Dear Alexa,

I’m very sorry to read that you are going through this. Depending on the severity of the situation, if it is very bad, you need to reach out to those people who you trust and seek professional advice and help in dealing with the situation.

If it is not at such a severe level, then you and you are old enough, and depending on your situation, if it is not something that you can handle, then you should find a way to remove yourself from the situation.

In addition to this, from the Dharma practice angle there are some things that you can do to help manage this situation:
> Practice a Dharma Protector such as Dorje Shugden, the practice is known to helping alleviate difficult life circumstances and create conducive conditions for both secular and spiritual life.
> Meditate on karma and also compassion. This will help you to deal with the situation in your own. It will not help the sitatution physically, but will help you deal with the emotional pain.
> Calmly talk to your father about his actions and how they have been affecting you. This may be difficult to do, but it is something that you need to try. (only do this if the situation is not very bad).

This practice is very well-known to help all manner of negative circumstances and to create good conditions for our lives. It has been relied on for hundreds of years for this very reason. In addition to this, you should try talking to your parents/family that are inclined to make an arranged marriage for you, and do so calmly and try to get them to understand your position. Spiritual practices alone will not simply solve the issue, you also need to work at it yourself physically, and the practices will to make what you do easier and more successful. Does practicing good virtues, upholding your precepts and engaging in meditation purify a LOT of negative karma? if so, can it ever be equivalent to Vajrasattva if done with the four opponent powers?

Dear Anonymous,

Yes, holding your precepts/vows/commitments and engaging in meditation does purify a lot of karma. This however, takes many lifetimes to achieve. It is a very slow method of purification.

That’s why we also have purification methods based on tantric systems, such as Vajrasattva. The amount of purification that happens is quicker, first by the power of Vajrsattva and second by our practice of the Four Opponent Powers.

If you simple practice holding precepts/vows/commitments, the Four Opponent Powers are not strong enough to purify a lot of karma quickly. When you engage in Vajrasattva practice, the practice of the 35 Confessional Buddhas or other purification deities, their practices include the generation of the Four Opponent Powers in a very strong way, hence the purification is quicker compared to simply holding vows.

I have a questions about that:
I had 2 texts of Sangsol offering.
One is Sang Offering to Lord Kalarupa and his retinues.
Second is Sang Offering to Lord Dorje Shugden and his retinues.
Now, I had some problems with my visa and I need emergency help with this.
Could you help me what's most Sang Offering that i should focus about?

Hi there John,

Thank you for your question. I’m sorry to read that you are going through such a situation.

You can do either, choose one and focus on it. Both are extremely powerful and effective. Though due to our karmic affinity, you may see quicker results when engaging in Dorje Shugden’s sangsol compared to Lord Kalarupa’s sangsol. This is due to the closeness karmically speaking to Dorje Shugden as he manifests in worldly form, where as Kalarupa manifests in an enlightened form. I hope this helps. Either sangsol however will be very good for you to engage in, according to your preference and if you feel more close to one than the other.

I’ve been told that negative karma results from harmful thoughts and intentions. If you tried to help someone out of compassion and love for them and you genuinely beloved that you’re helping them- will one accumulate negative karma if the actions result in harm to the person? Or is the intention the only thing that counts when it comes to accumulating negative karma

Hi Dyspi,

Thanks for your question. In the case where the intention is good, but the result is negative, you still collect negative karma because the person experienced some form of suffering, but it is a lot, lot less than if you did the same action with the negative intention. At the same time, because your intention was good, even though the result was negative, you also generate some form of good karma.

So when thinking about karma, even though we explain and learn about it in terms of only good or bad karma, actually one act can produce karma that is mixed, both positive and negative.

There are actually four parts to the creation of karma – the object, intention, action and completion. To learn more about this, you should read the Lamrim teachings. The text we use here in Kechara is known as Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand (https://www.vajrasecrets.com/lamrim-liberation-in-the-palm-of-your-hand). I hope this helps.

How much karma and what types of karma can Vajrasattva practice purify if it is 108 recitations or more? Depending on motivation ofc

Dear Leo,

Vajrasattva practice can purify all types of karma when recited, as can any purification practice. There is no specific type or amount of karma that can be purified in terms of how many mantras you recite. Simply reciting the mantra will help to purify, but only to a small extent. This is due to the power of Vajrasattva and his mantra. Actually, purification on a transformation level occurs when you generate the Four Opponent Powers of which the actual method of purification, Vajrasattva mantra, is just one of the Powers.

If you recite Vajrasattva’s mantra with the Four Opponent powers say 21 times, you can purify 10 points of karma (I’m just quantifying karma so it’s easier to understand). But if you simple recite Vajrasattva mantra 108 times without the Four Opponent Powers, then perhaps you only purify 2-3 points of karma. So you should be worried about numbers to recite, but the quality of your practice. That being said, if you recite 108 times with the Four Opponent Powers then that is like 50 points of karma purified. Imagine how powerful that is for your transformation!

Namste pastors,
I have been facing stomach issues since years and when I intense pain started I started medicine buddha mantra recitation so pain vanished just like that, after that I keep reciting it but other issues are not going like intense constipation ans bloating.
Also I feel breathing issues time to time like now days. Even when I in medicine where I am so calm I feel breathing issues.
Which mantra can heal my both issues.
It's not like I am doubting medicine buddha, I have seen the miracle of recitation of his mantra. I just want something more effective for both problems so I can do my dharma practices more intensely and focus on that.
Help me.

Nice to see you here. Sorry to read about your health issues. We would recommend the practice of Shize. Shize is a Dharma Protector, so the benefits of his healing energies can be felt quicker than compared with Medicine Buddha. You can combine the practice with Medicine Buddha, so you get more benefit. You should engage in the practice of Medicine Buddha first, and then Shize. Doing both the practice together like this will be more effective as both are healing deities. At the same time, please do keep taking the medication prescribed by your doctor. If you are still having physical symptoms when taking the medication, go back to the doctor to explain the symptoms. Perhaps he can give other medications which do not have so much affects, or consider getting a second opinion. In Buddhism, we do not just rely on spiritual practices to heal, but it is combined with medical healing as well. I hope this helps and pray that your health problems are solved quick and you become healthy! Thank you.

Hello! How does one practice self visualization for yidam?
Do you look at yourself from a third person perspective or first person pov?

Hello Dyspi,

Self-visualisation as a yidam is only done if you have the initiation of that particular deity. It is done in first person pov. If you don’t have the initiation of that particular deity, then you can visualisation the deity in front of you instead. You can only do this with lower tantric deities. To practice the higher tantric deities, you must have the initiation of that deity. Practicing deities without having the correct initiation can actually lead to problems in your spiritual path, as the energies received during initiation play an important role. The vows and commitments received also help to guide your practice in general so that your deity practice is successful. I hope this helps to answer your question. Thank you.

Is nirvana a permanent stage according to buddhism or do we have to come back to participate in creation even after merging back with the source (like daoist belief and understanding)

Dear Ananya,

In Buddhism, once you reach the state of Nirvana or Enlightenment, it is permanent. Though you can choose to emanate back into samsara, or creation as you termed it, to benefit others and help lead them to the state of Nirvana too. However, you don’t loose the state of Nirvana even if you decide to do this. You remain and enlightened being, but simply take forms within samsara to benefit others. Normally, ordinary beings are at the mercy of karma as to where and when and how they take rebirth and the lives that they need to live. Enlightened beings because they are ‘outside’ of this system can choose where and how they take rebirth and how they live their lives to benefit others.

Do Buddhas and Bodhisattvas only help those who call out to them? They have compassion for every being but do they save or help non-buddhist? Can they only help us if we accept their help?

Hi Alle,

Yes, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas help everyone regardless if you are Buddhist or not. If you call out to them, they do help. For example, I have a Hindu friend who prays to Dorje Shugden and his prayers have been answered many times. So if you call out to them and accept them, meaning you are Buddhist, you will definitely gain their aid. However, even if you are not a Buddhist, but call out to them anyway, they will still help.

Actually, they are trying to help all the time, but our karma stops us from receiving their help. The act of invoking upon them, calling out to them, creates a connection that can cut through karma and allow us to receive their help. That is why Buddhists engage in practices daily, to ensure that the connection is there as much as possible so that we can benefit from their help.

How did Tsem Tulku feel about Dorje Shugden pick him to re- introducing the Dharmpalas Methar and Shangmo Dorje Putri pack into his retinue.? Of all the great Dorje Shugden Lamas and Tulkus in the world he felt that only Tsem Tulku was the one person who he could trust to do it. Did Rinpoche every talk about this great honour giving to him by Dorje Shugden.

The stories of Methar and Shangmo Dorje Putri, information about them, etc,. has been available, even in the English language, for a while. Both were placed in Dorje Shugden’s entourage by very high lamas in Tibet. Since that is the case, Tsem Rinpoche did not reintroduce them back into Dorje Shugden’s retinue, they were already there and information was available about them if you looked in the right places. Tsem Rinpoche chose to highlight them in a handful of the articles in the Dorje Shugden category of his blog, which has a total of 614 different articles about Dorje Shugden, his history, practice, lineage, etc. Tsem Rinpoche’s aim and goal was to try to preserve the information and share it.

Tsem Tulku gave Dorje Shugden as a YIDAM practice to some of his students so claims Pastor David Lai.

He stated this in his Youtube video of August 10, 2021 titled, "Once Upon A Time With Rinpoche – Rinpoche's Personal Yidam Pt 6".

Dear Charlene,

Rinpoche had assigned Dorje Shugden as the main practise that certain students should practice, hence they take Dorje Shugden as their “yidam” referring to Dorje Shugden being their primary practice, due to affinity, need, etc.

As Pastor David clarified, Dorje Shugden is an enlightened being. So he can be practised as a proper yidam, however there doesn’t exist the practice of Dorje Shugden as a yidam, or meditation deity, only a Protector deity. The criteria for a deity to be considered a yidam deity is the generation and completion stages associated with tantra. That is the difference between whether a deity is practised as a Dharma Protector or a Yidam. Pastor David has clarified these in other talks that he has given, but I cannot remember which ones, as it was not the main topic.

For example, let’s take the example of White Mahakala. He has texts that propitiate him as a Dharma Protector, so he is practised as a Dharma Protector. He is also fully enlightened, and lamas do assign his practice as a Dharma Protector as the main practise that a student should focus on. In that sense he is their ‘yidam’ because he is the main practice that they focus on.

However, he is also practised as a proper yidam, because there are initiations, lineages and practice texts that include the generation and completion stages, so in that case he is a proper yidam. That is the main difference between emanations of enlightened deities being either a Dharma Protector or a Yidam. Currently there are no lineages of Dorje Shugden being practised as a yidam, only a Dharma Protector. I hope the difference is clear.

So there is actually no contradiction with what Pastor David said, because of how Pastor David used the word yidam to refer to a person’s main practise, and the actual definition of the difference between a Dharma protector and a yidam. As stated by Tsem Rinpoche himself on many occasions, Dorje Shugden is Manjushri, and as an enlightened being he can be practised as a proper yidam, but this practice simply does not exist at the moment. Hopefully in the future, Dorje Shugden and the Lamas will manifest his teaching as a yidam replete with both the completion and generation stages. I hope this helps. Thank you.

I asked about Tsem Tulku being a Yidam since I was told that he considered himself be be an emanation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. That would explain Tsem Tulku's utter devotion to spreading the works of Dorje Shugden to the World.

Dear Charlene,

If you are taking the example of Rinpoche’s previous lives, there were also spiritual teachers, hence they would not be practiced as yidams or meditation deities. This is the case with Tsem Rinpoche and all of Rinpoche’s previous incarnations. To call upon his blessings, as mentioned in the previous question, this is done through Guru Yoga practices.

Also, you’ve mentioned the practice of Dorje Shugden. This practice is a Dharma Protector practice, not a yidam or meditational deity practice. Though there are some Dharma Protectors who can be practised as both, as their practice arose in that manner, for example Sengdongma or White Mahakala. The practice of Dorje Shugden however is purely a Dharma Protector practice. Thanks.

Yidams are meditational deities with very specific functions. Tsem Rinpoche was a guru, so he would never be practised as a yidam. The function of Guru Yoga is to provide huge amounts of blessings, inspiration and merits for our spiritual transformation. The article explains more about what the Guru Yoga is and how to do it in the commentary section. This can be done by anyone and there are no vows or commitments that need to be taken. Hello, I want to ask about karma purification.

How does purification Buddha practices like Vajrasattva purify karma? Does it stop karmic seeds from ripening? Or does it actually force negative karma to manifest in unfortunate situations right now?

Dear Anonymous,

Purification is a big topic and a little too complicated to explain in detail here. Basically, when you engage in the purification, you use what are know as the Four Opponent Powers. Depending on how strong you generate these within your mind and how much effort you put in to purification practice, there are three results. The lowest results is that you stop some of your karma from multiplying, the middle result is that you lessen the effects of some of your karma and the highest result is that you purify that karma completely, so you don’t need to experience the result any more.

When you are engaged in heavy and extended periods of purification practices, such as when in retreat, some times what happens is that as the karma is being purified you will feel its lessened effects. For example, if you have a particular negative body karma that means you may get into an accident, and you are engaged in heavy purification practices, because the force of that karma is very strong and the Buddhas are helping you to get rid of it, maybe you get an ache in your leg because you sat on your meditation cushion too long. Or perhaps you have the karma to go through tremendous emotional suffering, so when in retreat this can manifest as a disturbed mind that cannot concentrate. This is due to the middling level of purification and the blessings of the Three Jewels.

When engaged in purification practice generally or an a daily basis, such things are less likely to occur, almost never. So in that sense, purification practices do not make negative karma manifest in unfortunate circumstances as we usually think about. If your practice is middling level during intensive practices, yes, some times it can manifest, but in a very different and controlled manner.

Another example, perhaps you have the karma to be in a serious car accident, but on a daily basis if you do purifications practices, such as Vajrasattva or Protector Kawang, you have been purifying karma slowly over time. You haven’t got rid of the karma completely, so if the causes and conditions are right, then that karma will still ripen, but to a small extent. For example instead of being serious harmed physically, you only a small scratch, but apart from that everything else is fine. I hope that makes sense? Thank you.

What is the best way to ask a guru to be your teacher? I don't want to just burst into a temple and say "please be my teacher!" I desperately want to learn from a real guru I just have no idea how to establish this relationship. Thank you for your time!

Hello Charles,

It’s really good to read this. Before you actually ask that guru, you should do your research. Understand the lineage teachings of your guru, which tradition, how long he/she has been practising and teaching, etc. You should also check the qualities of the guru, these can be found in teachings such as the 50 Verses of Guru Devotion. Once you have researched and checked thoroughly, you need to come to a decision whether or not you can commit to that teacher. The guru-disciple relationship is very, very important in our spiritual path. So you should prepare yourself by reading more about the importance of the guru and the guru-disciple relationship.

Once you have come to an informed decision, you should arrange with the temple to meet that guru. You should prepare offerings before hand. This can be anything from your heart, but traditionally they are representations of the body (Buddha images, such as a statue, thangka, printed and framed image, ect), speech (and Dharma text) and mind (stupa) of the Buddhas. When you go to see the guru to request taking Refuge with them, you should prostrate three times to the guru, offer a khata to them, then present the offerings, and finally request to be their student and ask them to grant Refuge. The act of taking Refuge with a teacher in Tibetan Buddhism, makes that person your guru and the guru-disciple relationship is established. I hope all of this helps. Of course. That would be very good and beneficial for you. The Praises to the 21 Taras can be recited by anyone, any time. The best would of course be during your sadhana (daily practice), but it can be recited any time of the day. If you are trying to memorise it, it is good to recite it as much as you can. The trick with memorising a text is to recite it out aloud, rather than in your head. That way you will memorise it quicker. I hope this helps.

Hi pastor, I have trust issues and I want to practice Tibetan Buddhism but what are requirements? do I have to devote my entire life to it??? do I have to practice tantra eventually?? after death, where do we go??? Thank you for your question. The way to get over your fear is to learn more about Tibetan Buddhism, its beliefs, the benefits of the practice, etc. When we come to practise something new we can either be skeptical/fearful of it, or on the other hand, we can be over enthusiastic about it. Either way has it’s detriments. So the best thing for you to do before you decide if you really want to practice Tibetan Buddhism is to learn more about it.

You can do the following to find out more before making your decision.

Pastor Chia (sangha to be)

As a pastor, Chia will dedicate his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

Ordained as a Pastor in 2011, Chia Song Peng has had a rich and varied Dharma career. He has held a core position with the Kechara Paradise retail outlets, served as a personal attendant to Tsem Rinpoche, embarked on various pilgrimages and received initiations into higher yoga tantric practices. He is accomplished in many pujas and has a deep understanding of the Dharma.

As a pastor, Chia has dedicated his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

When Chia first met Tsem Rinpoche, he was asked if he wanted to become a monk, however even though this was his aspiration he informed Tsem Rinpoche that he would do so at a later date. For Chia, as he has is already in the Dharma full-time, it would be best if he became ordained. Tsem Rinpoche has reminded Chia from time to time to work towards becoming a monk and he promised that he would do so in the future.

Kechara began from nothing to become a growing Dharma organisation with major projects such as Kechara Forest Retreat, so Chia thinks that this is the perfect time to become ordained as a monk. Recently Tsem Rinpoche asked Chia again if he would like to be ordained, this time Chia said yes.

Pastor Khong Jean Ai (sangha to be)

Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings.

Jean Ai met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche as a young child and through her parents' involvement with Kechara over the years, she has never known a life without His Eminence. Jean Ai was a regular volunteer of Tsem Ladrang during her childhood and teenage years. After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Warwick in the UK and working at the London Probation Service, she returned to Kuala Lumpur to join Tsem Ladrang's e-division. There she managed kechara.com, responsible for the weekly Kechara e-newsletter, including content generation and editing. Since then she has joined His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s writing team, responsible for executing Rinpoche’s personal instructions and managing his correspondence.

Having visited a nunnery in India in 2004, Jean Ai remembers noticing how happy and purposeful everyone was. She had a feeling of familiarity and the sight of the robes comforted her. Immediately, Jean Ai messaged her mother who told her to ask Rinpoche’s advice. Rinpoche told her to complete her secular education so that when she taught the Dharma her words would carry the credibility and weight of a university degree, something she completed with the motivation that some day she wanted to become a nun.

Through her ordination as a nun, Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings. Through this she hopes to repay the kindness of her parents and her Guru. Above all she wants to abide in a state free of suffering, and she wants this for others as well.

Pastor Shin Tan (sangha to be)

For Shin, this is a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Before joining Kechara, Shin worked as a lecturer and provider of content and e-learning content solutions for various start-ups. Whilst providing training to educators teaching students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at various colleges, she was invited to attend a Dharma talk given by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at Kechara House. This event rekindled her interest in Tibetan Buddhism, as she recalled the joy of accompanying her parents to teachings as a teenager.

Joining Kechara Media & Publications in 2006 as a volunteer, Shin assumed a full time position there as a Marketing Executive, with the aim of making His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings available to more people around the world. Shin is now a member of the Tsem Ladrang Team, who takes care of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s secular matters, enabling Rinpoche to focus on teaching the holy Dharma.

Shin states that when she decided to join Kechara full time, she had already decided to be of some benefit to others and spend the rest of her life doing only that. Working closely with His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, seeing his tireless effort in helping others and spreading the Buddhadharma through the Gaden tradition despite tremendous challenges has made her realise that the next logical step is to become ordained as she has the opportune conditions to study with her Guru. For Shin this is also a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Pastor Adeline Woon (sangha to be)

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission and wishes to dedicate herself fully towards the benefit of others.

Adeline stumbled across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche's blog towards the end of 2010 and has been following his blog and Facebook page ever since. Since graduating from Dharma Drum Buddhist College Taiwan with a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies in July 2012, she returned to Malaysia and joined Kechara as a Senior Education Executive. Adeline was attracted by His Eminence’s straightforwardness and impressed at Kechara's growth under his guidance. To Adeline, His Eminence is someone who walks the talk, keeps his promises and sincerely cares for others displaying an excellent example of guru devotion, qualities that she seeks to develop herself.

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission. It was in May 2013 that she officially requested His Eminence for ordination as a nun to dedicate her life fully for the dharma. According to Adeline, become ordained means that she is being true to her calling to live according to the dharma and be of benefit to others.

This however can only be achieved by meeting and studying under her root Guru. Adeline has been fortunate enough to have met with hers - His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.

Pastor Niral Patel (sangha to be)

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Niral was born and raised in the UK, having graduated with a BA in Anthropology, he was working as a Financial Administrator for a Serviced Apartment & Hotel company as well as a Management Services company before stumbling across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s Youtube channel, entirelyby accident. It was through His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings that he began to understand the importance of practicing the Dharma, in order to benefit himself and others around him.

Having been in contact with one of Tsem Rinpoche’s long time students in the UK, he was encouraged to visit Kechara in late 2012 for a 10 day visit. At the end of the visit Tsem Rinpoche requested Niral to come to work at Kechara, to which he agreed.

Niral moved to Malaysia in February 2013 to work as an education coordinator at Kechara House, assisting the Education Division in the creation and implementation of the new education syllabus, teaching teenagers during the Kechara Sunday Dharma School. Ever since meeting Tsem Rinpoche, he has always been encouraged by Tsem Rinpoche to do more Dharma work and strive to better himself. It is with that in mind, that Niral has requested monastic ordination.

Pastor Tan Gim Lee (sangha to be)

Gim Lee’s main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara’s doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche’s kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa’s holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

She discovered Kechara by chance in 2006 and started to participate Kechara's activities almost immediately especially the retreat to collect 10 million Migtsema recitations. In April 2006, when Gim Lee met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and first listened to his teachings, she wept uncontrollably. Though she could not understand it at the time, she had finally found her perfect teacher. She is especially touched by Tsem Rinpoche's compassionate method of teaching by setting his own examples.

Having joined as a staff of Kechara House responsible for housekeeping in 2009, Gim Lee is now one of Kechara House's Front Desk Managers predominantly based in the retreat centre in Bentong, Pahang. She also teaches the Sunday Dharma Class and moderates Dharma discussions on Tsem Rinpoche's blog chat.

The many teachings she has received from Tsem Rinpoche have changed her priorities in life. She found answers to her questions about the purpose of life, and she has realised that the way to overcome the sufferings of pain and anger is by following the path of compassion and wisdom as taught by Lord Buddha. These realisations have led to her request to be ordained as a Sangha member.

As pastor now, and later as a Buddhist nun, Gim Lee's main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara's doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. Pastor Loh Seng Piow (sangha to be)

Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Back in 2001, Loh Seng Piow had no inkling of just how involved in Dharma he would become. As a Masters degree-holder in Engineering, Loh Seng Piow was working as a research engineer in Singapore when he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s talk left a strong impression on him and after a few encounters with Rinpoche, Loh Seng Piow started developing websites for Rinpoche and Kechara.

Loh Seng Piow was trained in science, but soon realised that there were many questions that science could not answer. At the same time, he also felt that science and technology are not the solution to human problems, as humans are much better off compared to thousands years ago, yet the problems in this world are still the same, if not more, and we do not seem to be happier than our ancestors.

Loh Seng Piow soon realised that the Dharma is the ultimate solution to human problems, and that the methods used by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche are very suitable for this modern era. Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Meeting Rinpoche was a very refreshing experience for Loh Seng Piow, as he never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. As Rinpoche’s personal attendant, Loh Seng Piow has had many incredible moments with Rinpoche and considers himself extremely fortunate because he sees real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. It challenges him to practice Dharma 24/7. In this way, Rinpoche has blown away his old and persistent way of thinking, which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Having seen that Tsem Rinpoche truly embodies what he teaches, Loh Seng Piow is convinced beyond doubt that it is possible to develop our minds to a higher state, and ultimately achieving enlightenment. All these factors have propelled Loh Seng Piow to take a step further in his Dharma career to become ordained as a pastor in order to be even more effective in sharing and disseminating the Dharma to benefit others.

Pastor Yek Yee

Naturally an introvert, Yek Yee has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

Independence was forced upon Kok Yek Yee from the tender age of nine, when she had to juggle between work and school to make ends meet. Always the introvert, Yek Yee had few friends and had difficulty expressing herself. So it was unexpected when she chose a career in journalism.

Yek Yee excelled as an award-winning reporter with Guang Ming Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau. Her articles garnered her a fanbase, and in writing, she found an outlet for the thoughts and feelings that she could not verbalise. However, despite her success, Yek Yee was not satisfied. Temporary happiness was not what she was looking for – success, money, relationships, or fame was not the key.

In her search for happiness, Yek Yee met H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, who told her “don’t retaliate with your speech, but use your power of writing to express yourself”. This led her to join Kechara Media & Publications as a writer; subsequently she was appointed Senior Editor as well as a Liaison to His Eminence.

Yek Yee now holds a core role in Kechara Care, giving advice, tours, counseling and teachings to whoever walks through their doors. Through courage and determination, she has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

As a Pastor, her patience and open-mindedness developed through her journey with Kechara will bring comfort and solace, and her new-found ability to nurture and teach others will bring hope to many.

Pastor Lanse Chiah

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Lanse graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China in 1999 and became a part-time lecturer for several years, teaching western medicine in a Traditional Chinese medical college in Kuala Lumpur.

For a long time, Lanse remained an atheist, subconsciously searching for a spiritual guru as she sought answers to questions she harboured in her mind, questions that had led her into a state of depression during her time at university. As such, she would often read philosophical books in her search for answers.

Lanse first came to know of Kechara in 2007, through her friend of over 10 years, Pastor Yek Yee. She was surprised to see a complete transformation in Pastor Yek Yee, whom she had always known as a non-spiritual person. The first book by Kechara that Lanse chanced upon was the Chinese version of Be Greedy. Naturally, Lanse was skeptical at first, thus she read the book in an attempt to find mistakes with the philosophy. However, she couldn’t find any and was left impressed by how logical the explanations in the book were.

In March 2009, Lanse joined Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) part-time to carry out Chinese translation and help with transcription. The following year, she contemplated upon whether to pursue a full-time medical or a Dharma career, finally deciding on the latter. Lanse came to realise that, although both careers share the same motivation of easing people’s sufferings, she felt that her work in Dharma could lead to a greater contribution for the sake of all sentient beings in a deeper, spiritual sense.

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Pastor Han Nee

It was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

Lim Han Nee, a mother of two, is a retired secondary school principal. She retired in December 2000 after a 30-year career in education. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education at Leicester University in the UK, at the end of 2001.

After gaining her master’s degree, Han Nee considered further options of embarking on a doctorate in education or spending her years in retirement, travelling and visiting family. At the same time, she was also in search of her spiritual path. She had begun exploring Theravadan and Chinese Mahayana Buddhism for answers to questions she had.

In December 2004, Han Nee attended a teaching retreat on the topic of the Lamrim and White Tara held by His Eminence Gelek Rinpoche. As the retreat proceeded, she found her questions were being answered. Then in June 2005, Han Nee was introduced to Kechara by her sister, where she met her spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who has recently told her that she must go all the way in the Dharma for the benefit of others.

Han Nee had been a school guidance counsellor for nearly twenty years. However, it was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

A member of Kechara’s Puja Team, who conduct sponsored pujas in Shabten Khang, Han Nee is also a member of the Education Division with the portfolio of Content Development. Apart from this, Han Nee is also a member of the weekly Kechara Chat Time team.

Pastor David Lai

In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

David Lai has been a student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche for over a decade now and was one of the founding members of Kechara. He joined Kechara as a full time staff in 2005 and has been working in various departments beginning with the Kechara Paradise outlets.

Right from the beginning, David had been advised by His Eminence to go into writing. Overcoming various hurdles, David finally began his literary career with the publication of his first book and autobiography, There’s No Way But Up in 2009. The book charts his spiritual journey from his childhood and culminates in the meeting with His Eminence.

The positive feedback from this book led him to write various other publications like Vajrayogini and Other Power Places in Nepal – a pilgrim’s guide of Nepal, Tales My Lama Told Me – a book on short stories and Conversations in Love – a book on relationships. These books continue to inspire and bring people onto the Dharma.

Besides writing, David has found his passion in sharing the Dharma since his earlier days working in the Kechara Paradise outlets. Over the years, David has received innumerable teachings from His Eminence, ranging from public teachings to personal instructions and advice. He is known to passionately share these teachings whenever he can and to whomever he meets. In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

Pastor Henry Ooi

Born in 1952 in Penang, Henry moved to Kuala Lumpur in search of work after he finished his Form Five studies in 1969. He worked at different types of jobs and it was when he was jobless in 1997/8 that he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at the house of his cousin, Ruby (now Dato’ Ruby Khong), when Rinpoche was giving a dharma teaching. At that teaching Henry was awed by how Rinpoche taught Dharma with simple yet profound explanations.

With the kind guidance, teachings and Dharma practices by Rinpoche including instruction to engage in their first spiritual retreat, Henry and his wife Angel started a small business that soon became profitable. A few years later after Kechara House Buddhist Association was founded, Rinpoche started to enrol students as liaisons and that was when Henry and Dato’ Ruby offered themselves. Later more students were elected as liaisons that saw the birth of Liaisons Council. The Liaisons Council is now known as the Board of Directors of which Henry is one of its members.

Currently Henry is the Project Director, overseeing the construction and completion of projects in the Kechara Forest Retreat. Prior to this appointment he was the Head of Department in Kechara Paradise retail outlets of which he served for about ten years. He still remains as its company director as well as director for most of the companies within Kechara. He served one term as vice president of Kechara House Buddhist Association from 2012 to 2103.

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public. As he aspires to be a monk as he grows older, being a pastor of Kechara will pave the way for his aspiration. Henry believes that as one gets older in life, one should have already prepared for the imminent, death. And what a beautiful death it will be, to die in Kechara Forest Retreat in a monk’s robes. This is the kind of death that Henry wants. But before the imminent death happens, Henry wants to continue working in Kechara Forest Retreat, serving the community and whoever comes into it in whatever way he can. And when he is not physically anymore to serve others, he will request instructions from Rinpoche to enter into retreats in Kechara Forest Retreat.

Pastor Patsy Gooi

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work, dharma practices and being of benefit to others.

Formerly a full time housewife with plenty of free time, Patsy had the great fortune to visit Gaden Monastery and meet H.E. Tsem Rinpoche almost twenty years ago. That one week stay in the monastery changed her view of life. Prior to that, she had no spiritual inclinations but meeting Rinpoche stirred something inside her, and she realised that there was more to life than just eating, sleeping, shopping and having fun. Rinpoche’s approach to dharma was logical and practical but most importantly, he stressed that we should always focus out and work towards benefitting others. Rinpoche made dharma easy to understand and his advice was and still is, to “change inwardly, not outwardly.”

In 2009, after years of practicing and applying what she had learned from Rinpoche’s teachings, Patsy decided to set up a Kechara retail outlet in Penang to share the dharma with others. She knew that Rinpoche’s teachings were very applicable to the people of our time and that his activities would benefit others just as they had benefited her. She also wanted to repay the kindness of her Guru who had constantly helped and guided her. Today, Kechara Paradise Penang is not just a dharma shop but also organises puja sessions, animal liberation and dharma talks.

In 2010, again with Rinpoche’s blessings, Patsy set up the Kechara Soup Kitchen Activity Center in Penang. Saddened to see the plight of the homeless and urban poor on the streets, Patsy decided to practice “compassion through action” as taught by Rinpoche in the most active way she knows. Today, together with her team of volunteers, Patsy feeds the homeless and urban poor four times a week and provides basic food provisions to many hardcore poor families on a monthly basis.

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work and dharma practices, and that she may be of benefit to others.

Pastor Albert Ratchaga

In 2008, Albert Ratchaga began working as a part timer in Kechara Paradise, but as he learned more about the works of Rinpoche and Kechara, Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion touched him deeply. He realised that his work gave his life more meaning and decided to join Kechara full time.

Through his work as a sales executive, Albert was able learn more Dharma from Rinpoche's teachings and use this wisdom to assist those who entered his store to overcome their problems, thus improving their lives.

Albert soon developed a deep wish to follow in Rinpoche’s footsteps and in 2016 was ordained as a Pastor to continue benefitting and serving others.

Losar is the Tibetan New Year, a festival that marks the beginning of the year on the Tibetan calendar. It is celebrated among the Tibetan community all over the world recently. Losar marks the beginning of the Tibetan calendar year a time for family gatherings, religious ceremonies, and feasting because of its long history and rich cultural traditions. The celebrations will last for 15 days whereby the first three days being the most important day for them and widely celebrated festival on the Tibetan calendar. During theTibetan New Year, Panglung Oracles are known to enter a trance state, of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. This practice is considered a significant part of the Losar celebrations within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, providing guidance and blessings to those seeking their wisdom. People often consult the Panglung oracles to receive predictions, advice, and blessings for the coming year. Dorje Shugden will also give teachings while in trance of an oracle.
Reading this old blog again where back in 2022, the Great Protector Dorje Shugden gave an inportant message to everyone of us. We should take it seriously practising good virtues, such as prostrating ,making offerings and practise the holy Dharma. Everyone should always be kind-hearted and doing our best to cultivate loving-kindness, compassion and bodhicitta.

Pemayangtse Monastery is a Buddhist monastery in Sikkim, India that is part of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It is one of the oldest and most famous monasteries in Sikkim. It is home to Dorje Shugden, a spirit in Tibetan tradition. The monastery is one of the oldest and most famous in Sikkim. Pemayangtse Monastery in Sikkim, founded by Lhatsun Namkha Jigme of the Nyingma tradition. One of the earliest modern academic references to Dorje Shugden. Stunning sculptures, paintings and ancient scrolls can be found in the Monastery. Interesting story behind this monastery,as described by Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Austine Waddell a British explorer, collector and author. Through the years of travelling in India, Sikkim and areas on the borders of Nepal and Tibet, after doing research on Tibetan Buddhist religious practices he made a stunning discovery. He discovered that Dorje Shugden existence in the Nyingma monastery as written in his book, which confirmed that Dorje Shugden been worshipped in the Nyingma as well . Not only worshipped in the Gelug lineage but held prominence in the Nyingma tradition too. Interesting read.

Inspiring read, revisit again to refresh about an important lama. Venerable Geshe Thupten a Tibetan great scholars and master who founded Tibetan schools in exile. He who had upheld the lineage of Lord Buddha’s liberating teachings and his practice of Dorje Shugden. Even though in exile Geshe Thupten Lama worked tirelessly for the Tibetan government yet just because he did expressed his views openly, and bravely regarding banning the practice of Dorje Shugden. After serving the Tibetan government for so many years, Geshe Thupten Lama is threatened and branded a Chinese spy. He left to the USA and wrote The Supreme Path to the Trikaya where he commented detailed explanations on the practice of the Six Paramitas or the Six Perfections, and other beneficial Dharma treasures.

Historically, the Panchen Lama was second only to the Dalai Lama in spiritual authority within the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
The 10th Panchen Lama, believed to be an emanation of Amitabha himself. The 10th Panchen Lama saw auspicious signs after completing the prayer text or Sungbum to Dorje Shugden. He had strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddha Dharma in general and especially the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa . Like thousands of other great beings, the Panchen Lama had relied on Dorje Shugden, been practiced in his monastery, Tashi Lhunpo until his end. Hundreds thousands of people would his attend public discourses each time.

Tales of supernatural creatures like Bigfoot, aliens, trolls, little people are always my reading interest. Came across this old blog about Dark Watchers so interesting.
The Dark Watchers known by early Spanish settlers as Los Vigilantes Oscuros. Is a name given to a group of entities in California folklore purportedly seen observing travellers along the Santa Lucia Mountains. The earliest written accounts of the Dark Watchers date back to the 1700s, when Spanish colonists called them los vigilantes oscuros. According to Chumash folklore, the Dark Watchers are shadowy figures that stand atop the lofty heights, silently observing the land below. The Dark Watchers are mysterious, tall, shadowy figures that have been reported in California for centuries. They are often described as wearing cloaks and hats, and are said to appear around twilight. Whatever scary it looks we have Dorje Shugden to protect us. Even though there are spirits every where seen or not seen by our naked eyes we should leave them un disturb as it is. I do believe its existence every where day and night.

Revisit this blog again and again as its such an interesting blog with awesome stories to share. All about a great Gelugpa lama . Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was a scholar, an abbot, a Dharma teachers and he was also a healer. He was an important Gelugpa lama and a contemporary of the 5th Dalai Lama. Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen was the erudite high lama who arose as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden, regarded as an emanation of the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. During the era of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama, Dorje Shugden took rebirth in the form of a very special incarnate lama. Just imagine at the age of 2 or 3, he was already speaking and playing with ritual instruments and having clear visions of meditational deities and enlightened beings. Apparently, he had also received many direct visions of deities and exalted Gurus from a very young age. Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen and the 5th Dalai Lama shared a very respectful and close relationship. As results there’s jealousy among officers of 5th Dalai Lama resulting in the murder of Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen. As an apology to Dorje Shugden for the murder the 5th Dalai Lama crafted a statue and even composed an apologetic prayer. He also built a chapel Trode Khangsar dedicated to recognize Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen as a Dharma protector,Dorje Shugden in Lhasa.
I have the opportunity to visit this Scared Trode Khangsar years back . Reading this blog always remind me of my trip.

Buddhism is one of the recognized religions in Indonesia, with a long history in the country. The largest Buddhist temple in the world, Borobudur, is located in Central Java. Buddhism arrived in Indonesia in the sixth century. The history of Buddhism in Indonesia is closely related to the history of Hinduism. The Indonesian archipelago has, over the centuries, witnessed the rise and fall of powerful Buddhist empires. A number of Buddhist sites and artifacts related to Indonesia’s historical heritage can be found in Indonesia. As such the 8th century Borobudur mandala monument and Sewu temple in Central Java and numerous statues or inscriptions from the earlier history of Indonesian Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms. Interesting read. Many Buddhist sites, stupas, temples, and manuscripts were lost or forgotten with since the arrival of Islam. Once a year, thousands of Buddhists from Indonesia and neighboring countries flock to Borobudur to commemorate the national Waisak Day. The Borobudur Temple Compounds is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world, and was built in the 8th and 9th centuries AD. The monument was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1991.

The Lizard Man is a legendary, seven-foot-tall, red-eyed, scaly-skinned reptile that is said to live in the swamps of South Carolina. The legend of the Lizard Man has been around since 1988. The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp ,also known as the Lizard Man of Lee County is an entity said to inhabit the swampland of the region. A large, green, lizard-like creature emerged from the shadows. Many others have claimed encounters with the legendary Lizard Man. The Lizard Man has been the subject of much publicity in the press, on the radio, television and even in movies. The lizard man myth brings curious travellers from across the globe into town, searching for the prehistoric beast lurking beneath the swamp. Ancient Historical Accounts of Lizard man sound interesting after reading it. I do believe in legends as there’s many unseen beings whereby is not seen by our naked eyes. Many others have claimed encounters with the legendary Lizard Man, leaving a mark on the small, agricultural town.

Historically Langmu monastery was the center of local religion, culture, economy and politics. Langmu Monastery is one of the most popular wild destinations in Sichuan as it provides excellent travel experience in nomads Tibet.It is a group of monasteries built at the border of Sichuan and Gansu Province. Founded in 1748 AD Constructed in 1748, belongs to Tibetan Buddhism. After years of extension and development, the temple today is composed of ten affiliated temples . It is a destination for strenuous pilgrimages and fascinating . A river, Bailong River, separates the township into two parts, one part in Gansu and another one in Sichuan. Wow Langmu monastery is a place where one can experience both Tibetan Buddhism and Islamic culture. Langmu Monastery is one of the largest to practise Dorje Shugden. That’s wonderful Kechara did sent to Langmu Monastery 600 sets of Dorje Shugden collateral in the Tibetan language. The monastery also ordered from Kechara an entire set of statues of Dorje Shugden.

Arjia Rinpoche is one of the most prominent Buddhist teachers and lamas to have left Tibet. He was recognized by 10th Panchen Lama as the 20th Arjia Danpei Gyaltsen, the reincarnation of Je Tsongkhapa’s father. He has trained with lineage teachers, such as the 14th Dalai Lama, the 10th Panchen Lama, and Gyayak Rinpoche. He had received many sacred teachings and ritual instructions from these great lamas. He was forced to leave his monastery and attend a Chinese school, yet secretly continued to practice and study with his tutors during the Cultural Revolution . Arjia Rinpoche went into exile and escaped to the United established a Buddhist Center for Compassion and Wisdom. Throughout his life, Arjia Rinpoche was tutored by specialized teachers in the area of Buddhist philosophy, sutra and tantra teachings, as well as in Buddhist art and architectural design.Since then Rinpoche has been giving teachings throughout the United States, Canada, Taiwan, India and Guatemala.
For the sake of harmony and unity of the Tibetans , Rinpoche has advised the Tibetans to stop discriminating against Dorje Shugden practitioners. Arjia Rinpoche’s message of peaceful is consistent with the spirit of Buddhism and even spirituality in general. The ban against Dorje Shugden was imposed in 1996 and since that time, the has cause sufferings among the Tibetans in exile. No one should be discriminated against due to their religion or spiritual path. Dorje Shugden people, should be allowed choice of religion and be involved in the preservation of the Tibetan culture.It was during the 10th Panchen Lama’s Maha-Parinirvana 30th Anniversary, Arjia Rinpoche spoke bravely on fulfilling the Panchen Lama’s wishes.

Buddhism is a religion and philosophy that developed from the doctrines of the Buddha. Is a major religion in the world, originated in India in the 5th century BCE and is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the Buddha. Buddhists believe that life is a cycle of suffering and rebirth. Having priests and pastors in each centers or place of worships or retreat centers around the world serving and spreading Buddha teachings with more and more people get to know more knowledge of Buddhism. Reading this blog , given me a more understanding of the role of Pastors or known as Priest in some parts of the world. There’s many Buddhist Priest around the world serving others leading services , performing ceremonies and rituals. Many people have benefited, having Pastors or Priests around helping them out with their teaching, and providing spiritual support. That’s awesome. Here at Kechara we too having Pastors making Buddha’s wisdom accessible to more people by giving spiritual guidance and sharing knowledge. In this way, the Dharma is preserved and made available to busy spiritual seekers. Compassion is always in season. Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things. Animals have moral status, and animal suffering matters. No need to explain more as different people have different view. Let them be and say what they want.

Living a calm and simple life yet rich with inner meaning, personal growth, and a deep connection to oneself, one’s values . Those moment of quietness, free from the rush and noise of daily life, allows for self-reflection and a deeper understanding of our actions and their impacts. By taking a softer approach to living, we can focus more on our internal happiness, building our emotional health.

The act of liberating animals helps us to develop the nature of not harming others, creating the awareness of not eating animals for the sake of attachment to meat and thus promoting a vegetarian lifestyle. When one releasing lives brings blessings to the whole family, a multitude releasing lives brings divine protection. Among all merits, releasing lives is indeed supreme. Beyond financial generosity , we also practice the generosity of Dharma and the generosity of fearlessness. Releasing lives embodies all three types of giving in one noble act which we should make use of the opportunity to do more. The merits of animals liberation are truly unparalleled.
Reading this article by Daily Mail Reporter where a group of Tibetan Buddhists released 534 live lobsters into the Atlantic Sea. Rejoice Geshe Tenley and a group of Tibetan Buddhists releasing them one by one to freedom into the deep water.

pastor answered: Dear Rolf, The deities you are praying to now are very good. Both White Tara and Medicine Buddha are actually healing deities. White Tara is also considered a long-life deity as well. If you were given the practices by a guru, then you should contact them to see which one you should concentrate on. If you don't have a guru, then in my opinion you should focus mainly on one particular deity and practice properly to get the full benefits of the practice. For Medicine Buddha, the practice is explained here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/medicine-buddha-practice.html For White Tara (which is shorter in length and less complicated) we have the practice explained here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/healing-practices-for-infectious-diseases.html (Even though the article is framed to help heal infectious diseases, she helps in all manner of healing and creating the causes for a long and healthy life.) If you are open to focusing on another deity instead, the practice of Shize is very good as well. Shize is an emanation of Dorje Shugden, who is a Dharma Protector. He himself is an emanation of Manjushri who is known as the Buddha of Wisdom and great for things like increasing and stabilising memory. Shize's speciality is for healing and long life also. I recommend him as Dharma Protector practices also help to overcome any obstacles that we may be facing faster than meditational deities. If you are already having signs of a failing memory, then this practice may be more effective right away. If you are not experiencing too many signs of failing memory, then you should focus on either White Tara or Medicine Buddha. But focus specifically on one of deity, so that you can create a very strong relationship with them, so that they can help you more. I have experience with both Medicine Buddha and White Tara practices, both are very effective when engaged in consistently and with faith. I hope this helps you. Are the practices of Black Manjushri and Trakpo Sumtril effective in curing people who have recently undergone surgery? Thanks.
pastor answered: Dear Paulo, In short, yes, the practice of Lama Tsongkhapa can be used for healing for oneself and others. When engaged in the mantra recitation section, visualise white healing lights from Lama Tsongkhapa's heart healing the particular person you are praying for. While this is effective, specific practices for healing, such as those you have mentioned may be quicker in it's effects as those practices are specficially manifested by the Buddhas for healing purposes. Black Manjushri and Trakpo Sumtril are also healing deities so they can can help in healing for sure, recovering from surgery, etc. I hope this helps.

pastor answered: Dear Bhavisha didi, Thank you replying. I will answer in two parts: 1. I know the teachings that you are refering to in which Tsem Rinpoche said that Manjushri helps us "temporarily" and what he meant. Basically, Manjushri helps to get a clear mind so that when we are able to learn and understand the Dharma, we can transform ourselves to be better people and ultimately progress on the spiritual path. In the case of being temporary, this is because as Rinpoche mentioned, it is a method for us to develop a clear mind. If we don't use our clear mind to transform ourselves, which will stabilise and increase Manjushri's ability to help us, we have not used his blessings to the fullest potential. If we don't progress on our spiritual path ourselves to a certain level, we will end up creating more negative karma and obscurations, which will lead our mind to become unclear, unfocused, again. So that is the reason why Rinpoche may have refered to it as temporary, because Rinpoche was emphasising that it is through own effort that we actually transform. Manjushri helps us to do that. 2. Kalidevi is known as the protectress Palden Lhamo in Tibetan Buddhism. You can read about her here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/palden-lhamo.html. She is seen as an emanation of Saraswati within Buddhist belief. She also have a very strong link to Kali Ghat Temple, and many Tibetan Buddhists go to visit the temple every year to make prayers. Understanding about Palden Lhamo is slightly different from the Hindu understanding. But Tsem Rinpoche always used to tell me that they are actually one and the same. Sometimes, understanding about Palden Lhamo can be a little confusing for someone from an Indian Hindu background as she is also known as Shri Devi, which is a name for Lakshmi in Hinduism. Actually the goddess Lakshmi also exists in Tibetan Buddhism, where her name is Pel Lhamo. Palden Lhamo/Kalidevi is a very powerful Dharma Protector. Tsem Rinpoche has a close connection to Palden Lhamo from a very young age. I hope this helps your understanding. And thank you for your suggestion. They Buddhas do help us in amazing ways. pastor answered: Dear Khang, Thanks for your question. In relation to this, we should clarify that there are two types of sang that are listed in various articles on our website. The first is the "Sang Offering" to Dorje Shugden. This is specifically an offering of smoke. The details are provided here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/incense-offering-to-dorje-shugden.html This is a specific offering. So if you are using sang to do something else, you will need to do it separately from the sang offering. The second is the "Cleansing Sang", which is using sang to clear a specific area, your home for example, from negative energies and to bring positive energies into the area. This is not considered an offering (although when you do some of the associated visualisations, you are treat it like one). The main purpose of this is actually cleansing. The mechanism that makes the cleansing sang work is actually the burning of Protector Rice. It is not an offering because the sang is a vehicle that you are using to release the energies of the Protector rice. That is why you don't offer any sang offering prayers during this. Similarly this would be done separately from a sang offering. As outlined in this article: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/one-minute-story/stories-from-a-chela-cleansing-sang-visualisations using Ucchusma's mantra for cleansing sang is way to purify negative karma and obscurations internally by breathing in the smoke sang that has protector rice already burning. In this case, you are coupling the energies of the Dharma Protector (through the burning rice), with the purification mantra of Ucchusma for double effect. I hope this helps to answer your questions.

If this is not feasible due to various circumstances, you can use an electronic counter. For reciting mantras during personal practice, these are not recited too loud. In fact, they are recited softly. If a person was nearby they would not actually be able to hear what you are reciting. There are different ways to chant mantras according to different religious paths. In Tibetan Buddhism, they are not chanted loudly during personal practice. They are recited just loud enough for you to hear the mantra, but if someone was next to you, they would not be able to hear what you are citing. In Buddhism, we have daily practices. When doing these it is proper to do the practices sitting down, fully focused on the practice and not engaged in other activities. When not engaged in daily practice, you can of course recite mantras while doing normal daily activities such as walking, working etc. As long as it does not disturb anyone else. pastor answered: Dear Mat, Thanks for your question. You do not need a transmission, empowerment or initiation to recite Vajrapani's mantra. Within the Gelug lineage as taught by Tsem Rinpoche the mantra is pronounced as "OM BENZAPANI HUNG". You can start reciting the mantra, no problem. In order to create to a strong connection with Vajrapani, you should recite the mantra daily with consistency. Vajrapani is considered the Buddha of Skillful Means or the embodiment of the power of the enlightened beings. His practice is excellent. Known as Chagna Dorje in Tibetan, Vajrapani’s name literally means “Holder of the Vajra”. He is wrathful, appearing in the form of a yaksha being. With his right leg bent and left outstretched, he stands in pratyalidha posture. He holds a golden five-pointed vajra in his right hand and with his left hand held in front of his heart, he makes a threatening gesture at our delusions and negative karma. Vajrapani is also known as the Lord of Secrets and he bestows practitioners with a special aptitude to practise Tantra. He is well-known to pacify inner and outer maras. Inner maras are delusions and the self-grasping mind while outer maras refer to malevolent spirits and obstructing beings. If you would like to pray to Vajrapani, or any deity, to create a closer connection with them and to benefit from their energies, it is advisable to set up a small shrine to them and make offerings daily, according to your means. pastor answered: Hi Bhavisha didi, Nice to see you back here. Can you share the video and the timestamp that Rinpoche said this? There must be a wider context in which Rinpoche said this. We can check properly and get back to you. In general however, I can think of a couple of reasons. The first is that in order to achieve complete enlightenment, we need to put in effort from our own side. It cannot be achieved solely on the reliance of a deity in the external sense. You must achieve the state of the deity through internalising the Dharma and transforming your mind through the teachings, developing Bodhicitta, etc. The second could be that in order to achieve enlightenment in the shortest time possible, one would need to rely on the practice of a Highest Yoga Tantric deity. In our lineage, we rely on Manjushri a lot, but in different forms. For example there is a saying in our lineage that our Guru is Manjushri (in the form of Lama Tsongkhapa), our Yidam is Manjushri (in the form of Manjushri or Yamantaka as a higher tantric deity), and our Protector is Manjushri (in the form of Dorje Shugden or Kalarupa). Manjushri is definitely important, so there should be a wider context in which Rinpoche was explaining that Manjushri helps 'temporarily.' Hope that helps and looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

naina asked: great pastor, i have complited 100000 short or essense mantra of vajrasttva. but i was not satisfied with myself. so, i stared long mantra. each day i can do one mala as i am housewife cant give more time; in that way it will take 3 to 4 years to complete 100000 mantra. now my inner condition is unbearable, its really painful. i am still holding tight. we are planning child and my husband cant wait more, he is not buddhist. he waited for so long. now i am afraid child is going to feel all what i am feeling. what should i do?is there anyway .i dont understand. i dont wanna quit the purification process. the inside numbness and emotionless state i am feeling i dont want anyone to feel. show me the way so i can complete the process.
pastor answered: Dear Naina, Thank you for your question. When engaged in prolonged practice, especially something like reaching a certain number of mantras over a period of time, we can definitely experience a lot of purification of karma. This is especially so when engaged in the practice of Vajrasattva or other specific purification practices. As you embark on this journey with your husband, please don't be afraid that your child will feel what you are feeling due to the purification. Here are some things that you can do to help: 1. Reduce the amount of mantras you are doing daily. Even though it will take a longer time to complete, it will make things more managable for you. When engaged in such long periods of practice, people think it is better to finish it as quickly as possible. This is true for people living a monastic lifestyle, but as a lay person, remember that you have other responsibilities. So take things slow. Slow and steady wins the race as they say. Doing too much will not make your practice stronger, but it will have an effect in other areas of your life. 2. Engage in Protector practice. One of the specific benefits of Dharma Protector practice is to reduce the effects of purification that you feel. You can engage in the practice or Dorje Shugden or any other enlightened Dharma protector that you feel an affinity for. This is mentioned specifically in scripture. 4. If the feeling of numbness or emotionlessness is too strong, you can also seek professional medical help for example by seeing a therapist. There is nothing wrong with this at all. 5. If you have a guru-disciple relationship with a guru, you can ask them for more specific advice. I hope this helps. Thank you.

pastor answered: Dear Barbara, Karmic debt numbers represent aspects of yourself that you need to face and work on in this life. These aspects come from decisions and actions that you have made in previous lives that have an impact in this life for your spiritual growth. According to numerology, having a karmic debt number of "0" doesn't mean that you don't have any karma. It means that rather than having a specific karmically caused aspect that you need to deal with, you actually have to manifest your ability/potential for change in a positive direction. Find something that you are passionate about that helps others, and go all the way with it. For example, Mahatma Gandhi had a karmic debt number of "0" but he ended up being part of the freedom movement in India, which ultimately changed the course of the entire Indian sub-continent. From a Buddhist aspect, it could be explained as you having no overtly powerful habitual karmic aspect that has opened in this birth. For example, you don't have overly powerful habitual patterns of jealousy or lust. You do have these of course, but they are not so strong in shaping your actions as if you had another karmic debt number. For those people, they would really need to work on such emotions deeply in order to overcome negative situations in life. I hope this explanation helps.
