I Love Coke, Fries and Spinach!
Dear friends,
When you’re eating your daily meals, do you ever wonder about the source of your food? Have you ever thought about we’re actually consuming?
A student of mine shared with me the illustrated article below. I found it very interesting as it very clearly explains where our food comes from and what is in it. This information provided are all based on facts and research done by established organizations and government agencies…
It is very shocking to read about what goes on in the farms where our food is being produced. Animals are being fed with meat from their own species, animal waste, plastics and even drugs and chemicals which are dangerous to both the animals and the people who will sadly consume them.
Many celebrities are now only consuming produce that comes from organic farming… for both diet and health purposes.
I am happy to share with everyone that we in Kechara have started our own small organic farm at Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) which we will expand as we develop KFR. The green team led by my hardworking students Li Kheng and Julia work tirelessly every day at KFR to develop the organic farm. I have tried the vegetables produced in our farm and they are really tasty!!
At the bottom of this blog post I included a video of Julia explaining about the organic farm at KFR. Please do watch and support our green effort!

Thank you for this sharing. Processed food is a big business nowadays because it is cheaper and can last longer. And with more use of chemical and genetic mutation, what we are eating is not the same as what the generation of our parents were eating before. We end up eating more but getting lesser nutrition. Worse still, we are consuming the chemical that goes into our food through various stages of their growth process. Some of these chemicals are cancer causing agents. It is very scary. We should be very careful of what we eat, check and understand the source or how the food is being produced. The best is to be a vegetarian because it narrows the intake of harmful elements plus it is compassionate eating.
I never knew that we are actually putting toxic into our bodies everyday. After looking at this, I feel so disgusted with what kind of things I am eating everyday.
These processed food has zero benefits to our bodies and yet, when the businesses try to sell all these things to the consumers, they would tell the consumer that it is all good but in fact is that we are
constantly putting poison into our mouths.
Thank you Rinpoche so much for sharing this with all of us here for us to know what is in our food.
Oh no, what we are eat actually , foods or chemical? Just realize that this foods also not safe to eat anymore, disappointment to those people who just care about their profits and indirectly to harm other’s health.
Really happy to know that Kechara Forest Retreat have a Organic Farm and thanks to all kecharians and volunteers to plant variety of vegetables. Safe for consumer because free from chemical. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
We never ever notice what we are actually eating everyday. This article is an eye-opener to everyone. It is wonderful to see that KFR is growing vegetables in a green and healthy way. Thank you for sharing this information, Rinpoche!
These are really a shocking facts how our foods are being produced. But is this solely the fault of the food producer?? I think its no. We as a consumer also one of the group that contribute to this kind of food producing method. Because without these methods, they won’t be able to supply what we need.
So what can we do to make a difference???
Go vegeterian is the answer!!
Eating good healthy food equates having a good life.
The food chart looks shocking, so many food are bad for our body. I never knew that cereal and banana can cause cancer. Ever since I stopped taking meat, I have been taking a lot of cereal and oatmeal and I love banana, so now I will have to cut down on these food!
Thank you, Rinpoche, for sharing this information. To stay healthy, it is better to have an organic vegetarian diet.
After looking at the foods chart above, it is shocking to see most of the foods that we eat daily have cancer causing agent in it. One of the oncologists told me that one in five people will suffer cancer nowadays, even paediatric cancer are on the rise it is quite alarming to hear that. Therefore we better go for healthy foods such as vegetarian organic foods liked what Julia has shown us the organic farm in Kechara forest retreat.
Wow, this is very disheartening. Basically the whole supermarket we all go to, to buy our daily products to eat are toxic. I am not surprised to learn about these facts because I know the food industry these days would do anything to cut down cost and speed up production to meet demands. It is greed and human consumption that has brought us to this stage. Think about it, how disgusting is it to eat an animal which has eaten its own species own flesh and manure is truly disturbing. Eating meat is one issue, vegetables these days are sprayed with all kinds of pesticides in order to look fresh. I really admire what Rinpoche, Li Kheng, Julia and whole of Kechara are doing. Building an organic garden aiming to be a fully self sustaining retreat centre is just a brilliant idea. It is not only fresh, healthy and safe, it is also cost efficient.
Everything that are convenient in modern world is actually not so convenient in the end.
When our food are coming from massive farm or factory, the incidents of mass food poisoning such as China 2008 milk scandal, which involves milk and infant formula, and other food materials and components, adulterated with melamine and etc will happen more and more frequent. The amount of victims involved will also increased.
Mass production of food is much cheaper overall than individual production of meals from raw ingredients…and individuals enjoys benefit in convenience, but hardly see any direct financial cost benefit in using processed food as compared to home preparation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_processing)
Home preparation of unprocessed food, or home growing food might seems so inconvenience and incur much higher cost and effort; however the impact or cost of unhealthy and toxic on our body is much higher.
In the other hand, grow-your-own will be the future trend, which has taken off during the recession will be growing. It’s time to grow our own food and prepare our own food!
Wow, thank you for all the useful information Rinpoche. I think that everything on the graphs is smart and makes a lot of sense. And as for the organic farm in KFR, i think that there being a farm there is a very good idea and very useful. It provides good, healthy and clean food to the people who work there, it also could be sold and funds could be raised, and lastly, because then this farm could actually promote vegetarianism.
It is amazing that we do not know that what we are eating is so bad for us. We trust that the authorities would make sure that our food is ‘safe’ but from the charts above, it is obvious that purely for economic reasons, our health and welfare is at stake.
The best is to educate ourselves what is healthy and to consume organic food. If we think that organic food is expensive and we can’t afford it, how about thinking about the medical costs if we continue to eat the toxic food in the supermarket. There isn’t really a choice. This is a good article to share with people so that they are aware and will hopefully change their diet.
i am so happy i am a vegetarian and a animal lover, and i am totally against how these people treat their animals, what they feed them is so sick. the KFR farm will be so much better! i hope one day all this cruelty will just stop!

Wow! This is unbelievable even fruits and fruits juice also can cause cancer. I think that why nowadays at a very young age people are diagnosed with different kind of disease a lot of them are cancer. Last year itself I come across kids at age of 14 who died of cancer, after talking to his parent actually this boy he like to eat a lot of process food and junk food. I believe organic vegetarian diet will help. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this information with us it really help us a lot.
I can’t believe that all these years I have been eating causes cancer, ect. Even banana can cause cancer and reproductive toxicity. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing a caring post for us to know how unhealthy our diet are.
It’s not safe to eat most of the food we have now. Either cook at home or eat outside…. Most of the food also were not healthy… Sad to see that most of us now and our future generation to suffer on health problems just for the sake of delicious…
I never knew that bananas would cause cancer, it’s one of my favourite fruits! My goodness, I love all of the above, especially coke. I have also knew that it’s very bad to consume, but it’s really hard to resist. I think i’m gonna cut down on the food and beverages above, too much risks..
On the other hand, Aunty Julia has explained very well on the organic farm at KFR. I understood quite a lot.
Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
Dear Rinpoche, this article is so scary. I don’t think that I have any appetite to eat my favorite food again. Some of my favorite food are in the picture such as Famous Amous cookies, cheese burger, soft drinks, french fries, junk foods and banana. Oh my god! I’m gonna die.
Interesting, never knew that some food stuff that we thought is healthy for us are in actuality not. With materialism being wide spread, I suppose food companies are not concerned about health but instead placed their main concentration on lowering cost at the expense of nutrition in order to maximize their profits.
Thank goodness I do not eat meat as there are so many harmful products being placed in meat and may other processed foods. In conclusion, we have to eat more organic foods, not the ones from the supermarket either as we can’t really trust them.
If you want quality vegetable with no “extra-bits” grow them yourselves as KFR does right now. I have tried beansprouts made by KFR and I have to say they taste better than the store-bought ones.
Wow we never check out what we tuck in everyday especially our children and elders, this article can be the reminder to help us change our foods and choose the right one…
Is the wonderful news that there are many organic plants that planted in house in Kechara Forest Retreat and thanks for Green team that always maintain to have a good harvest…
May Rinpoche long life and good health with these fresh organic foods in KFR…
