Question asked by Sabina Giorgini
Dear Rinpoche, I had the immense good fortune of taking Refuge and Bodhisattva vows directly from His Holiness the Dalai Lama during Avalokiteshvara Empowerment in Milan last June 28th. I had wished for these vows for a long time and since I have lost both my parents, my mother on last May 2nd, as I was receiving the vows I really felt like entering into a new family. I don't think it's only my impression, I think this new family is real because that warm feeling of being part of a family never leaves me; now that I have Refuge I know I am protected, and all this gives me the courage to endure and go on, it gives me strength and confidence. I had the good fortune of promising to Chenresig himself and I will never give up my promises, in the same way that I never gave up with my beloved parents. I am so happy that I can share and tell all this to you Rinpoche because it is also your teachings that led me to that wonderful moment.
I wanted to ask about Dharma names. Since I received vows during a public ceremony I have no Dharma name. If I had to pick one name for myself I would choose the name of Lama Tsongkhapa, Losang, out of admiration, devotion and inspiration, but I don't think that I can name myself. So, now to the questions: what is the purpose of a Dharma name? If I asked you Rinpoche to give me a Dharma name, could you do it? Thank You, Much Love,
Sabina
Dear Sabina,
I didn’t see this question. Sorry it too so long to answer.
You are worthy of any dharma name. If I was to name you, I would name you Tenzin Losang meaning HOLDING THE DHARMA WITH A GOOD MIND. I wish you luck. TR
