Einstein gets a life jacket!
This is really something that will touch your heart and you will be amazed how much love and patient some people have.
On a daily basis, there are many stories on the Internet of how animals are abused and neglected. A few days ago, I came across a story that I wanted to share with all of you…
A man in the UK, Leighton Naylor, felt sorry for his goldfish when he became ill and unable to swim. Instead of discarding him, and getting a new fish… he made him a life jacket!
When I read about this story of Einstein the goldfish, I was so touched by Naylor’s kindness! I love fishes too, and have many in my Ladrang. They are very smart and will come near me whenever I’m about to feed them… very cute.
Naylor who treats all of his pets as a family member couldn’t bear to see poor Einstein in such a state… so he did something about it. It’s amazing how true care can bring out within us strength and creativity. I guess that’s why those who care always manage to find a way to make a positive difference in other people’s lives.
Do read this touching story of Naylor and his friend Einster… share it with your friends!

Watch how Einstein swims!
Man Makes A Life Vest For Pet Fish Who Can’t Swim
A 32 year old man, from Blackpool, UK named Leighton Naylor has made a lifejacket for his pet fish named Einstein. Einstein was a healthy fish who had been learning to do tricks when he was struck with the illness that affected his swim bladder, making it impossible for him to swim anymore.
Einstein would turn upside down and sink to the bottom of his tank. Naylor said, “Then he sank to the bottom, stuck on his side, and couldn’t go any further. He just looked depressed, the poor fish. I was heartbroken. I thought I’m going to have to do something about this.”
Naylor used some recycled tubing to create a buoyancy aid. This little device made it possible for little Einstein to swim around the tank instead of sinking to the bottom.
Naylor said, “People have said I’m crazy but every animal is a valued family member… I’ve tried to train all of my fish but Einstein’s my star pupil. He can swim through my fingers and he was getting into fish football when he fell sick.”
What a beautiful story!

This is so cute and wonderful because it shows that Einstein’s owner cares and that is the correct care you should have for your pet even if it is a goldfish, a dog, a cat etc. It is truly thoughtful that Einstein’s owner is so caring because he knows that Einstein is a life and lives need to be taken care of and animals are lives just like us so that is why we should care for them like how we would treat our kids or family.
Other than the fact that it is so cute, the lifejacket must help so much and imagine if the owner was just one person that said “its just a fish, who cares?” then Einstein would have suffered, people in the world think just because they are some type of animal or that they are animals at all that they are below humans. But guess what? We are the SAME so every animal is entitled to rights just like us and they should be taken care of just like us.
This is so amazing and this man is so kind to this fish, i love animals and i would never hurt them ever. Keep swimming Einstein! Faith in humanity restored! Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
Dear Naylor, thank you that you never give up a little life and help Einstein able to swim again . You are so great and care to your pet, may all pet owners also can take responsible to their pet, not leave them alone when have any suffering.
Dear Rinpoche, this story is so touching! We can see that Einstein really loves Naylor, if Einstein never loved Naylor he wouldn’t even try to swim to the fish football field. I wonder what material does he use to invent the jacket. It just so cool.
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche, this is very heartwarming. For most of the people, when their pets are either sick or old, they will just abandoned them. I’m very touched by Leighton’s kind act, I think that he gave Einstein a second chance to live. Great person!
Dear Rinpoche,
It’s great that even though Little Einstein may just be a small Goldfish it is great that Naylor cares to help Little Einstein by making him a aid to help little Einstein swim
Like what Naylor said that many people think he was crazy I think he is really compassionate to help a little goldfish!
This is truly a heart warming story!
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing!
Love

Marvelous. Leighton Naylor is so kind and creative to help Einstein in whatever possible way he could, to help Einstein to swim as a fish. Imagine a fish cannot swim is like a man who cannot walk and no freedom at all. it’s all about helping each living being around us. When we develop equanimity among all living beings, our world will become a safer and more peaceful place to live.
This is lovely. This story tells that we do not abandon our loved ones when they are sick or not able to live independently. Miracles always happen when we take up the challenge and tried.
From the title I thought Einstein “the scientist” was in trouble! I’m a gold fish enthusiast once and have read that this is the inherent weakness of gold fish. We can just watch our gold fish die a slow death once it show sign of swim bladder “disease. Naylor had proofed us all wrong wrong with little ingenuity when come to saving his pet fish!
Yes, people might say he is crazy, and I believe that he is, but crazy with love and compassion! He is “crazy” of having a very good heart in wanting to value every animal as a dear family member. Who knows, perhaps the fish ‘Einstein’ could be his previous mother in his past life, and now he is treating him as his star pupil. When Einstein fell sick and could not swim, Naylor was frantic with depression and got heartbroken. Yes, that’s what Naylor is. He is crazy with love and compassion, which not many people have! That is why he took so much trouble to create a bouyancy device to make it possible for his dear little precious Einstein to be able to swim around the tank again,, to relieve his suffering, like what a Bodhisattva will do. May you be greatly blessed Naylor, you are my star, my hero and my greatest joy!
What a conincidence, one of my previous dog’s name is Einstein too.
Einstein is so fortunate to have a good master who takes care of his welfare. Every living being deserves a chance to live and it is so heart warming to see Naylor made a life jacket for his pet fish. If not for the caring Naylor, Einstein would have been dead by now.
People may say that Naylor is crazy, but to me Naylor is a very compassionate man who values every animal as a family member.
If we want to help any being we will find a way to make it happen, as we all have ingenuity and talents and we call can do something for others. We will find a way through to any problem.
Mr Leighton Naylor is such a kind and compassionate person who really treats every animal as a valued family member, rejoice!
So thoughtful of him to invent such a cute little life jacket for his pet fish that couldn’t swim due to injury, because of the loving care from Naylor, his fish could swim now, long live the fish! The story is so touching and inspiring.Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
I really love this story very very much! I am so happy to see people treat animals with love and care.
What Rinpoche wrote on the above is so right. “It’s amazing how true care can bring out within us strength and creativity. I guess that’s why those who care always manage to find a way to make a positive difference in other people’s lives.”
When we love a person/a pet so much, we will never give up and let them die. This type of greatest love arises from a simple heart of true love that will never give up no matter how.
And I am shocked to know that people said Naylor is crazy for saving a fish. I would say those who don’t save their pets or loved ones are crazy…I don’t say this in a negative way but it is true. Why we don’t save/help them when we can??
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with us Rinpoche!
Is such a compassion act ! Animals deserve to be happy and care no one like to be abandon especially when they are sick animal also the same. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this blog post with us.
Ingenious!
Love this story! Naylor and Einstein sure has a beautiful friendship. The life vest is such a creative and innovative contraption. Thank you for sharing this heartwarming story.
OMB, the gold fish is cute and adorable.
Leighton Naylor is so compassion and thoughtful hence care for his gold fish.
May this article open up our Bodhisattva seeds in our mind hence be more compassion and care to all mothers sentient beings…
Thank You Rinpoche for sharing such touching story.
Many people would have just bought another fish and trained it from scratch but Leighton Naylor opted to help this fish to swim like other fishes. Fish that’s not able to swim is a really sad thing, it’s as though a human who’s bedridden and not able to do anything. Animals deserve love and care. They have feelings too!
This beautiful story of Leighton Naylor and his goldfish, Einstein, really does show the extent of one’s ingenuity when one cares. The mind will think out of the box to come up with amazing solutions. Many would think goldfishes as decoration for their houses but Leighton had gone beyond that to interact and care for them, conscious of them as living beings. Thank you Rinpoche for this heartwarming story to show us kindness.
Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing this story. To be honest, many people who have opted for poor Einstein to end his life because there is nothing in the fish-library that could save him. But there is certainly something in love and compassion that could. 🙂
Cute little goldfish. Especially with the life jacket. Makes Einstein look like a floating astronaut! He is very lucky to have a master like Naylor. Given any other homes, Einstein would have died by now. How Naylor sees animals like humans is inspiring as he clearly said “People have said I’m crazy but every animal is a valued family member”. Very Buddhist.
This is fantastic! I never would have imagined a life vest for a fish 😀 its so creative and kind. I would imagine that if people saw a fish that couldn’t swim, they would just leave it to suffer. But whoever did this and put all the effort onto making it possible for this fish to swim again is so compassionate.
It is just so great that little Einstein gets a second chance in life. I believe that not many animals do have a chance like that. As many people would think that it is too troublesome for them, hence they would discard these sick animals and buy a new one as their pet.
I am so happy that with Naylor’s love for his fishes have given the second chance to Einstein so that he can live for a longer period of time. It is just so amazing what people can do so much things because of their care towards a cause.
this is such a nice story, i love it when people go and care for animals and help them. i am so happy Einstein got a good life vest and is now swimming nicely. thank you for sharing Rinpoche
This is extremely cute and amazing. It is so inspirational and touching to see a human being care for such a small creature. Anyone else would just flush the fish down the drain but not Leighton. Good for him! May he have a wonderful life.
The floating vest is soo cute and it fits Einstein perfectly, from here we can see that how much thoughts and work Naylor has putted into inventing this for Einstein. The second picture of Einstein looked very sad. Kindness is when we help those who are not able to help themselves out of the pure motivation for the sake of them to be well and happy. Naylor has made the first step to be the solution instead of just neglecting poor Einstein. People like him is hard to find nowadays, let us remember Naylor act of kindness and always be the solution of a problem. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this adorable heart warming post.
Animals deserve love and care, stop cruelty now!
Leighton Naylor just wants to help help his pet fish, Einstein, which I think is very simple and pure. Many people would just pick up Einstein and throw him into the rubbish bin; but not Leighton. And he came up with an ingenious design of this life jacket. It is literally a life jacket for it give Einstein a second chance to live. It alleviated Einstein’s depression and certain death.
Thanks Leighton for this inspirational act.
Thanks Rinpoche.
Oh my goodness. . how cute. It’s amazing, and so touching that Leighton cared even about the smallest little fish.
I love how the bigger goldfish takes a peek at the life jacket before turning left. .this video really my restores faith in humanity. thanks for sharing Rinpoche
