I haven’t seen my lovely Aunt Matza in nearly 30 years. I had the pleasure of her company recently where she flew in to join in our official Kechara Gompa opening. She stayed in the Ladrang and got along really well with all of our Ladrang ppl. She has returned to the US and last night Su Ming called Sara. Sara said her mother Aunt Matza missed the Ladrang people… nice. I and all of us miss Aunt Matza also. I love this lady. She is no nonsense and easy going. When I was a kid I use to think she is really cool and she still is.
A lot of people in the Ladrang told me that they miss Aunt Matza very much and it was a pleasure to serve her while she was our guest. After Aunt Matza left, the Ladrang staff said that the ladrang felt empty for a while. I agree.
Well here is a video of Aunt Matza teaching our Ladrang people how to cook some Mongolian-Kalmuk dishes that I liked and haven’t had for 30 years… hehe
Much thanks Aunt Matza… it was great seeing you. I love you and appreciate you making such an effort to be here at our Gompa opening… Tsem Rinpoche your nephew always…

A poem inspired by seeing a picture of my teacher, Kyabje Zong Rinpoche…
In the sport of correct views,
all that is correct is just a view,
without permanence or substance.
As long as we hold onto views,
our sufferings are gathered
to be experienced without end.
Without the strong methods of emptiness
and compassion, bereft of merit,
we sink deeper without respite.
To arise from this samsara is but
a dreamscape on the deluded mind.
Therefore seek the guru, who confers the yidam,
hold your vows and fixate on liberation
free of new creations. Free of new experiences as
there are none.

I was walking past a second hand shop on Western Ave selling old things. They had a Japanese-style clay Buddha which was beige in colour on the floor, holding the door open. I thought the shopkeeper would collect a lot of negative karma without knowing if he kept such a holy item on the floor as a doorstop. So I went in to talk to him, but he didn’t look like he wanted to talk or that he even cared. So I asked him the price and he said US$5. I purchased it so he did not collect more negative karma. I was 17 years old and that was in 1982.
I escorted my new Buddha home and washed it lightly and wiped it. I placed it on my altar and was happy with the Buddha. I would do my meditations, prayers, sadhanas, mantras and prostrations in front of this shrine daily. When I left for India in 1987, I could not bring this Buddha along and gave it to a friend. It was a nice size and I made offerings to this Buddha for many years in Los Angeles. In front of the Buddha I placed His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s photo. I remember I was so relieved that the price was affordable. But US$5 that time was still expensive for me but worth it I thought. But I was happy to have brought the Buddha home. Tsem Rinpoche

Dear Rinpoche,
I am very glad that Rinpoche had the chance to meet Aunt Matza during the Gompa Opening.
Most of us will usually go back to our Home Towns during Chinese New Year to celebrate but for Rinpoche, who has came to Malaysia for over 30 years haa not even gone back to the U.S for even once to meet Rinpoche’s Aunt and so on.
I am very touched how Rinpoche has been so compassionate to sacrifice everything just to come to Malaysia to teach us the Dharma.
It must be very painful to Rinpoche to not see Aunt Matza for so many years as Aunt Matza was one of the people in the U.S to have taken such good care of Rinpoche back then.
I am happy that Aunt Matza has traveled all the way from the United States to come and witness our New Gompa’s Opening as well as getting to know more about Kechara and it’s Department.
Glad that after 30 years of being seperated from Aunt Matza Rinpoche has finally met up with her….
It was very nice of her to make these 2 delicious Kalmyk Treats as well as sharing the recipes to the Ladrang Staff.
Thank You Rinpoche for sharing!
Hope Rinpoche had a fun time with Aunt Matza and I hope both Rinpoche and Aunt Matza will meet again.
Love
Jutika
It was delightful to meet Aunt Matza in New Jersey and hear her talk about Rinpoche as a young boy. She obviously loves Rinpoche very much and wished she could have done more for Rinpoche when he was suffering at home. Although Aunt Matza is not Rinpoche’s blood relative, at least she was someone who played a big part of Rinpoche’s childhood and I’m happy she made it to Malaysia to see Rinpoche 30 years later and could make Rinpoche’s favourite dishes also as well as teach the ladrang staff.
The way Rinpoche expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Aunt Matza after not seeing her for over 30 years is incredible. I am sure Aunt Matza has held Rinpoche close to her heart too to have come this far to meet Rinpoche and to spend time with Rinpoche and the Ladrang people.
I totally agree with everyone in Ladrang that Aunt Matza is a very nice and cheerful lady. Although I see her only for a while every morning when I come into Ladrang to Blog. I seem to think I have known her for a very long time. She is alway smiling and very bubbly. If you are depressed and one look at her cheerful face will make your blues disappear. Yen Ni and her partner Adelyn Lim who owns the Boathouse Restaurant and Yen Ni who is also the owner and chef are lucky to learn two new Mongolian dishes Bortstik and Perisiki to add to their Restaurant menu. I sure miss my 5 minutes chat in Ladrang with Aunt Matza when she has her breakfast.
