Dog Loyally Stood by Dead Owner
It is heartbreaking to see this video. This dog is sad, lost and disorientated. His owner died. Yet he stays nearby laying next to his beloved owner.
I sincerely hope someone will take this dog in and give him the love he deserves. I hope he will not be alone. This dog obviously has so much love to give and loyalty to back it up with. After seeing this video, I went to my altar and made prayers for this dog to find nice loving new owners. I am so worried about him. Anyone who has any information regarding this dog and if anyone has adopted him, please let me know in the comments section. I would appreciate it very much.
I hope videos and posts like this will create more awareness of the dire necessity to be kind and considerate to animals. They have the capabilities to feel pain and pleasure. Hence we should never give them pain.

It’s an age-old question: Why are dogs loyal? Some might argue that it’s just because we give them food and shelter, but any dog lover knows there’s more to it than that. After all, we give food and shelter to hamsters and goldfish. But those animals usually aren’t quite as devoted as dogs. Pooches cry when we leave the house, jump for joy when we come home and live and breath for our affection. So why is this? Exactly why are dogs so loyal to their humans?
Loyalty is also just natural behavior for dogs. Dogs are pack animals, meaning they are social creatures who prefer the company of other animals. This behavior is a survival mechanism too. Packs succeed because the members of the group depend on one another to survive.
Many dog trainers and other animal experts believe this pack mentality also causes dogs to be loyal to their humans. They think pooches view people as just another member of the pack. So dogs don’t just love a good cuddle but they also think loyalty will keep them alive. In fact, you’ll frequently hear trainers say that during obedience training, you need to assert yourself as the “alpha dog.” If your dog views you as the head of their pack, they’ll follow your lead.
Dog is indeed man’s best friend. They are always loyal to his owner. We should always care for all living beings regardless if they are animals or not. We should not discriminate or abuse them. They have feelings just like human. May the dog has a good home to take cares of him.
The display of loyalty by man best friend is truly something many of us can learn from. The sorrow in his eyes is unmistakable. How many of us can really stay true to our friends in this manner? When we find a friend with such sincere fierce loyalty, we should cherish him/her like a wish fulfilling jewel, really. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this touching video and message.
I stumbled across this video at 3:00 this morning when I couldn’t sleep. I’ve spent about an hour googling and found this website that says the dog is being cared for by the victim’s family:

oh my god, what a poor dog 🙁 its so sad that its owner past away. And yet the dog still sits and wait next the his dead body. So touching, this video really touched me, it showed me how much your dog would love you and how much loyalty it would hace towards you. I love dogs, they are such good animals.
Dogs have this inborn loyalty towards their owners inside their hearts. We see this example from every corner of the world, from east to the west.
Watching this video brings tears to my eyes too. I hope very much that the owner knew that his dog was next to his body at his death, and knowing this brought warmth to his heart. I wish too that this dog managed to find a family who can love him so much that he can gradually forget about the death of his previous owner.
Sad and touching story indeed.
such videos like this sadins me.this is another video that people should watch and take in.
More tragic story happen in my city. I was read on newspaper that a German shephard was found beside “a couple days dead master”. That dog threatened anybody who try to take care its master dead body.
Unwisely, and that make me so angry, the police officers shoot the dog till die. How stupid they are, look like there is no other way to move away that loyal dog
Dear Mr. Rinpoche
This story really breaks my heart. I wish I was there, so I can take care of this lovely dog. May God blessed this dog a new owner who will love it. My thoughts and prayers!!!
Like the saying goes “Dogs are man’s best friend”. Such loyal action has been seen, reported and proven in times of war, and at scenes of crime etc., where these animals have sacrificed their limbs and lives loyally and fearlessly for their owners. Many a dog had also seen to have on occassions saved children and old people’s lives from burning buildings, by leading them out with their intelligience. Anyway with their emotions, feelings and under-standing, dogs are almost like human beings, except they lack the sense of speech and mind to talk and think like humans. Nevertheless, some may have more trust-worthiness, love and the loyalty better than some humans do. Yes, some animals in many a way can teach us a thing or two about geniune feelings and loyalty better than humans. May this dog be blessed to get a new true owner who will love it just as much in its future life.
May this wonderful animal be cared for by kind people and become close to the Dharma now and in future lives.
The video really moves my heart. People usually would think that dogs are just soulless animals that will not do much for a human being. The dog in the video just sits next to its dead owner. The dog shows true loyalty. The dog in the video reminds of the story of Hachiko who was a dog that waited for its owner too. I hope that the doggie will have a nice owner soon and when it passes away, may it have a precious human rebirth.
Indeed, this video is so deeply moving – it touches my heart so profoundly as I have seen the movie on Hachiko, the loyal dog that waited for its master for over a decade at the train station without ever giving up hope that its owner would return one day and one cannot but feel the loyalty the animal had for its owner. Such is the profundity of the capacity of a non-talking, living and breathing being compared to that of our fellow humans who indeed need to study closely and hopefully emulate the innocent sincerity and purity of feelings between two parties in order to lessen wars, bloodshed and tears throughout the world.
Imagine how the death of its owner has virtually upset the poor dog’s world – it stays around its dead owner not knowing what was actually happening – this is indicated by the way it moves around as its owner’s body is taken away in the ambulance.
Poor thing! I have a dog at home and I see how it has changed all our lives with just being around us. It is therapeutic to have a pet especially a dog who is known universally as man’s best friend – one who won’t leave our sides even in death.
My heart goes out to the poor thing – let it find a new owner soon. God Bless.

This story really breaks my heart.

I just rented the movie Hachi: A Dog’s Tale. It is the story of the dog, Hachi – when his master dies, a loyal pooch named Hachiko keeps a regular vigil — for more than a DECADE – – at the train station where he once greeted the man every day. It is based on a true story. Hachiko’s faithful routine teaches to station’s patrons about true love and commitment. I have heard it is a wonderful movie, I haven’t watched it yet because I know I’m going to cry, need to get a large box of tissue before I put this one in the DVD player.
This breaks my heart. I also hope this dog finds a good home. I worry about this with my boys a lot, if something were to happen to me, who would care for them.
Hi Dawnene,
How about setting up or joining an organisation where others pledge to care for the pets of others in the event of the owner’s death?
This would put so many people’s minds at rest and enable them to leave this life with less attachment, knowing their pets would be safe and happy.
Best wishes,
LD
Dear Rinpoche,
This really is heart-breaking to see. So many people believe that animals don’t have the capacity for genuine love, but this example – and many like it – shows us concretely that animals experience the same emotions as humans and are definitely capable of loving-kindness. I will do prayers for this dog also. I have recently been keeping Jessie the dog in my prayers too – I hope she is as well as can be and suffering as little as possible.
If I may offer as a heart-warming antidote to this sad story, I don’t know if you have heard of “Greyfriar’s Bobby” – a true story about a little terrier dog who lived in Edinburgh, Scotland in the 19th century. After his owner passed away, the dog loyally remained at his master’s grave for 14 years. There are slight variations of the account, but it’s generally held that the dog left the graveside only for meals and only stayed indoors during the winter months. Such a remarkable story.

Like you, I hope the dog in the video finds happiness and peace with new owners in a caring home. Aminals could sure teach some of us humans a thing our two about love, care and kindness!
Kind regards,
Sandy
