Amazing Lion Shows Gratitude!
This woman in the video found this lion injured in the forest ready to die.
She took the lion with her and nursed the lion back to health. When the
lion was better she made arrangements with a zoo to take the lion and give it a new and happy home.
This video was taken when the woman after some time went to go visit the lion to see how he was doing.
Watch the lion’s reaction when he sees her. Amazing!!!!!
I really love animals. Sometimes they teach us the meaning of simple gifts in life such as always having gratitude for those
that have helped us.
What an inspiring video. Beautiful.
Please share this with friends and children. Inspire children to be kind to animals.

Many people consider animals as primitive creatures. In fact like human and they have feelings, do feel pain , need love , attention and have exclusive qualities that even human are hardly acquainted with. Watching this video again show us how this lion been rescued showing gratitude to the one who saved him. The lion remembered his rescuer even though after a few years apart. That’s amazing. Hugging like an old friend who had not seen for along time.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.
So touching scene. Animal is just like human and they have feelings. They do not exist to be used by us but we all co-exist and support each other.
Amazing! This lion really remembers and remembers fondly too. The scene ow he and his rescuer bond after few years is touching and tearjerking. We humans, have plenty to learn from this lion. 🙂
Amazing..that the lion show gratitude to the woman who has nursed him.Well as there is a saying that animals have feelings too like human.True enough after warching the video, we can see how the lion reacted after seeing the woman that rescued him. At the begining of the video , i first thought the lion going to attacked the woman. Later only i realised the lion hugging her.
To remind ourself that we must always appreciate, grateful to those who
have helped us along the way and don’nt forget to lift them up at times.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
Aww this is a brilliant footage. It is quite unusual for the ferocious lion to show the feeling of gratefulness, I mean it generally of course but this one is a special video. Very sweet and intelligent creature.
Dear Rinpoche, I wonder how is it like to hug a lion? The first time when I watched this video, I really thought that the lion were attacking the lady but he turns out hugging her. Now it proves that no matter how fierce the King of jungle is, it still have a soft part
This is so touching. This lion is huge. And this shows all of us that if you be kind to animals, they will be kind to you too. And in this, is an excellent example. How the lady saved this lions life was so amazing. And the most amazing part of this is that the lion still remember this lady after 6 YEARS. Amazing what animals are capable of doing.
When the lion hug and kissed the woman, I thought that it was going to bite the woman. It shows that the lion still appreciate the woman for saving its life and didn’t forget about her after not seeing each other for quite sometime. I didn’t know that a fierce kind of animal like lion would show love and care not only to their youngs but to peoples too (not to all people and don’t try this). If animals can show love and care to humans then why can’t we do it. If you love animals then please be a vegetarian and promote vegetarianism. Thank you for reading
Aww..this is so heartwarming!!! I feel so happy for the lion, the woman was so kind.. I don’t think I will ever go near to him. This lion deserves a second chance to live. I’m happy for the lion and also the kind woman. May both of them have good health and long lives.
Thank You for sharing such an inspirational article Rinpoche.
Love, beatrix.
I had tears when I was watching the video and I watched it twice. When I 1st watched it, I was scared because I was afraid that the lion might hurt her. But all he did was just hug her. The gate in between them was the only thing holding him back from jumping on her with joy and love. Its really an amazing video.
Dear brother Rinpoche, The power of spiritualism can bind people from all corners of the world irrespective of cast and colour.Great to read about you and Thanx for lovely video.
Thank you for sharing the video of the lion kissing its owner. I think that the video above shows how animals can be more caring than humans can be. I thought that it was so cute when the lion kissed the lady. I wish I could be hugging that lion now. I remembered that this lion was once featured on Ripley’s Believe it or Not. I really wish that humankind would be more grateful to be in the human realm and also because unlike other realms in samsara can learn the Dharma. We should not act like an animal as we can do better than an animal. We should have a better attitude compared to them as we are human but in touching stories like these we should take them as an example.
I saw a similar video but it the lion was released back into the wild after it recovers. A couple of years later, the 2men that saved the lion went to check on the lion. You should see how the lion ran to the guys when he noticed them. It’s really nice to be able to watch this video after a lo
ng day.
It’s now 01:57am and I just got back from doing volunteering work. Although I’m kinda tired and especially my eyes, I still wanna read rinpoche’s blog. I some how find some messages being carried across and I will sleep better. I just wanna say that I feel like hugging the Lion. It touched my heart and I just hope people will stop killing animals, abusing them and hurting them 🙁 I end here with a prayer for them : Tayata Om Bekanze Bekanze Maha BeKanze Radza Samudgate Soha.
Even the king of the jungle could show such sincere and genuine gratitude towards her saviour, how about us, human beings? A heartfelt example which remind us about remembering the kindness of others…cheers to the lion, king of the beast
Thank you Rinpoche for this lovely video – i can really feel the gratitude and love from the lion… this is a great reminder that animals are SENTIENT beings so we must stop harming them by hunting, eating, or even putting them in zoos.
Guru: Thanks for sharing. Am Will do prayer for the animal sanctuary.
i often wonder why human beings are so ungrateful (to their teachers, parents, relatives, friends, animals and Mother Nature etc.). i guess, despite our worldly intelligence, we must practise Dharma even more seriously! Thank you Rinpochela, for the wonderful sharing – a precious reminder to ungrateful me.
How wonderful to be reminded yet again that animals can be more human and grateful than some humans beings are. As I watched this video I think of how cruel and beastly mankind can be as witnessed in “Earthling” and similar videos.
It seems the capacity to behave like any being within all realms are within us and perhaps what really separates us from animals is that we can choose how we think and behave.
Anyone who has ever loved an animal will most definitely know how warm and genuine the love of this other sentient being we call ‘animal’, is. They are definitely not just food or sport or entertainment.
Yeah my dad sent me this video a few days earlier. I had a good cry… Really amazing stuff.
Such a fantastic example of selfless compassion. Sadly, there seems to be wrong views about animals’ capacity to remember people and express love/gratitude – it really is a shame stories like this aren’t given more exposure, because they remind us that not only is giving a reward in itself in regards to benefiting other beings, but in giving selflessly, we also receive so much back in return and so it always makes sense for us to give whenever we can in ways that are sure to benefit both ourselves and others – everyone’s a winner!
I would like to offer a similar video for people to watch and enjoy. I’ve shared this so many times before and although I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it, it never fails to drive home the importance of love and compassion.

All animals can sense when there is danger or kindness in the air. Most people will be afraid to go near wild animals especially when they are injured, they will be more aggressive. Like this lion that was injured and this woman who saved his life when she found him in the jungle and waiting to die. The woman’s motivation was because of great compassion of the woman in not letting the lion die in the jungle. She took the risk by taking the lion and nursing him back to health. Then she brought the healthy lion to the zoo for safe keeping. As for the lion he remembers who has saved his life and since animals cannot speak the lion show his gratitude by his action for the woman when she visited the lion in the zoo.
Thanks for the sharing. I had read the article before and had felt thta wild beings too had the capability to experience and show immense gratitude. Its a heart warming video, and hope more cold blood human able to realize a thing or two after watching the video.
