Ask Your Doctor About Meat™
Ask Your Doctor About Meat™ is a video made by Ollie Hallowell Productions. It is an amusing parody about eating meat in the style of a TV commercial.
Ollie Hallowell Productions was started by James Hallowell, who is a Harvard graduate and has been inducted into the Association of Multi-Media International’s prestigious “Producers Hall of Fame”.
Ask Your Doctor About Meat™ is a very well-made film where the presentation is mature, sophisticated and “funny”, but the information delivered is factual and well…. the truth.
- “Meat contains large doses of antibiotics needed to keep animals alive in the tiny and crammed metal cages in factory farms…”
- “In many cases, eating meat has been found to contribute to obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer…”
- “Injection of hormones may cause endocrine disorder, reproductive problems and impotence…”
- “Ever virulent meat-borne diseases like E. coli and salmonella may cause abdominal cramps, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and fever – especially in children…”
By eating meat you expose yourself to diseases such as appendicitis, arthritis, breast cancer, cancer of the colon, cancer of the prostate, diabetes, gout, strokes, obesity…
You are also more likely to get gall stones, high blood pressure, indigestion, piles, varicose veins etc…
It’s not that by being a vegetarian you won’t get any of the above; however it is more prevalently found in meat-eaters than vegetarians.
If statistics such as “In an average lifetime (75 years), humans consume about 2,800 animals. This number includes 2,630 chickens and ducks, 123 turkeys, 32 pigs, 13 cows and calves, and 2 sheep” don’t affect you that much, then why not stop eating meat for your health?
Or if you don’t care too much about yourself, why not stop eating meat because 760 million tons of grain are fed to animals every year when they could be used to feed the more than 963 million people in the world who are starving? This is according to the UN FAO.
OR if you don’t particular care about yourself or other people – why not do it for Earth? “A colossal 1/3 of raw materials and fossil fuels consumed in the United States are used in meat production”. Also, “producing a single hamburger patty takes up enough fuel to drive 20 miles”. If you don’t drive, how about knowing that “today’s livestock produces 87,000 pounds of faeces per second”!
However you look at it, by eating meat you harm yourself, you harm others, you harm the planet and you support cruelty towards animals.
Besides your argument that “meat tastes so good”, what other excuses do you have to eat meat? Unless you are self-destructive and selfish, of course.

Dear Rinpoche, I really like the way how they explain it. Our ABC (Animal Befrienders Coalition) is thinking about teaching people about animals not through cruel video about torturing animals but through education. We are trying to maybe give some short lessons during the Sunday classes. But we have to ask Mr.Paul’s permission first.
Dear Rinpoche, eating 2,800 animals means that non-vegetarian people eat up to 37 animals in one year. Not to mention that eating meat not only destroy our body it also destroy animals. Some people will say that eating meat is bad for your body but the problem is why don’t they become a vegetarian?
If you are meat lover, please watch this video, is no any different that we are having chemical once eating meat, of course the side effect won’t happen on this moment… For long term consume chemical, sure will affected our health and indirectly causing more animals to be slaughter. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
This is so scary. And the worst thing is that the meaty products manufacturers still promote eating meat as something that is not only delicious, but something that is healthy as well. The concept here is so wrong that I do not know what to say about it. It is just scary!!!!
Many a times the consumers do not know what is going on about the food that we consume, especially for the meat products. But if we work in a company that does sell all these products, we will know what are the processes behind, hence we would not even think of consuming the “food” at all.
Cumulative toxins from meat eating causes so many modern day diseases and this is confirmed by medical doctors. Meat eating causes much suffering to animals and ourselves. Abstaining from meat will create eco-friendly planet earth for today and next generation. The best way to go is become vegetarian, your contribution to save planet earth, avoid animal suffering and a healthier you.
Another reason for us not to eat meat. Why eat meat, have 10 to 20 mins of “enjoying time”, later have to suffer for 10, 20 years of treatment, or slim down etc…
We prefer having short term Happiness and long term Suffering. This attitude will not stop here if we do not change. Eating meat is one of the way to express this bad attitude of us. There are more…observe..
Everything stated in the video are true. Eating meat is like destroying yourself, others and our planet Earth.
To me, I think that meat does not even taste good. It is just the herbs and sauces they put with it. Meat would taste horrible if you just boiled it with no herbs or spices or oil.
I am fortunate enough to have learnt about the cruelty and suffering in slaughterhouses. I am fortunate enough to learn about the health effects and the amount of damage slaughterhouses are contributing to the environment. I am fortunate to be vegetarian.
Even Al Gore said that meat is bad for the planet. (source:http://www.downtoearth.org/blogs/2010-02/environment/climate-change-caused-animal-slaughter-inconvenient-truth)
