Question asked by Ms. Lee
I am from Penang and got to know about Lama Tsongkhapa through Kechara. It took me half a month to memorise Migtsema and now I can chant the 5 line prayer with ease so I went to get myself a box set of Lama Tsongkhapa to learn more. Perhaps I am a little slow because after going through the books I am still lost at how to do the guru yoga because there are so many things mentioned inside.
Just want to confirm if it is correct – first I read in English all those invocation…etc and than chant 108 times of Migtsema and then read the dedication. Is there all there is to performing the Guru Yoga ? And then about performing the Powa can I visualize as per the instructions given before going to bed and then visualize again upon waking up ? Must I chant any mantras before visualizing the white cloud with lama thongkhapa floating up and connecting me with the heart of Buddha Matreiya ?
Please explain the correct way if you can although I know it is explained in detail in the book and I also had seen Tsem Tulku Rinpoche's talk on Lama Tshongkhapa practice.
Sorry but I guess I am stupid to not be able to absorb. Thanks for your time.
Dear Ms Lee,
We are very happy you have started this wonderful and beneficial practice of the Guru Yoga of Lama Tsongkhapa. As a beginner, you don’t have to worry about the visualisations or performing the powa. As you recite the Guru Yoga, reflect on the meaning of each verse as explained by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche in the videos. After you have more or less memorised the verses and understood the meanings, then you can start practising the visualisation. The important thing is to have a good motivation at the beginning. It would be good if you could join a study group and attend Dharma talks where the Ganden Lhagyama is taught. In Penang, there is a study group. Please contact this number: 0124229124. If you are in Kuala Lumpur, contact the Kechara House Front Desk: 0378033908. Starting this Sunday, we are giving teachings on Lama Tsongkhapa and the practice of Ganden Lhagyama. I hope you can attend.
