Is Kuan Yin / Chenrezig real? Do you have any experiences of him helping/communicating with you? Or do you know any people who does? Please let me know! I would love to hear stories

Chenrezig is defintely real for sure. I personally do not have any experiences of communicating with him. As per the teachings, explained by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche to have an experience with an enlightened being is not as easy as people think. We all have a lot of negative karma and emotion/mental obscurations. These mean we cannot usually actually experience the enlightened beings. In order to have an experience of them, you really need to practice the Dharma and engage in a lot of purification practices. Once such example is Lama Tsongkhapa, the founder of our Gelug lineage. He engaged in extensive retreats for years before he was able to experience the deities right there in front of him. They were always there actually, they are all around us and when we call upon them, do prayers, recite mantras, they are there, it’s just that our negative karma, emotional/mental obscurations and our limited perception means that we cannot experience them. In order to that, you really need to engage in spiritual practice, which means transformation of the mind. Once you have spiritual realisations, then you are able to perceive the deities directly.

All of this is in terms of have an ‘experience’ of the deity. However, when we prayer, engage in meditations, etc, they are definitely there to help us. We have to raise our own consciousness to the level that we can see and experience them. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Dear Ugyen,

There may not be a specific meaning to indicate anything. Sometimes we see them in dreams because we are familiar with the deities or practice the deities, or just like the deities. So our subconscious manifests them in our dreams. Other times, it could mean that we have an affinity with them. And at other times it can be a reminder for us to focus on our spiritual practice of transformation.

Whatever the case it, you should feel good and rejoice. You saw two holy beings in your dreams! If it was just your subconscious or something else, feel happy about it but don’t dwell on it to find meaning etc. Take it as a sign that the enlightened beings are reminding you to practice the Dharma.

Topic of the women's menstrual cycle is most discussed all over the world especially in religion like Hinduism that during these days woman should go temple and do puja or not.
I really want to know buddhist approach on it that should I do sadhna and go to manstery these days, especially when we r engaged in tantric ritual and sadhna. Do buddhist nuns continue their sadhna during these days?

Very interesting question. In Buddhism, as taught by our Guru, women can go to Buddhist temples and monasteries when they are on their monthly cycle. It’s no problem at all. They can and should also do their sadhanas too. A sadhana is daily practice and higher practices come with the commitment never to miss even a single day without doing your sadhana. So if a woman stopped doing her sadhana during her monthly cycle, she would break her commitment. So women in Buddhism, are not prohibited from religious activities due to menstuation.

There are however some execptions, for example, it is recommended that menstruating women not enter certain shrines during their cycle. These shrines are to the very wrathful deities and Dharma protectors. The reason being that during menstruation, there are natural energetic processes occuring within a woman’s body. If they are not strong enough energetically, the wrathful energies within the shrine can disrupt the natural processes within their bodies, so they become ill. It’s not to do with the deities being angry or upset, etc. Women who are well practised in their sadhanas and can control the energies in the body can enter the shrines during menstruation. In fact, even if a man’s internal energy is low or not moving correctly and he enters such shrines, the same thing can happen.

For most women, it is not recommened to enter the shrines though there is no actual prohibition against them entering, etc. Such shrines however, don’t really exist outside Tibet, and I have not heard of such things happening in any temple outside of Tibet itself.

In regards to Buddhist nuns, yes, they must continue with their sadhanas and attend pujas in their respective prayer halls and temples as usual. I hope this helps.

Oh, I see. I find myself resonating with Theravadin teachings more and liberation as arhat. Would Green Tara mind me taking self-liberation path? Can I pray to her to remove obstacles on my dharma practice even if I am Theravada? I did some reading and found that visualization often comes with Green Tara practice, so that would technically count as Vajrayana.

Dear Clea,

It’s no problem to pray to Green Tara even if you practice the Theravadin path. You can still pray to her, there is no problem or contradiction. She will help you in your chosen path to liberation.

Yes, visualisation is involved in the Vajrayana path, so you if you are not comfortable with it, then there is no need to visualise. Just pray to Tara from your heart and she will hear you. As with any Buddhist practice whether Theravada or Vajrayana, the most important aspect is to improve yourself, be compassionate and transform your mind. When you do this, she will surely help you when you pray to her.

Greeting from Sydney Australia. I have been receiving Dharma from H.E Tsem Rinpoche and really want H.E to be my guru,what should i do? The reason is i can feel the connection is there yet not very strong,however since following H.E Tsem Rinpoche i can see changes in my life,in a good way of course.
Also,i have Buddhas altar at home and chinese deities (Sangharama, Du Di Gong,etc) question is can i do prostration to Them as well or only to the Buddhas?

For the Chinese deities, as a Buddhist we do not prostrate to them as they are gods, we only to the Buddhas. If you have an altar, you can place them next to your Buddhist altar, at a slightly lower level. That is the correct way to place them according to Buddhist belief. Thank you.

In Parinata Cakra Sutra, there is a blessing mantra which we can recite 7 times in order to multiply our merit ten million times. Where can I find this sutra? I haven't been able to find any source online

The mantra that you are refering to is known as the ‘Multiplying Mantra’. It is recited at the beginning of all sadhanas and pujas here in Kechara. It is a very common mantra:

OM MARA MARA VIMANA SARA MAHA JAVA HUNG (7x)

Unfortunately, we do not have a copy of the translation of this particular sutra in English. I’m not sure if the entire sutra has actually been translated or not. Sorry I could not be of more help. Thank you.

Dear Gigi,

Of course. You can engage in any of the purification practices, even if you are not “technically” a Buddhist as you have not taken Refuge. Actually, even for the formal ceremony of Refuge, it’s not the ceremony itself that makes you a Buddhist, but taking Refuge from your heart that matters.

You did a article on Yumar Gyalchen who is an emanation of Kache Marpo. In that article it stated that H.E. the 1st Panglung Tulku chose Yumar Gyalchen to be the protector of the Panglung Oracle lineage and his residence which is today located at Kechara Forest Retreat.

It is with great sadness that I must report that the current 4th Panglung Tulku past away on August 19, 2022 in Germany. Please pray for his swift return.

My question is, since Yumar Gyalchen is an emanation of Kache Marpo who is considered to be both a Yidam and Dharmapala can we look at Yumar Gyalchen as both a Yidam and a Dharmapala?

Yes, we are aware that His Eminence Panglung Tulku entered clear light last year. We have done prayers for his swift return.

In regards to Yumar Gyalchen/Kache Marpo, they are not Yidams but Dharma Protectors. They are emanations of the Yidam Hayagriva in the form of Protectors. Hence they are practiced as Dharma Protectors, although their natures are enlightened. Hayagriva himself is practiced as a Yidam. I hope that helps. Thank you.

It is a very beautiful prayer! Unfortunately, I do not know the prayer. It seems like a prayer from either the Kagyu or Nyingma traditions, so am not familiar with it. However, it is a general and beautiful prayer to Chenrezig, so it is perfectly fine to listen to. In fact, it will plant the seeds of Chenrezig in your mind every time you do listen to it. Hello, I have a few questions. Are Buddhas all-powerful in the context of Abrahamic religions or are Buddhas "all-powerful" in a unique way? How can I make protector rice without someone taking trance of a protector? Who are Chandraprabha and Suryaprabha and what are their mantras?

Dear Anonymous,

Buddhas are not “all-powerful” as in the context of Abrahamic religions. In the Buddhist context such “all-powerful” beings do not exist.

Protector Rice cannot be made by any other means apart from a Protector taking trance to bless the rice. However, you can bless normal rice by reciting mantra and blowing the energy of the mantra on the rice. However, this is not the same as protector rice, and the use of such rice is different than protector rice. Blessing rice by blowing mantras is usually done in a retreat setting. The rice is then sprinkled on land, to help bless the land.

Chandraprabha and Suryaprabha are two of the attendants of Medicine Buddha. They are said to be brothers and are both Bodhisattvas. As far as practice within the Tibetan Tradition is concerned, they do not have their own mantras. When you pray to Medicine Buddha, as his attendants, they come to help you as you have already called upon Medicine Buddha for his help.

Hello dear Pastor!
I recently read a book the “Dao” and the book mentions that even the stage of nirvana is not a permanent stage. Souls that get pure and ultimately reach nirvana also have to come back to the world and the souls that live in the world will ultimately reach nirvana and this cycle goes on forever . According to that book, this is how Dao sustains itself.
My question is, isn’t this belief in contradiction to the buddisht understanding of nirvana which is supposed to be a permanent liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth?

Thanks for your question. Daoism is not the same as Buddhism, they are two distinct religious systems. Just like, for example, Chritianity and Buddhism are two distinct religions. Some terminology in English may be the same due to ease of translation, however they are two very different religious systems with different beliefs, practices, etc. So yes, that belief does contradict Buddhist belief, as in Buddhist belief nirvana is the highest state that is permanent. Dear, Pastors. Thank you for your kindness for answering this question. I have come across a website here that says this.

"Since Lam-rim Chen-mo and Bodhicaryavatara explain that a non-bodhisattva getting angry with a bodhisattva for one second destroys one thousand eons of merits, you would think that giving rise to heresy or anger toward the guru would destroy much more merit than that. Many hundreds of thousands of eons of merit should be destroyed, and realizations should be delayed and sufferings experienced in the hell realm for many hundreds of thousands of eons. That point is one to be analyzed.

However, it is very heavy negative karma for a non-bodhisattva to get angry with a bodhisattva for even one second."

In the far past, due to my ignorance, I have gotten angry with the wonderful Bodhisattva Guan Yin. I want to repent for it. Is it too late for me?

Hello Gale,

Yes, what you have quoted is indeed correct. As you have said, you have gotten angry at the Bodhisattva Guan Yin, known as Chenrezig in Tibetan Buddhism. According to the teachings, yes, you would have destroyed merits due to this. However, Buddhism is not a fatalistic religion. You can build up those merits again through your practice, whether formal practices such as pujas and prayers, or by engaging in the actually teachings, transforming your mind and becoming a better person. Is Chenrezig going to be angry with you? Of course not. Chenrezig has not anger whatsoever and is only full of love and compassion towards you. So even in the past if you have been angry at Chenrezig, for whatever reason, Chenrezig will forgive you and still bless you and help to increase your merits. As long as you feel remorse for your actions and also fix what you have done, by transforming your mind for the better. A formal way of doing this is using the Four Opponent Powers in relation to a purification practice. But even just going in front of your Chenrezig statue, feeling remorse and apologising is still very good because it is from your heart.

Dear Clea,

Green Tara is not a spirit, she is a fully enlightened being. As such, there is no way that she can be angry with you because she has absolutely no anger. All she has is compassion and love for you and all other sentient beings. When you call Green Tara she will only bless you and those around you.

Is it good to do shize’s sadhana on behalf of someone who is very angry and resentful towards parents/family members. Disheartened to see disharmony in the family. According to Hindu astrology this person has Ketu in 2nd house and ketu is meant to be cause separation where it resides. The said person exhibits such signs, i.e, disconnect and lack of regard for parents. Also harsh and cutting speech because apparently 2nd house also resembles speech..

Dear Ony,

Yes Shize practice would be good to dedicate to him. However, it would of course be better for the person himself to do the practice. But I understand that this may not be possible at this point. Green Tara is also another very effective practice for solving disharmony within the family, and disharmony with others in general. His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche often advised Green Tara practice and pujas for familial disharmony.

However, doing the practices/pujas by themselves will not provide a miracle solution to the problem. Both the son and family members must remember that they are a family and love each other. That way, they energies of the practices/pujas will work quicker to resolve the issues. If you are close to this person, then it would be very good if you can help him to figure out why he is acting like this and help him move past it, so there is harmony again. Pujas/practices create the conditions for things to happen, but we also need to put in effort to solve the issues ourselves. The practices/pujas help us to achieve our goals quicker. So after doing such practices, if even only a little amount of effort is put in to restoring harmony, our efforts will be very effectice. I hope this explanation helps.

This explanation accords to the Tibet Buddhist understanding of the terms:

A Buddha is a completely Enlightened being, meaning they are no longer bound by samsara. They have completely overcome what are known as the two obsuractions – emotional obscurations and cognitive obscurations.

An Arhat is a liberated being, meaning they are no longer bound by samsara. However they have not compeltely overcome all of their obscurations yet. There are said to be two levels of Arhats – Pratyekaya Buddha and Shravaka.

A Bodhisattva is a practitioner on the Mahayana path who has ignited Bodhicitta in their minds. There are 10 main levels of a Bodhisattva, at the end of which they attain Buddhahood. Bodhisattvas ‘bypass’ the level of the Arhat on their journey to complete enlightenment.

Both Arhats and Bodhisattvas still need to practice in some way, as they are not full enlightened yet.

So Buddhahood is the ultimate. Arhats and Bodhisattvas are practitioners on the way there but are far, far, far more advanced then normal people. In fact, the state of an Arhat is outside of the bounds of samsara itself.

The difference between the path of the Arhats and the path of the Bodhisattvas can generally be said to be different in terms of time and practice. The Bodhisattva path is said to be quicker towards enlightenment. Also in terms of practice, the path of the Arhats stressed abandoning or causing afflictive emotions to cease, whereas the Bodhisattva path is about the purification of afflictive emotions.

There are many other differences and ways of explaining it as well, but too much to do here in this short space. You can read the Lamrim teachings, which talk about this in detail. I hope this helps. Thank you.

Hello and I hope you're having a nice day so far. I have a few questions: ● I was reading volume one of Lamrim Chenmo and I was extremely stuck on chapter 6. I was conpletely lost. Everything from the terminology and the eording were all just confusing to me. I hope you can explain the chapter. ● What is stablization meditation and analytical meditation? ● Is our karma stronger than the Buddhas? Because I heard that Buddhas cannot save us ● I hear from some Theravadins that Mahayana is a perverted/mistakened path of Buddhism. They old this opinion stringly especially towards Vajrayana because how come the Buddha taught about "divine pride," "divine lust," and so on. Being that they are the oldest school of Buddhism, are they right or wrong?

Let me see how I can help:

1. In regards to Chapter 6 of the Lamrim Chenmo. This chapter is to clarifies misconceptions about what meditation is and it’s purpose and uses. It’s too much to go into here as it is very philosophical and goes into a lot of detail. Lama Tsongkhapa’s Lamrim Chenmo presupposes that the person who is reading it has a foundational level of knowledge in monastic education, which would already have covered some of what he is talking about. Hence, the text, and the English translation of the text can get very confusing for more people these days who do not have that foundation. That why, for modern lay people, is advisable to study a shorter Lamrim text first, so you can familiarise yourself with the concepts first, before moving on to Lama Tsongkhapa’s Lamrim Chenmo. Here at Kechara we use Pabongka Rinpoche’s Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand to study the Lamrim (https://www.vajrasecrets.com/lamrim-liberation-in-the-palm-of-your-hand). We do not public study the Lamrim Chenmo in Kechara, as it is simply to long and philisophical with very detailed points for most people.

2. Stabilisation meditation is Single-Pointed Concentration meditation, where you build up your focus/concentration sole on one thing without distraction. Analytical meditation is when you contemplate on a topic from many different angles. They are two distinct forms of meditation but must be used together. This is explained in the Lamrim teachings. Again, using a short/simpler text will be better to understand this.

3. Karma is not “stronger” than the Buddhas. The Buddhas cannot take us to enlightenment directly, we need to apply our own effort, but they can and do help us on the way there. Please scroll down on this page to see my reply to the question asked by Jerry.

4. There are differences in opinion that some practitioners of all schools have of other schools. From our Gelug tradition, as long as the teachings you are practising can be traced all the way to the Buddha, without a single break, then that teaching is authentic. For example, this is one of the reasons that Lama Tsongkhapa quotes so much from the legitimate Sutras in his Lamrim Chenmo. He is showing that what he is writing about comes from the Buddha. All Lamrim teachings start with the teachings that we share in common with the Theravada tradition. Then they move on to how the Buddha also taught the Mahayana and Vajrayana. Even within the Mahayana and Vajrayana, if they cannot be traced back to the Buddha, they are not considered legitimate. Within Tibetan Buddhism, all the teachings from the Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana align with each other. For example, all Vajrayana teachings are based on the Mahayana, and Mahayana is actually based on the Theravada. However, due to how the path of practise is presented in Vajrayana, and the prevalence of mistaken information out there about the path of practise and the terminology used, some people do not think it is Buddhist practice. However, that is simply because they do not understand what it really is and that it is 100% Buddhist in nature. Just for your information, there is such a thing as Divine Pride in Vajrayana, but there is no such thing as divine lust. In fact, this is the first time I have ever heard of something like that.

I hope all of this does help. Please do read Pabongka Rinpoche’s Lamrim text, it will provide you with a greater foundation to read and understand Lama Tsongkhapa’s Lamrim Chenmo if that is something you would still like to do. Thank you.

hi pastor. I like to listen to buddha chants when I am doing household chores. but they are making me feel very anxiety and fear. I feel like I shouldn't be listening to holy chants while doing ordinary house work like hanging clothes. I feel like buddhas would punish me. how to get rid of this anxiety? pls help 😭😭

Dear Ama,

Listening to Buddhist chants will never lead to any form of harm or punishment. The Buddhas by definition are all-compassionate and loving, they will never harm you for listening to the mantras (as long as there are no restrictions to the mantras). As long as you are listening to mantras that are common available, then there is no problem at all. Some mantras do however need initiation to recite/listen to. But in your case this shouldn’t be a problem.

In fact, every time you listen to the mantras, it is planting seeds of enlightenment in your mind. So if you are planting the seeds of enlightenment in your mind, how can the Buddhas ever punish you. First, they will neven punish you and second, it’s actually a good thing to listen to mantras when we can. It makes our ordinary actions, daily chores, into something beneficial for our spirituality.

When Chia first met Tsem Rinpoche, he was asked if he wanted to become a monk, however even though this was his aspiration he informed Tsem Rinpoche that he would do so at a later date. For Chia, as he has is already in the Dharma full-time, it would be best if he became ordained. Tsem Rinpoche has reminded Chia from time to time to work towards becoming a monk and he promised that he would do so in the future.

Kechara began from nothing to become a growing Dharma organisation with major projects such as Kechara Forest Retreat, so Chia thinks that this is the perfect time to become ordained as a monk. Recently Tsem Rinpoche asked Chia again if he would like to be ordained, this time Chia said yes.

Pastor Khong Jean Ai (sangha to be)

Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings.

Jean Ai met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche as a young child and through her parents' involvement with Kechara over the years, she has never known a life without His Eminence. Jean Ai was a regular volunteer of Tsem Ladrang during her childhood and teenage years. After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Warwick in the UK and working at the London Probation Service, she returned to Kuala Lumpur to join Tsem Ladrang's e-division. There she managed kechara.com, responsible for the weekly Kechara e-newsletter, including content generation and editing. Since then she has joined His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s writing team, responsible for executing Rinpoche’s personal instructions and managing his correspondence.

Having visited a nunnery in India in 2004, Jean Ai remembers noticing how happy and purposeful everyone was. She had a feeling of familiarity and the sight of the robes comforted her. Immediately, Jean Ai messaged her mother who told her to ask Rinpoche’s advice. Rinpoche told her to complete her secular education so that when she taught the Dharma her words would carry the credibility and weight of a university degree, something she completed with the motivation that some day she wanted to become a nun.

Through her ordination as a nun, Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings. Through this she hopes to repay the kindness of her parents and her Guru. Above all she wants to abide in a state free of suffering, and she wants this for others as well.

Pastor Shin Tan (sangha to be)

For Shin, this is a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Before joining Kechara, Shin worked as a lecturer and provider of content and e-learning content solutions for various start-ups. Whilst providing training to educators teaching students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at various colleges, she was invited to attend a Dharma talk given by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at Kechara House. This event rekindled her interest in Tibetan Buddhism, as she recalled the joy of accompanying her parents to teachings as a teenager.

Joining Kechara Media & Publications in 2006 as a volunteer, Shin assumed a full time position there as a Marketing Executive, with the aim of making His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings available to more people around the world. Shin is now a member of the Tsem Ladrang Team, who takes care of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s secular matters, enabling Rinpoche to focus on teaching the holy Dharma.

Shin states that when she decided to join Kechara full time, she had already decided to be of some benefit to others and spend the rest of her life doing only that. Working closely with His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, seeing his tireless effort in helping others and spreading the Buddhadharma through the Gaden tradition despite tremendous challenges has made her realise that the next logical step is to become ordained as she has the opportune conditions to study with her Guru. For Shin this is also a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Pastor Adeline Woon (sangha to be)

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission and wishes to dedicate herself fully towards the benefit of others.

Adeline stumbled across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche's blog towards the end of 2010 and has been following his blog and Facebook page ever since. Since graduating from Dharma Drum Buddhist College Taiwan with a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies in July 2012, she returned to Malaysia and joined Kechara as a Senior Education Executive. Adeline was attracted by His Eminence’s straightforwardness and impressed at Kechara's growth under his guidance. To Adeline, His Eminence is someone who walks the talk, keeps his promises and sincerely cares for others displaying an excellent example of guru devotion, qualities that she seeks to develop herself.

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission. It was in May 2013 that she officially requested His Eminence for ordination as a nun to dedicate her life fully for the dharma. According to Adeline, become ordained means that she is being true to her calling to live according to the dharma and be of benefit to others.

This however can only be achieved by meeting and studying under her root Guru. Adeline has been fortunate enough to have met with hers - His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.

Pastor Niral Patel (sangha to be)

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Niral was born and raised in the UK, having graduated with a BA in Anthropology, he was working as a Financial Administrator for a Serviced Apartment & Hotel company as well as a Management Services company before stumbling across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s Youtube channel, entirelyby accident. It was through His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings that he began to understand the importance of practicing the Dharma, in order to benefit himself and others around him.

Having been in contact with one of Tsem Rinpoche’s long time students in the UK, he was encouraged to visit Kechara in late 2012 for a 10 day visit. At the end of the visit Tsem Rinpoche requested Niral to come to work at Kechara, to which he agreed.

Niral moved to Malaysia in February 2013 to work as an education coordinator at Kechara House, assisting the Education Division in the creation and implementation of the new education syllabus, teaching teenagers during the Kechara Sunday Dharma School. Ever since meeting Tsem Rinpoche, he has always been encouraged by Tsem Rinpoche to do more Dharma work and strive to better himself. It is with that in mind, that Niral has requested monastic ordination.

Pastor Tan Gim Lee (sangha to be)

Gim Lee’s main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara’s doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche’s kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa’s holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

She discovered Kechara by chance in 2006 and started to participate Kechara's activities almost immediately especially the retreat to collect 10 million Migtsema recitations. In April 2006, when Gim Lee met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and first listened to his teachings, she wept uncontrollably. Though she could not understand it at the time, she had finally found her perfect teacher. She is especially touched by Tsem Rinpoche's compassionate method of teaching by setting his own examples.

Having joined as a staff of Kechara House responsible for housekeeping in 2009, Gim Lee is now one of Kechara House's Front Desk Managers predominantly based in the retreat centre in Bentong, Pahang. She also teaches the Sunday Dharma Class and moderates Dharma discussions on Tsem Rinpoche's blog chat.

The many teachings she has received from Tsem Rinpoche have changed her priorities in life. She found answers to her questions about the purpose of life, and she has realised that the way to overcome the sufferings of pain and anger is by following the path of compassion and wisdom as taught by Lord Buddha. These realisations have led to her request to be ordained as a Sangha member.

As pastor now, and later as a Buddhist nun, Gim Lee's main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara's doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche's kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa's holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

Pastor Loh Seng Piow (sangha to be)

Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Back in 2001, Loh Seng Piow had no inkling of just how involved in Dharma he would become. As a Masters degree-holder in Engineering, Loh Seng Piow was working as a research engineer in Singapore when he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s talk left a strong impression on him and after a few encounters with Rinpoche, Loh Seng Piow started developing websites for Rinpoche and Kechara.

Loh Seng Piow was trained in science, but soon realised that there were many questions that science could not answer. At the same time, he also felt that science and technology are not the solution to human problems, as humans are much better off compared to thousands years ago, yet the problems in this world are still the same, if not more, and we do not seem to be happier than our ancestors.

Loh Seng Piow soon realised that the Dharma is the ultimate solution to human problems, and that the methods used by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche are very suitable for this modern era. Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Meeting Rinpoche was a very refreshing experience for Loh Seng Piow, as he never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. As Rinpoche’s personal attendant, Loh Seng Piow has had many incredible moments with Rinpoche and considers himself extremely fortunate because he sees real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. It challenges him to practice Dharma 24/7. In this way, Rinpoche has blown away his old and persistent way of thinking, which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Having seen that Tsem Rinpoche truly embodies what he teaches, Loh Seng Piow is convinced beyond doubt that it is possible to develop our minds to a higher state, and ultimately achieving enlightenment. All these factors have propelled Loh Seng Piow to take a step further in his Dharma career to become ordained as a pastor in order to be even more effective in sharing and disseminating the Dharma to benefit others.

Pastor Yek Yee

Naturally an introvert, Yek Yee has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

Independence was forced upon Kok Yek Yee from the tender age of nine, when she had to juggle between work and school to make ends meet. Always the introvert, Yek Yee had few friends and had difficulty expressing herself. So it was unexpected when she chose a career in journalism.

Yek Yee excelled as an award-winning reporter with Guang Ming Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau. Her articles garnered her a fanbase, and in writing, she found an outlet for the thoughts and feelings that she could not verbalise. However, despite her success, Yek Yee was not satisfied. Temporary happiness was not what she was looking for – success, money, relationships, or fame was not the key.

In her search for happiness, Yek Yee met H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, who told her “don’t retaliate with your speech, but use your power of writing to express yourself”. This led her to join Kechara Media & Publications as a writer; subsequently she was appointed Senior Editor as well as a Liaison to His Eminence.

Yek Yee now holds a core role in Kechara Care, giving advice, tours, counseling and teachings to whoever walks through their doors. Through courage and determination, she has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

As a Pastor, her patience and open-mindedness developed through her journey with Kechara will bring comfort and solace, and her new-found ability to nurture and teach others will bring hope to many.

Pastor Lanse Chiah

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Lanse graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China in 1999 and became a part-time lecturer for several years, teaching western medicine in a Traditional Chinese medical college in Kuala Lumpur.

For a long time, Lanse remained an atheist, subconsciously searching for a spiritual guru as she sought answers to questions she harboured in her mind, questions that had led her into a state of depression during her time at university. As such, she would often read philosophical books in her search for answers.

Lanse first came to know of Kechara in 2007, through her friend of over 10 years, Pastor Yek Yee. She was surprised to see a complete transformation in Pastor Yek Yee, whom she had always known as a non-spiritual person. The first book by Kechara that Lanse chanced upon was the Chinese version of Be Greedy. Naturally, Lanse was skeptical at first, thus she read the book in an attempt to find mistakes with the philosophy. However, she couldn’t find any and was left impressed by how logical the explanations in the book were.

In March 2009, Lanse joined Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) part-time to carry out Chinese translation and help with transcription. The following year, she contemplated upon whether to pursue a full-time medical or a Dharma career, finally deciding on the latter. Lanse came to realise that, although both careers share the same motivation of easing people’s sufferings, she felt that her work in Dharma could lead to a greater contribution for the sake of all sentient beings in a deeper, spiritual sense.

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Pastor Han Nee

It was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

Lim Han Nee, a mother of two, is a retired secondary school principal. She retired in December 2000 after a 30-year career in education. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education at Leicester University in the UK, at the end of 2001.

After gaining her master’s degree, Han Nee considered further options of embarking on a doctorate in education or spending her years in retirement, travelling and visiting family. At the same time, she was also in search of her spiritual path. She had begun exploring Theravadan and Chinese Mahayana Buddhism for answers to questions she had.

In December 2004, Han Nee attended a teaching retreat on the topic of the Lamrim and White Tara held by His Eminence Gelek Rinpoche. As the retreat proceeded, she found her questions were being answered. Then in June 2005, Han Nee was introduced to Kechara by her sister, where she met her spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who has recently told her that she must go all the way in the Dharma for the benefit of others.

Han Nee had been a school guidance counsellor for nearly twenty years. However, it was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

A member of Kechara’s Puja Team, who conduct sponsored pujas in Shabten Khang, Han Nee is also a member of the Education Division with the portfolio of Content Development. Apart from this, Han Nee is also a member of the weekly Kechara Chat Time team.

Pastor David Lai

In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

David Lai has been a student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche for over a decade now and was one of the founding members of Kechara. He joined Kechara as a full time staff in 2005 and has been working in various departments beginning with the Kechara Paradise outlets.

Right from the beginning, David had been advised by His Eminence to go into writing. Overcoming various hurdles, David finally began his literary career with the publication of his first book and autobiography, There’s No Way But Up in 2009. The book charts his spiritual journey from his childhood and culminates in the meeting with His Eminence.

The positive feedback from this book led him to write various other publications like Vajrayogini and Other Power Places in Nepal – a pilgrim’s guide of Nepal, Tales My Lama Told Me – a book on short stories and Conversations in Love – a book on relationships. These books continue to inspire and bring people onto the Dharma.

Besides writing, David has found his passion in sharing the Dharma since his earlier days working in the Kechara Paradise outlets. Over the years, David has received innumerable teachings from His Eminence, ranging from public teachings to personal instructions and advice. He is known to passionately share these teachings whenever he can and to whomever he meets. In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

Pastor Henry Ooi

Born in 1952 in Penang, Henry moved to Kuala Lumpur in search of work after he finished his Form Five studies in 1969. He worked at different types of jobs and it was when he was jobless in 1997/8 that he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at the house of his cousin, Ruby (now Dato’ Ruby Khong), when Rinpoche was giving a dharma teaching. At that teaching Henry was awed by how Rinpoche taught Dharma with simple yet profound explanations.

With the kind guidance, teachings and Dharma practices by Rinpoche including instruction to engage in their first spiritual retreat, Henry and his wife Angel started a small business that soon became profitable. A few years later after Kechara House Buddhist Association was founded, Rinpoche started to enrol students as liaisons and that was when Henry and Dato’ Ruby offered themselves. Later more students were elected as liaisons that saw the birth of Liaisons Council. The Liaisons Council is now known as the Board of Directors of which Henry is one of its members.

Currently Henry is the Project Director, overseeing the construction and completion of projects in the Kechara Forest Retreat. Prior to this appointment he was the Head of Department in Kechara Paradise retail outlets of which he served for about ten years. He still remains as its company director as well as director for most of the companies within Kechara. He served one term as vice president of Kechara House Buddhist Association from 2012 to 2103.

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public. As he aspires to be a monk as he grows older, being a pastor of Kechara will pave the way for his aspiration. Henry believes that as one gets older in life, one should have already prepared for the imminent, death. And what a beautiful death it will be, to die in Kechara Forest Retreat in a monk’s robes. This is the kind of death that Henry wants. But before the imminent death happens, Henry wants to continue working in Kechara Forest Retreat, serving the community and whoever comes into it in whatever way he can. And when he is not physically anymore to serve others, he will request instructions from Rinpoche to enter into retreats in Kechara Forest Retreat.

Pastor Patsy Gooi

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work, dharma practices and being of benefit to others.

Formerly a full time housewife with plenty of free time, Patsy had the great fortune to visit Gaden Monastery and meet H.E. Tsem Rinpoche almost twenty years ago. That one week stay in the monastery changed her view of life. Prior to that, she had no spiritual inclinations but meeting Rinpoche stirred something inside her, and she realised that there was more to life than just eating, sleeping, shopping and having fun. Rinpoche’s approach to dharma was logical and practical but most importantly, he stressed that we should always focus out and work towards benefitting others. Rinpoche made dharma easy to understand and his advice was and still is, to “change inwardly, not outwardly.”

In 2009, after years of practicing and applying what she had learned from Rinpoche’s teachings, Patsy decided to set up a Kechara retail outlet in Penang to share the dharma with others. She knew that Rinpoche’s teachings were very applicable to the people of our time and that his activities would benefit others just as they had benefited her. She also wanted to repay the kindness of her Guru who had constantly helped and guided her. Today, Kechara Paradise Penang is not just a dharma shop but also organises puja sessions, animal liberation and dharma talks.

In 2010, again with Rinpoche’s blessings, Patsy set up the Kechara Soup Kitchen Activity Center in Penang. Saddened to see the plight of the homeless and urban poor on the streets, Patsy decided to practice “compassion through action” as taught by Rinpoche in the most active way she knows. Today, together with her team of volunteers, Patsy feeds the homeless and urban poor four times a week and provides basic food provisions to many hardcore poor families on a monthly basis.

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work and dharma practices, and that she may be of benefit to others.

Pastor Albert Ratchaga

In 2008, Albert Ratchaga began working as a part timer in Kechara Paradise, but as he learned more about the works of Rinpoche and Kechara, Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion touched him deeply. He realised that his work gave his life more meaning and decided to join Kechara full time.

Through his work as a sales executive, Albert was able learn more Dharma from Rinpoche's teachings and use this wisdom to assist those who entered his store to overcome their problems, thus improving their lives.

Albert soon developed a deep wish to follow in Rinpoche’s footsteps and in 2016 was ordained as a Pastor to continue benefitting and serving others.

Thank you Rinpoche and Beatrice Ooi for this sharing and explaining the details of incense. Within Tibetan Buddhism, incense has traditionally been used as an offering to the Three Jewels for centuries, so as in other Buddhist traditions. Within ritual, incense is also used to purify offering substances such as water, food and light. We offer incense as an expression of our gratitude and reverence for the Buddha’s great compassion. The practice of burning incense sticks has a dual purpose, purifying and cleansing the energy of a space. It is said that the fragrant eliminating negative impurities and creating a positive environment. In many religious practices, burning incense is believed to deepen our attention and empower our spiritual focus. The aroma of incense can help us to tap in our spiritual connections. It calms the environment and our mind, cleansing the space for inner and outer journeys. Great article.

Revisit this blog again …….very useful information for us to know where and how our incense powder make of. Reading this blog and coming to understand better of herbs name which I haven’t heard before. Smoke cleansing is a practice performed by various cultures, religions, and faiths around the world. A ritual steeped in history, smoke cleansing involves the burning of various herbs, resins, wood powders, and essential oils for health or spiritual purposes.
Its good to know many of plants rather herbs have many benefits and very useful in curing diseases and clearing negative energy in an environment. Herbs and incense when burned will brings fresh, fantastic energy at home. Its effects are truly fantastic in purification rituals as well. The different types of herbs, and other ingredients are used, which is based upon that which is regionally, culturally, spiritually, or historically significant.

Interesting how an offering of incense had saved lives. Even its an old post, reading it with joy how this little act of incense offering had saved Tsem Rinpoche students. Rinpoche normally has his students makes prayers but on that day Rinpoche led everyone travelling down to Kuala Lumpur to make an offering of incense. Rinpoche usually recites the prayer once or twice to clear obstacles. Somehow it was different on that day, Rinpoche recited the prayer seven times, and then proceeded to ask Dorje Shugden to remove any obstacles quickly and effective and to protect his students. Then it happened,a car crash on the way Rinpoche and students walk out safely without serious injuries. The power of Dorje Shugden that Rinpoche had invoked before the journey. The invoking of Dorje Shugden’s energies, an offering of incense saved the lives of those in the car. That’s amazing.

The Kawang is a powerful confessional prayer that purifies negative karma that has accumulated from countless previous lifetimes. Well with the correct visualisation, consistently and sincerely during prayers we can purify a tremendous amount of negative karma that will create the obstacles in our lives. I have included these prayers in my daily Sadhana ever since I came to know the many benefits of it. Well explanation and details wrote.

We must learn, practice Dharma and accept all circumstances that arise during our practice. We must change and practice more to transform our mind , taking the sufferings of others rather than ourselves.

Interesting read of a wolf-like creature reported to have been witnessed in or near Elkhorn, Walworth County, Wisconsin. The creature has become a part of Wisconsin folklore since discovery. It has been the subject of multiple books, documentaries, and even horror film. Though Beast was likely inspired by just story and it is not based on the real-life events. Well the first reported sighting of these creature had the people name as the Beast of Bray Road. Sightings became prevalent in those days and it had particularly centralized around Elkhorn. The first sighting was in 1930’s interesting with some claiming it looks wolf like creatures. Whether the Beast of Bray Road truly exists, despite numerous sightings. No one can say but one brave investigator after investigating said its true it do exist.

According to legend, the Flatwoods Monster, also known as the green monster while others name it as the Phantom of Flatwoods. The Flatwoods monster, in West Virginia folklore, is a creature reported to have been sighted in the town of Flatwoods in West Virginia. The Monster was said by some as about 12 feet tall with a head shaped like the ace of spades having glowing reddish and green in colour. People in the nearby community of Flatwoods had an unusual experience that was burned forever into their mind. Residents had witnessed this phenomenon and discovered a hideous monstrosity with fiery red eyes and ran for their lives. Repulsed and fascinated by the Green Monster the town of Flatwoods has embraced the folktale. Today, the Flatwoods Monster is considered the second most popular monster in West Virginia.The legend of the Flatwoods monster has inspired media beyond.

Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen a great scholar, yogi and master of Sutra and Tantra previous lives of Dorje Shugden. He arose as a Dharma Protector to protect the precious teachings of his teacher Lama Tsongkhapa. As he had made the promise to his teacher Lama Tsongkhapa thus laying the foundation for Dorje Shugden to manifest later, in another incarnation. Interesting indeed. In recognition of his pure monkhood and incredible knowledge and understanding of the Vinaya texts he was given the name Duldzin for holding the Vinaya vows so well. Because of that many considered him equal to Lama Tsongkhapa in terms of attainments. He became a great treasury of scriptural knowledge on both Sutra and Tantra as well as an ocean of realised qualities. Wow….. he exuded a beautiful scent because of his qualities. Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen left a legacies having produced great disciples and monasteries he founded. He composed a number of important works on the Vinaya , composed sadhanas for mandala rituals and commentaries, consecration rites and so forth. His best known legacy is the construction of Gaden Monastery, which continues to exist to this day.

Great idea now we can download and print high-resolution images of the Enlightened Beings and Buddhas absolutely free. Those days its difficult to get it with modern technology its possible printing out and we can put beautiful Buddha images on our altar. Looking at those images is a blessing indeed awesome.

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist monk, an influential teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Been a man of great wisdom was respected and loved in his own country Thailand. He was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West and a revered monk whose life and teachings continue to this day. He was undoubtedly one of the most revered Buddhist teachers in the modern era. His teachings were rooted in direct experience and presented in simple language. He was an exemplary teacher who inspired deep confidence and enthusiasm amongst his followers who came from around the world. Ajahn Chah remained bedridden until his death at the age of 73. Interesting biography of a great teacher.

DUKKAR (SITATAPATRA) or White Parasol is known for her powers to protect against sorcery, spirit harm, evil spells,malicious intents and so forth. She is white in colour because the principal means by which she accomplishes protection is the enlightened energy of pacification. She is a form of Tara and is well recognized throughout Tibet, India ,Nepal and the Himalayan region. Whoever practices her mantra will gain protection against supernatural danger and witchcraft.

The possibility of extraterrestrial life has always fascinated humans and we’ve been searching for alien life for some time now.No extraterrestrial life has yet been conclusively detected. We always wondered if there is life beyond Earth in space. With all of the countless billions of stars and possible planets and moons in space, we do think that under the right conditions, life can exist elsewhere in space. However, there is no evidence for this. Extraterrestrial life has never been discovered, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I do believe of their existence. Only a small fraction of our galaxy has been studied and the question of whether aliens exist is something scientists have been trying to understand, explore and figure out for a long time. Despite decades of peering at and listening to planets around other stars, scientist still don’t have a concrete answer to the question of whether we are alone in the universe. Scientists are have been using new methods to reveal that we’re not alone in the universe and that alien life must be out there.
Reading this interesting blog will definitely opened our eyes as one day we could possible see them , rather than just listening their voice . Since in a few occasion they the aliens have made communication contact with human.

The Karmapa heads the 900 years old Karma Kagyu sect, popularly called the Black Hat sect of the Tibetan Buddhism. The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, is the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, a Buddhist school in Tibet. The Karma Kagyu lineage is the most influential of the Tibetan Buddhist lineages outside Tibet studied and practiced all around the world. The teachings of the Kagyu lineage have been passed down for nearly a thousand years within Tibet. As one of Tibetan Buddhism’s four main lineages, the Kagyu School is especially known for its profound meditative practices, its tradition of strict retreat, and the countless awakened individuals it has produced. The teachings of the Kagyu lineage stretch back to ancient India, having a long history behind it.
H E Lodreu Rabsel Rinpoche, a Karma Kagyu Lama, recently sent an open letter to HH Dalai Lama on behalf of the thousands or millions of Kagyu practitioners. This letter mentioned various points of aggressive pressure and assaults, threatening, and discrimination attributed to supporters of H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama. Finally one courage Lama speaking up how practitioners have been suffering all these while. He is the only high-ranking Tibetan Lama formally recognised both by Dalai Lama and the Chinese.
Well it seem that other Tibetan religious groups also experiencing religious discrimination ,having many similarities to the Gelup lineage. Lodreu Rabsel Rinpoche has dedicated his life to the preservation of the Karma Kagyu lineage. Lodreu Rabsel Rinpoche highlighted the lack of religious freedom among the Tibetan people due to the persistent interference of their Tibetan leadership. Due to the Tibetan leadership the Karma Kagyu split so as in the Gelup lineage sufferings to the practitioners. In time to come hopefully it will resolve the disputes for the sake of Dharma.

pastor answered: Dear Nana, You can find a very comprehensive article explaining all about Kalarupa here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/kalarupa.html The article includes a short praise and the mantra which you can incorporate into your daily practice if you would like. In regards to where to insert the praise and mantra, if you are practising our Diamond Path sadhana, you can insert it after finishing the Gaden Lhagyama Guru Yoga, before the Invocation to the Dorje Shugden. Alternatively, you can insert after the Dorje Shugden prayers section before the Completion Dedication. If you are practising other prayers, then you can insert after you have compelted any Guru Yoga and Yidam practices, before you start any other Dharma Protector practices. Alternatively, you can insert after any other Dharma Protector practices before any additional dedication verses. This all depends on which sadhana texts that you are using. I hope this help. pastor answered: Dear James, Usually blessed pills are either consumed directly, used for statue or stupa insertion or kept on the altar. As you said they can also be used to make blessed water which we can drink. As for the blessing of lakes and other bodies of waters these are usually done through pujas. However, as you are probably not trained in such pujas, it would be acceptable to place some blessing pills into the water to bless the environment and beings there in. But you must have a very good motivation when doing so. Think that you are helping the beings by blessing them through the power and energy of the pills. Take refuge first and then at the end make a strong dedication. If you do this, then it is fine. And on another note, it's very good to read that you are thinking of the other sentient beings. It is extremely beneficial to think about others on the spiritual path. Thank you.

pastor answered: Dear Jimmy, The Mindrolling tradition is a very authentic and powerful lineage, as are others in the Tibetan tradition. In fact, Tsem Rinpoche used to tell use stories of previous Mindrolling Rinpoches to highlight their attainments, even though they are not Gelug lamas. If you have received blessed pills from that tradition, it is entirely up to you what to do with them. Actually, not all blessed pills are meant to be eaten, that depends on the type of pill that is actually is. You can still keep the rilbu, that is not a problem at all. You can either use it for statue or stupa insertion or simply keep on your altar. As they blessed. Alternatively, you can just keep them stored away nicely, and if you happen to meet a Nyingma pracitioner, you can offer it to them for their use. That way, they will benefit from the blessing of their lineage. I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you.

pastor answered: Dear Sunny, Even though Shangmo Dorje Putri is a being who is under the control of Kache Marpo, who himself is within the enoutrage of Dorje Shugden, she is an extremely powerful unenlightened spirit. We have provided information about her on this blog for information purposes only. We should not engage in the practice unless authorised to do so by a high lama who can explain the practice to you, including her mantra. This is because Shangmo Dorje Putri is an unenlightened Bamo spirit, who can cause great harm to those who are not qualified enough or authorised to interact with her. Sorry that we could not be of more help on this matter. Thank you.

pastor answered: Dear Gour, We are very happy to hear that you are practicing Dorje Shugden's mantras. Actually, it's not 100% necessary to have the oral transmission of the mantra to be able to practice Dorje Shugden. It can be practised by everyone. So you can rest assured that when practice Dorje Shugden you will still gain benefit. The empowerment of Dorje Shugden is quite rare, it is actually known as a life-entrustment initiation. This is because to receive this, you must have received the Vajra Bhairava initiation first, which itself requires quite a lot of groundwork, preparation, guru devotion etc. You can read more about the Dorje Shugden Life-Entrustment intiation here: https://www.dorjeshugden.org/blog/dorje-shugden-life-entrustment-initiation In regards to receiving a lung (oral transmission) online from a qualified lama of our tradition, as far as I am aware, our lamas have said that things like oral transmissions and intiaitions are not possible to do either through video call or online. pastor answered: Dear Chavonne, Thank you for your question. The word "tantra" and indeed the practices of tantra have definitely been corrupted in popular culture. People think it is just about, as you put it "sexual knowing and understanding of one's body" or physical acts with a partner. Tantra is actually a system of practice that leads to higher states of consciousness and ultimately enlightenment. The imagery used in tantra can be sexual in nature, but that doesn't means its all about physical copulation. There is a lot of meaning behind all imagery in tantra, not necessarily corresponding to what we perceive is happening in the imagery itself. Tsem Rinpoche has an old but very good teaching here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/tantra.html This is a very good introduction to what Tantra is in the Buddhist context. In regards to the link you sent, this is from someone teaching Kashmiri Shaivism, which is a branch of tantra in Hinduism, not Buddhism. But the person has used an image of a Buddhist deity on the page. From what I understand of that tradition and the description on the page, this person seems to know what they are talking about. pastor answered: Dear Khang, You can find both the Tibetan Phonetics and English translation of the praise to Dorje Shugden, composed by His Eminence Kyabje Dagpo Rinpoche on page 42-51 of the Diamond Path prayer book. It is included in the short version of the Daily Sadhana of Lama Tsongkhapa and Dorje Shugden. I hope this helps. Thank you.

pastor answered: Dear Lee Sun, Yes, there is a difference between Sang and Sur. Sang is offered to the Dharma Protectors and sometimes the Yidams (meditational deities). Most Sang prayers can be recited without initiation, etc. For example, the smoke offering to Dorje Shugden, available here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/incense-offering-to-dorje-shugden.html Anyone can engage in this Sang offering. The Sur offering, or more correctly the Tsa Sur offering is a smoke offering to the Three Jewels as well as those who have recently passed on and are in the bardo states. Such bardo beings are at the mercy of their karma, so the smoke offering is said to nourish them and alleviate some of their karma so they can take a good rebirth and not suffer as much. It’s a common practice among Tibetan Buddhists that this practice is performed during the 49 day period of a person’s passing to aid them on their journey to their next rebirth. The offering is made by burning various types of herb incense, tsampa (roasted barley flour), butter, and other ingredients. Other types of commonly available herb incense such as sandalwood, white sage, etc., can also be added to the mix before it is burned. The ability to make such an offering does not actually come from the smoke itself, but the practitioners ability to generate themselves as Chenresig or another type of tantric deity, usually belonging to the Kriya Tantra classification. As such in our tradition, this offering can only be performed by those with the appropriate initiation and practice conferred by a fully qualified tantric guru. Though there are many texts available nowadays elsewhere online, the method to actually make the offering should be taught directly from your guru, otherwise the offering won’t actually be effective. For that reason, we don't provide the Tsa Sur text publiclly here on this site or share information about the practice, as it is only taught by a guru once you have received the appropriate initiation. pastor answered: Dear Steven, If the top is only slightly loose, then by all means please try to fix back on yourself. If it cannot be fixed, please consult your Dharma centre, where you received the wealth vase from. The vases are highly consecrated during pujas, so if any part of the inside of the vase is damaged or the items inside, it needs to be handled carefully. Please remember that wealth vases should never be handled with your bare hand, always handle with a khata, gloves, etc. This is out of respect to the Dzambala, because he resides in a properly consecrated wealth vase. pastor answered: Dear Rojal, Thanks for your question. Nice to see you back here. Yes, you can have as many Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dharma Protectors as you wish. Some people like to keep many images, other people like to keep their altars more simple. It's entirely up to you. Traditionally speaking the Lamas and Buddhas would go in the centre, the Bodhisattvas and yidams on the left side, and Dharma protectors on the right side. But the arrangement is up to you. On the left side, you should have a Dharma text to represent the speech of the Buddha and on the right side, you should have a stupa, to represent the mind of the Buddha. That way you have the complete set of Body (image), Speech (Dharma text) and Mind (Stupa) of the Buddha. Then it is considered to be a complete altar. I hope this helps. Thanks.
