Rinpoche feeding stray dogs | 仁波切喂食流浪狗
(By Pastor Loh Seng Piow)
H.E. Tsem Rinpoche always keep dog food in the car-boot, and will feed stray dogs whenever He comes across them along His journey. Any person/being who happens to come across Rinpoche’s path will always be relieved of suffering…

Tsem Rinpoche always teaches us to be compassionate, to focus out, to care of others. By doing so, we can heal ourselves and be happy. Happiness is a state of mind, is not how much we make, how many places we have been or how much good food we have eaten.
When we care for the animals, we learn to love without agenda, without condition. Besides, we also learn to be more observant since animals cannot express themselves using our language, we can only know how they are by constantly observing them.
Rinpoche shows us by example how to care for animals and the importance of developing the quality of compassion. If we are not able to adopt an animal, then at least don’t hurt them.
Rinpoche shows kindness for all beings. It is also through Rinpoche’s compassion that Kechara Forest Retreat will have Animal Sanctuary will manifest big in the future. we already started with our rescued birds and dogs and cats which have taking care now. We should do the same keep dog food in the car and feed the strays whenever we can follow Rinpoche’s footstep and lessen the pain of an animal as much we can, in this way we create the cause to have an good well taken care animals sanctuary in kechara and we able to generate peace in the society…
Dear Rinpoche, my mother just agreed with me that from now on we will buy dog foods and put it in the car boot so that when we see stray dogs than we don’t have to run to any market store to buy dog foods to feed them. But for some reason, I don’t see stray dogs in the streets anymore. I hope the doggies are all being adopted. And if that is the real case then I wish that the new owners of the no longer stray dogs will take care of them nicely.
Love your dog mean love your family
Tsem Rinpoche’s love towards all sentient beings are equal, especially to animals who can’t earn their living, can’t take care of themselves like human, Rinpoche will always pay more attention to them.
Animal can’t say thank you when we are kind to them, so being kind to these animals are the best way to practice kindness, hence, Rinpoche has shown his kind act as a teaching to his students.
Rinpoche’s love towards has never changed since the beginning, he cares about animal even till today, he still carries pet food with him whenever Rinpoche goes. That shows the consistency.
Rinpoche has been using himself to show as example on what Rinpoche’s teaching does not just come out from his mouth, but through his action too.
Rinpoche does not just created Kechara Soup Kitchen to feed the Human Homeless, he also feed the Animal Homeless, so no matter who you are, or what you are, as long as you are hungry, you are to be fed, whether we are animal or human, when we hungry, we eat.
Due to Rinpoche’s love towards animal, Kechara Animal Sanctuary has formed and now Pastor Susan is heading this department, the purpose of this department is to rescue as many animal as possible, the simple reason why Tsem Rinpoche is doing all these, that is because Rinpoche can’t bear to see the animal suffer.
Thank you Rinpoche for always showing us the example and the path in spirituality.
It is wonderful to see this. dogs get much needed food and get more blessings from rinpoche.

Rinpoche is so caring, stopping from his busy schedule at the side of the road, in an alley, during visitation to places, Rinpoche would stop and make sure the stray animals he sees are fed and hydrated. I really want to follow and also put dog food and cat food in my car and do the same. Not only giving them food and water but also listen to Rinpoche’s mantra chating. It is such a blessing for the animals to receive food and water from Rinpoche. May these animals take a better rebirth. Thank you Rinpoche for showing these animals and many more the love they deserve.
It is wonderful to see this. The strays is not only getting food but also getting blessing from Rinpoche. Rinpoche has always being kind toward everyone and animals and also consistent in giving. Rinpoche shows us a good example and inspired that we should always care for the everyone even animals around us. Thank you Rinpoche.
A suggestion – bring them to the (Selangor) SPCA. These volunteers do an absolutely wonderful service!
Compassion in action. Rinpoche always walks the talk. Leading by example. No matter where or who. Regardless of time. Rinpoche can’t bear to see any being suffers.
A living Bodhisattva.
Thanks Seng Piow for posting this up. Now many more will follow Rinpoche’s foot step by storing dog food in their cars!
Thanks Seng Piow for sharing, Rinpoche always care for all sentient beings…
May all sentient beings be care and have a good condition to stay…
Recently, a young boy of ten visited the gompa and asked me to explain what’Buddha’ means. Remembering Rinpoche’s unending great love and compassion for all beings, I told him that a Buddha is someone who sees the past, present and future of any being in front of him – be it a stray dog or a criminal/mass murderer – and immediately and spontaneously manifests his great love and compassion for that being.
Thus does Rinpoche manifest great compassion towards all animals in the three videos here, feeding them and always giving them his love and a Buddha’s blessings, so as to plant Dharma seeds in them. Rinpoche has been consistently caring and compassionate towards all animals from a young age. We see this when we read his biography.
Wishing that those stray dogs able to receive the blessing from Rinpoche and plant a Dharma seed on them.
Thank you Seng Piow for sharing this nice post. Rinpoche is truly a compassionate Lama,he is always showing us kindness and compassion in action ! Thank you Rinpoche for teaching us in many ways to benefit more other being. I wi keep some dog food in my car boot to feed the stray dogs. May all animal can reborn as human and can learning dharma!!
Thank you Seng Piow for the sharing. We could not deny that Rinpoche is a generous and compassionate person for all sentient beings. His action is sincere and contagious.Whoever who watch this video would want to be a part of this activity.
If we do not have the time the just sponsor some funds to the Kechara Animal Sanctuary. The volunteer there would be glad to help you out.
I was at the Wesak day fair the other day and there was a lot of kind Kecharien who contributed to this fund to help out those animals in need.
Drama kid class benefit my daugter. One rainning day she saw a stray dog chase behind of her car. When she reach home n she request money from us n ask about dog food….n What the dogs like to eat…we reject to give her money coz she do not give us a reason why she need money. At night she went on bed n cry. After a few minues then only we get to know that she need money to buy dog foods n she want to feed them.
The only I can explain Rinpoche’s compassion would be a that Rinpcohe is a true living Buddha. Compassion and loving kindness is second nature to Rinpoche. When I see the doggies eating the food given by Rinpoche, I can’t help but to think that they’re truly blessed to be fed by a living Buddha.
Rinpoche has inspired me to pack doggie and kitties food whenever i’m out during my KSK rounds. While feeding the friends on the streets, i can feed the cute mumus too! hehe
May this be the last lifetime to be in animals realm for the cute mumus..May they be reborn as humans in their next life so that they can practise Dharma and be near Rinpoche! =)
Thank you for sharing, Rinpoche!
Thank you Rinpoche inspire me again. This is great practice for preparing dog food in car-boot and we can feed the stray dog or cat immediately when see its ,so its wouldn’t be hungry at that moment 🙂 Always practice for benefit others .
Rinpoche recites mantras and blows onto the food to bless the food before feeding the stray animals and also blows mantras to plant dharma seeds onto them. It is due to ignorance and laziness that a being takes rebirth as an animal and reciting Manjushri’s mantra will help the animals take a better rebirth. Rinpoche’s compassion for all sentient beings is amazing and we should support Rinpoche’s visions of setting up Kechara Animal Sanctuary. http://www.tsemtulku.com/projects/gallery-projects-charitable/kechara-animal-sanctuary.html
We should support Rinpoche’s vision to have an animal sanctuary for stray, abused, sick and homeless dogs, cats etc. Help the animals to have a better life and a good rebirth in their next life. Donate generously to Kechara Animal Sanctuary.
This shows Rinpoche’s love, kindness, compassion towards ALL sentient beings. Feeding stray dogs may seem like an easy task but in actual fact, how many of us would actually get down from the car and feed them? Hungry knows no barriers. Rinpoche really sets a great example on that. _/\_
Rinpoche is an amazing guru. He teaches not just by speech but also by action. Rinpoche does not only provide food for these stray animals but also hope and blessings. He plants seeds that will karmically open over their future lives to ensure that they will be enlightened.
Rinpoche shows so much love and care for all sentient beings. It is due to Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion that Animal Befrienders Coalition (ABC) and Kechara Animal Sanctuary (KAS).
Rinpoche once told us that whatever food Rinpoche gives to the dogs (and even us!), it is always blessed by Rinpoche so that Dharma seeds will be planted in us… or sometimes it’s to open Dharma seeds that’s already in us.
Rinpoche always tell us, never let anyone that meet us leave without having benefited them in some way…
This is wonderful, that Rinpoche is always so kindness, compassionate, caring and always love all the animals. Rinpoche really loving dogs so much and always won’t let the stray dogs get hungry, when met dogs on the street. That why we have a department Kechara Animal Sanctuary (KAS), to take care of the animals.
Thank you for sharing this nice post.
Well, besides feeding stray dogs, Rinpoche would always recite mantras to plant spiritual seeds in their mind streams. In the video, you can already hear Rinpoche reciting Medicine Buddha mantras to be blown into the food that the dogs eat and also at the animals themselves. There are times when I was out with Rinpoche, he would recite other mantras too like Chenrezig’s and Manjushri’s mantras.
The first time I have ever heard Manjushri’s mantra being recited by Rinpoche was when Rinpoche was reciting it to a stray dog. Rinpoche had said before that any mantras can be recited to bless animals but he recommends Medicine Buddha’s mantra to be recited 7x and blown onto animals or their food. It would be great if it was recited loud enough for them to hear as well. When I say blown means the mantras are first recited and then we actually blow onto the animals while visualizing our breath consecrated by these mantras reach out and bless the animal.
Dear Rinpoche, the third video is blurry. And the doggies in the videos above are so cute, especially the second video because the video is so much clearer than the first one and the third one. They looked and sound so happy when they got the bone and they ran around with the bone. SO CUTE!
This is very heartwarming. Rinpoche has always been very kind to humans, even animals. I wish more people would help the strays, they are very hungry and pity because they have no food to eat and no home to stay.. it’s not also very healthy for them to find food around the dumpsters as it’s very unhygienic and will give them health problems. I feel so glad for the doggies who have received both food and blessings from Rinpoche, even it’s just that one meal, it means a lot to them.
Thank You for sharing Seng Piow.
I love it that Rinpoche is feeding stray dogs 🙂 We need more people like this. People that would go through all that effort to make others happy. Especially those in need of help. I really wish that more people would help the stray.
And, one of the animal shelters that Rinpoche has visited, i have also been there. The dogs there need help and blessings. I am very happy and would like to thank Rinpoche for giving them both. Thank you for spreading your kindness everywhere Rinpoche.
Rinpoche is a very very kind, caring, loving and compassionate man and he always cares for others before himself. i hope one day i can feed stray dogs with him, please live long Rinpoche so you can bring so many wonders to the world and the dharma.
Rinpoche is always kind to whomever he comes across. Be it animals or us. Rinpoche will never walk away or not care. The strays may be unfortunate to have no home but they are truly Blessed to have Rinpoche feed them food. We should do the same, have some pet food in the car and feed the strays whenever we can. When Kechara Animal Santuary has a place of its own, many strays will have good place. Thank you Rinpoche for teaching us how much we can help them and learn to be kind and compassionate.
As the Dalai Lama has said, “Buddhism does not assert that there is anyone who from the beginning is free from faults and possesses good qualities. The developement of pure body, speech and mind comes from gradually leaving the impure states and their being transformed into the Pure!” Through Rinpoche’s inspired teachings to gain wisdom to practise on real inner transformation of our negative qualities, Rinpoche, as always, shows the way! Thank you once again Rinpoche for your usual kind inspiration and compassion.
Yes, Rinpoche does it all the time. Whenever RInpoche goes out, there’s always god food and milk in the car. And when Rinpoche sees any strays by the road side, he will stop to feed them, especially those that are skinny and hungry.
I guess this is also the cause for the start of Kechara Animal Sanctuary (KAS). KAS is now headed by Pastor Susan. We now have a small shelter in Kechara Forest Retreat which houses a few dogs. The dogs were also neutered to stop the growth of the population. On top of that, Pastor Susan has been rescuing puppies on the roads. So, all the help is needed to grow this area where animal lives are saved and have a better life.
I have also learned to keep some cat or dog food in my car boot and offer to the strays whenever i come by them while driving. Some of them are really skinny and some are even bullied. Thank you Rinpoche for teaching us how we can use our life to benefit all other sentient beings.
Yeah, that is an good idea to keep some dog food in the car boot..can give to the strays :>
I will going to buy some dog food… Thanks Rinpoche give us an good idea 🙂
What is wonderful is that not only do the dogs get much needed food, they receive even more needed blessings from Rinpoche – to plant dharma seeds which will open up in future lives. This is the compassion Rinpoche has for all beings which we should strive to emulate. It is also through Rinpoche’s kindness that Kechara Animal Sanctuary will manifest, though the toughest challenge will be finding the resources of funding and manpower. Should anyone wish to contribute towards or volunteer for this wonderful vision, please contact Pastor Susan at susan.lim@kechara.com
