So I'm a practicing buddhist and homosexual and I also recently got the chakrasamvara empowerment from Kensur Lobsang Tsephel rinpoche. During the actual self generation when mother and father join it is usually in the context of a straight or heterosexual union this of course is used to combat the demon of desire and all that other good stuff. But since i'm a homosexual and a man would it not be logical to visualize Vajrayogini as a man in order to gain the same benefits and experiences of regular practitioners… Accodering to the chapter 25 of Damchö Pema Karpo'i do/ དམ་ཆོས་པད་མ་དཀར་པོའི་མདོit says that

"Bodhisattva Inexhaustible Intent said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One, Bodhisattva Perceiver of the World's Sounds– how does he come and go in this saha world? How does he preach the Law for the sake of living beings? How does the power of expedient means apply in this case?"

The Buddha said to Bodhisattva Inexhaustible Intent: "Good man, if there are living beings in the land who need someone in the body of a Buddha in order to be saved, Bodhisattva Perceiver of the World's Sounds immediately manifests himself in a Buddha body and preaches the Law for them. If they need someone in a pratyekabuddha's body in order to be saved, immediately he manifests a pratyekabuddha's body and preaches the Law to them. If the need a voice-hearer to be saved, immediately he becomes a voice-hearer and preaches the Law for them. If they need King Brahma to be saved, immediately he becomes King Brahma and preaches the Law for them. If they need the lord Shakra to be saved, immediately he becomes the lord Shakra and preaches the Law for them. If they need the heavenly beiang Freedom to be saved, immediately he becomes the heavenly being Freedom and preaches the Law for them. If they need a great general of heaven to be saved, immediately he becomes a great general of heaven and preaches the Law for them. If they need Vaishravana to be saved, immediately he becomes Vaishravana and preaches the Law for them. If they need a petty king to be saved, immediately he becomes a petty king and preaches the law for them.

If they need a rich man to be saved, immediately he becomes a rich man and preaches the Law for them. If they need a householder to be saved, immediately he becomes a householder and preaches the Law for them. If they need a chief minister to be saved, immediately he becomes a chief minister and preaches the Law for them. If they need a Brahman to be saved, immediately he becomes a Brahman and preaches the Law for them. If they need a monk, a nun, a layman believer, or a laywoman believer and preaches the Law for them. If they need the wife of a rich man, of a householder, a chief minister, or a Brahman to be saved, immediately he becomes those wives and preaches the Law for them. If they need a young boy or a young girl and preaches the Law for them. If they need a heavenly being, a dragon, a yaksha, a gandharva, an asura, a garuda, a kimnara, a mahoraga, a human or a nonhuman being to be saved, immediately he becomes all of these and preaches the Law for them. If they need a vajra-bearing god and preaches the Law for them." So based on this very fact does it not make sense it practice in this way…. similarly according to the Chakrasmavara tantra there is a practice of the donkey headed chakrasamvara and vajrayogini is this not used to combat "other desires" (please read in between the lines).

    Dear Jake,
    I am not qualified to instruct you on highest tantric practices but I do know that the visualization of the father-mother Heruka in union is a method towards gaining realization. It does not mean you have to be ‘pre-disposed’ towards heterosexual acts in order to reap the benefit. The visualization also does not alter your preference in any way.

    Since the visualization has been taught by highly attained beings based on their own visionary experiences and that it had brought results for many great masters and practitioners, I would advice you not to alter it. Yes, you quote an explanation about how enlightened beings can appear in ways that suit the sentient being. But you do not have the attainments to change the instructions at this point. So, I would advice you to stick to the instructions given by your teacher as there is a purpose in doing so. I hope this helps you. Thank you.

    Thank you for your question. It is very good to read that you want to get closer to your yidam. While engaging in your sadhana every day is a very important part of getting closer to you Yidam, it actually means you also practice the Dharma and transform your mind. What it means to be close to a yidam is that you develop the beneficial qualities that the Buddhas show us, such as compassion, kindness, love, perseverance, wisdom, etc. Therefore it is about changing our minds so that we become better people.

Homage to the root lama who is the unified essence of the inner and outer triple gems. He who is one with the Buddha the dharma and sangha. He who encompasses the root of all blessings of the lineage masters. He who is one with the yidam and thus the root of accomplishments. He whose actions are the life breath of the Khandroma and therefore the root of enlightened activities of the thus gone ones.

Homage the holy root lama whose wisdom is like that of a shining sword which cuts through the darkness and filth of samsara. By his razor-like wisdom, all chain of gold and black iron are broken, and the prison doors of cyclic existence are smashed asunder. Homage to the holy master who holds the perfection of wisdom close to his heart. Oh holy lama by your wisdom and guidance, may wisdom, logic, meditation, and understanding increase in those who are under your care.

Homage the holy root lama whose compassion is uncontested, who holds all sentient beings like a mother holding her child, may we always abide and sit at your knee, continuously receiving the holy dharma. Oh, holy lama whose compassion is stainless like a white lotus by your example may we too develop unstained compassion. Homage the holy root lama whose immutable power, merit and sadhana cause the most pervasive and malignant outer, inner and secret obstacles to be entirely eradicated at the root. Oh, unassailable holder of the vajra, whose blazing thunderbolt smashes into dust-motes the body and speech of all of hindering foes, by your force and power may all outer, inner and secret enemies who torment us pupils and attendants never succeed. Great master of skillful means, whose actions tame even the most difficult of minds, please remain with us.

Noble (lo) pandit whose body, speech and mind (sang ) radiate great (dam) compassion and wisdom, may you continually spread the dharma (choe). May all hindering spirits who harm us, obstructive conditions, and in short, every enduring inauspiciousness, be purified through your four actions of peace, increase, subjugation and destruction. Above all, may auspiciousness endure and may all those you come in contact with being guided through the ten stages of the bodhisattva.

The above praise mentions breaking the chains of gold and black iron, what does this mean?

    Dear Jason Chau,

    Thank you for your question. It is a very interesting one. Within Buddhism there is a common metaphor of describing samsara or cyclic existence as chains that we are bound by. Usually these chains are described in negative terms. The above prayer is special because it describes these chains are both gold and black iron.

    Gold is obviously something that people desire, and in this case stands for everything that is desirable, and pleasurable. Black iron on the other hand was used to create chains and iron bars which were used in prison, therefore it symbolises suffering.

    Therefore, in this prayer the meaning to break the gold chains and black iron chains means that the lama is the one who shows you how to overcome both the desire for all you crave for and all the hate and are repulsed by. They are known as the two extremes of samsara, and in effect is highlighting that it is the lama that shows you the middle way path as taught by the Buddha, which can lead you to enlightenment.     It’s interesting that you ask me this question. I have met several people with similar circumstances and I have recommended the practice of Dorje Shugden. They have all read up and recited the praise and mantra daily. And they have reported to me that their situation has improved.

    Before reciting the mantra, I recommend that you recite Dorje Shugden’s prayer and you can find it here – https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/a-short-prayer-to-dorje-shugden.html . Dorje Shugden’s mantra is *Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha* and I have asked these people to recite 108x or more daily. That is a the length of 1 round of the Buddhist prayer beads. The blessings of Dorje Shugden come swifter when you recite more and on a consistent basis. I recommend this for your current situation. How fast Dorje Shugden helps you depends on how much karma you need to purify and accumulation of merits through the recitation of Dorje Shugden’s mantra.

    Although our original state of mind is pure awareness, clarity and wisdom but lifetimes of negative karma obstructs us from realising this natural state of our mind. Hence, the Buddha who is ‘awakened’ to his original mind also realized that sentient beings need to be pointed the path towards awakening.     It’s nice to see you back here. I’m sorry to read about the fatigue. Meditation can help in certain situations, but i don’t think you should meditate on the fatigue itself. Rather you can use the breath as the method of meditation.     If you familiar with deity practices or daily sadhana, you can actually use practices such as the Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa as the method of meditation, and focus on the recitation of the Mig Tse Ma mantra. You use the mantra and focus on it instead of the breath. This is very powerful because you not only meditate but you are invoking the energies of Lama Tsongkhapa, which are extremely powerful for helping to calm the mind and also to heal the body.     Thank you for your question, unfortunately I do not fully understand it. As Buddhists, I have not come across mention that we must pray nine times a day. However, it does say in the scriptures and prayers that Buddhists should take refuge in the Three Jewels – the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, three times during the day and three times during the night.

So, I managed to find a Sakyapa text that actually propagates Shugden as a protector, or how it says Srungma of the Sakyas. However, I noticed that Za Rahula's emanations are part of Shugden's retinue. What does this mean(and hopefully, this text is helpful):

    Thank you for your question. Za Rahula and his emanations are oath-bound deities that are unenlightened. However, according to this text they are part of Dorje Shugden’s retinue. This does not have a meaning in the sense of changing the status of either Dorje Shugden as enlightened being or Rahula being an enlightened being. Many Dharma protectors have their main forms, emanations, retinue who are their emanations, but their retinue can also include unenlightened oath-bound protectors such as Rahula. This is because these oath-bound deities try to assist the enlightened beings in whichever way they can. And one way is to accompany the retinue of enlightened Dharma protectors and aid them in their work. If you read the longer prayers of any Dharma protector, they usually mention these types of beings. It is not uncommon to read about them in the practices of enlightened Dharma protectors.

    Another quick example is of the 12 Tenma goddesses who were bound by Guru Rinpoche in Tibet but are often considered to be part of the enlightened Palden Lhamo’s retinue as well. In this way they help Palden Lhamo in her work to remove people’s obstacles. So in the case of the source you have mentioned, Za Rahula’s emanat’ons aid Dorje Shugden’s retinue in their work, not because they need help but because they are bound by oath to protect and serve those who are practicing the Buddhist path.     There are many benefits to engaging in 16 arhat puja including averting obstacles, purification of negative karma, accumulation of merits, creating the cause to uphold morality, creating the cause for the sangha community to increase and so forth.     Thank you for your question. Yes, when you do the Vajrayogini Tea offering you can use a Serkym Set and Tea pot.

    For this offering, you can follow the standard procedure of offering Serkym to the Dharma protectors. Here is a video that explains how to offer Serkym to Dorje Shugden:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6ybkXO4R2k. In the case of the Vajrayogini tea offering, you would pour the tea when it says to recite “I offer”, you pour the tea at the of that line. Then you fill it to the brim or finish pouring. Alternative you fill the tea in the container to the brim at the beginning, and then recite the liturgy. Either way is acceptable.

    However, it is not necessary to have a Serkym set for this offering. Any container, such as a glass or bowl may be used. But it should only be used for this purpose on your altar, and not used for anything else. If possible you should get an offering container that is the best you can afford, as it is an offering to Vajrayogini.     After you have finished your prayers, or are clearing your offerings at the end of the day, you can dispose of the tea in a respectful manner. If you have a garden you can pour the tea outside in a clear and tidy area of the plants or grass. If you have nowhere to dispose of the tea outside, you can dispose of the tea respectfully in a sink, but definitely not the bathroom sink. I hope this helps.

What is the difference between an incarnation and an emanation? Also, is an emanation a child of the deity, or a form of the deity that is one and the same as the deity? Or is it a clone of the deity?

    Dear Curious,
    With regards to deities that are enlightened beings, they are said to have the ‘power of emanation’, according to the King of Prayers. This means they can have multiple emanations simultaneously. These emanations are directed by the aspiration of the enlightened beings and can have very different appearance, character and purpose. In the scriptures, they are said to sometimes emanate as inanimate objects, teachers, students and even non-Buddhist teachers to guide and benefit sentient beings according to their mental dispositions. Hence, you will find the Bodhisattva Manjushri emanating as Lama Tsongkhapa and simultaneously as the devoted student, Dulzin Drakpa Gyeltsen as well.

    On the other hand, incarnation refers to a particular emanation of the enlightened being that has chosen to reincarnate again and again. The emanation of Manjushri, Dulzin Drakpa Gyeltsen had reincarnated as Panchen Sonam Drakpa. Hence, Panchen Sonam Drakpa is the incarnation of Dulzin Drakpa Gyeltsen. Due to high realizations of some High Lamas, they tend to have many emanations take rebirth simultaneously when they pass away. Hence, students would usually look for the ‘mind emanation’ and enthrone him as the incarnation of the lama.

    Finally, emanations are not children or clones of enlightened beings. This is because they tend to take on different characteristics in each emanation based on the previous lives aspirations and according to the needs and karma of the beings they need to teach and benefit in that lifetime. One very common analogy would be a bucket of water is the deity and the water is poured into various vessels and cups. Each vessel and cup looks completely different but the contents is the same. So each vessel and cup would be the various emanation but the contents remain the same, which is water and that represents the mind. I hope this explanation helps you understand. Thank you.

Why does Rinpoche say that continuation is very important for prostration practice? Like not breaking a day etc.

And does short prostrations count? Can I do 3 short prostrations at the start of each day just so I don't break a day? Because I am not always sure if I can set up my kitchen for the long prostrations every day.

    Dear Eric,

    Thank you for your question. What rinpoche was talking about with regards to having continuity is engaging in a Prostration retreat and that means we have set out to engage in an intensive prostration retreat for a set period of time. However, there are days we could be busy, the minimum of 3 prostrations along with the necessary recitations is permitted without breaking the retreat.

    On the other hand, Rinpoche could also be referring to prostration practice as a daily sadhana or practice and that would mean engaging in the practice every single day without fail in order to reap the benefits of this purification practice.

    With regards to 3 short prostrations, it is good that we do so daily especially before our sadhana – daily prayers and mantra recitations. But if we are serious about engaging in the prostration practice, it is recommended that we engage in the full length prostration and do more than 3 prostrations a day. When I do the generation stage of chakrasamvara in particular the melting of the drops to engage in the generation of the 4 joys (joy. Supreme joy，special joy, and innate joy) I get a very painful migraine when I do it… this is an essential practice and it is said that we should engage in the practice when we do the self generation…. what am I doing wrong…. I’m using the commentary and my lama has said I should rely on the commentary… he is currently quite busy and I have requested instructions but he has many things to do …. should I continue

    Dear Lobsang,

    Thank you for your question. I am very happy to read that you practicing Heruka Chakrasamvara. It is an amazing practice which will have a tremendous impact in your life and spiritual journey if you practice sincerely, with effort, keeping your vows and commitments. I have consulted His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche on this matter, and below is the advice that was given.

    In the generation stage of Heruka Chakrasamvara, once must accomplish the generation stage fully in order to accomplish the completion stage. This means that without finishing the generation stage properly, if we engage in the completion stage there will be no results except the collection of merit. During the generation stage, there are certain parts that can create some form of physical ailment in us. If this happens, we engage in the practice, we do not need to focus on this section in our meditations. Instead we can focus on other sections of the generation stage in order to generate more merit. This will lead to us being able to engage in the dissolution and the generation of the four joys in the future properly.

    When some people engage in their Heruka sadhanas, they do both the generation stage and the completion stage. The reason they do the completion stage is to become familiar with it, to become good at it, to become learned in it, and to keep up the practice so that they do not forget it. But even though they engage in the completion stage, they will not get many results except the generation of merit and planting imprints in their mindstreams because the generation stage is not completed.

    Though the generation of the four joys are extremely important, we do not need to focus on them at the moment if cause physical ailments. We can focus on other parts of the generation stage and in the meantime engage in ngondro, or preliminary practices such as Vajrasattva, Guru Yoga, prostrations, and mandala offerings in order to purify negative karma and generate merit. This is so that when we do the dissolution and also the generation of the four joys, we will not experience that type of obstacles again.

    Therefore, the generation of the four joys are definitely important, but if they are creating a physical ailment, we can put it aside for now and just read through the practice text. If we read through it, without meditating, we do not break our commitments. Let me reiterate, if we read through the section, without actually meditating on it, we do not break any of our commitments. I hope this helps you very much. Good luck with your practice. Thank you.

Dear pastors, some questions pop into my mind as i came across some photos of monk statues in thailand. In the 5 precepts, the last precept, one should not take intoxicant things. But i see some monks in thailand does smoke. And i thought that the monks vows should not eat meat. Again in thailand they do eat meat. Is it the theravada more open to the precepts than mahayana? What you think about they pray to Arhat Sivali as wealth deity where in buddhism, there are a lot of wealth deities (which are bodhisattvas themself)?

    Thank you for your question. In regards to the Five Precepts, you are correct that there is a vow against taking intoxicants. How this is interpreted and what constitutes intoxicants differs between traditions and individual practitioners. Buddhist practitioners usually follow what their teachers instruct them, as such for us in Kechara, we are encouraged not to smoke as it is an intoxicant. In regards to monks and nuns eating meat, someone who is ordained is supposed to eat whatever food is offered to them, to cut their attachment to like and dislike. Therefore, if someone offers a monk or nun meat, then they need to accept the food according to Buddhist tradition. After they have accepted the food offering, it is up to them to actually eat the meat or not. Some may eat the meat because they want to practice not being attached. In some of these cases, you will notices that these monks and nuns eat everything offered to them without either like or dislike. That being said, as Buddhists we believe in ahimsa or non-violence, and that extends to the killing of animals for food. So knowing that there is bad karma involved, it is actually on the lay people who offer the monastic community food, not to offer them meat. The precepts are the same between both Mahayana and Theravada traditions, but one must understand the intricacies of Buddhist practice before making an assumption if the practitioner is sincere.

    In the case of Arhat Sivali, as far as I am aware, he was a student of Shariputra, who was one of Buddha Shakyamuni’s main disciples. After practicing the path Sivali became and Arhat and is therefore worthy of veneration as a very high level being on the way to becoming a fully enlightened being. Such beings do have the power and ability to help grant wealth in all if forms, which is more than just materials. You are right that there are many deities who are said to confer wealth upon practitioners. Some of these deities are not actually emanations of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, but beings who either naturally help people or have been oath-bound to help people. Others are fully enlightened beings such as Dzambala and Gyenze, and can help with more than wealth, such as helping us on the spiritual path towards enlightenment. I hope this helps. Thank you.

catholic , jews and other religions believe that God created the world, the first story of creation, he created the heavens and earth then God said Let there be light and there was light then separated light from darkness etc etc etc .So my question is do Buddhist believe in God .He created everything and every one including Buddhas and Buddha Shakyamuni etc. but I don't hear or see it talking about God. can you help why Tsem Rinpoche don't talk about God maybe im wrong

    Dear Al,

    Thank you for your question. Buddhists do not believe in a creator God, we do not believe in an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God as other religions do. This is because Buddhists consider all beings that are within existence to be bound by the law of karma, and as such full of emotions and delusions. Existence is cyclic, with no beginning or end, where as other religions believe that God created the universe, therefore it has a beginning. As such, Buddhists do not believe that such a God created the Buddhas, etc. The Buddha arose from his own realisation of the nature of existence, as can we all arise in that state. When we reach that state, known as enlightenment, we transcend existence itself. That is the reason why Tsem Rinpoche does not talk about God, because Buddhists do not believe in such a God, but rather the transformation of our own minds to reach enlightenment. I hope this helps. Combining the responsibilities of the ordained and the appearance of a layperson, pastors are the connection between the sangha and the everyday practitioner. They are ordinary people who have taken an extraordinary step in dedicating their lives towards sharing the Buddhist tradition. As laypeople holding vows, pastors will make the Dharma accessible to more people, giving them guidance and sharing knowledge. Pastor Chia (sangha to be)

As a pastor, Chia will dedicate his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

Ordained as a Pastor in 2011, Chia Song Peng has had a rich and varied Dharma career. He has held a core position with the Kechara Paradise retail outlets, served as a personal attendant to Tsem Rinpoche, embarked on various pilgrimages and received initiations into higher yoga tantric practices. He is accomplished in many pujas and has a deep understanding of the Dharma.

As a pastor, Chia has dedicated his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

When Chia first met Tsem Rinpoche, he was asked if he wanted to become a monk, however even though this was his aspiration he informed Tsem Rinpoche that he would do so at a later date. For Chia, as he has is already in the Dharma full-time, it would be best if he became ordained. Tsem Rinpoche has reminded Chia from time to time to work towards becoming a monk and he promised that he would do so in the future.

Kechara began from nothing to become a growing Dharma organisation with major projects such as Kechara Forest Retreat, so Chia thinks that this is the perfect time to become ordained as a monk. Recently Tsem Rinpoche asked Chia again if he would like to be ordained, this time Chia said yes.

Pastor Khong Jean Ai (sangha to be)

Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings.

Jean Ai met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche as a young child and through her parents' involvement with Kechara over the years, she has never known a life without His Eminence. Jean Ai was a regular volunteer of Tsem Ladrang during her childhood and teenage years. After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Warwick in the UK and working at the London Probation Service, she returned to Kuala Lumpur to join Tsem Ladrang's e-division. There she managed kechara.com, responsible for the weekly Kechara e-newsletter, including content generation and editing. Since then she has joined His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s writing team, responsible for executing Rinpoche’s personal instructions and managing his correspondence.

Having visited a nunnery in India in 2004, Jean Ai remembers noticing how happy and purposeful everyone was. She had a feeling of familiarity and the sight of the robes comforted her. Immediately, Jean Ai messaged her mother who told her to ask Rinpoche’s advice. Rinpoche told her to complete her secular education so that when she taught the Dharma her words would carry the credibility and weight of a university degree, something she completed with the motivation that some day she wanted to become a nun.

Through her ordination as a nun, Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings. Through this she hopes to repay the kindness of her parents and her Guru. Above all she wants to abide in a state free of suffering, and she wants this for others as well.

Pastor Shin Tan (sangha to be)

For Shin, this is a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Before joining Kechara, Shin worked as a lecturer and provider of content and e-learning content solutions for various start-ups. Whilst providing training to educators teaching students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at various colleges, she was invited to attend a Dharma talk given by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at Kechara House. This event rekindled her interest in Tibetan Buddhism, as she recalled the joy of accompanying her parents to teachings as a teenager.

Joining Kechara Media & Publications in 2006 as a volunteer, Shin assumed a full time position there as a Marketing Executive, with the aim of making His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings available to more people around the world. Shin is now a member of the Tsem Ladrang Team, who takes care of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s secular matters, enabling Rinpoche to focus on teaching the holy Dharma.

Shin states that when she decided to join Kechara full time, she had already decided to be of some benefit to others and spend the rest of her life doing only that. Working closely with His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, seeing his tireless effort in helping others and spreading the Buddhadharma through the Gaden tradition despite tremendous challenges has made her realise that the next logical step is to become ordained as she has the opportune conditions to study with her Guru. For Shin this is also a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Pastor Adeline Woon (sangha to be)

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission and wishes to dedicate herself fully towards the benefit of others.

Adeline stumbled across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche's blog towards the end of 2010 and has been following his blog and Facebook page ever since. Since graduating from Dharma Drum Buddhist College Taiwan with a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies in July 2012, she returned to Malaysia and joined Kechara as a Senior Education Executive. Adeline was attracted by His Eminence’s straightforwardness and impressed at Kechara's growth under his guidance. To Adeline, His Eminence is someone who walks the talk, keeps his promises and sincerely cares for others displaying an excellent example of guru devotion, qualities that she seeks to develop herself.

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission. It was in May 2013 that she officially requested His Eminence for ordination as a nun to dedicate her life fully for the dharma. According to Adeline, become ordained means that she is being true to her calling to live according to the dharma and be of benefit to others.

This however can only be achieved by meeting and studying under her root Guru. Adeline has been fortunate enough to have met with hers - His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.

Pastor Niral Patel (sangha to be)

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Niral was born and raised in the UK, having graduated with a BA in Anthropology, he was working as a Financial Administrator for a Serviced Apartment & Hotel company as well as a Management Services company before stumbling across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s Youtube channel, entirelyby accident. It was through His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings that he began to understand the importance of practicing the Dharma, in order to benefit himself and others around him.

Having been in contact with one of Tsem Rinpoche’s long time students in the UK, he was encouraged to visit Kechara in late 2012 for a 10 day visit. At the end of the visit Tsem Rinpoche requested Niral to come to work at Kechara, to which he agreed.

Niral moved to Malaysia in February 2013 to work as an education coordinator at Kechara House, assisting the Education Division in the creation and implementation of the new education syllabus, teaching teenagers during the Kechara Sunday Dharma School. Ever since meeting Tsem Rinpoche, he has always been encouraged by Tsem Rinpoche to do more Dharma work and strive to better himself. It is with that in mind, that Niral has requested monastic ordination.

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Pastor Tan Gim Lee (sangha to be)

Gim Lee’s main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara’s doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche’s kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa’s holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

She discovered Kechara by chance in 2006 and started to participate Kechara's activities almost immediately especially the retreat to collect 10 million Migtsema recitations. In April 2006, when Gim Lee met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and first listened to his teachings, she wept uncontrollably. Though she could not understand it at the time, she had finally found her perfect teacher. She is especially touched by Tsem Rinpoche's compassionate method of teaching by setting his own examples.

Having joined as a staff of Kechara House responsible for housekeeping in 2009, Gim Lee is now one of Kechara House's Front Desk Managers predominantly based in the retreat centre in Bentong, Pahang. She also teaches the Sunday Dharma Class and moderates Dharma discussions on Tsem Rinpoche's blog chat.

The many teachings she has received from Tsem Rinpoche have changed her priorities in life. She found answers to her questions about the purpose of life, and she has realised that the way to overcome the sufferings of pain and anger is by following the path of compassion and wisdom as taught by Lord Buddha. These realisations have led to her request to be ordained as a Sangha member.

As pastor now, and later as a Buddhist nun, Gim Lee's main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara's doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. Pastor Loh Seng Piow (sangha to be)

Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Back in 2001, Loh Seng Piow had no inkling of just how involved in Dharma he would become. As a Masters degree-holder in Engineering, Loh Seng Piow was working as a research engineer in Singapore when he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s talk left a strong impression on him and after a few encounters with Rinpoche, Loh Seng Piow started developing websites for Rinpoche and Kechara.

Loh Seng Piow was trained in science, but soon realised that there were many questions that science could not answer. At the same time, he also felt that science and technology are not the solution to human problems, as humans are much better off compared to thousands years ago, yet the problems in this world are still the same, if not more, and we do not seem to be happier than our ancestors.

Loh Seng Piow soon realised that the Dharma is the ultimate solution to human problems, and that the methods used by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche are very suitable for this modern era. Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Meeting Rinpoche was a very refreshing experience for Loh Seng Piow, as he never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. As Rinpoche’s personal attendant, Loh Seng Piow has had many incredible moments with Rinpoche and considers himself extremely fortunate because he sees real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. It challenges him to practice Dharma 24/7. In this way, Rinpoche has blown away his old and persistent way of thinking, which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Having seen that Tsem Rinpoche truly embodies what he teaches, Loh Seng Piow is convinced beyond doubt that it is possible to develop our minds to a higher state, and ultimately achieving enlightenment. All these factors have propelled Loh Seng Piow to take a step further in his Dharma career to become ordained as a pastor in order to be even more effective in sharing and disseminating the Dharma to benefit others.

Pastor Yek Yee

Naturally an introvert, Yek Yee has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

Independence was forced upon Kok Yek Yee from the tender age of nine, when she had to juggle between work and school to make ends meet. Always the introvert, Yek Yee had few friends and had difficulty expressing herself. So it was unexpected when she chose a career in journalism.

Yek Yee excelled as an award-winning reporter with Guang Ming Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau. Her articles garnered her a fanbase, and in writing, she found an outlet for the thoughts and feelings that she could not verbalise. However, despite her success, Yek Yee was not satisfied. Temporary happiness was not what she was looking for – success, money, relationships, or fame was not the key.

In her search for happiness, Yek Yee met H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, who told her “don’t retaliate with your speech, but use your power of writing to express yourself”. This led her to join Kechara Media & Publications as a writer; subsequently she was appointed Senior Editor as well as a Liaison to His Eminence.

Yek Yee now holds a core role in Kechara Care, giving advice, tours, counseling and teachings to whoever walks through their doors. Through courage and determination, she has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

As a Pastor, her patience and open-mindedness developed through her journey with Kechara will bring comfort and solace, and her new-found ability to nurture and teach others will bring hope to many.

Pastor Lanse Chiah

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Lanse graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China in 1999 and became a part-time lecturer for several years, teaching western medicine in a Traditional Chinese medical college in Kuala Lumpur.

For a long time, Lanse remained an atheist, subconsciously searching for a spiritual guru as she sought answers to questions she harboured in her mind, questions that had led her into a state of depression during her time at university. As such, she would often read philosophical books in her search for answers.

Lanse first came to know of Kechara in 2007, through her friend of over 10 years, Pastor Yek Yee. She was surprised to see a complete transformation in Pastor Yek Yee, whom she had always known as a non-spiritual person. The first book by Kechara that Lanse chanced upon was the Chinese version of Be Greedy. Naturally, Lanse was skeptical at first, thus she read the book in an attempt to find mistakes with the philosophy. However, she couldn’t find any and was left impressed by how logical the explanations in the book were.

In March 2009, Lanse joined Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) part-time to carry out Chinese translation and help with transcription. The following year, she contemplated upon whether to pursue a full-time medical or a Dharma career, finally deciding on the latter. Lanse came to realise that, although both careers share the same motivation of easing people’s sufferings, she felt that her work in Dharma could lead to a greater contribution for the sake of all sentient beings in a deeper, spiritual sense.

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Pastor Han Nee

It was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

Lim Han Nee, a mother of two, is a retired secondary school principal. She retired in December 2000 after a 30-year career in education. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education at Leicester University in the UK, at the end of 2001.

After gaining her master’s degree, Han Nee considered further options of embarking on a doctorate in education or spending her years in retirement, travelling and visiting family. At the same time, she was also in search of her spiritual path. She had begun exploring Theravadan and Chinese Mahayana Buddhism for answers to questions she had.

In December 2004, Han Nee attended a teaching retreat on the topic of the Lamrim and White Tara held by His Eminence Gelek Rinpoche. As the retreat proceeded, she found her questions were being answered. Then in June 2005, Han Nee was introduced to Kechara by her sister, where she met her spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who has recently told her that she must go all the way in the Dharma for the benefit of others.

Han Nee had been a school guidance counsellor for nearly twenty years. However, it was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

A member of Kechara’s Puja Team, who conduct sponsored pujas in Shabten Khang, Han Nee is also a member of the Education Division with the portfolio of Content Development. Apart from this, Han Nee is also a member of the weekly Kechara Chat Time team.

Pastor David Lai

In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

David Lai has been a student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche for over a decade now and was one of the founding members of Kechara. He joined Kechara as a full time staff in 2005 and has been working in various departments beginning with the Kechara Paradise outlets.

Right from the beginning, David had been advised by His Eminence to go into writing. Overcoming various hurdles, David finally began his literary career with the publication of his first book and autobiography, There’s No Way But Up in 2009. The book charts his spiritual journey from his childhood and culminates in the meeting with His Eminence.

The positive feedback from this book led him to write various other publications like Vajrayogini and Other Power Places in Nepal – a pilgrim’s guide of Nepal, Tales My Lama Told Me – a book on short stories and Conversations in Love – a book on relationships. These books continue to inspire and bring people onto the Dharma.

Besides writing, David has found his passion in sharing the Dharma since his earlier days working in the Kechara Paradise outlets. Over the years, David has received innumerable teachings from His Eminence, ranging from public teachings to personal instructions and advice. He is known to passionately share these teachings whenever he can and to whomever he meets. In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

Pastor Henry Ooi

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public.

Born in 1952 in Penang, Henry moved to Kuala Lumpur in search of work after he finished his Form Five studies in 1969. He worked at different types of jobs and it was when he was jobless in 1997/8 that he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at the house of his cousin, Ruby (now Dato’ Ruby Khong), when Rinpoche was giving a dharma teaching. At that teaching Henry was awed by how Rinpoche taught Dharma with simple yet profound explanations.

With the kind guidance, teachings and Dharma practices by Rinpoche including instruction to engage in their first spiritual retreat, Henry and his wife Angel started a small business that soon became profitable. A few years later after Kechara House Buddhist Association was founded, Rinpoche started to enrol students as liaisons and that was when Henry and Dato’ Ruby offered themselves. Later more students were elected as liaisons that saw the birth of Liaisons Council. The Liaisons Council is now known as the Board of Directors of which Henry is one of its members.

Currently Henry is the Project Director, overseeing the construction and completion of projects in the Kechara Forest Retreat. Prior to this appointment he was the Head of Department in Kechara Paradise retail outlets of which he served for about ten years. He still remains as its company director as well as director for most of the companies within Kechara. He served one term as vice president of Kechara House Buddhist Association from 2012 to 2103.

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public. As he aspires to be a monk as he grows older, being a pastor of Kechara will pave the way for his aspiration. Henry believes that as one gets older in life, one should have already prepared for the imminent, death. And what a beautiful death it will be, to die in Kechara Forest Retreat in a monk’s robes. This is the kind of death that Henry wants. But before the imminent death happens, Henry wants to continue working in Kechara Forest Retreat, serving the community and whoever comes into it in whatever way he can. And when he is not physically anymore to serve others, he will request instructions from Rinpoche to enter into retreats in Kechara Forest Retreat.

Pastor Patsy Gooi

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work, dharma practices and being of benefit to others.

Formerly a full time housewife with plenty of free time, Patsy had the great fortune to visit Gaden Monastery and meet H.E. Tsem Rinpoche almost twenty years ago. That one week stay in the monastery changed her view of life. Prior to that, she had no spiritual inclinations but meeting Rinpoche stirred something inside her, and she realised that there was more to life than just eating, sleeping, shopping and having fun. Rinpoche’s approach to dharma was logical and practical but most importantly, he stressed that we should always focus out and work towards benefitting others. Rinpoche made dharma easy to understand and his advice was and still is, to “change inwardly, not outwardly.”

In 2009, after years of practicing and applying what she had learned from Rinpoche’s teachings, Patsy decided to set up a Kechara retail outlet in Penang to share the dharma with others. She knew that Rinpoche’s teachings were very applicable to the people of our time and that his activities would benefit others just as they had benefited her. She also wanted to repay the kindness of her Guru who had constantly helped and guided her. Today, Kechara Paradise Penang is not just a dharma shop but also organises puja sessions, animal liberation and dharma talks.

In 2010, again with Rinpoche’s blessings, Patsy set up the Kechara Soup Kitchen Activity Center in Penang. Saddened to see the plight of the homeless and urban poor on the streets, Patsy decided to practice “compassion through action” as taught by Rinpoche in the most active way she knows. Today, together with her team of volunteers, Patsy feeds the homeless and urban poor four times a week and provides basic food provisions to many hardcore poor families on a monthly basis.

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work and dharma practices, and that she may be of benefit to others.

Pastor Albert Ratchaga

In 2008, Albert Ratchaga began working as a part timer in Kechara Paradise, but as he learned more about the works of Rinpoche and Kechara, Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion touched him deeply. He realised that his work gave his life more meaning and decided to join Kechara full time.

Through his work as a sales executive, Albert was able learn more Dharma from Rinpoche's teachings and use this wisdom to assist those who entered his store to overcome their problems, thus improving their lives.

Albert soon developed a deep wish to follow in Rinpoche’s footsteps and in 2016 was ordained as a Pastor to continue benefitting and serving others.

    Wow…..800 White Tara statues been offered to HE Tsem Rinpoche from the Board of Directors in Kechara. Tsem Rinpoche kept 3 and the rest was offered to the monks in Shar Gaden Monastery back in 2013. That’s more beneficial and having arranged these statues shipped to India for the monks at the monastery on Rinpoche behalf. October 2014, Beng Kooi and her team of 5 people, along with 29 pilgrims had their first experience travelling to a monastic setting. Rejoice to them such a meaningful journey whereby they met with many high lamas and many old, holy monks. They did offered the White Tara statues, robes, books, food, drinks and many wonderful and beautiful pictures offerings to the monks. Looking at those pictures in this blog post tells more. Truly a great memories for them.

    Self-Arising Chenrezig”a statue believed to have manifested on its own, without human hands. It is a powerful symbol of the Bodhisattva of Compassion either in forms of male and female according to culture and the needs of society. There are many places where great enlightened beings and mahasiddhas who have practised shown miracles. Self-arisen images of the deities have manifested , the Phagpa Temple at Triloknath, Himachal Pradesh is one such place. The Trilokinath Temple is a sacred site in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, India, unique 8th-century temple for being revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple, located near the Chenab River and Udaipur, features a blend of architectural styles and religious elements from both faiths. Merely looking at this Self Arising Chenrezig statue is a blessing. This statue is extremely precious and we should make prostrations, offerings and prayers to it as much as possible. If given a chance of visiting this temple I would definitely love to. Well there is an interesting legend behind this Sacred Chenrezig Statue.

    Impermanence is important in Buddhism because it is a key to reducing suffering by helping practitioners let go of attachment to the transient nature of all things. Recognizing that everything we own, from material possessions to emotions and even life itself is temporary. From that point of view ,it encourages one to live in the present, develop resilience, and find inner peace. We have to except the fact we came to this whole with nothing ,goes with nothing. Recognizing and accepting impermanence is considered key to understanding and overcoming suffering. When we attach to things we perceive as permanent will leads us to disappointment and pain. The Buddha teaches that the path to peace and joy requires that we embrace change rather than pine for permanence. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this very precise post.

    Different religions and faiths have unique teachings ,and thwew is no right or wrong. All have their respective views of divinity, humanity’s relationship with the divine . Many faiths share common principles, like compassion and ethical conduct. All religions in the world teach us empathy, compassion, harmony and respect.
    Love peace harmony kindness balance of mind health body and spirit. Respect for all things. That’s true religion. They differ in practices and methods, but they ultimately lead to the same goal.

    Thank you H E Tsem Rinpoche and Pastor Seng Piow for creating this YouTube channel which has benefited many people all over the world. Great idea indeed where we learn , from the Dharma sharing. Pastor Seng Piow first started Rinpoche YouTube channel years ago back 2006. A very powerful Dharma talk and sharing by Tsem Rinpoche that covers a wide range of topics, and with Rinpoche explanation we could understand better. Kechara blog team has compiled a collection of videos, for us . It did help me to understand and learn more of Dharma through those videos. More to learn for me . Merely by listening to Rinpoche voice is a blessing.

    Sonam Tsemo, an important Tibetan sprititual leader and Buddhist scholar, and was acclaimed as an incarnation of Durjayachandra. He received extensive spiritual training from his father, deepened his studies under the famous scholar Chapa Chokyi Senge. By the time he was eighteen he had mastered the triple discipline of teaching, debate and composition. After his return to Sakya, he held the throne of the monastery for three years. He is the author of a famous commentary on the Bodhicharyavatara. He dedicated the rest of his life to studies and meditation. In 1182 he passed away age 41 into pure land of Sukhavati and said to have attained full Buddhahood.

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a Tibetan Buddhist a Gelug trained scholar and author of several Buddhist books. He has founded hundreds of Kadampa Buddhist Centres around the world. After spending his early years studying Buddha’s teachings in depth in the monasteries of Tibet, spending years in meditation retreat in the Himalayas . He has devoted tirelessly to giving teachings, composing books on Buddhism and Meditation. This humble Geshe has touched the hearts of countless people around the world. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s books are highly praised by many Lamas, one of them being His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Vajrayogini’s power is her ability to guide practitioners to enlightenment by transforming ordinary experiences, desire, and the ego into spiritual paths. Her form symbolizes the transformation of desire and ego into boundless empathy for all beings. Her practice aims to eradicate the ego, a root cause of suffering and attachment. In return which lead to a more vibrant, kind, and compassionate us.

    In Buddhism, holy relics are the sacred preserved cremated remains of the Buddha, and other enlightened beings. Holy relics are believed to carry the spiritual qualities, compassion, and wisdom of the enlightened being. And it serve as a powerful tool to connect practitioners with the Buddha’s path to enlightenment. Throughout history, relics have played an important role in major world religions and are considered to hold great spiritual significance. They are revered in Buddhist communities around the world. Sadly to these days only a handful of these sites exist today. These holy relic sites are rare. Many Buddhists make it a point to visit these precious relic sites . Merely by touching, seeing, and even thinking about relics can connect anyone with the spiritual power of the Buddha. Each relic is believed to carry a part of the Buddha’s essence, and worshipping them is seen as a way to connect with the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion. These sacred objects, often including bones, hair, robes, and so on are venerated through offerings and prayers, allowing Buddhists to connect with the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion and accumulate merit. Wow China had many holy sites which housed various relics of Buddha Shakyamuni. Just to mentioned some of these holy sites in Chiana such as Tooth relic at Lingguang Temple, Beijing,Grand True Relic Pagoda at Famen Temple, Shaanxi, Rare skull relic enshrined in Foding Palace, Nanjing and Buddha’s bone relic at Ayuwang Temple, Ningbo. Looking the beautiful relics temple and reading this article is a blessing. More so if we go on pilgrimages to these holy sites.

    Venerable Geshe Rabten Rinpoche was a prominent Tibetan scholar, yogi, poet, and meditation Master . He was a philosophical assistant to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and was instrumental in teaching Buddhism to Westerners. His life story is a classic example of intense spiritual practice, marked by significant hardship and transformation. He is beloved for his spiritual teachings, often in the form of poems, and for his complete dedication to the path of enlightenment. His teachings are known among several schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Geshe was the first Tibetan Buddhist master to introduce the complete Vinaya-tradition .Founded the , Rabten Choeling center for higher Tibetan studies at the lake of Geneva.

    It was through the 6th Panglung Oracle the Dalai Lama had a safe and successful escape from Tibet to India. That’s in 1959, following Dorje Shugden advice and instructions which route to escape. This story in comics form is a great way to let more people know the truth. Senior officials from Monastery eyewitness affidavits signed, they were the monks who travelled together with the Dalai Lama. All these cannot be wrong .A truth and only truth to be shared with.
