20 essential facts dog lovers must always remember
Dear friends,
I wanted to share this to encourage everyone to be very kind to animals and to show love to them. These are good suggestions here. They may not be the only concern in your life, but to them you are their whole wide world. They have no one else but you. Be kind and loyal to them.

These life lessons are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, but when you remember that you are your dog’s whole world, these 20 truths are unforgettable.
1. Don’t ignore me for too long. I may only live for 10 to 15 years. It seems like forever when you’re away from me and it hurts my heart when I don’t know where you are.

2. Take me to new places to meet friendly people and animals. I might be frightened of them at first, but if you hold my paw through these new experiences, I’ll learn to be more confident and trusting of others. I really do love to meet new friends.

3. Don’t throw me away when new family members arrive. They are my family too and I will love and protect them as much as I love and protect you.

4. Don’t get mad at me when I jump up. I love you so much and sometimes I can’t help getting excited and wanting to give you a hug.

5. Teach me new things. I love making you happy so teach me what you’d like me to do. Learning is great exercise and I love it just as much as a run at the park.

6. Don’t get frustrated and give up on me. I don’t understand your language, but I’m trying my best to learn. Give me time to understand what you want of me because all I want to do is please you.

7. Don’t take out your stress on me. No matter how your day went, I am always happy to see you and will do whatever I can to make your day better.

8. Give me comfort when I’m scared. I always feel better when I’m with you and it may just take a moment before I understand that new things wont hurt me.

9. No matter how busy you are, try to spend a little bit of quality time with me every day. This is truly what I look forward to the most and every minute means so much to me.

10. Don’t leave me outside when it’s too hot or too cold. I don’t have anywhere to go to stay cool or to keep warm and I don’t know how to escape if I’m in a desperate situation.

11. Don’t forget the little things that keep me healthy and happy. My paws hurt if my toenails are too long and I feel much better after my coat has been brushed free of mats. I could even get sick if my teeth are too dirty. It’s only minutes of your time, but it means so much to me.

12. Trust me. I trust you with all my heart, so please trust me too. You mean the world to me.

13. Don’t be angry with me for too long. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you.

14. Talk to me. I may not understand your words, but I understand your tone and body language.

15. Always treat me with kindness. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it. The more you love me, the stronger our bond will be.

16. Please don’t hit me. Remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you because I love you. If I did something wrong, I didn’t mean to make you angry, so please help me understand how to not repeat it. I would much rather give you kisses.

17. Let me know whenever I’ve done something right. Nothing in the world makes me happier. I can tell when you’re pleased with me and if I know what I’ve done to make you smile, you can bet your life that I will try and do it again. And again, and again, and again…

18. Pay attention to me if I’m not being myself. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, please check to see if something might be bothering me. My heart may be getting old, I may be unwell, or I could even be in pain.

19. Take care of me when I get old, just as much as you cared for me when I was a puppy. When I was young, you spent so much time cuddling me and touching my soft fur. My fur might not be as soft and I am no longer small, but my love for you has only grown stronger.

20. Come with me on difficult journeys. I understand that it’s hard for you, but please stay with me until the very end. Everything is better, easier and safer for me if you are with me. Remember, I love you.

Wow…..wonderful dog lovers should read to help them to be more caring, loving having a pet. Once we have them as our pet we have the responsibility to give care and love to them. Dogs have feelings like us and is men best friend.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this essential facts for dog lovers.
Sometimes (or all the time), the love you have for your dog is so overwhelming you can’t keep it in. The way they tilt their head when you talk to them and how they have this wonderful tendency to always fall asleep in a cute position; it’s impossible to not fall head over heels in love with your dog.
You want to declare your love from the tallest mountain and scream it from the rooftops, but even that won’t be sufficient enough to convey your feelings to your furry friend. You and your dog share a special bond, but a language barrier is keeping you from expressing all you have to say.
So, how do you say to your dog, “I love you,” and be sure he gets the message? Here’s how.
Share a Quiet Moment:
The next time you have your dog cuddling in your lap or sleeping by your side, take the opportunity to look into his eyes and speak softly to them. According Dr. Brian Hare, a professor at Duke University, eye contact coupled with a calming atmosphere releases another kind of love drug called oxytocin.
Oxytocin is at least partly responsible for forging the strong bond found between a mother and child, and there’s really no better way to describe your relationship with your dog.
Feed Him by Hand:
The fastest way to a dog’s heart is usually through his stomach. You’ve already seen the way your dog stares at the last slice of pizza, and dinner time is probably his favorite part of the day. But being offered food is about more than basic sustenance and deliciousness.
When you feed your dog directly from your hand, you show that you’re the food provider and directly responsible for his momentary euphoria. But it’s also an intimate experience that tells your dog you care.
Train with Positive Reinforcement:
Dog training isn’t about one party simply telling the other what to do. It’s a partnership that requires you and your pup to work as a team. The more you train and the better you work together, the stronger your bond will be.
Using positive reinforcement training methods creates a reciprocal relationship where your dog is working to make you happy so that in turn, you can make him happy with a chosen reward.
Let Your Emotions Show:
Dogs are extremely perceptive animals. They pick up on emotions, social cues, and body language. If you’re excited about something, don’t be surprised when your dog gets a sudden burst of energy. If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, your dog will often mirror those feelings.
The same goes for feelings of affection. Letting your dog know you love them is as easy as acting normal and letting those emotions shine through.
These interestig facts will definitely helps us a lot to love our pets and to care and appreciate them.Beautiful pictures, beautiful creatures, beautiful coexistence. Really a man’s best friend. And i love all the meaningful quotes with the inspiring pictures. Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for this lovely 20 essential facts for dog lovers. ???
Dogs have feelings and they know more than we think. When we adopt them, it is a commitment for life and we must treat them as a member of our family. It is our duty and responsibility to take care of them as we would our children.
In return they are the best companion one can have. They will hang on to your every word even though they may not know the language. They will love and trust you. My dog, before he passed, he would always go to his recuperation corner whenever he didn’t feel well. It’s as though he wanted to feel comforted. It was very touching.
Cut a long story short, they are deserving of our care and attention and love.
I bet if our pets can speak human language, they will give us these advice too. The amazing thing about having pets is that each and everyone of them have their unique character, and with it, the pace and way they like to interact with us. My cat, Charlie, was an introvert, and she enjoyed to be left alone but she would curled up at the corner of my bed near my foot nightly. It’s her way of bonding. In my exam years, I had a Matties-mixed who used to spend late nights in my room, staying by the door guarding over me (to study). Once exam was over, she did not bother to come into the room anymore. Bonding with our pet needs time and patience, it is not something that can be done in 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. But once the relationship is established, it is unbreakable.
Thanks Rinpoche for sharing

Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for this article, it really resonated with me, being a dog lover. Now, I really miss my family’s dogs back home in Malaysia. I really hope that this article will help other people, like it had helped me, realise just how precious and loving a dog can be, and how we can be the brightest light in their lives as they do their best to be the brightest in our lives.
Thank you, Rinpoche. _/|\_

This is probably one of my favourite articles on the blog! As a fellow dog lover and owner i not only found this article entertaining, but also very knowledgable. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these 20 facts with us. I hope that it would help many people take care of their dogs better.
I would like to address fact number 19. I found this one to stand out from the rest of the facts. This is because many people buy or adopt dogs when they are young pups just because they are cute. But then when they get older they neglect them and don’t take care of them, because they are no longer cute. This is not the way to think and treat your pets. You should be there for your dog from the beginning till the very end.
Lastly, i would like to address fact number 9. It is very important that we spend at least a little time with our dogs everyday. I agree 100% with fact no.9 as it explains that our dogs really look forward to seeing us and spending every second with us. It doesn’t take so much effort from us and it makes them happy. Win win.
Beautiful pictures, beautiful creatures, beautiful coexistence. Really a man’s best friend and with that saying, we should do everything in our power and will to never hurt them, harm them and instead protect them! And it would be awesome if we could spread this same love to other creatures, other animals, and no limit it to just dogs. We don’t need to keep all of them as pets, kiss them or take pictures of them, how about trying to at least not eat them https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/win-a-manjushri-statue.html, that’ll be great start for some real humanity to begin 🙂
All these facts are completely true and tell so much about how you should take care of your dogs. Firstly I love dogs so much and the moment you take them home, they are officially family and you cannot abandon them because of sickness or they are replaced. Because the love that they give you is so much it is off the scale and they would help you no matter what so we must help them.
One thing I would like to say is Rinpoche is totally correct in the beginning of the post it says that they are not around for a long tim and we should appreciate them and love them because we are all they have. Even though they can be a small part of our lives, nothing will love you more. So love and appreciate them.
I will always remember these tips because I love animals and especially dogs. They are lives too and if we were them we would want more than what they ask for so treat them like people with needs and work with them and stay with them until the end because their love for us is forever lasting.
Thanks this is quite a meaningful article for me now that I have dogs of my own.
I agree 100% with all of the facts stated above, especially with number 16. We see / hear a lot of animal cruelty cases predominantly dog abuse. They definitely have the capability of crushing our bones with their jaws, the reason why they don’t fight back is because they know what is love, they have feelings. When animals are threatened, they will do anything to keep themselves safe, not to mention that dogs as well, that’s why they have their sharp teeth and unique jaws. If you’re walking on the streets and suddenly some random person walk up to you and give you a punch in the face, there’s no way you’ll not fight back or just let that person go. When animals don’t fight back, it doesn’t mean that they don’t feel anything, it’s because they are capable of forgiving. If we have decided to keep a pet, we have to take care of it, it’s our responsibility. How the animal behaves reflects the owner, keeping a pet is a life-long commitment, once it’s yours, it will always be yours, until the day it dies.

Thanks Rinpoche for showing me how to care more,it’s so inspiring and I love the photos.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this heartwarming pictures. These 20 essential facts are really meaningful and the pets owner should keep on mind to take care and love their pets like their family.
I am a dog lover and I loved this post! It’s so inspiring and I love the photos Rinpoche! 😀
Great advises!
I notice nbr 19. for indeed, the soft fur and sweet smell of a puppy, the very thing that made most of us adopt a dog, this is gone, and instead, it is hard, sparces, falling fur, dry crimpled and flaky skin, the smell is very different too, but one thing remains, is the love in the eyes and the comfort I can see when I pet my old shivering dogs.
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing. I like this quote from the article “They may not be the only concern in your life, but to them you are their whole wide world”. It is very meaningful quote for us.
Thank you Rinpoche for this most touching and heart-warming post.
Reading it and viewing the pictures, which say a million words for these adorable furry beings, I now realize that in showing love and care for these beings, we are engaging the innate kindness that is in all of us.
Indeed, when we can care for these beings who are loving and caring and loyal and faithful, we are showing real altruism. Why because they can’t say “Thank you’. They can’t say “I love you”. Yet their soulful eyes and body language say all this for them. Only we must give them the time and the care they deserve, whether they are young or old.
Thank you Rinpoche for always making us see more and care more and for kindling the inherent kindness in us ALL.
If I were to given the right, I’ll vote for number 14. I like the picture and the cache ‘Talk to me. I may not understand your words, but I understand your tone and body language’. All of us have emotions and I am sure they do too! I truly hope all the pet owners will better understanding of their pets more through this article. Last but not least, when one of our relatives is passing away, we will try our best to be by their side. Hopefully, they do have someone by their side too, especially the owner! Thank you Rinpoche for this.
I feel so nice and happy to see these lovely people in the pictures really taking good care of their pet dogs! They all deserve that because dogs are very loyal and make good companions. They also protect their owners and their family members and their properties. Therefore dogs owners must always remember these 20 essential facts. Thank you for sharing.
Pets have feelings too. Just that they can’t expressed themselves verbally but their actions through their loyalty show that they care much for their owners. As owners, we should treat our pet as our family and take good care of them. Thank you, Rinpoche.
We should care and love the doggie if we decide adopted them.Don’t treat them as part time pet toy.
Thank You for the facts Rinpoche, they are so true yet so touching. We might have hundreds of friends but if its to be compared, I think our pet is the bestest and closest friend we can have. Our pet might be just a passer in our life, but to our pet we are the only one to rely on.
These facts are so interesting and touching. If we humans have the ability to communicate with animals, I don’t believe anyone would hurt them. Some people like my uncle used hit his dog just because he poop on the floor. They don’t mean to poo on the floor, they simply poo around is because we did not train them properly. And that is the cause of everything.
It is said that, “Nobody can fully understand the meaning of love unless he’s owned a dog”. Man’s conduct with regards to animals should be regulated by humanly right reasons, which prohibits infliction of purposeless pains and sufferings on them. To ill-treat and make animals to suffer without reason is an act of deplorable cruelty to be condemned from any religious point of view. Especially like those sadistic painful sufferings inflicted on the dog called Tara in Rinpoche’s blog, which is an exhibition of sadism and insanity to the highest degree, which every moralist must denounced and condemned! It is one of these things we need to consider seriously, if we want to improve today’s society, and make today,s world a much more better, harmonise, peaceful world to live in for all, humans, animals or otherwise. Om mani padme hung.
Dear Rinpoche,
The above 20 facts are really so meaningful. If only all pet owners will remember those and remember that pets and animals have lives too…and can feel pain, hurt, happiness, sadness and more..then maybe animal abuse will be lesser.
Pets are family and not toys to be played a while only to be discarded later.
Thank you for such wonderful facts to be remembered and the heartwarming images.
I am a mega dog lover and all these are so true, dogs are lives and they feel, learn and understand you. They are there for you more than your closest friends! You mean so much to them even though they are a small part of your lives.
Love our pets like loving our family. Love is beyond human and human, with love between human and animals as well.
I really touched when I read this post!!!I also hope many can read this post then change our attitude towards our puppy, kitten and all other animals. Don’t hurt them by your emotion, don’t eat them by your desire, don’t bite them just because you not enough patient, don’t scold just because today is not your day…the reason is very simple: “They may not be the only concern in your life, but to them you are their whole wide world. They have no one else but you. Be kind and loyal to them.” I like what Rinpoche remind us. Thank you! Very good reminder, this post should be read again and again, in case we forget!
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these heart warming picture as I read along I feel so touch, very true we should treat our pet like our own family members, no matters under what circumstances we should not abandoned them love them and take care of them.
The 20 essential facts make my heart go soft after reading this blog post. Seems that the way i treat my dogs is wrong and cruel….. I learned a lot from this 20 sentences.
Thanks Rinpoche for showing me how to care more
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for sharing the above 20 essential facts for dog lovers.
To me this 20 facts shouldn’t just apply to dogs but to other pets such as cats and etc. They are all also animals that want love and care from their owners.
It isn’t just dog owners that take care of their dog when they are puppies and then tend to neglect or even send their old dogs away to the animal shelter, I have seen on animals shelter webpages that even lots of cats, birds, hamsters and so many other pets are sent to animal shelters when they are older.
By the way: All 20 pictures above are soooo heartwarming, such a vute attack!
Love
Jutika
Thank you for sharing these cute little things. The photos are so adorable, aren’t they 😀 Animals are friends, our loyal companions, we should not ever let them be in harms way for our own selfish goals.
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for sharing. All points are so right, and the last one just brings tears to my eyes. Till the last moment I will.
Thank you, Rinpoche. I enjoyed this post very much. Love the heartwarming photos. 🙂
