Rojal Poudel

are we allowed to eat garlic and onion?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Rojal Poudel,

Yes, on an every day level Tibetan Buddhist can and do eat garlic and onion.

It is only when in the retreat of or when practising intense sadhana of a lower tantric deity, that certain foods are not eating. For higher tantric practices, there are no such restrictions. During certain pujas also, deitery restrictions apply. It is dependant on the practice.

However, in general we can eat these foods.

Garlic and onions are part of what are known as ‘Black Foods’. These foods are not eaten during retreats of lower tantric deities and certain pujas as mentioned above.

Such foods include meat, fish, seafood, eggs, milk & dairy products, onion, garlic, alcohol, radish, pungent/strong-smelling foods such as leeks, shallots, chives, durians and petai (stink bean).

There is a different reason why each of these foods are not consumed during certain practices. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Hi pastor
Can you recommend a practice for me?? I don’t know which practice good for myself. Thanks !

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Da Wei,

There are many, many different types of practices. We have a page dedicated to various practices here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/category/prayers-and-sadhanas.

As a general practice in Kechara, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche has however, recommended the Diamond Path sadhana to be done daily. This is the combined practice of Lama Tsongkhapa and Dorje Shugden. You can find this practice here: https://www.vajrasecrets.com/products/diamond-path

Thank you and i hope this helps.

Jana

Hello pastor, I am a gay man and I want to ask something. I heard we can pray to deities like Green Tara or Red Tara for worldly benefits too and I have heard experiences like people asking Guan Yin for children or love and getting their wishes fulfilled. So I do want to ask as I am a layman who is searching for love, would praying to these deities bring me a male partner and would they accept homosexuality? please help, thanks

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Jana,

Thanks for your questions. All deity practices do indeed bestow worldly benefits as well as spiritual progress. But perhaps not in the manner that you are expecting. The deities can definitely help to fulfil our worldly wants, however our worldly wants are filled with selfish desire and attachments. Hence, the Buddhas do not always grant our wishes because they know that our wishes are extremely selfish and will lead to suffering for ourselves and others.

A simple example, a lot of people pray for wealth. The Buddhas can help us get wealth, as there are many types of wealth practice. However, they will only do what is best for us as they operate from compassion. So if they see, we will use our wealth for the benefit of not only ourselves and others then they will help us acquire that wealth. But this is not just magically given, we still need to do things to accumulate wealth, they will make things easier and more successful.

However, if they see will be greedy, extremely selfish, etc when we get that wealth due to our attachment, and it will negatively impact ourselves and others, then they will not help us get the level of wealth that we want because they are compassionate, they know it will only lead to us suffering more. The same includes any worldly benefit, including finding a partner.

The Buddhas see us all equally, with love and compassion. They accept anyone, regardless of your race, gender, sexuality, etc. As such, no matter who you are, they will help.

In regards to finding a partner, both Green Tara and Red Tara are beneficial. But as I mentioned previously, they will not help us in the ways that we might want them to, because it may not be good for us. Both are great for creating and harmony and attracting things into our life, but they won’t do so magically. We have to transform ourselves to become better people, and then they will definitely help us if our motivation is good and they know that a particular relationship won’t lead to suffering for ourselves or the other person. The main thing I would like to stress here, is that we should pray to the Buddhas for more than worldly gains. Our motivation should be self-transformation, then from a karmic level we are able to achieve what we want and the deities will help us achieve what is good for us.

    I hope this helps.

I am fairly new to Buddhism. I was I introduced to Buddhism from a former boyfriend. I read once in a book that a teacher is someone who introduces someone to Buddhism, which is the path to enlightenment, is this statement true? Would he be my guru? If not, how could I find a teacher?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear BB,

A teacher or guru is someone who teaches you the Buddhist path and shows how to practice, providing guidance and advice, etc.

Tsem Rinpoche gave a very good teaching about this topic here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/refuge-and-the-guru.html

You can read the article or listen to the audio to find out more.

Hello Pastor: I am very confused please kindly let me know "Om Mani Dehwa Hri" Amitaba Buddha mantra can help soul going to Buddha Land or not? But if a dead person lost consciousness how can she/he prays?

Is Amitaba Buddha light is RED in colour? If so a soul should follow red light at death? Or yellow light? Or Blue?

Which way is the best way to purify bad karma? Does it depends on very bad karma or light ones?
Which one for light karma vs very bad karma?

Please kindly advise. Thanks so much for your kindness. Om Mani Pad Mehum.

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Chan,

Thank you for your question. Each Mahayana tradition will have different methods to attain being reborn in Purelands. So different traditions will place different emphasis on certain Purelands.

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the mantra of Amitabha is Om Ami Dewa Hri”. This mantra can be recited by anyone to create a connection with the Buddha Amitabha.

From a Tibetan Buddhist perspective, the mantra of Amitabha alone will not be able to led a being to be reborn in his Pureland. That would require an extremely strong connection with Amitabha and a lot of merits, that comes from the transformation of the mind, meditation, etc.

At the momement of death, if a person has purified enough negative karma, generated enough merits and transformed their mind, then as they lose consciousness, their minds are fixed on Amitabha, then that can lead to them taking rebirth in his Pureland. So the practice of achieving rebirth in a Pureland is not done at the time of death, it is done throughout life, everyday until the momement of death itself.

At the moment of death, there can be many signs that occur, for example lights, images of monks, hearing chanting, etc. The main thing to concentrate on therefore is actually preparing yourself during life for that moment.

The best way to purify karma is to engage in Dharma practice, whether this is formal practice (daily prayers, sadhanas, etc, or specific purification practices such as Vajrasattva, 35 Confessional Buddhas, etc) and transformation of the mind following the teachings of the Buddha. The second one is the most important to purify great amounts of karma and generate merit.

Tashi Deleg Pastors!
I have questions about one situations:
I hope you can make me understand this.
I'm not so lucky that I can't be stay near to my Guru and therefore, it's quite difficult for me to consulte with my Guru's about my own problems in need.
One day, I have request one Lama to perfom Mo for my problems and it's come out that I need to do various practices such as Tara, Prajnaparamita sutra, Protector daily to solve my problems. So I did it for a while until lucky for me and very moving for me that one of my friend visited my Master and from friend that i can contact with my Guru and I had been consult with Him again about my problems. And my precious Guru advices me should focus in Guru Yoga Migtsema and Lord Dorje Shugden.
For sure is my faith in my Guru never shaking and I will follow His instructions all the way.
It's just one things that I concern about this is Mo result from the Lama who is perform Mo for me and what I should do with it now?
Could I stop Mo advices from this Lama to focus in what's things should do from my root Guru advices me?
Do these effect me anything?
Thank you so much.

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Khang,

Thank you for your question. If your problems have been lessened through the practices advised through divination, then it is okay to stop unless the lama gave specific instructions on how many mantras, prayers, you should do and for how long you should do it. Usually divinations for problems will come back with certain practices to do until the problem is over, or for a certain amount of mantras or recitations to be completed. You can check back the results you got from that lama.

If your precious guru has asked you to concentrate on Lama Tsongkhapa’s practice and Dorje Shugden, then that should be your main practice. If in doubt, you can contact your guru and tell him about having received divinations results from the previous lama and ask him what you should do, if you need to continue those practices, etc.

I hope this helps. Thank you.

Could we recite and practice daily of Trakpo Sumtril without empowerment or permission?
How's we should visualize during recite Trakpo Sumtril mamtra for non-initiation?
Could you list which kind of deities that we can do without permission or empowerment?
Thank you so much.

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Mariam,

Yes, you can practice Trakpo Sumtril without empowerment or permission. His practice is a lower tantric practice, so can be done by anyone.

Since you do not have the initiation, you do the entire visualisation in front of you. You can find more information here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/trakpo-sumtril-retreat-instructions.html. If you go to the commentary section and scroll down, you will find information about how to engage in the practice, visualisation and mantra without initiation.

There are many deities that can be practiced without initiation including, Lama Tsongkhapa, Dorje Shugden (Protector), Manjushri, Chenrezig, Vajrapani, White Tara, Red Tara, Green Tara, Black Manjushri, many, many. If you are interested in a practising a deity but don’t know if you can do it without intiation or not, you can ask here. Hello Pastors!
Do you have any prayer or mantra to Lord Hayagriva that we can recite without empowerment or permission?
Is Lord Hayagriva is protector or Yidam?
What's kind of obstacles that we can invoke lord Hayagriva for help and blessing?
Thank you so much.

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Hello Shree!

Yes, you can recite Lord Hayagriva’s mantra without empowerment or permission. Lord Hayagriva is a yidam deity. Here is some information about Hayagriva that Tsem Rinpoche shared before:

Hayagriva is the wrathful manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, also known as Chenrezig or Kuan Yin, whose compassion manifests itself as a fierce energy that compels one to overcome internal obstacles and subdue outer hindrances.

Thus, Hayagriva provides a means through which a practitioner recognizes his or her own innate altruistic compassion.

Hayagriva has a bright red body and 3 faces, red, green and white. On top of his head are three green horse heads. He has 6 arms holding different implements.

In his lower right and left hands he holds sword and lasso respectively. His upper right hand hold a vajra and his upper left hand is in the threatening mudra. His central right and left hands hold a khatvanga and spear respectively.

Each of his eight legs steps on a snake, showing that his practice grants effective protection against Nagas. Hayagriva has the special ability to cure diseases in general, and skin diseases in particular, even one as serious as leprosy.

He is effective protection against Nagas (water spirits with serpent bodies) and counters the after-effects of black magic and spells. He is especially beneficial for those suffering from terminal illnesses.

His spiritual energy in the form of sound that helps to transform the mind (Mantra): HRI PEMA DATRI HAYAGRIVA HULU HULU HUNG PHET

    I hope this helps!

Hello Pastors

I will now include a link to an article written by Doctor Matthew William King about Dorje Shugden and how the Mongolian viewed Dorje Shugden (his article is 38 pages long).

https://www.zora.uzh.ch/id/eprint/202104/1/10.1515_asia-2019-0036.pdf

His article speaks about Dorje Shugden prior to Pabongka Rinpoche and his teachings on Dorje Shugden.

How the great Lamas in Mongolian saw Dorje Shugden and the texts they wrote about him prior to Pabongka Rinpoche by decades.

I hope this can be of service to all of us who follow Dorje Shugden.

Pray for the swift return of our beloved Tsem Tulku Rinpoche.

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear William,

Thank you for sharing this prayer. Whilst this prayer is composed to Nechung as an enlightened Dharma Protector, from the wording we can see that it is a prayer to Nechung to remember his oath to Guru Rinpoche to protect the Tibetan government, the people and the Dharma in general. I’m not sure in what context the prayer can be recited or not.

However, generally speaking, Nechung is not a protector (whether enlightened or worldly) that can be practised openly. It must be engaged under the close supervision of a guru. There are practitioners who engage in his practice, but do so under the guidance of a guru. That is why the full prayers to Nechung, together with his mantra are not made public. Unlike other Dharma Protectors such as Dorje Shugden, Palden Lhamo, Mahakala, etc. In fact, you can find prayer to these Dharma Protectors here on this page: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/sadhana-prayers.html as it is safe to practice them without needing the close guidance of a guru. I hope this helps.

Hi, I have a concern regarding the Liberation at the Palm of your hand.
On page 415 and 417, it discusses the male state as being better. On 417 it even says that you should dislike and detest the female state. Why is that so?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for your very interesting question. Generally it is considered that being male is better than being female. And the simple reason for this is culture. Historically and even today, women can easily be taken advantage and are still not seen as equal to men in very large sections of society. Hence, it becomes harder for them to practice the Dharma seriously due to certain societal pressures, family obligations and physical dangers compared to men. It is considered a better state because it is easier to be able to practice and have less obstacles than females. So generally, females may have more obstacles to over than males in society in general and for practising the Dharma.

That said however, we have many examples of women becoming enlightened beings in female form. The greatest example of this is Tara. She was a female disciple of a Buddha in another world system. The other disciples taunted her that if she wanted to become enlightened, she should pray for a male rebirth in which she could practice better than she could as a woman. Instead of doing that, she made a vow then and there, that she would be become enlightened as a woman. There was many miraculous signs that occured then. Later, she did become enlightened and in the form of woman, overcoming whatever obstacles or pressures she would have faced as a woman.

Hence, when this is mentioned as part of the ripened qualities of refraining from the 10 non-virtues and practising the ten virtues, it is not about spiritual advancement, but the normal benefits. Anyone can achieve those benefits by refraining from the 10 non-virtues. But if you have those qualities, it is easier for you to work on spiritual progress compared to if you didn’t have those qualities. Does that mean that spiritual advancement, in this case, is only for men? Of course not, but it is easier due to culture, society, etc.

    I hope this helps.

Hello Pastors!
I'm have questions about one situations:
I'm Dorje Shugden practictioner myself and I love to share with everyone Dorje Shugden when they have trouble or difficult in their daily life but I have one thought during I observe environments situations around me.
Nowadays happened that alot of Lamas from other lineages come to my country is Vietnam to spread teachings.
One of them is no problems or even never remind about lord Dorje Shugden issues with Tibetan Government until when Nyingma lineages comming to my country like Dudjom or Mindroling and they start to dig up this situations again make so much difficult for whom start to have faith in Lord Dorje Shugden. Some of my friends now start to give up and turn back to against me after even they was help by lord Protector.
During situations that I also can not share about Lord Dorje Shugden much like before because even people ignore proves and witnesses to blinds faith in these political.
Some truly use mind and hearts to thinks.
Some without mind and to hearts to judge in faith.

My questions here that:
Do I share about Lord Dorje Shugden who need guide and really understand Him? Just different here that I will not always public with people to share about Him when they ask help for anything but only need to that I will do.
Can I share about Lord Setrap or more public about Palden Lhamo instead? When people meet me publics and ask me ways can help them.

P/s: I'm not Rinpoche, Geshe, Genla or pastor and I'm just a normal Dharma Practictioner because people used to visit my small main Tsongkhapa alter and small in the corner is Protector chapel with various main Gelug Dharmapalas and they really get help and come back to ask me for advices with their problems.
Unfortunately in my country, we haven't much Gelugpa centers, temples, or Gelug monastic Sangha here and so it's extremely difficult for me to introduce any center with Gelug practices and Protectors for them.
Finally, I need to share them with general practices in Gelug tradition in my limit no more.

This is all for my situations.
Thank you so much.

    Dear Nhat Khang,

Very sorry to read that you have been facing this. Unfortunately, these are the circumstances that many of us face due to certain prejedudices against Dorje Shugden amongst practitioners.

You can continue sharing the practice of Dorje Shugden with others, however try to make sure that they are people who will accept. If you have already shared the practice with others, but now they have turned away from the practice, don’t force them to practice again. Leave them be. At least they are practising some form of the Dharma.

If this is too difficult, share with the general Dharma practices and the other Dharma protector practices. That will be very good. In fact, sharing the Dharma with others in general such as the Lamrim teachings is very beneficial even if they do not want to practice Dorje Shugden. Sharing the Dharma with others generates a lot of merit. Ask them to read and study the teachings such as the Lamrim. This would be very good. Hope this helps.

Tashi Delek Pastors!
I have questions about Food offerings to Hariti practice:
As a lay person, could I engage the practice food offering to her?
Maybe, I can not do the practice food offering to her all the times same with Monastic Sangha due to my busy life but I have wish to offering food to Mother Hariti 1, 2 or 3 times each weeks.
Is it OK for me to do this?
Thank you so much.

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Tashi Delek Bill,

Nice to see you here. Yes, of course, anyone can engage in the food offering to Hariti, including lay people.

And yes, we understand that you might not be able to do the practice daily, as you do have other commitments. And that is fine, you can do the offering as and when you have the time.

As you will see in the actual prayers, the sutra propitiates the Three Jewels, so every time you do it, you will be blessed by not only Hariti but the Three Jewels in general. Her practice is extremely efficacious as I’m sure you have read in the article.

Wish you well, and may you create a close connection with Mother Hariti. She will definitely be a beneficial influence in your life. Thank you.

Hey pastors, I just passed through a difficult week where mi practice declined till almost nothing, I want to know how should I approach situations like that? What can I do to increase faith and maintain a consistent practice?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Sirius,

I’m sorry to hear that you have been going through such a tough time. Just remember that there is impermenance, which means that all difficult times will eventually end.

The way to have faith and maintain constant practice is through learning and conteplation of the teachings and to see them in your life. For example, to study and understand karma and impermenance, but then contemplate how your own life experiences show this. Then you would contemplate on the state of enlightenment and the qualities of the enlightenment.

So when you are going through tough times, you know that those tough times will end and that the enlightened beings can benefit you. That is the correct way to build faith, and through that consistency in your practice. I hope this helps. I will keep you in my prayers as well.

Jason

Hi, this might have been already answered before but why do we pray to the various boddhisatvas and ask them for help on our spiritual journey when we can just directly pray to the fully enlightened Buddhas themselves? Is the Buddha less capable of helping us in samsara than the various boddhisatvas?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Jason,

Thank you very much for your interesting question. There are two levels to this. The first is that the Bodhisattvas that we actually pray to usually are actually emanations of Buddhas. Good examples of this are both Manjushri and Chenrezig. They both achieved enlightenment many aeons ago, but manifested as the Bodhisattva disciples of Buddha Shakyamuni in order to facilitate Buddha teaching the Dharma. Many of the scriptures state that the Buddha taught various teachings, because he was requested to give the teachings by Manjushri, Chenrezig or other Bodhisattvas. So actually, when we pray to these types of Bodhisattvas, we are actually praying to the Buddhas.

But even here there is a deeper level, and that is the Mahayana path of practice. The very core of Mahayana practice (and therefore Tantric practice also), is Bodhicitta. Once you have achieved a form of Bodhicitta in your mindstream, you are a Bodhisattva, of which there are 10 levels of progress. Bodhisattva’s like Manjushri and Chenrezig, are 10th level Bodhisattva’s meaning, they are enlightened.

The reason is not that Bodhisattvas are more capable of helping us compared to the Buddhas, it is because they are closer to us in terms of karmic affinity, because their forms are within Samsara, hence they are able to help us faster.

All of these is explained in the Mahayana scriptures that teach about the Bodhisattva path. It is also explained in the Lamrim teachings in depth, such the Stages on the Path to Enlightenment by Lama Tsongkhapa or Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand by Pabongka Rinpoche. You can read more about this in those texts.

    I hope this helps.

In the last couple of weeks a lot of video's appear of you on my YouTube feed. Talking about Vajrayoghini and her practice. I am very drown to her and the practice, but I have no idea where to begin. I am in Kathmandu, Nepal at the moment and there are several tempels here who worship Vajrayoghini, but I haven't found a teacher who can help me to understand more about it. As I want to explore more about Vajrayoghini and her practice, I feel like there are many things that I love about it.
As I know, that there are no coincidences, I know I need to dive deep in this path. Could you help me to find a center or teacher where I can go in Kathmandu?
Warm regards,
Marije

    Dear Marije,

Thank you for your question. We have an entire category here full of teachings by Tsem Rinpoche regarding the practice of Vajrayogini: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/category/vajra-yogini

One article I would highly recommend is Starting on Vajrayogini Now: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/inspiration-worthy-words/starting-on-vajra-yogini-now.html

While you are in Nepal, you should go to the Vajrayogini temples there, make many offerings and many aspirational prayers to receive her practice and meet a guru who can guide you. Even though you are in very holy places there, the main issue will be finding a guru who can guide you if you do not speak Nepali.

Also the practice itself belongs to the Higher Yoga Tantra class, which is the highest form of Tantric practice in Buddhism. There is a lot of preparations needed before you can receive the full practice, which is all listed in the article above.

I hope this helps you. Thank you.

Hello Pastors!
I have read one of miracle stories from Rinpoche and I have one questions:
https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/behind-the-scenes/miracles-of-tsem-rinpoche-5.html
Tsem Rinpoche always recommend two Dharma Protectors is Lord Setrap and Lord Shugden to everyone but why this time he is recommend Mother Magzorma for Wong Kok Peng?
I have heard from Pastors due to our karmic link that Lord Setrap and Lord Shugden will more closer and it's easy able to reach to help us than Mother Magzorma.
I just suprise through many stories from Rinpoche but this is first story that I have seen Rinpoche recommend Mother Palden Lhamo for someone.
Could you explain this for us?
How we know which kind of Dharmapala good for specific persons in first time? When they are not close to any high Lama or master.
Thanks.

    Dear Bao,

Thank you for your question. Sometimes Tsem Rinpoche used to recommend various other Dharma protectors apart from Dorje Shugden and Setrap. In such cases, it is because that particular deity could help overcome very specific issues that person was facing in a swifter manner than other Dharma protectors due to karmic affinity.

Generally, Tsem Rinpoche heavily recommended Dorje Shugden and Setrap because they extremely effective and quick, because they are closer to us, as you mentioned. However, Rinpoche also recommended the practices of any enlightened Dharma protector, as they are all beneficial.

Here in Kechara, our main Dharma protector practice (both in terms of pujas and personal daily practice) is Dorje Shugden, but we do engage in the pujas of other Dharma protectors also. If, for whatever reason, you feel a strong connection or affinity with another Dharma protector, Tsem Rinpoche’s advice was to practice that deity.

However, Tsem Rinpoche also mentioned that in order to really benefit from a Dharma protector’s practice, you need to engage in the practice daily without fail. You can setup a nice altar to the Dharma Protector and make daily offerings, then engage in the practice. Once you choose a Dharma Protector practice, you shouldn’t switch back and forth, because then you won’t develop a close relationship with either of them.

Traditionally, the full practice of Dharma protectors is not usually open to be practised by everyone. Dorje Shugden and Setrap’s practice is different in that sense. Usually, you would require higher tantric initiation before teachers would recommend other Dharma protectors. However, some prayers that can be practiced by anyone can be found here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/sadhana-prayers.html

The Dharma protector prayers that you can find in the link above include short prayers to Sengdongma, Palden Lhamo (if you find you have a stronger connection to her), Kalarupa and Setrap.

So in general, we recommend the practice of Dorje Shugden, however, if feel a stronger conenction with the other Dharma protectors mentioned above, of course, you can engage in their practice. I hope this helps.

    Caro Matheus do Brasil

Obrigado.

    Dear Matheus do Brasil

Thank you for your question. We are really happy to read that you are interested in Buddhism.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with learning about the different Buddhist traditions. It’s good to do, since then you are able to come a decisions about which tradition you want to practice.

However, once you have found a tradition that you would like to practice, you should practice that tradition properly, without mixing your practice with other traditions.

Tsem Rinpoche had a simple analogy regarding this. All genuine Buddhist traditions (which means they have a lineage and can be traced all the way back to Buddha Shakyamuni without any breaks), all lead to enlightenment. But they are like different roads that take you there in a different way. They pass by different buildings, landscapes, and emphasise certain things, contemplations and meditations. But they all get you there in the end. The goal is the same but the path is different.

If you practice a mix of traditions, then you will actually get confused in your practice towards enlightenment, because of the difference in terms of meditations, contemplations, practice, etcs. It is like travelling along one road, then switching to another, then switching back. You will get lost and won’t arrive at the destination.

So, of course, please do find out more about the different traditions, but once you find one that you want to practice, stick with it all the way. That way you will progress on your spiritual path.

I hope this helps you. Thank you.

世界各地读者对“There’ s No Way But Up”一书的热烈反应推动黎国圆继续撰写其他著作,包括尼泊尔朝圣指南《Vajrayogini and other Power Places in Nepal》(金刚瑜伽母及尼泊尔其他圣地)、短篇故事集《Tales My Lama Told Me》(上师告诉我的那些传说)以及关于情感关系的《Conversations in Love》(亲密对话)。

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
