Question asked by Tam Yan Tat
Dear Pastor,
My name is Tam. Currently, I am following some quite interesting article on Tsem Rinpoche blog and website. My reason for this, to gain more dhamma knowledge and to increased my awareness about what buddhism all about.
Well, as my concern, I like to know from you, is there any relations between Depression and Karma? I remember reading one article from a tibetan buddhist website mentioning this before.
Please kindly give me some advised.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Tam Yan Tat
Dear Tam,
From Buddhist view, everything is due to one’s accumulated karma / imprints. -the substantial cause. The propensity for depressive mental states is triggered by secondary causes such as genetic, biological and environemntal factors. For example, the substantial cause for good health and long life is having taken care of others ,saving and healing others etc in our past lives.Hence even though a group of people may have eaten the same contaminated meal, those who hv the good karma will not be affected.
