Stunning Bookshelves!
Dear friends,
When I was much younger, I would visit flea markets with my adult relatives and purchase as many books of all genres as I can with my savings. I would visit many libraries in the area also. I was a voracious reader and love books. I still love books. I recalled purchasing, at a very cheap price, a 2nd hand encyclopedia set from a used bookstore and had so much fun reading through them back then. I had spent months going through the set. You cannot find a modern physical encyclopedia set anymore and when you can it’s very pricey.
I love bookshelves too because I love books, so I thought this would be an interesting post to share with all of you. How nice to be in a room, cozy, warm with a many books lining the walls, some plants, a view of the mountains, a Manjushri statue with a candle glowing, resting on a easy chair reading. Throw in a pizza! That is the sort of vacation I like!
I don’t have the time and luxury of reading as much as I like anymore, but I do still read.
Which book shelf do you find attractive? I like the massive two story one as you scroll down.

Very special and unique all those book shelves as mentioned in this article. Each of them has their own uniqueness regarding what their structures are. I much prefer a simple book shelf. But glad to know there are so many types of book selves regarding to their choices. The tree branch bookshelf, the infinity bookshelf, and the ceiling bookshelf are some of the very unique ones which I have not seen before.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Good ideas for people who collect books and reads them.
So nice to see all these beautiful bookshelves! I remembered I used to go to Chrowrasta Market to look for used books and comics when I was study in Penang. To get something you long looking for is just like digging out precious stone from the ground 🙂
I remembered my sweet memory of reading books was when I was young, my mom would bought back some books and comics as well to us after she did her marketing during weekend. My father is the only one earn the income to support the whole family but my mom still taking care of this aspect of “nutrients” for her kids, apart from food for our stomach…
I love the bookshelf looks like in the cave, old and a bit mystery. However bookshelf with big windows and letting as much as sunlights to come in is nice, for I like rooms with sunlight. Em, open bookshelves always nice to looking at but comes to cleaning up will be a bit messy…
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these beautiful bookshelves when most of us are paying attention to digital and electronic devices & accessories…Thanks for bringing back the lovely and sweet moments I had with books.
Though I am not an avid reader but I do love to have books as companion. I prefer the tree branch and the floating book shelves. For me, it will be better if we actually read it and keep some that are useful or for future references. Others, we can share it with our friends, donate or perhaps as a gift for others. Hence, I don’t think I will invest in the massive two storeys bookshelf. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
These bookshelves are really pretty. I really like the floating bookshelf and the Bookshelf that opens up to a hidden library. The bookshelf that is around the bathtub seems to be very impractical though. I really don’t like getting my books wet haha. I think that we should cherish our books with all our hearts as all books are either a wealth of information or an insight to a person’s mind that is portrayed through many months of hard work.
Dear Rinpoche,
Reading is an amazing thing. Its a good way to improve your languages and pick up vocabulary. I really wished i had read more books in the past, then my english marks may be better haha.
But for me personally, i like the 3rd bookshelf. I like how the books are right above the bed. It looks very cozy and you can easily reach for a book to read before you sleep. I like to read on my bed as i like comfort when im reading. I do not like sitting up straight at my deck because i believe that reading should be a relaxing and somewhat lazy part of our day. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing with us Rinpoches opinion on reading as well as thank you Rinpoche for sharing the pictures with us 🙂
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing on your passion on reading and interest in books. In the past the only source of knowledge could only be written in books. These books do not come cheap and not easily accessible by all.
The design on different type of book shelf was very creative and beautifully set up.The people who design this shelfs definitely have a passion in books and intend to pick them out in the future to have another round of reading.
We need to thank Rinpoche for making the precious Dharma knowledge so affordable and easily accessible to public through e media. It is through knowledge that one could attain wisdom through proper guidance from a person who care to share this priceless gift of wisdom.
Thank you Rinpoche for your priceless sharing on Dharma..
As said, Kechara’s book publication helps to bring our Guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s valuable teachings and ancient wisdom of Dharma into the context of contemporary living. Through reading of books, it will serve as a powerful and inspiring method of creating a shift from negative ways of thinking into positive, altruistic and compassionate attitudes. Therefore, reading will also serve as a “powerful and inspiring method for mind transformation. As shown by our good guru, such developed good habits will also help in creating the causes for inner and outer peace too – so as to make world peace eventually becoming a reality. Happy reading to all.
Whao…! These really are amazing bookshelves. And so creative, too! Like the ceiling one, the diagonal one, and the ‘A’ shaped one. I personally liked that one best. 😉
However, I did find some of them a bit impractical, like that letter one. You could only put maybe up to 20 books only. But that’s just my opinion.
Thank you, Rinpoche, for posting this!
Your humble student,
Keng Hwa.
Dear Rinpoche,
All the book shelves are impressive, and you were right, the two storey book shelf was really impressive. But the book shelves I especially liked where the floating bookshelves, the secret passage, the recycled piano and the tree branch book shelf.
I liked the floating bookshelves because it was like defying gravity and reminded me of the musical ‘Wicked’ which I loved. The secret passage was because if you wanted to be alone for a while, you can just hide yourself away in there. I really liked the recycled piano because no one would think a piano would become a bookshelf if no creativity was used. I found the tree branch bookshelf symbolic. The tree symbolises your mind and how many books is on it tells us how much knowledge we have. 😉
Wow! I love these pictures of bookshelves. I love to read too when I was younger and I need to pick the habit up again. I love the traditional floor to ceiling bookshelves and a few of the modern ones like the floating ones and the tree branch bookshelf. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
Dear Rinpoche,
From my very youth I too always have been very attracted to books and bookshelves, especially the one situated in universities and monasteries. Seeing books alone was enough to bring me a warm feeling. As a teenage, externally I was a punk, but internally I was very attracted to the monastic way of life and knowledge without understanding this apparent contradiction and keeping those aspirations secret. Now that reincarnation and karma is part of my world view, I can understand that those aspirations was coming from past lives habits, and that my punk attitude was coming from a feeling of this life to be born in a alien place, :-), that makes a lot of sense to me now.
My preferred bookshelves here are ‘the massive, two story bookshelf’ because of its vastness, light and green plants, and ‘the entire room of bookshelves’ because it looks like an hermitage place full of knowledge at hand…
With folded hands, I humbly thank You for all Your effort to spread the Dharma to all, and request that Your life be long and that all Your projects swiftly come to fruition without delay.
Ahh all of the above bookshelves are stunning and creatively put together. I quite like the recycled piano and the framed shelf. They are unique and innovative. Thanks for the post Rinpoche.
Wow… These bookshelves are really pretty. I really love the one that is with the stairs. It really fully makes use of the space that we would have in our houses. Not wasting any space that is available for storage. Adding on to that, it would act as very nice decorative looks for the house as well.
I just love all these different book shelf styles!
