Guess what the FBI is doing now?
Amazing! I was so elated to come across this and you must share this news too. Such a GREAT ARTICLE and I hope to hear more and more of this. We have all the animal activists, animal lovers and people who sign petitions to get this through. It really makes me tremendously happy. Animals should never be beaten, abused, hurt, locked up, slaughtered and eaten. Being kind to them is just another way to manifest heaven on earth.

FBI turns animal cruelty into top-tier felony
By SUE MANNING Posted: Oct 01, 2014 | Associated Press
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Young people who torture and kill animals are prone to violence against people later in life if it goes unchecked, studies have shown. A new federal category for animal cruelty crimes will help root out those pet abusers before their behavior worsens and give a boost to prosecutions, an animal welfare group says.
For years, the FBI has filed animal abuse under the label “other” along with a variety of lesser crimes, making cruelty hard to find, hard to count and hard to track. The bureau announced this month that it would make animal cruelty a Group A felony with its own category – the same way crimes like homicide, arson and assault are listed.
“It will help get better sentences, sway juries and make for better plea bargains,” said Madeline Bernstein, president and CEO of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles and a former New York prosecutor.
The category also will help identify young offenders, and a defendant might realize “if he gets help now, he won’t turn into Jeffrey Dahmer,” she said.
Law enforcement agencies will have to report incidents and arrests in four areas: simple or gross neglect; intentional abuse and torture; organized abuse, including dogfighting and cockfighting; and animal sexual abuse, the FBI said in statement. The bureau didn’t answer questions beyond a short statement.
“The immediate benefit is it will be in front of law enforcement every month when they have to do their crime reports,” said John Thompson, interim executive director of the National Sheriffs’ Association who worked to get the new animal cruelty category instituted. “That’s something we have never seen.”
Officers will start to see the data are facts and “not just somebody saying the ‘Son of Sam’ killed animals before he went to human victims and 70-some percent of the school shooters abused animals prior to doing their acts before people,” said Thompson, a retired assistant sheriff from Prince George’s County, Maryland.
FBI studies show that serial killers like Dahmer impaled the heads of dogs, frogs and cats on sticks; David Berkowitz, known as the “Son of Sam,” poisoned his mother’s parakeet; and Albert DeSalvo, aka the “Boston Strangler,” trapped cats and dogs in wooden crates and killed them by shooting arrows through the boxes.
It will take time and money to update FBI and law enforcement databases nationwide, revise manuals and send out guidelines, Thompson said, so there won’t be any data collected until January 2016. After that, it will take several months before there are numbers to analyze.
The new animal cruelty statistics will allow police and counselors to work with children who show early signs of trouble, so a preschooler hurting animals today isn’t going to be hurting a person two years from now, Bernstein said.
The FBI’s category will track crimes nationwide and is bound to give animal cruelty laws in all 50 states more clout. Many states are seeing more of those convicted of animal cruelty being sentenced to prison, in marked contrast to years past.
Whether talking about state laws or the FBI change, it is clear “that regardless of whether people care about how animals are treated, people – like legislators and judges – care about humans, and they can’t deny the data,” said Natasha Dolezal, director of the animal law program in the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

This is really great news. Animal cruelty is taken seriously now and action will be taken. This is good to create better and serious awareness to the people. Animals do have feelings just like us and no one has the right to hurt them. When matters like this being looked into and take serious action it helps more people to watch their action and also help the animals to live in peace. If we can’t even be compassionate with the animals, then what is the difference between us and them?

Wonderful new …..FBI doing something which many people have not seen before. They are trying stop more serious crime happening by taking action to make animal cruelty an offence. People who cause harm to animals will be prosecuted like homicide, arson and assault . Several FBI studies show that serial killers start their lives as sociopaths by torturing or killing pets and later turns aggressive and violence against people later in life if it goes unchecked.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.
FBI is using their state of the art profiling technique to hunt down perpetuator who abuse animals and inflict pains on them. It is good to know from this article that FBI recognised that many violent criminals started their on animals before they venture to inflict harm and pain on humans. Thank you for this sharing.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. This is a good news from FBI for taking action to make animal cruelty a Group A felony with its own category – the same way crimes like homicide, arson and assault are listed. By doing this, any animal cruelty that happens will be sentenced to prison if found guilty. By doing this also, cases which happen on the young kids can be uprooted and treated before it turns out to become crime case.
With folded palms,

this is such a great news from FBI to have identify the root cause of criminal case especially killers and psychopath that currently are running rampant.
Kudos to FBI to classify animal cruelty as felony. This is a right move to safeguard animals wellbeings, it will lead to more vigilant from the neighbors and society. Really hope that this move to classify animal cruelty as felony will be taken seriously in other country as well.
It is really good to hear that the police are finally doing their best to stop people abusing animals.
This news really made me leap in joy as I have heard of animals getting abused and mistreated.
It really pushes me back to my warning mark to see that in Malaysia nobody is taking action.
Everybody has to stop mistreating animals as they have feelings just as we do.
They can feel pain , they have good days and bad days.
Also you should not abandon you pet because it is old ETC…
Hopefully this post will help spread awareness about stopping mistreatment of animals and that they might live a nice and happy life.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post as it really inspires me.
Thank You for sharing such an amazing article Rinpoche, this is definitely a very good news.
I’m very glad that more attention and awareness and brought towards this matter, it will not only cut down animal abuse related crimes, but this will also allow more animals to live freely.
Lately, animal abuse has been a very popular/ “hot” topic all around the world, the minute we go on social medias, we see videos of animals being tortured. A lot of people do this just for the sake of having fun and getting more attention, but this is definitely not what a person should do in order to be popular.
The animals are innocent, neither one of them deserved to be treated unkindly. I hope that more people will realise how ignorant it is to hurt animals, they have feelings too, just like us. If anyone has the thought of hurting them, please think twice before you do it, this is not the way to have fun. We can go to the amusement park and do all sorts of thrilling/fun activities, just please leave the animals out of this, they are LIVING BEINGS whereas roller coasters aren’t. 🙂
I a so happy that the FBI is doing this because they deserve rights and now they are given some, but before when they were not given these rights, people could abuse animals and get away with it. What gives us the right to say that we are more important than them? We are sentient beings and we have feelings and can feel pain so they can feel it too, just because they can’t tell us, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt when we hit, torture or neglect them. So this new law is extremely good.
This law is to reduce violence in general too because like it said: the criminals that became famous killers started by abusing animals, which is extremely bad, but they started inflicting pain where it was okay and they could get away with it. But now that there is a new law stoping animals from being abused, then some people won’t even start to bring pain to other beings.
Such a shame, even though there are more animals being save with all the new animal rights rules and laws, it is all pointless because the number that we save, are being killed a hundredfold on slaughterhouses worldwide. If you really care about animals, share the wisdom of how animals are treated to make them rethink eating meat. So the cure is vegetarianism.
I’m happy to hear that the FBI is finally going to action on animal cruelty in 2016, I hope they will start it sooner though. I really wish that the whole world will quickly start making animal cruelty a big news and banned it. The other day, I asked Clifford why do people like abusing animals and slaughter them? His answer was that some people actually feel more power in the sense of control and some crazy people do it just for the sake of fun. After they take action in animal abuse and some other stuffs, I wish they would start taking action in animals being killed and make it into food. It’s just disgusting when I think of the video of animals getting slaughtered such as Earthlings, but it taught me a lesson that I should not eat meat and let me understand/know how and where does the meat come from.
It makes sense that person who inflicts violence, abuse or suffering to other life forms will eventually do the same to people. Any type of violence and abuse is not good anyway. It’s great news that FBI is taking this offence more seriously to curb this behavior.
When we do not curb any form of negative behavior, it will only become worse as we age. The behavior becomes a habit.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing with this good news of law enforcement against the animal abusers in US. Finally the authority has realized that those people who have abused the animals are prone to commit crime in future. The law enforcement is not putting people into jail or other kind of punishment on purpose but to lead them through the correct path to become someone who is caring, full of compassion, generous and think of others in their life. With all of this good qualities, eventually everyone will gain happiness together with all the animals around.
It is really great news to hear that a law enforcement bureau has finally decided to make a move to class animal abuse from the label of “others” to a Group A Felony grade which what I think means that such cases will be treated with the same severities with cases such as arson, assault and etc are treated.
This move will definitely play a big role in decreasing animal abuse cases in the US as it will make would be offenders think about how severe abusing a animal is now.
It has really made me happy to see a law enforcement giant in the US take plight to the lives of animals seeing cases of animal abuse in the US is something that is not rare.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful news!
More countries should adopt this law that protects animals against the cruelty of humans. By treating animal abuse as a felony, many future crimes against humans can be avoided.
Thanks for Rinpoche’s sharing. It was good news to know that more actions will be taken for animals abused. It may stop the person for any cruelty actions against animals.i hope it will create awareness also and acting as education towards society to treat animals in kind.
Great news indeed!
If other countries starts following what FBI is dong, it will definitely have a tremendous impact on the animal abusers. I hope Singapore and Malaysia will take animal abuse seriously too.
Thank you for sharing with us this great piece of news RInpoche. Finally the FBI can see that through animal abuse it is actually early signs of abuse that the people would be inflicting on humans in the future when they get older.
I rejoice that animal abuse has became part of Group A felony. I think through this, peopl ewould reconsider again taking out their anger on little animals that may not have the ability to fight back.
I am just delighted with this piece of great news. I just hope that this would be able to help prevent people from abusing animals as it is just so sad to see animals being hurt because they are not being able to defend themselves from the kind of pain humans try to inflict on them.
I am so glad to read this news and post! I wish this type of law was implemented in every country worldwide! It is too much, too cruel, too inhumane how we have been allowing animals to be abused. By not doing a thing we are also allowing the abuse to go on and we are suppose to be the very people who protect them. If we don’t protect them then we are part of the other side that abuses them. We become the very monsters and murderers.
It is true that if the youth can be so indifferent and cruel to innocent lives, and when the act of killing becomes inconsequential… just what kind of new generation are we bringing up? Will it become like the purge movie? It is terribly terrifying to imagine our children growing up not have empathy or feelings for another life, and this is definitely the ingredients of violent serial killers. Hope more and more countries like Malaysia will give animals more right and protection, we must continue speaking up for these voiceless souls.
This is good news. If only more counties would do the same. May all animals be free of suffering . They are the voiceless and thus we need to speak for them.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such wonderful news. I am rather surprised initially by this, but then again, coming from the US where data and research is so well done, it goes to show that to fight crime is to go to the root cause, which in this case, they have identified a clear link between animal abuse and later adulthood crime.
Thank you Rinpoche.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this good news. Gross animal abuse, by young persons, that leads to death or serious injury of the animal, will soon be legally categorized nationwide in the US as felony( a serious crime carrying a heavy penalty). It will be treated like an offence of killing or seriously injuring a human.
FBI studies show that serial killers, like Dahmar, had impaled the heads of dogs, frogs and cats on sticks(as a kid). The “Boston Strangler” had trapped cats and dogs in wooden crates and killed them before shooting arrows through the boxes, when he was young.
Data collected, by investigating officers, about such gross cases of animal abuse by young persons will enable counsellors to work with these young persons who show signs of ‘trouble’; so a preschooler hurting animals, will be prevented from hurting a person two years down the road.
Furthermore, prevention of a repeat of such acts by these young persons in the must surely be a reason for such laws to be enacted.
