Chaser, the canine Einstein?
Chaser has memorized 1,022 words and can respond. Very intelligent..take a look and be impressed…..
They are capable of understanding many more words and responding to many more instructions. Dogs can even be trained to do household chores!! Hehe, you will be surprised to find out what your dog can accomplish if you spend the time and attention to train him well.
Below are videos of Chaser, a female Border Collie who can respond to 1,022 words – all proper nouns!
Chaser’s owner, Prof John Pilley, is a retired psychologist who spends 4-5 hours a day training her. He believes that Chaser’s ability is not necessarily exceptional. Just like how a child would learn more if their parents spent more time teaching them, he reasons that it is due to the patience and time he had spent on training her. Like humans, dogs thrive on love, care and encouragement.
Dogs will know it if you love them and they will do their best to please you. You may be inspired to train your dog to understand more. It is a great way to improve communication between you and dog. Your dog is your companion for life. It is worth your time to train him well.

Incredible what this Prof John Pilley did. He is a retired psychologist who has spends hours a day training a female Border Collie named Chaser. Chaser seem to understand many words, respond to instructions and even do household cores. All these are trained with love, care and patience by Prof John. Well this amazing dog knows more than 1,000 words, learned common nouns and can identify different things. It is worth our time to train our pet dogs , spending time with them, giving love, care , they will be our best companion.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing.
The world’s smartest dog, Chaser has the largest vocabulary of any nonhuman animal…..fantastic. Chaser could even recognizing the names of more than 1,000 object. She was trained by retired professor and psychologist Dr. John W. Pilley. Chaser was one example that will change the way we look at dogs . Other dogs can perform similar tasks but not to such a high standard. When we give care, love and have special bond with our pets they are special. They do have feelings as we human. They need love , care , attention and encouragement as well.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this amazing story of a very smart dog who is redefining animal intelligence.
Amazing to watch Chaser who is capable of identifying objects based on their given names and understand instructions well. Given proper coaching, time and love, animals are capable to reach their potential and display some level of intellectual. Thank you for this sharing.
Prof John sure has trained Chaser very well! He spent so much time to train Chaser, he gave Chaser love, time that no one else could. Now that Chaser has learnt more than 1000 words, Prof must be really proud of him!
Dogs are one of the most smartest animals in the world. They can even be considered smarter than humans at certain times. Dogs are also shown to be more humane than human, showing signs of altruism that most humans lack.
wow this dog is truly amazing. this is the potential of an animal, this proves that animals are capable of many things.
Such an intelligent dog! I believe that dogs are always super cute and smart. If we have the chance and time to train them, I am very sure most of them can do a lot. Prof John Pilley is really patient to spend the time to teach Chaser. So fortunate!
Chaser is a very smart dog. She can understand more than a thousand words and follow instructions. Everybody wishes that they have a smart dog like Chaser. Its owner Professor John Piley spends 4 to 5 hours training Chaser. This shows us that if we train our pets with patient and care, they will follow instructions.
This is so cool. I never knew that a dog can be that smart that they can even remember names and several different words. Dogs are amazing. They deserve more from us. They are intelligent animals. Do not underestimate them. I love dogs, i find them just amazing. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche, i really enjoyed watching the videos.
What an intelligent dog! So incredibly amazing. The owner of the dog is also patient and passionate training the dog to have this result.
Wow! This dog is a genius. Border Collies are the most intelligent dogs on Earth. The actions of a dog can be affected by their owner. If the owner is not good, the dog will not be good. If the humans don’t train the dog properly, the dog will never learn.
Dogs are a lot like humans. Children have to listen to their parents so that they could operate properly. Teenagers have to be scolded by their parents so that they do not go in to a rebellious stage in life. Adults have to be pushed around by their bosses which become their “owner”.
Generally, dogs represent faithfulness, justice, loyalty, warm, honesty and courage. They are also fiercely loyal to those whom they love and prepared to sacrifice their lives for those who love them. As proven, dogs are givers of lives and willing to die for the sake of others. Dogs, with their warm, and geniune interest in others inspire confidence and can win good relationship with many. With such capabilities and intellegience and under good loving care, nuturing and hard and long serious training by “Chasers” owner Prof. John Pilley, a retired psychologist, it is not surprising that such an amazing feat is achievable by Chaser. True to the saying of what Alfred A. Montapert has quoted:- “Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal, difficult standards for people to live up to”.
Prof John Pilley’s hard work, love and much effort is paying off. Not forgetting to mention the intelligence of his companion, Chaser the collie.
Border collies are among the smartest breed of dogs and they are usually used to herd sheep. Dogs just like humans do thrive on positive reinforcement, what the owner did was maximising the potential of the dog.
