rinpoches-name-mantra-retreat.html you can read the commentary to the practice and engage in it daily, but you don’t need to follow the retreat rules and guidelines as set out in the post.

The function of Guru Yoga is to provide huge amounts of blessings, inspiration and merits for our spiritual transformation. The article explains more about what the Guru Yoga is and how to do it in the commentary section. This can be done by anyone and there are no vows or commitments that need to be taken. Hello, I want to ask about karma purification.

How does purification Buddha practices like Vajrasattva purify karma? Does it stop karmic seeds from ripening? Or does it actually force negative karma to manifest in unfortunate situations right now?

Dear Anonymous,

Purification is a big topic and a little too complicated to explain in detail here. Basically, when you engage in the purification, you use what are know as the Four Opponent Powers. Depending on how strong you generate these within your mind and how much effort you put in to purification practice, there are three results. The lowest results is that you stop some of your karma from multiplying, the middle result is that you lessen the effects of some of your karma and the highest result is that you purify that karma completely, so you don’t need to experience the result any more.

When you are engaged in heavy and extended periods of purification practices, such as when in retreat, some times what happens is that as the karma is being purified you will feel its lessened effects. For example, if you have a particular negative body karma that means you may get into an accident, and you are engaged in heavy purification practices, because the force of that karma is very strong and the Buddhas are helping you to get rid of it, maybe you get an ache in your leg because you sat on your meditation cushion too long. Or perhaps you have the karma to go through tremendous emotional suffering, so when in retreat this can manifest as a disturbed mind that cannot concentrate. This is due to the middling level of purification and the blessings of the Three Jewels.

When engaged in purification practice generally or an a daily basis, such things are less likely to occur, almost never. So in that sense, purification practices do not make negative karma manifest in unfortunate circumstances as we usually think about. If your practice is middling level during intensive practices, yes, some times it can manifest, but in a very different and controlled manner.

Another example, perhaps you have the karma to be in a serious car accident, but on a daily basis if you do purifications practices, such as Vajrasattva or Protector Kawang, you have been purifying karma slowly over time. You haven’t got rid of the karma completely, so if the causes and conditions are right, then that karma will still ripen, but to a small extent. For example instead of being serious harmed physically, you only a small scratch, but apart from that everything else is fine. I hope that makes sense? Thank you.

Pastor Chia (sangha to be)

As a pastor, Chia will dedicate his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

Ordained as a Pastor in 2011, Chia Song Peng has had a rich and varied Dharma career. He has held a core position with the Kechara Paradise retail outlets, served as a personal attendant to Tsem Rinpoche, embarked on various pilgrimages and received initiations into higher yoga tantric practices. He is accomplished in many pujas and has a deep understanding of the Dharma.

As a pastor, Chia has dedicated his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

When Chia first met Tsem Rinpoche, he was asked if he wanted to become a monk, however even though this was his aspiration he informed Tsem Rinpoche that he would do so at a later date. For Chia, as he has is already in the Dharma full-time, it would be best if he became ordained. Tsem Rinpoche has reminded Chia from time to time to work towards becoming a monk and he promised that he would do so in the future.

Kechara began from nothing to become a growing Dharma organisation with major projects such as Kechara Forest Retreat, so Chia thinks that this is the perfect time to become ordained as a monk. Recently Tsem Rinpoche asked Chia again if he would like to be ordained, this time Chia said yes.

Pastor Khong Jean Ai (sangha to be)

Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings.

Jean Ai met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche as a young child and through her parents' involvement with Kechara over the years, she has never known a life without His Eminence. Jean Ai was a regular volunteer of Tsem Ladrang during her childhood and teenage years. After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Warwick in the UK and working at the London Probation Service, she returned to Kuala Lumpur to join Tsem Ladrang's e-division. There she managed kechara.com, responsible for the weekly Kechara e-newsletter, including content generation and editing. Since then she has joined His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s writing team, responsible for executing Rinpoche’s personal instructions and managing his correspondence.

Having visited a nunnery in India in 2004, Jean Ai remembers noticing how happy and purposeful everyone was. She had a feeling of familiarity and the sight of the robes comforted her. Immediately, Jean Ai messaged her mother who told her to ask Rinpoche’s advice. Rinpoche told her to complete her secular education so that when she taught the Dharma her words would carry the credibility and weight of a university degree, something she completed with the motivation that some day she wanted to become a nun.

Through her ordination as a nun, Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings. Through this she hopes to repay the kindness of her parents and her Guru. Above all she wants to abide in a state free of suffering, and she wants this for others as well.

Pastor Shin Tan (sangha to be)

For Shin, this is a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Before joining Kechara, Shin worked as a lecturer and provider of content and e-learning content solutions for various start-ups. Whilst providing training to educators teaching students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at various colleges, she was invited to attend a Dharma talk given by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at Kechara House. This event rekindled her interest in Tibetan Buddhism, as she recalled the joy of accompanying her parents to teachings as a teenager.

Joining Kechara Media & Publications in 2006 as a volunteer, Shin assumed a full time position there as a Marketing Executive, with the aim of making His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings available to more people around the world. Shin is now a member of the Tsem Ladrang Team, who takes care of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s secular matters, enabling Rinpoche to focus on teaching the holy Dharma.

Shin states that when she decided to join Kechara full time, she had already decided to be of some benefit to others and spend the rest of her life doing only that. Working closely with His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, seeing his tireless effort in helping others and spreading the Buddhadharma through the Gaden tradition despite tremendous challenges has made her realise that the next logical step is to become ordained as she has the opportune conditions to study with her Guru. For Shin this is also a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Pastor Adeline Woon (sangha to be)

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission and wishes to dedicate herself fully towards the benefit of others.

Adeline stumbled across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche's blog towards the end of 2010 and has been following his blog and Facebook page ever since. Since graduating from Dharma Drum Buddhist College Taiwan with a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies in July 2012, she returned to Malaysia and joined Kechara as a Senior Education Executive. Adeline was attracted by His Eminence’s straightforwardness and impressed at Kechara's growth under his guidance. To Adeline, His Eminence is someone who walks the talk, keeps his promises and sincerely cares for others displaying an excellent example of guru devotion, qualities that she seeks to develop herself.

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission. It was in May 2013 that she officially requested His Eminence for ordination as a nun to dedicate her life fully for the dharma. According to Adeline, become ordained means that she is being true to her calling to live according to the dharma and be of benefit to others.

This however can only be achieved by meeting and studying under her root Guru. Adeline has been fortunate enough to have met with hers - His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.

Pastor Niral Patel (sangha to be)

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Niral was born and raised in the UK, having graduated with a BA in Anthropology, he was working as a Financial Administrator for a Serviced Apartment & Hotel company as well as a Management Services company before stumbling across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s Youtube channel, entirelyby accident. It was through His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings that he began to understand the importance of practicing the Dharma, in order to benefit himself and others around him.

Having been in contact with one of Tsem Rinpoche’s long time students in the UK, he was encouraged to visit Kechara in late 2012 for a 10 day visit. At the end of the visit Tsem Rinpoche requested Niral to come to work at Kechara, to which he agreed.

Niral moved to Malaysia in February 2013 to work as an education coordinator at Kechara House, assisting the Education Division in the creation and implementation of the new education syllabus, teaching teenagers during the Kechara Sunday Dharma School. Ever since meeting Tsem Rinpoche, he has always been encouraged by Tsem Rinpoche to do more Dharma work and strive to better himself. It is with that in mind, that Niral has requested monastic ordination.

Pastor Tan Gim Lee (sangha to be)

Gim Lee’s main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara’s doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche’s kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa’s holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

She discovered Kechara by chance in 2006 and started to participate Kechara's activities almost immediately especially the retreat to collect 10 million Migtsema recitations. In April 2006, when Gim Lee met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and first listened to his teachings, she wept uncontrollably. Though she could not understand it at the time, she had finally found her perfect teacher. She is especially touched by Tsem Rinpoche's compassionate method of teaching by setting his own examples.

Having joined as a staff of Kechara House responsible for housekeeping in 2009, Gim Lee is now one of Kechara House's Front Desk Managers predominantly based in the retreat centre in Bentong, Pahang. She also teaches the Sunday Dharma Class and moderates Dharma discussions on Tsem Rinpoche's blog chat.

The many teachings she has received from Tsem Rinpoche have changed her priorities in life. She found answers to her questions about the purpose of life, and she has realised that the way to overcome the sufferings of pain and anger is by following the path of compassion and wisdom as taught by Lord Buddha. These realisations have led to her request to be ordained as a Sangha member.

As pastor now, and later as a Buddhist nun, Gim Lee's main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara's doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. Pastor Loh Seng Piow (sangha to be)

Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Back in 2001, Loh Seng Piow had no inkling of just how involved in Dharma he would become. As a Masters degree-holder in Engineering, Loh Seng Piow was working as a research engineer in Singapore when he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s talk left a strong impression on him and after a few encounters with Rinpoche, Loh Seng Piow started developing websites for Rinpoche and Kechara.

Loh Seng Piow was trained in science, but soon realised that there were many questions that science could not answer. At the same time, he also felt that science and technology are not the solution to human problems, as humans are much better off compared to thousands years ago, yet the problems in this world are still the same, if not more, and we do not seem to be happier than our ancestors.

Loh Seng Piow soon realised that the Dharma is the ultimate solution to human problems, and that the methods used by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche are very suitable for this modern era. Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Meeting Rinpoche was a very refreshing experience for Loh Seng Piow, as he never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. As Rinpoche’s personal attendant, Loh Seng Piow has had many incredible moments with Rinpoche and considers himself extremely fortunate because he sees real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. It challenges him to practice Dharma 24/7. In this way, Rinpoche has blown away his old and persistent way of thinking, which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Having seen that Tsem Rinpoche truly embodies what he teaches, Loh Seng Piow is convinced beyond doubt that it is possible to develop our minds to a higher state, and ultimately achieving enlightenment. All these factors have propelled Loh Seng Piow to take a step further in his Dharma career to become ordained as a pastor in order to be even more effective in sharing and disseminating the Dharma to benefit others.

Pastor Yek Yee

Naturally an introvert, Yek Yee has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

Independence was forced upon Kok Yek Yee from the tender age of nine, when she had to juggle between work and school to make ends meet. Always the introvert, Yek Yee had few friends and had difficulty expressing herself. So it was unexpected when she chose a career in journalism.

Yek Yee excelled as an award-winning reporter with Guang Ming Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau. Her articles garnered her a fanbase, and in writing, she found an outlet for the thoughts and feelings that she could not verbalise. However, despite her success, Yek Yee was not satisfied. Temporary happiness was not what she was looking for – success, money, relationships, or fame was not the key.

In her search for happiness, Yek Yee met H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, who told her “don’t retaliate with your speech, but use your power of writing to express yourself”. This led her to join Kechara Media & Publications as a writer; subsequently she was appointed Senior Editor as well as a Liaison to His Eminence.

Yek Yee now holds a core role in Kechara Care, giving advice, tours, counseling and teachings to whoever walks through their doors. Through courage and determination, she has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

As a Pastor, her patience and open-mindedness developed through her journey with Kechara will bring comfort and solace, and her new-found ability to nurture and teach others will bring hope to many.

Pastor Lanse Chiah

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Lanse graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China in 1999 and became a part-time lecturer for several years, teaching western medicine in a Traditional Chinese medical college in Kuala Lumpur.

For a long time, Lanse remained an atheist, subconsciously searching for a spiritual guru as she sought answers to questions she harboured in her mind, questions that had led her into a state of depression during her time at university. As such, she would often read philosophical books in her search for answers.

Lanse first came to know of Kechara in 2007, through her friend of over 10 years, Pastor Yek Yee. She was surprised to see a complete transformation in Pastor Yek Yee, whom she had always known as a non-spiritual person. The first book by Kechara that Lanse chanced upon was the Chinese version of Be Greedy. Naturally, Lanse was skeptical at first, thus she read the book in an attempt to find mistakes with the philosophy. However, she couldn’t find any and was left impressed by how logical the explanations in the book were.

In March 2009, Lanse joined Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) part-time to carry out Chinese translation and help with transcription. The following year, she contemplated upon whether to pursue a full-time medical or a Dharma career, finally deciding on the latter. Lanse came to realise that, although both careers share the same motivation of easing people’s sufferings, she felt that her work in Dharma could lead to a greater contribution for the sake of all sentient beings in a deeper, spiritual sense.

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Pastor Han Nee

It was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

Lim Han Nee, a mother of two, is a retired secondary school principal. She retired in December 2000 after a 30-year career in education. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education at Leicester University in the UK, at the end of 2001.

After gaining her master’s degree, Han Nee considered further options of embarking on a doctorate in education or spending her years in retirement, travelling and visiting family. At the same time, she was also in search of her spiritual path. She had begun exploring Theravadan and Chinese Mahayana Buddhism for answers to questions she had.

In December 2004, Han Nee attended a teaching retreat on the topic of the Lamrim and White Tara held by His Eminence Gelek Rinpoche. As the retreat proceeded, she found her questions were being answered. Then in June 2005, Han Nee was introduced to Kechara by her sister, where she met her spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who has recently told her that she must go all the way in the Dharma for the benefit of others.

Han Nee had been a school guidance counsellor for nearly twenty years. However, it was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

A member of Kechara’s Puja Team, who conduct sponsored pujas in Shabten Khang, Han Nee is also a member of the Education Division with the portfolio of Content Development. Apart from this, Han Nee is also a member of the weekly Kechara Chat Time team.

Pastor David Lai

In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

David Lai has been a student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche for over a decade now and was one of the founding members of Kechara. He joined Kechara as a full time staff in 2005 and has been working in various departments beginning with the Kechara Paradise outlets.

Right from the beginning, David had been advised by His Eminence to go into writing. Overcoming various hurdles, David finally began his literary career with the publication of his first book and autobiography, There’s No Way But Up in 2009. The book charts his spiritual journey from his childhood and culminates in the meeting with His Eminence.

The positive feedback from this book led him to write various other publications like Vajrayogini and Other Power Places in Nepal – a pilgrim’s guide of Nepal, Tales My Lama Told Me – a book on short stories and Conversations in Love – a book on relationships. These books continue to inspire and bring people onto the Dharma.

Besides writing, David has found his passion in sharing the Dharma since his earlier days working in the Kechara Paradise outlets. Over the years, David has received innumerable teachings from His Eminence, ranging from public teachings to personal instructions and advice. He is known to passionately share these teachings whenever he can and to whomever he meets. In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

Pastor Henry Ooi

Born in 1952 in Penang, Henry moved to Kuala Lumpur in search of work after he finished his Form Five studies in 1969. He worked at different types of jobs and it was when he was jobless in 1997/8 that he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at the house of his cousin, Ruby (now Dato’ Ruby Khong), when Rinpoche was giving a dharma teaching. At that teaching Henry was awed by how Rinpoche taught Dharma with simple yet profound explanations.

With the kind guidance, teachings and Dharma practices by Rinpoche including instruction to engage in their first spiritual retreat, Henry and his wife Angel started a small business that soon became profitable. A few years later after Kechara House Buddhist Association was founded, Rinpoche started to enrol students as liaisons and that was when Henry and Dato’ Ruby offered themselves. Later more students were elected as liaisons that saw the birth of Liaisons Council. The Liaisons Council is now known as the Board of Directors of which Henry is one of its members.

Currently Henry is the Project Director, overseeing the construction and completion of projects in the Kechara Forest Retreat. Prior to this appointment he was the Head of Department in Kechara Paradise retail outlets of which he served for about ten years. He still remains as its company director as well as director for most of the companies within Kechara. He served one term as vice president of Kechara House Buddhist Association from 2012 to 2103.

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public. As he aspires to be a monk as he grows older, being a pastor of Kechara will pave the way for his aspiration. Henry believes that as one gets older in life, one should have already prepared for the imminent, death. And what a beautiful death it will be, to die in Kechara Forest Retreat in a monk’s robes. This is the kind of death that Henry wants. But before the imminent death happens, Henry wants to continue working in Kechara Forest Retreat, serving the community and whoever comes into it in whatever way he can. And when he is not physically anymore to serve others, he will request instructions from Rinpoche to enter into retreats in Kechara Forest Retreat.

Pastor Patsy Gooi

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work, dharma practices and being of benefit to others.

Formerly a full time housewife with plenty of free time, Patsy had the great fortune to visit Gaden Monastery and meet H.E. Tsem Rinpoche almost twenty years ago. That one week stay in the monastery changed her view of life. Prior to that, she had no spiritual inclinations but meeting Rinpoche stirred something inside her, and she realised that there was more to life than just eating, sleeping, shopping and having fun. Rinpoche’s approach to dharma was logical and practical but most importantly, he stressed that we should always focus out and work towards benefitting others. Rinpoche made dharma easy to understand and his advice was and still is, to “change inwardly, not outwardly.”

In 2009, after years of practicing and applying what she had learned from Rinpoche’s teachings, Patsy decided to set up a Kechara retail outlet in Penang to share the dharma with others. She knew that Rinpoche’s teachings were very applicable to the people of our time and that his activities would benefit others just as they had benefited her. She also wanted to repay the kindness of her Guru who had constantly helped and guided her. Today, Kechara Paradise Penang is not just a dharma shop but also organises puja sessions, animal liberation and dharma talks.

In 2010, again with Rinpoche’s blessings, Patsy set up the Kechara Soup Kitchen Activity Center in Penang. Saddened to see the plight of the homeless and urban poor on the streets, Patsy decided to practice “compassion through action” as taught by Rinpoche in the most active way she knows. Today, together with her team of volunteers, Patsy feeds the homeless and urban poor four times a week and provides basic food provisions to many hardcore poor families on a monthly basis.

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work and dharma practices, and that she may be of benefit to others.

Pastor Albert Ratchaga

In 2008, Albert Ratchaga began working as a part timer in Kechara Paradise, but as he learned more about the works of Rinpoche and Kechara, Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion touched him deeply. He realised that his work gave his life more meaning and decided to join Kechara full time.

Through his work as a sales executive, Albert was able learn more Dharma from Rinpoche's teachings and use this wisdom to assist those who entered his store to overcome their problems, thus improving their lives.

Albert soon developed a deep wish to follow in Rinpoche’s footsteps and in 2016 was ordained as a Pastor to continue benefitting and serving others.

Well thought out article where Rinpoche gave a precious teaching. Encourage us to go vegetarian showing compassion to all sentient beings by not causing suffering or death. To make a conscious effort to avoid contributing to the suffering and death of animals is the best choice. Going vegetarian in Buddhism is a choice motivated by compassion. I do agree with Rinpoche that we should not be too attached to meat. Very true there is nothing to lose by going vegetarian. What enlightened and attained beings do we can’t , we follow the conventional way .

Miyolangsangma is the Tibetan Buddhist goddess who lives at the top of Chomolungma . She is the goddess of inexhaustible giving and of Everest and the Khumbu area in general. She rides a golden tigress and hands out the jewels of wishes to those deserving.
Mount Everest, at 8,848.86 meters , is the highest mountain on Earth and presents one of the ultimate challenges for climbers. Climbers scaling Mount Everst involves navigating extreme altitude, severe weather conditions will stop by at Tengboche Monastery . They will seek blessing from Lama Geshe a Buddhist monk, known for blessing climbers by reciting a mantra to Miyolangsangma. Climbers will be given a talisman containing Miyolangsangma’s mantra, to be worn around the neck for protection while scaling Mount Everest. That’s awesome.

Each year, locals in the North Atlantic’s Faeroe Islands drive herds of sea mammals into shallow waters, where they are stabbed to death. In keeping with the annual, barbaric tradition of killing dolphins, thousands of these mammals were killed. Whales and several dolphin species are herded by boats into shallow bays or onto beaches. According to the animal rights activist, back then, this hunt was necessary for the survival of the villages. Looking at those pictures shows dolphins thrashing around in waters turned red with blood as hundreds of people watch on from the beach.
The practice of dolphin hunting in the Faroe Islands has come under scrutiny recently. Its really cruel , hopefully more people are aware of this cruel practice and abandoned . Moreover soon or later dolphins will be extinct.

DATUK YIP KUM FOOK AND SIMON LOW KOK MENG are scammers because they defrauded IC people in Malaysia, and many people have been victims before. They are scammed everywhere, and they are also gangsters in the Kepong area. Now, many people have found and checked their families, and people are spreading it on the internet.

One of them is Ng Hong Seong, the victim. He suffered because he gave his National Identity Card to Datuk Yip Kum Fook to find a job. Many police officers and some gangsters contacted him about finances to borrow money from various banks. Datuk Yip Kum Fook used the police to harass people.

Now, many people know about this group (Yip Kum Fook & Simon Low) because they were expelled by Buddhist monks from the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, and burned down the Hindu Temple in Taman Daya, Kepong.

We hope everyone can share this message fully to stop this evil in this world. They need to know that people are very sad and scared.

Mount Wutai is a sacred Buddhist site and is the abode of Manjushri and is a sacred Buddhist mountain with five peaks, and is one of four great sacred mountain in China Located at the headwaters of the Qingshui in Shanxi Province China. Mount Wutai is a World heritage site well known for both its geological and scenic natural landscapes, and cultural heritage. It boasts of over 68 different styles of temples built over 7 dynasties housing numerous Buddhist relics . Temples have been built on this site from the 1st century AD to the early 20th century. The temples are inseparable from their mountain landscape a cultural tradition that is still living. I am fortunate able to go there years back with Kechara a pilgrimage life time experience for me.

Wow….amazing Bao’en Temple an ancient temple in the remote hill located in Pingwu County, in north-western Sichuan Province, China . It’s a well-preserved fifteenth-century Buddhist temple which has such a unique shockproof against earthquake. Not only one earthquake but three with researcher credit to the building’s design and using Phoebe nanmu wood used for its construction. All the architecture reflects the architecture of imperial Palace. A well-preserved 15th-century Buddhist temple considered a national treasure, an architectural gem and a preserved cultural site. Dedicated to the Emperor Yingzong in the Ming Dynasty featuring an exquisite architectural elements and treasures of 1,004-armed Avalokiteshvara statue and a revolving prayer wheel. That’s awesome, looking at those pictures in the post.

From ancient times to the colonial era courtesans are deeply rooted in the historical fabric of India. Their culture refers to the historical role of high-class, educated female entertainers in societies. These women held significant cultural and social influence, acting as patrons of the arts. They are known for exceptional skills in classical music, dance and poetry. It was during the British colonial rule and the rise of modern social values , these cultures seems to decline. Many women nowadays began to receive equal recognition, appreciation, and stature been noticed. And yet there is still in some place women were seconded in some societies. When it comes to mind training and the development of compassion and wisdom, gender does not matter. In Buddhism, there’s no discrimination toward women, both men and women are equal. It has proven that many women have gained full enlightenment in a female body.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story.
