Guess What Paul Tried?
Below is a wonderful message posted on my blog comment section from Raluca. It warmed my heart to read this and also how compassionate Sir Paul is!!! To use his fame to benefit something important on this planet. Just being rich and famous is nice, but if only WE enjoy it then that will not take us very far. If we use it for a bigger picture or a bigger cause, then it is very, very, very useful tool.
Please read below. Let’s hope the Prime Minister of India will consent. I pray he does. I also pray for Raluca, and for Sir Paul and his wife. Thank you Raluca for such a wonderful post. I appreciate it very much. Thank you Sir Paul for inspiring so many to be kind to animals who suffer so much.

Sir Paul McCartney, founding member of The Beatles and Wings, has written a letter to India’s Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, requesting January 12th be declared an official meat-free day. The purpose of such a day is to celebrate compassion towards animals, and commemorate the founding of India’s branch of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
In the letter he wrote, “Would you please think about declaring one day every year — perhaps 12 January, the anniversary of PETA India’s founding — a day to celebrate vegetarianism and compassion towards animals? Such a declaration would save countless animals, reduce the environmental devastation caused by the meat industry and help participants clear their arteries and their consciences. It would be a celebration of life — all life.”
Mccartney has been working with PETA for over 20 years to bring attention to the abuse of animals that takes place routinely around the world.
It has been reported that he and his wife Linda became vegetarians after seeing lambs on their own farm while eating lamb for dinner.

Inspiring read ….been famous and using his fame to help bringing awareness. Sir Paul McCartney, an English singer, songwriter and musician who gained worldwide fame as co-lead vocalist. He sent a letter to India’s Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to declare an official meat-free day. That’s wonderful indeed and even to commemorate the founding of India’s branch of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He had this thought ,saying this day could save animals and helping to protect both the environment and people’s health. Outspoken vegetarian Paul McCartney is urging India to declare a national Vegetarian Day to celebrate meat-free living in the country. Inspiring read.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring sharing.
Sir Paul McCartney, is an English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. He is one inspiring example to the rest of us calling on politicians and many more people to commit to a weekly meat-free day . Amazing what he did persuading people to sign up for meat-free and made the plea for people to go vegetarian once a week . Going without meat for at least one day a week can make a huge difference . He even released a new short film “One Day a Week to raise awareness and encourages people to help slow climate change by eating less meat and improve the welfare of animals. The film has highlighted the damaging role animal agriculture plays in the deteriorating health of our environment and encourages people to help slow climate change by eating less meat. Rejoice …Sir Paul has used his fame for a good cause which has inspired more people to go on vegetarian.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful news.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this heart warming news, I’ll jot it down onto my calender to be a full vegetarian on this day, even though most of the time I prefer meatless meals more than anything. It’s good and rejoicing to know that famous people like Sir Paul McCaertney is kind enough to go out to do something about the causes he cared about. As we always say action speaks louder than words, and his compassion towards animals speak for itself.
Sir Paul uses his fame for a good cause. What a great initiative from Sir Paul. Serves a great inspiration to us all.. Thank you Sir Paul, may you continue To bring awareness to others.. =)
Thank you for sharing, Rinpoche!
It is really very wonderful of Sir Paul to triy to change this world with a genuine intention out of kindness, an attribute that I seldom get to see in many of those rich and famous.
Lives may have been too good for those rich that they chose not to see unending sufferings in other beings. So seldom do I see them making efforts to do good to the world.
Fame and rich can both move the world a lot more easier than resources that need to be gathered by thousands and millions of others. Many of us may like to help, but we are lack of the financial resources required and our voices are usually missed out as they are seen as powerless.
How nice will that be that more rich and famous can stand out and do something good to the world for what they believe in, this will make their resources so much more meaningful.
One day of meatless in a country the population size in india can make a huge impact I think. Reduces consumption of meat and less animals bred for meat and hence less methane gas being generated.
We need more high profile people to speak about the dangers and disbenefits of eating meat!

Thank you.
Because on January 17th is Martin Luther King Day it is good to remember not only the importance of “I have a dream” but also this quote: “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way”. Hommage
Sir Paul McCartney of Beatles and Wings wrote letter to Prime Minister to declare 12th January as a meat free day. I don’t know whether Paul is a Buddhist or not. But being compassionate is universal. Being a member of PETA Sir Paul has requested that India’s founding day be a Day of meat free to free thousands of birds and animals to be free from sufferings on that day and also to help those who are involved with meat trade to collect merits for that Day and to lessen their Karma. This will also help meat eaters to be healthy at least for that day.
Bless Mr. Paul for his kind compassion towards animals. It’s not easy to live here in the United States as a vegetarian, there is so much meat around it makes me sad. My family are meat eaters, and I prepare it for them. I wish I didn’t have to. I don’t have to actually, but they would eat very unhealthy if I didn’t.
I wish Sir Paul’s plea to India will be successful. There’s an international meat free day on http://meatout.org/, which is 20 March. “Meatout” is the world’s largest and oldest annual grassroots diet education campaign, which has been going on for the past 25 years (this year will be the 26th year. Every spring, thousands of caring Meatout supporters educate their communities and ask their friends, families, and neighbors to pledge to “kick the meat habit (at least for a day) and explore a wholesome, compassionate diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.”
I think that we don’t need to have an international meat free day to practice being vegetarian though – everyone can be vegetarian once a week, once a month, once a day… it’s like valentine’s day – we don’t have to wait for once a year to express love for our partners and loved ones.. it can happen everyday and any day. The more often the better.
It’s always good to see people with fame and fortune putting their influence to good use. The story of how Paul and Linda McCartney became vegetarian is extremely poignant…not many people are face-to-face with the animals they happen to be eating at the time…
I’m sure Paul McCartney is now vegan, after he realised that there’s an awful amount of animal abuse and suffering on dairy farms as well. One of the most impressive things I find is that, often when people have lots of money, they can think themselves above morality and ethical living, but Paul McCartney – along with various similar celebrities – is a great example of how we can use whatever we have at our disposal to benefit animals and people alike.
Kind regards,
Sandy
And let’s hope that we can also one day have an international Meat Free Day too. It would mean a lot to all who put some thoughts into the significance of it.
