Excellent Quotes on Vegetarianism
Dear everyone,
Please contemplate on these wonderful quotes of wisdom and do something with your habits and become vegetarian now.
Don’t say it’s hard, or difficult or give yourself more excuses to indulge in allowing senseless slaughter of animals. Nothing can be said or justified for their suffering. Be a true spiritualist from today onwards. Don’t just read and say words that sound good and leave it at that. You’ve done that too many times. While your contemplating, your still eating flesh..Think please. Stop now. Not difficult at all if you say so in your mind.

Wonderful and powerful quotes for us to ponder ,to choose to be a vegetarian.Wow….what a huge difference between those vegetarian childhood having IQ of 109.1, and meat eaters childhood having IQ of 100.9. It show that those people on vegetarian are smarter then.
Being a vegetarian makes it easier for us to increase our loving kindness and compassion. Do it for the animals. Do it for the environment, and do it for our health.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this.
Every instinct tells us that by non-harming and non-killing of other beings we are happier people with a greater peace of mind. These lovely quotes serve to remind us that our essential nature is peaceful, kind and compassionate. Eating meat is a habit cultivated and learned over lifetimes. Knowing that and knowing that karmically we will have to bear the consequences for eating meat in terms of similar or compounded suffering, it behoves us to start right now unlearning what we had learned. We cannot give ourselves excuses anymore. As Buddhists, who believe in loving other beings and being compassionate to them, we cannot harm nor kill any sentient being.
The spirit is willing, the flesh is weak. Sometimes, we think of the pain of the animals that had to sacrifice their lives against their will, and we say we do not wish to eat them. But, at the dining table, the palate calls for flavors and the mind thinks that they will starve without meat.
Luckily, nowadays, there are chefs and cooks who are very creative and can come out with flavors that satisfy the palate and the mind without any meat. Now, we can find vegetarian food from western cuisine to asian cuisine to satisfy all kinds of cravings.
And, I see more and more of the younger generation embracing vegetarianism whether it be for health or compassionate reasons. It is a good trend to see.
It is quite clear that from Buddha’s time, vegetarianism is encouraged as Buddha had seen in his clairvoyance that all animals were once our mother and father. How could we even contemplate eating our parents although they are in different form now? Or worst, imagine ourselves being treated as farm animals and being killed to be eaten by others in our past lives as animals. Well I guess if one is fearful of being eaten in one’s future lives, then being vegetarian will be a good start. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these meaningful quotes.
不知道是不是闭关的关系,最近看到一些宰杀的照片马上令我戒吃肉的决心。最低限度这3个月我会戒吃肉,希望以后都可以持续。
Dear Rinpoche, even until now I still can’t stop thinking about eating meat but the only that I stopped myself from thinking about it is that I imagine that how the animals suffered to death or imagine that I am eating meat when I am actually eating fake vegetarian meat.
These quotes are very meaningful and it’s undeniable. People often eat things that are not ‘necessary’, especially when it comes to eating meat. We can live without eating meat, in fact, we can even live longer. It’s not a really good thing to do when you kill something or threaten it’s life just for the sake of your taste buds. I hope more people will eventually become a vegetarian after reading these quotes, it’s not hard at all.
Thank You for sharing these wonderful quotes Rinpoche.
Love, beatrix.
Wow, these quotes are really good!! I really had a good time reading them. I hope that many people read these quotes and they change their eating habits.
I think my favourite quote is ‘The eating of meat extinguishes the seed of great Compassion
~Buddha’. This shows that eating meat is not kind at all. And that people who eat meat have no compassion towards animals. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
Amazing Quotes if top spiritual masters can advocate going against the diet of meat there is something in there. And mind you these are the people of PEACE in our times advocating this stance. How can we strive to develop compassion when constantly hurt other beings just to please our habituated taste buds.

Be Veg, Go Green, 2 Save the Planet! I happen to see this link in many vegetarian restuarant in Penang & decided to find out what it is all about.
I think this is really a good reference resource on vegetarian.
For me, Rinpoche’s exhortation is the best.I think all of us have read the nice quotes here or from other sources regarding the ‘ sin’ of eating meat. I also think a lot of us feel some guilt even if we adopt some vague rationale or justification for eating meat.
As Rinpoche said, it is really not enough just to say the above are meaningful messages but then use a ton of excuses to not change our eating habit or hide under the pretext to switch over one day.DO IT NOW if we truly care and want to sleep well.
For 55 years I swear by meat, and have eaten countless living beings, which had been my mothers in the past.Although I have lots of regret and lifetimes of purification to do, I am happy I have put a stop to it.If I can do it, everyone can.
Eat less and less meat everyday and discover and enjoy steadily a more holistic diet which will be healthy for both mind and body without causing others to suffer.

Bless you, Sharon. I was born and raised with the bible in my hands. It was even read to me inside the womb, my mother and father were fantastic in that respect. I have never remembered or heard this parable, still. You are fantastic. I still owe you din din when I come and visit Malaysia. Remember I told you so last week on Justin.tv I don’t ever forget people who help me. I will cherish my next full time-job so much… I hate being useless to others and out of work!
Bless my mother who not only allows me to practice Buddhism which is against her upbringing, but also would allow me to live rent-free if I stopped paying rent. (I am paid up until December 1st.)
Those quotes are fantastic.
My friends, I can see into the future. Do you know what I see? Me, much happier, because I do not eat meat or eggs or fish or milk. This will be true soon, or I might as well flush my Dharma books down the toilet, because if you cannot hold a commitment that makes you better, go party and forget about the Dharma. Tell your Lama to go fly a kite, because you don’t wanna hear about reality.
P.S. Your party stops when you die, then you are born as a mistreated chicken who only lays eggs and cannot even flap its wings one time in it’s life. Sounds like a parrr teeee. UGH. I really don’t want to be hung up-side down and have my throat cut while I’m still conscious. Then have some hungry, ignorant person eat me at KFC.
OK SORRY I WRITE TOO MUCH–SUE ME.
If I remember Henry Ooi says in one of his comments in Rinpoche’s blog. He says you eat to live and not live to eat. Its very true. Funny how all foods that are tempting to everyone’s palate and taste buds are not healthy and not good for the body causing sickness and complications. In addition you create the bad karma of killing animals and eating them. Where eating is concerned the mind and senses plays a part too. Its the mind that says the food is good or the food is no good. On the other hand if you are a vegetarian you tell yourself. I am a vegetarian and have committed to go meatless and out of compassion I am not supposed to kill. Vegetarian can be tasty too if cooked in the correct way. And also you avoid killing another sentient being. You eat just to live.
beautiful quotes!
Thankyou Rinpoche for compiling this. It will help many more people to understand why we shouldn’t eat meat. Very very beautiful quotes.
Just to share this from the Bible:
The Book of Daniel:
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.
13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”
14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.
16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
